After many doodles I decided to make a full drawing... I actually made this drawing for a carnival themed contest (Descole's design is inspired by the costumes of the carnival of Venice, which is actually pretty close to me since I'm half Italian) so I took the chance to draw the man himself, haha. I had to change some colours and placement of some elements to make it more vibrant/cohesive, but I'm pretty satisfied with the result.

you know (with the intention of sharing something that exists only in my head), i think part of the reason fëanor‘s aggressive rejection of indis and her children was such a big deal is that family itself, culturally and institutionally, is really important within the social framework of aman. i think elves have a much more expansive conception of family than we typically do--in a closed-off, extremely localized population where nobody ever dies, most everybody is going to end up ‘related’ somehow or other, or at least each know the one degree of separation between them. there’s emphasis placed on kinship, no matter how seemingly inconsequential: adult elves can rattle off precise relations for multiple generations of their family and other families in the community and there are lots of extremely specific words for all sorts of complex degrees of connection (sibling-in-law-through-eldest-sister, second-youngest-uncle-on-mother’s-side, etc etc.), each with their own prescribed modes of address and treatment. and it goes all the way back and back and back to cuiviénen, where family was tantamount to survival, and the idea of dilute relation was primarily cultivated to incentivize protecting all members of the community. hence the horror and confusion at fëanor threatening fingolfin....hence the ‘kin’ of kinslaying....hence why fingolfin follows fëanor even unto death....blah blah etc etc
