On a FAM trip to the wonderful hidden gem that is Knockendarroch. @knockendarroch_hotel is perched above Pitlochry with views over the town and surrounding hills. The stunning property has 15 bedrooms in the main house, two of them being suites and 3 premium rooms. All the rooms are furnished to a very high standard. Despite that the property enjoys modern touches like hassle, free Wi-Fi in every part of the building and USB plug charging sockets. There are spacious comfortable lounge areas with roaring log fires. The staff are lovely and very professional. The beds are comfortable. The showers are hot and the food is exquisite. Head Chef, Nick Imrie, has been cooking at Knockendarroch since 2016. His modern Scottish menus change every day and use seasonal and locally sourced ingredients where appropriate. Another one from the Alba archives. Coldingham Loch is a shallow, nutrient rich, spring-fe loch in Berwickshire, about an hour east of Edinburgh. From the position the photo is taken a few hundred yards beyond the holiday cottage the Berwickshire coastal path meanders along some of the most spectacular clifftop vistas in Scotland and a place of Geological significance, in fact probably one of the top 3 in the world, Siccar Point where Dr James Hutton cemented his theories on Non Conformity and presented his findings on rock formations and the Laws Observable in the Composition, Dissolution and Restoration of Land upon the Globe, to the Royal Society of Edinburgh in 1785. Back to the loch ii and many of our guides have fished here for over 30 years. It was one of the first lochs in Scotland to introduce rainbow trout to supplement the wild trout stock. At the deepest point of 40ft this offers some thermal protection in the height of summer. It is predominantly a “top of the water” venue with fish taken on dries and emerger patterns. The evening fly hatches are something to behold. Nearest to the camera is the legend and SGAIc qualified guide Steve Culbert. An ex marine, brilliant guide and great bloke. Steve’s had a few health challenges over the last year and we all miss him on the water and lo ok forward to fishing with him in better times.
