I’ve gone on and on about how Leo wants to be who Splinter finds is the ideal person (which just so happens to be Splinter’s ideal version of himself) but I have yet to really touch upon how Donnie is the one who most directly parallels Splinter himself to an honestly shocking degree, Raph’s taking from Splinter’s teachings and parenting has resulted in an unhealthy mixup in the different dynamics of a family versus a team, and Mikey is the one who is simultaneously the most focused on family and the most intrinsically himself which both leads to his better grasp of mystics and honestly what just might be the healthiest dynamic with Splinter.

In political spheres, I so often want to ask, "is what you're doing 'punching up,' or are they just an easily-available, acceptable target?"

#politics #because i find that it's oftentimes... not punching up #so often i see 'punching up' as 'whoever i can sink my claws into without being chastised' #and i think it's a fundamentally reactionary mindset to think 'who can i attack without recourse?' #it isn't punching up to the patriarchy to exclude and chastise trans men* for example... #...and too often people hyperfocus on the 'how does it make ME look?' to do this rather than on... #...who would be affected by their actions and what they advocate for... #...maybe it wouldn't make somebody look bad to say that trans men* for instance should be ran out of every space because it's 'punching up' #...but how exactly would that affect the marginalized group (being trans men*)... #....anyway that's an example i've seen (and experienced) of this in case it makes it clearer... #...no this isn't solely about trans men* and no this isn't saying that only trans men* are affected by this... #...it's something a lot of marginalized people both experience and may even perpetuate on individual levels... #...because it often feels GOOD to 'punch up'. you're told that it's 'showing them what's what' and maybe sometimes that's the case... #...but i've seen it too often where somebody is actively damaging a marginalized person/group as a means of 'punching up' #and that's why i ask... okay is this punching up or is it an attempt to gain control in a powerless situation through any means necessary?

like every now and then I wonder. am I being too hard on Rauru. am I being too me about that scene by thinking that he's leaning on Ganondorf a little harder than necessary, that he's being just a little more condescending than he has to be, that he maybe likes a petty power play a little more than the rest of how the game seems to want us to think of him would imply.

but let's be real, he and Ganondorf are in full agreement that Rauru's fatal flaw is arrogance. and also. someone very kind directly translated* the Japanese cutscenes into English the other day (x) and I

(breathes calmly) lower-class vassal. your submission to Hyrule Kingdom. my Hyrule. the nasty little implication (am I imagining this) that Ganondorf--proud warrior, king--is now subsumed into Hyrule and is become Rauru's possession. I am still breathing calmly. I am deeply normal about this.

Like I have seen people argue that no no, the other peoples/tribes weren't asked to submit to Hyrule, they were simply allies of the new kingdom, but Ganondorf sure seems to think that submission is what Rauru's after or at least is the bait he will willingly take; and even knowing full well that that's an evil guy Rauru is more than willing to play along.

and yet the game still wants us to look at Rauru as a Good King figure. as a noble ruler. And the thing is I am honestly convinced that he does actually want or at the very least he is convinced he wants to unite the peoples of Hyrule simply so that everyone can be united and be friends! I do actually think this is his genuine desire! I also think he made up a kingdom so he could be king of it and this is inherently an action to be deeply suspicious of. He is arrogant. Again, the game is quite firm on that point. There is a sort of presumption that power should rightfully lie with him.

and I posit that when he's faced with Ganondorf, known evil bad guy, whatever part of Rauru's superego tells him that he should tamp down the part of him that enjoys being the one with power simply... steps back a little. because it's all right, here. Ganondorf is evil, so it's allowed.

i want to live in the world where dragon age inquisition got to have the in-depth strategy / political organization sim elements bioware obviously wanted it to have where your decisions in managing the inquisition actually meant anything for how it operates and had effects on the game world. sadly we live in the universe where art needs to make profit

#dragon age #dragon age inquisition #you can see the remnants of their vision #like in the requisitions system #which obviously was originally intended to not just be meaningless crafting recipes that give you meager amounts of Influence and Power #even influence and power feel like stripped back abstractions of what they originally wanted #the early trailers of the game made establishing and managing keeps in each region look a lot more important than they ended up being #also the da2 resource system would've made infinitely more sense in inquisition than going around grabbing individual resources personally #as you walk around #and it is kind of there in the final game? like the logging stands and whatnot are similar in concept though they really are just for the #pointless shallow requisitions rather than anything of any actual impact #i remember also that early talk of the game included a mechanic where it was possible to overhunt wildlife or overharvest resources #which never actually manifested in the final game #but could've been interesting for things like the refugees in the hinterlands who need food #a mechanic like that could open up player choice of balancing providing for the refugees with responsibly managing the local resources #rather than how the quest is in the final game which is just “go kill 10 rams”

#imo steve rogers was done with cap almost from the moment he defrosted. he spent 70 years in the ice and when he woke up #captain america had evolved into a legend. a symbol. a definition of who the world thought he should be #he was back to being the performing monkey #and it weighted hiim down rather than make him stronger #he saw this new rold and realized it had just as many (if not more) issues for him to stand up and fight for #and he did! #the sokovia acords #hydra infiltration and the corruption of the govt #enhanced individuals illegally locked on a raft #bucky #but every time he did what he thought was right there was someone asking why captain america was making these choices #acting illegally becoming a fugitive. acting on his own #sam became a fugitive with steve bc he agreed that was the right thing to do #his sense of morality is also so strong #he is kind and empathetic #loyal and determined #but he is not as jaded as steve #and dare I say not as short tempered #he sees the power captain america holds and he knows he can harness it #that not only is he able to but he can/will do great things #he is the best person steve could pass the shield do #I just wish we saw /our/ steve rogers handing it off

i really love young Basim ok? He’s kind and respectful and every time I think an annoying trope is going to happen it doesn’t.
