Hi hello I love you art and especially your Zelda AU/fake game. 💛 I asked a million years ago about an idea for a monster in your setting and then never followed up because ADHD. So here I am, finally putting together all the thoughts I have.

The monster is called a Tikapuut [from the Finnish word for ladder]. It's a tall, spindly thing with an almost exposed central spine/core and dozens of rows of bony rib-like structures all along the core. The ribs have holes and ridges that shift and create an unsettling, eerie whistle as wind passes through them. The ribs are large and surprisingly articulated, but fragile and breakable with a solid hit. It moves fast, though, snapping forward up to almost its full length around it with an over 180 degree arc around it.

To most creatures, the music of the Tikapuut is grating; it's atonal, uneven, makes your hair stand on end, touches the fear part of your brain. To fairies, though, the music is hypnotic. It's still creepy, but it draws them in. When a fairy gets close, the Tikapuut lashes out and consumes it, grabbing it with the spindly ribs and bringing it to its toothy mouth with a motion almost like an elevator; it closes lower pairs of ribs as it opens upper pairs, forcing the captured fairy higher and higher up the spine. A standard size Tikapuut can bring a fairy from the base of its spine to its mouth in about a minute.

Tikapuut are rare and solitary. Typically, they find a spot relatively near a fairy fountain or other magically-dense spot to lure in a steady stream of wayward fairies and stay there for decades (centuries, if they are fed enough). They don't like to plant themselves too close to the fountains, because they risk overfeeding and wiping out the fairy population (or drawing unwanted attention). A Tikapuut ideally lives off of 3 or 4 fairies a year, but can survive on 1 or 2 per decade if desperate. Because fairies are basically raw magic, Tikapuut can grow incredibly large and powerful if well fed.

Overall, they are deeply unsettling to look at and be around. Hearing the music of a Tikapuut is a bad omen because they prey on fairies, a symbol of goodness in most cultures in Hyrule, but it also signals that there will likely be fewer monsters around, as monsters are equally unsettled by the sound. Be wary, though; the monsters you do find around a Tikapuut lair are more agitated and prone to attack.

I can tell you've thought about it carefully! It would be really creepy, hearing its sounds and trying to figure out where it's hidden!!

Hello I am actually obsessed with the daytime future post (broken day AU? Like daybreak?). I adore light as vile in fiction because it's so different and fascinating. The dark hides horrors and plays on the fear of the unknown, the anxiety of knowing something could be after you. But daylight horror is in front of you, and you cannot hide from it. Violence and agony on full display. And of course the over abundance of a good thing becoming sickening, turning life into toxin.

Maybe the servants are Helioptiles/Heliolisks (they get Solar Power and are sun themed in general). If you want to replace Dusknoir, he could be a water type and that's part of how he rose in rank to be Dialga's personal servant. Inteleon could be interesting because of the spy motif, or Slowking for the intelligence, or a fully evolve water starter for the imposing vibes. Carracosta is a good option too.

Light as a force that can be just as harsh and brutal as it can good is so underutilized and I agree, it's a super cool concept with a lot of potential for horror and cruelty!

Those are some super good ideas for the servants, intelleon and slowing are especially good 😭😭😭😭 I could see both being dialga's main servants - with slowking as the brain of their operations and intelleon as their (probably rather brutal) sniper and master of disguise.

I could see Intelleon heading back to the past to pose as an explorer in pretty much exactly the same way dusknoir does in canon - which then results in the very funny situation of having TWO separate renowned explorers in town giving completely contradictory stories while the townsfolk struggle to decide which to trust 😂

I don't feel like reblogging the post again now that I've seen your tags but re: x reader stuff, generally you cant actually block them (easily) because they don't tag "x reader", they tag "[character] x reader". Since it's not an exact match, the filter doesn't work. You'd have to block every "[character] x reader" tag to avoid it

i meant block the actual phrase. there is another filtering system on tumblr directly below the filtered tag section. u can put in keywords and it'll block any posts with those words in them. the option is on both mobile and desktop devices. it is an not xkit thing. as long as the person puts the term "x reader" in their post (pretty hard not to) it should block that for u

Hi I just emerged from a haze of reading all 513,000 words of CTB in less than a week. I have so many Thoughts that I can't condense into something readable. I am rotating the boys in my head like a microwave. I don't know what to do with my life now that I have to Sit Here with no one around me to talk to about this story. Thank you for everything.

How carefully/detailed are your chapter outlines, if you use any? Do you have a vague idea or is it carefully plotted? How intentional is the pacing of the past story vs the present story (like when to show events in the past relative to when they're referenced in the present)?

No, thank YOU for being a sane person and NOT reading the entire story in one day lol

For story outlines, I split the difference between having everything planned and making shit up as I go. Here's a photo of my outline for everything from the sixth chapter up until Spirit's return:

(You can see here that there's a lot of shit that got changed or deleted entirely, but you get the idea.)

So you can see that I have broad strokes figured out in advance-- basic plot stuff like "character does x-- as well as a few smaller story beats. I wait until I'm about to write a chapter to figure out a play by play of what needs to happen.

My main reason for doing this is that I think figuring out the plot is the funnest part of writing, so having outlines that are too thorough saps out all of the enjoyment. But plotting like this gives me a lot of flexibility to add or remove ideas/scenes based on feedback from readers.

The best example of this is that plot point there labeled "Travel to Cia." That is a chapter better known as the Fever Dreams. I came up with the entire fever dream sequence when I realized that I needed to go into more detail about how Warriors grew up. (This is one of the many reasons why I love getting all kinds of feedback and comments from you guys-- it lets me know what I need to add or take away to tell the story right).

For pacing, everything was anchored around making sure the child leaves the war (in the past) happens in the same chapter as when Spirit arrives (in the present). I believe I wrote out everything that happened in the present day first, then paced out everything in the past based on it.

Managing the information economy was surprisingly easy, all things considered. Warriors is the only character who knows the entire story, but he is reluctant to even think about what happened. So when something is mentioned in narrative, he only provides Just Enough Context for the reader to get what happened, but none of the details.

From there, the other characters can just organically bring up what little they know. It helps that I didn't care if readers knew what happened in the past before it happened. The tension in the past isn't that readers don't know what's going to happen. It's that readers know how the story ends but they don't know HOW it'll get there.

Plus, it's important for writers to remember that your readers aren't inherently on the same brainwave as you. Unless you explicitly tell them something, there's a high chance they are not going to connect the pieces the same way you do. I thought I was giving the whole goose away with explaining what happened in the past; in reality, readers got all the pieces but none of the glue that connected them together.

And if people do put it together? Good! They can sit in agony knowing they can't stop what will happen.
