Before I even get started, the main thing I want everyone to take from any of this is to SLOW THE F*$& DOWN. It’s a guarantee that anything you try to start &/or accomplish between July 25 and September 9 will be revisited, when Mars is retrograde - and then, re-revisited, after Mars stations direct.

My #1 source for Rx Zone issues, Martin Bulgerin (www dot biopscinst dot com), has this to say about Mars retrograde:

During Mars retrograde periods, we get to experience how we sabotage our own actions, preventing us from achieving what we desire to do. The ability to express your will-power seems thwarted. The key here is to discover what is keeping you from effective action and changing it. This inner nemesis may be an over active temper, an impatience with planning when you can rush into activity, or simply a lack of awareness that causes you to ignore useful clues. This is not a good time to initiate new projects that require perseverence, nor is it easy to work with others during this cycle.

In a perfect world, we took to heart all the lessons about effective Mars expression, back when Mars was in Pisces. We learned how to be more of a Zen master than a trigger-happy soldier. Unfortunately, this is 2020. As if it isn’t bad enough to have Mars Rx in his own sign, DURING AN ELECTION YEAR IN THE US, we have a series of difficult aspects which transiting Mars is going to “do” three times each: Mars will square Pallas Athene, Jupiter, Saturn, and Pluto, three times each; Mars will also conjunct Eris/Aries three times.

Anyway, here we are in the pre-Rx zone. Issues that we’re going to have to deal with, during the time Mars is actually retrograde, will begin to crop up. Ms M has a strong natal Mars and has seen the writing on the wall, so to speak, for a few days now. I suggest that, if you’re also the possessor of a strong natal Mars (or Aries or Scorpio, or the 1st or 8th Houses), make notes on your planner about issues that crop up. Date and time, like that.

I haven’t gone into detail about the aspects of a planet, in quite some time. If I were you, I would pay attention to the transiting aspects that you may have in your natal chart. For example, I have natal Mars square natal Pallas Athene; I’m going to feel that set of squares very strongly.

You may also want to pay attention to any of the aspects that will trigger something in your own chart, regardless of whether or not you have it natally. The Mars-Saturn square on August 24, for example, will ding my natal Mercury/Gemini.

Finally: a few hours after Mars enters his Rx Zone (03:50 UT on Sunday, July 26), the Moon transiting Libra will oppose him. If we’re awake and aware, we should definitely feel this thing beginning to ratchet up.

Monday, July 27, 21:46 UT - Mercury/Cancer square Mars/Aries, 16:20

Third of three. This is the first non-lunar aspect Mars makes, and sets the tone for the whole experience. From Merc’s point of view, Mars is insensitive, cruel, and selfish; from Mars’ point of view, Merc whines too much and never wants to stand up for itself. My suspicion is that Mars is going to pick up on something unresolved from the recent Mercury Rx (some perceived insecurity), and run with it. Be smarter than that.

Wednesday, July 29, 05:02 UT - Pallas Athene Rx/Capricorn square Mars/Aries, 16:51

First of three. You never like to see the warrior squabbling with the master strategist. Pallas Athene is telling Mars to follow procedures, perhaps, and Mars just wants to trash everything with his sword. Again, this may “just” manifest as some issue we’ll have to face more thoroughly during Mars’ retrograde.

First of three. If I were telling a story (and I kind of am), it’s almost like Mars didn’t like the orders he got from Captain Pallas Athene, so he’s protesting up to General Jupiter. Which I don’t think is “done” in the Army! We could get carried away and overconfident; we may consent to take on some project that is way, way over our heads and/or our paygrades.

Thursday, August 6, 07:30 UT - Neptune Rx/Pisces semi-sextile Mars/Aries, 20:28

First of three. Much of the reason for the typical Martian bravado and belligerence can be found in the fact that the sign which precedes it, in the Zodiac, is Pisces. Mars/Aries is a reaction to Neptune/Pisces. Mars is essentially trying to banish, or at least cover up, what it perceives as all the Neptunian insecurity. A very subtle situation arises where the two different fighting styles are contrasted. Take good notes.

Placements affected lie between 19:28 and 21:28 of all signs. You’ll probably feel that one of these planets is helping you, and the other is hindering you.

Thursday, August 13, 07:13 UT - Pluto Rx/Capricorn square Mars/Aries, 23:05; Friday, August 14, 19:40 UT - Ceres Rx/Pisces (8:35) semi-square Mars/Aries (23:35)

First of three, for both of them. Mars is beginning to slow down considerably, giving us this sort of “two-fer” situation to deal with. We all know the mythology between Ceres and Pluto, right? Here, Pluto is the strict, traditional husband; while Ceres is the anxious, overprotective mom. Now here comes Mars, spoiling for a fight. Whatever arises from this, it should be easier to separate the issues during Mars’ retrograde, and address them more appropriately.

I honestly looked at this situation and thought, “Hubris.” The braggadocio levels are off the charts. I’m thinking about all these so-called “militia” types we have in the US, the bunch of ugly idiots brandishing their guns all the time. And you know what’s really unsettling? August 17 is the beginning of the Democratic National Convention. Expect clown cars, I guess.

Placements affected lie between 23:09 and 25:29 of all signs. Planets in yang signs (Aries, Gemini, Leo, Libra, Sagittarius, Aquarius) will get more of a positive “boost” out of this, i.e., easier to express the energies.

First of three. The trine between the South Node and Mars makes it easy for us to “act up” in ways that have worked for us in the past. And in ways we’ve enjoyed acting up. However, we’re supposed to be going toward the North Node! We have opportunities here to “trade notes” and compare experiences with other people. There are smarter ways to get what we want. And we don’t have to fight all alone.

In case you were wondering, this is the week scheduled (as of July 24) for the Republican National Convention. Remember that astrological cliche about how Mars is the gas pedal and Saturn is the brakes? Maybe Mercury can be the backseat driver, snarking out unhelpful instructions?! (This is also when my school district plans on opening schools back up.) There is some absolutely infuriating situation which may be too impossible to extract ourselves from. Alas for us, the revisit of Mars-Saturn, during the retrograde (Sept 23-24), will feature Merc in Libra opposing Mars and squaring Saturn. (However, for the third and final Mars-Saturn square, Merc is otherwise occupied.)

The final “situation” before Mars stations retrograde sees all the personal planets ganging up on Mars. (The Moon will be conjunct Mars on Sept. 5-6.) This is where Mars has to face facts - the old ways aren’t working any more. Venus is cutting him off, the Sun is backing up Venus (and being snarky about it to both parties), and Mercury is detailing all the ways he’s being ineffective. In the US at least there’s a long holiday weekend for Mars to contemplate all this.

[Below Cut: A lil bit more on Choi Seungcheol’s Natal Chart ✨ ]

Note: This is an abridged version, a little more censored about the private stuff in his natal chart. ❤️ I give/take around 8.30am, 9am, 9.30am for this one ❤️ I decided to use Whole Signs to get a clearer look ✨ It’s just my thoughts/opinions so please read with discretion! ❤️ This is just to maybe hopefully add a little more to the Seungcheol Overview I did earlier ✨

Definitely the first thing we all noticed was that the rising could probably fall between Libra /Virgo ❤️ And isn’t that just so?? fitting for scoups?? ❤️ I think I cried seeing his talent triangles (his tiny trine and 2 sextiles) – Pluto rx (Scorpio) Uranus/Neptune rx (Capricorn) and Saturn rx (Pisces).

And the other one with Mars (Libra) Jupiter (Sagittarius) and Sun/Venus (Leo)

The one thing that got to me was his Pluto rx (Scorpio) and Uranus rx (Capricorn) exactly at 27′49 (so 0′00) — so much power, intensity and transformative power. Strong desire, no matter what house it’s actually in.

When it’s in a talent triangle (with all retrogrades) that’s a lot of self-transformation, regeneration and assertion in one’s strength– to come through as a talent, foundation, and ability to use his own empowerment (through hardship/challenges) to connect and bring changes to people around him as well.

With retrograde, there’s a lot of energy that’s spinning inwards (towards the person). Internalized energy is common, especially with Saturn (choosing to put on a brave face, hiding fear of uncertainty. Of not making ‘the right choice’ – guilt and doubt associated to the this) Uranus/Neptune (restlessness, suspicion of others, wanting to rebel but also abiding/hiding to look like the norm) and Pluto (fear of manipulation, of vulnerability. Fear of betrayal or looking ‘weak’)

With all of that in his talent triangle, it makes sense that whilst those are part of his strength— but it also has potential to heal, become balanced and understood. One of the thing that stood out immediately was his Chiron/Ceres being pretty close to the ASC.

Chiron and Ceres being close to his ASC (whether it falls in Libra/Virgo) – points to potential for someone who may strongly identify with healing of others (after understanding their own pains) lots of dedication and nurturing, also being nurtured by others (it can also indicate food and fashion, organizing and managing other’s life, giving advice and caring about their health/how they look physically – as indicated by Virgo Ceres)

Ceres and Chiron in 12H or 1H– whether it’s conjunct to the ASC or not– can also indicate a person’s conscious awareness (or addiction) to their own well-being, their physicality (behaviorally, how they treat themselves). With Virgo as an earth and mutable sign, it’s nature combined with Chiron/Ceres can make someone feel/think a lot of their self-consciousness. Bringing an emphasis on their health, mental well-being, services to others (which they’ll have to struggle and work through– as indicated by Chiron, in order to bring it to the fore-front and help/heal others as well)

It plays a significant role on the person’s behavioral pattern, their mentality and how they’re perceived, as well as how they see themselves. There’s a lot of service, ‘giving back’ nature when it’s in the 12H/1H. In embodying this health (or personal mental well-being/strength) or spiritually healing/giving to others with it— scoups’s asc (no matter whether it’s Virgo/Libra) will also show signs of this demonstrative, practical ‘giving back’ nature as well.

It’s so cool to see this– because Ceres can often indicate reactivity. Whether it’s spiritually or up-front, it wants to be nurtured and likes being taken care of.

There’s a shy subtle side to Virgo Ceres/Chiron — where on one hand they do want to be acknowledged/subtly taking care of others. Yet on the other hand they may sometimes not speak, or ask for the things they truly want/need. Because their internal energy is through demonstration—so a lot of people with these aspects (especially in these houses) may often show that they want this/that. But won’t ask for it/expects others to read and understand their gestures for something.

His Sun and Jupiter being in domicile, while Mars lies in detriment within the other talent triangle– gives power to his self-assertion, energy, knowledge and wisdom to shine through. Libra Mars may be in detriment (whether it’s in 1H or 2H) – but the emphasis here is that he may be able to learn, grow and let others lead if he knows he’s being slightly too dogmatic/forceful at a given time (context).

It makes more sense to look at them together, his Libra Mars (1H/2H) would point to areas in the house where he’ll have to ‘let up on’, instead of using his Sun/Jupiter to ‘guard’ against others for (lessons in personal vs others, letting others into their personal– shifting/adapting what’s ‘theirs’ into ‘ours’— houses in 1H/12H, 11H or 3H/4H)

Traditional values runs strong, especially what’s learnt at the beginning/childhood and what was nurtured/taught to him to value (boundaries). He may guard it fiercely, but within that. The talent triangle might teach him how to grow/learn and make the best of it by using it differently.

Evaluate his own identity/self-assertion, his appearance (keeping an image) financial/material assets that he may be possessive over (has to do with self-identity and kinda…the fear of having that autonomy/things associated to his personal well-fare/being taken away from him)— these can point to his Libra Mars protecting/guarding itself by being irrational, clingy/possessive or what we might call “selfish”– over those areas (wanting to be ‘fair/just’ to itself– but within that, wanting to ‘share’ itself/good-will with others)

Sun/Jupiter could be in 11H/3H or 12H/4H. There’s a generous nature to both Leo and Sagittarius. Giving and caring. It may be nobby heads most of the time, but within the 11H or 12H (for his Sun) – there’s a compassionate nature that could appease this Libra Mars.

Helping him learn how to heal, give and share himself with others. This is like a ‘gate’ – and then Jupiter in 3H/4H may need a little abit more explaining. Jupiter ultimately wants the best things for the ‘family, siblings, roots and traditions’.

Although the concept or idea of these things can be static/stagnant on what’s considered��‘family, siblings, roots, values, tradition’ – there’s ultimately a highlighted expansive nature to Jupiter.

What’s considered his ‘roots, siblings, families, traditions’ can benefit a lot depending on how he grew up surrounded by (what’s considered those things). Jupiter can share, protect, guide (‘let up’) and be generous with those it identifies with, grew up alongside. It becomes proud and protective, over those they care about and shares itself to.

Good-will is prominent in this other talent triangle, but seeing his placements possibly being in 11H/12H (Sun/Venus/Pallas/Vesta/Mercury) – especially with Sun/Venus conjunct (4′) really makes me happy because he’s such a genuinely good-willed, sometimes protective but also very nurture/wanting to be nurtured–progressively healing and half the time, a self-sacrificing/self-assertive dichotomy of an individual.

It’s also genuinely nice to see how Aquarius Pars Fortunae could potentially be in 5H/6H. Health is a thing with Seungcheol— particularly if he needs to control/use it well in order to manifest that Chiron/Ceres ASC stuff properly (looking out/after himself). Aquarius Pars Fortunae talks about a little more refinement, particularly on the personal areas (how they treat/think of themselves and thus– how they exert/show it to the world). When their fortune comes flooding through, it has to do with how structured, progressive, refining and adaptable they are.

This also helps in cutting back on Moon in detriment (Capricorn), dissecting and refining his ego/self and thoughts about what/how he should manifest. If he can use some of the Aquarius’s realigning, some re-thinking/shaping and not let his Leo/Capricorn sun-moon control his ego/emotions– he would benefit a lot from his health improving, and having an easier time being independent/stable away from extremities/bad behavioral habits or core prejudice (coming from the roots/traditions) as well.

Alot of health and taking care of himself stuff for Seungcheol ❤️ But potentially it’ll be good on cutting down and helping that retrograde triangle as well ❤️ While there may be a lot of ‘strength’– there’s also a lot that talks about self-healing, self-regeneration and we shouldn’t forget about that especially w/ own Pluto/Chiron as well ❤️

Bayonetta Should Not Have Been in Smash Ever

The whole point of Bayonetta is that she whips out these crazy combos and super strong witch tricks to defeat her opponents. The only problem is...barely anyone else can do that because they’re not supposed to because it’s Smash Bros and not Street Fighter. There was no way to nerf Bayonetta without ruining her, and there was no way to keep the Bayonetta feel and style without her dominating the game.

Cloud Should Not Have Been in Smash Ever

He was too fast, he was too strong, he had a projectile. Sakurai specifically said he knew Ike had exactly these stats when Ike was added to Brawl in 2008. He intentionally left them out so as to not let Ike become too strong. But years later, Cloud strutted into Super Smash Bros. for Wii U/3DS with these same attributes anyway. He’s a lot more tame now, but how many Peaches had to die?

The Zelda Characters Got the Short End of the Stick

A game with 30 years of history does not deserve to be represented by three Links, two Zeldas, and one Ganondorf. It’s clear that the development team was banking on the games sticking to its Ocarina formula, which is why they tried so hard to keep all the designs from one game and didn’t introduce anyone who wasn’t a Triforce bearer. By the time they finally stumbled on the idea of giving characters designs from different games, they had run out of space for any newcomers specific to particular games in the series, and the potential for new characters had run out.

I’m aware that Zelda isn’t as popular in Japan as it is in the United States; however, seeing how big Super Smash Bros. and its audience is, I think its representation could be a little better than that.

This pick feels like an impulse because of the fact that FE14 was new, but besides that, I (a salty Peach main and Bandana Dee fan) first thought the character was busted. Never before had we a character with such ridiculous range—I thought Shulk’s energy sword Sunday was pushing it. It looks like Corrin set a precedent, though, because tall, adult characters who can reach across the entire stage seem to be the norm nowadays.

The Mario Characters are Out of Character

I think it’s telling when you can’t convey the character of Mario properly. Mario in Smash rather quickly moved away from his friendly everyman balancedness to a very aggressive, very angery Man who apparently just beats the living daylights out of people as the Smash Ultimate music blares in the background. Mario in his games is so much more friendly, eccentric, comical, fun. Smash Mario is way too serious; he doesn’t even smile in his renders anymore. I know, it’s a fighting game; you have to be serious to some extent. I just find this a little odd considering, um...

Peach was pretty similar when she first came to Melee. But when Brawl came around, her headbutt was replaced with hearts, her explosions with hearts, her diplomatic walk with a ditzy skip—it’s all incredibly suspicious. I talked about this before, but I think Smash makes Peach look dumb. I feel like it tries too hard to appeal to the girl who couldn’t pick any of the boy characters because they were icky so she picked the prettiest, girliest girl and that’s Peach. Her character feels like it’s making a mockery of her. (I mean, who remembers the tea time? I remember the tea time.) Nearly all of the nuance in Peach’s character is gone; I like the Toads and it feels like she’s commanding an army, but she herself with the rainbows and the hearts...I don’t know. It makes me. Uncomfortable. Peach has displayed far more competence before; she’s a very intelligent individual, but in Smash it’s not showing.

If I thought Peach was bad, imagine how I feel about Daisy! They barely changed a couple of animations and visuals but no attributes. It feels cheap and lazy and even though she’s an echo fighter, other “clones” had at least a little more thought put into them. And no “Hi, I’m Daisy”??? Preposterous. I think it goes to show that you really can’t make a clone of Peach because her moveset is too unique, and tinkering with it makes it fall apart. I think this was a bad call.

Bowser Jr. seems fine. He’s just a kid with some toys and it shows. Bowser...can at least walk straight, nowadays. But...

Luigi Baby I’m So Sorry That a Ugly Ass Bitch Would Even Do That

So when Smash 64 came out in 1999, Luigi had had his own voice for 3 years. Smash had decided to take Mario’s voice clips and pitch them up instead. This didn’t change until Brawl.

Luigi is Mario’s taller, slippery-er, eccentric younger brother, and Smash played the eccentric up to 11. (I mean, who remembers the Negative Zone? I remember the Negative Zone.) The hip bumps? And the weird dances? And the being able to fall over and be so round that he can just roll back up? I’ve never seen him do that anywhere but Smash. I don’t know who that is with the green hat in Smash. But it’s not Luigi.

The great thing is that he plays like Luigi! But he sure doesn’t act like it. And neither does Mario. And Mario and Luigi don’t play off each other at all, either. They’re so awkward to put together in this game; it’s like an attack on the sibling family unit.

“We Made Up Lore About EarthBound Hoping No One Would Notice Also We Really Like Pollyanna and the First Eight Melodies and We Exclusively Reference Mother 1 But We Still Won’t Put Ninten in This Game”

Ness is supposed to have defensive and support PSI because he has the highest physical offensive stats—and the lowest IQ—in EarthBound. He can’t use PK Starstorm, or PK Fire, or PK Thunder. He can use PSI Shield and Brainshock and Paralysis and um, PSI Rockin, and though I don’t mind using Ness and Lucas as they are now, I still can’t help but notice how inaccuracy-laden all the EarthBound references were, and that a moveset focused around trapping an opponent to go in for the beat down intrigues me.

Listen, no one else in this game has made-up lore about how their friends taught them certain moves after the end of their game, and how they channeled their big finisher into smaller bursts of energy while taking on the friend’s (much weaker!) signature move as their Final Smash. You could probably explain the magic Zelda uses as they come in crystals anyone could theoretically use, but the framing that they use for Ness and Lucas? It’s pretty silly.

Okay, about Ninten...he doesn’t have to be in Smash. But what’s the point of saying “Mother (Series)” and then making this weird conglomerate of ideas that doesn’t actually get the point across? All three games communicate very different ideas, but hardly any of what’s in Smash portrays any of it very well.

For all the crap I give Peach’s Final Smash, at least it’s different. Oh, there’s a new kind now: the We Stole Snake’s After We Thought He Was Never Coming Back And Oh God He’s Here. Oh No He’s Back. He’s Angry Oh N-

Okay so Jigglypuff was OD’ing in Melee. But insta-death shield break just doesn’t tell me you care about them!

Speaking of Caring About Kirby

I see y’all only putting Kirby’s Adventure and Kirby Super Star content in your game. Look, whoever made Kirby 64 and friends disappeared the same year Sakurai left HAL Laboratory. The new Kirby games acknowledge all of Kirby’s history, and they take many cues from Smash. Smash is a big game, but the least it could do was reciprocate some of that.

The Music Selection is Underwhelming Me So Far

And it’s not the sheer number; I think that’s incredible. My problem is many of the songs are remixes with multiple versions. There are multiple versions of Light Plane from Pilotwings, multiple versions of Magicant, multiple Ballads of the Goddess, a billion Mario Main Themes. There are so many different musicians arranging for these games; are they all sitting there thinking “I’ll do you one better!!” making the same songs again? Some series have one song being remixed over and over while the rest of the soundtrack is just ripped from the original and chucked into the game. Other songs are just weak, which I expect, but they’re just so...mild.

The original music in Smash Ultimate I think is also pretty weak. It’s the same problem Brawl ran into and the only difference is the Ultimate themes are better orchestrated. The arrangement became stale to me and I think it’s because the game is so big that it couldn’t tie itself together as neatly as Smash 64 could (although only one, maybe two people worked on Smash 64’s music).

Stage Hazards

I don’t remember if it’s possible to turn them off but I am tired of the goddamn Flying Man.

Silverleaf 5: The Sprinkle Mystery

Her hair dallied on the edge of what was allowed at Silverleaf, and Chibiusa took a point of pride in that. Ms. Meioh had peeked over her glasses in an amused sort of way as Chibiusa sat there, declaring that her hair was, in fact, dyed strawberry blonde, and not pink, and so was a natural color and completely allowed at the Silverleaf School for Girls.

Chibiusa had half-held her breath, watching her think. Most girls never got to this point at Silverleaf, their parents long having schooled them on the nature of propriety, whether they personally enjoyed it or not.

Frankly, Chibiusa would have loved to have her parents yell at her. It would have meant they knew what she was doing, and that she was there. But no matter how she rolled her skirt, or the color of her hair, or the number of buttons she undid on her blouse, the only attention she got for any of it was at the desk of Ms. Meioh.

She threw her hair up into her twin pigtails, again, discouraged but not disallowed (In many ways, Chibiusa felt this summed up the whole of her existence) and picked up her bag, walking to the bus stop.

The school was at the east edge of the city, the sheer amount of open green space on the campus a testament to the wealth of those who’d founded it, and those who stayed there presently. Originally a finishing school of sorts, Silverleaf had defined itself with academic rigor, to keep the children of science and technology geniuses coming in, while still holding to the altogether stifling feel of being molded and manicured like some shrub made into the shape of a hippo.

Clipped.

But this was more negative than Chibiusa generally cared to be, her moods generally somewhere between joy and indignation, with little time in the middle, and, in any case, it wasn’t as if she could do anything about the circumstances of her birth, and her classes weren’t all bad.

Art had always been a favorite of hers, and her teacher had said she wasn’t entirely untalented in the realm of painting, which went as high praise in Silverleaf. Ms. Aino’s class was always fun, or exactly as much fun as Silverleaf let it be before Ms. Aino was dragged into the Board of Trustees by her ear. The new gym teacher, Ms. Tenoh (who had the girls call her Haruka until she had ended up next to Ms. Aino in the Board meeting) seemed nice, although she obviously had no clue how to deal with girls who’d usually had private instruction in tennis or ice skating or any number of things, and she always had granola bars for anyone who was hungry before class.

All things told, Chibiusa Purisesu was well aware that her life could be worse. She wasn’t a stupid girl. She had her group of friends, who loved her even if they were occasionally a little out of touch. It just seemed like something was missing, and Chibiusa had assumed it was her parents’ attentions for so long that she could not conceive it might be anything else.

“Hey! Chibs!” The shout came across the grass and she ran toward Chibiusa.

Chibiusa smile and waved. “Hi, Palla. You finish that article you were working on?”

“Yeah but,” Palla scowled, “still think Ms. Hino’s gonna hate it. Or tell me to redo it.”

Chibiusa grinned. “Would it even BE Ms. Hino’s class if she didn’t question your,” Chibiusa put her hands on her hips, and growled, “commitment to serious journalism! The only defense of a free people!”

Chibiusa and Palla laughed, and opened the door to the school.

She’s probably dating Palla, Hotaru thought, the first part of an argument inside her head as she watched the two of them laugh together.

No, she’s probably not even gay.

Are you kidding? EVERYONE at Silverleaf is some kind of gay.

That’s statistically impossible, Hotaru, Dad taught us better than that.

Ugh, thanks for reminding me about my meeting with Ms. Tenoh today, too.

Ms. Tenoh was nice enough, and tried, it seemed to Hotaru, to be encouraging, but encouraging wasn’t going to make Hotaru an athlete any more than you could encourage a fish to walk on dry land.

She heard Chibiusa’s voice echo down the hallway, and she tried not to follow too close, tried not to admire the way she always smelled faintly of animal crackers***. Something sweet and vanilla and home.

She rolled her eyes at herself as she turned down the hall toward the gym, pointedly ignoring the brightness of Chibiusa’s laugh.

Ms. Tenoh was sitting in her small office, right inside the locker room, dressed in a navy blue jacket and light chambray shirt for Health day. Her tie was something that managed to be both ostentatious and lovely, silk with black lined flowers in random arrangement, covered in soft watercolor pinks and blues.

She might have been a picture for those girls at school who fidgeted in their skirts, the ones who always wore the dress tie, something for them to look at and aspire to, and know that it was possible.

This might have been more convincing if she wasn’t blushing heavily as she held a still-packaged condom in her hand, staring at it as if unraveling the mysteries of the universe.

“Ms. Tenoh?”

She jumped in her chair, dropping the condom and looked up at Hotaru.

“You wanted to see me before school?” Hotaru hoped, in some way, that it had all been a mistake, that Ms. Tenoh hadn’t needed to speak to her at all. She hadn’t seemed upset when she asked Hotaru to come in, but Hotaru knew she wasn’t any good at her class. She was slower than everyone, and weaker than everyone, and longed to go back to Chemistry and Poetry and all the things that weren’t stupid.

Ms. Tenoh smiled and waved her in, leaning back long in her chair and shutting the door.

“You can call me Haruka in here. Technically it’s not school yet.” She winked. “Sit down.”

Hotaru smoothed her skirt and sat uneasily across from Ms. Tenoh, thinking of all the places she’d rather be.

“I know I didn’t do very well on the rope the other day…”

“Yeah, that’s why I wanted to talk to you,” Haruka popped back a little in her chair, and Hotaru sighed waiting for the things she’d already been told a thousand times before, “I’m worried you--”

Hotaru shook her head. “I was really sick when I was younger, and I’m still kind of recovering, I can bring in a doctor’s no--”

Ms. Tenoh held up her hand. “That’s not what I mean. I know. I’m worried you’re getting discouraged.”

Getting, Hotaru thought sarcastically.

“But I want you to know I think you can make a lot of strides this year, Hotaru, I saw you last week getting upset, and I just want you to be competing with you,” she leaned forward, hands on her knees, “I think you can do a lot.”

She remembered the thought she had considered quite poetic, earlier. “It’s like asking a fish to be on land.”

Ms. Tenoh popped back again, crossing her ankle across her knee. “You know there’s these fish, called mudskippers. I saw them on National Geographic--sometimes me and Mouse, that’s my cat, we watch National Geographic together, and I get takeout and a strawberita, and go to the pet store and get a little tiny wet food treat and some at wine for him, we make a night of it--”

Hotaru remembered the first day of school, when girls had giggled and whispered over the handsome new gym teacher, and how they’d heard she rode a motorcycle, and they swore they could hear music when she walked down the halls, and she was SO COOL. One girl had said she swore the light in the gym almost looked like watercolor painting when she strode in.

If she needed any more proof that her peers were idiots, she had it in front of her now.

“--anyway, mudskippers are fish that crawl around on land, between ponds and stuff. They’re still fish. They’re not as fast as like, snakes or something made for the land. But they do a really good job for a fish.” She smiled at Hotaru. “That’s all I’m saying. You don’t have to be an athlete. I want you to do good for a fish. Don’t compare yourself to like…Jun. Jun could outrun me easy at this point, and I was once fast tracked for the Olympic team. Jun could outrun all of us.”

“Once?” Hotaru looked at her, studying.

Haruka flicked her knee and offered a smile. “It was a long time ago. Anyway, what I mean to say is, keep your chin up, and, keep working, and, you know…”

Hotaru just stared at her.

“I’m bad at conclusions, go to school. Take a granola bar.”

Hotaru left the locker room, happy to be relieved of the situation, and mildly surprised at how reassured she felt. She had never been particularly athletic, and there was some comfort in the fact that Ms. Tenoh did not seem to expect her to be, just to try.

She didn’t want to try, either, but there was something about Ms. Tenoh’s enthusiasm for her that made it tough to reject out of hand.

She glanced up at the clock, students milling in to begin their day. Twenty minutes to class. Enough to head to the coffee and tea bar, if she wanted to. Her dad had given her some extra money, always worried she might not fit in with all the fifteen year old girls with black cards in their Keroppi wallets.

As if on cue, Cere walked by her, a cloud of Chanel No.5 in her wake, her large pink leather bag hanging off her shoulder. Easily the richest of Chibiusa’s extremely wealthy crew, there was something about her that always seemed a little untouchable, her nose a little higher in the air, even in a school like this one.

Chibiusa was never like that, or, at least, it never seemed that way to Hotaru. She always smiled at Hotaru in the hallways, and let her borrow pencils in class, and it would be easy to forget that she was the daughter of a major politician. She certainly seemed to forget it, many teachers would say.

Chibiusa was sitting with Palla and Ves at one of the small tables in the cafe, and waved her arm broadly, asking Hotaru to come over.

Hotaru froze in place, her entire body stiffening. What was she going to say? In class, things were easy: I hate playing basketball, do you have a pencil, want to be my lab partner? The last one, maybe only in her fantasies, but it was at least plausible. This--

Then Cere moved next to her, crossing with a tea in her hand, and Hotaru realized that she’d been motioning to Cere the whole time, the relief and disappointment washing over her dramatically.

Sakiko walked up to her and put her hand on her shoulder. “Pining after Chibiusa again?”

“I am not!” Hotaru burst out, more vehemently than she intended to.

“Hotaru, I can see the future. I knew this would happen.” Sakiko grinned and pulled Hotaru into line with her.

“No, you can’t, Saki.”

Sakiko gestured widely. “Your mind is laid bare to me, Hotaru Tomo-

“Perhaps, with your otherworldly powers, you might predict how long it will take you to order a beverage, Sakiko.” Hotaru recognized the fierce calm of the orchestra teacher’s voice immediately.

Sakiko whirled around to face Ms. Kaioh. “Good morning, Ms. Kaioh! I was just--”

Ms. Kaioh smiled. “Tormenting my second viola, yes, I’m well aware of the inner workings of the teenage crowd. Hotaru, I trust this will not affect your performance in class too terribly much.” She spoke past the two girls. “Jasmine tea, if you please, and a frozen mocha with extra whipped cream and chocolate sprinkles.” she nodded to them. “Ladies.”

Sakiko whispered to Hotaru. “What’s she drinking a frozen mocha for?”

Hotaru just shrugged.

Weekly Forecast: August 25 – 31, 2019

8/26 ~ Venus (love, finances & relationships) ~trine~ Uranus (freedom & liberation):

This energy is likely to bring a little excitement into your life, one way or another. It is a good time to do something different, try something new & consciously put your Self in situations where you have to improvise or think on your feet. We are in times of breaking old patterns and re-setting them in more positive, effective ways. You can still live your true values & priorities, but in a new & different way going forward. This blessing from the Cosmos allows you to align with more personal integrity & authenticity, which in turn is infused into all that you love & treasure. Relationships will have an unusual energy to them. An established relationship may sparkle with some extra “spice” or a new relationship begun under this energy may be stimulating & unusual but probably short-lived too. This is not necessarily a bad thing! It’s actually perfect for experimenting with new ideas & expressions to see what your Heart aligns really with and responds to. Use this energy to soak up some good energy & rare wisdom from those who are different from you, individually unique and live a little off-the-grid of your normal day-to-day.

8/26 ~ Pallas Enters SCORPIO (Aug 26 – Nov 8, 2019):

Pallas finishes a 10-month journey through Libra activating an awareness of the wisdom of balance, integration and general cohesiveness that comes from reconciling opposites – within or around you. We have had our perception of relationships, family, friendships or community shifted during this time and thus, we have access to other perspectives now that broaden our sense of kinship with others. We have made some life-changing adjustments in the relationship department over that time as well (Nov 2018 – Aug 2019). You may notice that we were also dealing with the Venus Retrograde in Libra/Scorpio during the last quarter of 2018 so, having Pallas linger in the Libra department, has extended our process of releasing imbalanced, toxic relationships or partnerships. We’ve also healed some relationships that will now be stronger than ever, which will allow us to get more accomplished when we are in-alignment with our support team.

Now, this Aug 2019, as she moves into Scorpio for a normal 2-month stay, is still very special because we are coming out “clean on the other side” in a way that Pallas traveling through Scorpio will activate your *prismatic perspective* on your true, individual power and your creative potential. Now that we’ve cleared some karmic and emotional debris over the last year or so, how can we create a life, or world, that channels power responsibly and co-creates with the Garden of Life that we are! According to Asteroid Goddesses by Demetra George & Douglas Bloch, Pallas “describes how we face the issues of learning, creativity, the arts, politics, healing, alienation from relationships, competition, and the fear of success”. So I believe, that as she moves through Scorpio, we will tend to the Soul Level, meaning we will add soul to all that we create, heal or learn. It’s a powerful re-set that will give you access to your own unique wisdom & power. Also, keep in mind, Scorpio brings the conception, Sag will expand the creation in a spiritual way and then Capricorn will ask you to make it real, give it form & structure or a foundation to exist upon … then you can go forward in Aquarius to serve humanity in some way 😉

8/28 ~ Mars (courage & passion) ~trine~ Uranus (freedom & individuality):

This is a powerful combo, however, it has to be integrated and consciously expressed to yield the best results, otherwise you may miss an opportunity for a major personal breakthrough. Mars gives you the courage and Uranus awakens new possibilities within. This is an easy alignment of your actions and your individual brilliance. You may even discover some new gift or talent that has been dormant for a while, but is now beginning to come to life. This energy pushes you to try something new that will liberate you in some way that you may have felt daunted by in the past. This new evolution to the next level should not entail you having to annihilate any other aspect of your life, you will just intuitively know it is time to change, and because of this trine/easy angle, it should turn out to be change that is fun & invigorating. It won’t matter what others think or say either, because the prompting for change comes from within so take advantage of this time to experiment. You never know where it will lead.

8/29 ~ Sun (core identity) ~trine~ Uranus (individuality):

This energy is wonderful for a little self-examination and taking action on your own behalf. Look at your habits, home situation, work or anything else that is important to you and look at how you’ve gotten to where you are. What kind of choices led to here & now? This is a good time to look around and see how you can conserve what is useful and release that which is no longer relevant for you going forward. It’s also a good energy for organizing & clearing the decks, so to speak, of things that have piled up but still need to be dealt with (or released altogether). You may be feeling very practical, possibly selfish, but it’s actually self-preservation – so go with it!

8/29 ~ Mercury Enters Virgo:

Hopefully, Mercury’s extended stay in Cancer/Leo (June – Aug 2019) has prepared you for this Virgo time. How’d your summer go? Did you change your mind about something? Did you find out what really nourishes you and connects you to your true heart? It’s journey through Virgo is going to allow you to truly process & integrate whatever came into your conscious awareness during this time. It’s time for discernment & discrimination – you will have to choose or decide which ideas are worth investing more energy into so you can get organized and anchor them into the new rhythm you are creating at this time. We are in the Pre-Harvest season for another month or so, and I think you will benefit from some time-outs in Nature to mentally process your summer. Reflect on the emotions of Solstice time and the creativity of Leo time to inspire the Virgo discipline to tend to the all the “little things” that allow the “big vision” to work in your life.

8/30 ~ VIRGO Super/New Moon:

The Virgo New Moon comes every year and presents us with an opportunity to reboot the *System* ~ your personal system, which usually entails creating a whole new routine as well. Theoretically, during the last Lunation (Leo/Aquarius), we decided what we were going to *express* (with more integrity & authenticity) and what we were going to *invest in* Self & Community (with more energy & resources) because there are new value & new priorities at this time. Virgo-time supports integrating all that you have learned about your core essential nature (Leo) recently, into a new routine and creating a completely new System for living, that will support you better in the here & now. It’s time to digest, assimilate & integrate the last 9-months specifically. Also deeply supported this month is acknowledging (and releasing) any *regrets*, mourning any true losses or deaths and deepening your dedication to that which is vital, strong, healthy & evolving (within & around you).

Pre-Harvest *Assessments* (Aug/Sept) always reveal what does or does not support your Physical & Spiritual Selves, that Spirit in human form. Twice a year (Feb/Mar & Aug/Sept), we have to take time out to check in on the Physical Body (Virgo) & Spiritual Being (Pisces). If you’re healthy, great! But if you have pushed yourself to the limits, it’s time to pull-back and recalibrate. We also have to check in with our Spiritual Being. If your practice is strong and supporting you, great! But if you have neglected your yoga or meditation, silence or sleep, again, this is the best time to reboot the system and dedicate to a new routine.

As we approach the *Harvest* for the year 2019, keep in mind that everything is a response to the last thing, and preparation for the next thing. So as you connect to what you love and your Authentic Self in Leo, you shift to how to anchor that Emergent Self in your day-to-day life so that you are individually secure as you move into Libra. That is time to cultivate relationship and/or engage with others on some level. It is also a great time of year to address any imbalances in your life as we approach our one-of-two opportunities each year to tune into physical, literal balance at the Equinoxes.

The Gods

Hephaestus gets along with Aphrodite, but he (she) does not love her. She loves Athena. She has a sense of humor, and she is pretty smart actually. She is not lame, but her face is a little ugly. She has a very strong heart, and she is not afraid to be ‘the adult’ when one is needed.

Pallas Athena is like sunlight. She has a happy glow to her, even when she may not feel well, and she she has a wild side. Her glow is what makes her ‘hard to read’, and it attracts people to her like snakes to a bird nest. She has a beautiful mind.

Aphrodite is like open space. She, like Athena, is weak, and unlike her, she likes to insult people. (Think of Draco) She is not good at coming up with things, which makes her a bore to talk to. She has a life within her which always insists that she is NOT. I am not this. I am not that. It gets tiring.

Poseidon knows about many unusual things, and can find anything on the internet, if you ask. She’s a pirate, and she loves musicals. She is intelligent, even for a god. She likes sex, and she is scary when she is angry.

Zeus is kingly. He is the lead of the family and does so very well. He has a temper, or maybe he is always angry. I don’t know, but he, has an intelligent mind, both in manner of calculation, and in sanity. He has a good heart, and is open minded (I refer to his sanity).

Apollo is easy to sense from a distance. If you can imagine, his symbol is not only the sun, but love, as he is Cupid as well. He is a genius, to say the least. He is into rugby right now. I don’t know. Jeezus. What?

Artemis has a good heart. She knows what to do when it comes to being kind. It’s like she’s acutely aware of the laws of fairness, and of being polite. She will stand up for you, and for herself. She has a good mind. She draws.

My cat Popoki is Persephone. She has a bad kidney, so she needs to drink alot of water, and she has a hyperthyroid, making her bone- thin. She is prone to random bursts of energy and is immensely curious. She is fierce and motherly.

Hera is not a notable god for nothing, though when people hear that her area is marriage, they tend to think differently. Hera is a great speaker, and influencer, and she likes to play the role of the preacher or saint. She likes to have someone to dote on.

Gaia doesn’t love correctly. She cares a great deal about others, but at the same time she does not really care at all. She is polite. She is Aphrodite’s foil, along with Eris, and all animals fall under her spell when she is around. She is very smart, but she hides this fact. She has since she was very small.

Eris will always stand up for you. She is polite, and fine- souled. She is also evil, and when she was little she was always crying, and running away. She loves Aphrodite most, but when she was little, and I quote her saying this, “What is life without love?”. She had a crush on everybody.

Hermes is clever, and when he was young he was as thin as a whistle. He is easy to get along with, and is humorous really, but sometimes he goes too far. He is sort of cute, but I wouldn’t know.

Tiara, (my tiara) is kind and open minded. She is the only one among us who is black.

Ares is honest, brutally so, sort of like Hephaestus is, but different. He is great at coming up with stories. His goal involves the destruction of civilization. He is a leftist, and (Spoilers!) this is usually where you will find him.

Thanatos is a decent human being and has a sort of kindness that is quite hard to come by. He is beautiful, I believe, on the inside and very much so on the out. He and Ares are the best of friends.

Uranos is just, and very intelligent. He is god, if you know him. He likes to lie and pretend for kicks. Alot of the mayhem he causes actually is for kicks. I guess that’s what you do if you’re bored, and you are also god.

Dionysus is a petty pampered baby. He is sweet, yet torrential, and he carries a grudge to the grave.

Hades has a poison heart. He has impulses to do horrible things, but person to person, he is quite kind. He is a natural leader, like Zeus, and he doesn’t laugh too much, like I do.

Demeter laughs a lot. She likes to act like a flower maid, and although this side of her is unauthentic, it is endearing to most. She takes things apart before going with it which gives her a peculiar kind of intelligence.

Nemesis has a ‘great deal of common sense.’ She is also a great leader, and a good friend. She is technically ‘good’, but she likes to torture people.

Horoscopes Aries

You may feel that you need to make quite a few adjustments today in order to get back to a state of strong confidence in what you’re doing, dear Aries. These likely have to do with your thoughts or mindset, as there can be some worries or fears that are preventing you from feeling at your best. For best results, work on improving your ability to concentrate, plan ahead, and organize your thoughts. Keeping exciting goals in mind can help tremendously, as tedious work without something to work towards may only serve to bring you further down. Remember that doubts are temporary and, if modest, can help you get to a better place.

Taurus

While the Moon in your spirit sector usually helps you gain important perspective on your life, dear Taurus, today you may be feeling a little tense, worried, or concerned about what lies ahead for you. With the Moon’s intense aspects this morning, fears can magnify, and tensions can overwhelm you. Uncertainty is difficult for a Taurus, but it’s important to avoid overcompensating today – attempts to control people and situations around you won’t lead to resolution of the underlying issue. This is a time for making adjustments.

Cancer

You might experience a dip in confidence or a lull with your thinking today, dear Cancer. This can slow you down, which isn’t a bad thing at this time in the last quarter of the Moon phase. Be aware of a tendency to read too much into situations today, dear Scorpio, particularly if you sense it’s not going to serve you well. However, stretching your mind to consider all sorts of possibilities can be useful once you’ve returned to a more reasonable frame of mind, as you have a window into which areas of your life could use some strengthening. Sagittarius

You may be doing battle with your expectations today, dear Sagittarius. Separating aspects are good to know for context, but in terms of energy that is with us today, applying aspects are most important. (This is the case for daily astrology influences involving inner planets, which pass quickly, and not natal astrology aspects, which are with us for a lifetime).

Pallas and Telurin - Barfight with Barnaby, Return to Karabor (Part 12)

Part of a roleplay story with Telurin’s player. Pallas and Telurin reach Karabor. Before returning to the temple, they stop at an inn, where they meet Vindicator Barnaby. Barnaby flirts with Pallas inappropriately, which starts a fight. Pallas consoles Telurin afterwards, then Telurin escorts Pallas to the Karabor temple the next day. As a death knight, Telurin is unable to remain at the temple, and the pair are temporarily parted.

Pallas reaches up to pet the fingers of his right hand through Telurin's facial hair. From what hints the death knight has dropped, he gathers that Telurin may have lost someone important to him during the tumults of their own Draenor. "Draenor reminds you of something sad, doesn't it."

The priest kisses his cheek. "It's not all bad," he murmurs. "This place brought us together. That's not something I would ever take back."

Telurin smiles faintly at that. "Yes, that it has. That, I do not regret."

Pallas doesn't know what it could be that brings Telurin such melancholy. He has, at the very least, figured out that he may have lost someone important on their own Draenor.

The priest sits pressed against the death knight in the warm water for as long as he is able to. Finally, however, he is aware that the morning is getting on and they must continue their journey. He kisses Telurin on the cheek once more, and steps up out of the hot springs, picking up a towel and starting to dry himself off. "That was pleasant... Thank you for coming with me."

Telurin lets Pallas lean against him, tail curling around the little priest’s under the water.

"Of course, Anchorite." Telurin smirks, following Pallas out of the water. He dries off and re-dresses. When Pallas is ready to leave he holds the door for him and follows him out, a half-step behind and to the left, falling into the role of guardian with practiced ease. There's a bit more activity in the inn now, and they pass a few of the other patrons on the way back to their rooms, Telurin watching them carefully as they pass, unnervingly.

Pallas notices Telurin examining people in a way that could almost be constituted as staring, but he pays it little mind. If the death knight wanted to be menacing, he'd let him.

They return to their room to collect their meager belongings that remain there. Pallas looks up at Telurin. "Would you like a hand with all of that?" he asks, indicating the other man's armor.

Telurin looks over at Pallas, already strapping on pieces of plate, and shakes his head.

"I can manage." he replies, his tone amused. "May even be quicker this way by now." Indeed, it's only a short time later that the death knight is fully encased in his armor, and picking up his runeblade to set it in its sheath. He wears his armor easily, but there's a somberness that overcomes him as he's fully dressed.

"Shall we retrieve your talbuk and my horse, or would you like to walk the rest of the way? It will not be far either way."

Pallas considers this question. "Let us leave the talbuk in the inn's care," he suggests. "It looks to be a nice day today... Let's walk the rest of the way. My pack is not very large."

"I thought you might say that." The corner of the death knight’s lips twitch upwards, but it's not quite a smirk. "Let us be gone then, if you have no further business here."

Pallas nods. Carrying his knapsack, he leaves the inn with Telurin, walking outside and to the stable where Sugarfoot had been penned during their stay. He's curious to see the horse again. They were not a creature he'd actually seen very much, due to being isolated on Azuremyst.

Telurin follows, and once they get outside walks beside the little priest once more. As they pass the inn's stables, they see that Sugarfoot has been put into one of the stallion turn outs, away from the other horses. The deathcharger is looking forlornly out at the other mounts, who want nothing to do with him, until he senses his master. His ears flick back toward the pair, and he trots back toward their side of the fence. Telurin sighs, but changes his direction enough to come alongside the fence where the charger is being held.

Pallas sees Sugarfoot responding to them and smiles, quickening his pace. "Good morning, Sugarfoot," he greets in Draenei speech. He moves to pet the horse's muzzle when he has come close enough to the gate.

He is aware of Telurin's somber mood, but does what he can to make the last hour or so of their time together pleasant.

Telurin snorts as Sugarfoot unabashedly seeks attention from Pallas. It's an oddity of the charger's personality that he's come to accept, and as he waits for the priest to realize that Sugarfoot will not tire of petting, he takes the time to look his horse over, and is pleasantly surprised to note that he's been brushed down and turned out properly. He'll have to remember to tip the stable master when he returns, not many in this world have done so.

Pallas smiles, content to give Sugarfoot as many pets as the massive horse desires. With the deathcharger, Telurin is not completely alone on the road. "What a wonderfully friendly creature."

The morning was pleasant, cool and clear, perfect for a morning stroll. Karabor was visible as soon as they were clear of the small collection of buildings around the inn, looming massively over the landscape. By unspoken agreement both Telurin and Pallas took their time, in no hurry to reach their destination. The nearer they come to the temple, the stiffer Telurin's gait and set of his shoulders become, and his responses to Pallas's attempts at conversation become shorter. Those that they pass along the road he alternatively ignores outright or watches until they become unnerved and look away.

The pair pass through Karabor's outermost walls without incident, though the vindicators standing guard frown as Telurin passes and look at each other uneasily. Soon, they are as far as Telurin had said he would come, the outer gardens. The death knight turns off the main path to a slightly more quiet one, and turns to face Pallas, shifting his weight on his hooves as he looks at the little Anchorite that has so suddenly become very important to him.

Pallas looks melancholy, now that the dreaded moment that the two of them would be parted has arrived. He stands before the death knight, aware of how out of place the other looks in this pristine, holy, beautiful sanctuary. Especially surrounded by flowers and leafy, gnarled trees.

He steps up to Telurin, looking into the other draenei's eyes. "Please don't be away long." The thought of being separated from Telurin felt unreal. Pallas didn't want it to happen.

Telurin nods somberly, and raises a gauntleted hand as if to touch Pallas's face, but drops it before he can complete the motion.

"Be safe, little one." He says instead, every line of him conveying sorrow. "Do not hesitate to contact me if you are not. I will never be more than a day away."

Pallas nods. His lower lip wavers for a moment and he bites it. He is responding emotionally to Telurin's own sorrow, which he has never before seen so obvious. "I am glad you will not be far. Take care of yourself." He folds his hands, then unfolds them and reaches out to touch Telurin's gauntleted hand as it hangs at his side.

Telurin looks down at the contact, and his tail curls and flicks briefly, torn, before he responds to Pallas's words with the ghost of a smirk. "Of course, Anchorite."

Pallas looks as if he's trying to think of what to say that could possibly keep Telurin around just a little longer, when he hears others approaching through the garden. He turns his head to see two Karabor Anchorites hurrying towards him, concern on their faces at the presence of a death knight.

Telurin turns to face the pair, sliding back into a neutral expression as he clasps his hands behind his back, one hand grabbing the other wrist. He watches the two approach with the stillness only a death knight can achieve.

Pallas frowns faintly at the new arrivals. The two Anchorites are clearly wary of Telurin, who has become as neutral and still as a mannequin.

"Please, give us just a moment," Pallas asks the pair, and he musters up a smile, trying to reassure the other priests that he is really okay. They look between themselves doubtfully, then one whispers something to the other. They nod to Pallas, and leave to give him and Telurin their privacy.

Pallas sighs, turning back to Telurin. "I am sorry for how they treat you." He's asked Telurin to escort him to this place where he not only has bad memories, but is unwelcome. He felt like a bit of a heel. "It isn't right."

Telurin turns halfway back to Pallas and waves a hand in dismissal; the gesture is stiff and formal. "Do not worry, Anchorite. They do as they think is best; I will not have you champion my cause among them while I am gone." His tone has gone back to its former state as well, making his words a bit harsh, a definite command rather than a suggestion. Only his eyes still retain their softness.

"Tell me Pallas, do you think my testimony will help you explain your absence? Or will my absence help your explanation?"

Pallas frowns and worries his bottom lip. He doesn't agree that staying mum about how death knights are treated is the right thing to do. But he also understood that a prejudice exists that would require time, hard work and understanding to overcome.

Telurin's question causes more complex feelings. He knows that he is better off in the eyes of his superiors if Telurin is absent; however, the thought of doing this upsets him. Telurin has acted as his guard, and in this, he had been unflagging. "Give them your testimony," he replies. "Please."

Telurin's exhale is sharp and short, not quite a snort but close. He nods, and uses the same hand he had waved in dismissal to indicate that Pallas should lead, with a curtailed, palm up gesture toward the pair of Anchorites waiting in the wings. He will follow Pallas a half step behind and to the left, the very picture of a civilized guardian and nothing more.

Pallas nods, turning and advancing towards the waiting pair of Anchorites as Telurin shadows him. He wonders to himself if perhaps he should have allowed the death knight to quietly leave.

No, he thinks, I am not ashamed to show them that he is my guardian. The thought causes his gut to ache when he realizes that he could not say the truth, regardless of how much he might have wanted to. I am not ashamed to show them that I love him.

There was no time. He had to be composed. Pallas clears his throat as the other two priests eye him. "I am sure you've been wondering where I've been. I encountered danger on the road from Iron Horde orcs. Telurin, here, is to be thanked for my safe return to Karabor."

At that, the other two Anchorites look up at Tel wonderingly.

Telurin looks at the pair of Anchorites coolly, giving nothing away of himself. When he speaks, the words have the clipped tone of a professional soldier speaking to his commanding officer.

"I chose to accompany Anchorite Pallas after rescuing him from a stray pack of Iron Horde, likely a scouting party as there were none that were heavily armored. Anchorite Pallas was uninjured in the attack, as I was close enough to hear the sounds of battle to come upon the scene at an opportune time. Leaving an Anchorite alone, in an area that is known to be dangerous, was unconscionable, and so I accompanied him back to ensure his safety. Along the road we encountered additional threats, which were of a sufficient level to reassure the Anchorite that my presence was necessary. As I have returned him to the *relative* safety of these walls, I consider my current duty to you absolved, having brought back one of your number safely. During our travels I did consent to becoming Pallas's guardian should he need a guard in the future, of *appropriate* skill level to keep him safe from harm."

The professionalism and level of detail in Telurin's retelling seems to satisfy the listening Anchorites, even if by their expressions, it's clear enough that they don't personally like having a death knight around even still. Pallas feels a sort of grim triumph when Telurin mentions he consented to being his guardian in the future.

One of the Anchorites bows his head stiffly to Telurin, and the other, a lady, follows suit. "On behalf of the rest of us at Karabor, we thank you for your valiant actions in keeping Anchorite Pallas safe from harm."

"Come, Pallas," the woman says with a hopeful smile, "The High Priest will want to see you and be assured of your safety."

Pallas nods automatically. "Yes, of course."

The other Anchorites start to walk away towards the temple. Pallas hesitates, looks at Telurin -- his expression is complex and sad -- and then he turns away, falling into step behind the others.

Telurin dips his head at her words, choosing to remain silent as she turns her attentions to his Anchorite. He watches Pallas fall in with the pair, and when Pallas turns to look back his expression softens for just a moment, and his tail twitches lazily behind him. He waits until they are out of sight until he too turns away and heads back the direction they came, leaving Karabor, and Pallas, behind. If his steps are heavier than before, well, there is no one around to notice.

Transiting Sun enters Cancer

June 21 - July 22, 2019

In ordinary times, Cancer season would be relatively quiet. Lucky us that our times are extraordinary, for in 2019, Cancer season is also eclipse season. First comes the total solar eclipse of Tuesday, July 2, at 10:38 Cancer; two weeks later is the lunar eclipse of Tuesday, July 16, at 24:04 Capricorn.

One thing this means is that practically all of Cancer season falls into an eclipse zone. These extend between ten days before, to three days after an eclipse - and since we have two eclipses, we’re therefore “eclipse zoned” from June 22 - July 19. Don’t make any major decisions, if you can possibly help it, between those dates! Eclipses get us all riled up, but after the dust settles life looks very different.

This is all complicated, naturally, by the presence of big bad Saturn and bigger worse Pluto, both retrograde in Capricorn. They both are indicative of a developing reality (their conjunction won’t mature until January 12, 2020) which is harsh, painful, and absolutely necessary to confront.

And Cancer doesn’t want to. It wants to hide in its shell, fingers firmly plugging the ears, eyes tightly closed. It longs for the good old days of yore, when it wasn’t hassled by all this cold, hard reality. That we can’t do this anymore, for the sake of our planet, should be obvious.

So as we move through Cancer season, with its eclipses staring us in the face, let’s find new ways to feel safe and to have domestic tranquility. It may not be time to do anything just yet. Ms M is eyeing a jaw-dropper of a Virgo New Moon on August 30, for which the Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, and Juno will all be crammed into nine degrees of the Zodiac. Let’s use our Cancer imaginations, then work on our Leo willpower, to bring about the best possible use of that energy. Friday, June 21, Juno/Leo semi-sextile Sun/Cancer, 0:32

This is a waning semi-sextile, as the Sun and Juno are moving toward their 29+ Leo conjunction this August. It may set the tone for our Cancer wishful thinking, as these semi-sextiles tend to be otherworldly and transcendental/immanent (due to their associate with Pisces/12th House). We could easily find some creative inspiration for a “higher level of self-awareness.” Remember that Juno is the protector of the helpless, and elevate that energy into something higher. Remember, too, the old saying - to make a friend, be a friend.

Sunday, June 23, Ceres Rx/Sagittarius inconjunct Sun/Cancer, 2:14

This is a waning inconjunct/quincunx. Bil writes that this “is an aspect centered around the use or abuse of intense desire and willful emotionality. We are eventually to make long-lasting adjustments on the feeling level. The planets involved need to undergo mutual transformation if they are to provide inner resources that we can draw upon during crucial times of need.” Ms M is thinking specifically of that kind of sloppy, sentimental “patriotism” so often on display in the US. I wish we would all feel about the whole world, the way we feel about our internal images of “my country, right or wrong.” To quote G. K. Chesterton, “It is like saying, ‘My mother, drunk or sober.’”

Finally, some major aspects. The waxing sextile to Uranus/Taurus gives the Sun fresh, new ideas about how to live better in our climate-catastrophic world (or maybe the necessity of needing to learn); the waxing square to Chiron/Aries, though, shows the “need to establish a new support system or vital base of operations for ourselves, suggesting the relinquishment of former security symbols.” It is by no means going to be easy for many of us; we may question our basic right to take such actions as well, for fear of ridicule or punishment.

This waxing sextile sees us (if we choose) taking the first steps of learning how to be a more whole person, perhaps more in tune with Mother Earth (Taurus and Cancer). However, we’re sixty hours before the solar eclipse. Anything we begin now, even study, is liable to change.

Before I get into this, I want to apologize if you’re flooded with stuff and I’m annoying you, but if you could read Indie’s profile and offer criticism, it’d be really appreciated. (Art Credit to Rinmaru Games). Firstly, yes, this is a world cross OC. I’m sorry if you don’t like those. Also, Indie is paired with Ed. I’m also sorry if you don’t like that.

H: Hi! We didn’t get your art, for some reason. In my opinion, world-cross OCs and OC/Canon pairings aren’t an automatic fail, if they’re done in a way that makes sense. For example, add some backstory to how the world cross happened, or show your OC and the canon character eventually falling in love.

E: Indigo eyes are very rare. In fact, I think it may be one of the rarest eye colors in humans. But I’m sure she could have dark blue eyes!

H: Dark blue eyes could definitely work, and they do look indigo sometimes.

Maybe Indigo has a sort of nutritional deficiency that stunts her growth? I know somebody who struggles with that, and they have to eat sugary things constantly to keep themselves healthy. That deficiency could make her story more interesting, as she now needs to concentrate on what she needs to eat, too, while also surviving in a different world.

E: To be honest, I think that any falling injuries that would give her a cut under her eyes would also (in most cases) damage the bone in her face around her eyes.

H: If you want to keep the scar, burns, car crashes, and bike accidents are all common childhood injuries and could all cause a scar. However, falling down the stairs could also cut her without damaging her bone structure if she landed on something sharp, like a vase.

H: Though you didn’t have much room to do so here, I’d expand on her relationships and how they formed. Maybe Ed took her in when she appeared in Amestris? Alternatively, does this happen after the show, but do these enemies come back? This could be a great opportunity for some incredible word building.

History/Backstory:

Indie was born in Chicago, Illinois. She is the only child of Helena and Dion Terzi, and was named after her dark blue eyes. She grew up in a cozy apartment in the city, always healthy and happy. Both of her parents were artists (Helena was a painter while Dion was a composer), and they heavily encouraged creativity in their daughter.

Indie was always drawn to creative outlets, and was frequently doodling, writing, and humming. However, she also knew that her parents wouldn’t tolerate failure (or perhaps, she realized later in life, it was her who wouldn’t accept it), and therefore did very well in school. Though she wasn’t disliked, per se, her classmates found her a bit strange, given her unusual intellect and shy tendencies.

Helena, a long time Chicago resident, knew how dangerous the city could be. She signed Indie up for aikido so that she could learn self defense. Indie was decent. She wasn’t a top-notch, best in the country student, but she knew enough to the point that she could defend herself without harming her attacker.

While in elementary school, Indie’s nose was always buried in a book or notebook. She was fascinated by higher level education and entertained herself by doing things like memorizing the periodic table. It wasn’t because she wanted to show off. She simply enjoyed memorizing and trying out new things. She didn’t know that it would annoy her classmates to the point where they would tease her viciously, picking away at her insecurities. The teasing eventually got so bad that Indie would claim to be sick to get out of school. This happened so often that Dion took Indie to the doctor, who said nothing was wrong.

E: Does she have another mental illness? Some illnesses can give people a wider memory and an aptitude with higher level thinking. (What was described seems a bit unnatural for a neurotypical person of that age.)

As a result, Helena and Dion became worried and took Indie to a psychologist, who diagnosed her with social anxiety and depression. Indie was put on medication and moved schools to a private school for her middle school and high school years.

It was here that Indie flourished. She was still quiet, but, with encouragement from Dion, tried out for the musical in sixth grade, and, to her surprise, was cast. It was a small chorus role, but a role nonetheless. And thus Indie’s passion was discovered. Musical theatre became a second home for Indie, and she came out of her shell when she went onstage. She gained self-confidence as she moved up the ranks of the cast. She became very close to a stage manager named Sean Lee (birth name Li Shan), but no, they do not date, they’re just close friends.

Overall, Indie’s life was looking up. And then she saw that damn red stone.

H: I think this is a really important fact that should be expanded upon. Did her grandmother know about the stone or did she not know about its power? How did she come across it?

Indie is allergic to bee stings

Helena and Dion actually were going to have a child before Indie, but Helena suffered a miscarriage, meaning that Indie was a miracle and a blessing to both of them

Indie practically generates warmth, and is often hugged by Sean, who is perpetually cold

Indie’s favorite book (besides Fullmetal Alchemist) is Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

H: Unless I’m reading into this wrong, Indigo comes from a world that knows about FMA into the actual FMA universe. Does this mean that FMA was based off of a real story/universe? Or did someone create an alternate universe based on the FMA story? To keep your story from getting too complicated, I wouldn’t make FMA exist as a story in her universe, but Indigo isn’t my OC, after all!

Indie’s fear of needles came from when she was about 6 and was given an antibiotic for an infection. The antibiotic had a side effect of delirium, and, when the doctors came to draw blood, Indie saw nothing but the needles and though she was going to be stabbed

The total number of notebooks that Indie has filled with stories, notes, personal poems and songs, or choreography throughout her life is around 25-30

Indie loves games involving memorization, like Memory and recreating sequences

Indie’s brown messenger bag is like a safety blanket, and she never leaves anywhere without it

H: I really like these small tidbits, even if they don’t contribute to her story! They make Indigo seem very real and imperfect.

E: You write really well! Keep up the good work! I love your character. She’s very fleshed-out and realistic (to the point where I think she’s based off of someone real!) and with any free time you have, I think it’d be ideal that you pursue her story!

Also, on an ending note, you can also have fun bending canon if you want! Sure, Winry might end up with Edward at the end, but if you want her to fall in love with Paninya (for whatever reason,,, ;O ) you can!

But with OCs, usually the problem lies in the power that you give them. Remember, even though the content is free for examination and recreation, if you want a realistic (ha ha, realistic, it’s anime, but you get what I mean) character, you need to make sure you don’t give them a god-like ability and a perfect life. Mistakes happen. One day, in a tragic accident, a character might lose a leg halfway through the story.

(That’s confusingly worded, but to put it in simpler terms, every character messes up. Also, to keep the story realistic, not every character has to emerge in one piece.)

H: Overall, I also really liked Indigo. I feel that she’s very realistic, and I don’t see many things you could change with her character that would improve her. The worldbuilding can be explored a little, but I think you’ve already created an interesting beginning that could make an awesome story. There’s a lot of great potential in this, and I encourage you to keep working on it!

Bad Aspects Part 5 - Waning Squares

Waning squares are those squares for which the faster-moving planet is 270 degrees ahead of the slower-mover. Another handy-dandy list:

When the slower-moving planet is in Aries, the waning square is in Capricorn

When the slower-moving planet is in Taurus, the waning square is in Aquarius

When the slower-moving planet is in Gemini, the waning square is in Pisces

When the slower-moving planet is in Cancer, the waning square is in Aries

When the slower-moving planet is in Leo, the waning square is in Taurus

When the slower-moving planet is in Virgo, the waning square is in Gemini

When the slower-moving planet is in Libra, the waning square is in Cancer

When the slower-moving planet is in Scorpio, the waning square is in Leo

When the slower-moving planet is in Sagittarius, the waning square is in Virgo

When the slower-moving planet is in Capricorn, the waning square is in Libra

When the slower-moving planet is in Aquarius, the waning square is in Scorpio

Remember (again) that degrees matter - a Virgo placement at 4+ degrees is NOT square a Gemini placement at 22+ degrees. My waning squares are Venus/Taurus-Ceres/Leo, Venus/Taurus-Uranus/Leo, Mars/Aries-Pallas/Cancer, Juno/Leo-Neptune/Scorpio, and Uranus/Leo-Neptune/Scorpio. (The majority of my waxing squares were in cardinal signs - and, most of my waning squares are in fixed signs. This is the kind of little nuance we all need to learn to pick up on.)

To quote myself, for a change:

We know that squares in general show friction between two planets. Each likes to do its own thing, yet each planet doing its own thing is absolutely inimical to the other planet doing its own thing. Unlike an opposition, there’s no compromise possible, nor any balancing act - also unlike an opposition, we’re not going to experience “the shoe on the other foot” via relationships. Squares are where we tear ourselves apart, all by ourselves.

We get the general sense of a waning square from Bil Tierney via his book Dynamics of Aspect Analysis, pp 25-26:

The upper square corresponds to the sign Capricorn, operating thru the Capricorn dwad in the Capricorn decanate of this sign. It also associates with the MC/10th house and the planet Saturn. While subjective insecurity and the drive for personal safety characterize the lower square, stress patterns concerning the upper square result from the conscious pressure of social responsibility. The undertone of Capricorn and Saturn suggest that a sense of inadequacy, guilt, and a fear of consequences are more emphasized here, resulting normally in self-blocking. These squares generate suppression or inhibition due to our struggle with external control factors (symbolic authority figures in our life). The drive to manage and maintain one’s own boundaries in the social environment is emphasized here. Although internal pressures are more well-defined with the more objective upper square, they may also be more frustrating since the individual is consciously aware that his personal drives are often antagonistic to what is expected of him by his society. However, these squares represent a greater measure of self-discipline and purposeful direction. Thus, it may be easier to constructively utilize these tensional forces thru the pursuit of worldly ambitions. They goad us to achieve and accomplish in the outer world. We are forced to recognize our obligations here as strength-producing rather than burdensome. With our upper squares, we are to learn to endure and persevere rather than buckle under. Negatively expressed, upper squares denote ruthless self-preservation. They appear to be more power-oriented than are the passive, more internal lower squares.

This kind of square is a turning-away-from square. A simple way to write it out would be, “Because of (the slower-moving planet), we turn away from (the faster-moving planet).”

My Neptune is retrograde, in Scorpio and the 12th House. Powerful! The Neptune in Scorpio generation is the one that made Led Zeppelin rich (“If you’re gonna get wasted, get wasted elegantly”) - in the 12th, though, the hedonism is going to be focused and filtered through spirituality, through contemplation of The Divine. If somebody ever builds a convent for astrologers, I’ll move right in - provided I can have all the space I need. Because this planet, in this house, shows extreme introversion.

My Juno is in Leo and the 9th - someday my foreign prince will come!? It’s a very romantic placement, but the 9th House has associations with Jupiter, which is called “the bachelor planet” when it comes to affairs of the heart. And it’s also really a very highly idealistic placement, probably borderline unrealistic. I could be setting the romantic bar too high - and I could be doing it ON PURPOSE, because this is a TURNING-AWAY-FROM kind of square.

Let me also point out that my natal Venus is in a waning square with my natal Uranus; it’s almost the same thing as Juno in a waning square Neptune, i.e. “turning away from relationships,” with only the motivations different. That same natal Uranus, in turn, is in a waning square with natal Neptune. All in fixed signs! Finally, that Neptune of mine - which is sort of the reason or the root cause for all the turning away from - is also conjunct my Libra North Node. FFS. As my astrological apprentice sourly told me, “You’re supposed to talk about spirituality.” I’d also submit that with that North Node in Libra, it may be that it’s my attitudes and feelings about relationships which needs an overhaul - I’m a bit more enamored of my autonomy, than of whatever fellow I’m romantically interested in. (All I’ll say further, is that a few years ago I realized that no man, no person, will ever make me feel the way my favorite music makes me feel.)

A quick review of the major bad aspects:

Waxing square: “Because of (slower-moving planet), I take action involving (faster-moving planet).”

Opposition: “I tend to own (faster-moving planet) and project (slower-moving planet), when what I need to do is get them to cooperate.”

Waning square: “Because of (slower-moving planet), I turn away from (faster-moving planet).”

Transiting Vesta enters Libra

September 18 - November 16, 2017

Ushering in two months’ worth of partnership in the pursuit of aesthetics and equality, probably in that order, is this ingress of Vesta into Libra. This is ostensibly an inimical placement - the single-blessedness Lady Asteroid in the sign of Bridezilla - and if being one-half of a Romantic Couple is your sole/chief goal in life, you may indeed have some difficulty with this transit. For the rest of us, there are the following Vesta issues which now take on a Libra coloration:

Personal Integration: The literal interpretation is that this transit brings us challenges or gifts in our commitment to keeping our personal act together (Vesta) by maintaining our balance and poise (Libra). We could discover some personal quality we lack, which we need to adapt in order to become a well-rounded person. We may also find ourselves too dependent on others: either on actual persons, or on their opinions of us. A very tricky balancing act, to maintain self-respect equally with others’ approval.

Devotional and Religious Activities; One’s Work or Path of Service: “Ora et labora,” as St. Benedict advised us (approximately). The “social justice” side of Libra is bound to manifest itself, through Vesta’s transit, as (firstly) a kind of recognition that we can’t be truly effective working by ourselves - that this is not only inefficient, but futile. Second, although we may all indeed be equally committed to peace and harmony, our means and methods of getting there (as well as, what that looks like once we arrive) can be so different as to be opposite. Spiritual lessons regarding cooperation, manipulation, and competition are to be learned, if we’re willing.

Scholastic Interests: Well, yes, pretty much “fine arts bonanza” time, although Libra’s social justice side will also affect what we choose to study. Keep in mind that Libran balance is required of us. If you’re already well-versed in something, don’t focus further on it: think about how you can healthily balance that knowledge/skill, to make it even stronger.

The house(s) Vesta/Libra travels through, in your own chart, indicate where these issues/opportunities will be found. In the 1st House, you’re being asked to personally embody these qualities; in the 6th House, you need to clean up your diet and exercise acts, and maybe commit yourself to a “craftsmanship” level of skill; in the 11th House, find yourself a compatible group of allies with whom to associate.

Most of the aspects Vesta will make are of the “challenging” variety. My gut tells me that, if we’re up for it, we will be either shaken into, or out of, complacency. (That is, worry wart control freaks such as myself will learn how to chill out, while the “ignorance is bliss” crowd will be excised from that position.)

This is the beginning of an almost 18-month cycle (ending March 8, 2019) between the Sun (our basic identity and conscious purpose) and Vesta (personal integration). It’s therefore an important day for all of us to re-align and re-commit ourselves - actually, any time during the first half of Sun/Libra will work - and for those of us with Sun-Vesta aspects, it’s a crucial day indeed. We’re hyper aware of how we do/don’t conform to others’ expectations and demands; we desperately wish for their approval and acceptance. This ends badly when we feel alienated from our partners, and/or we sacrifice ourselves on the partner’s behalf. “The resolution of these challenges,” writes Demetra George, “lies in integrating the role of the autonomous individual within the context of a committed partnership.” Perhaps something along the lines of bringing out the best in each other will do.

Anything goes, really, even math: remember that the Libran symbol is a machine. Whatever you pick, be aware that the learning process will present challenges and frustrations. But how else are we supposed to learn?

Even if we’re just a little more public about our inner Oscar Wilde, that should be plenty….

This is perhaps a “crisis point” in manifesting our creative visions - a “lightbulb moment” when we devote ourselves to the development of our creativity, to a political cause, and/or to our creative autonomy.
