Astrid, Astrid, Astrid, what am I going to do? Sort through your consistently perfect gifs? Pick favourites? You have truly set me a great challenge.

Usually I will go through a person’s whole edits tag but I have sorted these into Narcos and The Mandalorian because I was just looking to see how much you had made and accidentally saw a major spoiler for The Mentalist which I am only on season 2 of. I’m looking forward to [redacted] happening, though, because I was starting to ship them a few episodes in! Anyway, onwards with my impossible task.

So before I start on this list I want to say that your colouring? It’s perfect every single time. Seriously. Fair warning: I’m going to be saying “perfect” a lot.

Javier Peña + that thing he does with his right hand - A great compilation! I never noticed this little detail so this gifset was a real (pleasant) surprise. I was checking the notes just to see what the general consensus was and I like the he-wants-a-cigarette theory. Just excellent acting from Pedro what a very keen eye you have! Or maybe you just spend a lot of time fixating on Javi’s hands...

Javi being snarky - Gosh, I love this one! Javi’s sense of humour got me though Narcos, although I think only one or possibly two of these gifs is from season 3? The way the life drains out of him over the course of the series just breaks my effing heart, baby. By the end of the three seasons I was pretty cross with the guys in episode one for calling him an asshole, but maybe I can see their point now, haha! But I still love him. I will protec.

1.05 There Will Be a Future | 3.01 The Kingpin Strategy - It was a great choice to jump from one scene to the other like this. Really adds to the heartbreak. It makes the contrast between his life now (sharing stories in the cool dark) and what it could have been (warmth and light and checked shirts) all the more vivid. The way he looks back at her in the last gif? Ouch.

Narcos, “The Palace in Flames” (2015) | We Can Be Heroes (2020) - A parallel I love and respect, thanks for making such good gifs of it. Shout-out to @keanurevees for being the single funniest person on this planet.

“Jungle Rescue Javi” in Convivir - Listen Jungle Rescue Javi can come and rescue me anytime. You’ve done a great job of colouring so many scenes with different lighting conditions and still have that green shirt look like a green shirt. Like it’s the same hue in each one. How did you do that? That’s pretty neat.

We’ve all gone off the rails down here, Javi. - This scene! I’m not okay! I love the colouring work you have done here. It’s just so perfect, so nice to look at. The whole set has this earthy colour palette and I mean, even Javi isn’t wearing a colourful shirt for once. This is serious.

Javi wearing a leather jacket - These gifs are so HQ I could practically reach out and touch his jacket, you can just feel the textures... with-with your eyes...? You’ve picked shots that all work together as a set, nothing stands out for the wrong reasons. No wide shots, no super close-ups, nothing to throw us off of our jacket appreciation rhythm.

Javi and his yellow aviator sunglasses - My biggest “YEAH BOY!!!” ever for this one. The amount of work that must have gone into this. 24 individual gifs coloured to your usual levels of absolute perfection and then laid out in this very pleasing and completely accurate, not-a-pixel-out-of-line way. Amazing.

Javi chasing Franklin Jurado through Curaçao in Best Laid Plans - Gosh this scene was so tense! You’ve done a great job colouring this despite the changing lighting conditions and the blazing sunshine. Well done! And I never noticed until I saw this gifset for the first time that he’s wearing a pink shirt and jumps from a pink building, haha!

Javier Peña leaning over tables - You see stuff like this? This is why I consider you to be the ultimate expert on Narcos. You make compilations like this and make it look effortless. I wouldn’t know where to start looking for scenes like these without having to rewatch the whole series and take notes. But, hey, maybe that’s what you did. But the fact that you did and made this set is still amazing.

NARCOS | 1.06 EXPLOSIVOS - Great job with such a dark and unforgiving scene! You have the Talent. He looks really pretty here.

Javier Peña + favorite look - Gosh, yes. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, Pedro Pascal is a very talented actor. He takes clunky vintage tactical equipment and makes it look flipping incredible, like something he was born to wear. Also thank you for that delectable bonus gif. Arms.

Okay I have rambled for, like, 800 words already so I’ll try to say a bit less about these. I’ll try.

Din’s beskar spear heel kick in The Rescue - First of all, I saw this and now I’m pregnant. This is on the list because not only is it Din’s hottest moment for me, but because colouring-wise it is impressive. It’s bright, there’s no colour cast at all, and yet the blacks are really deep and rich. Gideon’s I’m-evil-I-must-wear-nothing-but-black cape looks especially good.

Din’s walk - You are the compilation queen! There’s nothing really that I can say here that I haven’t already said about your other compilation gifsets, it’s just perfect as usual, ya know? You make it look so easy. How does Din look so good when [New Yorker voice] he’s just walkin’ here?

Din just being a dad - Yeah. That’s the Good Stuff.

Din’s shoulder/waist ratio whenever he walks into a room - Everyone shut up I am Thinking.

Din engaging in a dogfight while his son has the time of his life on the backseat in The Siege - Like with your set of pink-shirted Javi chasing that guy in Narcos, you have a real talent for giffing action scenes. You’ve coloured this really well. You can still see details in the clouds and the shadows and your colour balance is impeccable.

Din lifting his helmet to sip soup in The Siege - I love the warmth of this little scene and the colouring you’ve done here. And the bonus gif... same, Grogu, same.

And I think I’ll stop there. I have sadly had to leave out some really excellent posts but I had to draw the line somewhere, haha! You, my friend, are just incredible. Time and time again you grace us with perfect gifs in crisp HD 4K 1080p HDR. And for what? Not for money or reward, but for love. Thank you for all that you do, because you may make your gifs look effortless but I know it is anything but. You’re amazing, you’re talented, you’re perfect.

if you get a chance to see the elite segment from dynamite this week: i gotta know your thoughts on the hangmatt confrontation. like kenny and hangman has been Too Much for me already, but truly matt's audacity to want to get at hangman by himself is off the charts

i'm putting this under a readmore because it got away from me a little bit but! tldr: matt sucks so much because kenny sucks and it's about the cycle of toxicity in friendships

so i woke up to this before i got up for the day proper and it sure was A Way to start my day. anyway i've kind of said a little of this in tags already but i think it's very. funny? something. that matt conceives of friendship in the same terms kenny does, ie as a game of domination over another person. kenny has to feel like he can control the people closest to him and because matt's been in that insular toxic environment for so long (and also because he's the worst) he's internalised that as like. How Friendships Are. we're good wrestlers and we win and we give you purpose, hangman, how could you leave us? for people who don't do those things? like matt's very. kenny being controlling is fine (to him) because it gives him purpose, he knows what he's doing, etc, and he can mostly ignore the Bad Parts of that because he can mostly ameliorate them by just doing what kenny wants - which is why it's so interesting to see when and why the bucks choose to dig their heels in/say no/push back and how they eventually capitulate to what kenny wants, because they always do - and he's a deeply selfish person so he can't conceive of adam. Not seeing things that way. of adam seeking validation/friendship as not dependent on wrestling success. even as adam has difficulty accepting that from the dark order because he's so used to that being The Way Relationships Are.

it's also very funny(?) that matt is very clearly trying to use the same manipulation tactics on hangman that kenny uses on him - @cuil-meleth made that gifset of the parallels in how kenny talks to matt and how matt talks to hangman - but hangman, like, has friends now who don't manipulate him constantly so he can see that it's. maybe bad, actually. to be treated like that. also matt is just much worse at manipulation than kenny is like i think matt's a very straightforward character in that the things that are important to him are 1. his brother 2. kenny 3. winning at the wrestling and that's, like. that's him. where kenny is a better manipulator not because he's necessarily more complex but because he's better at using the things your brain tells you against you. because his brain is always telling him things that aren't, like. true. so matt's trying to replicate the kind of manipulation that works on him - because he'll always choose kenny over almost anything else. maybe even over nick, one day. (i can only hope) - but hangman isn't falling for it because matt's worse at it and also because hangman isn't the same kind of invested.

i think matt's promo voice is also really interesting because like obviously we have the layers of promo as performance, promo not as conversation but as dramatic monologue, but the intonation used is always really interesting to me? so when hangman talks it's very, like. he's performing to a crowd, he's exaggerating his gesture, he's speaking very loudly, there's a Drama to his tone, but he's more. it's more believable to me that he would also say something like this at normal volume in normal conversation. part of that is that hangman's the babyface, he gets to be the voice of reason, the straightforward hard-working man, but part of it is also that matt's promo style is, uh, different. by which i mean. just insanely annoying. on purpose, obviously, but god does he suck. so he's Performing Disgust at hangman for leaving them, for drinking, for hanging out with the dark order, but he's doing it in a way that's even more exaggerated than is strictly necessary to play as a promo. it's heel work to be sure but it's really interesting to look at the contrast there. i'm not sure i had a point. uhh i hate matt jackson

matt approaching hangman alone is fun especially because of that bte ending bit a couple [weeks/months] back where he's like Sadly Watching Hangman Have Fun With The Dark Order and on his way to make amends and clearly now he's abandoned that to just fully commit to being theeeeee worst. the worst. like it's fun that matt feels entitled to approach hangman alone because he clearly thinks he, matt, has some hold over hangman that hangman is doing a very good job of ignoring. obviously it's also fun given the whole hangman/bucks feud around revolution 2020 and the fact that matt very obviously still feels slighted by that (i mean, fair, it's not like hangman wasn't being shitty)

uhhhhhhhh so i sure did have some thoughts. didn't expect to write an essay but here you go

first creation and most recent creation of 2020: god, i already said this but giffing really became my #1 coping mechanism this year so i have a LOT of stuff just from this year. the first one is this THE WITCHER INTRO CARDS gifset and the most recent is actually my julie’s gifset from yesterday but i’m not satisfied with it so! i’m gonna say this KLAUS AND FIVE PARALLELS gifset instead.

one of your favorite creations from 2020: oof, this is super difficult because i get attached to most of my creations, even if they don’t come out as i initially hoped. i’ll go with this five gifset BIRDS HOVER THE TRAMPLED FIELD just because it’s a perfect example of a rare occurrence aka when both my inspiration and my vision and my skills align and i manage to create something exactly how i first imagined it. and also because i think there’s not better fitting poem for this man.

a creation you’re really proud of: i have a few but maybe this ODE TO NUMBER FIVE gifset just because i had a very specific vibe i wanted to give off and i think i managed alright with the colors, texture and design choices! and then i can’t not mention this YOU WERE ALWAYS GOLD TO ME gifset just because i literally poured all my heart into it. this song and these people mean so so much to me.

a new style you tried this year and a gifset that uses it: my style really evolved at the speed of light starting july and i still can’t believe the things i learned once i just let myself try. i keep having new ideas and trying really hard not to dismiss them and see if they work out, telling myself it’s okay if they don’t! i think this ALLISON HARGREEVES gifset basically has it all: the blending, the font work, the shape play. or even this JATP + BODIES OF WATER type of style, complex blending such as this one WILLEX SUPERSTAR is slowly becoming my trademark and i’m not mad about it, i love playing around with fonts like i did in this ALEXREGGIE gifset even if i know it gets really crowded and hard to read sometimes, or even with lines and block of colors like i did here JATP BORN FOR THIS, i finally got back to play around with textures JATP SCRAPBOOK and even JATP DISCOGRAPHY i also tried my hand at creating entire new “atmospheres” playing with specific visual choices like i did in the HARGREEVES AS PARANORMAL INVESTIGATORS set.

your favorite coloring: okay you guys know coloring is easily my favorite thing to do in the world and i’m usually pretty proud of every outcome because i remember how difficult it was for me, for years i thought i would never learn but i still did it, all by myself just keeping trying like a madwoman lmao basically all my the umbrella academy gifset are my pride and joy because did you see that show? how shitty the lighting is? gifmakers need a miracle every single time. so i’m gonna list a few that i still look at fondly ♥

a creation that took you forever: basically everything i do ahah just because one way or another i always get stuck on something for hours at end be it the fonts or the colors or the scene choices. but i’d say this STRONGER + HAGREEVES SIBLINGS gifset just because my inspiration went off and i decided i wanted to try a bunch of different techniques all at once and my brain didn’t let me rest until i did it all. to think it all started with just that “everyone will know me by a different name” line, oh my god.

your creation from 2020 that received the most notes: this VANYA + HER SIBLINGS LOVE gifset with 15.406 notes that i kinda hate because what’s up with that font? and the ugly coloring?! totally gonna remake this one because they deserve far better.

a creation you think deserved more notes: oh my god deep down i want to be selfish and say so many because that number never really match the effort i  put in most of my gifs but i’ve also learned not to get too bitter about that, few people rb it, even fewer people comment on it but those people are worth more than anyone else. if i had to chose i’d say either the ALWAYS GOLD TO ME set just because it means so much to me, this ALEXREGGIE set that was so fun to make and i love how the colors and the font work came out, this VANYA + EMPATHY set, and this SWEETIE LITTLE JEAN one.

a creation with a favorite scene/quote: i rarely do actual, canonical quotes and i never use just one scene gsjds- so i’ll go with this DIEGO + LOVE FOR HIS FAMILY one even if i don’t like the font and again ALEX&REGGIE being themselves.

a new fandom you joined and a creation you made for it: considering i was already the umbrella academy and the witcher obsessed i’d say the old guard (YOU KNOW ME WELL) and julie and the phantoms (FAVORITE FRIENDSHIP)

a creation you made that breaks your heart: oh, if you know me even one bit you also know i thrive on angsty feelings, they’re usually my main inspiration not gonna lie so choosing is not that simple! again, this KLAUS AND FIVE parallels gifset because of the sheer tragedy of their lives, this SWEETIE LITTLE JEAN five gifset, this KLAUS HARGREEVES one and this I WANNA BE NUMB AGAIN, this DEAR FORGIVENESS, YOUR BOOKER because this man is a walking tragedy (and this PIECES OF ME DIE ALL THE TIME too for good measure) and then this HARGREEVES SIBS + DAUGHTER gifset.

a ‘simple’ creation that you really love: i have brainworms and once i’ve learned how to do something i never manage to come back to the things i did before so i’ve rarely made “simpler” things lately. maybe this JATP + TIMES OF DAY still qualify.

the lovely @emisfritish​ tagged me in this and i find this to be very interesting and a positive way to look back into the year so!! here goes mine (this was so hard but oh well jsfhksj) (also there’s no order to this!! i love all of these equally 😊)

1. i love you (sarawat x tine). my first ever big fic!!! i think i wrote this in this two days which is.. too short for a 5.4k fic but oh well sjhksjf i feel very proud of it and i love it to this day 🥰🥰

2. (not from this blog, but from my kpop sideblog) my edit of blackpink’s how you like that teaser photos. this is the first ever edit i did on a photo but i really like it!! and yes i added it here because no one would ever tag me in that blog lmaooooo

3. episode 3 tine. just...... he’s so pretty. i really like both this and the sarawat version because it’s like... the time i figured out my colouring?? like the first time i used a consistent colouring for two gifsets sjfhksjf so yeah, i hold those dear to my heart <3

first creation and most recent creation of 2020:

My first creation was this Klaroline fic, a pseudo-Rapunzel fusion (with Klaus as Rapunzel, ofc). Although since it was for a secret exchange, I’m going to cheat and link the first post of a creation in my blog, aka this short BatCat smutty one-shot.

My most recent one is this excerpt from one of my original stories, a sci-fi space opera wip. The two main characters (and the wlw lead couple) meeting for the first time. Fandom-wise, my last gifset posted (although there are more ready in the queue) is this Maxanne-Silverflint parallel from s02e01. Of which I’m very proud.

I have literally 20 pages of new stuff created this year lol, so shorting through that it’s... a lot. I think my favourite creations over all others are the ones I’ve made for my original stuff, especially the excerpts. It had been a long time since I could focus on original creations ^-^

a creation you’re really proud of: 

I held out and made content all through Femslash February, I’m proud of that. I’m also proud of this BTVS’ Kendra-centric one-shot, because it finally got me out of my funk, fic-wise.

a new style you tried this year and a gifset that uses it:

I don’t know that I’ve tried new styles, other than simply trying out sharpenings, colouring etc. lol. I experiment more with graphics than with gifsets, I guess? I really liked how my header, a Max from Black Sails edit, came out

your favourite colouring:

I’m proud of this one in a Pepperony-Klaroline parallel set, because it took effort to make them look similar lol. This one for a snowkru/bad bitches kru parallel set was lovely too (here in big form). And this one in a Maxanor-Flintmiranda parallel set. I’m also quite proud of how I manage to color dark scenes like this Flint one lol.

a creation that took you forever:

Compilation gifsets take sooooo long lmao. Most recently, this Silverflint set felt like it took YEARS.

your creation from 2020 that received the most notes:

According to one of those stat sites, it’s this Pepper x Natasha IM2 gifset. The MCU fandom provides notes lol. It still doesn’t have as many notes as my silly shit-post about Asriel and Marisa being shitty parents xD, but that’s from 2019 alas. Hell, I only have three gifsets with more notes than that text post (a Lucas fashion set from Stranger Things; this Eleanor Shellstrop in a leather jacket thirst-trap set; and another Stranger Things set of Steve being Awkward(TM)).

a creation you think deserved more notes:

All of them lmfao *is conceited*. Especially my original stuff!! And everything in the #my graphics or #my icons tags. Those need to be appreciated too!!

I’ve done some of what I call “meta edits” lol, of simple scenes that I think say a lot about writing/fandom/human nature/Etc. This Louis Litt edit; this Caroline Forbes edit; this Nikita scene; or all these edits from Reign.

I’m coming up blank with this one. I’m not saying my ideas come from out of nowhere lol, but I don’t tend to grab 1:1 inspo for edits etc.

So long story short I came back to tumblr this year after my blog was FINALLY unmarked explicit. So I started giffing again and learned so much and I feel like you can really see the improvement in my gifs which I love but these are my top 5 sets I made for the year, plus some honorable mentions 🤗

1. Lucifer Tarot Card gifset

This one took me forever because I colored the tarot card pngs as well as the gifs and then blended them together but god I love this set and I got so much positive feedback and love from people so this one is my definite favorite.

2. Deckerstar Parallel gifset

So this one doesn’t really have any special coloring or typography or anything it just honestly made my cry making it because god we all waited so long for chloe and lucifer to finally get together, and lucifer really has come so far and he cares about her so much and well yeah this one just makes me so emo 😭😭

3. Regina Mills gifset

I made this one for @dailytvwomen (shameless plug lol give us a follow!) and I wasn’t really feeling it when I first posted it but it got so much positive love and now looking back I actually love it lmao and it makes me miss giffing ouat

4. Lucifer Cinematography gifset

So I actually hated this one so much at first lol. I made it the weekend that lucifer came out and it just sat in my drafts for like 2 weeks til I finally was like screw it I’m just gonna post it, totally thinking it would flop. And it did for like a day or two. Then it actually started getting a good amount of notes and over time I’ve changed my mind on it and love it and am probably going to make it a series at some point and do every season. Anyways I just love how getting validation from your art along with a little space away from it can make you totally change your mind on it. (CONSTANT REMINDER TO SUPPORT CONTENT CREATORS AND REBLOG THINGS !!)

5. Lucifer Morningstar gifset

I made this one pretty early in my return to giffing so it isn’t perfect but I do really like my coloring (that top right gif 😍) and the color combo a lot and I just think lucifer looks so good in purple

Purple and orange is one of my favorite color combos and I think my coloring here came out really good especially the first phoebe gif

I also wasn’t so sure about this set at first but I think I had just worked on it too long and I feel like anything I stare at too long a start hating so now looking back this set’s coloring came out very nice and I’m super proud of that first and last gif

9. Caskett set

Really went wild with blending with this one lol and I just find it really funny I used a Michael Scott quote as some super serious romantic quote

one of your favorite creations from 2020: oh god, it’s so hard to choose there are so many! i know this anidala + happiness by taylor swift  gifset is recent, but i really love how it turned out! ps crashed so many times while making it though, i wanted to yeet my computer off a cliff!!!

a creation you’re really proud of: obi wan and anakin + my tears ricochet by taylor swift gifset i made for my 4k celebration ( which i still havent completed bc i suck ). this gifset i’m really proud of because i was trying new things, and i love the end result!

a new style you tried this year and a gifset that uses it: this ahsoka tano character profile gifset! i’ve made similar stuff before, but this was a different kind of style i wasn’t very used to. still, i like how it turned out and it makes me realize how much i see myself in ahsoka as well bc we share a lot of the same things according to google!

your favorite coloring: ngl,,, i really like coloring star wars: rebels,,, even tho i hardly gif it. ahsoka’s iconic “i’m no jedi” scene and her defeating the inquisitor are very pretty colorings to me! also, this parallel gifset of anakin and ahsoka is a good one too!

a creation you think deserved more notes: i actually have a few that i spent a lot of time on and was a bit sad that they didn’t get a lot of attention. this centuries gifset really flopped, even though i really liked how it turned out. this really angsty harry potter gifset that i cried over. i probably have more, but i’m too lazy to check.

Stylistically I’ve grown a lot since then, but it’s still a cute set. Most recent one is the Unhinged Ruth Wilson Cinematic Universe, which tbh is a pretty good representation of my current stuff lmao

I’m really proud of how I still made the colours go together for parallel scenes. It can be hard to make a set look cohesive if you can’t got through and choose the scenes based on their aesthetic value if that makes sense

a new style you tried this year and a gifset that uses it: I’m not very experimental stylistically, but I think the hdm rewatch is the first time I really payed attention to colour and boosted or changed colour to fit with the set
