Snarry, 27700 words, epistolary fic

Snarry doesn't really get a lot of epistolary fic. So when I saw this one I was super excited. Love it. Really creative fic with a lot of scope/worldbuilding without a lot of words.

Magic and Botany: The Bamboo Forest of Li Xian (book excerpt) A bamboo forest is unusual compared to other forests in that its growth happens beneath the surface. The Bamboo Forest of Li Xian, in fact, could be considered one organism. There is a single root system for the entire forest. Two shoots of bamboo, seemingly distant, can be connected in ways that are not easily seen.

Have recced before. Will rec again. Because everybody needs to read it for the soft tender vibes. Not really soft. But compared to the intense angsty fic this is a coda for, I feel like it's optimistic and soft and I just feel so happy for my OTP.

"Can a man not toss off in the privacy of his own room without being accused of sabotaging his bloody health? If you can't trust that I have a vested interest in my own recovery - "

Snape spotted Harry, and a flush raced from his collar up to his hairline, exquisitely pink beneath his unnaturally smooth skin. But although he swallowed his tirade, Snape didn't seem particularly put out by having practically shouted his masturbatory claims to the entire office.

Exactly what I want from my Snarry! Honestly Danpuff is bringing the oldschool vibes of Snarry back with a bang in their fics every single time and I am just super spoiled now. Snarry forever :D Also love to see Danpuff going into longer fics this year!

Though the worst crime of all is Potter’s. "Did you want to die?" Also The boy knows — he knows — he can take anything he wants. That bitter surrender is surrender all the same. That the force of Severus’ loathing is fed by his longing.

Fluff and crack! Really love the oldschool trope parody vibes of this fic. I actually haven't read something like this in a pretty long time. Going on my rereads! Also going on my holiday season reading list :D Also love to see Acid's insane prolific streak this year. I feel super spoiled as a reader! <3

Harry squinted against the rain and promptly attempted to expunge the phrase "Ventus Vultuosus, swish and flick when in a bind!" from his memory. Ugh. Curse you, Common Weather Weathering Spell #13! That'll be the last time I trust anything Witch Weekly puts out in fine print. (Except maybe that last fruitcake recipe.) Now that he thought about it, Auntie Annabelle's Advice Column on "Ten Ways of Bewitching and Beguiling Your Mr Right" didn't seem so reliable either, especially considering some of those later suggestions, and maybe even those in the middle too. Those were a bit wild.

Dumbledore saying "You disgust me" to people in his life but also meaning "I disgust myself". The more he sees himself in the other person, the more disgusted he gets. Intense, intense beautiful fic. But also healing because he finally overcomes that.

He disgusts you. Ratty, bony, skulking, pleading, raging, raving, frightened of the shadows and frightened of the fog, frightened of you. "You did not save Lily!" he yells. "You did not save James!" he weeps. "You did not save me!" he whimpers, and huddles into himself and trembles as if the North Sea is in his very veins.

Also the math works out!!! Snape/Dumbledore + Sirius/Dumbledore = Snack by proxy actually.

i love drarry and horror and this fic was masterful. it’s able to weave such a vividly eerie atmosphere with an incredible, ominous ending in only 3k words. skillfully concise and quick, it’s like a well placed gut punch in the best way possible.

i am a sucker for any fic involving de-aging/age difference between Harry and Draco, especially when it has a generous dose of pining. i absolutely loved younger draco in all his funny, sexy, teasing glory!

Progressive Displacement by GatewayGirl | E | 20k

this one was a reread, but one i’ll never get tired of. universe hopping is always so so fun, and all the different versions of harry and draco were amazing.

The Matchmaker’s Spell by @kbrick | E | 20k

messy drarry has such an exquisite flavour. their dynamic when it’s a little bit fucked up is just *chefs kiss* the energy of this fic is so wonderfully intense and i felt like i was buzzing the entire time i was reading it. and can we talk about that ending? brilliant!

The Day Before the Wedding by @kbrick | E | 39k

when i saw that kbrick dropped a new fic and that it was a timeloop fic, i pretty much dropped everything to read it. harry reliving the day before he gets married to ginny over and over is all at once spectacularly calamitous and cathartic. harry and draco both work for their growth in this one, and the timeloop aspect is done wonderfully, as per expected from kbrick!

this one was another reread and one that i’d consider one of my personal drarry classics, at least in the vampire genre. we have unhinged vampire harry who is bonded to draco to keep him on a leash, with a gloriously hot dynamic featuring a possessive and protective harry. i love how much these two cant help but want each other. a drarry vampire must-read.

i must admit that i went on a bit of a kbrick splurge this month but i couldn’t resist this one when i saw the demonic possession tag,, possessed harry has got to be one of the most creepy hot things i’ve read and i thoroughly enjoyed everything about it (as did draco 😳)

Rating: E Pairing: Draco/Harry (Drarry) Summary: Harry's assignment was simple. Close out Draco Malfoy's missing persons case so he can be declared dead.

But who's making withdrawals from Malfoy's vaults? How is a death omen-turned-Unspeakable involved? Is an organization known as the Moirai to blame?

Harry brushes it off until he can't. Until The Prophet is flooded with sightings of dead people. Until Robards throws himself on his sword. Until Ron turns on his own family. Until Harry scarcely trusts his own reflection in the mirror and trusts the stranger in his bed even less.

Until all that stands between war and peace is Harry, a name plate, a stadium of murderers, and Draco Malfoy.

Bottom Snape Recs. Oof. Where to start! Full disclosure that I don't personally read with this filter because my interest is Snape whump and don't really care about roles that much. But I have lots of recs for you!

Snarry

The big five Bottom Snape authors for a lot of Snarry readers these days

TiraNog - start with Whispers of Intent and see if it's your vibe

Meri - start with Courtship Rituals and see if that's your vibe.

@likelightinglass (filter to their bottom Snape works) start with Close Encounters and see if that's your vibe

@danpuff-ao3 (filter to their bottom Snape works) - start with Lover Boy at Play and see if that's your vibe.

EmilyWaters1976 - Also majority bottom Snape. Start with Mostly Harmless and see if it's your vibe!

Ok now let's get wild, weird, wonderful! <3 This is where a lot of my favorite fics are.

@perverse-idylll - If like me you like Snape Whump anything here If you want only 100% Bottom Snape, start with Warm and see if it's your vibe.

@ripeteeth - 100% Whump which works great for me. But for Bottom Snape, start with Suspiria and see if it's your vibe. Definitely read the warnings on this one.

Beyond Snarry!

I have some of my favorite authors in this category and some recs for you. Definitely check them out and don't let the pairings put you off.

Delphi

Pairings - mostly Snape Rare pairs. Snape/older male characters like Filch, Dumbledores, Kettleburn. So if age gaps in that direction isn't your thing definitely read the warnings first.

Bottom Snape recs to start - Fantastic Beasts

Bottom Snape recs when you are confident you vibe with the author's style - Remember Me to Cheetham Hill.

From there just go wild - filter for their Snape fics! Delphi doesn't tag bottom/top but their fics are bottom Snape. You really can't go wrong with this author. I am a big fan of their older fics with Snapledore pairing (Snape/Albus Dumbledore). But definitely start in the order I was suggesting to get used to the style. If you have more questions about the warnings on some of the fics definitely come back! But Delphi is really amazing about warnings and tags so 100% recommend reading those and making a call on a fic by fic basis.

Eldritcher

Pairings - Snarry and Snape/Aberforth. Also some Snape/Voldemort if you are like really adventurous.

Bottom Snape recs to start - The Tumtum Tree!

Bottom Snape recs when you are confident you vibe with the author's style - Frabjous Triad

From there just go wild - filter for their Snape fics on AO3. Eldritcher doesn't tag bottom/top but their fics are bottom Snape. If you liked those come back because the rest of their bottom Snape fic is on Dreamwidth and I can give links. I honestly haven't read a single fic from this author I didn't want to gush about. They are absolutely brilliant at technique and emotional connect. Also if you have questions about warnings come back. Because IIRC Eldritcher's tagging is probably still from the 2000s.

Other bigger fandom ships

Snupin fics generally write Snape as the bottom. So check that fandom if you like the vibe. Snegurochka - Start with Yes, Master. If you like the vibe, go for the rest! Cruise Director - Lots of Snupin! Check their fics out if that's your thing. Start with maybe Escapism. Lysanatt - The Diary of a Death Eater Whore.

There are some tropes I don’t personally read but which generally have more Bottom Snape - Time Travel, Mpreg, Omegaverse, kidfic in general, BDSM, Amnesia tropes, No magic/low magic AUs. So definitely check those tags on AO3 if you are starving <3
