HELLO ANON I HAVE BEEN LOOKING FORWARD TO ANSWERING THIS ASK SINCE I GOT IT (im going to assume you mean byler fics since that is my most recent specialty🫶):

a cruel summer with you by the amazing @campbyler is by FAR one of my all time favorite fics. never in my entire four year fic reading career have i read something that obviously has so much love (and lore) put into it. if you haven’t read it already (or interacted with their blog, which i highly suggest!) this would be one of my first picks! (anything by suni or thea or andi is guaranteed to strike you speechless, though, so definitely check them out as authors, too!)

take a little moment (find the right words) by my lovely friend @astrobei is definitely also in my top all time bc i am SUCH a sucker for college aus it’s not even FUNNY. anything by suni is a banger, honestly, but this one specifically nails the miscommunication/idiots in love trope AND has rotund ducks. what is not to love.

a body in motion (also by @astrobei) is one of the best and most visceral mike character studies i have ever read. i’ve read it twice and the playlist has a permanent place in my spotify library. i don’t think i need to say any more.

sleeping with the lights on by singingseok is another mike character study that tore my heart from my chest and made me watch as it picked it apart and sewed it back together. okay. it’s SO good i highly recommend it for sure!

literally anything by @parkitaco is going to be fantastic, but three of my personal faves are the gaps and the silence, the windows of this love, and you were bigger than the whole sky because apparently i love sobbing into my pillow in the middle of the night. it’s healthy sometimes.

the strawberries are dying by my favorite doopel @lighthouseas is PERFECT if you’re looking for a unique take on byler with a historical spin <3 im a SUCKER for historical aus as well so this great depression fic was so incredibly perfect hehe

landslide by chamb3rs is. it’s so good i don’t even have words. it captures the spirit of senior year of high school so well, especially now that i’m in it lol. anyway, i’ve read this one twice and will continue to read it again for the rest of forever <3

and lastly, if you’re looking for spiderman aus (which i LOVE), look before you leap by lumism, the higher i climb, the farther i fall by @andiwriteordie, and mike wheeler’s guide to falling in love with a superhero by @smoosnoom are all wonderful perfect places to start 💗

As somebody that writes pretty much exclusively Mike and Will POVs, I’ve started to notice that I’m much better at writing plot from Mike’s POV, whereas byler scenes flow much more naturally and easily from Will’s POV. It’s so weird. I can have Mike going through the literal horrors and all sorts of stuff, but when it comes to pining and romantic scenes, they’re better coming from Will. And I struggle writing plot heavy stuff from Will. They can be in the scenes together and be written fine, but with the point of view stuff it’s very particular.

Do y’all know what I’m talking about or am I crazy??

I’m just gonna say it: I know it’s Mlvn’s finding byler as such a legitimate threat that stops them from enjoying absolutely HILARIOUS dynamic Mike and Will would have as the straight-and-gay best friend duo, because there’s no other reason to pass up what could easily be one of the most hysterical dynamics of all time. Like?

Down-the-Line Will (over his initial feelings for Mike) finding out he has a crush on another straight man—only for Mike to notice, threaten to fight said man for being an asshole, and Will just sitting there facepalming because Mike was the stupid straight man before (or just this energy in general)

College!Will being too afraid to go to pride alone and Mike being absolutely so “I’m gonna paladin mode this” extra he goes out of his way to be a true ally, learn more about it and even attend with him…only to end up getting in a fight with homophobes (again) and the police (again) over them being rude + trying to put reigns on a good, informative time

Newly (or temporarily, if they really want to stick to mlvn) single Mike being shit with women and going to Will for help being more desirable to them because (despite being gay) he pulls harder than literally anyone else in the party

But NO.

Even their explorations of a friendship that literally defines the show is permanently stifled…because they don’t actually believe Mike could never have feelings back, or even consider that the straightest versions of Mike & Will would still be the best of friends.

Even the “I’m gay/bi and still ship mlvn” kids overlook the potential of this—which is how I know it’s rooted in homophobia and not really paying attention to the dynamics of characters in the show ☠️ and no, it’s become abundantly clearer over time that straight!mike isn’t how it’s going down in canon but ??? This interim space between S4-S5 would have been perfect for that…if you loved the characters more than you loved a fight.

Unfortunately, one major reason streamers like Netflix don’t plan on breaking any time soon in the strike, is because it could have the potential to inspire others to fight for fair pay if it ended up being fairly easy for the writers to do it.

They would rather wait it out for as long as they can, making writers risk financial ruin, so that they have no choice but to agree to a deal that is, at best, half of what they were initially asking.

This means that going into this strike, from Netflix’s pov, it could go on until September, at least, and they would be fine with that.

They assume that by then, writers will have been picketing for 4+ months, without pay, and won’t be able to go on for much longer.

Upon being asked about the impending strike a few weeks prior to it starting, Ted Sarandos said that they have at least 6 months of backlog set in stone. And so apparently, he’s comfortable with sitting it out that long at least.

Though, it is worth saying that as bleak as it all sounds, we’re 3 weeks in and there is a lot of support for the writers. With how bad things are PR wise for Netflix, one could argue they might just say fuck it were used to it and push through. However at the same time, they’ve been struggling with subscriber growth a lot more than ever before, they could be on the brink of risking it all regardless. So if they come to realize fighting this fight as posing a serious risk for them in the short term and long term, something they definitely don’t want to have to admit to their investors at the next conference, they’ll need to get their shit together sooner than later.

I know it’s frustrating to imagine the strike still going on late into 2023, but if we can put our heads together now, this early on still, maybe it won’t have to be that long?

It really does feel like there’s nothing we can do, but showing support and informing others about it so it doesn’t just dwindle to background chatter is a start!
