cogitating upon the cultural impact of fingolfin's death.. the artistic currency of beautified, emblematized violence. mystery plays with an antiphonal chorus and ritualized movements and acrobats playing morgoth by climbing all over each other; kirtana that go on for seven days, one for each of the sacred blows... the stricken foot and the seven wounds becoming symbols in themselves, put on children's' amulets to ward off evil and on warrior's to encourage valour. soldiers wearing eagle feathers into battle so that even if they fall their bodies won't be desecrated. tapestries and vases and friezes that show fingolfin's ride to angband (or the alternatively popular motif of him riding to mandos) with variation in his resemblance to oromë according to the artist's religiosity.. just the fall of fingolfin being so thoroughly embroidered into noldorin culture in beleriand that even when everyone who remembered him is gone the carvings of oromë sometimes have his face

more concept sketches: The Doom of the Noldor as a three-act ballet!

It'd be impossible to adapt the entire Silmarillion into a single ballet, but I think this is the closest you can get to reducing the plot to its bare minimum. more details below!

Act I: (from top to bottom) Feänor and the silmarils, Mandos, Nerdanel, the Kinslaying at Alqualondë

Act II: (from top to bottom, left to right) Fingon and Maedhros, Turgon and Elenwe, Idril and Maeglin, Galadriel

Gosh I just love book Legolas. He's immortal. He's a teenager. Elrond picks him instead of Glorfindel because he's average and won't draw attention to the Fellowship. He's the comic relief guy and resident Little Shit, but he can also shoot a Nazgul out of the sky in the pitch black like a one-man elf anti-aircraft defense system. He wants everyone to know that he's, like, really old. He forgets the task at hand because he wants to look at trees. His greatest qualities are that he can become friends with anyone and his loyalty is unending. He shows up to Valinor a century late with Starbucks in hand and his dwarf bestie at his side. Iconic.
