__________________________________________
It was a cheesy but cute story between you both. You were a medic and he was Vaqueros, a soldier, a warrior.
It felt like destiny when you two met on the field of grass where usually Alejandro and Rudy would play in.
You held a hand out to introduce yourself, “¡Hola, mi nombre es (T/N)! ¡Encantado de conocerlo!” (Hi, my name is (Y/N)! Nice to meet you!)
The younger self of Rudy, who was sitting on the ground, gave you a shocked look. Before he timidly shook your hand back.
“Rodolfo... Estoy encantado de conocerte también.” (Rodolfo. Nice to meet you too.)
He felt silly for being so shy around others, besides Alejandro and Valeria.
“Rodolfo, ¿eh? ¡Ese es un nombre genial! ¿Tienes un apodo que pueda usar?” (Rodolfo, huh? That's a cool name! Do you have a nickname I can use? )
Curse him and his shyness for turning red, “¡Oh! Uh... mi mejor amigo me llama Rudy para abreviar.” (Oh! Uh…my best friend calls me Rudy for short.)
You nodded and smiled, “Can I call you Rudy too?”
“Sure.” He gave a small when he saw your shocked look at him knowing English.
“¡¿Usted habla inglés?!” (You speak English?!)
He airly chuckled, “Mhm. Have been taught ever since 2nd grade.”
You grinned, “Cool!”
And that’s how it started, you sat down to talk more to Rodolfo. More and more until you understood everything about each other.
“¡Hola, Rudy! ¡Esa es mi hermana con la que estás hablando!” (Hey Rudy! That’s my sister you’re talking to!)
A voice you could memorize the moment you hear it revealed itself.
“Alejandro! ¿Adónde te has escapado? ¿Para ver a Valeria?~” You teased as you saw his face. (Where have you run off to? To see Valeria?~)
To say the least, Rudy did NOT see that coming, “Que? Hermana?” (What…? Sister…?)
“¡No! Estaba dando un paseo. Le ofrecí a Rudy que me acompañara, pero terminó quedándose con mi hermana.” He retorted before sitting near you both. (No! I was just taking a stroll. I offered Rudy to come along, but he ended up staying back with my sister instead.)
“¡No fue mi intención, Ale! yo no-” Rudy tried to explain the situation but he was cut off with laughter. (I didn’t mean to, Ale! I didn’t—)
“¡Está bien, Rudy! ¡Me alegro de que mi hermana y mi mejor amiga se lleven bien!” Your older brother patted his best friend in the shoulder firmly. (It's fine Rudy! I'm glad my sister and best friend are getting along!)
“This guy doesn’t let me around ANY boy. So since you're his best friend and practically brother in arms. He trusts you to have near me. Call it a blessing, Rudy. Oh, mami is telling us we should head home soon, Alejandro! I’ll be waiting up there! It was nice to meet you, Rudy!” You smiled before waving to the boys.
Rudy only lightly smiled back, waving at your disappearing figure.
“So my sister, huh?” Teased Alejandro.
“I hate it when you speak in English about these sorts of things…It makes it known you want to tease me.” Groaned Rudy.
“Haha! You know too well, brother. Te daré mis bendiciones. Realmente quiero que al menos alguien como tú, esté casado con mi hermana. Así que será mejor que no pierdas contra algún delincuente, ¿entendido?” (I'll give you my blessings. I really want at least someone like you, to be married to my sister. So you better not lose to some lowlife, you got it?)
“Si¡(Yes!)” responded Rudy with a firm nod.
“Bien. Me ocuparé de eso entonces. Vamos, ella nos está esperando. (Good. I'll see to it then. Come on, she's waiting for us.)” Alejandro stood up, helped up Rudy to his feet as they walked to his home.
After getting to know each other, you all became a hit trio. Anyone around the block would know of you three. If one was being mistreated, the other will seek revenge for the other.
You were inseparable. A force to be reckoned with. An unbreakable team.
When Alejandro thought of enlisting in the army, Rudy was quick to follow his best friend. Even if it meant that he had to stay away from his love, he’s do anything to at least be near his crush’s family.
You were quick to agree and join in the enlisting but your brother told you not to.
“Escucha, ángel. Hago esto para protegerte del daño. El mundo de la guerra por ahí, es demasiado peligroso. No puedo dejarte morir porque te dejé venir conmigo. Pensaré que es mi culpa si mueres…” (Listen, angel. I'm doing this to protect you from harm. The world of warfare out there, it's too dangerous. I can't let you die because I let you come along with me. I'll think it's my fault if you died…)
It’s not that he finds you weak, he just doesn’t want you to experience horrible things when you could’ve studied to become something better for you.
You stood up from your chair at the table, “Lo sé, lo sé... ¡Pero no puedo soportar dejar que ustedes dos se vayan sin que yo esté con ustedes! Soy el único que venda sus heridas cada vez que se lastiman por protegerme. Quiero ser un activo al menos.”(I know, I know...But I can't bear to let you two leave without me being with you! I'm the only one wrapping your wounds whenever you guys get injured from protecting me. I want to be an asset at least.)
That moment, Rudy held your hand with his, “Ángel, por favor. Al menos hazlo por mí, por nosotros. No moriremos. Volveremos más fuertes que nunca.” (Angel, please. At least do it for me-for us. We won't die. We'll come back stronger than ever.)
You stared into the eyes you grew to adore every time you’d gaze at them. You felt stupid for falling for him so easily but it couldn’t be helped. He was your weak point, and you knew it.
You eventually sighed, “Bien, te dejaré ir. ¡PERO! Voy a ser su médico personal de su regimiento. Sin peros, sis o ands.” (Fine, I'll let you go. BUT! I am going to be your personal medic of your regiment. No buts, ifs or ands.)
“Bueno para mí. Rudy?” (Good for me. Rudy?) Your brother accepted your choice and turned to his best friend.
He nodded, still holding your hand, “Sí, estoy bien con eso. Es la elección de Ángel.” (Yes, I am fine with it. It's Angel's choice.)
That made your 18 year old self feel all giddy like a 7th grader trying to talk to their first ever real deal crush.
“Te estás poniendo demasiado cómoda con su apodo, ¿eh, Rudy?” Alejandro nudged his friend’s arm. (You’re getting way too comfortable with her nickname, eh, Rudy?)
“¡Detener! ella esta frente a nosotros.” (Stop! She’s in front of us.)
He was lucky you were too distracted by him using Alejandro’s nickname for you.
(Timeskip to a year)
You did as you told them, you became a medic for their regiment. Alejandro couldn’t be more proud, alongside Rudy.
You three were still an inseparable team, one healer with two soldiers, a perfect team.
But this perfect team, was soon about to break apart thanks to a certain ‘nameless’ person.
“Hermana! Quiero que conozcas a Valeria en persona.” Smiled Alejandro going in your office with a woman. (Want you to meet Valeria in person.)
“Ángel, ¿verdad? Encantado de conocerte, niño dorado.” Smirked the woman giving you a handshake that you slowly took. (Angel, right? Nice to meet you, golden child.)
“Establecerse.” (Settle down) Alejandro tried to get Valeria to stop teasing others.
You waved it off and faked a small smile, “Está bien. Soy el niño dorado después de todo, por supuesto.” (It’s fine. I am the golden child after all, of course.)
“Está bien, ahora estás yendo demasiado lejos con ese ego tuyo, Angel.” Your brother nudged your side. (Okay, now you're going too far with that ego of yours, Angel.)
“You two seem like a good pair of siblings.” Said Valeria surprisingly in English.
“We are, if I do say so myself.” You replied back.
“Ella me gusta. (I like her.) See you around you two.” Smiled the woman before leaving.
“Tengo que irme también. El Capitán quiere que entrene a algunos reclutas.” (I have to leave as well. Captain wants me to train some recruits.) After your brother gave you a hug, he went on his way to leave.
“Alejandro.” Your voice seemed either stern or like a warning to him. Maybe both?
He turned to see with a serious gaze, “No te dejes engañar por ella.” (Don’t be fooled by her.)
He knew what you meant, but he didn’t say anything, “Si hermana.” (Yes, sister)
And with that, he was gone. You had hoped he at least taken your warning to heart and not waved it off.
But in a few months, you were all fighting for your lives.
Valeria had made a deal, a big one. It costed the Mexican Army to fall to the hands of the cartel.
Thanks to her.
Your hunch was right. But oh you were so mad you were right.
“¡Mierda!” (Fuck!) your sibling was the most angry of all.
Rudy and you only looked at each other before looking back at the angered soldier.
You three had just moved to become part of the Los Vaqueros. After finding out that most of the Mexican Army works with the Cartel.
“¿Alguna señal de Valeria? (Any sign of Valeria?)” Rodolfo was the only one with enough guts to ask you that question.
You shook your head grimly, “Mm mm. Desapareció desde que comenzó el tiroteo.” (Mm mm. She disappeared ever since the gun fire started.)
It’s only been a few weeks ever since Valeria left the army after the turning of the Mexican Army, you wondered why sometimes.
“¡Esa bruja! ¡Ella nos engañó y dejó el ejército! (That witch! She tricked us and left the army!)” yelled Alejandro.
“Fue porque confiaste demasiado en ella, hermano. Te advertí sobre ella. Tenía que suceder.” You walked up to your brother. (It was because you trusted her too much, brother. I warned you about her. It was bound to happen.)
He stopped and looked at you, “¿Estás diciendo que fue mi culpa, (T/N)? ¿Es eso lo que estás tratando de decir?” (Are you saying it was my fault, (Y/N)? Is that what you're trying to say?)
You held your stance even if you were met with a scary gaze, “Principalmente. ¡Fuiste tú quien la hizo sentir que podía derribarte fácilmente! ¡La trajiste e hiciste entrar en nuestras vidas!"(Mostly. It was you who made her feel like she could easily tear you down!) You pointed a finger to him, "¡Nuestro equipo! ¡NUESTRA FAMILIA!” (You brought her in and made get in our lives! Our team! OUR FAMILY!)
You weren’t one to yell, but Alejandro needed to properly listen to you.
That made his blood boil over, “¡TÚ TAMBIÉN CONFÍAS EN ELLA! ¡LA RECIBIÓ TANTO COMO YO CON RUDY!” (YOU TRUSTED HER TOO! YOU WELCOMED HER AS MUCH AS I DID WITH RUDY!)
Rudy seemed displeased on seeing the siblings fight, “Ale, Ángel-” but he was cut off by you yelling.
“¡PERO NO ESCUCHASTE CUANDO TE DIJE QUE TE CONTENGAS DE EXPONER TUS PUNTOS DÉBILES! ¡AHORA SE HA IDO! ¡EL EJÉRCITO MEXICANO SE GIRO CON EL CARTEL! ¡ESTAMOS TODOS SOLOS ALEJANDRO! ¡CONSIGUE ESO EN TU CRÁNEO GRUESO!” You yelled as you jabbed your index on his armor vest. (BUT YOU DIDN'T LISTEN WHEN I TOLD YOU TO RESTRAIN YOURSELF OF EXPOSING YOUR WEAK POINTS! NOW SHE'S GONE! THE MEXICAN ARMY TURNED WITH THE CARTEL! WE'RE ALL ALONE ALEJANDRO! GET THAT IN YOUR THICK SKULL!)
That last rant made you breathless before you realized what you said, “Ale…Lo siento…” (Ale…I’m sorry…)
“Angel!” Rudy saw you leave as Alejandro didn’t even look in your direction and only sighed in frustration.
That was when the friend of the Vargas siblings knew what he to do, “Alejandro. Sé que duele y es frustrante. Pero esta no es la forma de resolver problemas como este.” (Alejandro. I know it hurts and it is frustrating. But this is not how to solve problems like this. )
His friend only crossed his arms and looked away. But Rudy still didn’t give up, he even went to move to see his friend’s eyes.
“Valeria hizo esto porque sabía que te castigarías a ti mismo por esto. Llegamos demasiado tarde para darnos cuenta de sus planes.” (Valeria did this because she knew you'd beat yourself up from this. We were just too late to catch on to her plans.)
(Please understand that Angel only wants best for you. She wanted to look out for you. That was all she wanted.)
You can see a change in his eyes, but his frown was still eminent, “Te dejaré pensar.” (I’ll leave you to think.)
Rudy soon left to go find you.
You were found outside, in the training yard, staring at the rain.
You didn’t care about your wet clothes that stuck to your skin. All you thought was what you said back there at your brother's face.
In all the years you’ve known each other, from your mom, you’d NEVER fight or had an argument. At least a real one that leads to guilt. This was the first argument you both had in your lives. Of course, you’re not taking it well.
Soon, an umbrella covered your figure but you didn’t want anyone’s presence, "Vete por favor…” (Go away please…)
“Cogerás un resfriado.” (You’ll catch a cold.)
Your breath hitched when you heard the smooth and loving voice of Rodolfo himself.
He smiled and got you to stand up to your feet.
“Me equivoqué mucho, Rudy... ¡Muy mal! ¡Probablemente me odia!” (I messed up bad, Rudy…So bad! He probably hates me!) Your face looked like you had cried waterfalls in addition with the rain. That broke the man’s heart seeing you like this.
“Ven aquí…” He gave you a hug as you sniffled here and there. (Come here…)
He soothed you by rubbing circles along your back, “Él no te odia, Ángel. Estoy seguro de eso. Simplemente es duro consigo mismo para que esto suceda bajo su supervisión. No es tu culpa.” (He doesn't hate you, Angel. I'm sure of that. He's just hard on himself for this to happen under his supervision. It's not your fault.)
You pulled away from his chest, “¿Lo prometes?” (You promise?)
“Con mi vida en juego por ti.” (With my life on the line for you.)
That made you look at him in slight shock, “Rudy…”
“Quería decírtelo desde que éramos niños, pero... pensé que no me tomarías en serio. Por eso esperé hasta que llegó el momento. Y creo que es ahora.” He started giving you a semi-serious look. (I've wanted to tell you ever since we were kids but...I thought you wouldn't take me seriously. That's why I waited until the time came. And I think it's now.)
He held your hand, umbrella long gone by now, “(T/N) Vargas, te había amado por años y años. Y todavía lo hago. Admiro tu valentía, amabilidad y personalidad dentro o fuera del campo. Eres el ángel con el que los dioses me han bendecido para caminar. Te amo.” ((Y/N) Vargas, I had loved you for years and years. And I still do. I admire your courage, kindness and personality when on or off the field. You are the Angel the gods have blessed me to walk alongside with. I love you.)
You couldn’t believe it, the man you had loved ever since you were a child just confessed his feelings to you.
“Rudy…” you couldn’t even start on the unraveling emotions coursing through your veins right now.
“Probablemente no me ames pero... quería decírtelo antes de que me arrepienta y muera sin decírtelo.” (You probably don't love me back but...I wanted to tell you before I regret it and die without telling you.)
You held his right cheek with a soft smile, “Yo también te amo, Rudy.” (I love you too, Rudy.)
He froze before kissing the palm of the hand on his cheek.
“May I?” He asked in English, making you giggle at his quirkiness.
“Yes, Vaquero. You can.” The moment you gave him permission, he kissed you like there was no tomorrow.
It was gentle but at the same passionate, a kiss from all of the bottled up feelings. Held in for years until it was time to open them.
After the kiss he put his forehead on hers, “Prometo. Con mi vida, que te amaré, cuidaré y adoraré. La forma en que te lo mereces.” (I promise. With my life, that I will love, cherish and adore you. The way you deserve.)
“Me ocuparé de eso entonces. (I’ll see to it then.)” you replied.
That was the day where your love story evolved into something more.
You and Alejandro had a talk and forgave each other for what happened. Your promise to each other was to support the other no matter what happens. (With also giving a proper scolding if needed.)
Your brother patted his best friend in celebration for your relationship, “Cuida de ella Rudy. Ella significa mucho para mí.” (Take care of her Rudy. She means a lot to me.)
His best friend was shocked to hear that from him, since you haven’t even told him yet. But he was glad that he was trusted enough to be declared your boyfriend.
“No te preocupes. Ella está en buenas manos. (Don’t worry. She’s in safe hands.)” Rudy held your hand as you tightened his hold.
“Al menos déjame hacer una regla. Nada de besos en el trabajo.” The three of you laugh but agree to the terms. (At least let me make one rule. No kissing on the job.)
It has been several months since you both confessed. Life got better. You quickly got Alejandro to be back on his feet. And let’s say, he quickly got up the ranks and became the leader of the Los Vaqueros.
Rudy ranked to being his second-in-command.
“Hermana, usted es la jefa del departamento médico de Los Vaqueros.” (Sister, you're the head of the Los Vaqueros Medical department.)
That was the best news you’ve heard ever you turned 20, “¡¿En realidad?! ¡De ninguna manera! (Really?! No way!)”
You saw the many nurses and doctors lined up to meet you, “Hola jefa! (Hello, chief!)”
“Hola.” You waved to them. (Hello.)
You gave your brother a hug that could crush bones, “¡Te amo mucho! ¡Gracias!” (I love you so much! Thank you!)
He only chuckled before hugging back with equal strength, “Yo también te amo Ángel.” (I love you too, Angel.)
“Cuidarla bien? ¡Y asegúrate de hacer una reverencia antes de dirigirte a ella!” (Take care of her alright? And make sure you bow before addressing her!)
“Sí comandante.” (Yes, commander.)
Rudy came up to you, “Te lo ganaste, Ángel.” (You earned it, Angel.)
You smiled, “Gracias, segundo al mando.” (Thanks, second in command.)
This was a big step for the three of you. And you’re all happy by it.
(Several years later…)
Rudy kept on playing with a dark violet box for the past 10 minutes.
“¡Por amor de dios! ¡Solo propón hermano! Parece que estás enojado con la caja.” A voice yelled in Rudy’s office. (For god sake! Just propose brother! You look like you’re mad at the box.)
That only made the man sigh, “No sé cómo decirle. Y no sabemos si tendremos un día libre, teniendo en cuenta que el cartel sigue ahí fuera.” (I don’t know how to tell her. And we don’t know if we’ll get a day off, considering the cartel is still out there.)
“Ella está libre mañana. Y le pediré a Rodríguez que te reemplace.” (She’s free tomorrow. And I’ll ask Rodriguez to fill in for you.)
And the leader knew his best friend was going to intervene, “No te preocupes, solo concéntrate en proponer. Quiero que ya seamos cuñados.” (Don’t worry, just focus on proposing. I want us to be brothers-in-law already.)
Alejandro made Rudy sit back down, “Comandante, todo está listo para mañana.” You arrived with Rodriguez in tow. (Commander, everything is set for tomorrow.)
The two commanders looked at you both like you were aliens.
“¿Qué? (What?)” You gave the males a look.
The two shook their heads as Alejandro covered what was in Rudy’s hands, “Nada.” (Nothing.)
Rodriguez gave you a look, you only shrugged, “Creo que esconden algo, jefa.”(I think they’re hiding something, chief.)
“Ohoho…! Yo sé eso. (I know that.)” you chuckled.
Alejandro gave a look to his friend before having an idea, “Rodríguez! Reúna al equipo e infórmeles sobre el plan para mañana.” (Rodriguez! Get the team assembled and inform them in the plan for tomorrow.)
“Si, comandante. (Yes, commander.)” The soldier saluted before leaving.
“Estaré en mi oficina.” Alejandro quickly started moving to give the couple some time together alone. (I’ll be in my office.)
Rudy was not liking his plan, “Alejandro…!” He whispered-yelled but was only ignored.
The door closed as you walked up to your boyfriend of 7 years.
“Hola amor. ¿Cómo estás?” The Vaqueros in front of you kissed your right hand. (Hi, love. How are you?)
That made you smile, “Bien. ¿Qué pasó antes de que Rodríguez y yo entráramos?” (Fine. What happened before me and Rodriguez entered?)
Rudy didn’t know how to not blow his cover, “¡Una cita! Me refiero a una cita para los dos, es decir... ¿Mañana si te animas?” He stammered. (A date! I mean a date for the both of us, that is… Tomorrow if you’re up for it?)
It was cute after many years of knowing each other and dating, he still gets shy over the simplest things.
You held his face, “Me encantaría, Rodolfo.” (I’d love that, Rodolfo.)
(The next day)
For the last half hour, your lover was quite eager but nervous at the same time.
He insisted on driving to the market, but you worried about how shakey his hands are.
You both made it as he held your hand. Usually it wouldn’t be possible to initiate physical contact. Considering Rudy would tell you to keep it on the down low, so others won’t know except for Alejandro and some sergeants. (Ever since you became the heads of the Los Vaqueros, everyone knew about you and Rudy. They just keep quiet to ensure your privacy.)
“Vamos a ver. Necesitamos más frutas. Estoy planeando hacer una canasta de frutas para mi amiga que se casa pronto.” You held a bag. (Let's see. We need more fruits. I'm planning on making a fruit basket for my friend who's getting married soon.)
“Felicidades por ella. Podemos conseguir tantos como necesites.” (Congrats for her. We can get as many you need.)
You kissed his cheek in thanks, “Gracias querido.” (Thanks, dear.)
You talked to the woman who happily gave you some on a discount, “A mitad de precio ya que tu esposo es amigo de Alejandro. ¡Y por supuesto que eres su hermana!” (Half price since your husband is friends with Alejandro. And of course you being his sister!)
‘Esposo?!’ Your eyes became like saucers, looking directly at Rudy who helped a lady carry some bags that fell over her cart. (Husband?!)
“¡Parece un amor, querida! Tienes que casarte con él antes de que sea demasiado tarde. Puede que se desespere.” The woman told you. (He looks like a sweetheart, dear! You need to marry him before it's too late. He might get desperate.)
That made you think. You and Rudy have been dating for nearly 10 years and never had the time for marriage because of the military.
‘Does he want to?’ You thought before taking the bags of fruit from the lady who smiled and waved goodbye.
“Muchas gracias, joven. Fuiste de gran ayuda.” Smiled the elderly lady, pinching his cheek before leaving. (Thank you very much, young man. You were a great help.)
“De nada.” He waved back. (You’re welcome.)
“Creo que mi hermano se te está contagiando, querida.” You nudged his shoulder a bit. (I think my brother is rubbing off of you, dear.)
He only chuckled, “Tal vez lo sea. ¿Terminaste aquí? Tengo un lugar para mostrarte.” (Maybe he is. Are you done here? I got a place to show you.)
You nodded, “Sí, lo soy. ¿Y adónde vamos?” (Yes, I am. And where are we going?)
You were only given a kiss as he moved to the car, “Pronto lo descubrirás.” (You'll find out soon enough.)
‘Yeah that lady was right…I need to marry that NOW!’ You thought, before heading in the car with your boyfriend to head to the mysterious destination.
~~~
“¿Era necesario que me cegara?” (Is it necessary for me to be blinded?)
“Sí querido. Ahora muévete lentamente hacia aquí.” You both started to move before he stopped. (Yes, my dear. Now just slowly move over here.)
“Lista?” Rudy whispered into your ear. You swore you felt shivers. (Ready?)
“Si esto es una broma tuya y de Alejandro. Cortaré tu intestino.” You stated, he only smiled but you couldn’t see it. (If this is a prank by you and Alejandro. I'll cut up your intestine.)
“Si, si cariño. Ahora, ¿estás listo ahora?” (Yes, yes, honey. Now, are you ready?)
You nodded, “Mhm.”
When your eyes were finally released from darkness you gasped at the view.
It was the same grass field you two met when you were kids. But that wasn’t the only thing you saw. There was a beautiful blanket settled down for you both with pre-made food.
“Oh amor. Esto es tan hermoso. Aún lo recordabas.” Rudy got you to sit down next to him. (Oh, love. This is so beautiful. You still remembered.)
“Por supuesto lo hice. Aquí es donde nos conocimos por primera vez. Y el día que me enamoré de ti.” He replied before placing his hand on yours. (Of course I did. This is where we first met. And the day I fell for you.)
“¿Amaste desde que éramos niños?” You were quite surprised he fell that early for you. (You loved me ever since we were kids?)
He nodded with a dopey smile, “Mhm. (Y/N). Tengo algo que preguntarte.” (I have something to ask to you.)
His eyes gave you a hint that it was serious, “Está bien, adelante.” (Okay, go ahead.)
The second-in-command took a shaky breathe, “Desde que nos conocimos, trajiste luz a mi mundo, Ángel. Me siento bendecido de haber sido titulado tu amante durante los últimos 8 años. Pero ahora, quiero que mi ángel sea una diosa.” (Ever since we first met, you brought light to my world, Angel. I feel blessed to have been titled your lover for the past 8 years. But now, I want my Angel to be a goddess.)
“Rudy…” you gasped when you saw the dark violet box.
“¿Una diosa como tú tomará mi mano en matrimonio?” He asked on his knee, presenting you the ring. (Will a goddess like you, take my hand in marriage?)
You teared up before nodding, “Si! Si! Si Rodolfo!” (Yes! Yes! Yes, Rodolfo!)
You didn’t give him time to talk after he slid the ring on your finger, by kissing him.
“Espero no haber llegado demasiado tarde.” He shyly spoke after the kiss. (I hope I wasn’t too late.)
You only chuckled, “No, no lo eres, vaquero.” (No, you’re not cowboy.)
“¡Ahí está ella!” Your mother ran up to you with your father in tow. (There she is!)
She gave you a hug, while your father gave you a kiss on the cheek, “Te ves hermosa.” (You look beautiful!)
“Gracias, mamá, papá.” (Thanks, mom, dad.)
“Estaremos comenzando pronto. Toma, déjame arreglar tu maquillaje por última vez.” Your mother brought out a cotton pad to check your makeup. (We'll be starting soon. Here, let me fix your makeup one last time.)
“Gracias, mamá. ¡Empecemos!” You smiled to your mother. (Thanks, mom. Let’s start!)
She nodded and urged her husband to move, “¡Muévete, amor!” (Move it, love!)
“Estas nervioso?” (You nervous?) Asked Alejandro to Rudy who’s practically shaking in his boots.
“Muy. No quiero hacer algo vergonzoso por accidente.” He replied, fixing his tie for the 12th time. (Very. I don't want to accidentally do something embarrassing.)
Your brother only laughed and told your soon to be husband that everything will be fine.
Those words didn’t help the second in command when he started hearing the music.
It meant on your arrival to the altar.
Your parents were beside you to walk you down the aisle.
“ella es impresionante…” (She’s breathtaking…)
“No llores ahora, hermano.” Teased Alejandro. (Don’t cry now, brother.)
“creo que es demasiado tarde…” Rodriguez had the grace to be there also. (I think that’s too late late…)
The males saw the groom hold back tears, but some already spilled over.
“¿Rudy está llorando?” You worried over your lover as your dad only assured you he’s fine. (Is Rudy crying?)
“Sucede cuando un hombre encuentra a la persona adecuada, querida. Él es feliz.” (It happens when a man finds the right person, dear. He's just happy.)
Your father was right, you saw a smile on your love’s face. And that made you relieved Rudy is alright.
You finally reached to your brother and future husband, “Te ves perfecta, hermana.” (You look perfect, sister.)
“Gracias, Ale.” (Thank you, Ale.)
“pareces una diosa.” Whispered Rudy taking your hand, after making a promise to your parents. (You look like a goddess.)
“Eres demasiado amable, Parra.” You smiled. (You’re too kind, Parra.)
The priest started the ceremony, your mother cried here and there. So your dad had to console her numerous times.
“Cuando me declaren como tu marido. Te prometo a ti ya mí mismo que te mantendré alejado de los problemas del mundo. Amarte y cuidarte, como mereces que te traten.” (When I get declared to be your husband. I vow to you and myself I'll keep you safe from the troubles of the world. Love and cherish you, like what you deserve to be treated like.)
That made you cry a bit before doing your vow, “Cuando me declaren tu esposa. Te prometo que me quedaré a tu lado, incluso si eso significa una muerte segura. Estaré allí para curarte cuando te lastimes y siempre te apoyaré.” (When I get declared to be your wife. I promise I will stay by your side, even if it means certain death. I'll be there to heal you when you get hurt and will always support you.)
“Caminaré a través del fuego del infierno contigo también, amor.” Rudy gently squeezed your hands. (I'll walk through hellfire with you too, love.)
“Usted puede ahora besar a la novia. Y ahora sois marido y mujer.” (You may now kiss the bride. And you are now husband and wife.)
That was your cue, you two shared the first kiss as husband and wife.
“Esa/Ese es mi bebe!” (That's my baby!) Shouted your mother with Rudy’s mother as well.
“Los tomó el tiempo suficiente.” Smirked Alejandro. (Took them long enough.)
You two walked down the aisle hand in hand.
The reception was amazing, families and close relatives and friends were together and having fun.
(Except for Alejandro trying to smudge some cake in you and Rudy’s faces…You were able to dodge it by the last second.)
(6 years later.)
You walked in the base of the Los Vaqueros, “Rudy. Tengo algunas noticias que contarte a ti ya Alejandro.” Finally, you reached Rudy’s office. (Rudy. I got some news to tell you and Alejandro.)
The man smiled, lifting his gaze from the computer screen to you, “¿Noticias? ¿Es mala?” (News? Is it bad?)
“Nunca hay buenas o malas noticias, amor. Es algo sobre el cartel que encontré de la noche a la mañana.” You said giving him some files. (There's never good or bad news, love. It's something about the cartel that I found overnight.)
His eyes hardened at the information, “Esto no es bueno por decir lo menos. Lo llamaré.” (This is not good to say the least. I’ll call him over.)
After a few moments, the commander of the Los Vaqueros arrived, “Hola tortolitos. Escuché que hay algunas noticias sobre el cartel.” (Hey lovebirds. I heard there's some news about the cartel.)
“No hay tiempo para bromas, hermano. Mira esto.” Rudy gave your brother the files you handed him before. (No time for jokes brother. Look at this.)
He scanned over the papers and scowled with a sigh, “¿Cómo encontraste esto?” (How did you find this?)
“Comprobando las últimas noticias. Escuché que hay algo más de contrabando en Amsterdam. Motivos, desconocidos. Recién me enteré anoche.” You answered before taking out a tablet that hold images. (Checking in on the latest news. I heard there's some more smuggling in Amsterdam. Reasons, unknown. I only found out last night.)
“Y no sabemos cuándo comenzaron su mudanza. Por lo que sabemos, podrían haberse estado moviendo desde la semana o el mes pasado bajo nuestras narices.” Your husband agreed. (And we don't know when they started their move. For all we know, they could've been moving ever since last week or month under our noses.)
Alejandro nodded at that, “Vamos a charlar con ellos, entonces. Rudy, prepara a nuestros hombres. Estás a cargo de la base, hermana.” (Let’s go have a chat with them, then. Rudy, get our men ready. You’re in charge of the base, sister.)
“Sí comandante.” The couple replied. (Yes, commander.)
While you were walking with the two, you suddenly had an idea, “¿Por qué no pedir ayuda a nuestros amigos en el extranjero? Estoy seguro de que acabaríamos con el Cártel más rápido de esa forma.” (Why not ask for help from our friends overseas? I'm sure we'd finish off the Cartel faster that way.)
“Pensaremos en eso más tarde, querida. Cuídate, ¿de acuerdo?” Rudy held your hand before giving you a quick kiss. (We'll think about that later, dear. Be safe alright?)
You gave him a teasing look, “Debería ser yo quien te lo diga. Ten cuidado ahí fuera.” (I should be the one telling you that. Be careful.)
“Servirá.” He replied. (Will do.)
“Jefa, tenemos más pacientes de la última brigada llegando.” A nurse from your regiment arrived to tell you some news. (Chief, we have more patients from the last brigade coming in.)
You nodded, “Entiendo. Gracias por decirme. Prepara al equipo para tratarlos y espérame.” (Got it. Thanks for telling me. Get the team ready to treat them and wait for me.)
She nodded and soon left, “Hasta luego.” You smiled. (See you later.)
“Hasta luego.” He said back. (See you later.)
“¡Hora del apretón de manos!” You held your hand out to start the handshake you both made up years ago. (Handshake time!)
The second-in-command only chuckled and did the handshake you wanted.
“Be back soon, Mr. Parra.” You spoke in English.
“Always. Ms. Parra.” He nodded back before saluting and leaving.
“¿Dónde está mi apretón de manos con mi hermana?” (Where’s my handshake with my sister?)
You shook your head at your brother’s antics, “¡Haremos uno que recordarás más tarde, Ale!” (We’ll make one you can remember, Ale!)
He took offense in that and only flipped you off slightly. That made you and your husband near him cackle.
And that was the past and story of an Angel and a cowboy.
