20240129. Mechamato Movie, Japanese dub! :D

So minggu ni ialah minggu pertama Mechamato Movie versi bahasa Jepun ditayangkan kat pawagam Malaysia. Kali ni sambutan agak kureng la makcik tengok, maybe sebab sekarang ni musim peperiksaan. Ataupun sebab Mechamato Movie ni ialah movie sama pernah tayang tahun 2022-2023, cuma tukar bahasa je.

So target audience mainly ialah yang dah tengok Mechamato Movie versi bahasa Melayu, dan jugak orang yang minat siri Mechamato versi Jepun. (Tapi kalau first time tengok pun boleh je, ada subtitle BM, BI ngan BC. Cuma tu la, sape suruh tertinggal banyak keretapi tengok versi Melayu - pawagam, Netflix, Astro First, dll. tahun lepas. Sekarang baru sibuk nak tengok versi Melayu. Dulu taknak tengok.)

Spoiler gila2 kat bawah. Sape tak pernah tengok, pergi tengok dulu baru baca spoiler ni.

Anyway. Perbandingan Mechamato Movie Japanese ngan Mechamato Movie BM:

1) Memandangkan VA untuk versi Jepun rata2 ialah non-Muslim, movie jugak ditayang kepada non-Muslim, memang mustahil la nak jumpa ucapan2 yang karekter2 Muslim ni sebut.

Assalamulaikum & Wa'alaikumsalam jadi "Ittekimasu" (saya pergi dulu) dan "Itterasshai" (selamat jalan) - diucapkan oleh Amato & makpaknya bila Amato keluar rumah.

The meremang-inducing Bismillah oleh Maskmana semasa nak buka jurus silat melawan Grakakus jadi "Kakugo shiro" (bersedialah kamu). Auto jadi tak remang.

Tapi kena faham. Audience untuk versi Jepun kebanyakannya ialah non-Muslim. Islam ialah agama minoriti kat sana. Dan banyak orang kat luar sana masih salah anggap Islam ni ialah... (faham2 sudah). So bagi hakak ni kira jalan selamat la supaya tak dicari point buruk oleh "nurtizen" (keyboard warriors) kat luar sana.

Tapi bila benda ni dibesarkan oleh team Monsta sendiri yang (1) sorang pun tak ada pergi tengok / pantau proses alih suara kat Jepun ke? dan (2) insist nak jugak ada Bismillah padahal benda dah siap ni, I be like "errr..." 🤦

2) Lagu "Temaniku" dinyanyikan balik ke bahasa Jepun dengan tajuk "Tomodachi". Suka versi ni. Hahaha jahat je

3) Lagu BBB (??? Beca Boys) dipotong so tinggal babak kejar-mengejar antara robot suruhan Grakakus dengan Amato + Mechabot versi Mechabeca. First timer maybe tak akan perasan, tapi mungkin perasan jugak sebab sebelum adegan kejar-mengejar ni, memang ada pertandingan beca tercantik dan Datuk Bandar ada umum persembahan oleh BBB (tapi benda ni tak berlaku).

4) Mid-credit scene pasal Boboiboy dipotong dan ditukar kepada secret ending team Maskmana jumpa Bago Go, tetiba abahnya Amato (Aba) muncul (movie BM tak ada benda ni, tapi YT Monsta ada kalau tak silap).

Ingatkan ada la versi Boboiboy kat end credit bila mid-credit ditunjuk secret ending team Maskmana + Aba tu, tapi takde. Hampa makcik. Hahaha

Maybe sebab BBB series, BBBM & BBBM2 tak sampai ke Jepun, idk. Atau maybe belum / kurang popular kat Jepun. Padahal boleh je guna mid-credit tu untuk (re-)introduce Boboiboy, cumanya faham2 je la, kena start daripada 1st season semasa 3-D animation belum canggih lagi.

5) Dari segi voice acting, Jepun ada ekspresi bagus. Tapi benda simple macam "Apakah??" dan "Tingginya!" dipanjang2kan.

So "Apakah??" jadi something like, "What the bloody hell is that???" dan "Tingginya!" jadi something like, "Whoaaaaaa it's too high, I'm falling!!!" (Bukan ayat Jepun sebenar. Makcik bukannya terer sangat bahasa Jepun boleh ingat ayat diorang sebiji-sebiji lol tapi memang panjang. Banyak pulak cakapnya.)

Sama la signature Amato, "Kan?" jadi "Da~yo na!"

So yeah, mulut tak sync dengan ucapan. (Kena faham, re-rendering mulut nak bagi sync dengan ucapan versi Jepun = belanja extra. Tak puluh ribu, juta. Sape nak bazir duit cenggitu 🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂)

Ha tu je la yang makcik nak cakap. Memang spoil gila2 la kalau korang tak tengok movie ni tapi pergi cari review dulu.

Dah baca spoiler ni, ha. Pergi tengok. Now. Sekarang. Sementara ada tayangan ni. Dah la tempoh terhad je.

Ooo wait are your thoughts on the two boboiboy movies?

Wah, Nice one!

I've had nostalgic memories when I rewatched movie 1. Particularly because it was the last entry I followed before I went on hiatus. ... 8 years ago I think?

Whereas I watched the second one during my marathon session this year.

Due to 'my messed-up order of watching' this series, I ended up knowing big spoilers about The movie 2 and I forced to give up my 'anti-spoiler' act before I watched it. Kinda of a bummer for the general view, but you know what? It made the scene more fascinating to watch!

"Oh this is Retak'ka? THE Retak'ka?"

"No wonder why Adudu is so into martial arts now."

"So that's how Ice got his bow eh?"

"Oh Fu-Yes! The debut of Fusion Elementals!!!!"

ehem.

From a general technical standpoint, they stepped up their game drastically. Of course, it's for movies after all. They went bold for expanding the areas, improving the graphics, increasing action scenes, and also adding more music as well.

At the same time, they also upgrade Boboiboy and Kokotiam gang's power so it's making it a 'bit' op for the sake of spectacle. It's not that bad in a negative way, I understand that because the enemies themselves were hella strong as shit. (the first one used a black hole and the second one used all-in-one power hunger fest that could also destroy the galaxy. Logically the earth's supposed to be gone by now :/).

I loved what they did to the lighting and hue for both movies. it's like watching smash bros ultimate but in the movies(weird reference I know but hope you get the idea :/)

The details! Holy- IT'S SO PRETTY~~~

Both of them were also establishing the expansion power of elementals and what they can do about it. The first one was the fight with all elementals showcased and the second one was the alternative way of fighting by combining two elementals.

Alsoooo both finally managed to properly introduce the one and only .... Boboiboy Hatless! :D

I'd say they had a fair share of hiding it perfectly well. Cleverly teasing the audience to grasp 'Why the hell do they keep hiding his hair with that particular angle?' Because... If I'm not wrong, Boboiboy was one of the characters that falls in the same category with Upin&Ipin: limiting the haircut for animation efficiency during the first production.

So when his hat does let off, It is always an impeccable scene to watch. That trick never fails to amaze me. (like Professor Layton's hat case :3)

Now I wonder how much screen time his hat is off for the movie 3? I'm sure it takes a lot more than the previous one since his 3rd tier is pure hat off(and dyed hair).

If I want to say from my opinion. Movie 1 has its standout over Movie 2 and vice versa. Both have ups & downs yet they are equivalent to each other. For instance: the timing to add their theme song was a bit out of place in movie 1 so the latter fixed that, whereas the Fang and Ying banter in their language was lacking in movie 2 when the former had this iconic scene (sound on recommend) :]

Oh speaking of Music, my god their theme songs are epi~~~c

I remember how hyped I was when one of my fav local band, D'masiv, created a credits song for Movie 1 AND Galaxy season 1. But heck all movie themes in order are wholesome af!!! 'Masih Disini' - 'Dibawah Langit yang Sama' - 'Fire & Water' are in my repeat playlist recently. So overwhelming that I actually cried? The montage during Fire & Water played was not a sad moment but heck I cried because it's soo touching for no reason.

Oh yeah, I forgot it's a family movie so they have rights to not make any deaths scene. I can understand why yet I'm still disappointed.

I cried. HARD when I saw Tok Kasa collapsed. It portrayed emphatically well and worked for new characters that was introduced a bit short.

Then, not long after that, we got this

(I guess they didn't want to do another httyd 2 moment. It's too painful for kids to watch)

So... There's my review. Honestly I don't know what goes on for movie 3. It could be anything after season 2. But if I may guess...

It's between father and son now...

Mechabot was worried since Ochobot was kinda mandatory(even if it really wanted it no where near bbb) because they needed Ochobot to help figure out how bbb's powers worked and to make sure bbb wouldn't hurt himself while practicing using it(since they had no dedicated space for it, they would often sneak off to a more abandoned area, kinda like the spooky mansion that Fang uses for his stay)

With the presence of two power spheres in the vicinity of children, Mechabot would often hide around/near Kokotiam Gang(-Fang) instead of being out in the open like Ochobot, even when they are alone on the field

Api

Mechabot didn't show it but it was upset that Boboiboy didn't confide in it, once the element was revealed to have appeared due to stress, it couldn't help but play.

Play with bbb like it used to, to loosen up a bit and to help.

It had always feared a responsibility this big would cause too much stress for the kid.

Mechabot helped soothe Boboiboy's stress during Api's arc and still does make sure the boy isn't stressed. If bbb happens to be, Mechabot lets loose for a bit and plays like they used to(there is a small frame of time before the supposed disappearance/death of Amato and his wife, just enough time for the power sphere to start caring.... which isn't a lot because Mechabot basically became friends with Amato in the span of 3-4 days in the movie)

Air

Mechabot was proud Boboiboy believed he could defeat Boboibot... It just wished his elements weren't being unlocked in such uncontrolled environments(Mechabot has been really careful since.... It will interfere if it's too dangerous for the kids)

As evidenced by Api's first appearance, bbb's emotions play a big role in the unlocking of an element. To have a young child unlock such power in situations that may get out of hand/are unsafe could result in disaster.

Duri and Solar(No first tiers)

Mechabot was in awe at how powerful bbb was, of course it helped but with the restrictions it was under it couldn't do much.

That did not stop it from frantically asking if bbb was ok or not.

It helped repair damages and was making sure bbb and his friends were adjusting well to the upgrade their power watches had gotten

Miraculous Ladybug vs Agent Ali/Ejen Ali Comparison post : Introduction

So in my previous post about this mention about “Three Malaysian Superhero Cartoon have better handle than ML”. For anyone wonder what Cartoon I mean is “BoBoiBoy” “Ejen Ali (Agent Ali)” and “Mechamato”. All of this show have same demographic with Miraculous, a Kids Show with Action who also beloved by older viewer. 

While the three shows also have their specific flaws, they still have its consistency and better handle than Miraculous. The show creator and writers know what is the main core about the show. Its about Kids being Superhero and Secret Agents. Despite this, they still allow to bring some serious heavy issue or drama to make the show interesting instead of a fanservice. They do have some “soft reboot” to expand their world building and stuff but it never become messy like Miraculous.

Miraculous constantly has retcon and it become utterly MESS because The Writer feel viewer are idiots and only care about the ships. This is make The Writer and That Guy has zero idea what the show is about ! Its about a shojo-esque cartoon ? Its about silly teenage-romance ? Girls Power ? Family Drama ? They DON’T KNOW about that ! I would like to said this show is about a wild fantasy of grown-man about his “ideal virtual daughter” who obsessed with freaking white boy and that its ! 

Since I already see many of post who compare Miraculous with other show about the consistency and the handle, here I will make the same post with one of Malaysian Cartoon and I will choose this cartoon : 

For comparison post, I think Miraculous is deserve to be compared with Ejen Ali. Gotta admit this is my favorite show to the point my current Tumblr name “jennycinco-5″ is based from one of the villain of this show. I like to said that Ali is a “what if Adrien and Marinette become ONE CHARACTER but with good characterization and handle”. I said that because Ali share same parental neglect issue with Adrien after the death of their mother and he also have some Marinette personality. But the show handle him mooore better than Marinette and Adrien. Making Ali become lot more interesting as the story progress

mechabot and ochobot were friends ther. ochobotr was responsible and hardworkinhg while mechabot was more on shits and giggles and didnt gaf about any work (he may or may not still have basic knowledge). she goes on telling hjim off but it doesnt work on him anwyay sooo what shes doing is practiclalyu useless

also an idea erm i havent watched the whole of mechamato series but judging by tghe movie mechabotr was severeluy traumatized as he lost (assumin g_) the one ever person who ghenuinely cared about him. he copes by making fun of himself and joking around how he could let his master die

I wonder if any BoBoiBoy fan on tumblr is still trying to see it for what it's NOT trying to be. When I say this I mean some personal character driven story accompanying a space adventure. It just isn't and never tried to be. Fang's arc was a happy coincidence to their writing style of just trying out new types of stories with fun character banter on the side. Even when they do a more active approach to character growth like Adu Du, it's less to have this grand thing with the character's journey and more of an avenue for new types of adventures our heroes face. So most characters who have any sort of thing going mostly have em be secondary. BoBoiBoy's arc of power and responsibility is a thing he learns passively in the first season and other aspects of it as a consequence to what goes on in season 3 and the movies but never the big main point of the stories. The arc is present but it's secondary to the stories they tell. Fang just so happen to have some his payoffs in the spotlight at the right time for his arc to feel grander than it really is. Some of us including me in the past have kind of deluded ourselves into thinking the character writing is a higher priority to the writers than it really is.

Admittedly I too would like to see characters expand more but Ying seems to always meant to be just the "foil" character in all sorts of different character dynamics but to be fair, sometimes, characters don't always need to be developed to be good, we just spoiled ourselves with modern shows doing so and setting the expectations that there's only one way of writing characters good. Yaya meanwhile has "let's see how much unhinged stuff she has underneath her nice girl exterior" to the point that the season 2 comics basically imply she's at the point where she's using her own cookies to troll her friends

Mechamato I feel is kind of the perfect show to really highlight what exactly Monsta wants to do with their writing style. Tells stories with action and fun character banter, especially when they no longer have the baggage of needing to write an ever expanding storyline thanks to the shows format.
