A return train journey from Cardiff saw me travelling through the Severn Tunnel. Opened in 1886, this train tunnel is 4.3 miles long, below the Severn Estuary. It took us about 3mins 42 seconds to get through. I recorded directly onto my phone (mono) onto the Zoom Handy Recorder App, placing the phone on the small shelf table by the window. The top of the window was open. In the background you can hear other passengers coughing and the sound of a particularly annoying guy listening to something on his phone very loud without headphones. The quality of sound in the tunnel changes at 1:24 suggesting a larger space before becoming closer again at about 1:50. The recording opens just as we enter the tunnel and finishes a few seconds after we leave.

real ones know how much i can't stand the wall of sound and how much i generally hate mono mixes (the intersection of these being two reasons among three why i hate phil spector but i digress) but hearing the walker brothers on mono on the incredible hifi system while working at the record shop in the bar really does hit like no other

for the record as good as prankster is in hctcg i... don't think, at least in the public online version, it actually makes a good shell. i think it makes a pretty good deck on its own, right, probably one of if not the best deck. but the thing is to play prankster and something else almost always just means you're playing both a worse version of prankster - because your mumbo is going to be less consistent if you aren't guaranteed to always have another prankster hermit on the bench - and a worse version of the thing you're using it as a shell for, because prankster takes up SO MANY of your rare slots to run effectively (at the very least, 3x rare mumbo, 2x rare grian, 3x double obsidian) that you basically can't be running another strategy inside of it.

like, on the surface, "any rogue strategy can run 3x mumbo 2x grian 3x rare obsidian to get an engine of the best damage dealer in the game" LOOKS like it's a good shell, right, since it's simple and only takes, at that configuration, eight slots in your deck. the problem is that in the current online version that means eight rare slots, which is a much bigger ask. (also, i don't think rare mumbo is super great at numbers less than that since he relies heavily on having his setup; you COULD run him by himself but that makes his ability to actually deal damage slashed.)

and at the end of the day in deckbuilding there's nothing STOPPING YOU from playing a worse version of a thing because it's more fun to you, right. like, playing a mixed prankster deck with other stuff, even if i think it will normally be worse than playing it on its own, is probably a reasonable decision. it's just that having fun deckbuilding when so much of your deck is taken up by the prankster shell is hard, which is why it then starts to beg the question "why am i playing these, actually, if they're just a worse version of a better thing and this doesn't do anything more interesting."

like. idk. maybe it's a better shell than i see. and on the version of the game that's actually on hermitcraft? yeah, i think running the package i just listed of prankster cards is a worthwhile consideration in a lot of decks, but that's because there aren't deckbuilding restrictions on "number of rare cards" and therefore running that prankster package doesn't leave you with only five rare cards it leaves you with whatever other cards your heart desires, which is an entirely different proposition.

idk i'm just thinking about deckbuilding too hard again while continuing to bang my redstone deck against randoms,

(...also, run more than that many obsidian if you run that package i was just like, spitballing my theoretical 'minimum possible shell'.)

I was taking a walk at around 4pm when I passed a tree full of starlings, by the back of the cricket pitch. I didn't have any equipment with me other than my phone, so I opened the Handyrecorder app and tried to shield the in-built microphones from the wind - not very successfully as you can hear. I was right by the busy road, so cars are whooshing past. There are also some crickets in there too (The insects, not the game). I wish it had been a stereo recording, but there we are.

shout-out to anyone with a preventable disability. shout-out to the frustration and the pain and the grief and the rage. if your disability was caused by ignorance or negligence or malice or chance i see you. if someone else had made a difference choice or if you could have made different choices i see you. i see your pain. you are no less entitled to feel that grief even if you could have done something. you shouldn’t be in pain even if you caused it. i forgive you, i see you. if someone else caused your disability i see you. you’re entitled to rage and grief and confusion. to everyone who sees people ignoring the same advice that could have prevented your own suffering, i see you. i see your sorrow, your indignation, your desperation. It’s frustrating when people don’t take your advice because they can’t see the looming outcome. Even when you’re right there.
