#marchmeetthemaker day 16: highs and lows As much as I love oblivion…I hate nirnroot. If you also hate the noisy glowing plant this design is available in both compact sticker format and eco-friendly tote bag format so you can share your justified plant based grumpiness with the world. In real talk, this week has been full of many highs and lows- on one hand I got to celebrate someone I love, eat lots of good food, send off packages to all you lovely people, and do some exploring while celebrating my birthday early. On the other hand I’ve spent every weekday this week at the doctors (with two more appointments and bloodwork tomorrow) which gets exhausting. In the end though I think that things balance out, and a huge thanks if you’ve shopped by birthday s@le at all (still going through the end of the month!) it’s made getting through the week financially with all the appointment copays a lot easier, so thank you again and I hope you enjoy your goodies!! ⭐Glow up - transformation for the better 😍 Tbh I feel my art & I are constantly evolving & growing BUT there was a big shift for me when the pandemic first hit. With all my work put on hold there was space to create freely, without limits & totally be myself in my art. This resulted in creations that led on to multiple opportunities! 🙌 💕It sounds cliche to talk about being brave, following your heart & being yourself but that's largely what made this transformation / glow up happen & be so successful. 💕 For a while I had dulled myself down creatively to not be 'too different' & to fit more neatly into existing boxes. Coming back to creative freedom & totally embracing my authentic self in my art was / is so liberating, exciting & benefits my work a lot. 🙌 😍Here are photos of me last year at the 'Euro Celtic Art' exhibition in Lorient, France. I was asked to represent the Isle of Man which was a huge honour and involved solo exhibitions from each of Celtic nation artists which formed the overall exhibition. Hello lovely ones, today's prompt for #marchmeetthemaker is Highs and Lows. The highs of my day are when a doll comes to life, and I see a little face that I can just fall in love with. It is such a wonderful feeling that my hands have created this little character. If I can get a feeling that a doll has a mind, thoughts, feelings of its own all the better it makes everything worthwhile. It’s such a special feeling, I want to cherish and protect them. I have to admit that the lows of my life come by the way of social media. If I could sit and create all day and not worry about getting my dolls out into the world I would be a blissfully happy little artist. There is nothing more disappointing than writing a ‘good’ post and taking some nice photos and putting it all out there only to have the algorithms decided to hardly show anyone. And when only 6 people read your latest blog, you do wonder if it was worth the time it took to write. I know this a problem that everyone trying to sell on-line is having at the moment, even big business don’t have the reach they used to, but if you have very few followers then that reach is so small that trying to grow seems like a monumental task. #marchmeetthemaker! Day 28-Adapt There are two main ways I adapt in my business recently. The first is with planning. Having this system for the last year or so has helped. I like to have arrived schemed and to get things done in the order I want but I have learnt I can’t always do that. And using this system helps me plan but also way adapt throughout the week. So that’s pictures of my todo list. The second is adapting my goals and expectations for my business and where it is going and being able to go with it a little and adapt my plan as I go. Posting later than usual today as I’ve been sleeping off the effects of allergy testing earlier today but #marchmeetthemaker day 13 has the prompt of planning and I’m currently in the process of planning out spring and summer events and allocating inventory for them- like this gaunter (Dead mans party edition) sticker! This year I have decided to join in with Joanne Hawkers #Marchmeetthemaker, I did this a few years ago and really enjoyed taking part; it’s nice to share some different things then I usually share and I really enjoy looking at other creative’s work who also follow along.

Brand origin: At university I studied textile design and focused on knitting, weaving and knotting designs and techniques manipulating materials to become wearable fabrics with a trapped aesthetic linking to the natural world such as branches and root systems. Some years later, after having my first little boy I felt the need to explore a new creative path and started to teach myself wire wrapping. Wire wrapping is similar to the processes I had already learnt and felt like a natural step in my creative journey allowing me to explore the beauty of organic shapes within nature to create wearable art. I decided I wanted to wrap and use gemstones in my jewellery and art pieces, being a huge lover of gemstones this was an added bonus for me. The name ‘The Twisted Kitty’ was inspired by my little black cat Fizzgig (named from a character in one of my favourite films, ‘The Dark Crystal’) and my love to create twisted forms in my work. My logo I created myself by incorporating my love of Celtic designs with my cat.

🧡Highs & lows... I guess the highest highs link in with the purpose of my art. It's great winning competitions & awards, getting special commissions and widespread recognition though my heart sings very loudly when I see/hear about the positive impact my art has on others. 🧡 🧡Sometimes these positive impacts are extremely powerful like helping someone to heal, giving someone peace, changing an important perspective and / or empowering someone. 🙌 🧡The lows? There are a lot of challenges in work like mine. Alongside the usual trials of self employment for a non-essential product, you're also impacted by unhelpful cultures such as the 'starving artist' myth and scarcity model.
