Faster Horses Festival - Friday [Michigan International Speedway, Brooklyn, MI]
Faster Horses Festival – Friday [Michigan International Speedway, Brooklyn, MI]
July 22nd (Michigan International Speedway, Brooklyn, MI) – July in Michigan means several things when it comes to events for the summer but none of them compare with the excitement and the hype that builds for the annual Faster Horses country music festival. The festivals first year was back in 2013 and other than 2020, when Covid affected pretty much everything, the event has grown and been…

A Sport for Weather Fans
I think NASCAR is the ideal sport for people who are insane about the weather (me). I mean, think about it: What sport will so intimately acquaint you with the typical weather patterns of random locations all across the United States, and invite you to actively check forecasts and radars for places you aren’t, and have never been?
What sport has at least two fans who happen to be actual meteorologists, regularly supplying free weather data about 0.5-2.5-miles areas in the United States?
In what sport can you become intimately acquainted with the typical behaviors of storm cells, the functions of mountains and oceans on cells, the wind trajectories, and the differences between storms that will break and storms that will not? What sport will teach you SO MUCH ABOUT FLORIDA
What sport can make a joke out of “does X have lights?” and talk so much about the length of daylight at tracks that do not, or ask you to know the behaviors of rain interacting with the road, and the porosities of asphalt and concrete? What about the interactions of rain against new-paved or old surfaces, the likelihood of weepers, the team of Air Titans and other wind vehicles and the normative rates at which a road might dry?
What other sport, in addition to bringing haulers’ worth of racestuff clear across the country each week, also brings teams of wind vehicles, too, from Alabama to Michigan?

Michigan International Speedway, June 2019
And I didn’t even talk about on-track action, rain tires, rain-based race strategy, the 2023 introduction of rain tires at smaller ovals. I don’t enjoy rain delays, mind you, but they really bring the “insane about the weather” opportunities in life.
If you, too, are obsessed with weather radars, NASCAR is the sport for you!

NASCAR Arcade Rush Review (Xbox Series S)
Tumblr media
For this NASCAR Arcade Rush Review, we play a game that has the thrill of NASCAR meets the rush of arcade racing in a new game that puts us in the driver’s seat of a completely new NASCAR experience with re-imagined, iconic racetracks in unmatched high-speed, wheel-to-wheel action!
NASCAR Arcade Rush Review Pros:
- Decent graphics. - 5.5GB download size. - 1000 Gamerscore. - Racing gameplay. - Officially licensed game. - Performance mode - on/off. - Tutorial text pops up on your first solo race. - Customizable vehicle and driver. - Three game modes - solo, split-screen, and online. - Help menu lists controls and mechanics. - Solo has three modes - cup series, quick race, and time attack. - Arcade presentation and controls. - Two difficulties - elite and rookie. - Emote shortcuts in the d-pad. - You have nitro, drive over yellow pads to get a bit back, or drive into the pits to refill it fully. - Full camera control so you can see behind and all around. - Speed boost strips. - Instant restart at the last checkpoint button. - Earn EXP and level up to get rewards. - Pre-race flyover. - Quick race lets you pick any track and race. - Podium sequence at the end of a race. - Cars are just cosmetic so you can drive any you like rather than the fastest. - The split-screen mode has two game types - cup series and quick race. - EXP is dished out upon your race position. - 13 cars to unlock. - Male/female avatar choices. - 14 driver helmets to unlock. - Car customisation options - wheel trail, emotes, number, number font style, spoiler, wheels, stickers, and car body. - 12 locations - Talladega Super Speedway, Watkins Glen International, Richmond Raceway, Phoenix Raceway, Martinsville Raceway, Michigan International Speedway, Kansas Speedway, Homestead Miami Speedway, Darlington Raceway, Daytona International Speedway, Chicago Street Race weekend, and Next Gen in California. - Nine cups to unlock, you get points from your final position in a race. - The rivals system is where you fight with someone by you or them bashing into you a lot, if you then beat them, you get bonus EXP. - Indicators show for opponents coming up behind you. NASCAR Arcade Rush Review Cons: - Initial unskippable intro video. - The intro video looks really low-resolution and blurry. - Not the best loading times. - The text is small but also kind of blurry in places. - Cannot rebind controls. - Only one camera view of your car. - The handling is so light and twitchy corners are a nightmare. - Hard to see the track ahead. - Cheap AI tactics. - Slow restart loading time. - The rewards are quite boring, it's a lot of emotes and helmets for a driver you only see at the end of a race. - For a game about speed, there are more elements that slow you down rather than speed you up. - The pit lane is just hitting a line to refill your nitro but you are on a limited speed during it. - Respawning is nearly always a case of being put at the back of the pack. - Touching a wall in any way nearly stops you dead, grass stops you dead, hitting other cars slows you right down. - All the cars are just cosmetic. - Every menu has like two or three too many clicks, backing out of a mode has you going back over every menu. - You cannot edit any race events like laps. - A lot of the time it's almost a pinball game that has you bounce off cars and walls continuously. - You get hardly any EXP in time trials. - No online leaderboards. - You can only pick 1 to 16 for your car number. - It's not as fun to play as you would like. - Each race location is just the one-track layout and not the alternatives. NASCAR DRIVER NOAH GREGSON SUSPENDED AFTER APPEARING TO POST "LIKE" TO INSENSITIVE GEORGE FLOYD MURDER!
The original report from PEOPLE By Brenton Blanchet
Tumblr media
NASCAR driver Noah Gragson is now "under indefinite suspension" shortly after it was reported that he liked an insensitive meme about George Floyd's 2020 murder.
On Saturday, Legacy Motor Club released a statement about the suspension, noting that Gragson's actions "do not represent the values of our team." Josh Berry instead drove the No. 42 car for this weekend's Cup Series race at Michigan International Speedway.
NASCAR released a statement reading - "NASCAR fully supports Legacy Motor Club’s decision to suspend Noah Gragson. Following his actions on social media, NASCAR has determined that Gragson has violated the Member Conduct section of the 2023 NASCAR Rule Book and has placed him under indefinite suspension."
As NBC Sports noted, Section 4.3.E in the Cup Rule Book states that NASCAR members "shall not make or cause to be made a public statement and/or communication that criticizes, ridicules, or otherwise disparages another person based upon that person’s race, color, creed, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, marital status, religion, age, or handicapping condition.”
The outlet also cited Section 4.4.D, which states that "statement and/or communication made public (including social media platforms) that demeans, criticizes, ridicules, or otherwise disparages another person based upon that person’s race, color, creed, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, marital status, religion, age, or handicapping condition" could result in a fine or indefinite suspension.
Gragson is in his first entire season in the Cup Series and is 33rd in the Cup Series standings, per ESPN.
In June 2020, a month after the death of Floyd sparked nationwide protests, Gragson's fellow driver Bubba Wallace wore a Black Lives Matter shirt during a pre-race ceremony in Atlanta. Wallace then called on NASCAR to eliminate Confederate battle flags from race tracks, and the organization responded by barring their use in "any official" capacity.

Story #5
So, one of Papa's favorite pastimes was to watch the Speed Channel. To anyone unfamiliar with the Speed Channel, it had shows about cars on it 24/7. But, Papa loved watching Nascar races most of all. Dale Earnhardt was his favorite car to root for.
This was also one of the only things that would stop him from coming to get me. If the Nascar race was on or about to be on, he'd tell me to wait until after it was over or come over tomorrow. He just couldn't miss it!
Oh boy, and when he got a DVR to record his races, that was the best thing ever. Then he didn't feel so bad about missing them because he could watch it later too.
He loved Nascar races so much that for his birthday one year, we got tickets to go see a Nascar race at the Michigan International Speedway. It was a bit of a drive, but we got in, got decent seats, and it was a blast!
My favorite part was watching Papa light up and cheer for his favorite racers as the race went on. When we got home, all he could say was, "That was such a gas, man. That was so cool!" It was a great day for everyone. Sadly enough, we never went to see another race in person, but you better bet we always watched them on TV.
