Oh, I didn't know you were (or used to be) a Danganronpa fan! They are fairly different works, but Danganronpa and Umineko do share DNA, being both derived from more classic works. Funny how you got to experience detective novel style stories through anime aesthetics. You might as well go and play Ace Attorney as well.
yeah i was big on danganronpa back in the day (it was my media of choice i jumped ship to during the 2013 homestuck megapause fandom exodus) and while it's not something i actively think of much these days it was formative on me during my teenage years and it does hold a fond place in my heart. i tried ace attorney a couple times but it never really stuck with me the same way danganronpa did - i think an anime murder mystery has to be a specific level of deranged for it to capture my attention lol.

SHUICHI SAIHARA from DANGANRONPA V3
Tumblr media Tumblr media
JUSTIFICATIONS:
There's a freetime event in the game where another character demands she trans her gender and I can't help but wonder what would have happened had she agreed." - Anonymous
"She very much reads as a closeted trans girl to me.
She is very weird about entering the women's bathroom. She's supposed to be a detective, but is letting a sign deter her, whereas Kyoko, the detective from the first game, doesn't give any shits about going into the men's bathroom. She gets very flustered about going in one near the end of the game, to the point where it made me think that she was having her own internal battle that she did not want to unpack at that moment.
There's also an optional Love Hotel scene with Gonta where Gonta has Shuichi fill the role of a lady so he could practice being a gentleman. At some point, Gonta stopped that and just referred to Shuichi as Shuichi, and she gets visibly jarred by this. "Am I not supposed to be a lady?" Is something she says. Wow.. maybe she didn't wanna drop that role for some reason..... hmmm...
She also just has those vibes about her in general. One thing is for sure.. she is not cis, it's just a matter of what type of not cis she is. She reminds me a lot of my best friend, who is transfem, so obviously Shu is transfem to me as well. :]" - Anonymous

Round 1 of preliminaries, group 10
Tumblr media
The first two places get a place on the bracket
Little reminder: there will be 2 more rounds of preliminaries, the losing blorbos of this poll still have 2 chances of getting in the official bracket
Propaganda under the cut
Nagisa Ran (Ensemble Stars)
"- autistic - grew up very isolated - nonbinary. to me. - they had a speech impediment veeeery similar to the one i used to have and their current speaking patterns are very similar to the way i speak - we both have a special interest in geology - i'd list more but the rest are just autism symptoms so. uhhh"
Waver Velvet (Fate series /The Case Files of Lord El-Melloi II)
No propaganda
Shuichi Saihara (Danganronpa V3)
"sorry for submitting a danganronpa character but hear me out!! there's many reasons shuichi is a relatable character, such as: 1. he's def lgbtq+ actually. in the free time events with kaito momota (another male character), shuichi's inner monologue says "only someone like him could tell me what i need to hear." before he internally scolds himself saying he "shouldn't talk about another boy like that" 2. self doubt. throughout the game, he doubts his detective skills a lot. well, in earlier chapters. he grows out of it but yk. he feels like he isn't a "real detective" n all 3. a. autism. throughout the entire prologue and chapter 1, he wears a hat to avoid eye contact. while there is an actual reason that isn't autism, i still think that's autism behavior. also he seemingly knows a lot about true crime and at one point, when another character brings up the victorian era, he responds by mentioning jack the ripper. 4. he's very sad. chapter 1? cries. chapter 3? cries. chapter 5? cries. chapter 6? cries. he might've cried other times i don't remember though. although it is fair bc people are dying. but even outside of the death, he is sad. refer to number 2. also he feels like he shouldn't have solved the case that made him the ultimate detective. (there are reasons for that. also linked to the hat.) and more"
Opossums (real life)
"Nocturnal creatures that just like wanna chill and eat, plus they have to lay down when really stressed, they are like me for real."
Midori Takamine (Ensemble Stars!! Music)
"- literally just some guy that gets dragged into things (accidentally became an idol somehow) - his only real interests are mascot characters and vegetables + he finds talking to people bothersome - all of his friends are extroverted or very friendly while midori is just… there. - cringefail loser who can’t talk to people without being nervous despite being a 5’10 giant and an idol (179cm), only really talks a lot when discussing mascots - depressed, just straight up clinical depression but its ok cause he’s working on it and doesn’t let it get him too down"
Seven of nine (Star Trek)
"seven of nine is a big ball of identity questioning in one person. she literally has a whole section on her wiki page titled "identity crises". mood. as a child she's snatched up and made part of a hivemind, all these cyborg augments put into her, the usual scifi stuff. but her story begins when she's freed. against her will, even if it's ultimately for the best. she has no idea how to relate to these people, how to speak or act or dress or sound. big autism mood. big trans mood. big gay mood, because she has no idea what anyone is supposed to do when dating and it turns out she's into women and ends up with a girlfriend so it's no wonder she couldn't connect to all the lessons about boyfriends and the attempt to date a man! multiple times she's forced to assimilate and act more "human" and change her name but she won't! and the people who make an effort to understand end up important found family and friends. and she ends up in control of her own life and a captain!! legend."

Thoughts on MDA: Rain Code so far as I approach the end of Chapter 2
(...which is the game's third full-length chapter...)
I'll start with SPOILER-FREE thoughts before shifting into SPOILER MODE after the cut.
Tumblr media
Yuma is so spineless and unable to stand up for himself or his own sense of what's right/wrong that he gives me some "Early Part of V3" Shuichi vibes. The poor bitch... I feel like this might come to bite him in the ass before he'll manage to toughen up.
However, it's really other characters I've met who remind me the MOST of specific Danganronpa characters. Of course the game is still in its early going, so there's plenty of time for most characters to get more development/focus. But right now, THE EXAMPLES: Take Sonia Nevermind, but imagine a woman from a powerful noble family who is even MORE clueless about reality because she lives in even MORE of her own insular bubble, and that's Fubuki Clockford. She's Sonia²,if you will. Zilch Alexander? He's reminiscient of Byakuya "Twogami" — he starts off giving you the snobby egotism of real Togami before swiftly displaying that surprisingly kind undercurrent of the Imposter's version. And one particularly weird example is Vivia Twilight, who is giving me strong echoes of a Danganronpa spinoff character. To be specific, Vivia strongly resembles the, er, "public face" of Takumi Hijirihara from Danganronpa Gaiden: Killer Killer. Y'know... the super-lowkey almost-sleepy guy who is constantly cramming himself into tight spaces that he finds comforting?
Tumblr media
Panels such as this could easily be describing Vivia Twilight. They're even both detectives!
3. As has been pointed out by others, Rui Komatsuzaki really just straight-up gave Halara Nightmare the same face and hairstyle as Chiaki Nanami. At least Halara has a different hair color, I guess? And I suppose a lot of Komatsuzaki's characters share similar faces, which isn't uncommon among Japanese manga/anime-style artists. But it's still pretty striking to see Tall, Stern Nanami stroll up if you're familiar enough with the DR characters.
Beyond this cut, there will be spoilers for Master Detective Archives: Rain Code Chapters 0 through Chapter 2.
But nothing beyond that.
4. At the risk of stating the obvious: Yuma totally entered his pact with Shinigami because he wanted a "Forte" power, right? That's where that part of the backstory is obviously going.
5. We're still a long way from understanding Yuma's backstory and/or how he got into this contract with Shinigami, but we have a few hints at least. We know Yuma found a book in the WDO headquarters taht contained Shinigami, and it's been implied that maybe she's contracted with detectives in the past. But despite how their pact is core to the gameplay loop of Rain Code, I don't think it's going to turn out being a good thing for Yuma. Lil' Cocoa-Head keeps getting himself cornered in situations where he or someone else will die unless he can solve a mystery right fucking now, which means he keeps relying on Shinigami to save his ass, which means we KEEP KILLING THE CULPRITS by the end of each chapter, which is a really fucking bad trend that is going to eventually bite us in the ass for sure. The natural, obvious result of this is that Yuma will become the prime suspect for the extremely sudden deaths of all these killers. But I think it might go even harder than that... because what if, by the game's end (or maybe in a future sequel), we have to direct Shinigami (or some other spirit if we play as a different character later on/in a later game) to reap Yuma's own soul for his crimes? I feel like that's the obvious endgame here — Yuma is so incredibly complicit in these killings that he could be argued to be their murderer, and that's going to come full circle on him. But I guess we'll need a lot more time to tell on that front.
6. The loss of the Chapter 0 characters still kinda hurts, because so many of them were fascinating. Pucci Lavmin in particular was unlike any other character we've ever seen in Kodaka's ouvre, and it sucks that she was taken out of the mix without us getting any chance to develop or explore her further. My hope is that eventually we'll see some kind of AU side-story DLC or game that lets us dive deeper into even the deceased characters... I mean, Danganronpa always did that, and Rain Code DOES have its own Season Pass after all :P
7. I really thought for a while there that Chapter 2 would end with us having to accept that the real culprit was the very person we were attempting to exonerate and free from the Peacekeepers' sinister clutches. It doesn't go that route, but I feel like that's a twist that could (and SHOULD) come up in the future. Before this game is over, I expect to see a chapter where the real culprit is the very person we're trying to prove innocent. Can't wait to see how wrong I am! :P

What do you make of Tsumugi's cospox?
Cospox, huh? I know it's a source of debate in the V3 fandom, the veracity of it and all.
Personally I don't really think any which way about it. I have rough ideas surrounding it, regarding stuff like author intent and whatnot, so I guess I can unpack that here.
My take is that the likelihood that it was intended as one of Tsumugi's lies is low. The discovery that the cast of V3 is made up of real people and the characters from Hope's Peak are fictional hinges on cospox being real, so it's hard for me to believe it was envisioned as meant to be fake from the get-go in the story writing stage.
That doesn't mean I don't think it's garbage though. It's one of those dumb things that reminds you V3 and Danganronpa as a whole is set in some kinda fantasy world, y'know?
Maybe it would've worked better if Tsumugi just said something like "it's against my morals to cosplay real people..." Then you'd end up with less dumb pink-rashed-shenaniganry and a much more intentional-seeming ambiguity surrounding how real the Hope's Peak cast is v.s. V3's cast, since the evidence hinges on Tsumugi's words alone: something we know for sure can very well be a lie. The thought of Tsumugi yelling "even with my morals, it's fine for me to cosplay these people because they're fictional!" strikes me as excitingly dramatic, too. Much more so than "well I won't turn pink when I cosplay these people because they're FAKE haha" (paraphrased for effect)
It also gives more of an opportunity for the survivors to speculate afterwards about whether the Hope's Peak cast could be real after all... That would've made the ending of V3 more palatable to a lot of people who loved the previous two games, I bet. Directly presenting the possibility that the Hope's Peak cast could still be real in the V3 universe instead of leaving the possibility to fan speculation would've softened the blow.
(thanks for the ask! As you might notice I quite like talking about V3; helps to keep my mind on my V3 related projects too haha)

The die young animatic! I saw that in my youtube recommendations like a while ago and then I started it, was like “this seems cool” and then did something else and forgot to ever finish it so thanks for reminding me, that was really fun to watch!
And like Kaito and Kokichi’s relationship is just so good! Like I personally think I like them more platonically but I do really like oumota a good bit. I don’t really indulge in too much fan content for it though. But like you put everything about the hanger situation together so perfectly??? It’s so sad. The killing game is so sad. It just brings out some of the absolute worst in someone and makes them so scared and then that someone is just dead??? They’re never getting better? They can’t heal? They can’t live? They can’t learn to be happier? They’re just gone? And like these people could’ve had such different relationships, these people could’ve been friends? If they had just known each other?? And like my heart is broken. Shattered into little pieces. Why must I always get into such messed up stuff and get so attached to the characters? Why do I do this to myself? Why?????
Also, do you have any fanfic recs for like post game simulation stuff? Hearing you talk about it has now made me in the mood to read some
sooo the bad part about asking me for fic recs is that. i dont actually read a lot of fanfiction. i just Make it when i DO read fanfiction its normally stuff that my friends give me so i dont normally Puruse Around its like my biggest sin as a fan creator is that i love talking about how fanfiction is beautiful and that people should keep writing fanfiction and people should stop making fun of people who write fanfiction but i very rarely get the urge to go snooping around for fanfiction myself...
SO! i turned to micah kaedyu for this!
therefore you and me by unseeliekey from what i have seen and heard from micah is amazing and gorgeous even. its unfinished but micah loves the shit out of it and has reread it many a time and loses her mind EVERY SINGLE TIME. micah is generally unseeliekey's biggest fan. he really loves everything that they put out. they are unfortunately not in the fandom anymore so this is probably not going to be updated any time soon and remains unfinished FOREVER! but its still really good. i trust micah's judgement for the most part
steps from your pulse by kaylenep SOOOO fun and has sleepy shit mixed in here so you know that i like it. this is a really sweet fic im glad that micah sent it to me
and that is about it. there was another one but i didnt really like it so im not going to recommend it. it just. it was so Hopeless. and i dont like hopeless narratives or endings which is ironic because i like danganronpa and specifically love v3 the most

IDK if you're familiar with the ending of Danganronpa V3, or just, the Danganronpa franchise in general, but let's just say that despite the controversy of itself, it reminds me a lot of what you've theorized about the journey of Wally and CO. realizing the unreality of their world
i was a danganronpa hater for many years, and while i have no intention of playing any of the games even now, nezumiVA's beautiful retrospectives have allowed me to see what others saw in the franchise back in the day. which is to say that I See What You Mean.

New anon here!! I don't get to talk about my thoughts on V3 a lot but I think it's a pretty good discussion topic, I'd like to talk here if that's okay!!
Minor TW for mentions of self harm, discussing 'old' Danganronpa fandom.
I'll be very honest here, I like V3 significantly less then the original 2, I'm excluding UDG from that because I also just don't like it. I used to really hate it, but I've come to terms with it by now.
I think V3 had a lot of potential for good meta commentary, they could've used it to address how people can let themselves be consumed by the media they enjoy. At the time it came out the Danganronpa fandom was pretty close to it's heydey, and it was INFAMOUS for the eccentric, borderline obsessive fans. I think we like to forget that people In Real Life were harming themselves over these games, and for good reason. It's very upsetting to think about, and it gives other fans a "bad rap".
This might be in part what V3 was trying to address, the fans who took their love of the games too far, but to me it just didn't hit home. The overarching plot never really connects anything, it's also very loosely put together, and by the end of the game I'm not really asking "What's going on here?"
A big defense I see of this is that it's intentional. They made a game that felt more soulless as a type of commentary in itself, the death of creativity. I think that's a good interpretation to have! Let people think what they want, but it doesn't really sit well with me personally. Now this is all my opinion of course, it just bugs me a lot that most of the major praise for the game I see comes from very subjective interpretation. That's a bad way of putting it. I guess what I mean is that if that's what the developers intended, they could have and should have shown it more, given it more obvious story beats. You can write a vague story and leave things up to interpretation, a lot of really good stories are just that. There's a limit, though. Just implying most of the story doesn't make it a good writing.
Let your audience connect the dots, yes. Let them come to conclusions, but don't rely on them to completely decode the narrative.
There's also the lying mechanic. Not just in trials, but just the whole motif throughout the game. I really enjoyed that for the most part, it was a new and interesting dichotomy compared to the old Hope vs. Despair, which was running itself a little dry. It would've stayed good. If the ending wasn't such a, for lack of better term, dumpster fire. First of all, I don't think Tsumugi makes for a good mastermind. I understand that she was meant to blend in, be a background character, but even in previous games background characters had something. Tsumugi was just boring. A real corporate plant, which could've been a good twist if, again, there was better foreshadowing. Then the elephant in the room, "It was all fiction!" Very bold choice. I personally don't enjoy being reminded that the fiction I'm consuming is fiction. I use it for escapism, I think a lot of people do. Danganronpa especially works because, while it's dark and pretty gruesome, it never really... feels like the real world. Outside of THH, there's always a tangible level of absurdism. Even in THH, it's not as prominent as in other parts of the series, but it's there. I mean Mondo gets turned into BUTTER. That's fucking ridiculous. Point is, Danganronpa doesn't really feel like it's trying to take place in our world. It's a world like ours, but it's not.
This is part of where V3 really falls apart for me. It really tries to keep the tangible absurdity, there's a (fully sapient??) robot, six talking robot bears, students trapped in a giant vivarium esc dome. None of this would happen in real life! Then, it flips a switch, "This is the real world! Danganronpa drove people crazy, made them do bad things!" And they're right, it did. In OUR world. In reality. Danganronpa is NOT reality, and trying to force that tangibility into V3 almost feels.. shameful. Like the team is judging you for enjoying the media THEY created.
But in the end, not even that matters. Because Tsumugi could be lying. None of what she says is provable. Most of what she says is deceitful at best and just. False at worst. The only proof she has that this takes place in another canon is a SKIN RASH that nobody alive was even there to see. Hell. We're shown a flashback that DIDN'T HAPPEN.
So in the end, what was the point? We're left with more questions than answers, an unsolved mystery, 80% of our cast dead, and an entire franchise almost in shambles (the game also came out on the tailend of DR3, which wasn't done well either, so double whammy in the badly executed department). If you take it at face value, then a beloved series that many people adored suddenly means something completely different (if anything at all) to those who adored it. Or, you love V3, and think it was a good meta commentary, in which case good for you I'm glad you enjoyed it!
If you DON'T take it at face value, then you really don't get any answers. Was Danganronpa fiction? Was it reality? Do the survivors go on to end the killing games? Were there more killing games to begin with? We don't know. We might not ever know.
Side tangent, I know I could just ignore all this. Choose to believe that Tsumugi was lying, or ignore the game altogether, you're absolutely right hypothetical protester. I'm just moderately insufferable about this. Danganronpa is all around not the best written but the first two games were very dear to me and shockingly got me through a lot? I was exposed to it young 😭 but I have media literacy now and enjoy picking the franchise apart and V3 is definitely one of the weaker links for me. Back to the main point.
I understand leaving things open, letting people come to their own conclusions, but you can only leave so many mysteries before people get upset. It's me, I'm people. If I had even a few more answers, something solid, I'd be happier. I won't get that though, because they predicated their game on a lie with no truth.
Bonus that none of this would've been an issue for me if V3 just didn't lean so heavily on world building for it's storytelling.
I'm sorry this was so long I just. I have so many thoughts on V3. I feel it's another case of "Danganronpa having an idea with very solid potential to tackle a serious and/or meaningful topic and woefully mishandling it."
I also have a lot to say about Kokichi but this is already a lot.
I hope you're having a wonderful day thank you for coming to my TED Talk shdhdb
(I asked people’s opinion about V3 a long while ago and this is one of the responses.)
I’m completely blown away by your response as it articulated my frustration with the game so very well. The last trial is indeed a completely non-statement. I think just as you said, and I’m simply rephrasing in my own way: the game mixes up the definitions of Truth, Lie, and Fiction. Fiction can sometimes contain Truth within its Lies, Fiction is so much more nuanced and complicated than just Truth and Lies, centuries of literatures have proved this fact to us (even trial one has taught this to us); the unrealistic and the realistic intermingle, making the critique doesn’t map onto the actual real world — we are not like the in-game audience, we know for sure that danganronpa is a work of fiction and the students are actually fake characters living their fictional lives — Kodaka here is making a straw-man argument by projecting his actual audience onto his fictional audience and calling the former dumb for believing too deeply into his fiction, which he not only created, but also is profiting out of. I might be ok with the former, but his lack of acknowledgement of the latter renders the entire scheme rather insincere and not as self-aware as it wants to be.
Tsumugi is a bad mastermind because she is not the mastermind. She is not Junko who single-handedly facilitated the Despairs and the killing game. She is indeed a corporate plant, a member of the crowd, the true mastermind is the in-game audience who facilitated this reality show.
This might be just my own personal cynicism, but I think the shifted direction might be a result of 1) the lead artist Komatsuzaki’s departure from the game (leaving Kodaka alone to design the characters might be a bad move) and 2) the writer Kodaka tries to be like Eva’s director Anno and show his cynicism to his audience. Of course this is just my personal guess.
Thank you for the response and sorry for the long time it took for me to get to show everyone’s thoughts. I want to respond to y’all as well, so allow me to take a bit more time.

Ok so I saw ur posts about danganronpa s and even though you won't play it I HIGHLY reccomed you watch nagito and korekiyo's interaction I'm pretty sure you'll find something of interest, let's just say a certain person makes a very brief appearance
What a lovely recommendation! It made me smile that someone would come recommend me an interaction between two of my skrunklies, but I had a pretty good idea who that certain person might be.
I'm surprised I'd never heard about this before. This is probably on me, since I had Danganronpa S tags filtered for a really long time, but I did tend to look at it anyway when I browsed the Korekiyo tag, so I'm still a little bit surprised.
(Like I said jokingly when I watched the video earlier today, "maybe the "korekiyo stan" "danganronpa s hater" venn diagram is more of a circle than I thought".)
I'd have loved a video with the Japanese dub, but this is what I was shown!
youtube
I mentioned in the past that I thought Sister might never make an appearance in Danganronpa S, because there are no sprites in Korekiyo's swimsuit set that seem to represent her. I guess I neglected to take into account the amount of events with his regular clothes, and the possibility that she might make... the smallest of appearances, with no change in sprites. (Show us more Shinguuji boobie, cowards!!)
If I may just comment on this event, which may be the only DRS event I've watched in full, Komaeda's dialogue seems really unnatural and forced. The things he says seem interesting enough to explore with his character, but the event is rushed and the way he speaks doesn't feel quite right. This doesn't give me a much better impression of the game, being that comparatively, fanfiction is free and some writers do a surprisingly good job at portraying canon characters, which doesn't appear to be a given here. That being said; "did Korekiyo seem different rn? ... ... ...No I'm probably just feverish and wrong. :)" is so ME and it's ICONIC and it's my EVERYTHING and
Tumblr media Tumblr media
meeeeeeee.
@purplepadlock mentioned that this ending also looked like a reference to the Despair Disease which is famously another one of my skrunklies. I'm not so sure about that, because this event is about Komaeda having a cold in the first place, but being that the writing already seems a bit off and awkward to me... it could be that this was the intention here, or that the Japanese text does it a little better.* Either way, 1. still an iconic line, and 2. seeing Komaeda mention being sick in this room at the very start also reminded me of the Despair Disease right away.
Enough with my having caught the SDR2 Disease of making everything about Komaeda - this appearance of Sister is an interesting concept, though I'm disappointed by the idea that... this is all we get. It brings up a lot of questions; one thing that was never made too clear was how Sister worked as a tulpa. That she'd appear here, after Korekiyo tried to leave the hospital because of the bad memories it brought back, seems reminiscent of the way an alter in a system with Dissociative Identity Disorder may be triggered and brought to the front by a specific setting. I am, however, of the opinion that Shinguuji is definitely not meant to be a DID system, seeing as DID was already featured in a previous game, in which it was mentioned by name, and it would seem very weird for it not to be at all mentioned this time around.* Plus, his narrative is nowhere close to one of DID, and as bad as Fukawa's representation was, the childhood trauma as described by Touko to be the cause of Shou's existence seems too accurate to be thrown out the window for a new writing of the disorder years later. Thus, the question is: is she always here with him? Does she share his body at all times? How frequent are the instances of Sister talking in his stead? This was already very confusing in V3, and this event does not help.
Regardless, more instances of Korekiyo's odd "suddenly appearing more feminine" are interesting to me - because if we saw it often enough, we might be able to get an idea of its parameters. If this is its only instance in DRS, it's still not enough, even ignoring that I'd rather this had been done better in V3 in the first place.
*I recall seeing a Japanese tumblr user call out an event featuring Hinata and Komaeda for coming across completely differently in Japanese and English. The English translation made Komaeda seem creepier and forceful, whereas the original text had Hinata be the one to contribute certain elements of the event.
*As a note, I have a vague memory of seeing that Shou and Shinguuji had interactions as fellow serial killers, but 1. I might be making this up, and 2. I wonder if a comparison was ever drawn between their respective multiplicity. I remember talking about this... I don't remember any of the details.

Alright I’m gonna try something
Milly’s Raincode Playthrough Post
New to Tumblr so idk this will work but I’m gonna try to keep editing/updating this post as I play through Raincode with my thoughts and stuff. Full spoilers for the game but I’ll mark stuff as I go along. If this works out I’ll do it for other media i experience too! Feel free to check back occasionally as I update this post.
So I think that barrier means now you have to actively click through to read so I should be able to start typing spoils now.
Chapter 0 -
This one’ll be a bit different since I already completed it by the time of typing this but I enjoyed this chapter! It’s been a while since I’ve played danganronpa or watched akudama drive so I forgot how,, unhinged Kodaka was. I also didn’t really follow the marketing material so I thought we were legitimately being introduced to the main cast LOL. Melami’s design was really cute… Yuma and Shinigami’s relationship reminds me of Ryuki and Tama’s from AINI, so that’s to say I enjoyed them.
When first broke into the infirmary I felt like there was some fuckery going on cause the body burned too quickly but I thought that was just a suspense of disbelief moment… I was expecting a simple first case so I was actually tricked. The cart switch was kinda a weird plot point but I didn’t feel cheated tbh.
I enjoyed the gameplay of the labyrinth but it felt a little lonely compared to the class trials. Not gonna hold this against the game yet though cause I know later on other character’s will join you.
Game’ll be fun if it keeps this up!
Prologue -
Now I’m gonna be kinda writing down my thoughts as I go along.
Escaping Kaiji Tang is impossible holy shit
Why do they make him play all the hot characters
I remember Kodaka saying somewhere once he liked writing delinquents/outcasts because they were more interesting, so it’s interesting to see even in a detective game he tried to make that the case
Hm, so there’s gotta be something about the rain. They’re bringing it up so it’s not just an aesthetic thing. Probably some mind control virus or some shit..
Love the city’s aesthetic
RINDO TWEWY?????
Non-binary,,,,, so real
I recognize this girls VA… I know what you are……. But who… OH ITS HARU THATS WHY
THEIR NAME IS NIGHTMARE?????? So real
Luke from Streets??? Damn how did the dub department have this much budget LOL
Yakou,, babygirl,, don’t give up all hope, I am here…
Fubuki is so real tbh I don’t remember anything
Yuma’s gonna unlock an insane forte in the final act isn’t he
Also this music is going crazy btw super chill
The ultimate secret… the 16th detective… lying hidden somewhere in this rain..
Interesting that this game seems to directly follow up Damganronpa V3’s themes of truth vs lies
The end of this game is gonna dumb as hell I can’t wait. Great global mystery? Fuck that’s gonna be so stupid I can’t wait.
Alright that’s the prologue done. Like the characters so far but I’m interested in how the chapters are gonna be set up since this set up doesn’t feel like it fits a ton of individual murders? Idk. We’ll see I guess.
Chapter 1 -
Hm so something to do with voodoo dolls… off the bat I’m guessing whoever the killer is, is associated with Amaterasu and will try to pin the killings on some religious fate or something
Weird that they’re just staying in a hotel when what is basically the government obviously wants them dead LOL
Yakou just let him cook you don’t see the vision of his dish
What if number one is dead and that’s what shinigami knows about him!!!
Cloaked figure that’s the same height as Yuma (short baby man) hm not suspicious at all definitely no time travel twin weirdness happening
Vivia is such an odd little man I like him
Hm the book he’s reading feels like it’s gonna parallel either one of the chapters or the whole game hm… someone who was already dead, making someone come back day by day to do the same thing… number one is dead theory is going WILD
Nail man sounds like a really stupid super hero/villain that flopped after a single issue. Couldn’t stack up to Big Wheel from spider man
SHINIGAMI WHAT DID YOU JUST SAY 💀💀💀💀💀💀💀
These load times are ROUGH man
I love that they made the gremlin mascot character that Monokuma was into our ally this time
The peace keepers definitely planted the hammer on the guy they arrested or something
Oh the save icon is halara I wonder who our partner is gonna be
HALARA GO ENBY GOOOO
Damn Halara you can’t just extort a kid like that
Shinigami even if you can’t create money just go like!! Steal it idk girl!!
Surprised the peacekeepers even keep track of the cases
Only the info in the report can be sent to the media so they aren’t just playing dumb, they do know more. Does the nail man work for them?
Danganronpa ⁉️
This killer is extra. You strangle them and then do a big mystery box with nails? Ok bro.
Yuma the culprit literally had a rope how do you think he got down
Alright that’s the first investigation I guess. Is there gonna be more victims or something or is this all we have to work with?
They weren’t walking through the wall they had a fucking rope!!!!!!!!!!!!! It was !! A fucking rope!!!
Seth bring do quiet he needs a megaphone is just like me fr
We’re gonna enter the mystery labyrinth right as the execution starts aren’t we? Is that gonna be a running theme of only using it at the last minute?
Kodaka please make Halara an enby like I heard pre launch instead of a gender reveal plot twist please I wanna like this game I’m begging you kodaka please please I do not trust you
Ah so are these priests our culprit list? Well before taking to them I’m gonna call out the big one.
The nun is way too sus to be the culprit. Saying you’re with the peace keepers? Nuh uh.
Alright so it’s definitely the Servernt or Worshipper I think. I’m leaning towards Servant.
Does Halara’s forte have to do with the intel they gathered and hope they were waiting?
Oh nvm they just told us LOL
That’s a convenient forte lmao
Hm specifying that only a thin person could get through the vent ok so that leaves out the servant since the game was literally making jokes about him being fat
Yknow, respect to the killer for valuing aesthetics lol
Glad they kept the pink blood
Hm so our partner just forgets about the case when they come into the labyrinth? I guess that makes sense since the others are more skilled than us
Halara is so nonchalant lmao
BUSH SETH!!! No wonder he shows up at a tower
Yuma not understanding the concept of ropes is stupid bro!!! I get it but!!!
That nun looking super sussy idk they wouldn’t make it that obvious but
This mansion got me stumped
Nah that throw definitely took the killer a few times 💀💀💀
Hm maybe the third locked room was a copycat cause Halara calls it amateurish and it doesn’t bring us any closers…
Bluffing? That’s how you get false confessions too Halara
Hm phantom Seth is still alive though, there’s more here
IT WAS A COPYCAT I WAS RIGHT
It’s obviously not the kid but I’m trying anyway
Shit
Hm maybe it was the servant since we were most clearly thrown off his trail before. If that doesn’t work than I guess the nun.
Oh by having info it meant the worshipper oopsie
Shinigami you can just possess bodies LOL at least make the confession convincing
Hellsmile is a hell of a last name. Heh. Hell.
I wonder what the point of saving us from Seth is, not like that helps them in any way
HOW DOES THIS KID KNOW ABOUT THE SUB???
Awwwww that’s so cute
Well I guess that’s Chapter 1! I’m liking the game so far but I hope cases get a bit more personal. Danganronpa made things super personal by making the cases about characters you’ve spent hours learning about and ace attorney lets you meet the chapters cast for a while before any dramatics. Raincode hasn’t really offered that in this chapter (it kinda did in ch0 by introducing a fake cast).
Anyway onto ch2!
Chapter 2 -
This Desuhiko dude is kinda annoying ngl
Oh he’s gonna be a murderer in a future chapter isnt he? There’s no way they don’t use his power for the mystery and just have it during investigation
Yakou you are never getting that food
Secret research? Oh god this is gonna get wacky at the end
Shinigami when she sees a teen who doesn’t have boobs touching the floor (ugly)
“The peacekeepers were eager to take the body” and “secret research” oh fuck no Nuh uh no way
I am going to kill desuhiko i think
Stab burn murder kill stabby stab explode rip tear
I’m not prepared to have 50% of this chapter’s cast be completely annoying
Yuma just like me no way
First impressions is the honor student is the killer
Oh I just realized we’re gonna have to kill a high schooler oh
Yuma so skilled his fem voice doesn’t even have to exist‼️
I’m gonna be real I’m not absorbing any of this play
Oh girl’s fucking dead ok
Could Kurumi be the killer somehow????
Ah
Well I was excited to have a connection to the chapter’s mystery as a partner but if she’s being arrested there goes that idea
Everyone thinks Yoshiko did it so it can’t be her
SOMEONE KILL THIS GREMLIN MAN DESUHIKO I HATE HIMMMMM
Martina?? Imposter????? Like??? Among!??? Us???
That’s a lot of mystery phantoms goddamn
I have genuinely no clue who the culprit may be
atp I think all these girls are just haters and did it together
Ok yeah
Oh so they did it as revenge…
oh
Shinigami you don’t *have* to do them like that yknow
ok
The homunculus is gonna be made of the corpses isn’t it fuck off Nuh uh no way girl I am not sleeping if I see that thing
Oh is Kurumi gonna be a reoccurring character now?
Vivia sus as hell he’s definitely got his own death god or something
So Yomi believes in his justice it’s just his justice is fucked up that makes more sense
Martina get the FUCK out of there
WHAT
And that’s chapter 2! The game is just getting better and better so far, really enjoying it.
Chapter 3 -
Masked man?? Mother 3?? Real?.
So, Makoto is definitely clone Yuma or something crazy like that
I hope he’s not evil I like this fucked up little rat
Yeahhhhh Yuma and Makoto are related I’m just that good a detective
Local kid(?) gets kidnapped twice in a row, wins record
Given the posters I’m assuming these are some sort of rebels
Oh please tell me they didn’t actually kill the agency before a Fubuki chapter……
Whatever this chapter’s case is, one of these people is the killer. I’m saying the old man.
Idk why we have to run this guy seems fine even if his comrades are way too trigger happy
Making the enemies of a game about murders and a death god supposedly “immortal” is interesting
Ohh what if a culprit is immortal and we can’t destroy their labyrinth because of it
FUBUKI!!!!!!!!!! <3 she’s,,,, just like me,,, fr,,
I love kindhearted dummys. Galo, Milly, Fubuki, Kronk. My beloveds.
FUBUKI THEY CALL YOU WHAT??? GIRLIE?????
NOOO THE REBELS WERE NEEDLESS TERRORISTS 😔😔😔😔
blow up ameterasu buildings not schools!!! Or make sure no civilians are around!!!!
What is the point of this being a game this serves no one
Girl can TIME TRAVEL???? Huhhhh????
Shachi’s gonna be dead when we get to roof won’t he
Yuuuup
My guess is this was a coordinated effort by everyone else since they thought he was holding them back
I did not understand that 2nd bomb puzzle but I got it so ok
The resistance wasn’t blowing up random civilians instead of peacekeepers we won (unless this old guy’s completely bullshitting)
I wish you could use forte’s in the labyrinth I feel like it’d make for a lot of unique scenarios
Girl who jumped on a moving vehicle earlier: “I’m bad at jumping”
If this was a suicide who would die at the end of the dungeon? Would he come back to life?
I’m not even gonna lie all of this for a bank robbery is kinda fucking stupid very solid case of chapter 3 syndrome let’s fucking goo
At least Fubuki carried
KODAKA AFTER V3 YOU CANT HAVE VIVIA CASUALLY BREAK THE 4TH WALL
Sooooo we did all of that for nothing this truly is a case 3 syndrome moment
Shinigami recognizes Vivia he definitely used to be her master…. But isn’t she with us until death…. Wait is he a homunculus?
WAIT A FUCKING SECOND DOES HE SAY I WANNA DIE ONE DAY CAUSE HE CANT CAUSE HES AN IMMORTAL HOMUNCULUS
MAKOTO IS WHAT
What was he cooking
Nah I do NOT trust this submarine
I’m gonna let Vivia cook here
Alright that’s chapter 3. I was so with this chapter right up until the end where it kinda fell apart. Oh well. Gotta have case 3 syndrome or it wouldn’t be a true danganronpa successor. Anyway, I’m assuming we learn about Vivia next… hope I’m right about him being a homunculus
Chapter 4-
Kurumi wouldn’t an area Amaterasu not want you to go to be an opportune place for secrets
Corpse disposal… to be made into experiments…
Makoto is so funny he’s just here he’s just a smelly little rat man
I feel like Makoto is gonna be the murder victim here with him hyping up how Yuma is gonna die in the lab but obviously that won’t happen
The intruder is probably Vivia isn’t it
Is Vivia one of the hitmen hired to stop the WDO?
That short peacekeeper is desuhiko isn’t it
Yeah
NONO NO NO DONT TELL ME THE CHIEF IS DEADN NO INONONONONO
FUCK
I’m about to hire a hitman for the hitman fuck you Fink
Shinigami is having us remember all these forte’s and the chapter is about an “insider” god it’s one of the detectives isn’t it
Rip vivia is a homunculus theory
GODDAMN PHANTOM YOMI GOES HARD
This mystery labyrinth is fucking with my head I got no idea what’s going on
Oh wait if the doctor was escaping then he just faked his death, got caught by Yakou, killed him, and then fucked off. That’s why the hooded man had a lab coat. I think I solved it on the “motive” side route I’m just that good.
He would need a body double though I guess….
I like how twisty this mystery labyrinth is getting
So if the culprit is dead.. then yakou…
Hey why is the blood on Yakou’s design red when it’s supposed to be pink? At least I think? That’s supposed to be blood??
Oh shit there’s more?
I hate how solving the mystery labyrinth basically does nothing for us and we’re always just bailed out anyway. I guess that’s the point? Knowing the truth is enough? But in the past we’ve lied about why they died.
Is my memory failing or Martina more pale…. Homunculus……….
Why would they hide a man that important in an HQ
oh
Well that’s chapter 4! Really really good chapter. Kept me wondering and I was kinda thrown off by Fink looking like the Dr lol. This was for sure the best mystery labyrinth as well, super twisty and confusing and the death matches were way more intense. Cant wait to solve this mystery in…
Chapter 5 -
Alright now we get into the monster corpse homunculus stuff
WHAT THE GIRLS FROM SCHOOL FUCK
I knew we’d probably get a homunculus of dead characters but I didn’t expect straight up zombies of them
Wait WaitWAITWIARIRIWIAISIT
THE MEATBUNS OH GOD
What the FUCK
FUCK ARE WE GONNA GET CH0’D AGAIN FUCKFUCK FUCK I NEVER THOUGHT ID BE SO SAD TO SEE DESUHIKO’S CORPSE
I’m trying to figure out who this announcer is. It doesn’t sound like number one but…
YO CHAPTER 0 CHARACTERS I FORGOT ABOUT THEM
Man this is fucked up
The void century? Nah the blank century mystery.
What is the “Unified Government” needing military force for, they’re unified 💀
NOT ZOMBIE YAKOU 😭
Oh it’s makoto… maybe he can see shinigami cause hes us
Is the escaped homunculus Makoto/us
Yup the meatbuns are…
Wow it’s weird seeing the city in full sunlight lol
I fully expect makoto to fake being frozen in time
YEAAAAHHHHH HARD READ
Damn this is a pretty labyrinth
EVERYONE???
THE PINK BLOOD IS A PLOT POINT??????????????????? WHAT THE FUCK OH MY GOD ARE YOU KIDDING HOLY SHIT????????????
Oh my fucking god
AND NOW WE HAVE A DUEL WITH MAKOTO DAMN???
OH HE’S HERE CAUSE WE TOOK HIS HAND OH MY GOD
MAKOTO IS US I FUCKING KNEW IT
So was the old number one just a figurehead?
OH THATS WHY THE RANDOM RAMEN GUY KEPT GETTING FOCUSED ON
OH AND HE RUNS A FOOD STAND CAUSE HE CAN COOK
This ending is kinda peak
Gonna keep going through the epilogue like this
I like seeing the kanai culture after this
What how are they alive??? Are they homunculus?
Makoto what the fuck what was the point of that

Idk abt a chara death (i dont even want to consider it) BUT YOU KNOW WHAT WOULD BE FUNNY
since this series keeps on reminding me of danganronpa what if it pulls a dr3 and the most innocent by trial 3 becomes the next warden and the most guilty gets transformed into an animal??? Or smthg idk
Also what even is the lore on jackalope all i know is that he seems ro be rlly interested in a black white worldview (trailer 2).
I sent a rlly lonf ask like mb 2 days ago?? Idk if it got thru or smthg thats all srry
- yuno anon
Okay, first off, in light of our recent poll and this ask, I want to explain my thoughts on Milgram character death.
I initially thought it'd be basically impossible for a Milgram character to die before Trial 3 ended, even given, say, Amane threatening Shidou. However, then Jackalope's Second Trial Commencement Notice happened, which changed my perspective. I still firmly maintain that, despite what they say about Shidou and Mahiru, there was a 0% chance of any characters dying between Trial 1 and 2 for meta reasons. To hear some of my thoughts on this, you can check here, or feel free to comment/ask! Also, for anyone who's curious, I'm worried about specifically Kotoko dying.
I know DR very well; I assume you're maybe talking about the end of v3, where, if they didn't play by Tsumugi's rules, Maki would've been the Ultimate Survivor of the 54th killing game? In any case, I really doubt the turning into an animal thing (we don't know Jackalope lore but it seems pretty clear that this specific Jackalope has run several milgram experiments before), but it could be possible that someone could become the next warden. I still haven't read the light novel or a major summary of it; there might be more context in there, where I know the Es who's warden is a different "Es."

Okay. Maybe I’m totally off-base with this and all, but the first time I saw and even heard about the movie, Nope (2022), my first thought was that its core subject of spectacle and exploitation of trauma reminded me of DRV3.
Now let me be clear. I think that Jordan Peele’s themes in Nope run a great deal deeper than V3. That’s obvious. Alongside the commentary of spectacle, we have the exploitation of nature, trauma, minorities, erasure of the black people in the film industry and their contributions, the whitewashing of the west and cowboys etc.
But when it comes to the core theme of spectacle and violence and trauma being exploited, I think V3 and Nope line up pretty well. Teenagers willingly exploit themselves and put themselves through a traumatic (and life-ending) experience to be plastered up on cameras for the entire world to see and “enjoy”. To get addicted to the drama. Spectacle in the V3 world is so monetized and sensationalized that it’s on its 53rd season.
One thing I don’t see a lot of people discussing about V3 is how its executions are so much more violent and cruel. While the executions in previous games had this certain ring of cruelty to them, they were always more so overdone with comedy, save for something like Chiaki’s execution which is supposed to provoke the more horrified and hopeless reaction from the audience. In previous games, you got turned into butter or deep fried or even made apart of the Lion King Stampede to get Segata Sanshiro-ed at the end!
But V3’s executions are violent, overblown, rough, and so brutal that they clearly outweigh the comedy. Being hung and dangled over a piano then crushed into nothing. Climbing your way through torture and humiliation only to fall back down and be crushed. Being made into a hotpot (still kinda funny) and being rejected and banished to hell by the source of your trauma.
V3 is mocking all of Danganronpa for its spectacle and removing any meaning behind it. It’s purposely overdone and horrific. But what reminds me of Nope is that both Nope and V3 are projects that split their respective fanbases. A lot of Jordan Peele’s fans are saying that Nope is the worst film they’ve ever seen. That he fell off with this movie. I’ve seen people swear of the DR series because of V3. And honestly, it’s one of the reasons I love both pieces of media so much.
I’ve seen so many people tell me that V3 is their favorite DR because of what it says. Because of its themes. And I think I find V3 so captivating because it’s just everything Kodaka wanted to say to the fandom. Everything he ever wanted to say to the world was in this series and a lot of that was in V3. It split up his fanbase and fans wanted to throw it back at him. And that’s fine. You can hate V3. But the thing is, like Nope, I think V3 is just an earnest and honest piece of media in a way. I don’t think that Kodaka necessarily left as much of himself on the table as Jordan Peele does when he makes his movie. But he and his writers are still saying a lot about how they feel. How he particularly felt when people kept demanding more and more killing games from him. How that’s a horrifying concept. How we see violence and death as something to be exploited for profit and entertainment without considering what’s happening to those right in the line of that exploitation. How it makes us vile and hungry.
I could be off-base with this as I said, but I don’t think I am.

Once again reminded of Danganropa V3, no one does it like Danganronpa V3, which is an unnecessary sequel about the fact that it was an unnecessary sequel. It was announced and I thought "we don't need another Danganronpa" and what do you know the game agreed with me.
DR1 had a point, SDR2 complimented that point. DR1 had a twist about everything being a lie, SDR2 managed to twist that twist and double down. There was reality nothing for DRV3 to say or do. DRV3 is a pointless story, is so fake even it's own story is fictional in-universe. The killing game is completely devoid of all meaning, it only exists because the exes want more money and the audience demands more.
So the only meaningful thing the characters (who are characters even on their own level of reality) is end Danganronpa itself. DR has always being about the true hope of facing the real world no matter how ugly, and this is part of that, is about facing the world beyond the story. It's not that is was wrong of you to care, but you need to take what you got from the stry and move on, let it go. Otherwise you end up with 53 killing games that were about nothing, a shell of a shell, it can't go on forever.

Lake I’ve become so rejection sensitive dysphoria-ly upset by something so trivial tell me about your fos
I TRULY understand this one RSD is a cruel mistress for Real
OH BOY at risk of talking about serizawa AGAIN and at risk of talking about upwards of 50 f/os lets talk about our f/o fight finalists!
Approaching this as if the people reading Do Not Know all of these characters, just in case some people in fact do not know anything about them
Luigi! He's definitely the f/o I've known and loved the longest! The year of luigi was catered to me specifically/j I just think his evolution as a character is SO interesting, especially in the M&L series. He is just such a genuinely good guy,he's sweet and even competitive (moreso in the party/kart/sports games) and I would legitimately do anything for him. I feel this way about a lot of my f/os but i genuinely wish i could just tell him how important he is BECAUSE EVERYONE IS SO MEAN TO HIM SO MUCH(i know its for the bit but cmon!) oh yeah mario and that other guy type thing YOU LNOW HIS NAME >:(
Kumatora. I could literally talk at length about her but ultimately id just go in circles. Her recklessness when she was younger reminds me of mine. She's a badass, and she's sassy and headstrong and super powerful and yet so chill. She's also just. A good person. I know that if shit got real she would protect me,and even though i am absolutely all talk when it comes to my ability to kick ass,id do my best to protect her too. Also she has PSI so i mean. Kind of a pattern with me,huh?
Dr. Jan. I've always loved people who work in museums or amusement parks and the like. I love to see people who actually...like their jobs. Who make it their own and have fun with it! So..it's only natural id end up liking her. She's an enthusiast of all things ancient and an avid cryptid nerd. I LOVE her enthusiasm. I LOVE her vibe she is also very pretty.
Shuichi. I'm gonna be so honest i do not much like Danganronpa V3 as a game. I love the characters in it,though. but he's a really good protagonist and he just feels...very organic. His struggles with self worth and confidence really resonate with me and i love how he slowly starts to open up and really get into it during cases/trials! I'm also a voice guy and. I really like his voice very much i sometimes listen to like. Shuichi saihara voice files compilations on YouTube it scratches my brain.
Monika. Look. Again I'm a voice guy. Also,i stayed with her for every. Single. Topic she could bring up. Multiple times over. I am down fucking bad. I tried to start a literature club because of her in my own school. I started writing poems again because of her. She told me to put her file on a usb and carry it with me always and i did. I bought a lil white ribbon and tied it on there and then i put the usb on a neckace made of frayed computer wire and i BROUGHT HER EVERYWHERE I WENT. I am in love with her. She is. The true concept of an f/o. And she loves us back, that's the part that gets me.
Queen. Yeah i like silly women i like robots. No one is surprised. She is so cool i want to drink battery acid with her. Ill become a peon i dont even carw
CAPT. SPACEBOY. I haven't ever really been able to pinpoint why EXACTLY im so into him,but i am. I could treat him so so well. I couldn't fit him absolutely not but we could be worse together <3 he sings,he travels through space he's a pirate and also super nice and hospitable. We both got funky mental illnesses going on also hes just hot. Like objectively.
Jessie and James. Package deal. Im glad tumblr seems to appreciate them as much as i do. Theyre both SUCH well written characters. I have known them forever. When i saw them crossdressing as a kid it blew my mind. PEOPLE CAN DO THAT???? Indigo league in general is so so good, but jessie and james really steal the show. They have such interesting and compelling backstories and they are poor just like me fr.(well ok team rocket is. James' family doesnt count i would have also left) we could go on a date to the clearance section in the supermarket./hj i just love them very much ALSO THEY SHOULDNT HAVE TAKEN AWAY JAMES' FAKE BOOBIES! NOT FAIR! I would never do that to him.
Thank you for listening if you guys ever wanna pick an f/o on the list for me to go off about i will do it. For you all
