Star Wars has kind of a shit track record with actor treatment, but you know who probably got it the best? Mads Mikkelson. Dude was in 1 movie, died, has no plot threads left about his character for fans to annoyingly ask questions about, got to be in one of the most iconic film franchises of all time, and got paid an approximate shitload of money I’m sure

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.
D: James Mangold (2023).
The best thing about the latest Indiana Jones movie is that Harrison Ford isn’t embarrassed by playing the iconic adventurer at 80. James Mangold sidesteps the implausibility of the concept in a flashback sequence (demonstrating how far anti-aging special effects have come in the five years since Scorsese’s The Irishman) that shows how much of Indy’s action-movie cred has more to do with quick wits and dumb luck (both good and bad) than to any physical prowess. And when we see him twenty-five years later, slouching toward  retirement as a professor emeritus and nursing the pains of a disappointing life, Ford’s inherent grouchiness provides a  comic spin that dissipates any pathos. So when Helena (Phoebe Waller-Bridges, for my money Indy’s best and least trustworthy sidekick) the daughter of an old colleague ropes him into a globe-trotting adventure that involves a time-mapping relic, rogue CIA agents, international gangsters and, of course, an undercover Nazi mastermind (Mads Mikkelson, skillfully glowering), director James Mangold has all the elements in place for a first-rate action movie. He can’t help it that he’s not Steven Spielberg.
And this movie really misses Spielberg. Mangold direction is competent, sometimes even brisk, but he negatively proves that the Indiana Jones franchise has less to do with an iconic whip and hat (which Mangold almost fetishizes without finding much use for) or even Ford’s masterful incarnation of a pop-culture archaeologist (who owes more to Buster Keaton than Allen Quartermain) than with a great kinetic director’s sheer pleasure in staging perfectly conceived and timed action sequences, of telling one whopper after another (even if they involve an A-Bomb and a refrigerator). Mangold keeps the plot moving but he never makes it spin, as we watch scene after scene waiting for a kicker that never comes. And without spoiling anything I’ll say that the film sets up a perfect ending, a great audacious wrap-up to the whole series but we almost literally see the creators slink away from it in favor of an overly sentimental anticlimactic finale. The movie isn’t a disgrace but as a finale to a much-loved franchise it doesn’t stick the landing.

First Look At Harrison Ford In ‘Indiana Jones 5’
The first official of images for the next installment in ‘Indiana Jones 5‘ have been released via Empire Magazine, giving us the first look at Harrison Ford in his return to the iconic role.  The images show both Ford in his role as Indiana Jones, as well as Mads Mikkelson, who will play the villainous Voller, who is inspired by real life-Nazi Wernher von Braun, who became a NASA engineer…

i've been doing a re-watch after about 7 years and i was thinking about how deeply and wildly fucked up these relationships are while being beautiful in their intensity and i thought you know who definitely liked this????? iconic writer betts!!! it really is an incredible show, especially if you're into the psychological thriller aspect and the concept of evil people in obsessive love of the "i can make him WORSE!" variety
i started watching it! i really like how hugh dancy (i hope i have that right) is acting like he's in a shakespeare tragedy and mads mikkelson is acting like he's in a bond movie. clearly that's a directorial choice but i still find the contrast of will's melodrama and hannibal's disaffection very funny. so far it's keeping my interest!

Link Tank: Beast Wars: Transformers Turns 25 Ahead of its Big Screen Debut
https://ift.tt/eA8V8J
25 years later and the Beast Wars: Transformers CGI doesn’t hold up, but it’ll get another shot on the bring screen in 2022.
“With that, the computer-generated animated series Beast Wars: Transformers had begun. Premiering in late September 1996, the series was the first American venture for the Transformers franchise since the original cartoon concluded almost a decade earlier. With a new style of animation and the use of animal transformations as opposed to vehicles, Transformers fans initially met the show with skepticism. Still, before long, Beast Wars was embraced for its dynamic writing and vivid characters.”

Set photos from the untitled 5th Indiana Jones movie are here, giving us our first glimpse at Harrison Ford wielding the whip once again, and Mads Mikkelson as the unknown villain.
“We’ve got set pictures of both Mads Mikkelsen and Harrison Ford hanging out, and honestly, that’s enough to sustain me and my love of this series until we get a trailer of some kind. On set in Italy, both Mikkelsen and Ford are riding around and relaxing, with Ford in his iconic Indiana Jones look and … Mads Mikkelsen with white hair in a grey suit?”

We have our first look at Dune star Timothee Chalamet as Willy Wonka in the upcoming reboot, and he sure is rocking that top hat.
“When Timothée Chalamet was first cast as this generation’s Willy Wonka in Paddington director Paul King’s new candy origin movie Wonka, we had a lot of questions. Questions like: ‘Why?’ or ‘What?’ or ‘Is the Timothée Chalamet Wonka just going to be a sensitive young man with long, dark hair wearing a top hat and a long coat?’ Well, Chalamet has posted a photo of himself as Willy Wonka on social media, and… yeah, it’s exactly that.”

Ghostface from Scream is back and is reminding us why we all fell in love with the slasher franchise in the first place.
“While we sure wish we could see the new Scream movie this Halloween, it’s not arriving until January, so we’ll have to content ourselves with the existing quartet (yes, even Scream 4—it’s much better than you remember it being!) and this delightfully terrifying new trailer for Matt Bettinelli-Olpen and Tyler Gillet’s reboot-relaunch of the late, great Wes Craven’s wonderfully self-aware slasher series.”

Hit show Squid Game might’ve given the video game Fall Guys the boost it needed to resurrect a hidden mini-game.
“During a recent TechRadar interview, Fall Guys lead game designer Joe Walsh said the dev team at Mediatonic is currently toying with the idea of retrieving an unused minigame from the cutting-room floor. And it’s all thanks to Netflix’s latest original series, Squid Game.”

LEGO announced that the details on their iconic Minifigures will be gender-neutral from now on.
“LEGO announced today that it will remove all gender bias from its toys, acknowledging that playing with those multi-colored blocks ‘is still considered more relevant to boys than girls.; The company made the announcement alongside the release of a LEGO-commissioned study finding that ‘girls today feel increasingly confident to engage in all types of play and creative activities.'”

it’s pretty damn impressive that mads mikkelson was able to make his mark on hannibal lector and have people enjoy his interpretation, despite that role being forever iconic and synonymous with anthony hopkins. that’s exactly like if someone we’re to play the joker post-heath ledger and bring a diff interpretation to the table+good performance but still make it their own.
