Modern AU! for rdr2 characters

These are my headcannons for each character and what I think they would do in modern times.

Characters included: Arthur, Micah, Dutch, John, Abigail, Mary-Beth, Karen, Tilly, Sadie, Strauss, Charles, Susan, Bill, Lenny, Hosea, Sean, Molly, Javier, Swanson

Arthur Morgan:

He works a blue-collar job. He would most likely be a ranch hand, but for some reason, I can also imagine him being a plumber or welder. In his free time, he does art and sells prints on Etsy. He is still an old-fashioned gentleman (In a good way), and all of the ladies he meets swoon for him, but he is a himbo and doesn't realize they are practically in love with him. They will give him the most obvious hints, but he will think the women are just being nice.

Micah Bell:

He's the creepy uncle that you avoid at every family gathering. He hasn't had a job in like 15 years, and no one knows how he can still pay his bills. And he also always smells like lingering alcohol and cigarettes. He will lean too close to his nieces and say extremely concerning things everyone would choose to ignore. Im also getting the vibes that he went to prison for several years, but no one knows what for.

Dutch Van Der Linde:

He sells people scams or owns a pyramid scheme business. Similar to Scentsy products, he somehow convinces all of these people to buy his products to sell to other people, telling them they will get rich by selling these products, but, in reality, he's screwing them over and making most of the money himself.

John Marston:

If we are talking about early Red Dead 2 Marston, he still lives in his parent's basement and plays video games on his PC all day. He also watches Andrew Tate and would try to boss Abigail around and tell her he's an alpha male. (She'd slap him and tell him to get over himself) Late rdr2 and rdr1, he's grown out of that mindset and has become a working family man. Potentially also a welder, like I said for Arthur. But any high-paying physical job works.

I feel like Abigail, Mary-Beth, Karen, and Tilly would all have a mom group they host every week to discuss their child's newest achievements. Their husbands think that is all they do at the meetings, but they also have in-depth conversations about women's suffrage and how the world caters to men. They think of ways to better the world and bring more women together to discuss these topics and bring light to issues regarding women. The girls would run a pretty popular Facebook group where they let other women express their opinions on those topics. (Arthur is a part of the Facebook group and likes every post he sees and comments shit like, “You're doing great, ladies! Keep up the good work! 😁🥰👍”)

Sadie would probably occasionally attend these meetings (Although I dont see her having children, she would go for the cheap wine and to hang with her friends). Sadie would also go for the in-depth conversations and bring new thoughts to the table because she is a CEO or manager for a very successful company. She would share her experiences of what it's like to be on top of the men who work for her but still be looked down upon by them simply because of her gender. She would also probably share tips on that Facebook page on how to create a successful business without having to attend years of college and give tips for all stay-at-home moms who want to be more than just moms and wives. (She would also be the cool rich aunt)

Leopold Strauss:

He would do the same thing. He gives loans to people who he knows won't be able to pay back the money, and then when the bill comes, he'd ruin their lives and probably end up breaking up families/ relationships and send people to jail for not paying back the money in time.

Charles Smith:

I can see him being a park ranger or working in any conservation field. Potentially even a firefighter who deals with all of the forest fires that happen in places along the West Coast. He’d also be one to do something similar to what he did in the game, but he would work with the local native tribes against companies to try to win back their lands before it gets plowed over for an Amazon factory or something.

Susan Grimshaw:

I can see her being the mean substitute teacher who yells at everyone to get to work, and then when someone does something slightly wrong, she would yell at the whole class and be like, “In all of my years of teaching, I have never seen a class behave this badly.” Either that or she would work at the front desk of the business Sadie runs. Miss Grimshaw would NOT play with anyone who would try to be rude towards her.

Bill Williamson:

Ehem…a police officer. I feel like this one is self-explanatory. But he would mostly sit in his car and do nothing his entire shift. Occasionally pulling someone over for speeding. If they are a white dude, he'd would let them off with just a warning. Poor Lenny would probably get the ticket.

Lenny Summers:

I feel like he would be the one to graduate high school early and go to college as soon as possible. I dont know exactly what he would choose for his degree, but I feel like it would be something involving politics. Maybe that wouldn't be his major, but he would take a government class. Or Potentially going into journaling.

Hosea Matthews:

He's the retired grandpa who used to work in a factory where he made a surprising amount of money and was able to retire early. He spends most of his days walking up at 5 in the morning to watch the sunrise and read the morning paper. And he’ll spend every opportunity he gets to take his kids or grandkids fishing. And if you stay at his house overnight or for the weekend, he gives you a bowl of ice cream every night before bed and recounts every story he could think of that happened from the last time you saw him. (Some of them are surprisingly concerning, but he is one of those badass grandpas)

Sean Macguire:

Similar to John, Sean would spend most of his time gaming on his PC and arguing with children on COD or Fortnite. But he also works at a local bar as the bartender and won't hesitate to argue with the drunk assholes and would slap a bitch if needed. But he also embarrasses himself by flirting with women who will give him dirty looks or tell him that they are gay. (I feel like Karen would also work late-night shifts at the bar with him, but shes also taking online college classes because she wants to be a social worker)

Molly O’Shea:

Instagram and TikTok influencer 100%, and lots of brands like to sponsor her and send her free stuff (Mostly because of Dutch’s business.) and she posts videos of her and Dutch, and everyone in the comments freaks out about how he is grooming her because of their age difference but she denies it all and says that they are actually in love. But then she would post a video to that one sound, “My god this reminds me of when we were young.” And Molly be like 8, and Dutch be in his mid-to-late 20s.

Javier Escuella:

He’d be a musician. He would have started out in a shitty garage band with Sean and John or something, but then he’d realize he actually wants to be a serious musician while the other guys were just messing around. So he’d leave and make solo music that blows up, and he ends up going on tour, and making a lot of money and becoming hugely successful.

Reverend Swanson:

The preacher you always see in the corner of the bar Sean works at. And if you went up to him and started talking to him, he’d tell you the most profound things. He would tell you about his life when he was younger and what happened that made him lose hope, but he would motivate you to never give up. He’d be that person you meet by chance for a few seconds that you would never forget. Hosea probably invites him to go fishing with him from time to time. But instead of fishing, Swanson stares at the water ripples in silence. Hosea would let him sit in silence and let Swanson enjoy the company and the time to think while being sober.

Ooohh yessss cowboy! Hobie au sounds amazing!! And so relaxing like rdr2 (without all the death and sadness ofc) and all the peaceful scenery in it. I've been thinking about cowboy Hobie who has his own small ranch with rescued animals, a one legged cow, a blind chicken, and the bane love of his ranch is this one wild horse he saved before it got put down bc he's untameable. So he's out in the sun trying his best to tame him but it keeps bucking him off :(

i am going to say something to you guys and i don't want to come off as rude when i say it.

outlaw!james and rancher!james are two very different entities. i think many of you get them a bit mixed up. which is okay!!! they both wear cowboy hats and ride horses. but i've gotten a few asks that aren't all that linear with the au's, obviously just mixed up with eachother, so i just wanna clarify!!

outlaw!james is: in the late 1800s, on wanted posters posted outside of train stations and sheriffs' offices, lives on the run with a gang of outlaws (criminals, murderers (even if they don't like to believe it), robbers, horse rustlers, etc.), lives in a camp with the gang, was orphaned pretty damn young and became an outlaw because of it, and so on and so forth. basically think arthur morgan if you've played rdr2.

rancher!james/ranch hand!james/cowboy!james is: in the normal timeline, just not a rockstar but instead a guy who works on a ranch or owns a ranch. depends on when you're thinking of him. he is not on the run from authorities!!! (lol) though he's spent a night or two in jail because of public intoxication or getting in bar fights.

fic: on a pillow of bluebonnets, in a blanket made of stars (Willow, Kit/Jade, E)

Kit's saving up; she says it with a gleam in her eye one night by the fire. For a ranch of her own. With horses and space to just be free.

You gonna run it all by yourself? Jade had asked, teasing. The way Kit's face fell told her it was the wrong sort of question.

The thing she didn't say is that there's something beautiful about the way Kit dreams. Something that makes her want to follow, all caught up in the stars in Kit's eyes.

(Or: the vaguely RDR2-flavoured cowboy AU no one asked for)

Felt extra need to sketch something soft and happy

!!!EPILOGUE SPOILER ALERT!!!

So here she is!! Lottie is a little irish girl. Micah kills her parents in the epilogue of rdr2. It's when Sadie finally finds any trace of him.

//Oh, yeah, btw it's an AU me and my gf made, Arthur don't have TB (just really bad chest infection) and so he lives after the fight with Micah because Kieran (Arthur insisted on Kieran to go with Charles and help him with the indians for a while. He felt it'll be safer than at the camp) is too worried and asks Charles to check on Arthur together.

So now they live on John's ranch together :D//

Arthur refused to take any revenge on Micah, but asked about the girl. Found and took her to the ranch. Now she's Arthur's and Kieran's daughter :3

Anywho, Im gonna have to ask you to bare with me on this one. It's more of a fic prompt than anything, but I still think it's a cool idea.

AU for Injustice where, instead of Hal becoming a Yellow Lantern and Barry siding with Clark, Hal is called back to Oa (alongside the other Green Lanterns on Earth)

Barry meanwhile tries to lay low with Wally in Central, effectively leaving the League and keeping to himself in his home city. He's still the Flash and does his job, but doesn't leave Central City.

One day though, Clark comes into town and does one of his speeches, ultimately actually turnig Central City against the Flash.

Both this and Hal's orders coming in happen at around the same time. So, he takes Barry and Wally with him to Oa. I'd say this would be decision backed by Bruce? Idk. It's hard to think about, especially with Barry's dedication to Central City, but with enough push from the ppl being against him, I can see it happening.

Anyways, here's where things get wild.

After arriving on Oa and getting his sector reassigned, we find out that Hal is to be in charge of the planet where the events of Slime Rancher take place.

Long story short, the fic would br exploring the 4-5 years Hal and Barry spend on Far, Far Range with Barry & Wally ranching slimes and Hal monitoring the sector.

Throw in some retrosepctive thoughts, lore from the game (slime rancher), some moments of fluff where Hal visits Wally & Barry after a mission, a couple other spicy things, and I think it's a really cool premise

I am not sorry at all but I literally know NOTHING about slime rancher and this is what came to my head when I read the sentence involving the words "barry and hal slime rancher" and poorly scribbled this on my phone while the rdr2 house building song repeatedly played in my head now live with it

Also Wally is like 10 here for no reason but who cares this image feels like a scuffed, cursed version of the infamous little house on the prairie halbarry au fanfic anyway

Sweet as Sugar - Part 2

RDR2 Modern AU - Arthur and you finally get to talk properly and he finds out what it really means to be a Sugar Daddy. Is he willing to take the plunge?

Ping!

You picked up your phone. It had been a whole day since you had sent and received a notification that he had got your message. But Arthur hadn’t responded, so you had assumed your initial interest had dropped dead on arrival! Maybe you weren’t his type. Still, you couldn’t pretend you weren’t a little upset, but you had shrugged off your disappointment and messaged your previous flames.

You opened up the app message centre and were surprised to see it was Arthur who had messaged you! You lay down excitedly on your bed, almost feeling like a giddy school girl, rather than a grown woman who had to work out this transaction. You couldn’t immediately ask for money, but you needed to know if Arthur was just going to waste your time.

The first thing you noticed, as you clicked open the personal messages, was that Arthur had changed his name to ‘Arthur Morgan’. You grinned; you had quite liked the original name.

Arthur Morgan: Hey there, sorry I didn’t reply earlier, weren’t a good time. Thanks for your message. My dog’s name is Copper and yep, I live outside Blackwater on a ranch. But I’m not opposed to going into town. Truth be told, my friend Sean signed me up to this, so I don’t know much about being a sugar daddy!

Your smiled faltered as you read the message. Dammit! This man hadn’t even wanted to be on this stupid app. Doubtless he was about to tell you he appreciated you contacting him, but this wasn’t what he wanted.

Arthur Morgan: But I’ve tried every dating app under the sun or what feels like it! And maybe this is worth a shot, but think you’d have to teach me to be a sugar daddy. If that’s ok?

You beamed and practically clutched the phone to your chest, this was ideal! You weren’t going to take advantage of Arthur, but some more experienced men might be less inclined to help you out. If you could speed up the process then maybe he would give you some cash, rather than something you’d have to sell.

You: I can certainly try my best. Hahaha! I guess Sean picked out your name then. I was wondering where the ‘Big boy-Cowboy’ part had got to!

Arthur Morgan: Yes, not sure if I felt comfortable being called ‘Big-boy, cowboy’ whatever it was. So went with my own name. You been a sugar baby before then?

You: Yes. But I’ve not been on the app for some time.

Arthur Morgan: Why did you decide to use the app again?

You paused, thinking about whether to tell him straight away about the difficult circumstances you were in or if you should try to be more romantic. Some men liked the idea you wanted to be looked after, but you weren’t sure if Arthur felt that way if it wasn’t really his choice to be on a sugar daddy app. You did get the sense that he might appreciate your honesty.

You: Truth be told, I’m not doing so great financial-wise. I work as a waitress and got stiffed on my tips, soooo… I was mostly on here to see if I could do some art for my previous acquaintances.

Arthur Morgan: Oh! I’m sorry to hear that, customers can be real dicks. I saw your art on your profile, think you got some real talent, though I don’t know much about art. I draw a bit, but it’s nothing to write home about! Sure lots of folk would love to have your artwork on their walls.

That certainly interested you. You hadn’t thought Arthur would be the type to do any kind of art and in a way that definitely made him more appealing to you.

You: Aw thank you! Really? I’d love to see your art 😊

Arthur Morgan: So this sugar daddy thing… got any advice and tips? So far I’m not seeing how this is different from any other dating app.

You: Well, it’s really based on what you’re hoping for. I’ve been a sugar baby before and I think it’s a good idea to lay out our expectations before we get going. I won’t be pressured into something I don’t feel comfortable with.

Arthur: Good, glad to hear it. But expectations? What kind of expectations?

You: You know, do you just want to be seen with me at parties or events, do you want me to go on dates with you…

You hesitated and bit your lip before writing the next part. You didn’t usually offer sex, unless you were really attracted to your partner or if they asked whether you would be willing to do so. With some of your sugar daddies you had and some you had declined, though usually it meant the relationship cooled off.

You: Or do you also want a physical relationship. I’m not opposed to holding hands, kissing, etc on dates, but it would be good to know your boundaries and if you’re wanting more than just that.

Arthur hesitated before typing out a reply. Truth be told he wasn’t quite sure what he wanted. Affection, probably. Someone to talk to, though thus far he was liking the conversation, he liked how honest and upfront you were. He was very much done with playing games and trying to figure people out, if they said what they meant or if he was meant to pick up on some mysterious clue! Physical affection though… Arthur wasn’t going to deny it, he had quite the sexual appetite with his partners in the past. And while he would like to meet you in person to make sure the same attraction and chemistry lasted, he didn’t want to pressure you into that.

Copper was sitting beside him on the couch and butted his head into Arthur’s hand. Arthur chuckled and stroked the dog’s velvety ears, then rubbed and patted the dog’s head. ‘Yer a good boy,’ he muttered.

Arthur: I don’t really attend too many parties, ranch working doesn’t leave much time for it. But I like the idea of going out with you to places…

He should’ve reconsidered sending that, but he’d already pressed the sent button. ‘Going out with you to places’! Talk about an inelegant buffoon! He tried not to dwell on it too much as he quickly typed out:

Arthur: And if things go well, then I wouldn’t mind getting physical. If that’s ok with you. Ball completely in your court, you say no then we’ll just leave it at the dating/kissing side of things. I don’t like pressuring folk into doing things they’re not comfortable with.

It felt like an eternity before Arthur saw the three little dots flash across the screen to tell him you were typing your response. Had he been too honest? Maybe you really disliked the idea of having any kind of relations with him. He wasn’t exactly much to look at.

You: I think we’re on the same page, so that’s good. And of course, part of the relationship is the transactional nature of it.

Arthur: So I’ve got to give you stuff? Money?

You: Can be. Though most Sugar Daddies give gifts, rather than money immediately.

Arthur: Thought you said money was tight right now.

You: I can manage, I just need to make sure I’ve got everything covered, hence why I’m offering to do some artwork for others.

Arthur: So why do you want to have a proper Sugar Daddy thing with me?

You: Because I liked your profile, you didn’t seem the type to really be on an app like this and I thought you sounded appealing.

Arthur: Well, guess I’m not really the type to be on this app. But Sean didn’t give me much of a choice! Appealing, huh? Think I can really brag about that to the boys. I’m appealing!

You: I’m sorry! I’m a bit flustered. My brain isn’t working!

Arthur chuckled. He wondered what you looked like right now, were you flushed? Hiding your face in your hands? He bet you looked pretty cute regardless. He shifted himself till he was resting against the bag of the couch and Copper was lying against his legs.

You: I know it’s a bit unconventional, usually I would spend more time getting to know someone before asking. But do you think we could meet up and go on a date?

Arthur: I take it I’ll be the one paying?

You: If you really don’t like the idea of being a Sugar Daddy, then I’m happy to bid you farewell and wish you all the best. But that’s generally how it will go for the entirety of our relationship, you’ll pay for me.

Arthur paused to consider. He had plenty of money, both from the inheritance he had received from his fathers and the horse breeding programme that the ranch had. Money wasn’t the issue. He felt oddly nervous about the idea. He supposed all relationships were transactional in some sense, but to have this one really based solely on the money he could provide wasn’t something he was used to. But then he liked you. You both had clicked straight away and he already liked talking to you. He flicked back over to your profile and admired your smile.

‘Punchin’ well above your weight, you old fool!’ he said to himself. He shook his head slightly and then went back over to message centre. He thought about where he could take you. He wasn’t really one for fancy restaurants or spa hotels! Places like that made him feel distinctly out of place and uncomfortable. Usually they judged his appearance anyway; tough old boots, worn leather jackets and the rolled-up sleeves on his shirt marked him as an outsider. Those places never seemed to really think he had enough money to be there.

Arthur: I know it might be unconventional, but I know a great BBQ place. Fancy it?

You: Sure, sounds great!

Arthur: Don’t judge the name, ok. It’s called Pearson’s Pig. Shall I meet you there at 7pm on Friday?

You: Hahaha! I’m not judging! I’ll see you there on Friday.

Arthur Morgan Horse Girl AU

Just posting a general list of ideas for an RDR2 AU that follows the typical horse girl book/movie tropes (not that RDR2 doesn't already do that, but this would be a modern setting haha). I have so many WIP ideas that it's just fun to think about and not actually write sometimes.

Hosea runs a horse rescue ranch just down the road from the Van der Linde Stables, a premier facility for riders wanting to compete at high level eventing

Hosea mostly does this to raise awareness about adopting rescue horses, usually putting on a trick shows at major events, where he gets Silver Dollar to do various funny tricks like sitting, stealing his hat, and playing dead

Arthur is his adopted kid who also works with rescue horses, turning them into eventing horses after Dutch taught him dressage and let him out onto his cross country practice jumps

Cross country is Arthur's one true love and the reason he switched from Western to English riding, and he thinks eventing makes for good, well-rounded horses

Dutch thinks Arthur could go professional, but Arthur's goal is to rehabilitate horses and likes to joke that he's the world's most experienced novice competitor

Micah rides at the Van der Linde Stables and occasionally crosses paths with Arthur at competitions, and Micah makes fun of Arthur for not having a $100,000 horse

Arthur thinks Baylock deserves a better rider, because Baylock should have moved up the levels by now

Hamish eventually convinces Arthur to try moving up the levels himself, letting him borrow Buell to practice since he was originally trained for jumping (Hamish mainly uses him for dressage, and they have a chance to go to some major events if Buell didn't spook at everything, so Arthur taking him out on cross country could be good for him)

Buell and Arthur kick Micah's butt at prelim level

Eventually, Dutch and Hamish convince Arthur to participate in the Retired Racehorse Project, if he's so determined to only work with rescues, because thoroughbreds make for pretty good eventers

Enter Boadicea

Boadicea and Arthur kick Micah's butt as soon as they reach his level

And finally, in true horse girl movie fashion, Arthur finds out that Micah has been using bad training techniques on Baylock that almost gets him hurt, so Arthur steals Baylock

Hosea is proud of his kid, and Dutch kicks Micah out of his barn for good
