Gematsu Source
Tumblr media
A demo for action RPG remake Star Ocean: The Second Story R is now available for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Switch, and PC Steam, publisher Square Enix and developer Gemdrops announced.
Get the latest details below.
(This post will be updated with screenshots later today.)
■ Story
Claude C. Kenny, a young officer in the Pangalactic Federation, is sent to investigate a mysterious dome discovered on Planet Milokeenia on the orders of Ronyx, his father and commanding officer. There he discovers an unfamiliar-looking mechanism. Hoping to demonstrate his courage, he ignores Ronyx’s objections and touches it, only to disappear in a blinding flash.
Later, Claude wakes up surrounded by lush forest and realizes he’s been transported somewhere far away.
Trying and failing to get in contact with Ronyx, Claude scouts out the area around him, only to discover a monster just as it’s about to attack a young girl.
Rushing into the fray, Claude fires away with the Phase Gun his father gave him.
Seeing Claude rescue her with this bright, lethal force, the girl—Rena Lanford—mistakes him for a figure from the myths of her homeland, a hero who bears a Sword of Light.
In order to properly thank him, Rena takes Claude to the village of Arlia, hoping against hope that he could be the one to save the entire nation…

■ Remake Features: Battles
Fun, Thrilling Team-Action Battles!
The real-time action combat allows you to unleash special arts skills with a simple push of a button. Battles have become even more strategic with new elements added to the combat system.
These features allow you to stun enemies by layering attacks or to prompt an ally character not currently in your party to perform a follow-up attack. The original effects and animations have been further refined, making combat even more exhilarating.
Thrilling and Visually Explosive Battles! – Enjoy fast-paced combats and strategically defeat foes with new mechanics such as “Break” and “Assault Action” dealing massive damage and featuring protagonists from across the Star Ocean series.
Super-Flashy and Exhilarating! – Renewed battle effects. Incredibly rich effects create battles bursting with energy.
Cooperate with Allies! – Stun your enemies to stop them in their tracks and deal major damage with follow-up attacks from your allies. Fight alongside your allies to eradicate the enemy in one fell swoop.
New “Break” System to Neutralize and Break Down Foes!
Each enemy character has a Shield Value. When it hits zero, they are temporarily stunned, letting you deal more damage. Use this opportunity to hit them as hard as you can! Additionally, each character’s special arts skills are divided by the type of damage they deal, from “HP-focused” to “Balanced” and “Break-focused,” adding a tactical factor as you decide the best skill to use for the situation.
—Target a specific foe to aim for a Break!
—Breaking the lead enemy causes a Break Effect! The Break state is chained to nearby enemies on the field, putting you at an advantage.
Combo Link: Easy Controls Let You Overwhelm Foes in Style
Each character’s special arts skills can easily be launched with the L1 and R1 buttons. You can also tap L1 or R1 twice to use the Combo Link, which lets you quickly launch a preset special art combo. Simple controls enable flashy, powerful sequel attacks, lending extra speed and excitement to every battle.
—From the fancy Mirror Blade combo strike…
—…to the all-powerful Dragon Roar finisher!
Assault Action: Team Up With Allies to Go for Sequel Attacks!
Your Assault Gauge fills up as time passes during battle. When it’s maxed out, you can launch an Assault Action that calls upon your party members to execute follow-up attacks.
The special arts skills each character uses can be set up in advance; combine them with special arts from the character you’re controlling to create your own original combos!
—If an enemy attack puts you in Break mode..
—Call for help from your reserve characters!
—Use powerful special arts to turn the tables!
Star Ocean Evolved! Mind-Blowing Battles With Eye-Popping Visuals!
The combat visuals have been completely upgraded for this title. Battles have been given a facelift, and the combat is more fast-paced, giving the fights a gorgeous, refined feel. From Claude’s special arts skills like “Dragon Roar” to flashy symbology strikes like Celine’s “Southern Cross” or Rena’s “Star Flare,” the latest visual techniques make every battle more exciting than ever.
—Southern Cross
—Extinction
■ Private Actions
How You Talk with Friends Changes the Story in Many Ways
During the game, your party will split up at certain points and temporarily go their own ways, letting your protagonist have individual story events with them. These Private Actions can affect how the other characters see you, and some may even lead to major changes in the overall plot. There are also far more Private Actions than can be seen in one playthrough, helping add depth to the story each time.
—Private Actions can change how intimate characters are with you. They may even affect the ending…?
—Private Action points are marked on the map, so check them out when you visit a town!
■ Item Creation
Make Your Own All-Powerful Weapons and Armor! Traditional Item Creation Evolved!
Make your own all-powerful weapons and armor! Traditional Item Creation evolved! Item creation, a hallmark of the series, has advanced even further, letting you add special effects known as Factors to the items you make. Be it an all-mighty weapon that also heals HP or an accessory that constantly refills MP, you can create unique items no one has ever come up with before, letting you go deeper than ever with party building.
—Item Creation allows you to imbue items with special effects known as Factors, which are different from regular effects.
■ Super Specialties
Cook, Publish, or Even Conduct an Orchestra With Your Friends!
In addition to item creation, you can give Skill Points to your characters to help them learn various special skills. When characters with the right combination of skills come together, it’ll unlock a powerful Super Specialty. These include all kinds of useful skills for adventuring—for example, the Master Chef Super Specialty lets you cook dishes with powerful effects that cannot be made with regular Cooking. Similarly, the Bunny Call Super Specialty calls a Bunny into the field, which you can ride on and use to traverse the field much more quickly than with normal travel.
—Use Master Chef to create dishes with super-powerful Effects!
—With the Bunny Call Super Specialty, you can travel around the field on the back of a Bunny!
■ Minigames
From Cute (but Heated) Bunny Races to the Pulse-Pounding Arena!
You’ll unlock access to a variety of minigames as you proceed in the story. These include the Arena, where you fight tough battles while restricted by certain conditions, and Bunny Racing, where adorable bunnies race hard and potentially earn you a fortune! Win these games to earn prizes and rewards, but don’t let them distract you too much from the adventure!
—Test your skills against a wealth of foes in the Arena!
—Earn fabulous prizes in Bunny Racing!
■ World Map Fun: Fishing
Becoming a Fishing Master in Rivers, Oceans, Wells, or Even Outer Space!
Fishing spots can now be found on the world map, letting you enjoy fishing at rivers, oceans, and even wells or swimming holes. You may also find these spots in dungeons and other dangerous locales—but if you reel in the wrong creature, you could have a fight on your hands!
In addition to expanding the game’s exploration aspect, you can also exchange the fish you catch with NPCs for useful items. Some speak of uncatchable “giants” lurking somewhere out there… but travel far enough, and you might just complete your Fish Encyclopedia!
—Fishing spots exist on the world map, as well as at riversides in town.
—Use Fast Travel at any time to return to locations that you have already visited.
—Reel the Fish Collector, a new tutorial character.
Star Ocean: The Second Story R is due out for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Switch, and PC via Steam on November 2 worldwide. Read more about the game here.

Best 7 Dragon Ball Filler Villains
Honorable mentions are Nicky and just him. Smoke weed everyday
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Garlic Sr.
I'd have liked to see this character, instead of his ripoff son. He's still kinda Piccolo tbh, but Kami having a rival is a fun idea, as it gives him more parallels with Goku.
Tumblr media
Zaarco and Raiti
Fake Namek was fun, right? I thought it was fun as a kid. And Team four star is so old that they gave them Aqua teen Hunger Force voices. Like I had to look that shit up
Tumblr media
Turles
Super does evil Goku worse than Tree of Might, but Turles is still basically Raditz without the Goku connection. He looks like sexy Goku and that's always unnerved me a little, but his movie is baller (for a Z movie) and I kinda like Raditz's generic villainy regardless
Tumblr media
Cooler
Eh, same with Turles. He's sexier Frieza and yea that's all it takes sometimes.
Tumblr media
King Moai of Arlia
Bug planet was another fun diversion. Villain vs. Villain, except this dude has a has no idea what he's up against, and Vegeta is feeling uncharacteristically coy.
Tumblr media
Darkness
Look how cool this dude looks. He's the Legion of Doom's Fortress and he gets even scarier when he transforms into Roshi. In the comic, Goku is just given the Ultra Divine Water, but the anime makes him work for it. The only other eldritch Dragon Ball villain I know of is Hirudegarn, but in his second form he's just a really tall bug man, so Darkness is better ez
Tumblr media
Paragus
Filler King
And no I'm not referring to the Super version, I mean OG Paragus, the evil scheming bastard that actually plans shit longterm unlike actually every other Saiyan. Super Paragus is good too, but he's more of a bitter old man than a villain. He never has real agency or a way of achieving his goals beyond triggering his son. Dbz Paragus just incidentally has a son that's the Legendary Super Saiyan. Everything else is all him, like he probably would've even succeeded if not for Broly being Broly

"... we did not count kills when I was younger, only planets destroyed or conquered. My count last I'd checked, alongside Nappa's, was 47 with the addition of Planet Arlia, where we'd been prior to Earth.
While some worlds were purposefully left with survivors upon a superior's command, most I was sent to were to be purged.
Beyond that, I recall whole cities worth of Earthlings wiped out in our arrival, whole villages torn through in my pursuit of the Namekian Dragon Balls, a stand of a stadium's worth of civilian casualties when I let the wizard sink his hooks in me... and, while not by my own hands, all the deaths Buu caused were in no small part my fault.
The deaths caused by and after my arrival on Earth onward were widely undone using the Dragon Balls, but I do not make any more habit of forgetting them than I do with the ones that weren't.
One's past needs always be remembered, even if it only serves you as an example of what not to be going forwards with your life.

Dragonball Z: Abridged Episode 5 Review
Originally posted August 12th, 2015
Dark comedy: one of the series’ greatest strengths.
Tumblr media
“Vegeta: Kills Bugs Dead” is a strange episode of Dragonball Z: Abridged. On the one hand, a lot of this episode helps solidify Team Four Star’s comedic style, with two of the most quotable jokes from the series being used for the first time here. On the other hand, most of the episode is spent on an “A-story” that is completely irrelevant to the plot, and the rest of the episode is too disjointed to clearly follow, jumping around between three different scenarios without no real thematic or tonal connection. And yet, the strangest thing about this episode is that despite its clear weaknesses, it works decently well.
Our “A-story” is with Vegeta and Nappa, who while traveling to earth, make a brief pit stop on Arlia, a planet home to a race of locust people. They’re imprisoned immediately on arrival, and discover that the people of Arlia are ruled by a terrible despot. Naturally, neither Nappa nor Vegeta care about their fate, and upon being propositioned by another prisoner, Vegeta breaks out and makes his way to the throne room. After Nappa instantaneously defeats their elite guards, he forces the king and queen to mate in front of him, which leads Vegeta to kill them, fly off of the planet, and destroy it entirely. This is a dark story, make no mistake, and Team Four Star doesn’t actually shy away from the darkness, letting the absolute tragedy of it all sink in on us as it does with Nappa.
Of course, Team Four Star is still making a comedy, and so the rest of this episode seems designed to counteract the darkness of Vegeta and Nappa’s story. We see more of Piccolo training Gohan, which is always a treat, and Gohan fails to dodge Piccolo’s attacks over and over again, to great comedic effects. Goku finishes traveling along Snake Way and meets King Kai, who immediately agrees to train him out of loneliness, and reveals that the secret to the increased gravity on his planet is not because it is small, but because there is the spirit of a powerful pirate residing in the core. And in a completely unexpected aside, we go to the Hall of Justice, where the Justice League attempts to find a solution to the threat of the approaching Saiyans, who all groan at Aquaman’s desperate suggestion to use whales.
Team Four Star doesn’t succeed at mixing comedy and dark drama as well here as they eventually do, but episode 5 of DBZA hints at their interest in doing so, and shows their ability to shine as storytellers when working with stories like this. The darkness clashes with the comedy more often than it meshes in this episode, and some of the jokes aren’t properly established, and therefore miss completely (I love Super Kami Guru, but he’s only funny if you know who he is), but the episode works well, on the whole, and out of the episodes I’ve reviewed, it is the strongest one yet.
Rating: 3.5/5

Meanwhile, Goku tries to find King Kai on Snake Way. Across the planet, Tien and Chiaotzu find their training interrupted by Launch. After a brief scuffle with the monster Yeddy, the Arlians realize that the two Saiyans are more than they can handle. On planet Arlia, Vegeta and Nappa become prisoners of the tyrant king who rules the planet. Gohan’s wilderness adventure continues, as he makes a new dinosaur friend! He’s happy to finally have some company until he’s harshly reminded that not all dinosaurs are friendly! The robot has lived alone in the cave for over 30 years, and he’s not happy to have visitors! To escape a pack of wild animals, Gohan ventures into an ancient cave, where he meets an old Capsule Corp robot. Korin wants Krillin, Yamcha, Tien, and Chiaotzu to report for special training! Meanwhile, Gohan’s grueling training causes him to undergo a shocking transformation! But that isn’t easy when he’s tired, hungry - and being chased by bloodthirsty dinosaurs! Alone in the wilderness, he must quickly learn to take care of himself. Gohan begins his first day of Piccolo’s training. Meanwhile, Goku embarks on a new adventure in the next world, as he travels the endless Snake Way to reach the legendary King Kai! Piccolo takes Gohan into the wild for a harsh training program. When Raditz prepares to strike back, Goku must make the ultimate sacrifice to save his son! Gohan unleashes a mighty attack that not even Radtiz can resist! But as quickly as his power appears, it vanishes. He needs time to gather energy for the blast, which means Goku must fight Raditz alone! Piccolo may have a way to stop Raditz - the Special Beam Cannon! There’s only one problem. Raditz has kidnapped Gohan, and unless Goku agrees to join the sinister Saiyan, he may never see his son again! All hope is not lost, however, as a second visitor arrives, and Goku forges an unlikely alliance! The smiles quickly fade, however, as an unexpected visitor - Raditz - lands on the island. Goku and Gohan attend a reunion on Master Roshi’s island, where Goku introduces his son to all of his old friends. A new threat - a powerful and sinister alien - is on its way to Earth. Goku’s quiet life with his family and friends is about to be interrupted.

In view of the 30th anniversary of Vejita's first Anime appearance, what's your view of Toei's original color scheme for the character in DBZ? Does part of you wish they maintained Ginger Geets?
GINGERETA!!!
Well, Ilove me some Vegeta in all different versions of him, but I’m very happy withthe way he’s looking these days (he was looking EXTRA-HOT in that new movie!),so the black hair suits him better, in my opinion.
Although, Imay be mistaken here, but I thought that his “coloring” in that particularmoment of the anime had to do with the light/atmosphere in Planet Arlia?
I’m notfully sure if that was supposed to be Veggie’s original color scheme, but likeI said, I could be wrong…

So I found the exact frame where my cel of Vegeta occurs! I've posted a screen cap of the shot alongside my cel, as well as the video. It happens five seconds in, and last for just a split second, but it's unmistakable! It's the scene on Planet Arlia, when Vegeta and Nappa are brought before the king of that planet, and he's telling them if they can defeat his warriors, they can have anything they want. Bad idea dude, lol. But I guess they were all doomed anyway.

why does everyone in dragon ball always throw rocks. like i know it’s not just vegeta but he definitely does it the most. he threw a rock at frieza for fuck’s sake like what the fuck did he expect would happen???
my theory is that at some point in the past vegeta nappa and raditz found a planet of aliens who weren’t like super strong or anything but were immune to everything that wasn’t a rock. so now he just throws rocks at people, just to be sure. either that or he’s just absolutely convinced that throwing rocks at people looks cool as hell and no one has ever bothered to tell him he looks silly
