Phil and the Beanstalk au

Outside of myths, Phil has never heard of giants or the giant realm before. He especially didn't climb the beanstalk intending to kill any. He just begins exploring the garden in wonder, gawking at flowers the size of a house and drooling over strawberries as big as he is...

And just maybe trying to steal a bite or two of one.

He first spots Techno while in the branches of the strawberry bush. He freezes and stays hidden, realizing this little trip just got a whole lot more dangerous.

The giant crouches in the garden. Phil wonders if he's just weeding... and then with a vicious yank, Techno tears the beanstalk out from the ground.

Phil's only way home is gone.

Jack and the Beanstalk AU Idea:

Wow Luna so original, yeah well.. I've kind of always liked reading these AUs so I figured why not give it a try here I go (this is my first "official post" dont be too harsh please lol)

So I'm a big sucker for giant!SBI and figured that instead of T!Tommy I'll have maybe all the SBI be giants and have Tubbo as the "Jack" character I guess?

A festival goes on that's ran by a mysterious man, and like Schlatt is there and he sells Tubbo the magic beans to the beanstalk

Ranboo is also there but he's Tubbos husband (obviously) and he's just there to fill the place of Jack's mom.. but yeah-

The plant grows Tubbo climbs it, he notices the castle in the sky and the plant has grown in the front yard of the castle, he hops off the plant and is honestly astonished by how big the castle is once he gets closer too it.

Tommy is the first one to find him, and he's a bit confused but a little curious as humans in the giant realm are believed to be just Fairytales just how mythical creatures are "fairytales" or "make believe" in our world

Tubbo is just.. speechless, I mean he kind of figured that someone lived /once lived there but didn't consider it to be a literal giant

Tommy picks Tubbo up against his will and takes him inside.. and Tubbo discovers there's more giants (Philza, Techno, and Wilbur) once Phil calls him for dinner

Tommy shows Tubbo off to his father and older siblings to their confusion, as they think he's just a doll or something until they notice he's blinking and breathing and stuff

Tommy asks if Tubbo with him, much to Tubbo's dismay Phil hesitantly says yes.

Another AU idea: (I’ve been working on this one for a while)

Dream escapes prison while everyone is asleep thanks to Ranboo in his other state and George. Dream begins his plan of revenge by casting a spell in the form of a powerful potion with the help of XD (both Schlatt and Wilbur have been revived by this point) which causes each member to wake up in their own perfect fairytale they can’t escape from. At least, it looks perfect on the surface. In reality, each is a nightmare prison that they’re trapped in due to all the things and emotions they haven’t faced and are too scared to face. They’re all ignorant of what their lives were like before the dream, it’s all a fuzzy blur.

I haven’t figured them all out yet, but Schlatt is trapped in that old fairytale where everything he touches turns to gold (he ends up getting imprisoned by his friends and called a monster).

Wilbur is trapped in a Little Mermaid Daydream where he gets to live his perfect life with Sally forever, his family and friends all happy (but he ends up ruining it by going crazy and killing one of them by the end of the day, and the day resets).

Tommy is trapped in a Jack and the Beanstalk situation with Phil as his father sending him to sell the cow he named Tubbo (“No one keeps a cow for a friend!”) only to be tricked by Dream giving him magic beans, leading him to extort the kindness of Sam the Giant.

Tubbo is in a Cinderella type situation where he keeps being a doormat and being kind to his ‘family’ - Schlatt, Wilbur and Techno - who won’t stop manipulating and being mean to him. He says he wants to get out of the house one time to go to this party, and ofc his ‘family’ have to make it harder by giving him so many tasks to complete. The reason Tubbo is compelled to stay in this nightmare is because he’s scared of being rejected and alone. Eventually with Eret as his fairy godmother, he gets to actually go to the party where he becomes fast friends with Tommy, but he never reveals his name and the day keeps repeating because Tubbo doesn’t want to get attached to someone who might hurt him like his ‘family’ does.

Phil is in a sleeping beauty sequence type situation where he has to face down a powerful sorcerer who is keeping his son captive, only to realize that it was all a trick by his son to dispose of him, leading him to run for his life as his own son chases him down wanting to kill him.

Techno is stuck in a loop of saving people he’s close to from death and feeling like a hero, only for them to end up killing Phil in return. This leads him to a murder mystery situation where he has to figure out who’s the traitor, when in reality they’re all traitors, and every time he fails the day and his memory resets.

Ranboo doesn’t get a dream because “you’re already living your worst nightmare.” And Dream doesn’t think it could get better than having to sleep and try to forget in his own body for Ranboo.

Purpled and George who are neutral and kind of loyal to him in Dream’s eyes get to stay in his new server where it’s only them while everyone else stays in stasis chambers in their own eternal punishments for messing with Dream.

Holy fuck. We can add so much angst and creative things in this au. I can add so many fairy tales in here and I love it.

I love all of this. I love them all.

I especially love that we have everyone be in a sleep of sorts and in a fairy tale. I like Tommy, Tubbo, and Schlatt’s the best.

Ranboo’s is super sad. Oh my god. He’s already in his worst nightmare so he doesn’t get a dream.

Also, I would like to think Purpled was okay with this at first until he saw that Punz is one of the people who apparently wronged him. So now he’s going to get George to snap out of it, tell him that Dream is a dick and that he’s keeping Sapnap hostage. And drag him out of the apathetic mindset he has in the story.

fuck i just saw a tiktok using an Into the Woods audio and now I’m back at it again so here we go bois

by the way: spoilers for the into the woods stage version if that is necessary

disclaimer: none of the following castings for this au have any intention of shipping, don’t be weird

our cast of characters:

baker: Philza. Dad character. He just wants a kid but has to go on a quest to achieve a child. Ends up with four children

baker’s wife: Mumza. Phil’s wife! We’re just going to pretend Act 2, song cue 56 and 57 (in accordance to the MTI script of Into the Woods) don’t happen. She just gets stepped on, nope nothing else happens. Appears after she dies at the end of the show? like a certain goddess of death oop.  

cinderella: Wilbur! Wilbur and Cinderella give off similar vibes. He’s got that independent idea, and I could also see him talking to birds. Takes over as leader when Phil dips. 

jack: Tommy. Tommy would climb up a beanstalk and steal a bunch of shit from a giant. He would also just be an annoying little shit that everyone would be after in the second act but also lines up with Baker and Cinderella protecting him. Plus, he has a cow. Also the scene between Jack and Red near the end of act one would be hilarious. 

red riding hood: Tubbo. They’re both little shits. Also Tubbo would get eaten by a wolf by accident. Tubbo would also be down for murder after getting eaten by a wolf.

the witch: Technoblade. After his own ideals, but also fed up with everyone else in the world. Flare for the dramatic and would yell at everyone before disappearing to make a point. idk it just lines up with what i think would happen, especially act 2. 

narrator: okay, this one is rough because who is the omniscient presence who could tell the story but then the characters murder him to make their own stories (i love how into the woods just kills god at one point lol). maybe Dream, but like in the DreamXD sence? yeah let’s stick with that. 

baker’s father: idk mcyum maybe? lol that was the first thing that came to mind and now i’m sticking with it because it would be funny.

jack’s mother: Jack Manifold. He would lecture Tommy about selling a cow and also their relationship is very similar.

i’m not casting cinderella’s whole family, if anyone’s got any ideas of who they should be just lmk.

wolf: schlatt, (think manburg arc and his relationship with Tubbo, now think of how it fits in into the woods

rapunzel: I’m just gonna plonk ranboo here. why not? I’m kind of running out of ideas.

cinderella’s birds: chat. they’re little snitches and so are we.

alright, the rest of the characters i’m kind of gave up on, there’s a lot of them and i’m stuck on dynamics lol. 

by the way, i had to pull out my old into the woods script to look up all the characters, and there are a lot more than i remembered.

The human climbed up the bean stalk and is now currently wandering around the giant cloud kingdom. Tommy is curious as he sees a giant house and goes up into it.

Wilbur crashed from the cloud kingdom in Tommy's backyard and he immediately was awoken by the sound. They are bewildered as they find the half dragon half human and they immediately sneak them inside.

He trys to nurse them back to health as they're unconscious.

Techno & Phil

Oh boy....Techno and Phil have been gone for years. The two went to go on a bit of a revenge mission and instead they kinda started an empire instead...but they both knew they needed tp get back to Wilbur.

So they decide to continue there murder and revenge plot as they search for someone to kill-

And they finally succeed but...

Now they need to get back to Wilbur and hope the other dragon is still ok...

After quite a few days pass with no new beanstalks showing up and no sign of any other humans, Technoblade starts to relax a little. It seems clear that Phil was the only one sent up here, so there's no active danger.

He isn't sure why another beanstalk hasn't appeared. Maybe that was their only spell- but if so why just send one person?- or if they saw the destruction of the beanstalk and decided it was too risky. Maybe they were regrouping and waiting until he dropped his guard to make another attempt.

Or maybe, just maybe, Phil has been telling the truth all along.

Red: Lil Gremlin Au

Oh Phil :) poor, poor Phil.

During this time, Phil has been bedridden at home. Tommy probably doesn't realize just how sick he is. All he really knows is that Phil can't help him. Phil's been in and out of consciousness for several days, not really knowing what's going on.

Eventually, Phil wakes up enough to notice the food that Tommy left out for him- and the fact that he's not there. He's still a bit delirious. He walks through the walls calling for Tommy for hours, not even noticing that he's wandered out into the open.

All he knows is that he has to find his son.

Red: Lil Gremlin Au

Despite how similar they look, and the fact that they both have wings... Phil and Tommy are not actually related. They think of each other like family, but Tommy isn't Phil's son.

Phil does have a son... or rather he did. When his son was just 8 years old, he was caught and sold by the humans and hybrids. The loss still hurts, even to this day, but Phil has moved on. Tommy isn't a replacement for Wilbur; nobody could replace his sweet child. But Tommy is just as much his son as Wil was.

Green: Phil and the Beanstalk Au

As soon as Techno pulls up the spell, he starts scouring the garden for any invaders. It's unlikely they sent a full team of trained magicians up without scoping out the area first. Anyone up here is likely a scout.

Unless they attack him first, Techno won't kill them... Yet. He needs at least one alive to interrogate after all.

Blue: Celestials Au

While going into the celestial realm can be deadly for humans, the reverse is completely fine. In fact, for fun some celestials slip their essence through the rifts and visit the human world while their bodies sleep back at home. Of course, they end up taking a human form so as not to scare any mortals.

One of these celestials is Technoblade. He visits the human realm quite often, fascinated by the animals in particular. He's sitting on a beach cliffside, confused as to why he can sense a rift in the area when a human approaches on the shore down below.

Techno is too far to stop him, so all he can do is watch as the poor kid falls through the rift. Even if Techno woke himself up now, he had no idea where the rift led to. He'd just have to hope the kid was found by a friendly celestial.

And Techno would do his best to keep any other humans from falling through.

Green: Phil and the Beanstalk Au-

Exactly what it sounds like... well, almost exactly. Phil gets his hands on magical beans, plants them, and climbs up the beanstalk. He finds himself in a garden that's far too big. Meanwhile, Techno is just tending to his plants when he sees a chilling sight- a beanstalk where it shouldn't be. A clear sign that a particular spell, one used by giant-slayers to access the giant's realm has been used.

He and his brothers are in danger.

Purple: Adrift Au-

Everyone knows that a sacrifice is the only way to gain the attention and favour of the massive gods that roam the world. Unfortunately for Ranboo, he has been chosen for the 'grand honor' of being this decade's human sacrifice for his village. A rune to call upon the gods is carved into his arm, and he's tied up and left for dead.

When the rune activates, it draws the attention of a particularly notorious god- Wilbur, the Mad Poet. Wilbur brings the little mortal back to his home with Phil and Techno. Ranboo wants nothing to do with the gods, but he might not have a choice... the rune did a little more than just summon Wilbur...

Red: Lil Gremlin Au-

Borrowers Tommy and Phil have ended up in a tight situation. While attempting to travel for an emergency, they ended up in the bag of Technoblade, a piglin hybrid whose house is a very poor place for borrowers. While there aren't any active dangers like the last house, it's nigh impossible to borrow. Techno keeps the place spotless. What's worse, he never leaves so they can't even move to another house!

When Phil falls terribly ill, Tommy has to get food for both of them, a tall task with such a tidy hybrid. But he has a plan! Unfortunately for him, Techno is a bit too observant for it to work, and Tommy ends up captured...

Blue: Celestials Au-

There exists, in the plane of existence just beyond this one, a realm of incomprehensible creatures who call themselves Celestials. Glimpses into this world have been called many things: Lovecraftian horrors, heavenly angels, really bad trips. Mortals were not meant to see this world... but it doesn't stop some from falling into rifts.

After running off following an argument with his two roommates, Tommy is one of these unfortunate mortals. He'll wake up in a world not meant for him, with massive creatures straight out of nightmares. That is... if he survives long enough for his brain to keep from melting. Hopefully a friendly Celestial will offer his mind some protection.

Purple: Adrift Au

Although the gods are able to speak Ranboo's language, that doesn't make them good communicators. Ranboo is under the impression that he literally belongs to the three gods as a servant or pet. Meanwhile, Wilbur feels responsible for his well-being and wants to make sure he's ok.

They know Ranboo is scared, but they don't really understand why or what to do to fix it. And Ranboo is far too nervous to speak up about his concerns- especially since he assumes they wouldn't care.

If the gods want to help Ranboo, they'll need some outside help.

Green: Phil and the Beanstalk Au

Something interesting about the giant world is that time moves much, much slower there than in the human world. It was an unintended side effect of the spell to evacuate them.

This means that the generations of humans actually involved in the wars have died out while the giants have not. Phil has never heard about the war save from in legends, while Techno was directly involved.

Blue: Celestials Au

When Tommy wakes up, he doesn't know where he is. His head is already aching, but as soon as he looks around it explodes into a migraine.

Though he's rarely able to attend school, Tommy's a bit of a math geek. If he has free time, he sometimes watches videos about things that would never be taught in school. Such as four dimensional mathematics.

That's the only reason he's able to even understand what he's seeing right now. The world around him has another layer of depth to it, one that is breaking his brain the more he looks.

The world is four dimensional, and he's experiencing the world through senses that he can't even begin to comprehend.

Unnoticed to him, his eyes and ears start leaking blood.

Green: Phil and the Beanstalk Au

The history between giants and humans is a long and bloody one. Nobody knows who started the conflict, but the wars were ravaging the land, killing innocent giants and humans alike. Eventually, the greatest magic users of giant kind- very rare beings, since magic is harder for giants- decided to create a world of their own, a mirror world for the giants to live in.

The separation of the two races stopped the endless bloodshed- for the most part. There were a few magic users on the human side of the war that weren't content to end things there. They made a spell to worm its way into the safe haven and sent teams to slaughter any giant they encountered. This didn't stop until a magic user from the giants used a spell to turn themself into a human. They infiltrated the humans and wiped out every magic user they could find.

The invasions stopped, but all of giantkind remembered the horrors those beanstalks brought.

Purple: Adrift Au

Wilbur, Techno, and Phil are a family; as much of a family as gods can be. They're recognized in the minds of mortals as a trio, a set of gods that often work together. However, there is a fourth family member that most mortals don't know about- at least they don't know how close he is to the other three gods.

Tommy, the god of humanity is perhaps the most popular god. Even if not everyone worships him, everyone knows about him and most people like him. However, the mortals and even most gods are unaware that he and the trio of deadly gods are a family.

This is because his domain gives him a special power. The power to live among the humans as one of them. Despite being arguably the most popular god, Tommy is rarely seen. He prefers to live side by side with the humans, seeing his people up close.

Eventually, Techno is going to realize that Phil wasn't lying when he said he didn't know what was going on. He'll feel bad, and apologize of course, but he doesn't regret what he did. He did it to protect his family.

Phil doesn't particularly want to stay with the giants once he's released. But, well. He can't go back home. Nobody says it, but it's unlikely he'll ever be able to get home again. Luckily Phil didn't have anyone he left behind, but it's still difficult to be permanently trapped in a world you don't belong.

He gets along pretty well with Tommy, but he's still wary around the other two, Techno especially. Unfortunately he has nowhere else to go. It's a little awkward, but they set up a space for him. To his relief, it's in a different room than his cage was.

That's the thing :) Phil doesn't have a magic specialty. He's not a magic user, just a random, unlucky guy that ended up with a magic relic of the war. He theoretically could learn magic in the future- unlike giants, most humans have at least a little bit of capacity for magic- but he doesn't know any now, and it would take years to develop a specialty.

Tommy and Wilbur have never seen a human before. Tommy was too young to be involved in the war, and someone had to watch him while Techno went off to battle. They're wary; they know what humans are capable of. But Techno has also told them that this one isn't a magic user. He's not dangerous, not alone.

Wilbur is curious. He's fascinated by humans, and now he can see one up close. He's got so many questions. At first Techno asked him to hold off on his curiosity until he got the information he needed out of Phil. Then, when Phil's answer didn't change, he decided to let Wilbur ask whatever he wanted. Maybe throwing in subtle probing questions with the genuine ones would make him trip up.

Tommy, on the other hand, is sympathetic. It's pretty obvious that Phil is scared and confused. He's moved out of the birdcage and into a more comfortable cage pretty soon, but he's still trapped. Tommy feels a bit sorry for him. He's curious too, but instead of asking questions, he just chats with Phil, hoping to help him calm down some.

Green: Phil and the Beanstalk

Techno will eventually catch Phil. It will take a while- I haven't decided how long yet. When he catches Phil, he's not as harsh as he might have been if the human weren't scared and obviously not a magic user.

Of course he assumes Phil is a scout and doesn't hesitate to interrogate him. The human has no idea what he's talking about and says as much. But Techno doesn't believe him. He takes Phil back home and sticks him in an old birdcage he had lying around. It's a temporary measure until he finds a better prison- but he doesn't tell Phil that.

Blue: Celestials Au

I kind of want to talk about some designs for the Celestials! I'll go in order of my most solid design idea to least ^^

Dream- the majority of his body is very fabric like. It has layers weaving in and out of reality and he uses tendrils of the cloth as hands. His face is just kind of an empty white sphere that hovers above his body. You can't really tell where he's looking. Not all Celestials are so blatantly inhuman, but Dream is unmistakably other.

Niki- on one layer of perception, she looks fairly close to an ordinary woman, just with scales sprinkled about her person. Her eyes glow just slightly with an unearthly light. But a layer beyond... Her entire body is made up of a cool white fire. It doesn't burn, but it is tangible.

Wilbur, Techno, Phil- all very important characters... But I don't have a good idea of their designs just yet. Wilbur will probably lean into the phantom design, maybe skeletal? Techno will probably be a piglin but I might make him twins with Wilbur and also be bones. For Phil the only thing I know for certain is that he'll have wings that reach all the way to his hands.

Purple: Adrift Au

The gods know Ranboo is freaked out, so they make him a little room he can hide in. He does whenever he thinks he's allowed to... Which isn't very often. Since he's under the impression that he's some kind of servant to them, he's terrified of upsetting them.

Ranboo went to school, once upon a time. He knows that any place with an Authority has Rules. And breaking rules means consequences, usually painful ones. The punishment for disobedience in the school had been harsh and swift. He doesn't even want to imagine what not following the gods' rules would be.

He just... has to figure out what those rules are first.

what is Phil and the beanstalk?

Phil and the beanstalk is one of my aus! It's pretty much what it sounds like: a retelling of Jack and the Beanstalk with Phil in the place of Jack.

It's not a one to one story, though, I took quite a few creative liberties. It's mostly just the concept of a human ending up in a giant world after climbing up a beanstalk that I used.

Ooooh good question!

Kristin isn't specifically included in any of them- yet! I'm not quite sure where she would fit in all of them but I can do a little brainstorming! ^^

Lil Gremlin- honestly, I can't think of anything off the top of my head. Most likely she would be another borrower, probably someone Phil meets post!canon. I already have the vast majority of lil gremlin planned out so she probably wouldn't be a very important character sadly :(

Adrift- now in this au, I did consider making her the goddess of death, one step above Phil. And then I had to go and write that little thing about Phil's domain so that doesn't quite fit anymore. Perhaps she would still be the goddess of death, just over slightly different aspects than Phil! Nobody says domains can't be covered by more than one god, and death seems like a large domain to handle. She and Phil could have a meet-cute over a dying soul! ☺️

Celestials au- this one she could be either another Celestial or a human... And I think I like the idea of human Kristin. 👀 This is another au that's planned pretty far ahead, although not in nearly as much detail as lil gremlin. Perhaps Phil has visited the human realm a few times and fell in love! Perhaps that won't happen until after canon!

Phil and the Beanstalk- now, since this one is a Phil focused au and it's not planned very far... I have the most liberty for adding Mumza :D she can't be a human in this au- I haven't mentioned it yet but Phil is pretty much permanently trapped in the giant realm.... oops? So she's definitely a giant! Which means we return to the natural state of giant!Kristin and tiny!Phil! I don't think she's a magic user either- magic is extremely rare for giants- but maybe she was still involved in the war? Most adult giants were in some way or another.

Considering the devastation the human magic users caused, some might call Techno crazy for immediately seeking out the suspected invaders. However, he has an advantage that most giants wouldn't.

Techno is a magic user himself.

Despite his appearance and combat skills, the magic he possesses is not offensive magic. Instead, Techno specializes in defense. He's especially strong against magical attacks, which made him one of the greatest assets during the wars.

Because of this, Techno felt confident that even if a squad of magic users was lurking somewhere in his garden they wouldn't be able to take him down. It would take far more magic users than could hide in a garden to take him down. Or a physical attack, but humans weren't great at those.

He isn't worried. After all, Technoblade never dies.
