I like both Legends and Canon most of the time but has there ever been a bigger downgrade than Fenn Shyza to Fenn Rau.

Etsy: Would you like a five dollar credit? It's you anniversary with the site.
Bo-Katan/Nite Owl things are really easy to find now. But, finding something with Fenn Rau/Journeyman Protectors of Concord Dawn? Unheard of. I love my Spicy Pilot so much even if I rarely post about it.
The coins are both far bigger than I imagined; like the size of my palm. I have to figure out how to best display them but I definitely want to get the ones with Hera and Kanan too.
Everything from SpectreSurplus on Etsy.

Protectors of Concord Dawn, anyone?
I rewatched Rebels recently and have been thinking of Fenn Rau and all the Mandalorian planets and systems we might end up visiting in The Mandalorian Season 3. And I’d love to see what Fenn Rau is up to these days, and whether The Protectors—who were once the Royal Guard—have rebuilt on the third moon of Concord Dawn or elsewhere.
Which is to say I made some Protectors baseball shirts. The Mando’a says THE MANDALORIAN PROTECTORS over the Protectors’ crest and two crescent moons. You can find them here. I hope you like them.

Loose writing thoughts for Mando S3:
The mines definitely still exist but are nigh unreachable. Use the Darksaber to cut a way through? And Grogu can lift some rocks. Teamwork!
The visuals are bound to be stunning, but I really hope we get another epic shot of Concord Dawn, this time in realistic space artstyle.
There were children in the Nevarro covert, I refuse to believe they died. Working theory - Paz and the Armourer are the only ones alive who managed to keep their buckets on in the fighting, that's why they're the only two left. Potential for worldview change and character development.
Bo-Katan managed to stay alive. I will be extremely mad if we don't get at least an update on the Wrens and the Protectors. Preferably both in the form of Sabine and Fenn Rau. The Darksaber is back and in some very mandokarla hands, the Honour Guard should at least drop by.
Where there is Sabine, there must be an update on Ezra.
I've steered far from any leaks, spoilers, and suchlike, so I might be completely off the mark. But there is so much potential there.

The Protector: Thoughts about Satine, Bo, and Din as rulers of Mandalore
This has already been discussed in much better detail here, here, and here, but I realized the other day that there is another aspect to the Bo-Katan vs. Din ruling Mandalore with the Darksaber that hasn't been mentioned.
I firmly agree that Din Djarin as a character is meant to serve as the Guardian/Protector, not the Ruler, of Mandalore. He is literally a knight in shining armor. His name could be a reference to the term Paladin (thank you for this @katherynefromphilly). I mean look at him.
Tumblr media
Granted, I was excited to see him wield the Darksaber and potentially follow the reluctant leader trope. BUT. I think the direction they are taking him and Bo-Katan is much better.
So how does Satine factor into this, you ask? Here's how. What did Satine not have, as a leader? A PROTECTOR.
Now, she had Obi-Wan. And I believe she even called him her protector at one point (am I imagining this?) And he did what he could to keep her safe and give her guidance.
Tumblr media
But he wasn't really able to be her protector the way she needed. They were not able to merge their lives together the way they might have wanted. And Satine's rule suffered and was cut short due to her lack of wise counsel, her lack of someone to lean on who had both her and Mandalore's best interests at heart. (We're going to ignore the Palpatine/Empire component which would have brought down Mandalore regardless, and did so in spite of both Satine and Bo-Katan's efforts).
What has Bo-Katan also not had until now? That same protection. (Other than Fenn Rau, thank you for pointing this out @mandalorianchronicles). And her efforts have also failed, until now.
I am not at all saying that either of these incredible women need a man to be able to rule. They are strong, capable, and independent leaders in their own right. But what they do need is the space to rule, the support and protection and gaps filled that someone having their back could give them, in order to be effective and far reaching in their efforts. Good leaders have to delegate. If they try to handle everything themselves, their energy and efforts will be diminished. And the role of the guardian/protector/paladin is to do just that.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I hope we get to see just how amazing of a team these two can be, supporting each other, filling in the gaps, and coming together to unite their separate definitions of Mandalorian and their respective tribes into one renewed dynasty. (Also keeping my fingers crossed for a Satine mention in live action PLEASE).

This is the Way.

So I got to thinking about how British accents are typically interpreted as Coruscanti or Core accents, which are in turn associated with privilege and high standing. and like. there is so much worldbuilding in that concept alone, particularly when you think about different characters' accents.
I should note here that I'm considering this only as the characters' accents in Galactic Basic, not applying to any other languages. That probably doesn't make much sense, but I'm going with it anyway. Also, disclaimer: I am not a linguist and have never claimed to be.
I figure with Jedi, accents in Basic don't actually mean much. You just pick up the accent of whoever's teaching it to you (if it wasn't already your first language) as the accent of your homeworld fades away. Unless, of course, there are other Jedi who speak your native language and help you keep the language and the accent. (Which has interesting implications for, say, the difference in Shaak Ti and Ahsoka's accents.)
But then you look at characters like Padme and Palpatine. They're from the same planet, but Palpatine speaks with that Core/Coruscanti accent, while Padme does not. I think the most likely answer is that Palpatine faked it until it became natural, to help him mingle with the Galactic elite, while Padme only used the accent specific to the Queen, and only when necessary.
It gets really fascinating when you get to the Mandalorians. Korkie, Almec, Satine, Fenn Rau, and Satine's guard, Aramis, also have the Core/Coruscanti accent. Bo-Katan, Sabine, and Pre Vizsla do not. That lends itself to a whole slew of implications, but I think the most interesting one is that the New Mandalorians were either taught or deliberately cultivated that accent in order to fit in with Republic elite and appear cultured or civilized, combating the stereotype of the brutish, war-like Mandalorian, while Death Watch embraced a more Outer-Rim accent as a rejection of that diplomacy and to show loyalty to the old ways. Sabine and Korkie would have picked theirs up from the people who raised them. Mandalorian Protectors (Satine's bodyguards) may have also been taught Basic with that accent to help them maintain their image while interacting with the Republic's elite.

Hi fellow Star Wars : Rebels fans and Sabine x Ezra shippers, I hope you can indulge me for just a little while :)
I have a few questions that I haven’t found the answerd to after a rewatch ( my first since the show ended ) of Star Wars : Rebels, as well as my second watch-through of Star Wars : Ahsoka ( and of course, thoroughly scouring Wookiepedia ) :
1.1) On “‘Bine” = Did Ezra, or anybody for that matter, call Sabine, “‘Bine”, in canon?
1.2) On “Ez” = Similarly, did Sabine, or anybody else, call Ezra, “Ez”?
2) On “Blue Bean” = I know that it’s from ‘Bine, but why Blue?
3) Are the Mandalorian nouns, adjectives, sentences, etc., that I’ve seen in many, MANY fanfics, like “cyarika”, and the marriage vows, or even “dikut”, canon? Or is it made up by the fandom - or even a mixture of both ( i.e., the Mandalorian language / grammar / words do exist in canon, but they’ve been used by the fandom to suit their fanfic needs ( I’m particularly intrigued if the marriage vows ( I can’t remember the while thing, but it’s something ending with “we will raise warriors” ) do exist in canon ( they’re beautiful, either way )))
4) I know that the Mandalorian people inhabited multiple words, judging from the Rebels series ( Fenn Rau’s Protector’s planet, the Wren’s Krownest, and the main planet of Mandalore itself ). Is there a canon source for what exactly happened to Krownest and the entire Wren clan, specifically Sabine’s family ( Ursa, Alrich, and Tristan )? We know from the Ahsoka series ( from Huyang in particular ) that they’re dead - BUT HOW? Does that mean Krownest was ALSO glassed? Or was it only Mandalore that was glassed, and most of clan Wren ( particularly the ruling family / Sabine’s immediate family ) just happened to be there ( most likely fighting their war of liberation with Bo Katan leading them ( although, full disclosure, I’ve only watched S1 and S2 of The Mandalorian; I haven’t had time yet to watch S3 )) - and if this is the case, what of Krownest ( does the Wren clan stronghold still exist? )?
Thank you in advance to any of our esteemed loremasters out there who will take the time to answer :)
[ EDIT : ONE ADDITIONAL QUESTION PLEASE!!! :)
5) Did the Spectres know that the Sith Lord they encountered on Lothal ( and later on Malachor ) was actually Darth Vader - apprentice and second-in-command to the Emperor himself?
Thank you again ^_^ ]

New Mandalorians ARE the Canon Version of the True Mandalorians
Ok so, a long time coming but here's the gist:
I truly think that the New mandalorians are, to canon, what the True Mandalorians are to fanon.
Yes fanon, not Legends Canon because they aren't as good as people make them out to be in, you guess it, fanon.
Let's get on with it.
To start, let's established what I mean with Fanon True Mandalorians and Canon New Mandalorians.
New Mandalorians are show to:
Want to move on from their Imperialistic History
Not erasing any history (see: murals in the city) nor the language (see: the mando'a all over the city, in the Academy and Satine openly speaking it) nor even their warrior traditions (see: kids still knowing how to fight)
Seem to be the majority of the population, composed by a big mile by Non-Warrior AKA the majority of the population even before the civil war.
Are hated by the Death Watch
Are the middle ground
Want and Do focus on the non-warrior traditions and elite (after centuries of it being the focus on their sector), but not to the extreme of banning all warriors (see: The Mandalorian guard, the Protectors - who are lead by Fenn Rau) instead possibly asking the Warriors who Refused to back down to not start shit in return of having the least damaged planet/moon aka Concordia
Are trying to make Mandalore and it's people Better
Those outside of the Royal Guard and the police don't seem to wear armour, though those seem to not be the bounty hunting version of it and those who Don't wear it certainly seem to use clothes with the beskar heart - the Kar'ta Beskar - in them
Follow a more progressive type of government - out from the Warrior's Elite control and more into the non-warrior population (aka the majority of the population)
Don't seem to have problems calling non-warriors Mandalorians as long as they meet a certain criteria
The Fanon True Mandalorians, meanwhile (from what I could gather from fanfictions):
Warrior Focused but out of necessity because of the Civil War, but don't seem to want to focus All on the warriors
Are Hated by the Death Watch
Are the middle ground
Care about their culture
Don't seem interested in going imperialists
Are trying to make Mandalore and it's people Better
Wear Armour even outside of battle
Don't seem to be the majority of the population - fanon varies between them being a minority or being a big part of the population (or at least, the minority with the support of non-warriors)
Follow a more traditional Mandalorian Government
Don't seem to have problems calling non-warriors Mandalorians as long as they meet a certain criteria
From these, we can that they ARE similar, and if we go further into semi-canon (which is iffy but we are handling fanon while talking about canon, so I will allow it) we do know that the New Mandalorians and True Mandalorians were at least relatively neutral towards each other, imagine if the True Mandalorians were their fanon self? They would get along way better!
But that's not the point of this post, the point is to show how the New Mandalorians are the Canon Version of the True Mandalorians with a few tweaks - which I do think I already proved from the points alone.
Out of the 10 points I spoke about, 6 they immediately agree on (even if on the last points they need to have a conversation on what their mutual criteria would be), with the first and seventh point being an half point since they are in a civil war and seem to be part of warrior clans, and we were not shown any of the warrior clans in the New Mandalorians outside of Satine, a Pacifist that leads by example (hence not using her armour, especially because she might have trauma related to it), Korkie, a child that may very well not see the point to when everyone doesn't wear it + there is peace (maybe he only used it from traditional celebrations), and Almec, who doesn't wear the armour until there's a civil war again.
Either way, summed up it's 6 points out of 10 that they agree on, more than half.
The New Mandalorians could simply be the True Mandalorians but evolved post war, or, as I suggested in the start of the post, they ARE the Canon Version of the True Mandalorians.
Simply because they weren't wearing armour at all times or fighting or part of the War, people threw them under the bus as 'genocidal colonizers' (even though nothing in canon suggests otherwise, if anything it suggests the opposite).
Personal Thoughts: The Canon New Mandalorians and the Fanon True Mandalorians are a LOT more alike than people think and it's sad that all they can seem to write is 'New Mandalorians Bad, True Mandalorians the BEST EVER'.

There weren’t many truly private spaces at Chopper Base, but just inside the perimeter, you’d managed to find a cozy little cargo crate that afforded at least a semblance of solitude—a quiet place where you could unwind after shifts in the base’s “med bay,” which was just an official way of saying, “a relatively clean place where you could perform first aid and triage.” Some days, you’d join Zeb in his hideout to decompress, but if work had been particularly grueling, you’d sneak off to your little corner to be alone.
Sometimes you’d sit and stare out at the wilderness beyond the perimeter fence. Other times, like today, you’d lie on your back on top of the crate, eyes closed as you soaked up the sun, the silence, and the solitude. Alas, privacy was an illusion, and your peace was soon shattered by a familiar voice.
“Doc! Come quick, it’s urgent!”
“Is it really urgent, or is it ‘Wedge urgent’?” you asked without moving or opening your eyes.
“What’s that supposed to mean?” Wedge asked, affronted.
“Is anyone dying?” you asked.
“No.”
“Does anyone have a broken bone, or a wound that is actively bleeding?” you pressed.
“... No.”
“Is it about inventory?” a second voice cut in—a voice that never failed to make you smile when you heard it.
“Uhh…” Wedge sounded sheepish.
“Then it can wait,” the voice replied.
“But AP-5—”
“The Doc deserves a break,” the voice interrupted firmly.
Wedge sighed in defeat, and you heard the sound of his retreating footsteps. After a moment, a shadow passed over your closed eyelids, blocking out the sun. You opened your eyes and squinted up, unable to suppress your smile when you saw Fenn Rau gazing down at you with an amused expression.
“Is he gone?” you whispered.
“For now,” he replied.
“Thanks to the Protector of Chopper Base,” you smiled.
You sat up to make room for him next to you on the crate, and he sat down, his beskar armor clanging against the durasteel.
Damn it, he smells good. I probably smell like bacta. And worse.
“Long day?” he asked.
“Hmph,” you replied, which he correctly interpreted to mean “hellish.”
“I assume you don’t want to talk about it?”
“You know me so well,” you replied. “Please tell me you brought spotchka.”
“I brought spotchka.”
He held a durasteel flask, and you sighed happily. “Gods, I could kiss you right now.”
He smirked. “Are you sure about that?”
Your gaze flicked from his eyes to his lips and back again. “Yeah, actually. I am.”
His eyes widened, and a warm blush swept over his face, washing his cheeks and ears in a shade of pink that clashed adorably with his red hair. You leaned in slightly, giving him plenty of space if he wasn’t interested, and when he didn’t retreat, you raised your hand to trace your fingertips along his jaw and draw him closer to you. He swallowed audibly, and then he leaned in.
The first brush of your lips against his was light, soft. He drew a breath sharply through his nose, and when you grazed the tip of your tongue against his lips in gentle exploration, you heard the durasteel flask clatter to the ground and roll away. His hands, now free, wrapped around the back of your head and pulled you more firmly against him as he kissed you deeply.
When your lips parted at last, he caressed your cheek with his knuckles. The distant, professional part of your brain noted that you were experiencing several intriguing symptoms: tachycardia, tachypnea, presyncope. The rest of your brain just knew that your heart was pounding, your breath was racing, you felt lightheaded, and you wanted to do it all over again. You tilted your head closer again, and—
“There you are,” AP-5’s imperious, annoying karking mechanical voice cut in. “I’ve been looking for you, medic. I have a list of several inventory discrepancies that require your immediate attention.”
You closed your eyes, drew a deep breath through your nose, and counted to five. It didn't work, so you continued on to ten. When you opened your eyes, Fenn still held his face very close to yours.
“Would you like me to shoot him for you?” he offered, his breath warm and soft against your lips.
“I beg your pardon?” AP-5 demanded.
You tilted your head, pretending to consider. “I mean, it’s not like I’d be the one who had to patch him up. I repair organics, not droids. So... Sure. Go for it.”
“Now, wait a moment!” the droid objected.
“We could also just go somewhere else,” Fenn observed. “I’m fairly certain we could outrun him. I do have a jetpack, you know.”
“True,” you replied. “Besides, he’s found my hideout now.”
“Quite right,” Fenn said as he stood and extended a hand to help you up, then retrieved the fallen bottle of spotchka. “Your position has been compromised. But I have a fallback.”
“And I can think of a few compromising positions I’d like to explore,” you replied.
“Shall we?”

Satine says “we are a people of tradition” in season 3, and in this behind the scenes featurette from 2010, when lead designer Kilian Plunkett discusses the design process behind Satine (at the 16: 44 mark), he says that they tried to “make it feel that she was definitely part of this culture”. This proves that Satine hated everything about Mandalorian culture and was ashamed of her Mandalorian heritage and tried to deny it.
Mandalore joined the Republic after Satine become the leader, which is obviously inherently a bad thing because All Government Automatically Bad Always. Despite being loyal to the Republic and its core principles, she was often very vocally critical of them when she disagreed with their decisions, and she chose to stay neutral in the war and was upset at the prospect of a Republic occupation of Mandalore. This proves that she was a total shill and sell-out for the Republic who forced her people to assimilate into Republic culture. (Even though the Republic, not unlike the United Nations in the real world, is a largely symbolic organization that consists of thousands of planets with different cultures and thus there really is no one singular “Republic culture”)
In the aforementioned behind the scenes featurette, (at 7:12) Dave Filoni, Kilian Plunkett and Joel Aron discuss how the shapes in Mandalorian armor inspired the design direction of the New Mandalorians (including Satine herself as previously stated) so as to give them a uniquely Mandalorian aesthetic, from the architecture to the clothing to the artwork to the ship design to the goddamn hair textures. In Rebels, when we meet a prominent warrior clan in the form of Clan Wren, the design of their ancestral home, the artwork on the wall, and the clothing worn by non-warrior Alrich Wren all generally follow similar design cues as the New Mandalorians. These design choices were clearly not done for a reason and this only further proves that Satine stripped Mandalore of their unique identity and Made Them Assimilate Into Republic Culture™. They’re now totally interchangeable with core worlds like Coruscant because Mandalorian culture is WAR KILL DEATH CARNAGE only and none of that other stuff matters. Also, the royal palace has a giant ass mural of Mandalorians fighting Jedi in ancient times right on the front of it for all to see, which clearly shows that she was erasing history and that the New Mandalorians Forgot About Their Roots.
It’s an important plot point in both season 2 and season 5 of The Clone Wars that Death Watch cannot take Mandalore by force because they are too small in numbers and Satine has the will of the people on her side, which is why they have to ally themselves with outside forces (first the Separatists, then Maul and the criminal syndicates) and must come up with super elaborate schemes for the express purpose of painting themselves as heroes and making her look bad, and it is only by doing this that they are able to win the people over to their side, at which point she surrenders the throne. But BEFORE she lost the throne, members of the Protectors, an ancient group of elite warriors dedicated to serving as royal guards to Mandalore’s leader, made up Satine’s royal guard during the Clone Wars, as stated in this Rebels Recon episode (10:30). In Rebels, Fenn Rau, the leader of the aforementioned Protectors, says that many Mandalorians by that time regard Bo-Katan as Mandalore’s rightful ruler in part because of her relation to Satine. Also if we go by the novelization for the Shadow Collective arc in season 5 (said novelization is technically Legends now but it’s one of the few sources in either continuity that gives any specifics on how her rise to power went down and this specific detail has not been contradicted by current canon) it claims that the warriors who supported her rule did so willingly because even they were tired of the constant fighting. All of this clearly demonstrates that Satine did not respect the will of the people at all and did not have the majority on her side for the bulk of her time as ruler and her rule was definitely not recognized as legitimate by anyone.
As also mentioned in the aforementioned Rebels Recon episode, the Protectors who served as Satine’s royal guard wore armor that was essentially just a more ceremonial version of their traditional combat armor, as worn by the aforementioned Fenn Rau. Also, Sundari’s police wear armor too. Also also, Satine’s own former Prime Minister Almec has his own armor that he pulls out during the Siege of Mandalore, and since it doesn’t match the aesthetic of the other Maul loyalists it’s safe to say it’s most likely his family’s armor passed down to him. This clearly proves without a doubt that Satine flat out banned wearing armor even though that’s never stated anywhere, that’s clearly the only logical explanation as to why the average citizens don’t wear it. Certainly not because their society was actually peaceful for about 20 years give or take and they didn’t need it or anything like that.
Satine speaks Mando’a (specifically the Concordian dialect) in the literal first episode she appeared in. Mando’a can also be seen in written form on the police speeders and in the royal academy. This shows us that she suppressed the language, further destroying Mandalorian culture.
The lack of racial diversity on Mandalore in The Clone Wars was definitely NOT an out-of-universe character design problem, but rather an in-universe problem that only applies to Satine and the New Mandalorians specifically (even though their opponents in Death Watch are just as white), as opposed to, say, the True Mandalorians in Legends who are so much more racially diverse. And season 7 definitely did NOT add more New Mandalorians with darker skin-tones as a direct result of the criticisms regarding how white the planet was in the previous seasons (and because Star Wars in general became much more diverse after the Disney buyout).
Also she’s a colonizer despite literally being born on a Mandalorian colony planet. And she can’t be the leader specifically because she wasn’t born on Mandalore and is thus not a real Mandalorian, but this same logic doesn’t extend to any other Mandalorian characters who weren’t born on Mandalore, such as Jango Fett, Boba Fett, Din Djarin, Fenn Rau, Ursa Wren, Ketsu Onyo, Jaster Mereel (assuming the broad strokes of his Legends history still hold true in canon), etc.
In conclusion, if you can’t see how Satine was OBVIOUSLY meant to be seen as a villain who committed cultural genocide by telling her people to maybe stop doing imperialism in favor of focusing on productive things like art and education, and also implementing gun control, then you CLEARLY haven’t been paying enough attention. Hashtag Make Mandalore Great Again.

btw Sabine has painted her armour a few times since she got her vambraces from Protector Fenn Rau but hasn't ever painted them because they're not part of her historic family Beskar and therefore aren't hers to change. if you even care
