anime twunk slade in my adventures with superman is so funny to me and I think people who definitely do not read or think about deathstroke getting mad at it made me like it more lmao cause it made me realize a very silly detail
Tumblr media
it’s a story about Clark starting out as Superman so everyone is younger than their comic counterparts. That means that this young, but still clearly Adult Man’s actual arch-nemesises are currently kindergarteners, still with their parents at the circus or a few years from turning green. Which. just very funny in general.
It also means, I realized, that he still has both eyes. This is Slade early in his mercenary career, seemingly post experimentation but pre eyeloss. Which is a very specific time period in his backstory that means he has a very funny trait for an edgy floppy-banged white-haired anime man:
Tumblr media
He is currently married but (not by his choice) absolutely not going to stay that way.
it turns out about to be divorced is literally the funniest possible characteristic for a shonen villain to Me. I literally can’t stop calling him pre-divorce era Slade.
Oooo he’s edgy he’s dangerous he’s about to get shot in the face by his (absolutely justified) wife.
This man has at least one possibly two very young sons at home. He’s currently fighting Superman to avoid parenting. He is not going to get visitation rights and he Will be dodging child support payments.
Will they change it and make his eye related to Superman for narrative reasons, not covering his family stuff? I hope not but possibly. Until that happens though Schrödinger’s pathetic loser here having two eyes means his wife divorcing him is literally always impending.

(1x3) i love this show's portrayal of clark so, so much. i love how his sense of identity and where he comes from is such a massive theme - how he becomes superman in an attempt to better understand himself as a person, as well as satisfy his need to help people - but under all of that, the thing that matters most about clark is that he's a good person. it doesn't matter that he can fly or shoot lasers from his eyes - it matters that lois, within a day of meeting him, knows he would risk his job to help her if she just asked him to. it matters that he risked blowing his cover to save his friends. it matters that he only manages to discover new powers when somebody needs his help, never when they would be beneficial to him alone. rib him for being a boyscout all you like, but there's something so necessary imo about heroes who are wholly, unapologetically kind

Love that Jimmy is close enough with Clark's parents that Ma Kent pulls him aside like, "Jimmy, this is an emergency--I hate my son's girlfriend's father. This is awful. But like, this guy sucks, right? Please tell me I'm not crazy."

Okay, but this is probably mirroring EXACTLY what Jor-El's thoughts, actions, and purpose in sending Clark to Earth the first time was.
It all comes full circle. Once again, Kal-El is at risk of dying if he stays. Once again, Jor-El is forced to remain behind.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Once again, despite the fact that his son may never understand just how much his original family cared about him, it doesn't change the fact that all a dying father wants is for his son to live.

the “just try being normal” moment is such a good example of miscommunication conflict done right.
because you can tell that when she says it, Lois is coming from a place of fear for Clark- he’s been running himself ragged, and she wants him to stop. take a break. the ball is already rolling at this point in the episode, and she knows that if it continues unchecked, Clark is going to keep making mistakes due to his exhaustion, and things could get worse. She’s also, privately, scared by the alternate realities she’s seen, and despite knowing that her Clark wouldn’t do that, she’s on edge about it.
Clark doesn’t have the time, or mental space, to think about any of this at the moment.
Clark (having a terrible 24 hours) (on a time crunch) (exhausted) (upset) (trying his best) (oh my god) only hears “you’re different, and it’s causing problems.”
this is, understandably, devastating, and even though Lois IMMEDIATELY realizes that she’s fucked up, he flees before she can correct herself, and throws himself at the problem that he thinks he can fix.
this was an amazing example of how people are fallible, and was executed in a very realistic way that makes sense for the characters. both of them were coming from a good place, and the circumstances placed enough stress on them that the execution went horribly awry.
that said:
“I don’t want you to treat me like an alien; I just want to be your friend.”
“Take a break from being Superman, and just try being normal.”

actually I have a second thought about eboy anime twunk slade and it’s that he’s so funny people complaining are just cowards.
this is Absolutely what a man who is definitely gonna lose to newbie superman, be divorced, dodge paying child support, and commit himself to inventing new levels of toxic parenting and beefing with teenagers forever looks like

My Adventures with Superman EP 4: Design Works
My goodness it feels so strange to see these designs two years later but I actually had a hand in Clark, Lois and Jimmy’s gala suits in episode 4 of My Adventures with Superman!
Tumblr media
This happened WAY back in Sept 2021 but during my first week on the show I jokingly sent a piece of art to one of the design leads and well, one thing led to another:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is kind of running gag with my work, but I somehow always predict things when I draw fanart haha. I truly didn’t know there was gonna be a gala episode and now I was tasked to do a pass for the main trio’s gala outfits.
CLARK KENT
Tumblr media
Naturally since it started with Clark, he was the first one I did a pass on. I actually really like men’s suits design so this was the most fun to design out of the three. Overall, I drafted up four different suits that gave 4 different feels for our soft boi. Option A was a full 3 piece with slick backed hair (which honestly now feels very Bruce Wayne than Clark haha). Option B had a high school prom feel, Option C was more business casual (hence why his dress shirt was unbuttoned at top) and finally Option D was sleek turtleneck & suit combo. Honestly, I was rooting Option D ‘cause I’m a sucker for a turtleneck but if I  remember correct they went with Option B ‘cause it felt the most Clark. But just know I tried haha.
LOIS LANE
Tumblr media
Lois’s outfit was quite challenging since I had no clue until I was given the assignment that she’s Korean (yes, Lois is canonically Korean in the show). I remember the design leads Jane Bak and Dou Hong showing me a rough concept of a modern hanbok. I spent so many days researching hanboks and the construction behind them...it truly was a learning experience for me haha. It was quite challenging trying to create and outfit that spoke to Lois’ heritage while still keeping her energy. This was my very first pass but I think ultimately the team did a great job to hone in the final look and balance both elements for her outfit (the backless top is just chef’s kiss). Also yes, I did try giving Lois slick back hair haha.
JIMMY OLSEN
Tumblr media
There isn’t much to say about Jimmy’s outfit (sadly I left the production to work on Spiderman Freshman Year before seeing what they decided on). But from what I remember, I specifically was looking at men’s outfits from the Met Gala from that year and before (I think Chadwick Boseman was the biggest influence for me at the time). Though I think his final suit design aren’t like too far off from my initial thoughts, it’s still super cool to see how it evolved into the final look!  But yeah! Just a little behind the scenes on the work I got to do on the show. Again, super brief since Spidey was calling my name but I truly had so much fun getting to design for this show. MAWS was my first ever time doing design work (since I primarily work as a 2D animator and board artist). I was so nervous but the team was welcoming and taught me so much! I really have to thank Dou Hong and Jake Wyatt for taking a chance on me and allowing me to draw hot anime characters for a DC show haha.
