I 100% agree with this Facebook commentator, but probably not in the way he means, ;)

On the eve of the Strange New Worlds premier (which I am SO excited about) I realize I'm also a little sad, because it means saying goodbye to a bunch of fanon that will now get jossed. This show BETTER not mess up the Pike/Boyce fics I adore (or the WIPs about them I’m planning to finish someday I swear). All the infinite possibilities that exist for Chris and the others are about to collapse like a wave function, so I'm just acknowledging how sad that is. Okay, that's it, see you on the flip side.

re: this post and Kirk and Pike and their drinking habits
Kirk doesn’t seem to drink alone. At least we never see him drink alone as a captain. Aboard the ship, it’s always McCoy who brings him or pours him a drink in order to make Kirk relax. He often brings the alcohol as a comfort, as a way to make him talk. It’s almost a ritual that is always initiated by McCoy for Kirk’s own sake. McCoy does it as a friend, but he also does it from his position as Kirk’s doctor.
“Sometimes a man’ll tell his bartender things he’ll never tell his doctor.”
Pike doesn’t have anyone like that. Pike presents himself as everyone’s friend, and he makes sure it’s him who’s there for everyone, and that reflects even on the times when he’s in his own quarters talking to Una or Spock and it’s him who’s being “comforted”. At those times, it’s still Pike who plays a host and offers them a drink. For his own sake because they won’t do it for him. He pretends they’re his bartenders since that role doesn’t belong to anyone, and he needs to pour himself that drink.
Una is almost like Pike’s McCoy but not really. At times, Spock is almost like Pike’s McCoy but not really. He’s like twenty years younger than Pike and inexperienced, among other things. Neither of them have the option to question him and press him in the way that McCoy can with Kirk because neither of them can relieve him of his command. And M’Benga doesn’t seem to want that role.
Mister Spock, the man on top walks a lonely street. The chain of command is often a noose. is as real for Pike as it’s real for Kirk. Pike just has a more open personality and a way to captain the ship that make him seem less lonely on the outside.

Confession #163
"It's probably a conspiracy theory level confession, but I really do think part of the reason Boyce wasn't included in SNW was to cut off any Pike/Boyce shipping (and all that comes from it) at the pass but in doing so they have isolated Pike from the crew by removing his confidant. M'Benga and Una are great characters and play their own roles well, but neither of them fill the character role of Captain's sounding board, and imo SNW suffers from the lack of someone who can keep Pike honest with himself about various issues."

i rewatched bruce greenwood as pike this week and shortly thereafter lost in imachar’s ao3 works and am so glad i am not the only one losing my entire mind over it. let. bruce. greenwood. kiss. boys.!!
they're just so fucking good, right anon? and no, you are most definitely not the only one losing your mind over them... like i've been reading them at work when i'm stressed or annoyed or both and they have a nice calming effect on me
my favorites are all of them in the main series and ficlet series but my most favorites are "The Secondary Waltz", "Beyond All Worth", and "Cast Away Your Chains" based on the sheer number of times i've reread them already. like 3-4 times each. mind you i've just come across them like a month ago? maybe month and a half? and they're not short fics either, we're talking 10K+ words each or close
i also appreciate her writing two endings--the bad ending and the good ending, the canon ending and the canon-divergent ending--because sometimes we need to experience pain lol like when i read "If This Is Goodbye" when i tell you that i fucking sobbed like a baby...whew... NEVER cried over a fic before that.
and goddammit yes let bruce kiss boys! why hasn't this happened yet?! i like old men and i like them kissing each other! i would lose my everloving shit and pass out if i ever witnessed that
but that's what fic is for i guess, now it's time for fic recs
kirk/pike - shining on the quay by @topaz119 (it's a story as well as a series) and the language of the wicked by the lovely @lizzy0305 (i read this like once a week, it's so good and filthy)
kirk/spock/pike - the "My Pleasure, Kid" series once again by @lizzy0305 very good stuff, not usually into threesomes but i can be persuaded and lizzy persuaded me very successfully lolol

Group-shot of the full crew of The Progress, Captain Pike's new Starship!
We have some familiar faces. Hemmer, who is alive in my AU as Chief Engineer, Una as the first officer, Ash Tyler as Tactical Officer, Dr. M'Benga as the CMO, and even Dr. Boyce, all the way from TOS, as Pike's caretaker.
Then we have my OCs, Stanna Dashi, the comms officer and Pike's interpreter, as well as T'Pella and Reese from the Medical staff.
And finally, the woman next to M'Benga is Elizabeth T'Les Tucker, who once worked as Science Officer in the Progress. She's from my friend @sharonz-arty-corner03's AU from Star Trek Enterprise, where Trip and T'Pol's hybrid baby Elizabeth survives. She's here as a cameo, because her AU and stories span beyond much more than this and you should definitely check it out.
If you wanna know more about Pike's captaincy of a new ship, taking place after his radiation accident, you can see my stuff here: | Masterpost | Ao3 Link

I did a thing, I actually posted a story for the first time in two years. It's a very tentative dipping back into writing, and it can be read as either a ST:AOS Pike/Boyce story or a more generic ST:SNW Pike, Boyce and Number One friendship story.

Funny, I don't recall Pike complaining about this crew member being on the bridge.
That's actress and stuntwoman Carol Daniels, who was only listed in the production schedule as a stand-in. She would later appear, unrecognizably so, as Zora in the TOS Season Three episode The Savage Curtain (y'know, the one with Abe Lincoln floating in space).

Unpopular opinions: either Spock and McCoy have known each other for more than just a few months at the beginning of s1, or Spock is very very good (and quick) at making personal connections and friends
