just a lil update to say that i'll be moving soon, so over the next 2–3 weeks i'll be quite busy and won't be able to post a lot a lot (not that i usually post that much but i do try!)

now that many panel shows are wrapping up their seasons, it's not too much to keep up with the masterpost or anything, so i'll definitely keep that chugging, but gifs might be a little slow :') i have a few requests i'll work on, and it's fine to send those in; plus, i said i'd be making BIG gifsets for the recent taskmaster contestants and i'm definitely working on those! i wanna do a good job so taking my time :)

it's funny, i've been hearing a lot about blog competition and fighting for notes and monopolising panel show content blah blah in my inbox recently. (i only included one here but there's genuinely been quite a few just in the last couple of weeks.) i don't know what might be going on on other blogs or discords or whatever, and i honestly didn't even know these were still convos people are having; i kinda thought we all agreed that this site isn't as big as it used to be, notes aren't as plentiful as they used to be, but by golly we'll just keep on posting anyways. i don't know if there are edit tags for any panel shows but i don't use them; i just post content here for my current followers and if you guys like it then that's all i wanted to do. i don't care if there are other panel show blogs with more followers or posts that get more notes or better gifs or better blogs or whatever. it's all fine. i don't care. i don't think about it. so you don't have to ask me that stuff — how to grow your blog or get more followers or more engagement, or how i feel about other blogs that post the same content as i do — i won't answer it. just post it because you want to; don't race to be the first one to get stuff at (especially at the expense of making content you're proud of!); don't put other people down; don't send anonymous hate. just be cool and worry about you. if you can't have fun here without validation in the notes then you're gonna be miserable. flopping is integral to being active.

2023 creator wrap-up

this year i posted 15 edits and scrapped 3-4 ideas that i'll get back to at some point, which is less than the 55 (!) i posted in 2022. my resolution for next year is to create more and scroll less but overall i'm still happy with that level of output

top five:

rowena / ruby parallels-- i actually fucking hate this one and i'm really disappointed with how it turned out!! all the same it was me getting back to giffing after a dry period and even though i hated it, i still posted it and some people seemed to enjoy it. i tend to scrap projects frequently, but i managed to power through my self-criticism and put this one out there. it set a good tone for the rest of the year.

hook man edit-- something you may not know about me is that i HAAAAAAATE giffing with subtitles because i cannot grasp how to make them look good. this is the first gifset i've ever made where i don't look back and cringe at how the subtitles look, so it stands as a milestone in my editing career :')

maybe 1996 was-- this was a return to form for me, having not made many asw edits in a while. it's commentary on hindsight and living in the past etc. etc., idealized moments in dean's personal history, but also how it's okay to look at the past with rose-tinted glasses when your life is so painful. the subtext here is that dean is denied heaven through his deal, but in exchange he gets to know that sammy lives (even though we know better, lol). i think this memory of sam and the fireworks was something dean thought about in his last moments.

15.20 letters to milena edit-- this one makes me tender ;~; i like that it's simple and understated but packs that emotional punch. it was pretty easy because as soon as i had that line in my head it was obvious to me what to do with it. i think it looks good too!

my letters to milena wincest edit-- this was created over the span of about 6 hours but is hands-down my favourite edit i've made PERIODDDDD partially because i love kafka but moreso because it came to me so easily... it had been cooking in my head for a few months before i made it and every scene i chose i knew immediately that i wanted to include it. the colour grading was really fun and i liked the process of experimenting with the format. if i could change one thing about it i would swap some of the scenes for the "really a reflection of everything else / which is a lie" portion because it makes more sense if the first line has all the good memories and the second has the bitter reality memories, eg. sad baby sam and the spaghetti-os.

I have a couple more shows on my watchlist and once that's done i think i'll be taking a (probably brief) break from asian dramas to focus on some of the other dozen watchlists i have (anime maybe? i might skip jojo and try daiya no ace again- we'll see though)

I'm hitting the 300 dramas mark soon (that's 300 completed mind you, not counting movies, and not counting things i've dropped) so i'll probably write something later in the year too reflecting on both the shows that've come out this year and the ones i've watched

For now i thought i'd jot down a couple notes about the currently airing shows i'm keeping up with since i haven't had time to do that in a while. I'll be doing this in the order I watch them in.

Middleman's Love- ngl I'm solely watching this for King and Uea. I know some of you like this show but the main couple just don't work for me and the side couple are only mildly more interesting. I'll keep watching it to the end but it's a skim watch.

Twins- A great example of how silly is fine when it's enjoyable. I fucking adore this show right now. This has volleyball in it and I'm a haikyuu!! fan before i'm a person so of course i was going to watch this show no matter how dumb it is but it's great. I'm having a blast. I like the family dynamics, I like Sprite, I like how they're committing to the 'slow' part of 'slow burn', I like all the stupid hijinks, I like that I can watch this show and be like "oh he's a Setter, like Kageyama!", I just like it. Poor First though, doing all this work of unlearning his hatred for Zee for no damn good reason.

My Dear Gangster Oppa- This one used to be first on my list but after the dumb breakup last week, it's dropped down. I hate the noble idiocy trope as @lurkingshan calls it. It's stupid, it's annoying and I don't think this week's episode made up for it. Shame really, I was quite enjoying this show at first. The chemistry's good and cliches are fine when they're enjoyable. If it wasn't ending next week, I would drop it.

Last Twilight- Saving the best for last because a) it's a heavier show with more to think about than any of the above and b) youtube's interface annoys me.Tbh I only started watching this in the hopes that it might rewrite my current reflex of wincing everytime I see Jimmy's face in a gifset but it's such an excellent show. Aof's directing and storytelling is excellent as usual and he really does deserve credit for how handles his actors. Watching JimmySea in this and then vv is like whiplash.

ps. Pit Babe- i'm not invested in keeping up with this show and my desire to do so depends on factors such as the amount of free time I have and how reluctant I am to use youtube to watch Last Twilight. It seems to have inklings of an interesting plot + obviously it's fandom history cuz of the a/b/o but the way they only half lean into the omegaverse aspects of it without explaining anything makes me wonder what people who aren't familiar with the concept of omegaverse think about this show and how they understand it. Like it has to be confusing without context, right? Mostly, i'm just watching for Nut Supanut and Nut Supanut only though it remains to be seen whether my affection for him will eventually be worn down by how annoying his character is. I swear, if it were played by anyone else or if I cared about the main characters to any extent, I'd find Way insufferable. But so far, i'm supporting all his wrongs. Especially when he looks so damn pretty doing it.

tbh the whole thing is just vibes, I do not have a coherent plot lmao. it started from this gifset of Diego because when I first saw it, I immediately thought that he looks kinda like a Hades-figure or something. with the throne and the black suit... but I'll be honest, I'm not a big mythology person, which is half the reason I haven't ever written this. if I were to do it, I don't think I'd wanna make him straight up just Hades, like I'd probably do my own spin on things.

anyway, the very loose plot I have is that Cassian is the son of the current king of the underworld, and his father wants to retire soon and pass over the title to him, but first, he sends Cassian up to the mortal world because he thinks Cassian should see what humans are like and what it's like to live without his powers. only Kay comes with him who's Cassian's hellhound in this AU. Jyn, I think, would be a mortal or a demi-god who doesn't know she's a demi-god, I haven't decided on that. whatever ends up working best for the story, but as I said... I don't have a story yet 😭 anyway, they obviously meet and things happen, and then Cassian has to decide between staying in the mortal world with Jyn or going back to perform his duties in the underworld because he may not be able to have both....

Elden Ring GIF adventure update

I think I've captured about all I could in this playthrough. I've had quite a bit of practice finding interesting ways to frame and angle settings, characters, and bosses, and then how to arrange a gifset nicely. Half the battle is presentation.

Also, I don't know if anyone's noticed, but I tend to hide little secrets in my sets. These might be odd details people often overlook, strange character behaviors, or even astrological secrets! When you start looking for things to photograph/record in a presentable manner, you start to pick up on From's acute attention to detail in how they construct their worlds.

I need to finish Armored Core VI soon, and maybe replay some Resident Evil in preparation for Halloween season, but then I'll probably hop back into this silly little hobby.

I never feel inspired to gif cool scenes with witty dialogue, I just gif for thirst reasons because I'm a dumpster of a human. ETA: It got really long and didn't even scratch the surface tbh.

For Rob, I'll start with this one. I feel like I post it every time someone asks me about my favorite gifs or moments but listen, that man's god damn belly makes me feral. The context of the scene is also just peak Dad™ for me so it was 10000/10, absolutely had to gif this the second I watched:

This is an interview but you know when you first start checking out a new dude and you see gifs from interviews/shows where they look particularly tasty and you're immediately like I must find this and watch it or else I will perish. That was this interview for me. And how could it not be? Again...BELLY. Hairy belly. Just big, soft, delicious man meat. And thighs. As soon as I found it I had to gif it for myself so I could make it as obnoxiously big as humanly possible.

I watched this zoom live and the moment this motherfucker turned his head my brain said "gif it". Profile? Nose? Greys?

And this shot too. This man was fucking born to smile, he puts his whole ass into it.

This. His arms here. This scene was dark af but I knew I had to gif it anyway. I adore the shape of this man. It feels so fucking real to me. Soft belly, sizeable arms that still look natural. It's realistic, it's comfy, it's fucking sexy. He's just fucking man-shaped.

I don't even have to tell you why because I know you get it.

I'm an American what do you want from me? 🤡 I'm just kidding, it's not because of the gun. 😅IDK if you've watched Downton, but Thomas is just such a fucking capable man. There isn't a task they set him to that he doesn't excel at and I just felt like it was always overlooked and underappreciated by everyone around him. But I knew immediately I'd be giffing it until my fingers hurt (that legit happens y'all, I'm old 👵) Not only did he spend some time in this episode being the soft, caring uncle but he did it in a cozy sweater and it was like they were sure to hit all my weaknesses at once. Soft cozy men? 👀Then they were kind enough to give us the most beautiful close-up shots of his face. And the boy just has a beautiful fucking face.

For old times' sake, I'm gonna include some Jon just for you but to be fair, I liked him for seven damn years so there were a lot. Too many to list or even remember. But here's a few that maybe aren't the obvious shots!

i don't really have any colourings to share because i don't save them 99% of the time (unless i know i'll color the same scene again soon), i usually color each gif from scratch. but i can give you the usual steps i do to color 911. first i do my sharpen settings (i have made different actions that i'll use accordingly to the scene, and then i have an action i call "coloring lineup" lol, that brings out all the layers i use in the right order. the layer order i use is almost always like this:

i don't always use all of them, but it's the ones i use the more, in usually this order. more details under the cut, i apologize if this is hard to follow, i'm not really good at tutorials haha. oh and i use photoshop cs5 (so old, i know haha, i'm still stuck in 2011 apparently)

Levels

i usually use levels to brighten the scene if needed, by using the white point dropper icon to select the brighter part of the image (or sometimes just a bright spot, not necessary just the brightest will work). this will usually brighten the image and sometimes balance colors. you can also do this with the black point dropper with the darkest part of the image (the dropper on the top).

sometimes when needed i drag the middle slider to the left to make things brighter, and the black slider to the right just a little so things don't look too washed out.(just beware of this with skintones):

Curves

you can do pretty much the same thing as levels with the a curves layer (i know a lot of people do!), but i usually use the curves layer only when i need to add more brightness. i prefer using levels and color balance to balance the colors in the image (i'm just more used to it), and an exposure layer to bring more light.

Exposure

if the image needs more light, i usually up the exposure just a little. usually between +0.10 and +.50

Color Balance

color balance is where i usually spend more time. i do prefer a cold tone to gifsets so i tend to push the yellow out by bringing the color cursors into blue and cyan, if needed. i usually do this for both midtones and highlights. sometimes for shadows too, if it's a particularly dark scene. i'll make sure it's not too magenta or green too. of course it depends on the image, but the sliders often look similar to that:

Channel Mixer

now channel mixer is a miracle worker sometimes! especially if you need to kill out yellow hues, or green, magenta, etc. this tutorial here is really helpful, and much better than anything i would say haha. i usually only use it if i can't correct the colors the way i want to with color balance.

Vibrance

i always add vibrance to my gifs, usually between +20 and +80 on the vibrance slider, and maybe some saturation if the image is particularly bland, but i prefer to add saturation with other layers.

Selective Color

selective color, my beloved!! it's my favorite adjustment layer and what brings the whole thing together. i spend most of my time coloring a gif here. first i will fix the skintones because it's usually too red or yellow or magenta, or even too bland or too bright.

with the Reds i mostly play around to get the skintone to the right shade, with usually the cyan, magenta and yellow sliders.

in Yellows i fix the skintone if needed. it's sometimes too yellow, so i bring the yellow hue down with the yellow slider, and sometimes the cyan slider as well.

if there's still too much magenta left in the skintone, then playing with Magentas to remove it usually does the trick

Neutrals is good the darken or brighten things up a bit with the Black slider, but beware with gifs with poc especially so it doesn't wash them out

i also always have the black slider in Blacks up 10-20%

once the skintones are good, i usually add another selective color layer to play with the other colors that need altering in my opinion. i like to focus on the blues, so i often play with the Cyans and Blues

I usually make greens lush and greener with Greens and Yellows, and even Cyans sometimes, but be sure it doesn't affect the skintones. you can even mask the layer out with a smart mask, i do this often.

Hue/Saturation

this layer is very useful if there's still too much red in skintones especially. i usually go to the reds and bring down the saturation and lightness a bit as needed.

if you want to bring more saturation to a color in particular, you can pick it with the dropper and then play with the saturation or hue levels there. you can even change the range of color the picker selected with the bottom color sliders. it's useful if you want to edit a larger range of colors altogether.

Brightness/Contrast

i always add a bit of brightness/contrast on top of everything. usually the brightness slider is between 0 and 25, and the Contrast slider between 20 and 50.

Black & White

i always put a black & white layer on top of everything, set to Soft Light, at around 10-40% opacity. it adds a bit more crispness and black to the blacks in the image and i don't know, i just like what it adds lol.

and that's it! that's how it goes usually. i've been making gifs for over 10 years and i've used this method for at least half of that lol. of course every show and every gif is different so every layers will have different settings everytime. this is why i prefer coloring from scratch, i find psds don't usually work well on most scenes, because every scene needs different settings.

Favorite Color: Black and red! These are the colors I (and my OCs) wear most often / I have my entire Linux distro customized around / that seem the most pleasant to my eyes. Honorable mentions: green (especially on trees during spring/summer), pastel pink and purple.

Currently Reading: Didn't have time to read books lately, but I bought myself the 3-in-1 collection of Uzumaki by Junji Ito, so these are probably the ones I'll read next. I only read his short stories thus far and I'm hyped.

I have seen A LOT of CEG gifsets on my dash at one point and they were ALL about the bisexual man singing and dancing and having a cute younger bf. I guess, the whole thing about Tumblr is we're all in our own little fandom bubble, and then suddenly something blows up (presumably because it's SO outstanding) to a degree that it makes it into the bubble. And apparently if CEG had good Jewish rep, that was not seen as outstanding enough to blow up and cross into different bubbles.

I'm not saying anything for sure, maybe the Jewish rep on that show really didn’t deserve to blow up, and one thing is def not enough to form a bigger conclusion, but it’s not just one thing. I'm sometimes very frustrated by my Tumblr experience, precisely because this is supposedly a much more open, tolerant and accepting space than other social media sites. Yet, the first ask I ever got? Was from a Holocaust denier. May of 2021? Was hell for a lot of Jewish blogs on this site, I saw way too many getting bullied, some of them to the point where they had to delete completely. I see some blogs reblogging a post with an antisemitic libel one day and the next they reblog a "Happy Hanukkah!" post. Maybe they don’t even understand they’re helping to spread antisemitism, or maybe they’re using the congratulatory post to avoid accusations of being antisemitic, either way it’s a reminder that just because a blog shares one seemingly Jew-friendly post doesn’t actually make that blog a Jew-safe space. I see people going out of their way to love and hold up minority characters, and then leave out the Jewish ones. Posts about all kinds of global crises that affect minorities go viral regularly, but I will never forget the silence on Tumblr as the hostage situation in Texas was going on for 11 hours, and Jews were blogging about it, and some incredible non-Jews were amplifying our voices by reblogging those posts (including some amazing followers of mine), but not a single of these posts went viral, not a single one that I’ve seen made it to even 300 notes, let alone the tens and even hundreds of thousands of notes I’ve seen on other similar posts. It just tells me that something about the way western society educates on the subject of Jews as a minority and of antisemitism has failed. And I don't think it's exclusively about the inadequacies of most Jewish representation, but it's probably linked to (both shaping and being influenced by) it.

Now back to CEG... as you can gather, I have not watched it, but I will thanks to you. IDK when I'll start or how long it will take me, especially since I also just learned the other day that Hunters' s2 is going to air soon and I would like to try and express something about the Jewish representation there before this new (and final) season, which might include doing a quick binge-watch of s1. I'm sorry that i make coven blog some exchange of messages with others but i don't want to talk via messages with anyone, including coven because I had very bad experience with it plus everyone would attack me then. So that's why I use this method here sending anon replies. I agree with you too, anon. I guess that when my opinion wasn't loaded with negative emotions, especially about JK, more people would understand and reply this way before. But I'm only human with emotions that got the best of me. But just like you said. It's exactly this way. I treat coven as confidant who's in this topic and knows about this general obession over JK between fans so that's why it's a relief to spill the tea. But people act offended like it was about them. Maybe it is. But generally many Army's react this way. Idk maybe they don't fight back in rl and that's why they look for fights online. I already said it's some projection from their side. I also fought with others online when I had stesssful day but now i try not to do this. You're right. I've been fucking fighting for four years to not to think about JK. I used to think it's being in love but it's just attraction and fascination that is difficult to get rid of. Sounds like karmic lesson. I get that you're very hurt. And it's okay to like a celebrity like JK. He represents alot of things at the same time. He is one of a very few number of people who backs up being this popular. Talent, looks and a lot of things in one. He is very easy to admire.

Anon, I know how bad it feels when people who are supposed to be your strength end up being the exact opposite and that's why I think people should calm down. At the end of a shitty day all you perhaps want is someone who shares a little bit of sympathy and not just be in an attack mode. So whenever you are deeply sad you vent out by saying stuff about him because you know that it won't affect him. By your posts I know that you know that you don't see him in your life and that's also proof that you are not delusional.

Don't mind me saying this but I think you feel good when all his fans attack you so that you have somebody to say things to. By this kind of fight you can say things that perhaps you won't in real life to the people you have real problems with.

Coven is cute that way. She gets the gossip for the blog and still she protects you because she knows what you feel and it's a win for you both.

Your crush and obsession is not really that. It's just that you don't like that people like him have the scope and opportunity to do things that their heart desires whereas someone like you has to fight for the smallest things.

I don't hate your messages and you don't have to apologize for this behavior because we all lose it sometimes but we are all not surrounded by people who won't judge us like that or admire us deeply for being soft and vulnerable.
