2022 AO3 Stats - Vox Machina & Mighty Nein

(for previous stats check out my ao3 stats tag - most relevant are my end of c2 m9 ship stats)

Behold! The top ships! Marvel at the tangle of lines! These are in 3-month intervals to keep it at least somewhat legible, and I'm sorry to say that you'll probably need to really zoom in to make sense of it, so I can't do a full text description. I will point out where they break 200 fics, however - Perc'ahlia at the end of 2016, Widomauk in mid-2018 (following Molly's death), Shadowgast and Beaujester in early 2019 (with the Essek reveal), Beauyasha from October 2020 through June 2021 (canon, end of Campaign) and Shadowgast from April 2021 to end of 2022, and Laudna/Imogen from July to December 2022 (following Laudna's death).

Additionally: the only C1 ship to be in the top 5 ships while C2 aired was Perc'ahlia, and it only reached it occasionally; throughout C3 Shadowgast has yet to drop below 2, and both Perc'ahlia and Beauyasha have consistently been in the top 5.

Looking closer at each campaign below the cut!

These charts are also in 3-month intervals, to at least try and pretend they're legible. Initial work was done in 2020, so fics deleted before that aren't included, but fics deleted after that may be (depending on how big a time gap there was between posting and deleted). Because of that, these aren't 1:1 with what you'll see on ao3 today but are very close.

So, the fewer the fics, the messier the chart. Grog doesn't really have a clear dominant ship. The two that stand out are Grog/Vax, which is prevelant from late 2016 to the end of C1, and Grog/Keyleth, which picks up steam and is the dominant post-C1 ship. Altoug, interestingly enough, Grog/Keyleth has fallen out of the way since end of 2020, leaving Grog/Vax to be dominant in 2022. The only other fic to get more than 2 fics is a single Grog/Pike peak in late 2016.

Keyleth

Vaxleth is the big boy here - spiking to 52 from July 2016 to March 2017 (yes, there were three 52s in a row) and 73 in January 2022 as Legend of Vox Machina came out. It was up and down but overall pretty consistent and has never not been Keyleth's top ship.

...althtough Vexleth comes close, only one fic shy in April-June 2022, reaching an all time high post LoVM. Other than that, its been the constant number two - Pikeleth beating it by 1 fic in April-Jun 2017 as the exception that proves the rule. Percleth and Pikeleth are strong during C1 but drop off after; Grogleth is the main pos-C1 but all of them fall to the side aftertheir late 2020 peak, with only Percleth seeing a very small LoVM resurgence.

Percival de Rolo

Perc'ahlia breaks the axis with 182, 256, and 138 fics from July 2016 - March 2017 and a 120 fic LoVM resurgence in early 2022. It had a later start than Vaxleth but quickly outshown it, and has been in and out but fairly constant during C2. The combo of C3 cameos & LoVM has kept it at it's C1 highs and that's only expected to continue once S2 drops.

Perc'ildan is the constant number 2, save for a small peak of Percy/Tary following his introduction in 2017 and Percy/Pike beating out with 5 fics to Perc'ildan and Percleth's 4 in late 2020; nothing else breaks 5,

Pike Trickfoot

So, during C1 things were a bit of a mix. Pikelan started strong, but Percy/Pike is the top in July-September 2016, and Pike/Vex and Pke/Keyleth for Femslash February 2017. However, Percy's the only one of these to really have much to show post-C1.

Pikelan is highest at the end of C1, and then is pretty constant. It did see a spike for LoVM, but not a very significant one.

Scanlan Shorthalt

Pikelan dominates and always has with a Vaxlan exception for the end of C1 / The Wish. Everything else is in the minor leagues - Vaxlan has a showing, the rest are only 1-2 fics and hard to interpret.

Vax'ildan

Vaxleth is the big boy here - spiking to 52 from July 2016 to March 2017 (yes, there were three 52s in a row) and 73 in January 2022 with LoVM. However, unlike Keyleth, Vax is way more even - Vaxmore beats out Vaxleth in late 2020, and Perc'ildan in April-June 2022. Vaxmore was prety constant, dropping only slightly post-C1; Perc'ildan had a mre significant drop, but then a more signficant LoVM resurgence.

Vax/Grog and Vax/Scanlan are pretty comparable; Vax/Scanlan peaks in late 2017 with the Vecna stuff, but Vax/Grog is the bigger ship post-C1. Both still only broke above 5 for the end of C1.

Vex'ahlia

Perc'ahlia breaks the axis with 182, 256, and 138 fics from July 2016 - March 2017 and a 120 fic LoVM resurgence in early 2022. Same as Percy, there's only one other ship of note - Vexleth, which hits a high following LoVM but never breaks 25.

Pike/Vex hits a Femslash February high in 2017, as does Zahra/Vex (which is at Vexleth levels for 2016) but everything else is dead quiet.

Taryon Darrington

Unsurprisingly, Tary's pretty quiet. Post-introduction there's a Percy/Tary high; after that, there are occasional Percy/Tary and Tary/Lawrence fics, but oly in the 1-2 range.

So, Widofjord started out the top ship, and stayed that way through early 2019 before slowly dropping to the wayside. Fjorclay took over after that and has one of the sharpest declines ever, currently sitting at like 2/year. Fjorester, always a top but secondary ship, bursts up to a 160 peak with the end of C2 and them being canon, falling back down to average levels albeit the top ship. Fjorester gets a small bump for the M9 Reunion.

Also notable: Fjolly starts strong but fades out following Molly's death; there's a peak in Avantika/Fjord during the pirate arc that trails off, and we have two Fjord/Nott peaks in late 2019 and early 2021 coinciding with peak Nott bullying Fjord moments.

Beauregard Lionett

Beauyasha is the top ship, with a peak of 343 in the end of C2. Beaujester takes over during 2019 following the Zuala reveal and Beau revealing her crush on Jester, but falls off during the Hiatus as Beauyasha become canon. The Ot3 is really the only secondary ship, aside from a tny peak of Beau/Keg after they fucked - there's no similar Beau/Reani peak.

Caleb Widogast

Widomauk dominates in 2018, htting a high with Molly's death, and then slowly but steadily declines after that. Widojest makes a valiiant attempt in 2019, and is pretty strong during tthe hiatus, but Shadowgast over takes, with its first peak in early 2020 with the Treason Reveal, and then a 677 fic peak for the end of C2 (the highest of Any Ship Ever).

Widofjord was the second ship but fell off after Essek's introduction; Clayleb was briefly popular in early 2019 but fell off as Fjorclay grew. Widobrave gets an alltime high with Veth getting her body back in early 2020, and is at simlar levels with Widofjord for the rest of C2, but falls off more sharply after. Blumentrio is similarly low but gets peaks in 2019 with the Scourger introduction and at the end of C2 with the Eiselcross arc, and has been pretty constant after.

Nott / Veth Brenatto

Nott/Yeza is the big ship with its high point following Yeza's introduction/rescue, and stays a pretty constant ship. Widobrave takes over with the ritual to get Veth's body back, and they're close for 2020 but Widobrave falls off faster, and doesn't get a resurgence with M9 Reunited as Nott/Yeza did.

Other than that....there's some Nott/Jester in late 2018, some Nott/Cad in early 2019 I think was just one person, and Fjord/Nott, which peaks in late 2019 and early 2021 with peak Nott Bullying Fjord moments. post C2, it is the only other Nott ship. Like. At all.

Jester Lavorre

Fjorester starts out at the top, but slowly declines through 2019 until the Eiselcross arc and end of C2-canon. Even then, it never its the highs Beaujester or Widojest do as they battle for dominance in 2019/2020. Both have fallen down to be closer to the levels seen by Jolly, Yashter, and the Beauyashter ot3.

Mollymauk Tealeaf

Widomauk. It exists. Widofjord used to exist. It doesn't, anymore. A few people wrote Jolly, and that's not really a thing. You can start to see people writing Molly/Essek. They're doing so because Shadowgast is popular, although the ot3 tag isn't super prevelant/comparable.

More seriously, you can see a peak following Lucien's return but it then drops off with no real end of C2 spike because...well, Kingsley. Hard to say whether it's hit a constant or if it'll continue to decline.

Yasha Nydoorin

Beauyasha had it's heyday in post-Hiatus C2. It's since dropped back to early levels, still far and away the top Yasha ship. Yashter & the Beauyashter ot3 are the only others that really compare, save a small Zuala peak after the backstory reveal that gets occasional fics. Even these have fallen to the wayside post-C2. Only Beauyasha remains.

Caduceus Clay

So, with Caduceus, he's the replacement for Widomauk in late 2018 to early 2019, before Fjorclay takes the stand, with a 120 fic peak during the 2020 hiatus. It then immediately falls down to nothing, as does the brief fling with Cadwulf, since Taliesin went on Talks and confirmed that Caduceus was Asexual. Since then...things have been pretty quiet, never getting a full 0 ship fics, but also never getting more than 5.

Kingsley Tealeaf

So, in the immediate post C2, we see some Caleb/Kingsley, comparable to Widomauk, with some Essek/Kingsley because ot3.

Fjord/Kingsley is perfectly hidden behind Jester/Kingsely, as their distribution is identical: because it's actually Fjord/Jester/Kingsley, which is actually the #2 ship.

i know you ship beauyasha but i was wondering what your other ships were!

OOO boy, for CR this is a big question that i don’t think you were prepared for my thoughts on so i’m gonna give the TLDR just for whoever doesn’t want to bother reading My Thoughts^TM:

For C1: Pikelan, Perc’ahlia, and a teeeeensy bit of Vax’ilmore For C2: Pretty much everything!

Okay, onward to the Thoughts:

People talk about Polymachina a lot but I actually find the M9 much more susceptible to poly-ness and openness in shipping. Other than the canon sexualities that block certain ships (aka shipping Beau or Yasha with men), I’m pretty much open to anything. The few things I don’t ship as much are simply because I feel like I don’t have enough on screen time for them (yet), for semi to very popular ships in fandom, that’d probably be like CalebxMolly or CalebxEssek, neither of which I’m against, I think I just need more to get behind them. Especially Essek, which has a real possibility of happening in canon, if I get some more development, I could potentially ship it.

Other than that, for C2, I’m very open with ships. Beauyasha, Beaujester, Fjorjester, and Fjorclay are some popular ones I’m all down with. I enjoy the little hints of Widojest that Caleb certainly throws out. My guilty pleasure sort of ship would probably be Widobrave because I do love Yeza & Veth’s relationship, but I also adore the way Sam plays Veth’s feelings for Caleb (as Caleb pines for Jester). Even things that I don’t see as often like Widofjord or Yashter or VethxJester, I think are cute even though I don’t see romance in the canon. 

As for what I predict to be canon, I’m confident (bar any sudden deaths) that Fjorjester and Beauyasha will be endgame, but that doesn’t really stop me from liking other ships. The multishipping is real in C2.

As for C1, I think possibly because I was very open to spoilers and I knew the endgames, I wasn’t as open with ships. Also, I just didn’t feel that many romance vibes other than the canon. Okay, a little Vex x Kiki is cute, but other than that. It was mostly- here is the canon, either I vibe with the ship or I don’t. I ended up vibing with Pikelan WAY more than I planned to, I fell in love with the gnomes. I kind of knew I’d end up loving Perc’ahlia and I did, but not to the extent I love Pikelan honestly. As for Vaxleth, it just wasn’t my vibe. I love the way Marisha & Liam RP intensely as Caleb & Beau, but put into a romance it was a little much for me. That being said, still don’t hate the ship or anything. Oh, also Kash & Zahra and Kimallura still own me. 

And those are my ship thoughts. Like I said, with the many, many characters of CR, it’s a lot, so I don’t blame you if you didn’t read this.

I was 5 gins in at a socially distanced birthday party the other week and I made friends with a friend-of-friend who noticed my lockscreen is nintendo's edelgard lockscreen art and we got chatting abt ye olde fired emblems (how he's emulated a few, how I'm too chicken to play Lyn's game because permadeath, etc) but most of it was on the mechanics of the game & it hit me properly when he asked what I'd add to the CF ending cards as conversation that oh boy i rlly did not interact with FE as a piece of media in the same way he did so I'm there, strawberry gin in hand, thinking 'look. I'll out myself as one of king max' wild things irl if I recount how my ideal CF ending card is just poly-eaglry with equal parts fluffy little tea times and E rated shenanigans when we've literally only known each other for 23 minutes' so I said smth about how I wanted there to be more direct crossover of the ending cards with each other bc im a SAP and ive always had a soft spot for post-war emotional healing fiction. but I think tummngler dot comme is allowed to know the truth and that its just that my little fandom brain fell for polymachina in cr and by god it will fall for post war poly eagles as well hkfhdjfjf

What’s the most devastating PC death/defeat? oh boy .......... i’m gonna have to go with scanlan’s second death to raishan, both because of the effects that it had literally lasting to the end of the campaign, but also just for the emotional TOLL of everything that happened in the direct aftermath.  “Fix Him”, Percy getting to come back but Pike failing Scanlan’s check, Keyleth going just BONKERS trying to find Kima and Allura in the ocean because she refused to lose another, “I think I miss a whole lot of people”

it wasn’t the death that made me cry the most, but I think it’s the one that brought the least sense of ... a satisfying ending, i guess. 

30. What’s your favorite CR romantic/sexual relationship?

I’m horrible at picking favorites, so you’re not getting just one sorry .... CR2 - fjorclay i think edges out on top bc i cannot pick one favorite jester ship without feeling guilt over not picking another, because simply everyone in is love with her CR1 - if i’m not allowed to just say polymachina, then percahlia. i genuinely love pretty much any ship involving any of the half elves, but percahlia holds a special place in my heart bc they got their happy ending dammit and you just LOVE to see it

NPCS - KIMALLURA KIMALLURA KIMALLURA KIMALLURA KIMALLURA KIMALLURA KIMALLURA KIMALLURA 10. Have you ever spotted a fellow critter in the wild?  Saved this one for last because oh boy is it a doozy. So, imagine yourself in a college dorm room, and it’s like 11:48pm, all your roommates are either in their beds or officially out for the night, and you’re just chilling doing some homework with youtube in the background (I’ll be real, 95% chance it was critical role, they’re very good for me to have as “noise I know I’ll enjoy but isn’t super distracting” when doing schoolwork).  And then someone starts banging supremely hard on your suite door, and that really weirds you out, bc the RA doesn’t do random checks, no one’s expecting any visitors, and whoever’s at the door isn’t also yelling “HEY IM LOCKED OUT LEMME IN PLEASE”.  You ignore it for a bit, but it doesn’t go away, and they’re knocking like, really loud, so you go to answer the door, and you say “who is it” and you get back “CAMPUS POLICE OPEN UP!”  So you ask what’s wrong and they tell you, “we got an alert that one of the rooms almost set off a smoke detector, so we have to check and see what the problem is”. (first of all ???? hello????? why do they monitor that, and also why is it campus police’s job, whatever). And you ask what room, and they give you the room number, and its your friend who was deffo hotboxing their space like 30 minutes ago and might still be smoking right now, so you tell the police “I think they’re asleep, I’ll go wake them up for you” and they say “sure” and wait outside the door for you to go wake your friend up.

So you run to their door and knock and say “Hey Are You Awake And Dressed Campus Police Need To Check A Smoke Alarm In There hideyourweedherei’llhelpyouholdstuff” and you toss the bag of weed through another friend’s open door and the suitemate follows you out like a minute later in a bathrobe, pretending to be groggy but really just blazed out of their mind, and says “Oh sorry I fell asleep with a candle on, must’ve been the smoke, there’s nothing wrong though”

And the police say “we still have to check, it’s policy” and one of them goes back to the room and the other is just standing in the living room with you.  And then. 

He points at the giant critical role poster on your living room wall and the matching critical role poster visible through your friends open doorway and says “you know, it really warms my heart seeing all the critical role stuff you guys have up, i’m a huge fan myself.”

And so you go “.............................. COOL” And the cop says “Who’s your favorite character?”

And you, still filled with panic that your friends about to get caught with weed, and tiredness from being up fairly late still doing homework, go, hey, you know, maybe if I soften this guy up he won’t murder my friend if they find weed, and you tell him “Oh, you know, it’s super hard to pick, but I’m partial to vox machina, cause I just finished campaign one last night” (This is a true statement).

And the cop goes “Oh gosh, yeah, I feel you, I watched that live, and I thought I was gonna make it through without crying, but Matt’s message at the very end really got me.”

And you go, “yeah, haha, it was really sad” And the cop goes “Yeah, I don’t know, something about hearing him talk about how much he loves the community just had me bawling.” And the other cop comes back out of the room and says they’re fine to go, and they leave, and the first cop waves a really friendly goodbye to you, and you feel like your eyes are going to fall out a little bit but at least this interaction is over.

And you turn around. And you realize, this entire time, you have been standing just below the image of sexy shirtless caleb from the critical role pinup calendar with a giant post it next to it that says THIS MAN INVENTED DUNEMANCY AND THERES NOTHING YOU CAN DO ABOUT IT. And you go back to your room and you keep doing your math homework because that’s literally the only thing your brain can handle anymore. And that, friends, is the story of the Crit Role Candle Cop.

Frankly, I'd be more forgiving of Nott being left out of Polynein out of a misguided idea of it feeling pseudo-incestuous with Caleb if a) they weren't finding a way to work around Beau being staunchly lesbian already and b) Polymachina managed it with two literal twins in the mix, and it never caused a problem for Pike and Grog in Polymachina either despite their pseudo-sibling relationship being way, way more pronounced than Nott and Caleb's pseudo-filial bond ever was.

I HAD ALMOST BLOCKED REPLACEMENT SON OUT OF MY DAMN MIND, thanks pal. oh my god.

this is why i also get so — i like the scene where she says “he’s my boy” a lot; but i often talk pretty resistantly about it, because people take it so much as the crux and extent of her character, and completely literal. she said it one time. caleb isn’t even aware she did. it was months ago. but people love it because it also is a great excuse — you like your parents, but you inevitably move out and leave them. it’s safer for nott to be his literal mom with her own life than for it to be a requited incestual friendship.

there are definitely valid reasons not to ship nott with whomever. i personally do not ship her with anyone in particular! she struggles with myriad issues and frankly deserves someone who will be willing to focus on her, not allow her to deflect by caring for others. yeza is great for her in that regard! but it’s just. it’s so telling. sure, i do not find nott attractive; but that doesn’t mean the characters wouldn’t. i don’t ship her, but that doesn’t mean she’s a hermit — she has a husband and a son! she is the only member of the mighty nein to be part of a canon relationship! — or that jester and caleb and the others wouldn’t want, in some weird poly au, to at least invite her along to see if she’s interested.

So I did a similar game not too long ago and picked some of my older OTPs, so this time around I’ll pick some of my more current ships:

JesterxTopTable (Critical Role) - okay I know it’s cheating since it’s technically three ships rolled into one but I really do ship Jester with Fjord, Beau and Caleb almost equally (and who’s to say she has to end up with only ONE, polymachina lives in the mighty nein!). 

Shadowgast (Critical Role) - i will ALWAYS be weak for essek and caleb. just... two people who just want to experiment and do magic and have bonded over all of these things so just kiss already

jonmartin (The Magnus Archives) - my latest obsession and how could i NOT ship the soft boi with the grumpy one??? huh??? was i supposed to see a traumatized man and how his co worker just gently brings him tea and looks over him and cares for him and just... NOT ship that???? utter delusions!

CalxMerrin (Jedi Fallen Order) - listen, merrin is my sweetest girl and cal is my sweetest boy and they have both lost their families and have now found each other and i just want them to smooch and live happily ever after.

Gods please - I too am in desperate need of attention and interaction - Tell me your favorite CR ship and why

Hhhhhh god this is hard! I’m gonna do a few bc I don’t have like a single CR ship, they shift constantly, so I’m gonna list the ones I have preference to!

Vaxleth- A lot of people think this came out of nowhere, and it sort of did, but I actually really loved watching this relationship grow. Vax making the first move, Keyleth letting herself grow and open up to him, watching them explore this new ground, and eventually their trip to Zephra as well as Vax’s goodbye had me in tears

Perc’ahlia- Look, Percy and Vex deserve literally everything, I knew they were going to get together from the start, they have so much love and support for one another, they’ve talked each other back from death, they lived their happily ever after and I love them both so much! One of the best moments for this ship was when Percy gives her the baroness title bc ***fuck that’s good***

Pikelan- Look, I don’t love Scanlan Shorthalt, but I was in it for the long haul with these two. Will they, won’t they games are always hard for me, but this one was honestly really cute (even tho Scanlan is a gross pervert and his jokes about sexual assault like aren’t funny). I do really love Pikelan and the best Pikelan moment for me was the night Scanlan proposes and Pike admits she read his letter

Pikeval- I’m such a slut for H/C hjkhsbkek Pike would have been so good for Percy, I don’t think it would have been the best the other way around, but I loved the idea of this AND THEN ASHLEY CONFIRMED PIKE HAD A CRUSH ON PERCY IN THE FINAL VM TALKS AND I DID DIE THATS MY FAVORITE PIKEVAL MOMENT HHH

Perc’ildan- Look, I think I just ship Percy with everyone bc it’s cute, but this was actually my first VM ship, like episode 6 or 7 I was on this shit. Smoke - Scanlan finds himself simultaneously scared of and turned on by an angry Percy. (Perclan/Scancy)

Flirtation - Vex and Scanlan flirt so much that some people think they’re attracted to each other, but they both know better. (Platonic Vexlan)

Level - Vax gets a brand new game in and makes fun of Scanlan for being ‘old’. (Modern AU; Vaxlan)

Cows - Things might have gone to shit, but they’ll always have their memories. As Vox Mcchina climbs the tower to what might be their final fight, they each find themselves thinking back to past adventures. (VM as family)

Insect - Scanlan has some insecurities that he could never share with the others.

Poisonous - They called themselves a family, but it was Scanlan who knew the truth. They weren’t a family at all. They were poison. (Pre & post episode 85)

Fortunate - Scanlan thinks about the very different lives he and Percy came from and comes to the conclusion that everyone ends up the same, no matter where they start.

Nude - A naked Scanlan was a sight all members of Vox Machina were used to. (Polymachina)

Freewill - Scanlan thinks about Vax’s ‘fate-touched’ situation and concludes that it’s all a load of bull.

Challenge - Scanlan brags about his amazing endurance and Percy decides to give it a test ...... for science. (Perclan/Scancy)

Smooth - Scanlan has naturally really smooth skin and something about that really frustrates Vex. (Polymachina)

Genuine - Underneath all of the smarmyness and flirtation, everything Scanlan said to Pike was completely genuine. (Pikelan)

Exorcism - Vax, Percy, and Grog visit an abandoned, ‘haunted’ hospital, and make a new friend. (Modern AU; the boys of VM (I don’t tihnk theres a ship name for that))

Artist - Percy is a tired art school student and Scanlan is the promiscuous model. (Perclan/Scancy)

Better - People ask Scanlan how he’s doing after different traumatizing events in his life. (Works backwards form adulthood to childhood)

Star - While talking about what the stars might be, Pike, Scanlan, and Grog all reveal their individual feelings on faith. (Team tol n smols)

Crush - It took all of about two seconds for Scanlan to fall head over heels for Gern. (Gernlan)

Charming - Scanlan is very charming. (Polymachina)

Abnormally - Scanlan is abnormally small for a gnome his age.

Cybernetic - Percy can’t decide if making this android was his best idea, or his worst. (Sci-Fi AU; Perclan/Scancy)

Error - Percy and Scanlan keep thinking about why they shouldn’t be doing this as they fall into bed together. (Perclan/Scancy)

First of all, what the actual fuck is Sam Riegal??????  Why would he do that to himself?????  Why would he do that to us?????  What kind of suffer for your art shit?????

Okay, that aside.  We needed this episode so bad y’all.  We needed some wacky hijinx after all that stressful shit...well, once the stressful shit was taken care of.

Percy’s very visible tiredness on the way back to the village fucked me up, guys.  Like at points, he seemed like he was ready to cry.  When will the world stop hurting this boy?

Love the little touch of Doty recording everything that isn’t interesting.  Doty’s literalness is going to be the source of so much joy.  I can see it already.

That ritual, man. That was some Extra shit with the violet light and the RAVEN QUEEN JUST FUCKING SHOWING UP RIGHT THERE AND BEING LIKE “SEE YOU BITCHES LATER; HAVE A NICE DAY”.  SHE’S FUCKING COOL BUT ALSO I’M SCARED.

VEX.  WHY THE FUCK YOU GOTTA LEAD WITH ORCUS OF ALL THINGS.  Y’ALL FINNA DIE.  ORCUS IS SO MUCH FUCKING WORSE THAN THORDAK OR THE FUCKING KRAKEN OR RAISHAN.  AND IF YOU FUCKING DIE BY ORCUS THAT’S PROBABLY THE WORSE BLOODY FATE, CAUSE THAT BOY ‘BOUT TO BRING YOU BACK AS HIS UNDEAD SLAVE FOR ETERNITY.  I AM ANXIETY.

Bottom line, though.  All of VM is bound to the Raven Queen now and we’re about to have a god arc (if they survive the Nine Hells, fuck).

Also, Keyleth voicing that she wants to settle down with Vax back in Zephra.  My feels.  They are everywhere.  Girl just wants to be normal and have a happy retirement with her boyfriend.  And also her best friend.

That was some A Grade Percleth Friendship this episode.  Their conversation highlighted their differences in such a soft way and they were just sitting on the beach while Percy was making seashell jewelry for everybody.  Now I’m imagining Percy and Vex visiting Keyleth and Vax constantly during retirement so that nobody feels like they have to give anything up.

Percy’s little “long may he reign” with the shell crown, though, and then the tiara he made for Vex (who was still super down for a seashell bra, omg).  Perfection.

Grog giving Tary the egg.  Dude.  Boy is gonna fucking die at a crucial moment.  Thanks, Grog.

Percy apologizing to Grog was THE LITERAL BEST.  MORE PERCY AND GROG MOMENTS.  PERCY CARES SO MUCH ABOUT BEING GOOD AND DOING RIGHT BY PEOPLE, ESPECIALLY THOSE HE LOVES, AND ACKNOWLEDGES THAT HE’S NOT PERFECT AND WILL PROBABLY FUCK UP AGAIN BUT HE’S TRYING TO DO BETTER.  SUCH GOOD CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT.  UGH.

And then he’s like “I’m too cruel to lead” and rips my heart out of my fucking chest.

Everything to do with Pike in this episode was fucking amazing.  I love how everyone sees her as this super impressive holy woman who can do no wrong, but she is also, in her heart, a massive fucking troll.  It’s so beautiful.  And like the whole thing with Tary.  I’m pretty sure he thinks she is actually Sarenrae’s daughter, like the full demigod deal.  Poor boy doesn’t know what he’s gotten himself into.

AND THEN PIKE BEING LIKE “YOU GOTTA LOOK AT THESE RISQUE FLASHCARDS OF MY FRIENDS EVERY NIGHT AND MEMORIZE THEIR NAMES; I WILL KNOW IF YOU FAIL TO DO SO” AND ENCOURAGING TARY TO ENGAGE IN POLYMACHINA.  WOW.  JUST WOW.

That evil ass journal, man.  Thought it was the Book of Vile Darkness.  Turns out it’s more like some Tom Riddle’s Diary shit.  Glad it couldn’t take hold of Vex.  Percy’s little kiss and “I’ll still love you if you turn bad” thing was SO GOOD.  What a loving and supportive boyfriend.  They are such a power couple.  It’s glorious.

Again, though.  Scared as all fuck for what’s coming up.  Please don’t die in the Hells or fighting Orcus, guys.  Just don’t.
