Summary: Y/N’s career and life is met with drama after she won the Smackdown Women’s Championship at Wrestlemania 38.

January 2022- Royal Rumble

“She did it! Y/R/N did it! She’s going to Wrestlemania!” Michael Cole’s voice boomed from commentary as you pointed to Wrestlemania, making fireworks go off in the background. The crowd was on their feet, cheering. Happy tears were flying down your face, clouding up your vision. You got down from the turnbuckle and started walking to the stage, with the audience chanting “You deserve it!” in the background. You high-fived kids and thanked your supporters.

As soon as you got backstage you were tackled in a hug by Naomi (Trinity) and your cousin, Sasha Banks (Mercedes). You grinned as other people congratulated you, both friends and foes, including Charlotte Flair (who you eliminated last in the rumble). After completing an interview, you sat backstage with Trinity and Mercedes, discussing the plans for tonight and tomorrow.

“I’m so happy you won lil cousin.” Mercedes with a big grin. “I told Trin that if it wasn’t one of us, it had better been you.”

“Yeah girl, you truly deserve it,” Trinity said giving you a huge hug.

You debuted in WWE at 20, after being in the independent scene since you were 15 years old. You spent the latter part of your teenage years wrestling all over the world (specifically in Japan and the United States), so much so that you had to get your GED. But it was all worth it just to be able to stand in the ring. You won multiple championships and accomplishments in companies such as Stardom, Revolution Pro Wrestling, Shimmer, DDT, and Ice Ribbon; you quickly became popular in the wrestling community. But you always had a dream to wrestle in the WWE, especially alongside your cousin.

After being opted out of NXT, you debuted on Raw in 2016; before going on to win the Raw Women’s Championship 3 times and the Smackdown Women’s Championship twice. You’ve been toe-to-toe and head-to-head with the best, including Charlotte, Becky Lynch, Natalya, Mickie James, and Mercedes. But like how it is to everyone on the roster, Wrestlemania is a very important event to you, and being able to have a guaranteed ticket to it; is the best thing in the world at the moment.

“Thanks, y’all! Do you know who was supposed to win this year?” You ask

Both Mercedes and Trinity made a face. Mercedes rolled her eyes while asking, “Who do you think?”

You exclaimed. “Ah, Miss Part-Time.”

“Exactly. At times, I wonder why she’s here.”

“No, because it’s the fact people who have been working here for almost a decade and they don’t get half of the opportunities that Ronda gets. It makes no sense.” You said to pack up some of your things. You had respect for Ronda, in terms of her UFC career. But as a wrestler (and sometimes as a person), you had little to no respect for her. As a person who has given up multiple aspects of her life just to have the opportunity to get in the ring, you were beyond disgusted and angry at her perspective of the wrestling industry and towards your friends (including Mercedes).

However, that is a story for a little bit later….Now, you have to focus on an actual champ.

“But enough about her. What championship are you going win at the grandest stage of them all?” Trinity asked nudging you.

You gave a small smile, filled with determination and mischief, and said, “I’m going to win that Smackdown Women’s Championship from Charlotte Flair.”

And in 3 months, you did exactly that…

April 2022 - Wrestlemania 38

Imagine how you felt winning the Royal Rumble….okay…now times those emotions by 10,000.

That’s how it felt as the confetti came down, fireworks sounded off, fans chanted your name, tears overwhelmed your face, and your newly won championship was wrapped around your waist by Charlotte.

“Y/R/N has truly become the Real Deal in the WWE! After beating Charlotte Flair in a legendary match, Y/R/N stands before you, on the glorious stage of Wrestlemania, as your new Smackdown Women’s Champion!”

 “Y/R/N! Congrats!”

“Great performance Y/R/N!”

All these sayings and more just filled your ears as you hugged your parents, who were there at ringside. As you walked up the ramp of Wrestlemania, you took in the last couple of moments of the crowd before being met with even more cheers from your coworkers; being pulled into hugs left and right. Then Mercedes, Trinity, and Bianca Belair hugged you while bringing you to the photoshoot area. You took multiple pictures with your friends before going to your locker room.

“Girl, we’re gonna celebrate tonight!” Trinity exclaimed.

“No, we’re gonna celebrate after you and Sasha win those tag titles,” Bianca said making you laugh. You smiled before looking at your phone, looking through all your notifications. But your smile soon became a frown as you didn’t see the one you were looking for the one you wanted. “He didn’t text yet?”

Sighing, you said, “Nope. He said he was gonna be here. I haven’t seen him yet.”

“All you need to do is turn around.” A voice said behind you. You turned around and immediately started to squeal, running towards the voice. As you jumped their arms, their body rumbled with a chuckle. It was your boyfriend of six months, Carmelo Hayes. “My baby is so cute.” He gave you a bouquet of roses, filled with your favorite colors.

“Awe, look at the happy couple.” Bianca cooed.

“Thanks, baby.” You smiled, kissing him on the cheek. You lead him over to a private corner real quick as your friends kept making kissing faces.

“I’m so proud of you. My little champ.” You could honestly say that Carmelo is the best boyfriend you’ve ever had. He was so sweet: buying you gifts, showering you with love, and ensuring that you get the best of the best. “So what are we doing tonight? I was thinking candlelight dinner in that nice restaurant downtown-“

“Um, actually, I wanted to either go out to drinks with the girls or just go to sleep honestly. But you are more than welcome to come out with u-“

His smile dropped. “Are you serious?” Carmelo said, raising his voice. “You rather hang with your friends than me?”

On other days, you could honestly say that Carmelo is an arrogant and envious man on a bad day. But you told him (and yourself) that you would love him no matter what. “No, it’s just I haven’t hung out with them in a hot minute.”

“Y/N, You never have time for me now.”

“What are you talking about? We hung out after Stand & Deliver, literally two days ago.” You rolled your eyes before briefly glancing towards your friends, who were standing with concerned faces.

“Yeah, that was after I lost-“ He paused before squinting at you. “So what you think you’re too good for me now?”

“What? No-“

“Just cause you have a championship now? You think you’re better than me?” He said getting closer to your face. Started to feel angry yet sad, and you just looked up at him. “Fine, go out. I don’t care. But I better not get a call tonight.” He said before stomping away from you, slamming your locker room door shut. Immediately, Bianca, Trinity, and Mercedes looked at you, with Bianca walking towards you.

“Are you okay?” Bianca said, rubbing your back.

“Yeah. He’s just having a bad day” You quietly stated. Were you? Yeah, only because it’s now a regular occurrence. It happens almost every time something good happens. You liked Carmelo, hell you like him more than the other people you were involved with. He always had this charm that convinced you to stay or to get over it after anything bad; it wasn’t your fault, and it wasn’t his (it never was). After a while, you decided not to let this little thing get in the way of a quote-on-quote good relationship. And now, you decided to not let him ruin your good night.

“I never liked him for you,” Mercedes said throwing her heels in her bag. Mercedes, being your cousin, was always protective of you. She tried her best to ensure that no harm could reach you, including men who she thought weren’t good enough for you. Seeing how you are now, it’s safe to say you never listen. Always drowning her out to go after anything heart first. “I always thought that he was a douche to a certain extent.”

“Talented,” Trinity started. “But a talented douche.” She finished as Mercedes nodded.

“Anyways!” Bianca started, rolling her eyes at your friends. “Get ready, 'cause we’re about to go out!”

Nodding, you walked away to take a shower. Around 30 minutes later, you got dressed in another outfit before leaving the locker with your friends in tow. You made it to the parking garage; and as you were about to turn the corner, you were face to face with a person who: one- you didn’t like, and two- who was going to be gunning for your new title soon. “Rousey.” You said with a monotone voice.

“Congratulations, champ,” Ronda said with emphasis on the last word. “You won the title on the grandest stage of them all. But you also won the opportunity to be the person I’m gonna beat for it. I say by Money in the Bank, I’ll be the new champion.” She smirked as you lifted a brow.

You slightly chuckled, “We’ll see about that. Don’t get it twisted, I’ve beaten you before and I can beat you again. And this-“ You motioned to your championship. “Will be just the icing on the cake” Ronda looked around at Trinity, Bianca, and Mercedes before deciding to walk away.

“I really don’t like her,” Mercedes said before putting her bags in the car. You followed before getting in the passenger seat. You whipped out your phone, which had more notifications than the last time you checked it. However, only two stuck out to you. Each of them makes your heart skip a beat and gives you butterflies in your stomach for different reasons.

“Y/N?” Trinity said pulling you out of your thoughts. You looked at her. “Are you ready for the trip?”

“Oh, yeah. I am.” You said looking back at the phone.

But truth be told, you weren’t ready. You weren’t ready for the trip of your career or life.

Not at all.

Getting Rowdy: The Unreleased Matches of Roddy Piper

A few months ago I covered the DVD set WWE released chronicling the ‘unseen’ matches of “Macho Man” Randy Savage. Today I continue that trend covering those lines of DVD collections with 2019’s Getting Rowdy: The Unreleased Matches of Roddy Piper (trailer). Like with WWE’s other ‘unreleased’ line of home videos, all the matches and segments featured in here have never been released on video before. With WWE already releasing a comprehensive three-disc DVD set to Piper with 2006’s Born to Controversy, that means we are getting a collection full of deep cuts here. This two disc DVD is compiled similarly to the Randy Savage set where we get original, newly recorded interviews intersperse with the archival content. The interviews are from Piper mega-fan, “Rowdy” Ronda Rousey which are mixed in with archived home video interviews with Piper for added context. There are six sets of Rousey interviews, and they are sporadically inserted throughout the collection which also features 19 matches, nine promos and 12 editions of Piper’s legendary interview show, Piper’s Pit. WWE has established that Rousey is essentially the endorsed successor to carry on the Piper legacy, with Ronda paying homage to “The Hot Rod” by rocking her version of Piper’s entrance attire and carrying on his nickname. With that in mind, having Ronda being the featured new set of interviews to draw from seems like a fitting choice to commemorate Piper’s career here and are nice ways to mix up this collection.

Ronda’s interviews are insightful on how she drew on Roddy for inspiration on MMA needing an antagonist, and how excited she was to finally meet him. I presumed she maintained a close relationship with Piper, and was surprised to learn in Rousey’s interviews here that she only met him once early in her MMA career when she got the blessing from Roddy to use his nickname and then a second time when she appeared on Pipers podcast, which was just a month shy of his death in July of 2015. Rousey went on to say one of her biggest regrets is not having a close relationship with him. There is a nice variety of the nine Piper interviews/promos included. There is a handful of the vintage Rock ‘n Wrestling era promos where Piper bellows out promos in front of a blue screen backdrop. A nice nostalgic bonus is a few vintage commercials where Piper maniacally shouts at you to purchase the latest WWE action figures. There are a few standout go-home PPV interviews here where Piper is on fire and by the end of them he got me just as fired up as Virgil for his upcoming WrestleMania match against Ted Dibiase, and on top of that is an especially intense promo with Bret Hart leading up to their WrestleMania VIII battle. There are three Roddy promos from his late 90’s WCW days, with a bewildering rant from a cell in Alcatrez and Hulk Hogan provoking Piper to cut loose on him and Bishoff in front of his son, Colt, standing out the most. These WCW promos have boisterous crowds capturing the high times WCW was riding at that time in the ‘Monday Night Wars.’

It is no surprise that Piper’s rougher, brawling style will not warrant many five star classics, but a fair amount of his 19 matches here have crowds eating up the chaos Piper is delivering. I have only seen a handful of Piper’s early NWA work before, so seeing a few more of his NWA matches unearthed for this set was a treat, and his match against Jay Youngblood is a smashmouth brawl that goes to a time limit draw, and I loved seeing Piper tag with Ole Anderson against Mike Davis and Buddy Landell. There are a lot of the big arena house show matches here that were previously televised only in local markets, and like a lot of those matches in other sets, usually feature good action until a hokey finish. That is the case here with a killer clash against Paul Orndorff in 1985 fresh into their rivalry, with the crowd going bokers for them until a double countout finish. Just as riveting is Piper’s match in this set against Rick Rude where the crowd is losing it throughout, but a lot of tomfoolery I will not even begin to explain transpires and is the catalyst for one of the strangest DQ finishes I have seen.

Piper teaming with Eddie and Blue-tista, looking like gold! Piper feuding with the nWo had the crowd on its feet! There are two matches on here against Mr. Perfect worth going out of your way to see. I know Mr. Fuji was an accomplished wrestler in the 70s, but never seen him in a match until this set where he is pummeled for a couple minutes against Piper until his fellow managers run in for the save. A lot of the latter matches in the back half of Getting Rowdy are quick TV matches with wonky finishes unfortunately, but for what it is worth, still draw rabid crowd reactions. There are two Nitro bouts included against Hulk Hogan and Randy Savage in 1998, but both bouts have several nWo run-ins that result in both matches being thrown out. I forgot about Piper’s brief 2003 run with Sean ‘O Haire, so it was nice to see those two again when Piper had a short encounter with Rikishi. The last match is an awesome impromptu bout against The Miz for $5000 of The Miz’s money, with Alex Reilly (remember him!?) as guest referee in 2011. I have zero recollection of this match, and even at a couple minutes long it was an absolute delight!

Getting Rowdy was jacked with 24 installments of Piper’s Pit, but WWE had quite a few more to draw upon from the vault with 12 more here. Some of the early ones in this collection that were a riot were where both Jimmy Hart and the Brooklyn Brawler ruthlessly provoke Roddy to giving them a a well-earned beatdown. There are a bunch in the second half of this set when Piper would periodically show up on RAW and SmackDown for a special Piper’s Pit. Two that really got me were one with John Cena where Piper does a tremendous job at needling Cena into living up to his then-current t-shirt slogan, ‘Rise Above Hate’ and another where Roddy moderates AJ Lee attempting to get back into Daniel Bryan’s good graces after costing him his WrestleMania match against Sheamus. I enjoyed this collection more than I anticipated. As I mentioned earlier, Piper was not known for his epic wrestling abilities, so I was not letdown from the wide range of match quality from the 19 matches in the set. There are a few matches that are hidden gems in here for what it is worth, but the real reason everyone should check out Getting Rowdy: The Unreleased Matches of Roddy Piper, is for the many unreleased promos and Piper’s Pit interviews. While he may not have been a five star wrestler, Piper was easily a five star entertainer, and that is readily apparent from beginning to end in this collection.

Those Piper action figure commercials are iconic, and this set is full of iconic promos I have never seen before where the Hot Rod made Virgil look like a million bucks! WWE 2K22 révèle d'abord regarder Umaga

WWE 2K22 a récemment révélé le premier regard sur le nouvel ensemble de Superstars WWE qui vient au jeu dans le Banzai Pack DLC, et nous avons maintenant un premier regard sur une autre légende de la WWE. Nous avons précédemment vu Yokozuna et nous avons maintenant notre premier regard sur Umaga. Yokozuna avait l'air fantastique et Umaga a l'air tout aussi impressionnant, surtout avec tous les détails des tatouages et de sa ressemblance. Les autres superstars présentées dans le paquet à venir sont Yokozuna, Omos, Rikishi et Kacy Catanzaro, et il semblerait que nous obtiendrons au reste de la DLC Pack au cours de la semaine suivante, à mesure qu'il quitte le 26 avril.

Umaga, vrai nom Eddie Futu, a d'abord rejoint la WWE (puis WWF) en 2002 mais n'était qu'avec la société depuis environ un an. Il aurait vraiment frappé sa foulée pendant son retour à la WWE en 2005, où il a débuté comme Umaga. Mortal Kombat 11 Klassic Skin Pack Proves the Movie Still Rules

One of Mortal Kombat 11’s initial creative blunders ended up being one of its greater strengths in the long run. As a bit of stunt casting, NetherRealm decided to replace Mortal Kombat X’s Tricia Helfer with MMA and WWE star Ronda Rousey as the voice of series mainstay Sonya Blade. Considering the excess of dialogue in the game’s story mode and countless pre-fight exchanges, Rousey’s questionable delivery turned a lot of people off on the character. It’s no wonder the studio didn’t bother giving Sonya any lines when Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath added a second story mode campaign.

Belgian DJ Dimitri Vegas also became a Sub-Zero skin and also recorded voice lines for the classic fighter for some reason. As you’d expect, Vegas’ delivery is bad but also hilarious in a “Why does this even exist?” kind of way.

That’s not to say that all celebrity voice acting is bad in this game. In a truly inspired move, NetherRealm brought in Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa to play Shang Tsung as both the host of the game’s Krypt and as the first DLC character. Tagawa’s portrayal of Shang Tsung in the 1995 Mortal Kombat movie has made him the most iconic take on the character, so it’s an absolute treat to see the game model the character after his cinematic depiction, down to recreating his infamous “Your soul is mine!” close-up as his victory animation. The Aftermath story mode is written entirely around Tagawa, who chews up the digital scenery as the villain. God bless NetherRealm Studios for it.

Soon after, the guest characters arrived. Arnold Schwarzenegger didn’t have time to voice the Terminator, but he did have his face scanned and he hand-picked an impersonator. Peter Weller reprised his role as RoboCop, Keith David brought his trademark throat gravel back to Spawn, and Sylvester Stallone got to be John Rambo one more time. And if you do a Rambo vs. Rambo match, one of the two hints that he’s actually Rocky Balboa, so there’s that!

Now we have the Mortal Kombat 11 Klassic MK Movie Skin Pack. Wow, that’s a mouthful. Adding to the Shang Tsung fun, you can now play as Sonya Blade, Raiden, and Johnny Cage as portrayed by their 1995 actors!

Up first is “Island Bound” Sonya Blade as portrayed by Bridgette Wilson. 1995 was a good year for Wilson, who was also Adam Sandler’s third grade teacher and love interest in Billy Madison. While her action sequences in the movie weren’t top tier, her constantly annoyed look made her a staple of the Mortal Kombat movie. She didn’t know what the hell was going on, but man, she did NOT have time for any of that shit.

Next is “Earthrealm” Raiden played by Christopher Lambert. Raiden didn’t do any real fighting in the first movie, but he was there to deliver lots of exposition, advice, and pure snark in his French accent — there was something truly wonderful about the way he pronounced “adversaries.” With the video game version of Raiden being seen as damaged goods due to how much of a bumbling doofus he’s been in the last few installments, we could use Lambert to liven him up a bit. Fun fact: Lambert even starred in a French commercial for Mortal Kombat 11, where he effortlessly defeated another player by using Raiden.

Finally, there’s “Hollywood Kombatant” Johnny Cage with none other than Linden Ashby. The most quotable character in a movie full of quotable characters, Ashby’s Cage is a dopey egomaniac with a hero within. Naturally, the sequel told you how bad it was going to be from the very beginning by recasting and then immediately killing Johnny for the sake of making Sonya feel bad for a scene or two. As much as I love Andrew Bowen’s portrayal of Johnny in the last few games, Ashby walked so Bowen could run. Or Ashby split so Bowen could punch?

Where is the rest of the Mortal Kombat movie cast? Why aren’t they in Mortal Kombat 11 yet? Well, as cool as Sub-Zero and Scorpion looked, they were silent henchmen and don’t have enough personality between them to really get the nostalgia treatment. Goro’s a moot point as his only appearance in Mortal Kombat 11 is his mummified corpse in the background of one of the stages, though Kevin Michael Richardson did recently reprise the role for Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion’s Revenge.

Robin Shou as Liu Kang and Talisa Soto as Kitana are possibilities, especially since they’re the only ones who came back for Mortal Kombat Annihilation, but I don’t think anyone would be all that excited about their skin pack.

Finally, there’s Trevor Goddard as Kano. Sadly, Goddard left us back in 2003. Goddard became so iconic as Kano that the games decided to give the character an Australian accent to tie into the movie version.

Who knows? Maybe one of these days they’ll put Art Lean in one of these games. You remember Art Lean, right? Guy who compliments Johnny early in the movie? Is sort of a friend to the heroes? Gets killed by Goro?
