i cant even describe how upset the alex kister situation makes me. not because i had an attachment to the thing he made, not in the slightest, but its because it is a direct parallel to what i went through like a year ago. down to the manipulation disguised as playful banter so you cant pick up that hes coaxing someone into something at first glance and everything. it was all just so deeply real to me and it hurt to read. seriously. its completely fucking terrifying to see this shit happen over and over and over again with no end in sight, for kids to look up to creatives in a field they admire only to be completely churned out and crushed by those creatives as nothing but perverse objects they can manipulate. if youre a fan of what kister makes and youre upset that you cant like his stuff anymore, you are the lucky one in the scenario. i mean this sincerely when i say you have lost nothing. this dude had unimaginable amounts of power and pressure over the hopeful young kids he manipulated. his victims are getting death threats for speaking out about this shit because of how big his platform is. the children he manipulated? that he abused and took advantage of? they are the ones who are risking losing everything by speaking out about this. the first priority shouldnt be mourning the fact that "my favorite analog horror series is tainted forever now :(" it should be supporting the victims of this. always. and if you dont believe them just because your favorite little analog horror boy makes suuuch good content and could never do such a thing? from the bottom of my heart, as someone whos gone through the same ordeal and all the consequences that come with speaking out about it, fuck you.

i feel like it's not rare at all for characters who on all accounts are "coded" to come across as good - beautiful, angelic, kind, gentle, open, soft-spoken - to turn out to be villains, but i want more of the opposite: i want more characters who are very much "coded" to be seen as evil - ugly, monstrous, demonic, sneaky, suspicious and secretive, sarcastic and biting, harsh, circling around the hero like they're a beast sizing up their prey - to turn out to be good guys, or at least not villains

i don't know i'm just at a point where everytime a character who is Very Clearly intended to be seen as evil turns out to be evil, i'm disappointed lmao

hey. as a lesbian who watched somerton's videos you have to understand that it wasn't "fucking blatant" and it was embedded between smart (stolen) points in the structure of the argument, and was given fake "evidence" to prove it --- something hbomberguy specifically shows with every example. i personally always noticed that it was weird and it was always a critical point when watching his videos (and also uh, side note but you shouldn't primarily go to cis white men for good takes about feminism and the lesbian experience anyways --- like, you should be watching a diverse intake of thought from underrepresented creators and understand that the cis/white/male perspective will always be limited because it's not universal)

to many, though, it for sure didn't register as a pattern of behavior until the instances were laid out. saying that audiences were "abhorrent" for "excusing" it just shows a complete lack of sympathy, because again: the pattern of behavior was the problem, and rhetorically each individual instance was relegated to enough plausible deniability where it slipped by most audiences who were probably watching the video in the background while they folded laundry or something. when bigotry is shrouded under the guise of fact, it takes on the affect of truth and abuses the viewer's trust in the creator. sure, media literacy is a huge problem, and i've written and researched so much into that, and yeah yeah audiences should "do better." the reality is though, putting the blame on the audience feels a little misogynistic in itself, bc you're just shifting the blame from the literal people who need to be blamed for practicing bigotry --- cis white men with a large platform.

the real thing u should be saying here is to call for a diversification of one's media intake, but no -- let's blame the audience for getting lied to, instead of uplifting female, queer, trans, poc, etc voices. the only way people "need" to do better, imo, is listening to those people instead and seeking multiple perspectives.

like y'all, let's retire this very new narrative that all james somerton fans were evil misogynists who willingly supported this and need to be destroyed. really most people who watched his content were younger queer people genuinely interested in queer media analysis, film theory, and queer history, probably excited that a long video essay was dedicated to their favorite show/movie/etc, and lets not pretend this wasn't disappointing for them as well. can everyone like chill out.

The notice something is off when you're with Itto. You didn't really respond to his energy most of the time. One day while you and the gang are in the streets of Inazuma, and a small fight breaks out. Shinobu notices how you tense up, you look like you're about to run or punch someone. When one of the fighting guys gets a little to close to you... Shinobu noticed how you humming something.

The second sigh to notice was when you were with Kaeya, he had placed a hand on your shoulder and you froze. Not in the "I'm paying attention" way but in the "if I don't move then no one can see me" way. It makes him worried. When he removes his hand from your shoulder and goes to ask you, you're gone.

Everyone starts getting more worried about you. They want to help you. They only learn what's going on, after Sun shows up.

Sun is a strange presence to them. They've only seen Moon and never Sun. But they love Sun, and Sun loves them back. When you were in the library with Lisa, alone, she heard humming coming from you. She thought Sun was humming while reading and didn't think too hard about it...

No one knew why you switched between Sun and Moon or why they seemed to humming random things but it didn't bother them.

They learn what happened to you from Sun. Sun was talking with Eula and said, "you're nicer then her." This causes Eula to freeze. She keeps asking questions and Sun gives vague answers. But Eula and other put together what they know, and Kaeya and Shinobu bring up what they saw with Moon.

The pieces come together, and give them a horrific picture. Trauma, something so bad happened to you that you had to create the personality of Moon to protect your Sun. They're all horrified and made it the personal mission to make you feel better.

As they make you more comfortable, they realize the Moon is warmer than they originally thought.

Now, Sun and Moon, who hurt you? Don't worry, they aren't gonna hurt you. Let them know who hurt you so they can make your life easier from now on.

ngl I might get crucified for this but I think the dunmeshi yuri/yaoi discourse was stupid and misrepresenting the ao3 factoids. as of today the most written for mlm ship is labru with 69 (nice) and the next most popular has less then half that at 31. meanwhile farcille has 125 out of the 154 F/F ships in the tag. it is by FAR the most popular ship, with the next two most written about sapphic ships being marcille/izutsumi (9) and kiki/namari (4) and also a couple of x readers? so farcille dominates by far

it seems to me that what's going on is that several mlm ships are in rotation in terms of popularity whereas farcille dominates as the singularly popular wlw ship.

and this doesnt mean that the issues people were bringing up about the general lack of sapphic content and the way fandom treats female characters aren't valid, but idk man when farcille fanart is cropping up daily and getting thousands of notes and has about twice more the amount of fics that the most popular mlm ship on ao3 has its like. I dont think this is really a fandom that proves that point.

I would like to see some more variation in smaller wlw pairs to make up the difference though! I dont think I see any tade/izutsumi fics and we need to change that they could be so cute.
