Is there any specific pop culture character you’d like to see a ‘guide’ type post about? All I can think of is Disney and the like, so I thought I’d ask the community. Any specific pop culture sources?

Plurality & Paganism: An Introspective
If any of you keep up with my main (@sinfulauthor), you may have noticed this post, along with my new pinned post. In short, I've come to the realization (after burying the thought of it for many years) that we are a Collective.
Now, how does this impact this blog and my craft?
To start off, this blog's content will remain the same. It will still primarily act as an e-grimoire with some additional posts, but the people posting what content will change. Specifically, these people:
-Alex (they/them), the host (hi!). I'll generally do most of the talking/posting. Works with The Signless/Sufferer and Dionysus. ANP that the IRL coven knows. (I'm not open with them about being a Collective just yet.)
-Vaati (he/him), who works with Demise and focuses on divination. Writes solely in cursive and gets VERY frustrated when grimoire notes are in standard print.
-Ghira (he/him), who works with Demise closer than Vaati for Obvious Reasons™️. (Though he generally doesn't do any actual spellwork, just offerings, worship, and altar setup.)
-Karkat (he/they) on occasion, solely because Signless HAS shown himself to him and is very much a Dad™️.
-Toko (she/her) has not yet "awakened." She was a former kin heavily associated with our craft. Taking bets on her being a spellcrafter/writer.
So, now that the roll call is done, onto some other stuff regarding plurality and paganism, the introspection the title mentions. (This will be below the cut as it's not as integral to the "functioning" of this blog.)
So, coming to the realization as a system was... interesting. We first became aware of dissociative disorders through Danganronpa (Yes, Toko's horrible representation. We know.) and related to Toko heavily. At the time, we were heavily involved in the Fictionkin community and had "memories" of those "timelines." However, this relatability on the DID aspect was soon hidden under the guise of "I like to write, and so does she! Also super traumatized like me lmao," and then we didn't think about it for five more years.
Come 2023, we've relapsed for the first time in four years and are going through some pretty traumatic stuff again. At an Esbat in September, an argument breaks out that causes us to dissociate and brings up those really painful feelings from childhood. Nothing felt real, and the rest of the night was foggy. (The people in the argument have since apologized. It was also an extremely stressful night due to our old High Priest being ousted for sexual misconduct not even 4 hours before we started.)
At this point, this whole debacle causes us to realize, "Hey, this isn't really a normal trauma response. There might be something else going on." We have a lot of friends who are systems, and we went to them asking, "Hey, do you like. think we're a system?" and FIVE OF THEM SNIFFED US OUT YEARS AGO AND DIDN'T BOTHER TO TELL US??? Like maybe that would have been useful information, idk (We still love our friends to bits, though)
So, fast forward to 2024. Still in the process of diagnosis but receiving trauma-focused therapy to process things. It's been a long process of figuring out how to live/function as someone with a dissociative disorder, but we're learning.
Thankfully, having a good support network has been a great help. We have an almanac (specifically The Practical Witch's 2024 Almanac by Friday Gladheart) to track our craft/spiritual work, and it's interesting to see the input of everyone in the collective. It's a lot of taking things day by day and seeing how things go, but we feel the energy around us changing.
Anyway, ramble over. If y'all read this to the end, thanks for sticking around. I've got some other posts we plan on making, so keep an eye out for those, too.
Signing off,
Alex of the Magic Collective

Going onto TikTok to see if there's any interesting Pop Culture Paganism stuff and only finding stuff about egregores :/
Egregore? Nope
Egregore? Nope
Collective belief? Nope
Using popular icons? Nope
Egrefore? Nope
Maybe that's the more common way to practice PCP but it is vastly removed from my own beliefs and views 💀

hi! sorry to bother you, but i would like to get into pop culture paganism and am intimidated by all the.. everything people are talking about that i dont understand. do you have the most basic, "explain it like im four" crash course for learning PCP? [i feel the need to specify, i dont think im interested in being a witch at this time, i just have a pop culture deity id like to venerate] [i think thats the right word? worship? work with? idk]
thank you very much!
I'll happily help, anon.
WARNING! This post is a very, very basic introduction to Pop Culture Paganism, and I'm writing from my own perspective. There's no way I can cover everything. Please let me rest.
Let's start with some abbreviations:
PCM = Pop Culture Magic, the usage of elements of pop culture in one's magical or spiritual practice
PCP = Pop Culture Paganism, the usage of elements of pop culture (including but not limited to pop culture deities or characters-as-deities) in or as one's religious practice
PCD = Pop Culture Deity, an entity who is worshiped as or is a deity in their source material
PCE = Pop Culture Entity, any entity from a pop culture source (any PCD is a PCE, but not all PCEs are PCDs)
And some of my own definitions (yours may not be the same!):
Veneration/worship = including a figure in your religious practice
Work = creating an agreement with a figure in a magical or spiritual practice, which may or may not be religious in nature
Devotion = worshiping one deity above all others, that deity becoming your patron
All of these have been greatly simplified for ease of use in this guide.
PCP can be done in addition to or in place of other religions. Due to the nature of the phrase "paganism", a polytheist approach is implied but ultimately isn't necessary - there are plenty of pop culture pagans who only worship one PCD/PCE. I practice both PCP and """mainstream""" polytheism.
PCP can be done in addition to PCM, but the two can also be mutually exclusive. I, personally, practice both PCP and PCM.
The primary appeal of PCP is that it is deeply personal. Many people who engage in PCP find that starting their religious practice from the ground up, or in using familiar religious practices from their culture that they're used to, is a lot of fun. Others love the source material(s) that they're drawing from so much that practicing PCP is just a natural way to continue expressing their love for it. There are a thousand reasons to practice PCP.
Some of the """mainstream""" polytheism issues appear in PCP, too. Gatekeeping, cliques, the insistence that deities have to "choose" you...a lot of toxic ideas tend to show up, just because of how online spaces work nowadays.
"That's great, Jasper, but how do we actually do this?" I'm getting there, dear readers, I promise.
Decide your approach. What pop culture source are you drawing from? A video game? Music? A book series, or even a standalone book?
Outreach. Do you build an altar or shrine? Make an offering? Write a poem or invitation? Pray? Wait for the PCD/PCE to reach out first? Do you create them yourself?
Set expectations. What are you going to do? What do you expect? Do you want to communicate back and forth, or just pray and not expect a direct answer? Figure out what you want.
Continue developing. Your PCP practice will likely not remain the same as time goes on. Let it grow, and let yourself grow with it.
Hopefully this is a very beginner-friendly 101 style post! For further resources, please check out my Pop Culture Magic/Paganism Resources Masterpost.

an introduction to irl pretty cures ♡
Tumblr media
so, you’ve stumbled upon my humble corner of the internet. maybe you’re looking into the irl magical girl community for the first time, or you’ve been here a while and you’re looking around. maybe you’ve stumbled upon this from the topic of pop culture witchcraft or reality shifting, or the entire genre of magical girls, specifically pretty cure. no matter where you came here from, welcome!
before you proceed, please refer to my pinned post! thank you!
and with that said, let’s get started ~
Tumblr media
what is a pretty cure ?
if you came here specifically from the pretty cure fandom, then you already know what it is! either way, let me give you a quick rundown. pretty cure is a metaseries by toei animation, a franchise consisting of multiple media formats (primarily anime) that has been around since 2004!
there are currently 21 main seasons, with the main premise of each being people who become magical heroes called pretty cure (or precure)! although the majority of characters are teenage girls, pretty cure has began a subtle message of “anyone can be a pretty cure” in recent years- from nonhumans to boys to adults, and anything in between, and this phrase holds true here as well!
no matter where you’re from, no matter your background or your identity, you can become a pretty cure!
Tumblr media
what is pop culture witchcraft / paganism ?
pop culture witchcraft (pcw) and pop culture paganism (pcp) are practices that involves using concepts from pop culture in a spiritual manner. witchcraft is more of energy work, and is inherently non-religious, while paganism entails worshipping a fictional concept or character as a deity, such as egregores.
we are going to focus more on pcw, the witchcraft aspect of this!
pop culture witchcraft is very fluid, and can be practiced any way you see fit. it is a subcategory of chaos magic! you can be of any religion or spiritual belief to practice pcw, and if you follow a religion such as christianity you can even tie pcw into your religious beliefs and traditions if you so wish.
as an example, you can do magic with a smile pact toy, or a keychain or pin of a character, or incorporate practices based on- not even directly involving- your favorite media. the possibilities are endless and it’s always so fun to explore!
Tumblr media
what are subliminals ?
subliminals, derived from the term "subliminal messages", are audio or visual media created with the intention of helping your mind process reality in a way that you consciously desire. reality is malleable to your will, and subliminals can help with that!
it is EXTREMELY important to note that YOU DON'T NEED SUBLIMINALS TO GET ANY RESULTS. they speed up the process on a subconscious level and can boost you a bit but its important to not become reliant on them!
i will be making a separate post on subliminals if anyone is interested!
Tumblr media
putting it all together . . .
combine these concepts together, and we have the idea of becoming a real-life pretty cure! but where to start?
i will be making more detailed posts on this soon, but to be concise:
you can begin scripting. what do you aspire to be, as a pretty cure? what do you want to represent, whether that be as superficial as a color or a motif, or as deep as what positive change you want to become to the world? what magical items do you want, if at all; same with mascots or teammates?
look into abilities to practice; mainly psychic abilities, or wish granting, as these are very easy abilities to practice. elemental magic is a little more advanced, so start small!
physical training is just as important! of course, this is not necessary, as magic can and will accomodate for anything you may struggle with (which i understand as i am physically disabled), but you need to at the very least have a quick mind and make sure you can fight!
look into the four shift phases: fantasy, mental, astral, and physical. i will be making a detailed post on how this applies to being a pretty cure!
Tumblr media
in the meantime, feel free to ask me questions in my ask box! i do not allow anon questions at this time, so please keep this in mind, and try to be respectful in my asks!
i will be following up with more posts very soon to explain things in detail! thank you for reading, and i hope you'll stay tuned for more ~ !

Pop culture paganism was always something I thought I'd never touch, because... I don't know. I was highly interested in history and the modern revivalist efforts of ancient practices. I've been through a lot with my nebulous spiritual practice- it felt right it but it never felt right. My upbringing was only tangentially religious (Catholic), I didn't know for certain spirituality was meant to be in my life at all. Astrology and cartomancy can be used secularly anyway.
This year I settled on guiding myself with whatever felt meaningful rather than solely relying on research. And the spirits and symbols found in the Legend of Zelda series are as meaningful as anything else to me, especially from Skyward Sword. I'm still doing research of course but pop culture paganism is very new. It seems like it's mostly UPG. I'm trying not to put too much pressure on myself to do things right/wrong anymore and just carry the values of power, wisdom, courage and light within me.
I'm not a Shinto practitioner but I visit shrines to pay my respects when I'm out, since it's a formalized institutional religion I keep everything Shinto separate from my worship of Hylia and the Golden Goddesses. The Legend of Zelda is notably inspired by Shinto but obviously not belonging to the same system.
I'm not particularly interested in summoning and speaking to actual spirits, though. I leave offerings and pray which is enough for me at this time.
Any other Hyrulian PCPs are welcome to chat!

we're considering starting TMA PCP. would you mind sharing how you first contacted the entities? it's been quite some time since we've reached out to a new deity and even longer since we've reached out to a new pantheon, so we're a bit nervous and unsure on how to do so
Hey there! I totally understand being nervous, and we'd be more than happy to share!
We went into tma pcp as we would any other type of spirit work. Here's just a really quick breakdown of what we do:
Research, research, research
This might be hard since they're not historical deities with a history to back them up, but look into the lore of the Fears
Surround yourself with imagery of who you're trying to reach
Again, there aren't really correspondences you can go off of from historic worship, but trust your gut (and maybe do some divination to see what they would like) i.e the Eye would probably like eye imagery, green stones, etc, while the End might like bones or taxidermy. Don't be afraid to ask around to see what works for other people
Making first contact
After you've done all this for a while and feel ready (maybe seeing some signs), start actually reaching out. Do some divination with the entity, see what they're like and what they expect from the relationship. Don't forget about giving an offering when doing this
Offerings
Try to keep up with offerings as much as possible. They don't have to be huge rituals every time, but burning some incense or doing a small devotional act or prayer every once and a while will work wonders!
In our experience, pc entities are harder to offend than historical ones, mostly cause there's no history of "bad offerings/behavior" though I understand the nervousness. And remember, you can always start with worship and see where it goes from there! Good luck with your pcp journey!

I wanted to write this all down so that I can lay down my base and continue from there in future posts.
I didn't think I was going to, but I've finally decided to get into Puella Magi Madoka Magica-based religion.
Like, I formed as a magical girl* in a very different way, but I have been drawn into PMMM pop culture paganism. It just clicks for me, in so many ways! Plus the use of the grief seed that I've talked about. So I plan to do more PMMM craft work and also practice Godoka and Homucifer worship.
I wouldn't say I'm converting religions... but there are some tennants of Kos' teachings that just aren't a part of my life anymore. I still keep Kos in my heart as a deity I treasure and love and respect immensely but Lila and Ev just aren't in my life at this time, and PMMM pcp is calling to me right now.
Also, I've recently switched up how I make the grief seeds and soul gems in my shop (so now they're more accurate and bigger!) and I really wanna put a Godoka and Homucifer shrine on my altar so I can make these charms under their watch and recieve their blessings, so that the charms are charged with intent that will assist the wearer. I'm not gonna advertise that, I don't think most customers would care, but I wanna do it from the kindness of my heart and also to get practice in.
One last thing: I've noticed that alot of the PMMM pcp blogs I follow have been abadoned, so if you reblog/post/etc that kinda stuff, feel free to promote yourself on this post! I plan to post more of that too, soon. Ngl I might make short videos about it, idk if I wanna do Youtube shorts or Tiktoks but either way, I'm mustering up the courage to share my craft.
*I am fine being called a magical girl because it honors the girls who paved the way and also I am a fan of making gendered terms like that gender neutral and accessible to everyone.

MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE & THE OUTLINE: HIGHLIGHTS & SET LIST!
December 12, 2006
Tumblr media
Words can't really describe what The Outline & My Chemical Romance did to over 2,000 screaming fans on Monday night at the House of Blues in Vegas.
But since that's my job - here goes....
MCR fans started showing up about 36 hours before the show!  They waited oh-so-patiently (if a little obsessively) in the casino for the big moment.  15 minutes before doors opened, the excitement in the air was palpable as the crowd, packed in like cattle, prepared for the stampede.
Meanwhile, I won $6.75 playing the slots.
The Outline took the stage first, and totally wowed everyone with their brand of rough, aggressive rock 'n roll.  Their set up is the classic 2 guitars, bass, keys, drums - sometimes they're primal; sometimes they're straight-ahead, but always they rokk.
Lead singer Graham Fink strutted around the stage, slinging his hair like hash, and the crowd ate it all up.  He's an excellent frontman - good witty banter, he introduced songs & he plugged the band's name often.  At the end of their set, drummer Ryan Rabin threw his sticks into the ocean of people, and they were snapped up like a Barry Bonds' homerun ball.
Then the HOB crew set up the Black Parade banner in front of the stage.  As it rose higher & higher, so too did the ferocity of teenage screams - building into a "We want My Chem" - clap-clap-clapclapclap mantra.  Normally I wear earplugs at shows for the band - this time I had to protect my fragile ears from the rabid fans!
Finally - THE moment arrived and MCR took the stage.  GWay revealed, "I always wanted to be a Vegas showgirl - this will have to do!"
Of course, the packed house of 2k+ was singing along.  And when I say singing along, I mean they sang every word of every verse and every chorus of every song.  I'm completely serious.
The waltz-time "Mama" reminded me of jangling skeletons as Gerard pranced around like an underworld dandy, pale cheeks sucked in.  Meanwhile, security was lifting smooshed fans to safety, including a mother and her young son.
Gerard is truly a gifted and astonishing front man.  He's just got so much damn energy - like a band leader on PCP.  This was especially true on "Black Parade" as he orchestrated 2,000 hand thrusts en masse.  In fact, I think that guy has a hand gesture for every lyric.  Before launching into the chorus, he yelled, "Vegas - I wanna hear you sing every @#$%ing word!"  Mosh pockets and crowd surfing ensued, while Ray Toro shredded triumphantly ala Queen.
This was a perfect example of the amazingly seamless give-and-take of energy between MCR and their raving fans.  Its a chicken & egg thing, so its impossible to say whose energy is feeding whom, but the crowd was able to respond immediately to whatever vocal or rhythmic demands Gerard placed on them.  Its a good thing he didn't tell them to drink red koolaid.
I also noticed that he seems to have studied from the great front-men who came before him.  There was Jagger's Rooster Strut, Hendrix's Finger Worshipping on Bended Knees, Axl Rose's Mic Slither, among others.
BTW - I think there should be a Black Parade Workout Video.  You'd definitely get in shape, if you could keep up.  Plus, since you'd be wearing black - you'd sweat A WHOLE LOT.
Oh yeah - I need to give a shout-out to the really stellar lighting job at this show.  I don't know your name, but you do your job VERY WELL.
I'd also like to give my commendations to all the parents who came to the show with their younguns.  Many of you seemed just as fanatic about MCR as your kids!  If my parents had been that cool when I was a kid, my teen angst would've been severely mitigated.
MCR dedicated "I Don't Love You" to "our very special friend," Rob Cavallo.  Hopefully that wasn't a secret message.
Frank, Ray & Mikey were using wireless instruments.  This allowed for unprecedented stage thrashability.
Between the show and the encore, the fans sounded like the primate house at the zoo just before feeding time.  When MCR took the stage again, Gerard was feeling gracious:  "Thank you all so much for coming out and @#$%ing believing in this.  We've been doing this for 5 years and it doesn't get harder - it gets a whole lot more fun!"
The lighters were broken out for "Cancer", the first encore.  Its just so MEANINGFUL, man!
The show was definitely a black mass presided over by MCR, with the congregation reaching a feverish, ecstatic state.  I almost expected people to start babbling in tongues.
Afterwards, the Meet & Greet was like a well-oiled machine.  Maybe they've done this a few times?
1.  The End 2.  Dead! 3.  Disappear 4.  Not Okay 5.  Cemetery 6.  Mama 7.  The Black Parade 8.  I Don't Love You 9.  Venom 10.  Teenagers 11.  Give Em Hell 12.  House Of Wolves 13.  Famous 14.  Prison --> ENCORE 1.  Cancer 2.  Helena
OH - And dude that gave me the CD for his band THE SCIENCE......I handed it directly to Gerard Way.  He says he listens to every album he gets.  Good luck!
What'd y'all think of the show?!

genuine question for people who practice PCM/PCP —
is it possible to worship/work with/etc pop culture deities who are adaptations of deities from other pantheons (ie hellenic, norse)?
for example, working with hades from the hades game instead of hades from the hellenic pantheon? (does that make sense?)
(i don’t plan on doing this or anything, just a thought that came into my head and am very curious about now haha)

Cinema of Trangression. p1
Where Evil Dwells
Tommy Turner, David Wojnarowicz. U.S, 1985, 28 min
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Where Evil Dwells
************************************************************************
Tumblr media
CINEMA OF TRANSGRESSION
Over the course of my future posts, I will suggest that you discover or review the films of the Cinema of Transgression - "Cinema Of Transgression", subversive, chaotic and depraved, essential to the scenes of the No-Wave movement of the 80s and underground cinema. New Yorker.
Key transgressive filmmakers, including Nick Zedd, Richard Kern, Casandra Stark, Beth B, Tommy Turner, Tessa Hughes-Freeland, and others like Lydia Lunch, Joe Coleman and David Wojnarowicz, along the lines of pop-trash 'Andy Warhol of course, by Paul Morissey, Jack Smith, George & Mike Kuchar, or John Waters and many others.
IIustrations, performances, rare and often sounds disturbing, Cinema of Transgression is a chaotic and spontaneous, sexual, marginal, brutal and stillborn movement. Nothing you can't ignore.
Beware all the same it will shake! Keep the fragile ones away.
These are not films to summarize. But to watch
Here are the first two for today. (Second one follows in another post)
Originally titled, Satan Teens, Where Evil Dwells is an unfinished collaboration with Tommy Turner. In September 1985, Wojnarowicz and Turner began writing a script based on a 1984 report on Long Island about a teenage boy worshiping Satan committing murder. The script took three nights. Ricky Kasso, the chief abuser of PCP, murdered his 17-year-old friend Gary Lauwers in Northport, Long Island by stabbing him repeatedly and tearing out his eyes. Kasso bragged about the murder, showing Lauwers incredulous friends breaking down the body, while claiming that Satan had approved. He was eventually arrested and hanged himself in prison before his 18th birthday. Wojnarowicz and Turner not only found the humorous but also symbolic story of the generation
The film was originally filmed on an 8mm Canon camera, which Turner borrowed from Richard Kern. Although Turner claims that the audio and images were lost in a fire, Fales Library and Special Collections has two reels of Super 8mm film directly from the original camera. The film can be viewed with original audio fragments, including voiceovers spoken through a Howdy Doody doll and Wiseblood's song Where Evil Dwells.
Jim Thirlwell, at the time a leader of the group Wiseblood and known as the leader of the industrial metal group Fetus, offered his song to Ricky Kasso for use in the film, provided that the title of the song is also the film title, Where Evil Dwells.

How to Start Pop Culture Deity Research
So you’ve figured out that you want to work with a pop culture deity in your foray into pop culture magic and/or paganism (PCM or PCP). Firstly, congratulations! Choosing to work with a deity first instead of waiting for them to reach out is always nerve-wracking, and I’m proud of you for getting this far!
“Thank you, Jasper. But how do I do research into the pop culture deity?” you may ask. Pop culture deities tend to get little press, and you’re not alone in your struggle to find information on offerings, associations, or even domain. As I only work with pop culture deities at this time, that’s what I’m covering here. I’m also not going to cover picking the deity, as that’s a deeply personal process and is honestly just like picking a non-pop culture deity to work with or worship.
Luckily, there are six basic steps that you can take:
1: Scour canon and supplemental materials.
Checking the canon material is kinda self-explanatory for pop culture magic. While non-canon materials can often contradict canon, they can also provide some further insight into a character (when written well). If you’re working with a deity from supplemental material, I wish you luck, because this is going to be more irritating.
2: Fandom wikis.
If you don’t have access to the canon/supplemental material, fandom wikis are a good backup. They are sources of knowledge that are absolutely dedicated to a piece of media and can help you learn more about a specific pop culture deity without making you play through a series of 60+ hour games or spending a small fortune on books if you don’t have a library or your library doesn’t have the series.
3: See if anyone else has covered the deity in a PCP context.
For more popular series such as the Elder Scrolls or the Legend of Zelda, their deities may already be worked with by other pop culture pagans online. Trying to find PCP spaces (Tumblr tags, Discord servers, etc) can help you learn others’ perspectives on the deity you’re trying to study for.
4: Check fandom writing blogs.
Headcanon and fandom writing blogs are a pop culture pagan’s best friend. These fine folks put endless hours, often for free, into some top notch stuff. Many take requests or commissions, and you can tip them for their help. Really, go befriend a writing blog right now.
5: Unverified Personal Gnosis (UPG) and personal headcanons.
I consider these two things to be the same but some other magic practitioners say that UPG comes from experience and headcanons are just “there”, so take whatever definition you’d like. They’re essentially the same in a PCP context because non-pop culture practitioners are going to treat everything you ever say as UPG and fandom blogs (because you will inevitably get those unless you make a point of saying “this is a religious post, fandom blogs do not interact”) will think they’re just weird headcanons written from an in-universe perspective. You really can’t win here.
Anyway, through personal experience and associations, you can learn more and more what a pop culture deity is associated with. This is an important step in the process of any form of deity relationships, not just with pop culture deities.
6: Just ask the deity.
At this point, you’ve decided that you want to work with this deity. You’ve done your deep-dive into canon. You’ve reached out and learned a few initial things. Now, you’re talking to the PCP deity in some manner, so any questions you have about them...you can just ask.
This ties back into number 5, in that whatever you find out with be UPG/a headcanon because you can’t point to something in canon.
