I hate it when a show I’m really into does exactly one thing so incredibly wrong that it ruins the whole thing. For me it was Camille’s audition in Netflix’s Hollywood. Not only was it not good and treated as if it was great. She couldn’t just be better than Claire, the white woman who auditioned before her, Claire had to intentionally sabotage her own performance to let the Black woman win and show what a kind and noble white lady she was. It was some of the most insulting, pandering shit i’ve ever seen.

Now what would have been SO much better (on top of either finding someone who could better handle the role of Camille or at least doing several more takes), is if Claire would have sabotaged her audition the first time and Camille did a perfect job but they still both recieved callbacks because, you know, racism. And before the second audition Camille confronts Claire about it, telling her she doesn’t need her help or her charity and if she doesn’t give 100 percent at the next audition then she doesn’t want the win. Make her competitive, bold and full of gumption, not passive in her own success. At the next audition both women give their A game but Camille comes out on top because she’s genuinely better. It would have been very Isis from Bring it On of her.

Now I’m not saying this is a perfect story choice but at least it wouldn’t have made me roll my eyes and shut the TV off
