Hyrule(an Magic) Historia: An Effort for Archival
Greetings. It's my first time posting on this blog, so it's nice to meet you all.
The purpose of this post is to detail my behind-the-scenes effort to archive as many of the lost Hyrulean Paganism/Magic blogs and posts as possible. For those unaware, in the mid-2010s, there was a "renaissance" of The Legend of Zelda Pop Culture Pagan posts and blogs. The pantheon/practice went by many names, such as Mudoran Magic, Hyrulean/Hylian Magic, Hyrulean Paganism, etc. As a result, efforts to find remaining content can be complicated, especially when perusing tags. Different phrases were used for various blogs and posts, sometimes leading to dead ends.
Thankfully, there are some leads. @lostwoodstarryskies made a list of blogs, both old and new, here. This is a good start and helps navigate search engines such as Google more efficiently. Additionally, this post by the now-defunct @/hylianshrinemaiden (more on her later) lists additional blogs.
Now, to Twili (hylianshrinemaiden). While we (the Magic Collective) weren't in the same Pop Culture Pagan circles at the same time, it's clear she was a pillar in the community. It's a shame that she and other active members deleted their blogs, as Tumblr's archival system is half-functional at best. There is some hope of recovering her blog, however. @hyrulian-legends reblogged this post from her, listing various spells and resources from her. While it's not entirely clear if this list is her complete work, it at least gives names to her work. Through this list, I've had some luck on Google, and a surviving reblog of her Minish Cap Glamour was found here. I'm not sure what else is available, as I became un-frontstuck when I was planning on searching further. (Such is the way of systems.)
I plan on delving further into what remains, and I'm very grateful to the remaining community members for their advice on where to look. Many thanks, in particular, to @knightofhylia, @knightofhylia-sageofthetriforce, @wind-sage-serin, and @lostwoodstarryskies. Additionally, those in the Community of Hyrulean Faiths Discord server provide resources.
There remain some posts in the Collective's communal Likes that we plan on sharing upon adding to our Grimoire document, so expect those somewhere down the line. In the meantime, I'll continue my search and bring updates whenever possible.
Sincerely,
Vaati the Wind Mage 🌪️

Introduction to Puella Magi 101- A Guide for Prospective Magical Girls.
I am well aware that Pop-culture Witchcraft and Paganism are incredibly niche topics. And in my findings, PC based practices surrounding an anime well over ten years old are even more so. But, still I find myself deeply drawn to the idea. But unlike other fandoms with luckily some semblance of practitioners and sparse information surrounding the witchy application of the ideas of the original work, I've only been able to dig up only a few posts on specifically Madoka Magica based paganism/witchcraft.
Some of this information relates to the worship of Madoka and Homura as the cyclic beings of balance, but this intends to be a much more practical guide. Outlining how one can become a magical girl, as well as touching on the paradigm I use in this pursuit. But even those posts are lacking in any real substance, I find. They're good, sure but that's an issue I often come across- with so little to go on, building a religious practice around something becomes harder and less profound.
So, I hope to rectify this lack of information as I recount my own journey to become a magical girl, and provide a guide for you all on how to do the same, as well as hopefully opening up a place for real world Puella Magi to communicate.
Now, I know you're probably thinking- Why on earth would being a magical girl be at all alluring to you or anybody else? The entire show was about how awful and tragic it is to become one. How despair and pain is not just expected, but fated for those who undertake this path, What sane person would be creating instruction for that kind of process, or seeking to become a magical girl at all? To which I respond, what sane person would be worshiping marvel's Loki on a pillar candle with a shrine in their closet.
We're all a little mad in this sphere, and it's okay to be a little nuts, life would be far less interesting otherwise.
But, so more sincerely answer that question without being a snide ass, the monkey’s paw effect of contracts is exactly what intrigues me and drives me to make this guide. A form of harm reduction, if you will. To rectify a long line of stories where the girls are uninformed as to the process and that itself leads them to despair. While the forces of hope and despair must be kept in balance, which will incur a toll for any miracle you decide to bring about with your wish, at least part of your suffering won’t be because you were uninformed about what you were signing with the incubator.  The promise of a wish is a very powerful thing, and while the idea might be a foreign uncertainty to you, for others even the opportunity is incredibly hopeful.
So, if you like me, want to become a magical girl, I highly recommend you follow me here and check back from time to time to see resources posted.

Hello, and welcome to my blog! Here I teach Warrior Cats Pop Culture Paganism.. Today's lesson is:
StarClan Altar Guide!
Now I'm not here to tell you what's right and what's wrong, but more so what's good to have on your altar!
So the main two things that are good to have are;
A statue/idol of a cat. I have 3 on my altar.
An offering bowl.
And other things you can have are:
Crystals, especially quartz or moonstone, selenite is good too!
Candles.
Incense holder with a stick ready.
A tarot deck. (Psst! Cat Tarot is the perfect deck for this, in my opinion!)
Anything and anything that reminds you of StarClan, or the Warrior Cats series in general.
A bowl or container of moon water.
You don't need these things by the way! An altar is sometimes even more simpler than that!
Tumblr media
©unknown, more below the cut.
My altar is arranged in the way that makes the cat idols the main focus, but you can do your altar up however you want.
Tumblr media
You can absolutely use my altar as a reference if needed! I personally don't have a lot of room on my altar, so I prefer to keep it more simple.
One thing you should definitely do though, is cleanse your altar space before you set it up. Then you should invite StarClan into your space after you have set the altar up. Let them know this space is for them.
That's all for now, I hope you enjoy setting up your altar dedicated to StarClan! And safe travels, warrior!

I've crafted two cups for the Pheonix Witch and her watchful eye. They will likely be turned into candles, especially as my cup (the smaller one) cannot hold much. My best friend and fellow worshiper carved and painted their cup and I'm extremely excited to glaze them and place them upon our respective altars.

hey!! so i am currently interested in undertale paganism a lot, and i was wondering if you have any tips for getting started?
and if you have the time, any chara correspondences? thanks!!
Hey, sorry for taking a bit to answer!
First off, if you haven't already, check out the pop culture paganism tag for some general ideas. This post is my favorite for explaining things. That being said, your starting point largely depends on what you're drawn to, what meaning you find in the game, and what you're hoping to become through it. For instance, are you hoping to grow into a more merciful person? More determined? Maybe you want to embody all seven soul traits? Or perhaps you just draw comfort from the characters themselves and want to have some sort of spiritual relationship with them? That's okay too!
Soul searching aside, I would suggest your first move be to pick just one character and try building a relationship with just them. Whichever one you're most drawn to, or whoever most embodies what you're looking for. Try to reach out to them, talk to them, give them offerings, and ask them for guidance. An important thing to keep in mind with pop culture entities, though, is that not all of them would be comfortable being worshipped or treated as a god. Depending on who you're working with, it might be a good idea to try just honoring them as a person and/or mentor until you get a better feel of their boundaries. Once you're comfortable with them and vice versa, you might find yourself drawn to another character, another character may reach out to you in some way, or your first character may introduce another character to you themselves. In my case, for my Deltarune practice, I started with Jevil, who might in Seam for me, who introduced Diamond King to me.
Aside from that, the wonderful thing about Undertale is that it has its virtues built right in. Focusing on mercy and the seven soul traits is a great way to practice Undertale paganism, and the souls/traits themselves could easily be revered in their own right (perhaps as something akin to angels?). For instance, your practice could include embodying one trait for each day of the week. Of course, the characters themselves will have their own lessons to teach you, and you could even call on them as guardian spirits if you need their specific skills.
As for Chara, they're a tricky character to nail down (just look at the fandom). Their associations really depend on how you see them, but in a sense, that could be a trait in and of itself. Chara is the one who calls out to their brother in the final battle and brings him peace, but they're also the one who, after being forced to kill everyone they love, decides that if they're going to do it, they at least want to do it by their own power, and you don't get to change your mind after they've lost everything. They were bitter enough to want to kill the humans who attacked them and Asriel, but they were also willing to sacrifice their life to save the monsters. They are, basically, the grey area between Frisk and Flowey, which is why the player is able to guide them one way or the other.
You can disagree or add your own, but this is a start for what I would give them:
-The colors red, green and gold, red heart shapes, smiley faces, as well as any yellow flowers
-Determination (duh)
-Survival in harsh/abusive situations (it's implied Chara had a very bad upbringing prior to their fall, and got through it by learning to laugh off the pain)
-Self-sacrifice (the whole buttercups thing)
-Doing what must be done (see previous)
-Family (they loved the Dreemurs enough to die for them, and they were the one who calmed Asriel)
-Gaining the upper hand on an abuser ("Since when were YOU the one in control?")
-Similarly, control/being controlled
-Gaining power ("Any time a number goes up, that feeling is me. Chara")
-Destruction and recreation (they do bring the world back if you beg)
-Deals with other entities (you giving them your soul in exchange)
-But relating to the above, inescapable consequences (Soulless pacifist)
-Also in those lines, cursing someone with exactly what they asked for
-Necromancy/ghosts/spirit work/death, because they are themself a ghost stuck to Frisk
-I would argue redemption, since what is the pacifist route if not teaching Chara a better way
-Anger and/or protecting others (them wanting to attack the humans who hurt Asriel)
Feel free to send another ask if you have further questions! I hope this can get you started!

figuring stuff out!
personal development has lead me to pop culture paganism and it's.... a lot!! It's fun and exciting and also scary. I am obviously still figuring stuff out, but I don't think this will intervene a lot with my craft. I think my craft is mostly going to be secular - I don't feel comfortable calling it my religion.
ANYWAY that being said: has anyone worked with Xerneas before? I feel really really drawn towards them, so I think I will start with a small offering tonight!
Tumblr media
ps: one of the things i want to improve on this chapter of my life is getting in touch with people... so hi!!

hey sex witch uh so if someone has a suspected yeast infection, does that warrant a doctor’s appointment or do you just like talk to a pharmacist? i’m trans and very cis-passing so if i go to cvs im gonna have to go through the whole Surprise! I Have A Pussy but also i get anxious about like. bothering my primary care doctor if it’s something minor? i’ve never had a yeast infection before so i dont 100% know the protocol or whatever
hi anon,
it's often recommended that you see a gynecologist the first time you think you have a yeast infection, to ensure that that's really what's going on and make sure you're seeking the proper route of treatment. if you're unsure if that would be an appropriate appointment to make with your primary care provider, you might want to call the office and check to make sure that this is something your PCP is able to see you for.
it's worth noting that, although common, yeast infections shouldn't necessarily be considered a minor issue. few yeast infections clear up on their own, and in addition to the discomfort they cause a yeast infection that goes untreated too long can lead to more severe health complications, including painful open sores on the genitalia.
if going to your doctor right away is a Big No for you, there ARE antifungal yeast infection treatments available over the counter in most drugstores, usually without any need to talk to a pharmacist. (although, if you do need help finding the right medication, there's no need to necessarily disclose that you're trans. people buy non-prescription medication for other people all the time!) but if the symptoms don't go away, or they come back very quickly, I'd definitely recommend visiting with a healthcare provider to pursue other treatment options and make sure you didn't misdiagnose yourself.

Wooing a dreamboat's grave in "Lisa Frankenstein"
Tumblr media
Warning! Spoilers! If you’re my type of person, then you likely relate to a scene in ‘Lisa Frankenstein” where Lisa (Kathryn Newton) steps awkwardly into a party and immediately recoils in disinterest at its prospects: Normies, popular people, jocks, bad jokes and even worse conversation. Awash in a sea of coddled conformity and vanilla personalities, Lisa wants to disappear. And she does – via a drink spiked with PCP and its vile consequences.
The scene is in stark contrast to an earlier one, which establishes Lisa as a romantic goth whose happy place is to sit beneath the handsome bust of an expired hottie’s grave and read poetry to it. Dead or not, Lisa is in deep with the dead. Her comfort zone isn’t with people. Hell, it’s not even amongst the living. All she needs is the fantasy of a cute guy – pulse be damned. For many teen girls, dead celebrities make for the perfect untainted crush: Kurt Cobain, Heath Ledger, Brittany Murphy, Tupac, River Phoenix, Elliott Smith Aaliyah, James Dean, Jeff Buckley, Anton Yelchin. For decades (hell, probably centuries), teen girls have been able to project their fantasies onto the pin-ups of the formerly living – the more tragic, the better. Dead celebrities can’t age, make gross missteps, or date someone you hate. As a result, they can never disappoint you or let you down. They simply remain beautiful and idealised – a butterfly pinned within a frame. “Lisa Frankenstein” takes this fantasy to the ideal next level. Lisa’s wooing of a corpse and her unbridled passion for him is so gigantic it’s almost a cosmic event. Sure, it’s the lightning bolt of a storm that wakes The Creature (Cole Sprouse). But to anybody who’s ever swooned so hard that their heart has felt big enough to swallow the whole universe, there’s an obvious truth: Lisa’s love was so electric that it woke the dead.
Stories rarely allow women to not only fantasise in this way but to take the opportunity to make their fantasy flesh. There are countless stories about lonely, misunderstood, and horny men who see their most potent sexual and romantic dream babes conjured into a living, breathing fuck machine: “Weird Science”, “Ex Machina”... “Splice” (though, good grief, how I wish that last one didn’t go there). While other movies like “Poor Things” and “Frankenhooker” approach this tale from a perspective that pokes holes in such tropes and empowers the object of affection, such a story nonetheless persists. Outside of an episode of “Sabrina the Teenage Witch” where Sabrina uses a dubious ‘Man Dough’ recipe from her chronically single aunts to create a date for the dance, I’m stumped as to recall any others. (Since I know you’re intrigued, Sabrina adds too much enthusiasm into the mix, and a supremely cute but overly perky Brian Austin Green pops out of the oven like a young Nick Cage on “Wogan”. He’s no Harvey Kinkle, that’s for sure). In “Lisa Frankenstein”, our titular heroine very actively indulges her romantic and sexual feelings toward The Creature. Tongueless and speechless throughout the film, Sprouse’s character exists solely for Lisa’s gratification. As she helps rebuild and restore him to the living, she also restores herself. Previously, Lisa, too, had developed reactive mutism following the murder of her mother. But with The Creature, she confidently begins to get her voice back – even if she does use it to enthusiastically encourage the occasional cold-blooded murder (hey, nobody’s perfect).
By the end, it’s just like my boy Nietsche says: She who fucks a monster might take care lest she become a monster. Except Lisa’s pretty okay with having the abyss gaze back into her. That abyss is her happy place, and that monster is her boo. This is the place where poetry becomes born into flesh and blood, creating the cutest boy she could have ever hoped to have sewn a severed penis onto. A place where love – even the mere fantasy of it – is all a person needs to sustain them. Pulse be damned.

Plurality & Paganism: An Introspective
If any of you keep up with my main (@sinfulauthor), you may have noticed this post, along with my new pinned post. In short, I've come to the realization (after burying the thought of it for many years) that we are a Collective.
Now, how does this impact this blog and my craft?
To start off, this blog's content will remain the same. It will still primarily act as an e-grimoire with some additional posts, but the people posting what content will change. Specifically, these people:
-Alex (they/them), the host (hi!). I'll generally do most of the talking/posting. Works with The Signless/Sufferer and Dionysus. ANP that the IRL coven knows. (I'm not open with them about being a Collective just yet.)
-Vaati (he/him), who works with Demise and focuses on divination. Writes solely in cursive and gets VERY frustrated when grimoire notes are in standard print.
-Ghira (he/him), who works with Demise closer than Vaati for Obvious Reasons™️. (Though he generally doesn't do any actual spellwork, just offerings, worship, and altar setup.)
-Karkat (he/they) on occasion, solely because Signless HAS shown himself to him and is very much a Dad™️.
-Toko (she/her) has not yet "awakened." She was a former kin heavily associated with our craft. Taking bets on her being a spellcrafter/writer.
So, now that the roll call is done, onto some other stuff regarding plurality and paganism, the introspection the title mentions. (This will be below the cut as it's not as integral to the "functioning" of this blog.)
So, coming to the realization as a system was... interesting. We first became aware of dissociative disorders through Danganronpa (Yes, Toko's horrible representation. We know.) and related to Toko heavily. At the time, we were heavily involved in the Fictionkin community and had "memories" of those "timelines." However, this relatability on the DID aspect was soon hidden under the guise of "I like to write, and so does she! Also super traumatized like me lmao," and then we didn't think about it for five more years.
Come 2023, we've relapsed for the first time in four years and are going through some pretty traumatic stuff again. At an Esbat in September, an argument breaks out that causes us to dissociate and brings up those really painful feelings from childhood. Nothing felt real, and the rest of the night was foggy. (The people in the argument have since apologized. It was also an extremely stressful night due to our old High Priest being ousted for sexual misconduct not even 4 hours before we started.)
At this point, this whole debacle causes us to realize, "Hey, this isn't really a normal trauma response. There might be something else going on." We have a lot of friends who are systems, and we went to them asking, "Hey, do you like. think we're a system?" and FIVE OF THEM SNIFFED US OUT YEARS AGO AND DIDN'T BOTHER TO TELL US??? Like maybe that would have been useful information, idk (We still love our friends to bits, though)
So, fast forward to 2024. Still in the process of diagnosis but receiving trauma-focused therapy to process things. It's been a long process of figuring out how to live/function as someone with a dissociative disorder, but we're learning.
Thankfully, having a good support network has been a great help. We have an almanac (specifically The Practical Witch's 2024 Almanac by Friday Gladheart) to track our craft/spiritual work, and it's interesting to see the input of everyone in the collective. It's a lot of taking things day by day and seeing how things go, but we feel the energy around us changing.
Anyway, ramble over. If y'all read this to the end, thanks for sticking around. I've got some other posts we plan on making, so keep an eye out for those, too.
Signing off,
Alex of the Magic Collective

Before you begin.
First and foremost, before you even set about making a contract, there are a few fundamental skills you must develop. While the specifics vary from person to person in your methods of gnosis, some abilities are very necessary to facilitate being a magical girl. I will go into witches, soul gems and finding labyrinths in more detail at a later date.
Witchsight
Visualization + Meditation
Visualization and meditation are the most accessible of these skills when it comes to hunting witches. As unlike in the canon universe, witches here exist in the astral plane. Their labyrinths exist in these astral pockets of sorts, they hide and can’t be seen with the naked eye by all but the most gifted or schizophrenic of magical girls. So, in order to actually combat witches, before even making a wish, one *must* develop a strong skill in meditation and visualization in order to enter and fight within labyrinths. This is a fundamental skill for most practitioners and the one I use, but if you can find a way around it I’d love to hear your experiences.
Astral Travel
Astral travel is another very viable option. I can’t speak much on it, as the traditional outlined ideas of using lucid dreaming and sleep states to induce this method of traversing the astral are something I’ve never been able to do. I include it here as it is a very lucrative option if it’s already in your toolkit.
Energy Sensing and Control
The ability to sense and control energy is fundamental to actually performing your duties as a magical girl. Finding labyrinths and using your magical powers are both linked to this skill.
Energy balls are a good start for creating constructs of energy as well as identifying energy with your physical body. Charging them with different emotions can be a good way to pick out the differences between different kinds of energy and with experience will be invaluable in finding witches. Once you’ve not only mastered the creation of simple orbs, but the creation of more complex structures and maintaining them with your own energy is when you know you won’t have any trouble doing that in the heat of battle, be it having to conjure a weapon or a unique ability. Once you become a Puella Magi officially this process becomes much less tiring due to the magical reserves granted by your soul gem, but training in how to do it beforehand will prevent dangerous situations like jumping into your first labyrinth and realizing you have no idea how to use your newfound powers.
Connected to this is Grounding, Shielding and all that jazz. Grounding can be a way to calm yourself before battle and is key in accessing your henshin. Shielding in a way specific to your magical presentation is the basis for defensive magics, like Kyoko’s barriers or Mami’s ribbons. Shielding can also be used offensively to ensnare a witch or opposing magical girl. When I’ve covered the ground work and important preparation of what it means to be a magical girl, I will go into more detail about how to perform these. But, a lot of these practices are readily available online and will provide a better understanding than I can provide here.
 Auric Reading
Aura reading is a side skill to basic energy identification. Once you have enough practice picking up on the energies of witches, you’ll be able to see those who have been infected by a witches kiss by the quality of their aura. Negative emotions and mental illnesses are one thing, but once you experience the energy of a witch the difference in a person’s aura will become very prominent.
Housekeeping
Emotional Regulation and Therapy.
While it is incredibly unlikely you would ever be able to talk about this practice in a therapist’s office without being sectioned, maintaining a good emotional state and having coping mechanisms in place is crucial for making it as a magical girl for as long as possible. Self care is important, and maintaining your soul gem isn’t just done by killing witches. Developing ways to manage unpleasant and/or uncontrollable emotions and more specifically depression and despair is a good way to avoid becoming a witch and can be used to cleanse your soul gem of emotional taint. But, no amount of heavy breathing can replenish magic use, so it doesn’t completely remove the realities of a magical girl’s duties. The visualization practices outlined above can be used in conjunction with coping skills you already have to cleanse your soul gem as well.
I’m not going to suggest just drinking tea and sitting under a nice blanket as a coping skill, as I find those to be rather dismissive and trite when I’ve had them suggested to me in the past. But that sort of thing is worth a try, worst comes to worst it just won’t work. And if it does work for you, more power to you. Really it is important to just do what works for you, as this is a heavy burden we are taking up here and it’s important to look after yourself.

I wrote a mini essay on the balor and I want to get it out of the discord server. some of this might be outdated.
Balor Report The following assumes one is doing a nanowhip build Balor.
Mobility: Pankrati 2, skirmisher 2, and Agility 2 are more than sufficient for mobility purposes, Sunzi is actually unnecessary and Balor can very comfortable achieve its foundational mobility by LL3 at the cost of executioner 3 and Hull 4 which both have to wait till LL4.
Heat Resistance: Lesson of Disbelief! 2 investment in systems or engineering depending on if one is branching out into tech attacking or focusing on raw damage would be wise, but is not a priority.
Presence: Even without swarm body, skirmisher executioner with the whip allows for insane combat oppression.
Takeaway: sunzi can outright be dropped in favor of IPSN investment for the HP, size, or threat core bonus at LL6, the quest is just what you want from IPSN for specifics. Avoiding heat gen is still important. Hull 4 is sufficient HP investment for the most part, so I'd actually suggest investing in Engineering or systems at LL5-6.
Addendum: Balor 3 Black Witch 3 is very good, as most of the IPSN license are wholly unneeded by Balor build. to put it in Morrowind terms, from the perspective of "solving problems", ISPN does not, but also threat 4 whip and hull save acc. further enhances the insanity of the balor so its hard to pass up. Black Witch on the other hand provides the ferrous lash, the PCP, and the black ice module. These immensely help patch of existing weak points of the Balor by providing it further tech resistance, allied support, and control effects. Magnetic shield is good but may not fit due to SP cost, and I'd say that the balor benefits more from having swarm/hive nanites than mag cannon. Also +2 evasion core bonus further assists the Balor's survivability, allowing you to perform some insane feats of frontlining.
Balor Synergy Options
Sunzi: Accelerate and Blink charges are excellent. HA Core Bonus Synergy: Low. IAF or SBD are good options, the former for blink charges, the latter for shoring up Balor's weaknesses. Low rating is due blink charges being an unsustainable luxury that runs counter to the Balor's speciality, and the Balor's poor reactor can be better mitigated by giving it protection from tech, such as from the next entry-
Black Witch: Ferrous Lash, Black Ice, and PCP. Black Ice especially combines with Lesson of Disbelief to turn a normally witch-fearing frame into a witch-hunter. SSC Core Bonus Synergy: Moderate. Evasion allows for more front-lining, others not really useful.
Lancaster: Cable Winch, Restock, Whitewash. CW traps them into melee with you, restock drone is some nice team support, and whitewash can slow enemies for pankrati as well as supporting allies and saving civilians. IPSN Core Bonus Synergy: !ridiculously high! Formorian Frame increases combat presence, since threat 3 extends from all tiles, and taking house guard will allow you to acquire guardian to be an incredibly defender presence. Gyges frame is obviously threat 4 whip but also shoutout to +1 acc Hull for further enhancing survivability. lots of nasty things are hull saves. and Reinforced Frame of course further enhances your natural regen.
