#project: shawl 11
Text
It's Wednesday my dudes! I have a lot of projects floating around so I wanted to consolidate most of them in one long post. Not included is my Evenstar (because I just posted a photo yesterday), and a couple experimental unfinished pieces I don't know if I will finish.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
˖⁺‧₊˚✦ Doily 14 (Yarn | Pattern)
Chugging along with this guy. I'm on row 83 out of 111 and just about to hit the second colour change. At this point it's mainly stockinette so the rows are going pretty fast for how long they are.
Tumblr media
˖⁺‧₊˚✦ Blanket 12 (Yarn)
Slow prog on this blanket since I only work on it when I'm in bed or on the couch. But since it won't be cold enough to need this until next year I'm quite fine with that. I also think it's probably too wide but I'm not redoing it.
Tumblr media
˖⁺‧₊˚✦ ???Mystery Top??? (Yarn)
Started this on a whim to play with sweater construction and now I do like two rows every couple days. I do want to eventually finish it but it's quite boring. Maybe I'll add some plain stockinette rows in just to make faster.
Tumblr media
˖⁺‧₊˚✦ Shawl 15 (various colourways of Knitpicks Hawthorn)
This shawl is Haunting me. It's so pretty but extremely boring to knit and extremely slow going. Plus it's taking up two sets of needles. But it's so prettttyyyy. Eventually I'll come up with a plan to finish it but until then it lives in shame.
Tumblr media
˖⁺‧₊˚✦ Shawl 11 (Yarn 1 | Yarn 2 | Pattern)
The first of my two "doctor's appointment" projects. I haven't really been knitting too much in the waiting room because of how bad my back is so he's barely different looking. I've been tempted recently to frog this and restart with either a different pattern or just better brioche skills but I haven't been willing to pull the trigger on it yet.
Tumblr media
˖⁺‧₊˚✦ Socks (Knitpicks Wool of the Andes Superwash in Marina and Cobblestone Heather)
The second "doctor's appointment" project. I had enough of this yarn for three pairs of socks but haven't hard the urge to knit any until now. Nice and simple toe up vanilla socks in worsted weight is very relaxing.
Tumblr media
˖⁺‧₊˚✦ Blanket 11 (Yarn 1 | Yarn 2 | Pattern)
Not really that much prog on this, just been super into lace knitting rn. I think this'll be fun to work on outside when the weather is nice which will be Soon.

I finally published the project for my dice roll scarf that went viral last month. If you love dice games, you'll enjoy knitting this pattern.
Tumblr media
The color work in this project is determined by an algorithm, a set of rules that determine the final outcome. There isn't an exact set of instructions for this project. Instead, the knitter uses four 10-sided dice or a random number generator to pick the length of the colorwork in each row.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The result is a staggered stripe sequence along the edge of the shawl. There are trillions of unique outcomes, so no two projects turn out exactly alike. The pattern uses about 500 yards of yarn in total, but the amount of each color that you'll need is randomly determined. Before publishing, I wanted to find out the minimum and maximum amount of each color required to make the project and the probability of each outcome.
Tumblr media
The knowledge needed to calculate the yardage was a bit beyond my skill level, but my friend Mary W. Martin helped me gather this info. I used an online probability calculator to find out the probability of each unique stitch count. The results are slightly different depending on whether you use four 10-sided dice (blue) or pick a random number (yellow), but 99% of all possible results fall within a very small range.
Tumblr media
It was an interesting little tangent, but not hugely important to the actual knitting pattern. I can, however, confidently say there is a >99.9% chance that you'll need a 2nd skein of the main color. If you want to know more about the math, you should check out my project notes on Ravelry.
The thick and thin striped colorwork is created with a super simple "long stitch" technique. The pattern looks great in fluffy mohair or contrasting colors of basic wool and the instructions include some basic tips for substituting yarns or changing the gauge.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Finished Size: 18 x 68” (46 x 172 cm) rectangular wrap.
Yarn: Approx. 315 yards (288 m) of MC and approx. 264 yards (241 m) of CC. Yardage may vary, see notes on yardage below and yardage chart in photos.
• Main Color (2 skeins) - JMR Studio Worsted Weight Mohair, 245 yards (225 m) per 4 oz; 78% Mohair, 13% Wool, 9% Nylon.
• Contrast Color (1 skein each, both yarns held together) - JMR Studio Fingering Weight Mohair, 320 yards (293 m) per 100g; 63% Silk, 23% Kid Mohair, 11% Nylon, 3% Polyester Held with Lavender Lune Yarn Co. Suri Alpaca, 328 yards (300 m) per 50g; 74% Suri Alpaca, 26% Silk.
Yardage: The amount of each color used for this pattern fluctuates based on the random numbers used to determine the stitch pattern. MC uses approx. 233 to 315 yards (213 to 288m) and CC uses approx. 182 to 264 yards (166 to 241m). 99% of possible results fall within a much smaller range. The Yardage Chart shows the distribution of all potential yardage outcomes.
Needles: Size 8 (5 mm) straight needles, or size needed to obtain gauge. NOTE: Straight needles work best with long stitches. Circular needles with a thin cord allow the long stitches to tighten and stretch, making them harder to manipulate.
Gauge: 12 sts x 14 rows = 4 x 4” (10 x 10 cm) square in pattern.
Other Materials: 10 sided die or random number generator, stitch marker, scale, tapestry needle.
Generating numbers: In my sample, I used four ten-sided dice (D10) to choose a number between 4 and 40 sts. If you don't have dice, you can use an online app like RANDOM.org to generate your numbers. If you follow this link, you'll get a list of 63 integers between 4 and 40. NOTE: Each time you visit the link or refresh the page, the list changes. You can also just choose numbers as you knit.
Pattern is available on my website and on Ravelry.

Project 11/? for 2023.
The Phoenix Protocol Shawl, or as my one fireteam member dubbed it, the Phoenix Proto-Shawl lol.
My beloved raiding fireteam in Destiny 2 completed our first week one raid with Root of Nightmares earlier this year, and we all got team jackets for it; when I saw this yarn that looks exactly like the shader my Guardian usually sports when donning the Phoenix Protocol, I knew I had to make a thematically appropriate accessory to go with it 💗✨
Pattern is the Pincha Shawl by Panpilan Wangsai.

A little writing project of mine that I have on A03 that I'm going to throw here to. Rated: E F/M Papa Emeritus II x F!Reader Cardinal Copia x F!Reader Chapter 11: It comes to this Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4 Part 5 Part 6 Part 7 Part 8 Part 9 Part 10
You stood in front of your mirror holding up different outfits. "What does one wear on a business date?" You asked turning to look at the rats playing around in their cage, marmalade currently resting in the corner of her own set up heavily pregnant, you loved that cute little blond rat her color pattern made it look like she was wearing a yellow shawl. "What do you guys think?." You held up the outfits as if the pets would answer you.
"I like the black dress." Spinning you were face to face with Copia who was leaning against the doorway you let out a breath. "Copia you scared the fuck out of me." A hand was on your chest before you realized that you were only in your undergarments blushing you held the dress up to cover yourself. "Why? it is not like I have not seen your beauty before." his words made your face grow a little warmer as you took the black dress and slid it on over your head, fluffing out your hair in the mirror you could see how red and puffy Copias eyes were your face twisted into one of concern.
"Copia your eyes- have you been crying?." You walked over to him your hand cupping his cheek you could feel him start to lean into your touch but pull away. "Do not go." He spoke sternly "What?." "I said do not go, stay here, with me instead." Copia took your hands into his gloved ones. "Cara Mia please stay with me." "Copia I ca-." "I can give you anything and everything you want cara, love me the way I love you the night we spent together you looked so happy you always look happy when you are with me and-and-and the confessional I can make all of it come true, and more we can be more, just--- stay." Copias confession had you staring at him… confessional?..oh…OH! Oh fuck now you remembered everything you said suddenly you were feeling guilty he thought you…. oh this poor man, this poor big hopeful-eyed man. "Copia-." "Please, if I have to get onto my knees say it sorella and I shall do it." "No, no Copia don't-." You paused staring at him.
"You… love me?." You watched as Copias face went beat red right up to the tips of his ears realizing through his stammering and pleas for you to stay that he had admitted his feelings. "I-I-I-." His pushy demeanor fell flat, his eyes looking down at your hands held within his, circles rubbed around your knuckles. "S-Si I do, I have f-for a while." Ah, there was that stuttering wonderful fool you knew. "Look, I've already promised Secondo this afterward I'll come right back here okay?." "..Promise?." The word was muttered and the tone almost broke your heart there was a fleeting thought of texting Secondo and saying something came up, no you wouldn't do that to him. "Just one thing- can I have just one kiss before you go?." You chuckled nodding to Copia who perked up a small smile coming to his face. "Grazie." Leaning in he let his lips brush against yours, it was only supposed to be a short sweet kiss but as soon as you kissed back your hands were all over each other. His finding their way up your dress to your breast in minutes flat teasing each nipple with the pad of his thumbs you both swallowed each other's moans, damn Emeritus's, and their tasty lips. Copia's lips kissed their way down your throat. "Okay- I need to finish getting ready for the meeting." Appreciating that you called it a meeting instead of a 'date' Copia listened reluctantly pulling away from you his breathing heavy, kissing his cheek you finish getting ready applying your makeup, and fixing your hair the last bit was a spritz of perfume after looking at yourself to make sure you looked okay-ish, you stepped out you baby talked to the three little rats Bisscoti, Rigatoni, and Marmalade.
"You look like you're about ready to pop sweetie." Grabbing a sunflower seed you gave each of the ones watching them scurry to eat it, hearing the little chitters upon standing you turned to see Copia staring at you. "What?." "Ah.. eh… n-nothing you just- you just look beautiful sorella." You felt your cheeks redden. "Thank you, Copia, I'll be back alright." He stopped you for one more kiss on the cheek heading out to the front of the ministry your heels clicking against the cement steps. The chauffeur Ghoul drove the car around, looking back at the large building you swore you had seen a shadow move away from one of the windows the move making you chuckle as you slipped into the back seat. Settling in you sighed, damn it, you were in a dilemma now between Secondo and Copia, you never thought you'd see yourself in this kind of situation that was for sure. The ghoul's eyes looked at your reflection in the mirror seeing how troubled you looked. "Everything alright doll?." He asked shaking you from your thoughts. "Yeah, Axel everything is-… no everything isn't fine I have a lot on my mind." You thought for a moment perhaps you could get some outside help.
"Axel?." "Hm?." "I have this friend right, another sister of sin and she likes two people very much how do you know when it's love and not just lust?." Axel thought for a few minutes stopping at a red light. "Hmm, I think you should talk to Divine about that one." He looked at your reflection again before adding.
"Tell your friend to ask each person what they love about her and see which one loves what's on the inside instead of just the package." You stared at the ghoul for a moment. "You know Axel.. that is pretty good advice." Maybe you would try that and see how they felt, see who wanted you for you and not just your body, once the car stopped in front of the restaurant you leaned forward between the seats and pressed a kiss to the cheek of the ghoul's mask the hell beast giving you an affectionate purr in return, stepping out you straightened your dress and patted at your hair. Walking into the place right off the bat you could tell it was very fancy, a live band playing soothing music and everyone dressed high-class it made you feel a little underdressed.
"Sorella." You heard his voice making you turn around and greeted by his paintless face, dressed in what looked like a satin black suit his usual leather gloves on. "Secondo." You greeted him as he took his sunglasses off, hooking them into his suit pocket. "Bella, I am so glad you came." He took your hand placing a kiss on the back of it. "Do you have a reservation?." The desk woman asked as she returned. "Si, it is under Emeritus." The woman looked through her list. "Oh yes, this way please." Secondo linked your arms together as you walked to the back of the restaurant, opening the sliding doors to the balcony where several tables sat, Twinkle lights blinked like stars circled the roof a smile rested on your lips as you took in the sight. "It's so beautiful and that view." You unlooped your arm from Secondos to speed walk to the edge overlooking the city down below so many lights and colors. "I always come here," Secondo spoke standing beside you. "I figured you would like it." You both were seated at the table the menus given to you, Secondo ordered a bottle of wine for the table, it was all… so romantic you had no idea that the man across from you could put something like this together.
He poured your glass and then his own. "Now onto business, the file system you had set up worked phenomenally, the sister they saddled me with can't compare and I was wondering if you had written any of your tips or tricks down to get things moving easier again." You blinked staring at him. "They gave you a new assistant?." You felt your mouth go dry. "Temporary assistant." Secondo corrected You forced a smile but you couldn't help the thought that rose in the back of your mind… were they co-workers with benefits too?.. "Which sister if I may ask?." "Sister Leiah." Sister Leiah?! He had to be fucking her she was beautiful in the face and body to boot when you were new to the Ministry you even caught yourself looking at her for too long sometimes, that and she had quite the reputation. The evening went on talking about random things mostly about work, Latin translations, and that you'd have a step-by-step guide on his desk soon so things would run smoothly. You wore a smile yet inside your heart was breaking all you could think about was fucking Leiah in Secondos arms, on his desk where you had been on so many occasions for three years you gave yourself to him willingly. He had even told you he loved you in that moment you wished you had canceled and stayed home with Copia but you were a woman of your word and you would treat this as a business meeting.
"So does Leiah have any organizational abilities at all?." "Sister Imperator said she had them however I have yet to see them." Your mind kept slipping back to Primo's kitchen the slow dancing the goofiness, was it a dream or was it a reality? you couldn't tell anymore. Even for Secondo's emotionally stunted ass, he could tell something wasn't right with you. "Tesoro, what is wrong? you've been so quiet toni-." "Are you messing with her?." "Scusa?." "Are you messing with her?." He didn't answer right away. "I wouldn't call a few massages 'messing', why?" "Okay, I think we are done here." You spoke tapping your mouth clean. "Cara no wait-." "No." No was one thing he hated being told and you knew it, he hated it even more when you disobeyed and weren't his 'good girl' as he had called you multiple times in the past he was so confused what's even worse is that you didn't even hear him out, you knew how Secondo could be once he had several drinks in his system, the thoughts just kept on hounding your mind and chipping away at your heart as you got up and stormed off, you could hear him call after you, he couldn't follow the restaurant not letting him leave until he had paid the bill luckily you were a fast walker even in heels. Lucifer you felt so stupid! How could you have fallen for him even after knowing how many siblings desired him and how many threw themselves at him it made you wonder if he was fucking anyone else on the side when you were his assistant.
You were walking blindly into the night and before you knew it you were at least a mile from where the ghoul had dropped you off. Sighing in frustration as you pulled out your phone seeing many calls and unread text messages from Secondo, still pissed you ignored them and tapped on your screen.
Hey Copia… are you still awake?.. Si, Sorella are you alright?
No :') He didn't hurt you, did he? What did he do?! I will hunt him down.
Easy Copia easy! though it's nice to know you would go after Secondo's ass for me x'D I would go after anyone's ass who hurts you.
That's so sweet, uh I hate to ask since it's so late but… could you give me a ride home? I kind of stormed off like a dumbass UnU Of course Sorella, anything for you just give me the location and I'll be there.
You looked around seeing that it was one of the many parks in the area, texting the address to him you walked over to the playground kicking your shoes off before stepping into the sand and heading over to the swings. You took a seat hand wiping your eye. "I'm so fucking stupid." you scolded yourself as you gently swayed to and fro. Back at the Ministry Copia was rushing around looking for his keys muttering ways he was going to kick Secondo's ass for hurting you, finding them he rushed out down to the door. "Cardi what in the seven hells are you doing?." Imperator asked. Telling her that you needed him to come and get you put a smile on the greying blond's face, it seems things were moving along quicker than she expected. "Well, you look all too happy." Belial's voice came as he phased through the wall his hands behind his back. "Of course, soon we'll have our new leader and his Prime Mover, a packaged deal to ensure the future, Secondo is doing half the work for me." Imperator chuckled. "Emotionally stunted fool." Belial rolled his eyes. "You sound like a two-bit Disney villain." "Shut up!." Imperator hissed at the Infernal Prince as he phased back into the wall.
You looked down at your phone watching the time go by looking up whenever a car drove by hoping that it was Copia, when one did finally stop you were relieved to see that old Buick and even more so to see the driver that got out of it, whatever loud song he had been listening to was turned off as he made his way over. The Cardinal, well he wasn't dressed in his cassock sat in the swing next to you. "You okay?." You gave a slow nod to him watching as he held out a gloved hand a small smile came to your face as you accepted the handhold both gently swinging slowly hand in hand. "Sorella?, may I ask what happened?." "Just…." You let out a breath, Copia deserved some kind of answer given that he had come out here at ass o' clock at night. "Apparently.. they gave Secondo a new assistant, Sister Leiah and we all know her reputation." You couldn't help but sound a bit snobby, the tone made Copia snort. "Is that why you were so upset cara?" "No, I asked him if he was messing with her, you know 'messing'. " "I know, I know, I know." "Well, he paused and then said." You did your best mock Secondo impression. "I wouldn't call a few massages 'messing' ." You sighed your toes kicking at the sand burying your big toes and enjoying the coldness of the earth. "We all know what that leads to, especially with someone like Sister Leiah, she's so pretty but a total snobby bitch." "You think she's pretty?." Copia asked his brow arching. "Yeah, don't you?, Everyone does hell even Primo probably." that got a chuckle from the Cardinal. "I doubt that Primo has eyes for anyone aside from Gemma and please you are a million times better looking than Leiah." You could feel the warmth come to your face along with a smile even if he was just saying it to be nice it felt good. "Go home and watch a movie?." He asked thumb rubbing circles onto your knuckle. "It's a date." You giggled both gently swinging slowly still hand in hand. "You're my best friend Copia."
'Friend' a part of his heart chipped again hearing the word he could already hear Dew 'Man you got friend zoned!!!!' as much as he wanted to argue the fact and ask you about being more than friends Copia stayed silent he could tell you were hurting and didn't want to hurt you further or anger you. Finally, the two of you got up from the swings heading to Copias car his arm around your shoulders as soon as you picked up your heels a car pulled up behind Copia's Secondo getting out of the back seat. "Sorella! there you are I was worried why did- what is he doing here?." Copia tried to appear brave but Secondo's cold stare sent a shiver down his spine. "I asked him to pick me up." "Why?." "You know why." Secondo looked utterly confused, did he not know? did you make a fool of yourself again? you looked at Copia as if he had the answer to your unasked question. "Is this about Leiah?." Secondo asked his arms crossing. "Yes." You answered faster than you wanted to. "How cute tesoro you are jealous." Secondo chuckled. "That is cute but nothing is going on between me and Sister Leiah." He insisted, true it was just a massage you'd given him massages before while he worked, but then that was you, not the ministries bicycle, and really… were you any better? you've fucked Copia though in your defense that was before Secondo told you he loved you.
You looked between the two men.. a choice needed to be made that night so you shut your brain off and listened to your heart for once…

The Designation Games (Part 4)
Tumblr media
. . . . The ride down to the floor that housed the training room was quiet and steeped with tension. The elevator was filled with two distinct scents. The bland, uninteresting scent of their beta escort and the strange new scent of their combined pheromones.
It settled around her like a shawl on a chilly autumn day, warm and soft. A unique mixture of the two of them. Thankfully the suppressants had kicked in for both of them because if the scent had been any stronger it would have been problematic.
She knew Peeta was looking at her from the corner of his eye.
Beneath the effects of the suppressant that muted their scents and their animal instincts, she felt her Omega plaintively sniffing, scratching, and searching for his Alpha.
It was a dangerous preoccupation to deal with in addition to all the other things she needed to stay on top of.
So, she kept her expression blank and focused on Effie's inane ramblings about proper etiquette for the training floor.
She was supremely grateful for the speed with which the elevator delivered them to their destination.
A minute longer and she might have been persuaded to speak to him.
. . Effie deposited them at the doors, with a quick and patronizing pat to each of their backs and then she was gone.
"Well, I guess we should head in," Peeta said when he noticed her hesitancy.
Katniss sucked in a deep breath and gave him a quick, short nod.
He pushed open the doors and they walked in side by side.
It was the scent that hit her first.
She felt like she had just walked into a maelstrom, but instead of being buffeted on all sides by wind and rain, she was assaulted by the forceful surge of Alpha musk hitting her nostrils and the permeating sweetness of coying Omega perfume lingering on her tongue.
She could detect fear, aggression, and arousal from just stepping inside the room.
The combination was dizzying and the only thing that anchored her in the moment was the quiet reassurance of the person walking beside her.
His scent was familiar and unobtrusive in its subtleness, but strong enough to shield her from the sharp onslaught of distracting smells.
It seemed to grow stronger the closer they got to the center of the large room where the rest of the tributes were gathered in a semi-circle, waiting. It was here that everyone's scent was most concentrated, and Katniss surmised that her and Peeta's glands were working overtime to push out deterrent pheromones.
And from the way that all but a few of the tributes surveyed them quickly, but then turned away after pulling in discreet and not-so-discreet inhales of their scents, she thought that their scenting strategy might be working.
All the tributes were wearing some variation of the jumpsuit she and Peeta had on, the only difference being their district numbers. The group was made up of a variety. People of different heights builds, and appearances. Some immediately stood out, like the giant male from District 2 who was projecting a bored but superior air, or the dark-skinned boy from 11 who stood near the back and projected the aura of some kind of large cat stealthily watching its prey. Then there were the Omegas. Most of them seemed to cower behind their district partner Alphas, trying to make themselves invisible, but a few of them stood apart. The most obvious being the smirking blond-haired and green-eyed female from District 1. She was practically licking her chops as she surveyed the gathering of Alphas. Then there was the short brunette from District 2 with a wicked gleam in her eye. She didn't look at the Alphas hungrily like they were something she wanted to eat. But she did look like she might enjoy cutting them up into bite-sized pieces.
There was also the red-headed girl from District 5 who gave off an air of independence from her district partner. She seemed to take in each tribute methodically, observing them like they were something to study under a microscope.
Beyond the half ring of tributes, a tall, athletic woman dressed in a long sleeve black collared shirt with the official crest of Panem stitched over her heart stood at the focal point of the room.
"In two weeks 23 of you will be dead. One of you will be alive. Who that is depends on how well you pay attention over the next five days. Particularly to what I'm about to say. First, no fighting with the other tributes. You'll have plenty of time for that in the arena. Second, coercive scenting is forbidden during training. If any tribute is caught scenting another without their permission, there will be severe penalties. Aside from those rules, there are only four compulsory exercises. The rest will be individual training. My advice is don't ignore the survival skills. Everyone wants to grab a sword but most of you will die from natural causes. 10% from infection, 25% from dehydration. Exposure can kill as easily as a knife....."
. . .
Haymitch had been right about all the Alpha posturing. As soon as the head trainer concluded her speech, most Alphas headed for the weapon racks or the heavy training equipment.
About half of the Omegas followed their partners like meek shadows. The other half indulged in some posturing of their own before flouncing off to circle some of the more dominant-looking Alphas.
Katniss noticed several lurkers of both designations orbiting her and Peeta as they quietly discussed which station to visit.
"Where would you like to start?" Peeta asked, expression sober and vigilant.
She looked around at the Career Tributes who caught her eye earlier. They were engaged in an overt display of one-up-manship. One was swinging a sword, enthusiastically lobbing off appendages from the training dummies with quick and brutal strokes, another was throwing a spear dead center in the outline of human silhouettes on posters taped to the training center wall. And so it went, with each of the Careers seemingly determined to start the day off with an obvious show of intimidation.
The rest of the tributes busied themselves with their first lessons in axe or knife throwing.
"Suppose we tie some knots." She replies, eyes flicking up to his for half a second.
"Right, you are," Peeta agrees, holding her gaze for a moment before turning to find the proper station and trainer.
. . . . As the first hour passed, Katniss was able to determine that all of the trainers were betas. They smelled neutral in comparison to the strong scents of the tributes.
It was an intelligent choice, she thought. 24 unmated Alphas and Omegas in one (albeit large) room was probably a heady enough cocktail of hormones and pheromones as it was without adding to the mix.
Even though she had the security of Peeta's scent blanketing her, and the added assistance of the suppressant working to calm her, Katniss still felt on edge. A niggling feeling pricked at the back of her neck and it was getting harder and harder to ignore, no matter how diligently she tried to concentrate on tying knots.
Instinctually she turned her head to peer over her shoulder. Her eyes immediately met the glacial supercilious stare of the colossal Alpha from District 1, named Cato. He was fair-skinned, fair-haired, and blue-eyed, like Peeta, but that was where their similarities ended. He was by far the largest Alpha in the room. While many of the other male tributes were well over 6 feet tall, the giant brute was closer to 7 feet tall, if Katniss were to guess. His height and intimidating physicality were only rivaled by the male from District 11, Thresh. Thresh for his part kept to himself and his District partner, unobtrusively perusing the stations with mild interest. Cato, however, sauntered around the training room with undisguised and seemingly unchallenged dominance.  He didn't appear to be able to exhibit a shred of anything but pure animosity, even with the trainers. His District partner, the short brunette with the malevolent smile roamed as a free agent, her demonstration with the throwing knives having secured her status as an Omega to be wary of. That and her scent hadn't been twinged with even one iota of fear or anxiety as any of the other female tributes had.
Katniss turned her head away abruptly, to cut off the staring match when she felt her own scent shift toward discomfort.
Katniss knew Peeta felt that something was amiss because he stiffened beside her. He looked over in the direction she had been looking in and Katniss knew Peeta had found Cato still staring at them because Peeta let out a low growl under his breath.
Without thinking, she placed her hand over his well-muscled forearm.
"Remember what Haymitch said." She reminded in a quiet voice.
Peeta's jaw locked with tension for a moment, but then he deliberately turned his head away from Cato's challenging stare.
Katniss breathed a sigh of relief, but she was surprised when Peeta's strong hands lightly maneuvered her to the side, out of Cato's line of sight.
She frowned at Peeta in annoyance and moved out of his grasp pointedly. She couldn't tolerate that kind of Alpha nonsense. She might be an Omega, but she wasn't a child to be coddled and pushed out of harm's way.
"Haymitch said we shouldn't turn our backs on them," Peeta explained before she could open her mouth to tell him off.
She looked back to the spot Cato had just vacated, walking off in search of easier prey perhaps, and then back to Peeta.
His expression was sheepish, but not wholly repentant.
She narrowed her eyes at him.
"Next time just tell me, and I'll move." She replied tightly.
Peeta nodded and then turned around to scan the room again, ever vigilant. . . . .

First socks
project dates: 2024/01/30-02/11
Yarn used: Malabrigo Sock 859 (Primavera) Because the yarn line has the word "sock" in it, I assumed it would be a safe choice for this project. However, some crafters have recommended it more for shawls/scarves--pretty much any other fingering weight project. It's also 100% SW wool, compared to the often-recommended 75/25 SW wool/nylon blend, so I'll have to see how this wears over time.
Pattern: Rye Light from Tin Can Knits (free!)
This was my first time knitting (or doing any fiber craft project, really) using fingering weight yarn. Everything was so thin; I felt like I was trying to knit floss with toothpicks! Eventually, I got used to handling both the yarn and the DPNs in a way that minimized laddering (a little visible, but I feel like blocking took care of most of it).
Overall, this project took a deceptively long time to knit! I now understand why knitters often recommend learning sock construction with worsted weight yarn. Thankfully, I never got bored since I could autopilot large sections of the sock while doing something else.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
During this project, I learned how to wrap and turn short rows to create the heel. Next time, I'd like to try German short rows--I wasn't too satisfied with the small gaps, though blocking seemed to take care of it. I also learned to graft/Kitchener stitch the toe of a cuff-down sock. I improved my frogging / picking up dropped stitch skills as well. Even though there's some small errors with skipped stitches, I was able to catch most of them during the knitting process.
Tumblr media
Bonus tube sock (pattern) for the cat. I would make a full set if he'd be willing to wear them, but he immediately kicked it off as soon as we managed to wrestle it on.

I finished my last travel project, my hiking hat. Sadly, I finished it yesterday, after my hiking trip. I leave for another work trip on Monday (this is the last one scheduled), so time to start something else. I'm thinking another shawl. I need to find someone to pawn these extra shawls off on, but I think that's easier than socks or sweaters.
The options are:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Pink gradient Mossy Reading Shawl. Basically, use up this silly pink gradient I spun up a couple of years ago. There's about two ounces of 11 skeins in fingering/sport. Plan would be to knit the Reading Shawl but use double moss stitch and an icord edging. Pro: Pink isn't my color and I will happily pass it along. Con: Lots of knitting.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
2. Sparkly Ramble. I had small amounts of fibers in Christmas color scheme (White/Silver, Green and Red). A pot of blue dye later and I had colors I like better. Each yarn is one ply merino silk, one ply merino/alpaca (overdyed), and one ply merino/stellina (overdyed). I'm thinking of the Ramble shawl. The blue and green skeins are less than 300 yards, so I'm thinking either making a smaller shawl or alternating the purple in the garter stripes. Pro: use up stash. Con: large balls and choices.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
3. Purple Precipice. I said I was going to make a brioche shawl with this yarn, but I love all three together. I think they'd be interesting in a Precipice, but I could save the pattern for two solids and a fractal yarn. Pros: garter. Cons: garter.

2023 crochet round up!
i mentioned making a post like this a few days ago, and true to my nature, i waited until the last minute to get pictures
so here we are, in no particular order, various projects i finished in 2023
Tumblr media
1.) this was technically crocheted last year (i think) but this year i finally assembled and lined it, making it finished! its not quite the size to be a purse, but its perfect for carrying my phone and keys while dog walking
i followed this pattern, and im really happy with the results!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
2.) some little zipper bags. like the bag above, the purple one was crocheted last year, but i finally added the lining and zipper this year (i also used the same pattern as the above bag to make the purple one)
the grey one doesnt have a lining and zipper yet, but since the crochet is finished, it still makes the list
Tumblr media Tumblr media
3.) little squares from this pattern, to have something to clip my stitch markers to, very helpful for travel
4.) a few of the chokers i made during the summer, there are a bunch more, but you get the idea, a couple were made based on this pattern
Tumblr media Tumblr media
4.) this one was hard to get a good shot of, but it's a cat blanket i made for my sister's cats
the pattern was a free one i got from michael's in store, which doesnt seem to be on their site? however its a pretty simple pattern, im pretty sure you could find something nearly identical by searching "star baby blanket" or something like that
Tumblr media Tumblr media
5.) for ages now i've been meaning to make something to keep my tablet pens in, because having them loose in my bag is begging for disaster
i actually had to make this little case twice, the first one was too long and the proportions looked weird, so it isnt pictured here
i hand finished all the seams for the lining, there was no practical need to do this
Tumblr media Tumblr media
6.) pouch to carry headphones i got for my birthday
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
7.) pouch to carry Cool Rocks
the bottom of the bag comes from these doily patterns, and the ends of the ties are from this pattern
Tumblr media Tumblr media
8.) a mini dice bag, made to hold a couple sets of mini dice my sister made for me!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
9.) several cord ties made from this pattern, the flower was my own addition (only two ties are pictured because i didnt feel like tracking down the third)
10.) a flower vine to decorate my desk, no actually on my desk because i still need to sort out how i want to attach it
Tumblr media Tumblr media
11.) speaking of flowers, ive probably made dozens of these little guys, they're very quick to make, and a good way to give my hands something to do while watching something
12.) little succulents from this pattern
Tumblr media Tumblr media
13.) oops! another pouch to hold even more Cool Rocks
Tumblr media
14.) while technically i still need to to line these bags, i still wanted to include them, i made them from this pattern, and im very excited for when theyre actually finished so i can use them
next we're getting into some shawls i made, and unfortunately i just dont have a good set up for getting pics of them
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
15.) this one was made by doing a little variation from this pattern
16.) this was made from the all shawl pattern by doris chan, its a really great pattern for beginner's, the first shawl i made was from that pattern!
17.) this was made from a variation on the same pattern i used for the cat blanket, i made a couple others from the same sort of pattern late last year, but i decided i needed one in black in october, because it looks just a bit like bat wings
Tumblr media Tumblr media
18.) i made a cowl from this pattern, and i really love the texture of it! i also made one for my mom in a different color, which is not pictured here because i took these picture last minute
other things not pictured include: a dice bag for my sister, flowers for my mom, and a sack for the cats to curl up in (since they love making nests out of my projects)

I finished a pair of socks for myself!
Tumblr media
They do look a bit different with inside light
Tumblr media Tumblr media
These were made using the basic toe-up sock pattern by Kate Atherley in her book Custom Socks.
I started with 103g and ended up with a tiny ball left (2.96g). It took my three weeks and a day to make them (10/14-11/5) and I finished my large lace shawl during that time too.
This was yarn I spun during tour de fleece this year (July 2023).
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Even though these socks are more fraternal twins than I was hoping for I’m ok with it because I didn’t spin for that outcome. They fit well and are happy fall colors - I look forward to wearing them soon!
I’ve also already started another project or two…

I don't believe it myself, but
I ended the night with 11 full rows of ribbing. Yes with 326 stitches, 4x4 ribbing
I think it's the texture of this yarn. It very much reminds me of another yarn and project, the Advent Shawl 2022 where I got distracted on day 11 or 12 of it...
The best way I can describe this feeling is.. it feels cottony. Even though the fiber composition is 75% wool, 25% nylon or polyamide, I forgor
But also this specific yarn I'm using now SMELLS wooly. Which I love, too
And the colour is fun
So it's a triple hit for my senses
Also I guess using the trick of "bunch 80 cm onto 25 cm needles" helps me not think about how many stitches there are, lmfao
But no, the next Sock Yarn Sweaters will all have an extra thread, and I'll even experiment with the threads I'll add. Like 1 strand of mohair in body, 2 in sleeves. Or an extra white/black strand of sock yarn in body, sock+mohair in sleeves. Add only 1 extra strand everywhere, but knit the body and Tunisian crochet the sleeves... So many fun options!!!

Shawl 11 | Yarn 1 | Yarn 2 | Pattern
I kinda forgot this project existed for a bit. But it's a lot easier on my injury than my other, larger projects so I'm happy to have found it again.
This is more of a Process Knit than a Product Knit so I wasn't really fussed about how I couldn't figure out a good way to make clean edges on brioche. However I kinda stumbled into a much better way than what I was doing before (which was like, slipping the first stitch purlwise and then immediately jumping into brioching even when it meant knitting/purling into the same stitch under it).
Instead! I'm always slipping the first stitch purlwise. Then the next two stitches are treated like kinda like double knitting (if it's a colour A dominate row, I'd slip the first stitch [colour A] purlwise, bring my yarn to the front and slip the second stitch [colour B] with yarn in front, then bring the yarn to the back and knit the third stitch before bringing it forward again to s1yo. For colour B on that row I would slip the first stitch [A] purlwise, slip the second stitch [B] purlwise like another selvedge stitch, keep the yarn behind and slip the third stitch [A] before bringing the yarn to the front to being briocheing with brp1). Probably not the most efficient way but I could NOT get my tension to work for those first couple stitches, this instantly looks better (the red marks on the second and third images point to about where I started doing this method instead of winging it).

11, 13, 15!
HI LEW !!!! waves at you frantically
11. What was the last color you used in your current WIP/most recent project?
my most recent WIP is pretty much a 5+1 about sanji, hunger, and the colour red, so red !!!!
13. Ctrl+f: silver/gold/bronze–did anything come up in your WIP and if so, share it?
gasp... not in my latest one... there's this other WIP i was revisiting about zoro being prone to seasickness when the crew first started (i.e. romance dawn era) ... i wrote him soooo pathetic
"Zoro managed to stumble out to the base of the crow’s nest without braining himself on anything when the ship lurched again, which was probably the highlight of his night so far. Making it up the rigging by the gold of the galley light and the silver of the moon, Zoro pulled himself onto the wooden platform, blanket wound atop his shoulder like a shawl."
15. What is your favorite detail to include while writing?
personifying inanimate objects my beloved............ i like treating the setting as another character :] one of the first compliments i ever got for my writing was about personification and the value of it has stuck with me ever since

Rainbow Shawl 🌈
[id: 4 images of a rainbow shawl hanging from a clothesline against a backdrop of trees. The first 2 are full views of the shawl, and the final 2 are closeups to show the detail in stitching and the beaded border. end id]
This project was fun to work on! There's a different stitch pattern for every color, and beads sewn on every point on the border. I love the way the beads catch the light ☀️
This shawl took me about 2 weeks to knit. I actually made this a couple summers ago, but I forget to post it because it's too hot to wear in summer!
More details under the cut:
Yarn is Lion Brand Manala in Thunderbird, and Lion Brand Truboo Sparkle in Night Sky.
3.5 mm needles
Most of the stitch patterns were from Melissa Leapman's book The Knit Stitch Pattern Handbook, and one was from Hitomi Shida's book Japanese Knitting Stitch Bible.
Dark red: Tilted Tiles for 34 rows Orange-red: Faceted Diamonds for 30 rows Red-orange: Cobbled Stripes for 4 rows Orange: Thistles for 16 rows Orange-yellow: my own pattern for 8 rows Yellow: Textured Eyelets for 38 rows Green: modified Faux Crochet for 6 rows Blue: Old Danube Lace for 11 rows Night Sky Sparkle: using different yarn for the edging, because I wanted something more purple. Pattern #248 from Hitomi Shida's book
Beads were added to border after casting off, and are glass, I think.
If I were to make this again, I would add some supplemental yarn to make the blue, green, and purple sections larger, but I'm still satisfied with how this turned out!

The first thing a beginner should knit: Few of the simplest projects for first-time knitters include baby blankets, scarves, and dishcloths. All these patterns can be knitted up very quickly and require only one or two stitches.
Few things to look for the perfect project
Simple stitch pattern: Most of the patterns will tell you right in the introduction what stitches or skills you will have to know. When you get started, search for patterns like stockinette stitch, garter stitch, or rib stitch.
Increase, decrease, and easy shaping: When you are ready to start for something slightly more advanced as compared to a scarf, seek out projects that make use of skills of increasing, decreasing, and easy shaping. Hats and shawls are the best knitting projects for beginners that commonly use all techniques.
Yarn weight: Few yarn weights are simpler to knit than others. DK and worsted tend to be the easiest to handle. Once you get some projects under your belt, you can start testing with lighter and heavier weights.
Easy colorwork: Colorwork in knitting patterns is the technique of using various types of colors in your project. It might sound arduous, but it can be quite simple. Strips are the easiest type of colorwork for learners. A more complicated pattern will offer you a chart of color.
Clear instructions: Before getting started, read all the instructions. Make sure you have understood the techniques before jumping into your knitting project. This will save you from frustration as you knit. Most instructions for knitting patterns include videos and pictures so you can anticipate what you need to do.
The Best Yarn and Needles for Beginning Knitters
Yarn: worsted-weight yarn and DK are the simplest yarns for beginners. You can see your stitches with both yarns, and they won’t get tangled like other lighter-weight yarns. Each of the free patterns which are mentioned in this post includes suggested yarn weights. Be prepared to see worsted-weight and DK suggestions!
Needle: medium to large-sized knitting needles are perfect for beginners. They are simple to work with and also grip as you practice your stitches. The perfect size of the needle is 8-11 U.S.
As you knit unique projects, you will need to have a collection of double-pointed, straight, and circular needles. You can buy starter packs or a collection of needles to ensure that you have a wide variety of types and sizes of needles.

The knitting pattern even includes eight pictures of ideas for your color choices.
World’s simplest mittens
This pattern provides five different sizes of mittens. To make this, you will work in a round and knit from the cuff to the hand. After that, finish with the thumb. This is a basic knitting pattern, but it might not be acceptable for those who are brand new to knitting.
Garter stitch baby cardigan
This sweater is so sweet and cute! For this stitching pattern, you will have to make a few shaping knit button holes and then sew all the pieces together, as well as sew all the buttons on your sweater.
Garter yoke baby cardi
It’s a very simple tiny cardi with seamless raglan constructions and an I-cord button band. Also, it’s a very basic and easily adjustable knitting pattern. To knit this sweater from the top down, you have to use circular needles. If you make a small sweater, use thinner yarn and a smaller needle; if you make a bigger one, use thicker yarn and larger needles.
Flax pullover sweater
This knitting pattern is perfect for more experienced learners or beginners and includes toddlers through adults. Once you knit it correctly, the only problem you will face is that all your friends will be asking or requesting you to knit them too.

what are your favorite knitting needles to use? any brands you'd recommend?
Hello kind anon!
I have a KnitPicks interchangeable set that I use a lot and really like. It goes from needle size 4 thru 11, and has cable for 24”, 32”, and 60”. I also got additional cables for 40” and 48” bc I needed them for a project and the cables were cheaper than buying a new fixed set at that time.
I also ADORE my Chiaogoo lace tip needles. They are super sharp metal tips, and they keep their sharp points which is super useful for lace knitting (and also regular knitting, but I first discovered them bc I was having a tough time with a complex lace pattern. The lace needles here made all the difference in the world haha). I have a few of their fixed circulars that I’ve added to my stash as new projects come up.
One day I want to upgrade to the Chiaogoo lace interchangeables- they are pricy though, and until my other sets become unusable (which, they are going strong lo these 10 (? it’s been a very long time) years later), I can’t justify spending that much on myself.
For me, circular needles (whether fixed or interchangeable) win out every time over straight needles. They are easier on my hands and joints, because the weight of the project rests on your lap rather than tugging down on your wrist/arm as it tries to support the project while simultaneously producing the motions for knitting. They can be used the same way as straight needles and can also be used for knitting in the round, so dual purpose there. Additionally, circular needles can hold a greater number of stitches, so they are good for blankets and shawls and such. For tiny projects where I can’t use magic loop, I do use double pointed needles (DPNs) too.
All that being said, knitting needle preferences are very individualized, so I would recommend trying a few different types and brands to get a feel for what you might like and what works for you! (And that can change over time too! For example, many years ago, I hated metal needles and p much used only bamboo bc the stitches slipped off the metal needles; now I have much better coordination and control and prefer the speed that metal needles offer).
A good place to start is thrift stores- many times they will have packs/grab bags of needles, and that way you are not set back a whole lot if you find you don’t particularly like a specific needle material or type. Once you have an idea of what works for you and what you like, you can start building a collection and adding new needles in your preferred types as projects come up.
Thank you again for the ask! I hope this is helpful!! 🤗💖🧶
