hemicycle // luxembourg kirchberg
architect: pierre bohler
completion: 1979
the hemicycle on the kirchberg plateau is an incredibly futuristic building that is somewhat hidden in the middle of the kirchberg forest. it looks like a film set for a dystopian film, so overgrown and lonely it stands on the road. fun fact: the european parliament, for which the building was originally built, only met four times in this building.

I realized today that the reason I just fucking love postmodern architecture (and PoMo style as a whole) is because of
Nickelodeon
Going to a middle school with a distinctly PoMo design*
*Like, it had the foursquare windows and giant columns and glass walls and weird proportions and everything
So that explains that.

This modernist home in Greenwich, Connecticut was designed and owned by the late architect Paul Rudolph who was the chair of Yale University’s Dept. of Architecture for 6 yrs.
He overhauled the property in 1957 & central to his redesign is the ‘floating’ living room that juts into the trees, perching on 25-ft-tall stilts embedded in the hillside below.
Covered entryway and stone steps leading inside.
A fieldstone and wood fireplace takes center stage in the living room.
In classic modernist style, the building’s structural posts and beams are exposed across the interior.
Midcentury fixtures and stylings have been retained.
Large glass walls frame the beautiful gardens outside. He added many built-ins, including this large bar.
This large shelving unit acts as a dividing wall between the living area and the dining room.
Beautiful freestanding fireplace in the dining room.
A large hall with wall to wall closets.
Typical galley style kitchen for a mid century modern home has been redone in pale tones.
The huge main bedroom makes it look like you’re sleeping outdoors.
Even the bath has a view.
Isn’t this a beautiful sunroom in the trees?
There’s a wonderful pool surrounded by trees.
The grounds are stunning. It’s all for sale for $2.295M.

Flowers
Songwriters: Miley Cyrus, Michael Pollack and Gregory Aldae Hein
We were good, we were gold
Kinda dream that can't be sold
We were right 'til we weren't
Built a home and watched it burn
Mmm, I didn't wanna leave you, I didn't wanna lie
Started to cry, but then remembered I
I can buy myself flowers
Write my name in the sand
Talk to myself for hours
Say things you don't understand
I can take myself dancing
And I can hold my own hand
Yeah, I can love me better than you can
Can love me better, I can love me better, baby
Can love me better, I can love me better, baby
Paint my nails cherry red
Match the roses that you left
No remorse, no regret
I forgive every word you said
Ooh, I didn't wanna leave you, baby, I didn't wanna fight
Started to cry, but then remembered I
I can buy myself flowers
Write my name in the sand
Talk to myself for hours, yeah
Say things you don't understand
I can take myself dancing, yeah
I can hold my own hand
Yeah, I can love me better than you can
Can love me better, I can love me better, baby
Can love me better, I can love me better, baby
Can love me better, I can love me better, baby
Can love me better, I (ooh, I)
I didn't wanna leave you, I didn't wanna fight
Started to cry, but then remembered I
I can buy myself flowers (uh-huh)
Write my name in the sand
Talk to myself for hours (yeah)
Say things you don't understand (you never will)
I can take myself dancing, yeah
I can hold my own hand
Yeah, I can love me better than
Yeah, I can love me better than you can
Can love me better, I can love me better, baby (oh, oh)
Can love me better, I can love me better, baby (than you can)
Can love me better, I can love me better, baby
Can love me better, I

at the inconspicuous beginning of niehler straße, lively postmodernism is hidden. here it quotes the surrounding gründerzeit architecture or that which was located here before the war.
