23 Fic Recs 2023!

This year has definitely been a year. I've devoured so many wonderful fics by so many amazing authors. Thank you @hprecfest for the super fun rec categories and for some fic inspiration! Here are 23 fics that I read and loved in 2023 (although some are quite a few years older) ordered by ship.

1. A post-canon fic

The Discreet Gentleman's Connection by pluto (gayrights420) [Drarry, E, 80.4k] 🌼🔥 I had the absolute pleasure of beta-ing for this fic, so when I say it is amazing, it truly is just that. Fast burn on the smut via Floo sex, slow burn on the in-person falling in love. Satisfying in all the best possible ways.

2. A fic that made me laugh

AITA for being "obsessed" with my childhood nemesis? by @rainstormradish [Drarry, M, 4.3k] 🌼📲 Draco on a reddit forum is hilarious just on its own, but the banter and formatting really bring this fic to life. Amazingly creative, had me in stitches!

3. A comfort fic

The Eighth Tale by @letteredlettered [Drarry, E, 12.0k] 💔⏳ An oldie but a goodie. I constantly find myself coming back to this fic and having my mind blown every single time. Time travel timey-wimey angst.

4. A fic with art

Dating Draco - A Visual Game by @itsphantasmagoria [Drarry, M, Video Game] 🌼🎮 This is a fic in video game form!! Amazing art and lovely story where YOU get to make the choices for Drarry's happily ever after.

5. A favorite series

The Journal of Dreadful Things by @lilbeanz [Drarry, G, 112k, WIP] 🌼📖 Hilarious, witty, AND COMES WITH ART!! Lilbeanz draws and writes a wonderfully delightful series starting from Draco's First Year. His characterization had me in hysterics. Book 4 is starting soon!

6. Fic with the hottest smut

Moonstruck by @prettyremus [Wolfstar, E, 3.8k] 🔥🐺 Found this gem while scrolling through the werewolf smut tag (don't judge me). I love the switch in dynamic with Sirius taming Remus's wolf through, ahem, rough sex.

7. An unreliable narrator fic

Sea of White by @dividawrites [Harrymort, E, 8.6k] 🔥🤍 Deliciously hot, creepy, and strangely sweet. Love their dynamic here, the unrestrained lust. Harrymort "die" and lose their memories, so, of course, then they bang.

8. A fic that made me cry

Far Apart, Far Away by @unmistakablyoatmeal [Hinny, minor Drarry, T, 1.6k] 💔💍 Infidelity angst has never been this good. I love the layers of emotion in this fic. Quick punchy sections that really pulled me in.

9. A Muggle(?) AU fic

Pleasant Hope by @ac1d6urn, @sinick [Snarry, E, 41.6k] 💔⛪️ Pastor Severus!! The angst, pining, and self-discovery in this fic is superb! I love the interwoven magic and detailed world-building of this little town.

The Last Trial of Peter Pettigrew by @sleepstxtic [Prongstail, M, 20.8k] 💔 🐀 Holy moly, this fic!!!! Is this my new favorite fic?? Possibly. The concept is brilliant, so creative and nuanced. The Peter character study using outsider perspectives is genius. Seamlessly balances canon and new scenes.

11. A pre-canon fic

Careless by @tax-onomic [Luther, E, 1.5k] 🔥🪞 Lucius/Arthur my beloved rare pair!! I am captain of the Luther ship, and Tax's fic hits all the right spots. The pining, the sniping, the prickly personalities with emotional vulnerability underneath! And all in the middle of a hot smut scene. Perfect.

12. A canon-compliant fic

Scottish by thepadfoots [Chedric, G, 749] 💔🌟 Lovely Cho character study focused around her Asian identity and the boy she loved.

13. A fic rated G (more like T though)

Lion-Hearted Girl by MinnieQuill (odainath) [Minmione, G, 4.5k] 💔🦁 I know the large age gap might scare some, but their relationship feels very organic in this fic. The setting is grim, but there is always hope in the darkness!

14. A fic rated T

You're So Vane by @patriceavril [Romelina, T, 6.8k] 🌼💄Romilda is so delightfully characterized, I was smiling through the entire fic. Angelina is the perfect foil (and love interest) to Romilda's attentions.

15. A rare pair fic (less than 2000 fics on AO3)

Snakeskin by @cntrl15 [Bellastoria, E, 3.7k] 🔥👠 Talk about a rare pair! Astoria/Bellatrix only has 2 tagged fics on AO3: this fic and the drabble I wrote based on it. But read this fic, and you'll see why I felt the need to write more in this universe.

16. A fest fic

Master of None by @nanneramma [Snormac, G, 5.5k] 🌼🧘 Severus is so wonderfully cranky, and Cormac is fine AF. The surprise pairing of 2023 that I never knew I needed and now I'm obsessed with!

17. An under-rated fic

Sun, Shadow, Shade by @naomijameston [Snuna, G, 700] 🌼☀️ Post-war fluff. Sunshine Luna is the perfect match for sullen Snape. A short and sweet fic for this underrated ship.

18. A canon-divergent fic

but somebody's gotta do it by nocturn [Pangulus, T, 920] 😄🧟‍♂️ This fic will make you say WTF but also huh, okay that totally works. The concept is WILD but Lyra executes it wonderfully. Pansy drags Regulus out of the inferi lake and they flirt a little while he gets de-corpsified lol.

19. A dark fic

In his embrace by @loneamaryllis [Snarrymort, het!Snarry, E, 48k] ⚡️👀 Dark and dirty but so so good. A Voldemort Wins AU where fem!Harry is taken as prisoner. Snape's mindset as he tries to save her (and is forced to rape her) is so twisted and mesmerizing. Mind the tags!

20. A thought-provoking fic

Icarus by @thistlecatfics [Millvansy, M, 20.0k] 💔🍾 War trauma, addiction, codependency! This fic is messy with emotions but has a strong, beating heart underneath. I am in love with Parvati as she deals with Pansy's addiction and Millicent's denial — three beautiful, imperfect girls.

21. A holiday fic

A Time, Dark and Divine by @moonflower-rose [Dronarry, E, 17.0k] 🔥⛱ HOLY FREAKING FUCK!! The sexual tension in this fic is off the freaking charts. Drarry seducing Ron while on vacation in Portugal. Sign me the fuck up!

The Scrunchie by @saintsenara [Lightning Era Girls, G, 4.5k] 💖👭 Such a lovely look into some of the female background characters, all following the path of a single scrunchie. Lisa, Padma, Parvati, Hannah, Sally-Anne.

23. A fic with an ending I can't stop thinking about

Through the Middlegame by @sandervansunshine [Astoria & Peter, T, 6.6k] 💔♜ Devastating, heart-wrenching, tragic. 10000% would recommend. Kylee has already heard me screaming in the servers about this fic. If I could get a fic tattooed straight onto my brain, this would be it.

Rec because - Hermione falls in love with Minerva. This isn't an easy fic. Brilliant and incisive, it cuts to the core of Hermione's characterization. It starts with an obituary column Hermione is reading. Then the fic goes into a flashback through time, from Hermione's Hogwarts letter and her years at Hogwarts. Each flashback shows us an interaction or an observation by Hermione of her teacher. The progression is written in a realistic and sharp portrayal of Hermione. Really beautiful pining and unrequited. This fic is realistic. There is no happy ending with everything working out. Things are complex and unresolved but they make their peace with it. One of my all time favs <3

whatever your favourite Hermione ship is

Hello there! Ooh this is a fun one. I love lots of Hermione ships! Minmione, Ginmione, Cissamione...but my favorite is probably Fleurmione!

1.) What made you ship it?

I don't remember exactly. I wrote them as a background ship (in a Snarry, of course) like a decade ago. I'm fairly sure it was a case of "I love these 2 characters, lemme smoosh their faces together and make them kiss." And when, years later, I wanted to explore more femslash fics, Fleurmione was one of the first places I looked!

2.) What are your favorite things about the ship?

Competent 👏 strong 👏 intelligent 👏 women.

They're both hella skilled and brave. Fleur competed in the Tournament, and joined the Order. Hermione joined Harry on his adventures and fought in the war. They both have a drive for excellence, and a dedication to what is right.

I love the tension, too, and the ways they may judge and underestimate each other. Fleur, the vapid and vain Veela. Hermione the bossy, loud know-it-all. How Fleur might be accused of being nothing more than a pretty face, and Hermione accused of being little more than her book smarts. But there is more to them.

Fleur is confident, fierce, feisty, and opinionated. Hermione is eager, bold, ethical, and independent. Both are willing to stand up for themselves and what is right, even if others disagree and dislike them and their stances. They are also incredibly loyal. Fleur cared so deeply for her sister, and opened her home to those who needed it. Hermione maintained her friendship with both Ron and Harry when they didn't speak, and stuck by Harry's side during the Horcrux hunt.

There is so much about them that puts them on each other's level. They can challenge each other, debate each other, and grow with each other. They don't have to back down from each other, and neither can run the other over. They hold their own together. They can respect and admire one another. Fleur would be a strong, self-sufficient partner for a workaholic Hermione. She takes what time Hermione can give, and puts her foot down when Hermione goes too far; "spend time with yourself, do self-care!" and also "it's been too long, my love, let's have dinner." She won't be silent and suffering, she would hold her head high and take care of herself and her wife. Also imagine Hermione running for Minister, and Fleur helping her write her speeches and charming the pants off of benefactors and opponents alike!

They're both a bit judgmental and sure of their own correctness, and here they'll clash, but I think they're both smart enough and dedicated enough to work through those disagreements and come to see eye to eye, or at least agree to disagree. They share enough of their values, I think, for it to never cross a dangerous line.

3.) Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship?

Nah, pretty sure "badass women being hot together" is a safe opinion to have 😄

💞 A Lifetime of Love [Ronerva, G, Comic] by @potter-art 💞 Also not soulmates, but I just want to stare at this comic all day. A sequence of panels going through the life of Rolanda and Minerva. Absolutely superb.

A lifetime of shared experiences. A lifetime of shared moments of quiet and peace, joy and love, grief and loss. A lifetime with a partner who’s always at your side, and a moment of just one more way to show that love to the world.

💞 we built this fucker stone by stone [Minmione, G, 13.3k] by elainebarrish 💞 This story is a lovely mix of growing up, war angst, and finding your soulmate along the way. Minerva is just the right amount of stern and sarcastic.

Getting to know Minerva McGonagall takes a lot of patience, even with her shade of green dark on your shoulder, even though you're sure that the matching green stains her fingertips and the palm of her hand... You wait, and you wait, and eventually, eventually, she comes around.

💞 Luck of the Draw [Petcissa, T, 10.1k] by @madetofly 💞 A fascinating take on soulmates. Petunia as a Muggle in the magical world and bonded to Narcissa is wonderfully done in this story.

After Severus Snape revealed that Lily was a witch, Petunia wasn't surprised... What she wasn't expecting was to get an invitation to Hogwarts herself. No, she's not a witch like her sister. She's something else: a soulmate. She doesn't understand exactly what that means until she gets there.

💞 Falling and Flying [Kalicia, G, 2.5k] by JoRaskoph 💞 I adore this soulmates AU. The ending is a twist, and yet not a twist at all. I love the idea that you can hear your soulmate's thoughts!

Alicia Spinnet has a lot to deal with, even before she develops a crush on Katie Bell, who most definitely isn't her soulmate.

💞 you are my symphony [Susanne, T, 2.7k] by Someone_aka_Me 💞 The imagery and concise prose makes this story a breeze to read!

Susan has a symphony growing on her ribs every time she talks to Daphne, but there's also a war to deal with.

💞 And If I Had To Choose [Pansmione, M, 3.7k] by flipflop_diva 💞 Enemies to friends to lovers with forced proximity and bits of humor sprinkled in. A great build in only 3k words.

In a world where soulmates are discovered via a type of internal explosion, Hermione is bound and determined to have nothing to do with hers for as long as she possibly can.

💞 cor aut mors [Linny, T, 3.0k] by @darkmagicalgirlwrites 💞 This story gutted me while also making me smile. It weaves through canon events so smoothly and with so much emotion.

Ginny was born without a bondmark.

💞 Time is whit A’ hauld between [McClaw, E, 74.4k, Traditional, Digital] by @aibidil, @artymakeart, @canttouchthis87 💞 Time-travel, soulmates, Minerva McGonagall in Founders Era!!! AHHHHH, this fic is a ride, and I love it so much.

Minerva learns she must travel to the year 1008 to save Hogwarts's magic. And incidentally, the soulmark on her arm indicates she met her soulmate 991 years ago. Och!

Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?

Yes! Unless you're an absolute arsehole, and even then, I would rather reply (but only if I can come up with an appropriate retort). Why? Because I love the interaction. Getting a comment, no matter how small, will always make my day. So, it feels right to at least say thanks. Also, I met one of my now good friends through us chatting in our fics' comments. So who knows what might come of it.

What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

Hmm, probably One Last Cup.

What is the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

I've not written the ending yet, but it's going to be How Did We Get Here? If only because I have become waaayyy too attached to all of the characters to give them anything but.

Do you get hate on fics?

It's not quite hate, and I know it could be worse, but How Did we get here? garners some pretty strong reactions. They're a downer.

Do you write smut? If so what kind?

I've only published very mild smut, but I have written more explicit stuff since, and some of it is in the next chapter I'm publishing, and I'm scared.

Do you write crossovers?

No, I struggle enough with one fandom. Huge respect to the people who manage it

Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Not that I'm aware of.

Have you ever had a fic translated?

Nah. They're not good enough for that.

Have you ever co-written a fic?

Yes! Three actually. Idle in Kangaroo Court W1, for the mixed up writer fest. We ran out of steam, so it's unfinished, but I keep promising myself I'm going to finish it one day. Then two more with some friends, one short one for the rare pairs fest, that will be revealed soonish. Then one long fic that 3 of us a writing, which is err... in progress.

What's your all time favourite ship?

Call me a basic bitch, but I will always be such a sucker for Dramione.

What's a WIP you want to finish but don't think you ever will?

I have a really unhealthy stubborn streak that won't let me leave things unfinished, so hopefully none. Though Idle in Kangaroo Court is most at risk, because its been so long (and I feel I have to reach out to my co-author to check they don't mind, and my social anxiety is one of the few things that trumps my stubbornness).

What are your writing strengths?

Dialogue. I keep thinking I should try writing something as a script.

What are your writing weaknesses?

Descriptions and flowery language. I have to work hard at imagining visuals, so a lot of the time I don't. And I'm too literal to do well with metaphors.

Thoughts in writing dialogue in another language?

I've never really had any before. I guess I don't mind it in small amounts, if the meaning can be inferred from context or reactions. It's annoying if you miss something by not understanding what it means.

Harry Potter

Favourite fic you've written?

Oh god, that's like asking me to chose between my children! Live Like Common People will always have a special place in my heart, as it was my first and the characters will forever live rent free in my head.

But also, I'm most proud of Tattletail, because I think it is technically my best piece of writing.

6.) What's a femslash ship you feel like you're the only shipper of?

I'm so glad you asked this one, this is the one I most wanted to be asked!

Ginny Weasley/Gwenog Jones. I need more of it. Two lady athletes?? Yes please. Also after reading a Sneguochka fic, I headcanon Gwen as Slytherin. So you get a nice Gryffindor/Slytherin couple if you follow that. Plus a shared love of flying! You can give 'em a fun ole age gap. And like!! Teammates to lovers?? Or RIVALS TO LOVERS. Imagine if they were Quidditch rivals! Or even rival teammates to lovers?? Or or! Maybe after retirement it could be coach/player???? So many options and all are great.

Also with Gwenog being a big Quidditch star I think it would be super fun if Ginny's most well known relationships were with Harry (Boy Who Lived) and Gwenog (Quidditch Queen.) And her swearing up and down she's not a fame whore even if it looks that way LOL.

Anyway, please for the love of all that is holy and unholy, more Ginny and Gwenog please and thank you.

12.) What's your absolute favourite femslash ship(s)? The all-timers.

Omg so. Ginny/Luna (Linny) is a classic. Probably the softest ship I will ever sail, y'know? But also: Fleurmione. Fleurmione is 10/10. Two fierce, competent, bold, loyal ladies!!!! Also: throwing Pansy at them is fun, too. Ginsy, Pansmione, even Lunsy! But I think my top of the top have to be Linny and Fleurmione due to my love of them and also the fact that I've read several great fics. So it's like I love them in theory and in practice.

13.) Your guilty pleasure femslash ship?

I'm gonna kinda skew this question a bit from what I think its spirit is. Idk that I have anything that could properly be called a guilty pleasure.

I will say ships I love in theory and have enjoyed in practice, but feel like I need to see more of would be Cissamione and Minmione!! SWEET, LOVELY AGE GAPS YES PLEASE AND THANK YOU. I genuinely need a good Hermione/Minerva romance and I don't want to write it myself haha. I feel like there's so much potential yet to explore in both cases and I have such a THIRST for it.

Others I love in theory but haven't seen much of, if at all, in practice:

Ginny/Gwenog (as stated in # 6)...I at least wrote one myself, so I'll give myself a pat on the back for that one.

Ginny/Rolanda. Hello excuse me. Age gap. Athletic ladies. But also: TEACHER/STUDENT. GIMME GIMME GIMME. Someone please have mercy on me and feed me the Ginny/Hooch goodness.

Hermione/Ginny. I know it's out there but I've not read much that has really satisfied what I'm looking for with them. A few, don't get me wrong. But I need all the good angst and inner turmoil! I wanna see their fierceness clash. And the difficulty of not only moving from friends to lovers, but moving from friends to lovers when one person used to date the other's brother. Gimme the drama and the mess, I need it.

Hermione/Lavender. This is a new one for me and I'm obsessed. The idea of them both being exes of Ron. Having been jealous of each other. And being so different on the surface and coming to appreciate those differences!!!! So much potential and one I might explore myself one day.

16.) Are you there any characters that headcanon as being lesbian or otherwise wlw without having a ship in mind for them?

Hahaha. Everyone in HP is gay. No, I am not taking questions or critique at this time.

Let's do a little rundown:

Ginny: full-fledged lesbian, but I will accept bisexual. But mostly I just think Ginny and Harry taught each other that they are hella gay.

Hermione: tend to see as more asexual or demisexual, and maybe biromantic leaning more homoromantic I think? I see her being a very sexual (even kinky) person but she has to have that connection first.

Luna: asexual, panromantic, polyamorous.

Tonks: hella queer in every single way.

Fleur: another pan queen.

Pansy: she's tried everything on for size and doesn't quite have it figured out but she's definitely for the ladies, if you know what I mean.

Minerva: lesbian as heck

Narcissa: bi baby

Lily: ...also bi.

they're all some flavor of queer idc come at me.

Hello there!

♡ - romantic headcanon

Hermione is for the ladies, okay? And Viktor, but Viktor is special.

She needs a partner who is very different from her, in ways. Generally not for people as academically inclined as her. She loves a good stimulating debate, but it doesn't move her in that way. She needs someone who can challenge her, and show her new things. A different perspective. A different sort of intelligence (though I think it takes her a while to recognize it as a valid intelligence outside of her own; her focus is very narrow and she has a bit of an ego, so it takes time to fully wrap her head around some things.)

Hermione is a woman who loves to learn, to have her mind tested and strengthened. She needs to be curious, and fascinated. She also has to be irritated. No raging, fighting passions, but prods of irritation that keep her on edge, but don't push her over the edge. She needs someone who can stand by her side when she needs, and who can stand up to her when she needs (but privately, of course.) Someone who is a partner, who can pick up her slack, with different strengths and weaknesses than her own.

And in love, she is settled and content. She gets her needs met, and tries to meet her partner's. She fails in areas. She struggles with a work-life balance, and gets caught up in her studies and projects. Her partner needs to not be afraid to pull her head out of her books (or her own backside) and demand her attention. She might huff a bit, but eventually (sheepishly) acknowledges her faults. She tries to do better. She jots date nights into her planner, and "spontaneous" surprises/gifts/plans/etc.

Her ambitions will always be a point of contention. She needs a partner who respects them, but they need to care about her enough to not be ambivalent to them. They have to want her enough to want to spend time with her, and make memories with her. It's a balancing act that will always create problems, and will always need reevaluating and readjusting after a time.

But it isn't always her time that's stolen, but energy. Hermione pushes herself too hard, but if she's lucky enough in love she gets someone who pushes her into self-care. Who fights her and makes her take vacation days. Someone who sees her value as more than her accomplishments, and reminds her that, while her ambition is valid and respected, she is more than that. And she is loved.

Hermione is her own worst enemy in ways. Plagued by perfectionism, a sense of duty, moral obligations, insecurities, stress, her inability to take care of herself; she needs a true teammate, not another battle. She needs a safe haven. Someone to go home to. Or someone who is the home that follows her wherever she leads.

(OTP: Fleurmione but I also dig Ginmione, okay? Also: Minmione is super valid. And Cissamione, too.)

AHHH YES HELLO ANON THANK YOU FOR ASKING.

I love Minmione. Not enough of it exists!! I'm afraid this one is still firmly in the planning stages. I just really need to make Hermione/Minerva happen. Like...am I going for smut? A cute domestic scene? Wooing and romance?? Unclear atm. I do have this very sweet mental image of domestic Minmione and Minerva in cat form all cuddled in Hermione's lap while Hermione reads aloud to her. 🥹 That would be nice to sneak in.

A longer story could be done of the getting together, I think. Especially the younger Hermione is, the more work it will take. Middle aged Hermione Minerva could get past a lot easier than like early/mid-twenties Hermione, but...what fun is easy? 👀 Then like...does Hermione go back to teach at Hogwarts?? Maybe she had a bit of failure in the "real world" and returns to Hogwarts to lick her wounds? Among other things.

So much potential and if anyone wants to brainstorm Minmione with me please lmk!

She didn't need magic affirmation.  She needed only to trust Minerva. . .and herself.

Why I read and reread it! - Because this fic gives an awesome Poppy! She's like this brilliant mix of confident and insecure. Her character growth over the fic is A+! Also I love the descriptions of the student medical problems. Incredibly sweet and emotional fic. It hit me hard when I first read it during the lockdowns <3

It's definitely not my favorite from the author. But it's a fic I needed in 2021! Hope + love + things ending well!

Poor old Snape was forced to tip his head back to continue gazing deep into Albie's eyes. Romantic, what? Personally I was dashed relieved I wasn't in Snape's shoes. When Albie continued to stand there like an iridescent lamppost that has nothing better to do than loom everywhere and cast chalk-striped light, Snape whispered, "You."

Why I read and reread it! - Also one of the lockdown reads! It introduced me to Jeeves and Wooster which was like the highlight of the lockdown time. I fell in love with the TV series. Also the books! Whoa! It's one of those reading styles I thought I was going to forever hate. But this fic! <3 Beautiful fic with tons of emotion. It's the full 360 of emotion! It is a crossover fic. But don't let that stop you! You are going to come out of this fic shipping a new ship :D

It's definitely not my favorite from the author. But it's the fic I needed in 2021! Humor + love + things ending well!

Why I read and reread it! - The lockdown fic. Honestly there are fics and then there's this fic. Looks totally ridiculous on the surface. But delivers incredibly like nothing I read before. Like MyWitch explained on this art Pandemic is a love story for the ages. Brilliant emotional connect. Beautiful, beautiful, absolutely stunning intergenerational fic covering over a century of time.

It's definitely not my favorite from the author. But it's the fic I needed in 2021! Loneliness + love + things ending well!

 A bit nasty, that. Thieving, really. But it’s only from Muggles, you suppose, likely more than a few who’d thieve what they could from a lad half their size who didn’t know his way around. Ones who’d leave worse than a few marks on his hips.And it’s a little flattering, isn’t it. Him here with you. Liking the look of you. Confiding a thing like that.

Why I read and reread it! - This has everything that we see in the best fics on reddit /r/nosleep. Black mirror episode! This is one of the rare fics I read this year without a happy ending. No regrets!

Why I read and reread it! -  Wholesome summer Snarry fic. Classic Acid style! This was feel good and just what I needed! If you need a refreshing and gentle read this is the fic for you! Absolute mood booster! Technically a crossover. But you definitely can read it without knowing about Stardew Valley!

Why I read and reread it! - Not so wholesome Snape fic. My personal favorite is Hollow Moon because Sirius and his Issues. Beautiful prose, totally weird and totally brilliant.

You can't really explain it, not even to yourself.  There's just something about George that draws you.  Maybe it's his occasional moments of tentativeness, of vulnerability.  He seems so lost without Fred, like a blind thing groping.  He reminds you of yourself as you were for so many years after being bitten.

Why I read and reread it! - Postwar hurt/comfort with a BIG dose of realism. But happy/hopeful ending! I really needed something like this to feel the summer mood!

It weighs on you like your childhood church, like your father’s hand gripping around your own, squeezing your knuckles together until they ache, dragging you into that dusty room, the hundreds of beating hearts and breathing lungs, all giving thanks to the Lord above. Why I read and reread it!- Unhealthy Snarry is the best Snarry. It can't get unhealthier and better than this! Probably the angstiest fic I read this year. No regrets! Also really really love the POV here! Intense read!

Three freckles has Snape, along the hook of his nose, and they are spread out to form a wonky C. Three half-rings of teeth cut across his breast, and he wears them comely in dawn's light. Three snores he hums light, before he roars a belly-deep thunderous snore, again and again, and the cadence lulls Harry half-asleep.

Why I read and reread it! - Whoa! Absolute get wrecked intense fic. As in the reader is going to get wrecked. Dark, beautiful and totally unhealthy on like all the levels.  But The Tumtum Tree as the Snarry epilogue is really wholesome. Also the most beautiful prose I read anywhere! Strange but beautiful.

Letters arrive. All are burned, in the hearth lit once more. All are burned, but for the boy's. The boy's letters are unread, carefully bundled in twine, and placed on the mantel. He wonders how the boy must have begun the letter. Had the boy written his name? He cannot bring himself to find out.

In the healing house, a healing man speaks his own name. The house creaks as a purring cat, the man breathes easier, and the wound of a name scabs over.

Why I read and reread it! - Probably unhealthy. But definitely sweet. POETIC. This is what fluff looks like when eldritcher writes it. Don't skip the Giant Squid fic. It's legit brilliant.

Why I read and reread it! - because classic Snarry with angry Harry <3 It's got a brilliant Harry characterization in a postwar setting. Actually the Harry characterization had some beautiful throwback vibes to When the Rose and the Fire Are One! I really loved that. Also really loved their relationship dynamics. This fic has a perfect Snarry happy ending! The entire Secret Snarry Swap 2021 collection is awesome!
