Tumblr media
You may be asking yourself how Morgott got here, and the answer is, uh... there is no answer.
Morgott is convinced that Fate will never let him have a break and experience normalcy. If he isn't beset by the greed of his wayward family, it's the greed of those damned Tarnished and their ineffective weapons. And if it isn't those damn Tarnished, it's his... consort.
His consort who has made his lap their resting place. His consort who... well... he can't describe it. He can't describe anything really, because Fate wouldn't even let him have a normal courtship. By the Erdtree, HE was the one being courted. Not the other way around. Their initial relationship went a little something like this:
When Morgott first met his spouse, he was convinced they were a fallen God, something that managed to elude Radahn's mastery over the stars. Or perhaps a vestige of his mother's warring years.
And of course, his consort wouldn't say. They were too busy staring at Morgott with wide, luminous eyes. Or something like that.
Morgott was too busy being his judgemental self as usual because why do their eyes look like a Full Moon?
He later found out that his otherworldly lover's eyes reflected the phases of the moon, which was actually fueled by their emotions. For example, when they were excited, their eyes were luminous like the Full Moon. When they were angry or saddened, their eyes were similar to the New Moon. Interesting.
The stranger was instantly taken by him, if only because he was unlike anything they'd ever seen. Morgott was not amused. Actually, he was really taken aback.
And soon, they, like the Tarnished and Godrick's maniacal laughter, became a thorn in his side. One that wouldn't really go away. Not that he really wants them to.
Morgott was inundated with questions about his origins and the Lands Between.
His horns and tail were of special interest and yes, he had to keep it lifted up more often than not because they would. not. stop. rubbing it. It felt good, yes, but he would rather be cast aside yet again that admit that.
They practically turned his silent, lonesome days upside down. They even asked questions while he was doing work. As in looking at actual paperwork. Of course, this is when he realized that their hair was like the cosmos, deep and dark and... are those stars?!
Of course, Morgott became used to their presence over time and became very intrigued by his now-consort's physical appearance. ("Thou'rt certain thy origins aren't... cosmic?" "...No more certain than you are. ❤️" "...That is not an answer.")
And then they dropped the bombshell of all bombshells: "I want to court you." ("What?" "I want to court you, Morgott." "Cease such nonsense." "It's a date then! 🌟" "....")
It wasn't even a true courtship. It was really just his... now-lover (?!!?!?!?) presenting him with a wedding band in the shape of... were those stars?!
So yes, Morgott is now married. Yes, he said yes. No, he doesn't care to elaborate. Yes, his consort is... different. But so was he. And they showed him the beauty of that every day.
And so if he had to choose between dealing with a foul Tarnished and their puny weapon, his wayward family, or his insanely curious spouse, he'd choose them every time...

i think it's really interesting that morgott names all of his "willful traitor" family in his boss fight cutscene and yet leaves messmer out, despite him seeming to be so overwhelmingly coded as The Quintessential Traitor. like, is it that
morgott considers messmer (again, heavily associated with snakes and fire, the specific symbolic enemies of the erdtree, and managed to get his whole throne removed) such a traitor that he refuses to even speak his name
morgott actually does not consider messmer a traitor (they do appear to share similar motives, and we have no real evidence of messmer participating in the shattering war, which is morgott's chief complaint about everyone else)
he's naming shardbearers who participated in the shattering war, specifically (godrick gets included) and messmer doesn't have a great rune/wasn't a part of the shattering, so whatever else aside he was irrelevant to the point morgott was making
none of the above; morgott doesn't even know messmer exists (very possible that messmer was born+grew up+got [???] while the omens were in the sewer and they just completely missed each other) so he's just like ah yes. malenia. miquella. that one inexplicable empty space. radahn.

Most people in er fandom: headcanon, that Mogrott can’t read/doesn’t have good education because he grew up in Subterranean Shunning-Grounds .
Me, who doesn’t seek easy ways: headcanon, that Morgott can solve integral equations because he’s a Golden order fundamentalist and the Golden order would adore calculus.
also Radagon, dear, I understand that you’re used to carian-level educated kids, but you shouldn’t give integrals to a boy who lived in sewer month ago, just look at him now, he draws snakes in his homework

one of my all time favourite secret identity tropes is "people assume Character A is in a relationship with their secret identity"
Margit the Fell is seen getting in and out of the Veiled Monarch's bedchambers one too many time
and sure he takes orders directly from the King but multiple meetings that start at sundown and last til dawn?
the comedy potential is endless
(as is the tragedy potential but I refuse to be sad today)

My Souls Hot Takes
Decided to write up a couple of my less popular opinions for souls games. Please don't get upset over any of these, if you disagree that's totally valid
Dark Souls 1:
Bell Gargoyles is my favorite base game boss
I don't like Ornstein and Smough that much
Gwyn's theme is nowhere near as sad or dramatic as its made out to be in my opinion
Painted World isnt fun to me at all
Tomb of the Giants isnt that bad
I miss the whimiscal 80s fantasy aesthetic the series lost in the following entries even if i understand it narratively
Dark Souls 2:
I'm not just a hater or fail to appreciate an underrated gem, I simply dont enjoy this game
I think Darklurker is mid and the runback gimmick is stupid
The world and lore arent that much better to me than any other souls games and dont save the game
Life Gems are actually pretty okay
Old Dragonslayer is really not that big of a deal
Royal Rat Vanguard is the single worst boss in souls to me
Fume Knight is just kinda alright to me, I enjoy Sir Alonne much more
The health cap loss fucking sucks i hate it
Its perfectly fine to both love and hate this game please calm tf down
Dark Souls 3:
Soul of Cinder isnt that exciting, I might just be biased though bc i started the DS games with 3
Jailers arent that bad, Thralls are way worse
Ancient Wyvern kinda funny tbh
I really really dislike Sister Friede
The random wolf guy in ariandel is the wost boss in 3
Corvian Knights are the coolest enemy in the trilogy
The game isnt actually as ugly and monotone as people say
Pontiff Sulyvahn is sooooo mid to me I could not care less for his parry bait jojo stand ass goofy fight
Yhorm is such a nothing boss without the siegward narrative to me
Demon Prince solos literally any other duo boss and its not even close
R1 and O spam is a dark souls staple to me, not DS3 exclusive at all
Dragonslayer Armor and Oceiros are insanely underrated
Sekiro:
Demon of Hatred actually slaps
Corrupted Monk actually slaps
Great Shinobi Owl is really mid to me, too gimmicky
Guardian Ape has the same issues as DoH just to a lesser extend
The 2 giant beast (serpent and carp) area hazards are so good
Souls should give underwater another shot imo
Most of the minibosses are kinda bad to me
Bloodborne:
Laurence is actually peak
Not really a fan of Maria's fight, gonna replay the game soon to see if it'll finally click
Winter Lanters are pretty cool
Micolash fans are weird why are there so many
Yharnam Sunrise is the most boring ending of any souls game
As much as i would love it, I cant feasibly see a logical contuination of the Bloodborne universe
Saw Spear mid idc
Chalice Dungeons are both infinitely better and worse than people say I really dont know how to feel about them
Simon's Bowblade is one of the coolest weapons in fiction
Elden Ring:
Morgott is underrated
Dragons are underrated
Placidusax's theme is kinda eh to me
Radahn and Malenia are equal, both fandoms can stfu, it said fought to a standstill for a reason
Rykard is genuinely a good fight even with the gimmick in mind
I don't care for vyke, frenzy, shabriri or any other madness hoobla
I hate using great spears so much
Summons are VALID. If they were cheating they wouldnt be in the game. Get over yourself
Idc how much you can counter it I dont like malenia's waterfowl dance and health regain
Godskin Duo isn't that bad, the REAL enemy is valiant gargoyles
Royal Revenants, Birds and Runebears at least have the decency to be rare... Imps and Lobsters though
Volcano Manor is underrated as fuck, such a unique level for a souls game with so much cool lore and visual flare

would like to see a scenario (whether in the canon universe or a modern AU) where morgott heals enough that when marika comes back and tries to make amends and reconnect, morgott doesn't agree to it. a scenario where morgott comes to realize just how fucking messed up and horrible what was done to him and his brother was, how neither of them deserved any of it, how both of them still bear the wounds from it, and how no amount of apologies is going to make any of that go away. he might acknowledge - even appreciate - her apology but not forgive her and not want anything to do with her.
idk just. let morgott go no-contact with his mom lol

the kindred of rot deserve their own ending you guys are just mean
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Look!!! The lonely, unwanted children are really just after affirmation. :( Mommy issues! Just like all of Marika's kids! Come on dawg they're just as sympathetic a faction as any of the others, surely
Like yeah obviously it's a stretch to posit any such hypothetical as a "good" outcome. but certainly no more than it is to wholeheartedly endorse any of the current endings; the in-universe arguments for all of them are made by parties with clear biases and motives, and there exists no concrete lore to prove anybody is the "correct" choice or whatever. That's half the point of Dark Souls/Elden Ring plots--unraveling "truth" from myriad twisted narratives is messy and not always possible. You have to make inferences and judgments informed, inescapably, by your own biases.
And, yes, the pests engage in slavery in mines but nearly every faction in the Lands Between does that(I think the only exceptions are Rykardans and the immediate Miquellans...? But the troll-pulled pilgrim carriage is ambiguous in fealty). If anything, we see most other factions being markedly more abusive to their subjects(omens, demi-humans, albinaurics, everything directly involving Marika, etc).
More interestingly, taking a step back-- the rot worshipers are direct foils to Millicent; they differ meaningfully only in attractiveness and their inferences.
The kindred imagine the presently sleeping Malenia to want something different from what Millicent specifically does... but both parties are assuming; both Millicent and the Pests have specifically only been around while Malenia was comatose and unable to voice her will. so like. nobody has any idea in the moment what her takes during and after Aeonia are. unless Malenia actually was awake before the Tarnished arrived and did object to the kindred hanging out around her(for which there's no evidence afaik)... it's moot, which party was "correct," barring retrospect colored(not confirmed) by information only revealed later and to which only the Tarnished is privy. And that evaluation would be meaningless by nature anyway.
They're not even doing wrong by Malenia--at least, not knowingly. They just want their goddess's favor... like everybody else. They're certainly weird about it, but bear in mind that our(Millicent's) definition of help involves beating Malenia to death soooooooooo are we really in position to judge the pests' plans, whatever they may be?
I mean. I'm just saying. If the pests/gowry/worshipers were sexy ladies or voiced like say Morgott or Rykard, people would be all over them. It is specifically because they're not fuckable that they fall behind other factions in metatextual moral evaluations.
it's not the shrimp agenda speaking i swear it's just that they have cool grooves

Silly little Elden Ring headcanons and ideas
I want to work on my fanfics, don't get me wrong, I really do, but life (and sudden anxiety that hit my like one of those hero's grave chariots back in 2023 and I'm still doing my best to manage it, anxiety sucks so damn much), has meant that I just haven't had the mindset or energy to write. A shame, I have a couple of ideas though, so I thought I might just post them here, maybe I'll use them in my Timeless Heretic fic series when I get back to writing it, maybe not, I don't know yet.
I have a little headcanon for my current playthrough (solo, spirit ash summons allowed, strength build), that my Idiot Tarnished is an omen sympathizer, has a crush on Margit/Morgott, and uses the Omen Cleaver because she resonates with the plight of the omen. And might also be fascinated by older incantations like crucible stuff or the beast incantations...but I don't have enough levels in faith/don't have enough deathroot to really experiment with a strength/faith build yet lol. (I kind of want reflect one of my runs in a fic at some point, at least when it comes to what weapons and build I've used to get through the game without asking my friend to help me deal with that difficultly spike once you go past Leyndell.)
I know there's a popular dynamic with my fellow Morgott fans, the one where the tarnished is the one that gets him to actually look after himself....but, imagine a tarnished who neglects basic hygiene and self-care as bad as he does. Imagine Morogtt really getting to know this little idiot tarnished who's just as bad at him at looking after themself that it annoys him to no end, and is a wake-up call for him at the same time. So, instead of the tarnished helping Morgott with little, everyday things, it's the Fell Omen working with the tarnished to get them looking presentable, to get them to stay fed and hydrated. Both of them learn to look after each other and find joy in what was once something they both struggled to find the energy and motivation to do.
You know, I should write a Maliketh/Tarnished fic or something. Maliketh is a really cool character, and whenever I'm trying to calm down (because anxiety has a habit of hitting me late at night) I just imagine Maliketh just lying down on some sunny spot in his arena, or chilling out in the bestial sanctum having a nap. I dunno, the idea of this dude just chilling out, in some alternate universe where deathroot isn't a thing and Everything Is Fine or something, is just really calming for some reason.

ELDEN RING theory: Messmer is Radagon and Marika's son ?
Okay okay okay, guys...
Messmer in the new elden ring DLC trailer. I have questions and also some answers. My first thoughts were:
Red hair = Radagon but also, Serpents = God-devouvering Serpent/Rykard but then I paid attention to his dialogue...
I wonder if he is an offshoot or child of Marika and Radagon, he has the golden eyes and the red hair, he's also massive yet he wields red flame (like those of the giants) and Radagon was known to despise his red hair due to red hair being associated with giants (likely hinting that he had giant blood) So, crazy theory but I wonder if Messmer was Radagon and Marika's child before She came into power and he was actually a bit cookoo so his record was basically stripped from the history books. Like, Miyazaki said:
“There was this piece of key art where it shows Messmer sat in this throne-like chair, and people who’ve played the game may recognize this throne to be one of those from the boss room where you battle Morgott. And this represents the thrones at the base of the Erdtree. And it’s supposed to symbolize that Messmer stands on equal footing to these other demigods and children of Marika who sat around in these thrones and held the rooms of the Erdtree.”
Also,
According to Miyazaki, during the DLC we’ll “learn a little about why he wasn’t featured in the legends of the Erdtree, the lands between.”
So, my theory is that he is Radagon and Marika's exiled child. As in his dialogue, he says:
"Mother, woulds't thou truly lordship sanction in one so bereft of light?"
He's basically saying, "Mum [Marika] you really let this dude become lord? A graceless tarnished?"
As to why they exiled him to this land or, as Miyazaki said, "[we'll learn] why he wasn't mentioned in the legends of the Erdtree, the lands between"? I don't really know. Perhaps he represented everything The Greater Will wished to leave behind, i.e. Serpents, dragons (his helm has dragon wings), flame etc.
I like to think that where we're going is the same universe but an alternate dimension which I think Miyazaki has somewhat confirmed so perhaps time passes differently over there.
I don't want to be too concrete in how or when Messmer was born, it could be that he was born while Marika was ruling or perhaps when she was still an Empyrean, he might also be the offshoot created when Marika and Radagon merged (if they weren't always one being.) Perhaps, he is all the bad qualities of Marika and Radagon. The red hair of the giants, the deceitful serpents growing out of him, the flame (probably of the giants) that can burn the erdtree. It's as if they expelled all the faults that didn't align with the nature and principles of the golden order into Messmer and locked him away in another realm.
Hear me out but perhaps the echo Melina tells us in Marika's bed chamber isn't about shattering the elden ring but the moment when Messmer was conceived/made. She says:
"Radagon, leal hound of the Golden Order. Thou art yet to become me, thou art yet to become a God. Let us be shattered both, mine other self."
At first, I thought she says this to convince him to shatter the elden ring with her but the dialogue can be interpreted in so many ways that even this interpretion might be wrong. Perhaps, her calling Radagon her "other self," has two meanings: one, that he is her male aspect/alter ego and two, he is her other half, like, her significant other. So perhaps this was a conversation between them right when they decided to become one being, splitting from one another whenever they saw fit and their literal shattering of bodies/souls against one another is what gave birth to Messmer. Of course, I don't know the specifics of merging with someone so this just very crazy speculation.
(I suggest don't pay too much credence to this theory above, it's mostly just rambling but it is possible, you never know.)
We know offshoots are a thing since there are Malenia's daughters (Millicent and her sisters) and Malenia was an Empyrean just like her mother so it'd make sense if Marika/Radagon also made an offshoot.
Regardless, one thing (I think at least) I'm fairly certain of is that Messmer is son to Radagon and Marika and that he is also definitely associated with the giants in some way, perhaps decended from them much like Radagon or played some part in their downfall. And I think I'll have to delve even deeper into the dialogue and watch the trailer frame by frame to be able to decipher more lol.

asking you about your in-depth trans ranni theory
Oh, THANK you, I'm always happy to infodump about that blue nerd.
Okay, so, before getting into the core of why I think trans Ranni is textually supported, let's go over some of the in-universe history with her:
In the setting, there's a force called Destined Death. It is the natural law of mortality, dictating that everything must eventually come to an end. However, when Queen Marika and her Golden Order came into power, she managed to somehow pluck that law out of the Elden Ring (a massive rune outlining how the world functions at a basic level), hiding it away and effectively banishing death. This allowed for people to live indefinitely by being reborn from the Erdtree when they otherwise would have died.
Marika, along with three of the demigod children of her Golden Lineage (Miquella, Malenia, and Ranni) was an Empyrean - an individual with the potential to channel the power of an Outer God, like Marika and the Greater Will. When Ranni was young, her mother, Rennala, took her to a cloistered spot in Liurnia where she had some sort of communion with another Outer God: the Dark Moon. And she was vibing with it! Whatever ideology it expressed to her, and whatever power it provided, she ended up wanting to work with it. Only one issue: The Outer Will had a vested interest in not being displaced from its position of power.
The Outer Will made its power known not only through deifying Marika and maintaining the Golden Order, but also by sending a number of creatures in service to act as its enforcers: The Two Fingers. Despite how ridiculous they look, they're apparently incredibly dangerous and just about immortal, which makes the fact that each Empyrean is shackled to one to force them to toe the line all the more difficult. Somehow, the presence of one of these linked Two Fingers influences the destiny of an Empyrean, preventing them from supplanting the Golden Order. But Ranni, being clever, figured out a loophole.
Ranni, through some means, found out that the Two Fingers' power over her actions was somehow bound to her body. To sever that link, she chose to do the unthinkable: Working with a group of co-conspirators that included at least her brother Rykard, Ranni arranged for the thievery of Destined Death, and committed ritual suicide in a fashion that managed to kill her body without killing her soul - which, incidentally, did kick off the entire horrific state the world of Elden Ring is currently in, but she was being a girlboss, so it's okay.
The evidence I can point to for her being transgender starts here. To still interact with the world after killing her own body, Ranni chose to let her soul inhabit a finely-made doll instead. It seems as though this may be why she kept Preceptor Seluvis around despite how utterly untrustworthy he is; for better or worse, he's a brilliant magician when it comes to the magic and maintenance behind the doll constructs Liurnia is known for. However, Ranni DIDN'T choose to have the doll made in her own former image, which was presumably well within her capabilities given the in-depth planning that went into her stealing and using Destined Death in the first place. Instead, she had it made to resemble a witch, Renna, who had taught her at some point in the past. In fact, during her first meeting with the player, she outright INTRODUCES herself as Renna, keeping her true identity close to her chest in the face of an unknown variable.
So, that explains it, right? She chose not to look like her old body because she wished to live in hiding, open and shut. But this is where small details start to get interesting. Ranni the Witch is called out by name by Morgott during his pre-fight cutscene, in which he looks across the various thrones in Leyndell abandoned by the other demigods. Radahn and Rykard's thrones are both much, much smaller than the forms we find them in during the course of the game - but oddly enough, RANNI'S is sized for the Renna doll she inhabits, a body that's outright shorter than the player character. We can find her original corpse at the top of Liurnia's divine tower, and she's just as huge as one might expect of a demigod.
This implies that, between the Night of the Black Knives when she performed her ritual and the Shattering, when the demigods went to war with one another over who got to take control of the Elden Ring, Ranni showed up to court with her fellow demigods in her doll body. This would completely defeat the purpose of trying to hide her identity from those who could pose a threat to her. In addition, Ranni shows that she can either extend her consciousness to other bodies, or inhabit other dolls entirely; during the latter part of her questline, you find her inhabiting a miniature version of her doll body, suggesting that she may be fully capable of switching to a different form if she was so inclined.
As a result, my suggestion is that Ranni wasn't just abandoning her original flesh because it was linked to the Two Fingers. If that was the case, she likely would have just stuck to that original body's form when choosing a replacement body to inhabit. It's not like there's some sort of overriding tactical, strategic, or even just physical benefit to the Renna doll, either; Ranni clearly LIKES to feel tall, judging by the stack of books she sits on in her tower to stay above eye level with the player character when they visit. In addition, while there's plenty of portraits and statues of the other demigods how they appeared pre-Shattering (save for the Omen brothers, for obvious reasons), Ranni's image is conspicuous for its absence throughout the entire game.
Ranni has enough incidental bits and pieces scattered around the game to suggest that she had deep personal reasons to inhabit her current form, reasons which go well beyond practicality. And honestly, the fact that signs point to the rest of her family being outright supportive of her (Rykard, who has portraits of the rest of his family, conspicuously leaving her out despite the implication that they were close, the fact that her throne is sized for the doll, etc.) is really heartwarming in an otherwise bleak setting if you choose to make this sort of reading.
Anyway thank you for allowing me to infodump about my blue nerdy-ass wife

hi i’m just here to gush about the omen twins (and just omens in general) from just stuff i’ve picked up on.
so first things first, let’s start with the easy stuff (that like everyone knows): their opinions of themselves/outlook on their race. morgott is clearly ashamed of being an omen, he shaves his horns, he wears rags, yadda yadda yadda. mohg is like… the exact opposite, he wears extravagant clothes, he owns real estate (mohgwyn palace), he has a polycule (the bloody fingers), etc.
time for me to talk about them individually.
Morgott:
THIS MAN’S LIFE STORY IS GUT PUNCH AFTER GUT PUNCH AND YOU DO NOT GET A BREAK. IT IS UNIVERSALLY AWFUL AND HE DOESNT DESERVE A SINGLE SECOND OF IT.
first of all, when comparing his horns to Mohg’s, they grow in an entirely different way. Morgott’s horns grow out; and they resemble a crown. when you see Morgott, you go “Wow, that is certainly an interesting looking human being.”
i think it’s very clearly implied that the erdtree decides when someone has exhausted their usefulness, and when that happens, they turn into that dust we see upon killing enemies. so let’s think for a second, how many bosses don’t do that when they die? ONE. AND ITS MORGOTT. do you know how long it keeps me up at night to know that this man had it SO BAD that LITERALLY GOD let his body sit around just long enough that he could finally hear some kind of approval from someone who loved him.
not only is he kept around, his horns are excised by the erdtree, the erdtree literally excises the omen """curse""" (i’ll get to why that’s in quotes) from him, as a final act of mercy, FUCK.
Mohg:
this guy.
this. fuckin. guy.
let me preface with this: Mohg is an animal. i don’t mean that in like a hateful way, it’s genuinely how he is portrayed.
let’s start with the horns, just like Morgott. Mohg’s doesn’t shave them, but unlike Morgott, whose unshaved horns grow out and up, Mohg’s grow in, they wrap around themselves. exhibited in rams and boars, their horns will dig into their skin as they grow, if you look at Mohg’s big ugly face for longer than two seconds you’ll notice that he is also exhibiting said phenomena.
Mohg is, by design, a monster. you see his wings, you look at his jagged teeth and twisting horns and go, “Woah, is this a new species in the lands between, is he the last of them” and when you read his lore, BAM. HES AN OMEN.
also, i think it is so telling of Morgott’s opinion of his brother in that cutscene with the thrones; Morgott lists the runebearers, except Mohg. i don’t know if there really is a reason for that beyond “Why would Mohg have a throne?” but i like to think it’s Morgott protecting(?) Mohg, or atleast keeping him hidden from us by simply not acknowledging him. Mohgwyn Dynasty and the bloody fingers are likely one of the biggest threats to the golden order, and I highly doubt that Morgott would just let that slide, he must have a reason for not searching for his brother, and i believe it’s willful ignorance.
FINALLY, I PRESENT A THEORY TO YOU ALL.
so, this theory was presented to me by my friend Mita, and it’s a great one. she suggests that the omens are linked to the erdtree and that Marika invented the stigma around them because that interferes with the order, and that theory is just GRAHHH it’s so good.
so fun fact, after a mistranslation of the bible, many statues of moses have him horns. if you’ve played elden ring past the intro, you’ve probably noticed all of the catholic imagery.
isn’t that INTERESTING???
isn’t that. isn’t that just so COOL????
MISTRANSLATION.
HORNS.
i personally believe that those statues of moses are the biggest inspiration for the omens, and that the curse really isn’t a curse at all.
anyways. i don’t know how to end this, if you read all of this i commend you but also i’m so sorry.

An alternate universe where Godfrey snatches Morgott and Mogh from the sewers prior from him being dogged from the Lands Between. A universe where Morgott trains our Tarnished personally. A universe where Godfrey/Hoarah Laux accepts the surrender of certain warriors with either Morgott or Mogh on his head, tugging at his hair. A universe where they can be  - somewhat - loved by a parent, pls.
