Kai’s Temper

Summary: Kai accidentally harms Lloyd with his fire by accident. Wu taught Kai many things after this. Ep. 17 “The Administration”.

Fic:

“Why isn’t Heatwave healing faster?! Are you sure the crystal goo is still working Kai?” Wyldfyre asked, concerned and worried. Wyldfyre turned to Heatwave and Kai turned to her.

 “Things like this take time.” Kai said, but then Wyldfyre turned back to him. 

“No they don’t!” Wyldfyre yelled out. “Heatwave has to get better! And we have to get that Dragon Core back to the other Ninja! And this is taking forever!” Wyldfyre grunted in anger. 

“Impatience makes everything worse, Wyldfyre.” Kai told the angry teen, trying to calm her down. “It clouds your judgment and you make bad decisions. Trust me. I know from experience.” Kai grimaced, thinking about all the horrible decisions he’s made, as well as his deepest regrets. 

“But we can’t just do nothing!” Wyldfyre cried out, trying to make a point. She whipped tears off of her face. “You wanted to learn some of Master Wu’s techniques? Try this. Moving through forms. It’ll help you focus, to be in the moment.” Kai said, and started to perform some of the forms his master had taught him. 

“Standing in one place, moving super slow? I told you, I can’t do nothing!” The teen huffed out, before turning to Heatwave, who had whined out in pain. 

“This isn’t nothing, you’ll see.” Wyldfyre sighed out, before getting into the same position and copied him. But she kept getting distracted by Heatwave. She suddenly lost her cool. “I can’t do this! I can’t stop worrying about Heatwave!” Wyldfyre said, and turned to Heatwave, Kai following suit. “He’s never been hurt like this before.” 

“When you’re worried is exactly when this is most helpful. You are not your emotions. Focus on your form, let the emotions pass through you.” Kai began to re-perform the form.

 “You pass through you!” Wyldfyre yelled out in anger and frustration. Effectively breaking Kai out of his focus. “You’re patient, I'm not, remember?” Wyldfyre pointed out, before Kai burst out into fits of laughter.

 “Okay, no one has ever called me ‘patient’. I’m the hothead, in more ways than one. Master Wu had me practice my forms. I was never as good as the others, but Ninja never quit. So I kept going until it worked enough to calm me down. And if it can work for me, it can work for anyone. Even you, because you kind of remind me of someone.” Kai said, staring at Wyldfyre, who looked unimpressed. 

“Who? Master Wu?”

 “No! Me! You remind me of me! So, if you're ready, let’s try again.” Wyldfyre sighed out, before again, copying Kai’s movements.

Once Wyldfyre calmed down, They both sat down around the fire. “How did you know that these…forms…and the crystal goo, would work?” The teen asked. Kai looked down at the floor. 

“Master Wu taught me that, but the context of the situation was the problem.” Kai told the teen, his gaze darkening.

“What is this…con-tex-t?” Wyldfyre asked, genuinely confused. 

“Let me tell you a story. It isn’t an exhilarating one, but maybe it can teach you a thing or two.” Kai said, turning his head to Wyldfyre. 

Wyldfyre nodded excitedly. “Yes! A story!” Kai chuckled at this, she reminded him of himself, but also Lloyd’s childlike behavior. 

“One time, a few years ago, I ended up failing a mission. I was so angry, because it was a simple mistake that caused me to fail it.” Kai spoke, and began recalling the memory.

“UGHH!!” Kai groaned in anger. He kept on punching the dummy. “It’s all my fault!” Kai yelled out. Lloyd was outside the door with a worried look on his face. He could hear Kai screaming from outside the monastery. They had just beaten Morro, and Kai was already frustrated from that. Kai kept hitting the dummy. But he was so angry that he didn’t notice that he had started to use his fire. 

After listening to Kai beat up the dummies, Lloyd decided he would check up on Kai. Lloyd walked in. “Hey Kai-“ Lloyd was cut off by a searing pain in his torso. He screamed out in agony. 

“LLOYD!” Kai screamed out. Lloyd had fallen, but Kai caught him before he hit his head on the ground. Kai was panicking. Everyone was gone, they were either on a mission or out doing something. Kai was forced to sit out on missions for a couple of days, and Lloyd was on recovery time. 

Kai carried Lloyd to their medical room and laid him down in one of the beds. Lloyd was groaning and crying. Kai grabbed the front of Lloyd’s gi and carefully pulled it open. He cringed when he saw some of it stick to Lloyd’s injury. When he got a full view of the wound, Kai wanted to throw up. The burn was pretty bad. Kai suspected that it would be a second or even worse, a third degree burn. He tried to remember what Zane had taught him about how to treat severe burns.

That’s when he heard the doors to the monastery open and Kai ran out of the medical room to see who it was. Hopefully it was Zane. When Kai ran out, he spotted Wu and ran to him. “Kai? What is wrong?” 

“Lloyd! Fire! Accident! I’m so sorry!” Kai managed to yell out in a panic, he was having a hard time breathing.

“Kai, show me where Lloyd is.” Wu said, trying to distract the panicked ninja. 

Kai led Wu to the medical room. When they walked in, Wu walked over and examined Lloyd. “Follow me Kai. We don’t have long. Lloyd can’t go untreated.” Wu said, and gently grabbed Kai’s wrist and led him to the monastery’s entrance. 

When Kai was in the forest, he began to ask questions about what they were doing, more like what Wu was doing. “Why are you smashing rocks! We can’t just do nothing! Lloyd is not getting any better from us smashing things on the ground!” Kai said he was getting more and more impatient.

“Impatience makes everything worse Kai.” Wu told the angry and frustrated teen. “It clouds your judgment and you make bad decisions.” Wu finally broke open a rock. He showed it to Kai. 

“This is what we’re looking for. Find more like this.” Wu instructed his student. Kai began smashing and then finding more blue crystals. 

When Wu was leading him back to the monastery, Kai and Wu found a total of 6 crystals. Kai was still frustrated and confused, but he had learned not to question his master so easily. 

Wy led Kai back to the medical room and placed the crystals down. “What are we supposed to do with these?” Kai asked, turning his gaze to his little brother, whom he had hurt.

“Melt these with your fire.” Wu said, ignoring the teen's question. Kai did as he was told and melted the crystal into a gooey like substance. “Now put it on Lloyd’s burn and spread it around.” Kai again, did as he was told and placed the goo on Lloyd. 

“What is this supposed to even do-“ Kai cut himself off as he had noticed Lloyd's burn was a lot less red, and the skin wasn’t as irritated. Kai repeated the same process until Lloyd’s burn was fully covered. “How did you know that this would help?” Kai asked, not letting his gaze leave his brother, who had finally calmed down and seemed to be in less pain. Wu turned to his student. 

“This crystal can be found anywhere in the 16 realms and has a very great burn-healing agent. You just need to calm down and see things from a different perspective. “You are not your emotions Kai.” Wu told Kai, who had turned to his master.

“So that’s how you knew about that crystal goo.” Wyldfyre said, she surprisingly was silent throughout the whole story. 

“Yup! Like my master had told me, not all lessons are about fighting. A ninja is more than their fighting skills. It’s not about the size of the ninja in a fight, it’s about the size of the fight in the ninja.” Kai said, and Wyldfyre turned to Heatwave. Kai looked at the teen and saw so much potential. But he also saw himself. Maybe she’ll come around to the idea of being a ninja and on a team. Maybe one day.

National Chili Day

“Wish I had time for just one more bowl of chili.” –Kit Carson (allegedly the words spoken on his deathbed)

Some like it hot, some like it mild, some like it on top of a baked potato and some prefer it with or without beans – but however it is most appreciated, National Chili Day is the perfect excuse for millions of spicy food fans all around the world to chow down on a bowl of this delicious fiery favorite.

History of National Chili Day

Though many people believe chili originated purely in Mexico, modern thinking suggests that it was probably truly created in Texas and is a blend of Native American, Spanish, and Mexican cuisines. This claim is supported by the fact that the first-ever written reference to chili occurred in the city of San Antonio, Texas in 1828. This is just one of the many delicious varieties of food that fall into the category of Tex-Mex.

However, one legend dates chili back a little further, stating that some immigrants who came from the Canary Islands brought the recipe with them to San Antonio when they settled there in the 1700s. This was before the name “chili” came to be and it was simply referred to as “Spanish stew”.

Eventually, by the 1880s, a popular way to eat the dish in San Antonio was by picking up a “bowl o’ red” at a chili stand in an open-air stall, usually run by a “chili queen”. The popularity of chili began to spread throughout the US, and it was given a huge boost when it was featured at the 1893 World’s Fair which took place in Chicago, Illinois.

The dish that is now known as simply “chili” has, in the past, often been referred to as “chili con carne”, which just means chili with meat. Of course, today, many people make it without meat, and it can easily even be made into a vegan dish with no animal products of any kind.

Some people do tend to spell it differently, depending on where they are from. Most Americans will include only one “l” in the word, while some British folks and people from other parts of the world may add an additional letter to spell it “chilli”. But no matter how it is spelled, this is certainly a tasty dish that is worthy of celebration!

1828 First written description of Chili

J. C. Clopper writes, after visiting San Antonio, Texas, about “a kind of hash with nearly as many peppers as there are pieces of meat – this is all stewed together.”

1880s Chili stands become popular in San Antonio

Women who are called “Chili Queens” set up trailers or carts to serve spicy bowls of beans and meat (chili con carne) to workers and passersby on the street, where small tables, seats and lanterns were set up. These last until the 1930s when the health department shuts them down.

1896 Chili powder is invented in Texas

German immigrant William Gebhardt creates a way to pulverize dried chiles using a meat grinder, which eventually becomes the product known as Gebhardt’s Eagle Chili Powder. It’s a critical ingredient in Chili.

1960s An American president loves chili

Lydon Johnson, president of the United States from 1963-1969, declares that Texas Chili is the best: “One of the first things I do when I get home to Texas is to have a bowl of red. There is simply nothing better.” 

1977 Chili becomes the state dish of Texas

As the continuation of its association with Texas, the state’s legislature names Chili the state dish.

How to Celebrate National Chili Day

Though not an official public holiday, National Chili Day is widely celebrated with many restaurants offering free samples of their own unique recipes. Others mark the day with a huge chili party for family and friends – or simply make sure they have a big bowl of chili for lunch!

Make a Big Pot of Chili

Even people who don’t really do much cooking can make a pot of chili to enjoy with a whole group of friends. It really is one of those meals that allows pretty much everything to be thrown into a pot and simmered while the flavors meld together.

Lyndon B. Johnson, United States President from 1963-1969, was a huge lover of chili and named his favorite recipe after his ranch in Texas, Pedernales River Chili. In 1977, lobbyists worked to convince the state legislature to call chilli the official state food of Texas.

In the late 1890s, it was possible to buy a bowl of chili off of the back of a wagon for a mere 5 cents. This even came with an unlimited number of crackers to go along with it–and usually a glass of water too.

The first chili cook-off is recorded to have taken place in 1952 at the State Fair of Texas located in Dallas. But another story says that the first one took place in 1967 in Terlingua, Texas, where no winner was declared–as it was a tie between a native Texan and a person from New York!

Desert

Since coming back to the city I had to rent a air bnb until my official home comes together. Sadly, the person I rented from didn't fit the vibe of the land if you know what I mean. I paid a little extra and did a tad renovation for a discount in rent.

Residing in the desert allowed me to keep the focus on the plaster, and wood tones of the furniture that I picked out. With some tiny touches of artistic vibes and less focus on technologic pieces. ]

It's still coming together but this is a nice preview of what I have going on.

TRC SciaccheTrail expedition

Avremmo dovuto passare l’inverno a pestare fango alle campestri, per poi andare tutti insieme a trovare Nic e la Chri a Manarola, a bere vino e a correre in canotta con una borraccia in mano. Non è successo nulla di tutto ciò, porco cane.

Giovedì, prima del corso di Storia e critica dei testi musicali guardo il meteo per il weekend: 14° e neve. Sono un po’ confusi. Organizzo una staffetta impossibile per farmi recuperare dal Giulio giacca e pantaloni lunghi a Vicenza. A Trento piove da una settimana, ma le temperature non scendono mai sotto i dieci gradi, e poi in Liguria fa caldo mi dico. Roby è fuori uso per un’infiammazione a un adduttore e forse è costretto a saltare la gara e Cariboo ha il covid. Rinunciamo al campeggio e prendiamo in affitto un appartamento a Monterosso. Tutto sembra andare a puttane.

Sono stato solo una volta in Liguria, in bicicletta: ero arrivato col treno a Ventimiglia, da Limone Piemonte, avevo fatto gli ultimi dieci chilometri d’Italia per poi entrare in Francia, dunque questa è la seconda. Scendendo ci fermiamo in un Autogrill dai tristi ricordi nei pressi di Mantova per poi continuare verso Parma. L’autostrada della Cisa fa schifo, il tempo è pessimo e in questa stagione la valle è morta e lugubre. A Monterosso troviamo Andrea, la Vale e una loro amica, e poi Giulio e la Cate, che ci accompagnano al ritiro pettorali, dove conosco finalmente di persona Nicola e la Christine. Lei viene da Duluth, Minnesota, un posto che conosco solo perché ci è nato Scott Jurek, viene nominato in Fargo, e perché ho una carta degli Stati Uniti appesa davanti alla scrivania. Nic mi dà un pettorale per Paco.

Sinceramente, fino al giorno prima di partire mi era passata completamente la voglia di correre. Non riuscivo a trovare la voglia di fare quattro ore di macchina per andare a correre sotto il diluvio: posso farlo anche in Marzola. Ma quando mi danno il pettorale disegnato da Paco cambia tutto: non sono più lì per me, sono lì per il Nic e per la Chri che hanno tirato in piedi sta cosa, per il Raffaele, Andrea Roby e per il Trento Running Club, per Ste, per Giulio e la Cate e per quel minchione che non c’è più. Ho sperato fino all’ultimo che non piovesse e che facesse un caldo africano, adesso non me ne frega più un cazzo. L’unica cosa che mi frega è andare là fuori e correre.

Roby decide il giorno stesso di venire e provare a correre: stacca da lavoro a Trento nord alle 20, prende la macchina e parte. Nel frattempo la notte è un inferno, entra acqua dalla finestra, il vento si incanala dal mare e risale il paese scagliandosi sulla nostra finestra svegliandoci di soprassalto a ogni fischio, il cane di Andrea abbaia, poi Roby arriva nella notte. La mattina è gelida. Indosso tutto quello che ho con me: una maglietta a maniche lunghe da deserto (bianca coi buchetti), una t-shirt estiva, un antivento e la giacca in Gore-Tex. Niente di quello che ho è fatto per tenere caldo. Ho la borraccia a mano e un paio di guanti. Nello zaino una coperta termica, dei pantaloni da pioggia, otto gel, il cellulare.

Dieci metri dopo essere usciti di casa siamo già fradici. Alla partenza ci fanno restare sotto l’acqua per un quarto d’ora, e in quel momento penso seriamente che non dovremmo partire. C’è il Filo Canetta mezzo ibernato, scambiamo due parole. Poi ci portano in un tendone: c’è Alexi Pappas che balla in reggiseno e leggings leopardati insieme a una sua amica greca, ci sono il Mau Scilla che parla col Nic, Ivan Mazzarini, e Marco De Gasperi che mi dice che duecento metri sopra sta nevicando. Un tipo che non so chi sia si mette a fare un discorso del cazzo al microfono, mi sento un po’ in imbarazzo per il Nic che si è tanto dato da fare, ma frasi come “c’è poco da ridere” e “se continuate a parlare non vi facciamo partire” sono spiacevoli. Ci fanno uscire, siamo convinti che ci controllino il materiale, parte un conto alla rovescia improvvisato, non capisco più cosa succede, partiamo.

Piove di traverso, in un minuto mi scaldo, le gambe girano, grido a Manu: “oh, a tutta”, lui mi risponde “a tutta Filo”, e parte a 3’50”. Non lo rivedo più. Sulla salita becco il Giulio, ci scambiamo due frasi, inizio a rimontare posizioni fino a che non trovo Luzia. Nel frattempo prendiamo quota e la pioggia si trasforma in neve. C’è una montagna arsa di roccia nera con degli alberi bruciati e neri come il carbone, e la neve bianca arriva dal basso, dal mare. È surreale. Corriamo insieme, chiacchieriamo. Ho molta stima di Luzia e penso sia una delle poche atlete davvero fighe in Europa, sono contento di condividere un po’ di chilometri con lei. Iniziamo a divertirci e a spingere, sempre in controllo. Intanto la neve aumenta, per terra iniziano ad esserci una quindicina di centimetri. Non riesco a guardare dritto, il cappuccio mi scende sugli occhi e tira un vento gelido. Ogni tanto prendo una frasca in faccia, mangio un gel, mi infilo le mani nel culo per il freddo, ma sto bene. Poi a un punto di assistenza un vigile del fuoco sul percorso ci fa: “gara finita”.

In quel momento realizzo di essere in mutande in mezzo a una tormenta di neve, la temperatura corporea mi scende immediatamente. Se sto fermo rischio l’ipotermia. Il pompiere ci dice di seguire la strada asfalta che porta a Corniglia. Corro con Luzia in discesa spiegandole la situazione, e poco dopo veniamo raggiunti da un gruppo di venti persone, tra cui Roby (che non ho capito quando mi ha superato), il Dega, Filippo Canetta, che comunque va sempre a cannone, e la Desco; non vedo Cody Reed, Manu e Katie Schide, che dopo scoprirò essere lì con noi. Inizia a essere sempre più freddo, sulla giacca si forma uno strato di neve che si scioglie e si ricongela diventando un monolite di ghiaccio. Dopo sette o otto chilometri su questa strada arrivano delle jeep del Soccorso Alpino e alcuni volontari.

Sono in macchina schiacciato tra Roby e Luzia, il riscaldamento mi scioglie la neve che ho addosso e che inizia a entrarmi nei pantaloncini, inizio a tremare. Alla stazione di Corniglia prendiamo un treno, ho sempre più freddo, provo a prendere il biglietto (non so perché) ma non riesco a tenere il telefono in mano. Provo ad aprire la coperta termica ma rinuncio. A casa il Raffa si è già fatto una doccia e vaga per casa in asciugamano a smangiucchiare cose.

Invito Giulio a farsi una doccia, e tutti insieme proviamo a raccogliere i pezzi di quella mezza giornata. Mangiamo focaccia e beviamo vino, poi un po’ alticci andiamo al pasta party della gara. Qui ci sono le tigri di Varese. Nel frattempo esce il sole e la temperatura si rialza: in quel momento saremmo potuti essere in odore d’arrivo. Passiamo il pomeriggio così, a bere e a mangiare, a chiacchierare con chi capita.

La sera facciamo una cena di Club: il Raffa cucina una frittata di zucchine e la pasta col pesto del pacco gara. Poi ci mettiamo sul divano a guardare per la trecentoduesima volta Unbreakable: Western States Endurance Run, la Vale e la Francesca sono due sante, anche se non potevano aspettarsi un weekend molto diverso.

La domenica Roby parte presto perché deve andare a guidare gli autoscontri a Montebelluna, la Vale e la Francesca vanno a farsi un giro a Manarola, mentre io, Andrea e Raffaele andiamo a fare gli ultimi 15 chilometri di percorso. Realizzo quanto dura sia quella gara, e mi viene voglia di tornarci l’anno successivo. A Manarola Andrea prende il treno per un infortunio alla caviglia, da lì io e il Raffa iniziamo a superare in modo molto arrogante frotte di turisti americani e russi, “è per questo che soffri tutta la settimana”, “hai ragione Raffa”. A Vernazza c’è un casottino sul sentiero con dentro una ragazza, ci ferma e ci chiede di pagare 7,50 euro per fare gli ultimi cinque chilometri di sentiero. Indietreggiamo leggermente per decidere cosa fare, le opzioni sono partirle a correre in faccia sperando che dall’altra parte non arrivi nessuno a prenderci o fare il sentiero alto (nella foto sopra, il sentiero alto passa per la cima più alta sul fondo del paesaggio, noi in quel momento ci trovavamo poco sopra il livello del mare). Alla fine facciamo i bravi, e aggiungiamo 700 metri di dislivello al giro. Ricorda molto quando arrivi a Vallorcine, in cui basterebbe continuare la valle per arrivare a Chamonix, e invece ti fanno salire di 1000 metri di dislivello fino a Tete aux Vents.

Alla fine qualcosa di Sciacche l’abbiamo visto: il sole, le vigne, i turisti americani, i turisti russi, Katie Schide che correva facile sulle scalette di Manarola. Grazie a tutti per il weekend. Ci si vede l’anno prossimo.

El desarrollo de una secuela comenzó en 2011, luego del estreno de Cars 2, y la preproducción en 2014. El productor ejecutivo de la película y director de las dos anteriores, John Lasseter, dijo que el filme sería más emocional y volvería a las raíces originales de las cintas. El equipo de producción buscó múltiples corredores de la NASCAR, particularmente envejecidos, así como un psicoanalista de deportes. Dos de los nuevos miembros del reparto, Cristela Alonzo y Armie Hammer, fueron anunciados en enero de 2017, mientras que Nathan Fillion, Kerry Washington y Lea DeLaria se unieron dos meses después.

Cristela Alonzo como Cruz Ramírez, la entrenadora hispana de McQueen y técnica de las carreras que siempre deseó ser una corredora, pero nunca tuvo la oportunidad debido a sus sentido de inferioridad y porque Sterling desaprobó su potencial. Su patrocinador y número era conocido originalmente como Rust-eze y 95 en la pista de Florida 500 y más tarde Dinoco y 51 al final de la película. Es un Aston Martin DB11. Armie Hammer como Jackson Storm, un Lykan HyperSport modificado, el nuevo rival de carreras de McQueen.
