Step by Step (Jonghyun x Reader) - Chapter 7

Story Type: College AU; 2nd person Characters: Jonghyun x Reader Genre: fluff, romance Summary: You’re in Law School and live in a big house with some of your classmates. The boys live downstairs and the girls on the second floor. You’re not too close with some of them, especially with the guys. But then, Easter is here and you can’t go home to visit your parents, neither Jonghyun can go. That’s when you two start to get closer.

Thursday, 10:30am. You only have one class in the afternoon so you were sleeping a little bit more than the usual but suddenly your phone started to ring non stop. You didn't see who was calling, just answered with a completely sleepy voice, looking like a zombie, trying to finish that soon as possible and come back to your dreams.

"Hm? Yes?"

"Wake up, sunshine."

"Who's it?"

"It's me!"

"Me who?" - You rubbed your eyes and looked to the phone screen, trying to come back to life and see the name there. - "Jonghyun... why are you calling me? Let me sleep."

"You're accepting calls without seeing who is it calling? Oh, that hurt my feelings."

"I was sleeping ok? And you wouldn't stop calling me, so... what do you want?"

"I want you to open the chat and see your messages. Quickly." - And just like that he hung up the phone.

"God…" - You sighed. - "What an educated man we have here."

He sent so many messages, you were shocked with that, maybe something have happened and you didn't know, so you sat on the bed to process the situation.

Jonghy said: Morning, sunshine Jonghy said: Wake up, let's go out for lunch ^^ Jonghy said: Wake up :((( Jonghy said: I'm hungry

You started to laugh reading his messages. It was 10am boy, calm down. Go eat something, it's not time for lunch yet.

Jonghy said: if you don't wanna go with me ok, fineee

What a desperate man. It must me his stomach talking (or not).

Jonghy said: come on :( I know a nice and new place we could check :( Jonghy said: Y/N wake uuup!! Jonghy said: I'm gonna call you *1 missed call from Jonghy*

You were typing to answer him and another message arrived.

Jonghy said: I know you've read it so come quickly, baby I'm waiting for you in the car

And then a picture pops up. It was him wearing all black, with his favorite red cap, inside the car waiting for you. Not even smiling, just with a soft look, calling for you. Your heart skipped a beat seeing that, he's confusing your head and heart. The anger you were feeling when he woke you up has faded away, just like magic. You had to tap your phone screen twice before it locked because you didn't even know what to answer or how to act after that.

"First of all, you're so desperate, dude chill!! lol second of it, where are we going? I hope it’s a 5 star place. I'm going to get ready now, it might take a few minutes so don't lose your patience and wait for me. Btw where are you? Aron's car, right? I'll let you know when I'm ready ;)" - You typed back.

You went to the bathroom and bumped into your friend Rosie in the corridor. She got surprised to see you awake at that time in the morning.

"What happened, Y/N? Is there a monster in your bed? Why are you up already?" - She asked.

"No..." - You laughed after a long sigh. - "Jonghyun just called me. He needs me to do something." - She would mock you if you have said the truth.

"Oh. That's why he was so dressed up. It says a lot." - You entered the bathroom, giving her a suspicious face, thinking about what she meant by that but you decided to let it go.

Soon you went back to your room, you saw a notification coming up in your phone again and yes, it was the most anxious boy in town.

Jonghy said: 5 star?? what do you think I am?? I'm not an heir. But once I get more money I'll take you to one, don't worry :) Jonghy said: you're taking too long... I'm getting bored Jonghy said: and tired

For a few seconds, you really thought about not going just because he was rushing you as if he was dying there. But he was being such a sweetheart to you with no reason and it was better to go see what was his deal.

"I'm goinggg!! Stoppp!!! I'm trying to get ready, don't rush me!! Just a little bit more and I'll be there. Don't die, for god's sake!" - You've sent that to him and JR just replied with a bunch of the pleading face emoji that you could visualize him doing that.

20 minutes have passed and you were leaving the house in a rush, all clumsy with your purse and keys, trying not to drop your phone while texting Jonghyun saying that you were ready to go. You stepped outside and almost got a heart attack. He was right by the door, leaning against the wall, looking at you with such an appealing look.

"Jesus Christ, Kim Jonghyun!" - You put your hands on your chest, scared, shaking a little bit.

"I'm sorry." - He bent down to pick up your keys, feeling regretful for his actions but also laughing at your reaction. - "I didn't mean to scary you."

"But you did! I thought you were in the car, I wasn't expecting you here." - With a saddening tone of voice, you explained yourself, making him feel bad for you.

"Sorry again!" - He made an adorable face. JR wanted to give you a hug but didn't know how to so he just patted your back as if you were just a kid.

"Yeah, ok. But hey, let's go. You were in such a hurry to go eat, what are we waiting for?"

"Yep!" - Both of you were heading to the car. - "You look stunning, by the way!" - He stepped back for a second, feeling flustered for what he has said.

You were wearing a white shirt with a denim jacket and light beige dress pants, you hadn't given much thought to the look itself, just went with your basic stuff. A compliment wasn't something you would expect to receive.

"Thank you!" - You smiled back to him as he hurried to try to be a gentleman and open the door for you. - "So do you!" - You didn't just say that out of politeness.

He smiled back to you, finally getting into the car, driving you both to the restaurant.

I was going to post this exactly on the d day but yeah that shit happened and I couldn't go any further with it, especially because this is indeed the really famous type of chapter when we introduce every character at once lmao anyway, it's been a whole year since I've created this? wow! hope someone is enjoying this thing here :') see you soon!

Some of your colleagues were at the living room watching tv or studying with their notebooks, when you two got home after a messy run to the supermarket, starting to make dinner right away. The mess followed you through the rest of the night, especially because Jonghyun was - trying - to help you make some healthy food but he wasn't good at it. The only thing he was expert at was with the way he found to annoy you.

"I swear to god, if you touch me again I'll throw this spoon with hot sauce on you!" - You said loud and clear. He laughed with no fear.

"Look, it's so good to squeeze your arm. It's so soft, it's just... it calls me to squeeze!" - He smiled raising his arm again in your direction. You hated that you couldn't even hide your laugh because he was so charming looking at you, begging you for that touch.

"Jonghyun!" - You faced him with a gentle look. - "I'm hungry, I wanna finish this soon as possible. Stop bothering me, please!"

Suddenly, the only thing that could be heard there it was the sound of the vegetables frying. JR leaned against the kitchen counter next to you, staring in silence, just admiring you. It's quite impossible to know someone from head to toe, but in that moment, he already knew what to do to get a smile from you again and see your tiny little dimple in your left cheek - Jonghyun's new favorite thing in the world. However, you hate when people do that, when you become the center and they stare directly at you, in a very intimate way. The feeling that your face can get red any second frustates you so much.

"What? Is there's something wrong with me?" - You touched innocently your hair and face, looking for some food there or something strange but nothing.

"No, quite the opposite". - He smiled softly again.

"So why are you staring at me? That won't help dinner to get ready any faster". - You completely felt that, all the frustrations and provocations. Yet the seriousness in your voice got him.

"Wow. You're such a tough girl, I can't even. It's just..."

"What?" - You laughed. - "What? You annoyed the hell of me the whole day and I'm tough? Dude..."

"You're always so rude to me".- Jonghyun pouts right next to you.

"Rude??" - That schoked you.

"Yes. You're mean to me. I've helped you so many times, I'm trying to be here for you and what do I get back? Cursing, threats, slaps". - JR was jokinly counting on his fingers.

You stared at him for a few seconds, didn't know what to say because of your mixed feelings: yes, maybe you were being quite rude to him and it wasn't that necessary but at the same time, he kept bothering you so he deserved that.

"Look... I didn't mean to be rude to you, but there's some things I don't like and there's some things we have the right time to do". - You were quite reluctant to say it, afraid of ending things that didn't even start, to push him away. You started to like more of his company, his silly jokes, the way he touches you just to annoy you.

"I know, you idiot. I was just saying". - He smiled and you breathed a sigh of relief. - "I'm starting to understand that that's the way you are and I know I can't do anything to change it. That's you. And you're like that because of me". - Both stared at each other in silence for two seconds that felt like centuries. - "I'm the one that makes you angry while making dinner, I'm the one that provokes you, that makes you feel uneasy".

"What? What's is this nonsense?" - You giggled pretending your heart wasn't dancing all over your chest.

"I know I annoy you so much but I can't resist. It's so easy to annoy you. You get angry quite easily".

"Damn boy, you really said that looking at me in the face, shamelessly. You're fearless, honey! I admire you."

"Thank you". - JR started to get closer to you, knowing that you had already let your guard down, so he started to hold your arm gently. - "You're a strong and tough girl, I admire you too." - In that moment, you felt so confused. What he was doing? Why is he so close? - "But look, I've found it! You have one soft spot here and it is your arm." - He announced that, laughing, while pinching your arm again. You moved your body away so he did it too with you, he couldn't let you go.

"You really getting on my nerves, Jonghyun". - Both of you were laughing but you gave him a slap on his back, were going to give another one and he ran through the small kitchen until he reached the door. Your roommates all looked to him, a little bit confused and he smiled embarrassed, putting his head down and going back to the kitchen.

The food got ready and you two got your plates done and went to the living room to watch tv with the rest of the gang. It felt like they were all looking at each other, waiting for some good and brave soldier to speak up first. And that person was Aron.

"So... is mister Kim Jonghyun bothering you, my lady?"

"Hm? Me???" - You almost chocked with your food. - "Hm..." - You finished swallowing it. - "You know him, you know he can be really annoying when he wants."

"HEY" - JR exclaimed.

"Yeah, with that I can agree." - Baekho said, holding a laugh and JR threw a pillow at him.

"Me too!" - Minhyun raised his arm.

"See? That's exactly how he treats me!!" - You pointed to their small fight. - "Why is he like this?"

"Baby, I don't know what he have against us." - Baekho whispered to you.

"Maybe it's not what he have against you but against us all, as a group." - Mingi said that laughing and immediately he covered himself with pillows since JR was right by his side.

"Is this a intervention? You all gathered here to say things about me or what?"

"No! Or maybe?" - Aron laughed with the rest of them. - "It's just... I don't know, I thought things changed... between you two..." - After that, the silence in the room. It felt like it was difficult for him to say that because he knows his friend well and knows that he used to have a crush on you during high school, so saying it that loud it would make him feel embarassed but at the same time, the others made him ask that since he was JR's best friend.

"Yeah, it did!" - You said that and JR stared at you, a little bit scared. - "I was the only one that he was able to annoy during a whole weekend, so he thinks he can keep doing that. Please, guys, don't let me alone with him anymore. I'm begging!" - You made a pleading face, fake cried in Baekho arms. JR stared in disbelief but feeling glad that you turned that conversation in another direction.

"Yes, I'm the big villain here. Come on, bring the accusations!" - The main character shouted and they all started to shout back, to point fingers, throw things, laugh, making the night to end the way it started: in a mess.
