Val and Ernie are my OTP, my ride or die, sink or swim.

Ernie only took notice of Valeria during fourth year.

He always knew of her, but he never knew her. All he knew was that she was pretty, and a Slytherin, and he figured that combination meant she wouldn't bother wasting her time with the likes of him.

The first time he noticed her — actually stopped, and sat, and took notice of her because everything he actually knew about her was based off assumptions he'd made based on previous interactions with Slytherins — it hadn't been some Great Event™ where time stood still while he watched her glide down the stone steps in her velvet gown for the Yule Ball (though when he had seen her for the Ball, his heart stuttered, and he forgot how to function his lungs for a good minute).

No, this had happened during what Ernie thought was going to be a normal Slytherin-Hufflepuff transfiguration lesson.

It was all theory that day. They were learning about... By Merlin, he couldn't remember.

Probably because he'd been partnered with her.

Or, more specifically, she'd partnered herself with him.

In an effort to strengthen house relations, Professor Sprout had suggested to all the teachers that they should implement more "teamwork" into their lessons.

Which was all well and good, only no one wanted to pair up with him.

It was no secret that Ernest Macmillan was well and truly the worst transfiguration student Hogwarts had ever seen. So, crestfallen, he watched as Althea joined Kieran Alvarez, and as Sue side eyed the Emerald Trio in contempt, before deciding Draco Malfoy had at least half a braincell to get her a passing grade.

And every other Slytherin avoided him like the plague.

And then, he was enveloped in the scent of perfume, subtle, beautiful. He looked up, curious, to find Valeria Rutherford, easing herself into the chair beside him, her bag dropping unceremoniously to the floor with a thud that might've been loud if the blood hadn't been rushing in his ears.

"I think you have the wrong seat," he managed to stammer out.

"No," she said, quite simply. She never looked at him. "I'm right where I need to be."

He struggled between openly staring, and avoiding even a glance her way the entire lesson. They worked in quite pleasant silence.

He was so nervous, he knocked over his inkwell, poor thing.

Val didn't say a word, she just handed him a monogrammed silk handkerchief from her breast pocket, and continued working.

His ears flamed, and he thought he'd pass out with embarrassment as he mopped up the ink.

No sooner had Professor McGonagall uttered her dismissal was Valeria Rutherford gone, the only indication that she hadn't been a dream being a scrap of ink soaked silk and that trace of perfume still lingering in the air.

He wouldn't shut up about her for days.

Sue had been ready to kill him after the first hour, but it took four days for Althea to crack.

Especially when he snuck into their room at five a.m., after having remembered something else about her he liked.

There was a lot.

And Ernie was observant.

"You know what else I like about Val? Her socks. Did you see them? They were velvet. Velvet socks! Who has velvet socks? Valeria does, that's who. Magical!" "ALTHEA, I SWEAR, IF YOU DON'T LET ME JINX HIM, AT LEAST LET ME GET ONE GOOD PUNCH." "Shh, go to sleep, I'll get you some earplugs tomorrow, Sue. Ernie... If you know what's good for you, leave before I find my wand."

But in spite of everything, Ernie couldn't get three words out to Valeria.

At least not without becoming a stuttering mess.

Sue and Althea — having rediscovered their better natures during their waking hours — were quite supportive of Ernie. Never pushed him to speak to Val, only gave him a subtle head's up she had entered the room so he wouldn't suddenly choke on his own tongue (you'd think that it would be quite impossible, having spent your whole life successfully avoiding it, but it happened so often to Ernie in Val's presence, the Hufflepunks developed a whole secret sign language to give him fair warning).

Val asked Ernie out first (officially).

Unofficially, Ernest Macmillan had attempted, and failed, to ask Valeria Rutherford out about fifty-eight times (Hannah had been keeping track; she shared a room with Sue and Althea, and was consequently privy to any and all declarations of love made at dawn).

He'd barely managed to stammer out the words "hello Valeria would you-?" (four words, a new record) before she smiled and said, "go to the Yule Ball with me."

It hadn't been a question.

Which was good, because Ernie wouldn't have been able to answer, he was rendered utterly speechless.

She stood, gave him a kiss on the cheek (he would later swear up and down the room that it had been the corner of his mouth, even though Althea, Sue, Hannah, and Justin had all been witness to the very chaste kiss. "Ern, it was closer to your ear." "Yeah, well, that's hot too!")

Ernie was the first one to kiss Valeria properly.

It had been the end of the night for the Yule Ball, and Ernie was walking Val back to the Slytherin common room.

Poor lad was so nervous, he was practically vibrating.

He attempted small talk, but the stutter was back. He cursed himself under his breath, he'd been doing so well that night, having managed to make it through without fucking up once, and now, there he was, dissolving in the echoey silence of the corridor. He hated the way his voice garbled and bounced around him against the stone.

He'd been so great earlier. He'd even managed to make Valeria laugh! And if he thought his crush was bad before, it was absolutely devastating now.

"This is me," she'd said. Her voice sounded nice in the echoey silence of the corridor, he decided.

"Are you sure?"

"Yes," she'd laughed again, and he was prepared to defenestrate himself, because no music would ever match that sound, and nothing would ever consume him so deliciously as the way she made him feel, looking at him with a small smile dancing across her lips.

"Are you sure it's not another lap around the castle?"

Her response was a light chuckle, and then she leaned in.

For a hug, he would realize too late, as he stuck out his hand awkwardly for a handshake.

Her movements faltered, and brief confusion was chased away by humour as she accepted his outstretched hand and gave it one firm shake.

"I'll see you tomorrow, yeah?" She'd grinned.

"Yeah," he'd choked out, ears aflame. No, he thought. You will never see me again because I'm about to take on the Whomping Willow in hand to hand combat.

He'd promptly spun on his heel and began writing his will in his head. To Althea, I leave my broomstick. Sue, she'll get my Chocolate Frog Card Collection—

Valeria had been halfway through the Slytherin password when Ernest Macmillan had returned.

She'd faltered, surprised, and suddenly his lips were on hers.

He was a good kisser, which always came as a surprise to people.

His chest was heaving when they broke apart, the thrill of her thrumming deep in his bones.

"Sorry," he heard himself say. He wasn't stammering any more. "I just wasn't going to let myself ruin tonight."

He then planted a gentle kiss to the back of her hand before leaving her there, a swagger in his step, and elation fogging his brain.

When he rounded the corner and disappeared from her sight, he'd broken into a sprint, whooping for joy. He'd even hugged Professor Sprout on his way back to the Hufflepuff common rooms. Through her laughter, she'd admonished him for running in the hallways, but he couldn't hear her, because he was on another plane of existence, because he'd kissed Valeria Rutherford, the most beautiful girl in the world, and she'd kissed him back.

Sue and Althea had stayed up for him this time.

Even Hannah had groggily pulled herself out of her slumber to hear about it.

And after he was done, dopey grin on his face, he fell back onto Althea's bed.

He realized he was wrong; there was one thing that could consume him as deliciously as the way she made him feel. It was her kiss.

Favourite thing about them: I went on and on abt this before but I love talking about it.. also I'm gonna mention multiple things bc I'm a loser who loves this idiot too much to stay on just one

I think its just how gentle and timid of a guy he comes off,which i don't see people talk abt much. Maybe its just me but he seems to be this very mellow polite guy when he's not worked up. Even walton(though walton has bias) describes how gentle and polite he is,and how he passionately helps Walton out teaching him academics. (Which he also does w Ernest, and tried w eliza he likes to share his knowledge)

And also,again,how passionately invested and fascinated he gets ,even if its his doom i think that more stems from the pressure he recieved and longing to meet the expectations of his family and professors. And sort of overworking himself to prove himself. He seems to have like, a thrist for knowledge and how the world works and that contrasts with a lot of characters who live more in the moment. Hes overall just. Someone I find is oddly relatable? I sympathize with even his flaws,its fascinating to see like,someone who obviously very deeply cares for the people around him,but falls short in his connection with them in favour of his pursuits which may or may not stem from his want of their approval. And acting on emotion in the moment and not realizing til its too late.

Least favourite thing about him:

AGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH u already know what I'm gonna say. I mentioned it like a post before,but theres that disgusting quote thats specifically in the 1831 version and its burned in my mind "every praise placed upon her i recieved as if to a possession of my own,no words can describe my relation to her,my more then sister,til death she was to be mine only" Its very period typical given its the 1700s and sort of expected granted how much Elizabeth was presented to him by his parents as his sole companion and a "gift". But its like a personal jab in the gut when I see it. And while I don't go by the interpretation that Victor and Elizabeth were truly interested in eachother and he was motivated mainly by fate and Caroline,its still undeniably gross and shows that he does have that misogynistic view that women can be regarded as ur own.

Favourite line: that one where hes contemplating death sort of in regards to Henry ,like "and where is this man now? With all his thoughts and ideas and love? Is he gone forever? No! He consoles his unhappy friend"(not an exact quote my memory isn't that precise rip) but firstly I find it very moving just how he talks abt Henry so caring. And it brings up an interesting thought. When people die,especially those we care about. What happens to all those wonderful thoughts and ideas and personality we know them for? Is their entire being just wiped from existence once they fall into nothing? Or do they live on either in memory and/or by afterlife?

brOTP:

He and his siblings seem to have very good relationships. Other than *that* icky icky line mentioned earlier he seems to have a very good relationship w Elizabeth,(I do NOT see it romantically good) ite mentioned how when Victor had a thirst for knowledge and Elizabeth had this admiration for the simple beauty of things,and this sort of difference brings them closer. They sort of grew up together and literally at one point only really knew eachother,so I imagine they are close and victor trusts to tell her a lot of stuff and vice versa. Ernest was mentioned to be his "star pupil". He likes to share his knowledge w em and he looks up to him for awhile. I think they both share an admiration for things like nature,though i think Victor would ramble Ernests ear off abt how it works. William isn't mentioned much but I reckon victors always there to answer his nagging questions like in the musical

OTP: u already know its Waltonstein and Clervalstein. Talked abt them a lot in two other posts already but- Walton and victor are so similar and lonely and I AaA. And Clerval and Victor have such a starking contrast that works so well and they care.so deeply abt eachother.

nOTP: Elizabeth and Victor. I live in utter ignorant denial everyday of its existence. Easy to make sense of why

Random Headcanon: my favorite headcsnon I've made of him is that he's an excellent artist and doodles to calm himself down,he also taught ernest how to draw.

Unpopular Opinion: i don't think he's the one true evil in the story,no one is,and i actually find him loveable and relatable even if he's a tragically flawed character. Which is relatively unpopular on its own but is starting to be otherwise i noticed.

I think there have to be a few, not that it did not happen but more along the lines that it did not happen the way it did. And I would say Jess has more of these feelings purely because he had a lot of things to handle on his own (or so he thought) and this sort of meant that he wasn’t always the best towards Rory...

Clearly yes, we have the A Year In Life so that whole thing is happening, but I would say there would be room for one more. And Jess would probably have some sort of a home office or something, but they would also have kids spend a lot of time w/ Lorelai and Luke 

Housing? Where do they live together?

I think they buy their own charming home in Star’s Hollow some time (?), but before that I would like to see them in an apartment in a big city just for a year or two

Pets? Do they get a pet together?

I think they would both leave it under a cup, or throw the cup away with the spider

Rory hums, Jess sings, sometimes the songs match up sometimes they mash.

Idk where Rory would learn to cook a gourmet meal :D but I would say Jess can whip up a fantastic breakfast (which Rory is already familiar with and it’s sort of a nostalgic practice to do this every weekend when they can’t go to Luke’s)

Who wakes up before the sun rises and who would sleep in until 2pm if they didn’t have an alarm?

I think Jess definitely wakes up before the sunrise. He sits out on the porch, probably reading or writing (or goes for an early walk with their dog). And then Rory wakes up and comes to join him with a cup of coffee, and I guess they talk about things and stuff :D

Who is more affectionate/touchy?

Is ti Jess? It would have to be Jess. 

Who wears the other’s hoodies/shirts?

Rory is a sweater/flannel shirt kidnapper. They mysteriously disappear only to reappear on her side of the wardrobe

Riaaaa I love them so much. I squeal from every cute thing that goes on between them, and AHHH they are so perfect for each other.

I mean that glimpse they gave us in Chat Blanc completely touched my heart.

Anyway, here are a few of the reasons I love them so much:

Marinette is the one friend Adrien needs. She's someone he loves to spend time with, and would do anything for his happiness. (As we save in Loveater. 💔)

She could help him deal with his father's constant neglect (and abuse) of Adrien, since she never experienced that herself. Adrien and Kagami would be disastrous in that aspect.

THEY RESPECT EACH OTHER'S BOUNDARIES (as Ladynoir). I can't emphasize how important that is. (I forgive Marinette's stalking because she outgrew it and matured.)

They accept and see each other for who they are: aliases or not.

They are so so perfect I can't not give them an A+.

Gavin x MC- B

Okay so I loveee Gavin, but the relationship between him and MC feels too one-sided for me. Like he's willing to do anything for her, but she's too oblivious to recognize that and do the same for him. Only now she's truly started to appreciate him, but all that lost time that she didn't isn't something I could easily forgive. I love Gavin, but he deserves someone who would give him just as much as he gives her.

Ernest x MC- A

My twin is hitting all my soft spotsss. Why???? XD

But anyway, you know how much I love Ernest. The thing is, he's always giving MC, and she never really gives him. Like I get that they're from Choices so of course it would be like that, but still. They're above Gavin x MC because Ernest x MC have a much cleaner history and are much more balanced. (In Gavin's relationship with MC he takes like 30% only, but in Ernest's relationship he would take like 45%. Almost equal.)

Basically, Gavin was always too nice to MC. (She literally saw him as some gangster and never gave him a chance.) Ernest and MC, though, slowly learned more about one another and were both willing to do a more-or-leas equal amount for one another.

Avery x Dawn (my MC)- AKA Dawnery- A+

Riaaaa you know my favorite pop-star and his girlfriend are my Choices OTP. They are so perfect for each other. 💖

So let's start with how Avery is always there for Dawn, from the start. Like he always treated her like an equal, even before she became famous. Avery teased her, but positively- always gave her compliments, and was always there for her when she needed help.

Avery really showed in Chapter 10 how important she was to him. When he heard his nomination, Dawn was the first person to hear of it. If she goes to the gala, she's literally the FIRST person he told about. And if she goes to Shane's event he still contacts her and offers her to celebrate with him, which proves he's willing to go out of the way for her. 😍

And then when he was willing to give up on his career for her so she won't be alone? And he was the person to start the Dawn support group. And he always let her remember how lucky he is, and that she's not the only one who's lucky.

And Dawn choosing Avery for the music video and the recording and the nomination really shows how she appreciates him.

They are so so balanced. Even if technically Avery gives Dawn more, it's to correct the misconception that she was the only lucky one, since she's dating Avery Wilshere. The way he calls her dazzling and beautiful and breathtaking, with all his sweet comments, make me melt. ❤

MC saved Beckett from loneliness, and he saved her countless times from more life-threatening dangers. With both their wits and talents combined, they truly are a power couple. 🙌

He deserves more love. ❤

Beckett x MC- A+

Beckett x MC were my Choices OTP before Dawnery joined the picture. They're really well-balanced, and THE TEASING. Beckett is always there for MC, and she's always there for him. She truly accepts him for who he is, and he in return always expresses how amazed he is that he has her (which she returns).

Yoosung x MC- E/F

I said it once and I will say it again-YOOSUNG DESERVED BETTER. He deserved someone who was understanding, someone who didn't judge him for his gaming. Someone who respected him, would be open to his interests and never act as if he wasn't good enough for her.

Yoosung deserved so much more than MC. In real life this relationship would be really toxic imho.

Don’t really give a damn much about celebrities other than a few I think are rather damn gorgeous. I couldn’t pick most of these YouTube celebrities out of a freaking lineup.

3. If you could live anywhere where would that be?

No where in particular really. There are places I want to visit like Japan and Europe, etc., but no where I would say is my dream place to live. Every place has it’s plus and minuses. I have more in the way of places I don’t want to live if anything.

4. Disney or DreamWorks?

Probably Disney if anything.

5. Favourite childhood TV show?

All about the cartoons mainly in my childhood. GI Joe, Tranformers, Thundercats, He-Man. Can pick any really. Also Dukes of Hazard, A-Team, Incredible Hulk and Knight Rider.

6. The movie you’re looking forward to most in 2020?

Can’t really say until more trailers come out. I looked up the list of movies expected and nothing really sticks out to me and some may not happen. If choosing one I would probably say Eternals since it’s Marvel and I don’t know much about them and Salma Hayek is in it. I’ll watch damn near anything with that woman in it. Wonder Woman is one since I enjoyed the first one and Gal Gadot….come on. I see Dune is being re-adapted so going to have to see some trailers.

7. Favourite book you read in 2019?

Shit. I have read 74 books this year so probably a few. If picking just one off of my Goodreads maybe I’ll go with Poor Man’s Fight by Elliott Kay. I was in a big sci-fi mood this year it would seem. 

8. Marvel or DC?

Both are fine with me. Marvel movies are, of course, great while DC comes out with great animated shows and has some decent ones on TV. 

9. If you choose Marvel favourite member of the X-Men? If you choose DC favourite Justice League member?

X-Men = Wolverine or Storm. 

Justice League = Batman

Night.

Don’t really care about Pokémon so no answer there. I know who Pikachu is but the rest? No damn clue.

Coffee. Tea is alright but coffee is nearly a daily regimen *laughs*

Had to look this up. Hell with that. I am choosing my own *laughs* Kaelivh and Nattai. Ying and yang. He’s rough around the edges and doesn’t care if anyone knows it or how they feels. She’s loving and kindhearted. She brings a calm to the storm that sometimes rages inside of him and he brings a fire inside of her she can’t ignore. Helps I’ve been roleplaying and knowing the player of Nattai for over ten years.

Nope but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.
