January OTP Prompts

This one almost didn't happen because I left my home at 7am this morning and did not return until after 10pm this evening. Your girl is tired but she powered through!

12. New paint

The scent of new paint assaulted Matty’s senses, a sharp and unexpected acidic sting causing him to wrinkle his nose the second he walked through the front door. The pungent, turpentine odor tickled his sinuses, causing him to sneeze into his elbow, his eyes watering from the force. 

“Sorry,” said George, rubbing the back of his neck, he was nervous, visibly as uncomfortable as Matty felt as they tiptoed around one another. Matty wanted George to scoop him into his arms, to tell him he forgave him, to squeeze him tight and never let go. But George was looking at him like he thought if he touched Matty he would shatter. “I thought the fumes would have dispersed a little bit more by now, the painting was finished weeks ago.” 

“What painting?” Matty asked, unwrapping his scarf from around his neck, and sliding off his heavy winter coat. He hung them up in the hall closet without George even having to ask, the motion managing to feel both the most natural, and the most foreign to his body. He felt like a stranger in their home, taking in the little details he hadn’t cared to notice before. The pictures of him and George hanging on the walls, the fuzzy blanket laying on the back of the couch. 

“Um,” said George, his cheeks pink and the tops of his ears burning. “I had the bathroom remodeled while you were gone.” 

Matty blinked, surprised, torn between arguing that it seemed like a decision they should have made together, and making a joke that he hadn’t been gone that long and that if George wanted new tile he didn’t need to send him away to get it. Instead Matty looked down at his feet feeling like a visitor in his own home. He should have taken his shoes off he realized, keeping them on made him feel like he already had one foot out the door. 

“Why?” he asked instead, hating himself the second the word was out of his mouth and George’s face dropped. 

“The tub was ruined,” George said, swallowing hard, “and I didn’t want to look at it anyway.”

“Oh,” said Matty, the implication of George’s words hitting him all at once. Guilt filled his chest despite the weeks of inpatient therapy. He was sick. He needed help. He had gotten it. He was doing better now. 

“But you’re back, and the bathroom is finished, and it’s a fresh start for both of us.” George said, forcing a smile that didn’t reach his eyes as if he wasn’t sure how Matty was going to react. 

“I’m sorry,” he said, blurting out the words before he could think about them, before he could second guess and keep them inside. “I’m sorry that I put you through all of that.” He swallowed hard, “I’m sorry for ruining the bathroom.” 

George gave him a lopsided smile, Matty knew it was forced but appreciated the thought regardless. “Nothing, some new paint couldn’t fix.” 

Matty appreciated him lying.

HELLOOOOOO THE CONSUMMATE KILLER IS HEREEEEEE! This is such an unabashedly shoujo entrance, complete with shooting angles and his own wind machine. I am with fangirl, stanning in open glee.

They are surrounded by killers yet take time out for this and I adore the fact! He's death on very very long legs but he refuses to yank his hand out of hers strongly enough. Heh.

And then he proceeds to cutting through the entire squad like wheat. And you know, he's found himself a right woman because I swear she's swooning harder with each kill.

What I really loved in this scene is his face as she indignantly rushes to his defense. Because it is so so clear that long before he realized he was in love with her, he utterly was. I mean - just look at his face - he's had so many family members and others betray him, to have someone indignant on his behalf (and someone of equal rank, and a beautiful woman, not one of the soldiers who follows him) must be vvvv soothing.

So just to recap for those who may not be familiar with the greyhart lore — Gilderoy stole the memories of a brave werewolf hunter and wrote a book about his missions. The book was a massive success! Fenrir, angered by the growth in anti-werewolf rhetoric spread by this book, decides to turn him. So, on the night of a full moon, he hunts gildy’s place down and waits until he transforms. Unlikely for him however, gildy was in the middle of his 17-step skincare routine and spots him. Gildy has no idea who fenrir is but is lowkey tuned on. And fenrir, spotting him in his long blue bathing robe, is unfortunately in the same position. Anyways long story short — they start fucking, fenrir transforms, gildy gets scared but lowkey more turned on, fenrir transforms back and then they fuck some more and this becomes a monthly routine for them :))))

It wasn’t supposed to be anything serious but now whenever somebody questions the legitimacy of gildy’s book they are mysteriously found dead and fenrir has less and less scars due to gildy’s anti-scar serums soooo.

As for who tops and bottoms?? Ofc gildy is the ultimate pillow princess he does not lift a finger while his dom werewolf daddy does all the work <333 He’s the golden retriever bf and fenrir is black wolf werewolf bf!! Aren’t they such a nuanced depiction of mlm couples??

Charlotte and George are my new favorite couple.

Y'all, I was bawling at final closing scene (last episode) of Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story. It probably hit me so hard as a married woman who hopes to grow old with my husband, but OMG. There's really nothing more romantic and comforting than a love-filled, enduring marriage. As enjoyable as the Bridgerton children are, none of them could possibly live up to Charlotte and George. My heart hurts from the feels I get thinking about their love story, especially with the knowledge that it was based on a real-life royal couple. (Same reason I adore their descendants, Victoria and Albert.)

Tolkien side note:

The good news is, this has rekindled my interest in picking back up my writings for my personal OTP, Thranduil and (Elvenqueen) Maereth--another royal married couple who grew old together, while thriving through many hardships due to the strength and depth of their loyalty and passion for each other. Chills.

Unfortunately, it's become obvious to me that my Thranduil x Maereth or Thranduilion writings get much less support/feedback than my works featuring other canon characters. But well... that's the price most of us writers have to pay for our passion projects!

I think I have screamed most about Pages of you (the number of times AO3 tells me I visited that one is embarrassing), Romp and Circumstance, and The Hollow (yes these are links, what of it, no it’s not cheating), so I’m going mention another favourite: Look For Me In The Sun, gorgeously atmospheric, achy, stunningly written.

This has got to be THE fic this year for me. It’s fitting, because last year it was Nor All That Glisters, which got me into the drarry fandom properly, so of course it’s Sweet who just casually swoops in with another banger that won’t leave my brain, accompanied by the most incredible Joy art. I think this fic had me already at the tags but I was not ready for everything there is to love about the story - it’s impossible to do it justice in just a few short sentences, but if you haven't read it yet, it should be on your list for sure.

💍 Paper Rings by @lettersbyelise (Draco/Harry, E, 50k)

OTP: inevitable. Two timelines, both so exquisitely delivered: eighth-year drarry and grown-up drarry, both times so different and wholesome. This story is everything I love: nuanced, funny, full of pining and history.

🌙 Take the Moon by @tackytigerfic (Draco/Harry, M, 15k)

This fic grabbed me and squeezed, and I don’t think I’ve been able to catch my breath since. I’m actually lost for words here because the story makes me feel so much but I haven’t been able to name it yet and maybe that’s okay. It’s the Tacky way of reaching deep down into my feelings and letting me sit with them.

I think this might be the only time I managed to guess the author when this was still anon (and, well. The genius artist too). Such intimacy and longing, gorgeous food and so many layers to the story.

I know that the infidelity tag might put some people off, but this is a stunningly written (devastating) Astoria PoV that absolutely clawed at my heart in the best possible way.

This fic makes me want to scream even though Vuk came back with a second part that patched up my broken heart. “I didn’t know how else to keep it” will forever be etched into my eyelids. Thank you, Vuk.

I really do wish that WHB was an actual dating sim in the visual novel sort of style. I feel people have misconceptions of characters but that's because so many can't get their cards and/or can't progress fast enough because we have to struggle through so many battles and resources. That and it feels out of order, like theses card stories seem separate from the main story but that's because I have to ASSUME, like we haven't met Beel or Levi yet. Then only S and L ranks have likeability progress, which means any devils lower than that have like nothing we can work off of, imagine your favorite devil just not having...anything.

I feel like if the PB people actually got rid of the combat and gacha nonsense, and made a legit visual novel they would have a better time and resources to poor into the actual story and not have to deal with restrictions when they can sell it as a game without splitting it between Erolabs and Googleplay/IOS. Then they could focus on fleshing characters and stories and better grammatical writing that doesn't look like Google Translator is being used. That way everyone can just pick and choose their route and king without RNG and spending money, and they could put some monetary options for additional/spicier bonuses that isn't also RNG.

IDK I did my best to read their explanations from people's emails, and I just don't beleive their words on the whole: "We're trying to focus on the story and writing!" Like...sorry your story isn't that great, and the translation is just the tip of that iceberg.

I'm not sure about how others feel about this, but I will continuously ALWAYS know that this would have been amazing as a visual novel otome. Granted, I do know that in that aspect they'd probably just have Ka-On be fem and that would take away the pronouns factor, but tbh when I play Male MC on Erolabs they still have it to where he's called "daughter" so... But narrowing it down to 7 routes, each route showcasing the nobles as side characters so we can have that "omg I wish this side character was dateable" moment, and then they'd throw in probably Satan as the OTP because he rescues them in the first place? They could easily charge the base of $60 for the game, and then for the spicy NSFW stuff perhaps a DLC package so you can unlock that too. And then cash in on focusing on merch items. BUT ALAS. Here we are. You know, translation-wise, I understand where the complaints are coming from on that. Hopefully, it's fixed over time. As far as the story goes, I feel that the L-card stories are better than the main. maybe because they are focused on the character? Because honestly, even the smut is turning out to be better than the H-scenes we get, and I feel those are truly geared more toward p2p folks because I imagine if you're trying to unlock everything as a f2p player it's going to take AGES if not months to unlock the unholy board fully. That's how it felt when unlocking the devil's tree in OM. I feel no gacha game is truly f2p friendly and some money must be spent (my opinion though, others are free to correct me if there is one that is) Someday I will have my NSFW visual novel....for now it shall just be something in my dreams ;.;

It may or may not have merits, depending on your perspective and interpretation. It is a fascinating topic to explore and discuss, but it is not a definitive or factual one. fgbhggbf hi omg you are great as a person. i have so many absurdly unpopular opinions about them 13. unpopular opinion about xxx charatacter mello there’s so much christian symbolism around mello that it’s hard to imagine there wasn’t some higher-level allusion being made to religion or devotion or obsession, but there’s not really any reason to believe that he is himself religious or even that those allusions are about christianity in particular rather than religions or cults in general. rosaries are not worn around the neck & although it’s kind of hard to imagine the rosary being highlighted at the time of his death means absolutely nothing, it is physically impossible for him to have actually been praying it because it must be held in the hand to do so. (christian symbolism is often used by buddhist or shinto cults in japan, so although ‘this christian symbolism is not referencing christianity’ seems kind of ludicrous from a non-japanese perspective there is cultural context here.)

near deeply unpopular opinion: he is light’s foil, not mello’s. he is a compliment to mello. he embodies everything light once was and still believes himself to be — a ‘a pure, affluent child’ in light’s slightly paraphrased words. he has a clarity of purpose and is willing to let people get hurt and die in service of it. he guards his own life at the expense of others because he believes (perhaps accurately) that he is more important to pursuit of their goal than they are, but also because he is terrified of being hurt or even being made uncomfortable. because of the immovable nature of their personalities, the difference between them is insurmountable but it’s also very thin; it’s like they’re looking at one another from across a vast canyon.
