I discovered kpop through Netflix. Actually I discovered kdramas first, and then kpop followed naturally.

I’ve been to KCON twice.  Missed out on last year because I went to Washington DC instead.

I had a Hi-Touch with GOT7 (minus Jackson) where I got to give them a high five or shake their hands.  I also had a Hi-Touch for Monsta X, but I traded it for a Block B audience pass.  This was before I was a Monbebe, obviously (still bitter about that).

I can read Korean, for the most part. Just don’t ask me to translate it.  

I watch WWE wrestling. That’s the only sport I watch tbh. Yeah it’s fake. So are movies and tv shows, yet people still watch it.

I have John Cena’s actual hat that he threw into the audience.  

I want to live in England one day, hopefully Cornwall or around that area.  Somewhere that I’m glad to be in England, yet have some resemblance of home, so that’s why I chose a beach town area.

I’ve been an Anglophile for as long as I can remember. I collect British things, use British slang, watch their movies, listen to their music, etc.

I want to travel to the United Kingdom, Ireland, Norway, Switzerland, China, Taiwan, South Korea, New Zealand, Australia, etc. My bucket list includes walking on Tower Bridge in London and visiting a fishing village in Moskenesøya, and seeing The Great Wall of China.

I’m only fluent in English, but I can count to ten in 7 languages. I can also pick up on words/phrases after hearing it a couple times.

I don’t eat certain foods. Not because I’m allergic, but because I do not like them.  For instance, ketchup.  I despise it and when my friends and family know I don’t like it, and yet insist on putting ketchup covered food in my face, I get mad.  I also don’t like any kind of tea (even though I want to live in England and I’m part Chinese, go figure) and seafood (I’m particular. I’m okay with Filet-O-Fish and honey walnut shrimp, but that’s about it)

Biografía

Predebut:

Convertirte en idol porque estás aburrido es algo… no tan común. Lo normal sería hacerlo por amor a la música o porque es un sueño de infancia. En el caso de Minwoo, él solo quería hacer algo emocionante.  

Todo comenzó cuando tenía doce y de pie en la sala de su casa, dibujándole cuernos y bigotes a su madrastra en la nueva foto familiar tamaño armario que acababan de colgar justo esa mañana, tuvo una revelación: Tenía que volverse famoso. ¡Tenía que ser un idol! ¿La razón? No había una en especial. En ese momento quizás era porque no quería hacer su tarea y había escuchado que los idols no tenían la necesidad de seguir estudiando. Además, desde que sus dos hermanos mayores vivían peleando por quién iba a heredar la empresa de su padre (todos sabían que iba a ser la vieja bruja la que heredara todo al final), todo su interés de dedicarse al negocio familiar había muerto sin haber nacido siquiera.

Como siempre, como todo, nadie lo detuvo cuando anunció esa misma noche que iba a convertirse en trainee y que iba a debutar (lo gritó con todo su pecho) en el mejor grupo idol y que, además, no quería nada de la cochina herencia. Afortunadamente para él, nadie le prestó atención (sobre todo en la última parte) tan acostumbrados a ignorar los arrebatos del malcriado hijo menor del CEO de una de las principales líneas hoteleras de Corea del Sur.

¿Quién iba a decir que ser aceptado como trainee era tan fácil, pero tan complicado mantenerte a flote cuando no tenías ningún talento aparente? Black Entertainment lo recibió con las puertas abiertas (y después de una carta firmada por su papá) diciendo que lo iban a convertir en una estrella. Pobre e inocente Minwoo que pensaba que no tenía que trabajar duro para lograr sus objetivos. Tenía un cuerpo flexible y buena voz, con entrenamiento (bastante) podía ser algo decente. Fueron cinco años de duro (bueno, ni tanto) entrenamiento hasta que finalmente lo metieron a un grupo debut.

W.INE, que parecía ser la solución a sus problemas, no hizo más que comenzar todos y cada uno de ellos.

Debut:

Minwoo es un claro ejemplo de como la industria puede torcer a las personas hasta quedar irreconocibles. Tenía 18 y  pensaba que tenía el mundo a sus pies. No estaba muy equivocado. El éxito fue tan repentino y tan intenso, que pronto se acostumbró. Se embriagó de la fama y el poder que su posición le confería. Se creía intocable y de cierta manera lo era, mientras el grupo siguiera cosechando éxitos. Su complejo de superioridad se respaldaba con las miles de fanáticas que coreaban su nombre o como su imagen se volvió promotora de los hoteles de su familia.

En algún punto de verdad quiso esforzarse. En algún momento de verdad disfrutó el escenario, pero las cosas buenas duran poco y cuando perdieron a dos de sus miembros, Minwoo pensó que su salida era merecida. ¿A quién le importaba que los estuvieran manejando todo el tiempo, que ni sus voces ni sus sonrisas no fueran reales, que los movieran como piezas de ajedrez si con eso lograban un jaque mate? El grupo comenzó a caer en picada.

Aun cuando no se lleva mal con sus compañeros, Minwoo es conflictivo y le gustan las cosas a su manera (además le gusta tener la atención), así que puede resultar muy dramático algunas veces.

Ve a los nuevos artistas como una amenaza. Si antes no podía soportar a [++], porque resultaban la competencia directa de W.INE, ahora con los artistas de Nébula en la agencia las cosas son peores.

Curiosidades:

Se graduó el año pasado de la Global Cyber University.

Últimamente se le ha visto interesado en la fotografía.

Tiene un montón de tatuajes en el cuerpo (la cuenta va en más de diez) y se dice que planea hacerse más.

Hace años que se corre el rumor de que va a comprar Black Ent. y darles, por fin, el merecido comeback a W.INE

Fue MC de Inkigayo un año completo (2015).

En una entrevista dijo que le gustaría trabajar como solista.

Cuando está borracho es dado al contacto físico excesivo. Como se ha visto en varios Vlives realizados por el grupo.

Se ganó el apodo de “Ophelia” cuando tuvo de vestirse de mujer como castigo en un programa de variedades al perder el piedra, papel o tijera.

Escándalos

PUBLICOS: Ha tenido dos relaciones públicas a lo largo de su carrera. Una con una modelo y otra con una idol que fue su compañera cuando estaban siendo MCs de Inkigayo. Ambas fueron cortas (la primera duró cinco meses y la segunda solo tres) y bastante polémicas en su momento (las fans no lo tomaron bien). La empresa y él mismo pudieron disculpas públicas luego de que Dispatch las sacara a la luz con menos de un año de distancia la una de la otra, así como anunciaron de manera oficial cuando se terminaron.

Por supuesto, Minwoo ha tenido más relaciones en privado. Pero también es bien sabido dentro de la empresa que es peligroso cuando te acercas demasiado a él. Se decía que salía con una de las nuevas coreógrafas de W.INE y que la habían chantajeado para darle el centro. Y, curiosamente, en el siguiente comeback la persona que ocupaba el prodigioso y anhelado lugar central durante más tiempo era él. Se dijo algo similar sobre el jefe de publicidad cuando fueron los carteles de Minwoo los que más se imprimieron.

Su más reciente escándalo es un vídeo filtrado de una fiesta donde se ve demasiado cariñoso con un idol de otra compañía en un claro estado etílico. No se han hecho comentarios oficiales al respecto, a pesar de que las fans no dejan de especular en redes sociales.

What is your favorite band or singer outside of kpop?  Probably BUSTED. Their music brings back a lot of good memories for me.
