what instantly struck me as my favorite thing about disco elysium (and continues to be especially as I look at fandom content) is how so many of its characters are so insanely filled with depth. it was hard for me to concretely dislike any of the characters (the mercenaries are the only characters I just despise, and the racist lorry driver and gary but even then they got me to laugh at their absurdity). Even when their actions disgusted me or the way they spoke was indecent and cruel, they would do something to remind me of the humanity in them that I love. And the oppisite would happen, too, where the nicest, digestable characters end up rubbing me the wrong way, yet I cannot shake off their inviting persona. They all reflect human nature nearly perfectly imo. If I meet half these characters irl I'd probably hate them or at least dislike them to an extent, but from this third person perspective we have as the gamer I appreciate every detail given to the characters.

in disco elysium the only satisfying ending is helping ur community. It is not satisfying to put away the murderer, an old revolutionary man who is ill and frail and fallen through the cracks of the centrist government, it is not satisfying to be welcomed back into ur old precinct and rejoin the unfeeling hash and grind of your perpetual violence on the side of the trigger puller, it is not satisfying to interrogate and accost the suspects Klassje or Ruby or the Hardie boys and divide them apart when they are just trying to protect their orphaned own, it is NEVER satisfying to always follow Kim’s advice and it is certainly not satisfying to face down ur own personal ghost of idolization worship and perfection. it is not even satisfying to give up on all of this world and return to the primordial muck.
the only good ending in Disco Elysium is finding a home and musical passion for Andre Egg Noid and Acéle where they would have frozen or drowned in the ice, solving the “mystery” of the doomed commercial area and talking about cockatoos with Billie Mejéan, making sure Anette doesn’t have to stand outside in the cold and Plaisance doesn’t lose her daughter while cooking under the pressures of capitalism, learning about Gaston and René’s life long friendships and loves, cheering on Cuno’s fucking Night City of locusts, knowing the Hardie Boys will be checking on the Pigs, waiting on the swing sets and whistling a tune with your friend. Talking long enough with Little Lily that you feel Lamby pressed to your cheek, redeeming Fortress Accident under Soona’s guidance, spitting poetry with Tommy Le Homme and singing your heart out in the Whirling in Rags to a cafeteria full of townspeople who have only one place to gather at the edge of forgotten Revachol.
The worst part about Disco Elysium is being a cop 👉 hands down. It is an examination of many things, but especially what it means to truly change your Community for the better and how that is absolutely impossible as an agent of the status quo.

Band of Brothers Ages: IRL vs. Actors
Did you know that according to a 1947 study, almost half the men who served in WWII were still under age 26 by the end of the war?
What this is : A (very long) post comparing the ages of the actors in Band of Brothers vs. the IRL figures they are portraying.
Background: Did I need to do this? No. Did anyone ask for this? Also no. Did I do it anyway? Yes.
Disclaimers: This is SUPER approximate for the most part. I based IRL ages off of D-Day unless otherwise noted, and actor ages off of January 1, 2000, the year filming took place (the latter is where the most variation will be because I didn't try to figure out what month filming started). I also didn't fact-check birthdays beyond googling. Most are sourced from the Band of Brothers and Military Wikis on fandom.com, Wikipedia, and IMDb.
I broke them up into rough categories, which are, again, approximate. I know I often forget how young the real life people were here, and this was a good reminder of that. I also found it interesting to see which actors were actually younger than their roles!
Check it all out under the cut ⬇️

One thing I really love about Disco Elysium is how it subverts your expectations based on stereotypes and clichés you've learnt to expect from media.
There are the Hardie boys. Obvious first suspects and vigilanties given questionable authority by the Union and what more do they appear at the first glance than some mean boys gang. Except they *are* trying to make Martinaise better and safer place and they are willing to help their neighbours and people who seek refugee there - that's what the arranged lynching was about in the end. And yes their remarks are still sexist, they do not hesitate to use brutal force (I was testing what if I chose the worst option and they killed me and Kim on like three separate occasions). But also they could quite easily be abusing the power they have.
There is Evrat Claire fitting into evil fat ceo stereotype and you expect to learn that he does not really care about his workers and that the whole Union strike and getting benefits for the workers is some evil scheme but no! Turns out he really wants the Union to work out and he fights for his workers. He is using his influence to prevent organized crime and build up infrastructure and he cares about people of Martinaise - enough to create superficial job for René, enough to fund education for Elizabeth. And he is still not a best person. He is trying to bribe Harry. He does not hesitate to get rid of threats to his goals. His plans for Fishing village are not good either. And his refusal to acknowledge the danger mercenaries poses is questionable at best.
There is Cuno, delinquent kid screaming slurs at you and you expect him to be more of one gimmick character that is there just to make place feel more alive but you can actually bond with him and learn not only about his life and domestic abuse but also about his hobbies and you would not expect him to be your companion but there he can be if you fail to save Kim and you can recruit him to RCM.
There is Insulindian Phasmid. Mythical creature that is obviously fake and how ridiculous would it be to really believe in its existence? You expect all the mission surrounding it to be just a treasure hunt in vain that is really not about the Phasmid and more about relantionship of Lena and Morrell but no. The Phasmid is very much real and you can encounter it and it is much bigger and smarter than you would expect even if you did believe in its existence.
And then there is of course Kim Kitsuragi, your partner from precinct 57 and where can one even begin to describe all the contradictions Kim is? He just fits into that boring and very serious cop who is there to serve as your foil and hold you back and guide you and who will always be polite and kind. But no, he is genuinely funny and mean. He will not coddle you he just wants to do his job. He will not hesitate to call you on your bullshit but also he can play along with whatever scheme you are attempting. And he is actually very competitive and he can be silly and he is willing to agree even to some of your straight out crazy ideas. But he does care about you and he is quite amused by some of your stereo investigations. And when you learn about his past you understand why he always tris to keep up his perfect composure. And I will rather stop here because there is just so much to say about Kim.
I could go on and on I do not even know where to begin with our player character Harry and the journey of discovering who he is, who he was and who he could be. I could just keep listing characters and what are you supposed to notice about them at first and who you are supposed to assume they are in contrast what you can actually learn about them as you progress. And, yes, sometimes things are as they appear and the Racist Lorry Driver is just a racist and a lorry driver.
The point is you should never judge others based on the first impression even if they are just video game characters who appear to be cardboard cutout of overused cliché.

Tissus Art Deco en France
Alain-René Hardy
Editions Langlaude , Paris 2011, 255 pages,    310 reproductions en couleurs
euro 60,00*

andrew - ryan potter (hiro - big hero 6) entre (i guess?) (all versions but fender) - fletcher sheridan (nobody needs a thneed) daisy - renée zellweger (roxie hart specifically but with a strong southern accent) tbh i could probably find a better one if i looked im not super satisfied with it brady - tom hardy but irish kian - joel kinnaman (takeshi kovacs specifically)
spooks is..tentative but the closest ive ever found was sam witwer (galen marek specifically and like..when hes not putting on that weird star wars pseudo-accent. do u know what i mean. spook was raised in a latino family from louisiana to give u an idea of its accent)
theoretically ace should be so easy but ive yet to find one i like like i said. picky.

It's a new day, so let's review our list of tasks again. We got a lot done yesterday, but there's still plenty more to get done.
THURSDAY
Get yourself organised
You can't build communism alone. It's time to join your revolutionary brethren, develop your political consciousness, and put Mazovian theory into practice. But where have all the communists gone?
Roam the streets to sniff out some comrades.
WEDNESDAY
Spirit is eternal
The Horrific Necktie is getting ready for the end game. For the love of god do not remove it till the 'magic' happens.
Hold onto the spirits and wait for the signal.
Find Idiot Doom Spiral's jacket
Idiot Doom Spiral stole a cool jacket at one point... and then lost it again. The story of his life. According to the man, the jacket was last seen somewhere around the boardwalk, maybe the abandoned fish market.
Doorgunner Megamix
Hardie gave you a recording where the hanged man supposedly testifies to his intent to rape and pillage. Have a listen on a playback device—either in your room; or find one from a pawnshop.
Talk to Titus about the Doorgunner Megamix.
Ask Klaasje about Sunday night
When Kim's not around to stop you, ask Klaasje about what she heard from her room the night before you emerged into Reality. She must know something.
TUESDAY
Find the murder weapon
You need to find the firearm that killed the hanged man. Something tells you it will take *some* time. You could start by identifying the bullet, so you'd know the weapon that shot it. After that, keep your eyes open. And be patient.
Perform an advanced analysis, using Hand/Eye Coordination.
Open apartment door for Evrart
Evrart asked you to open the basement door behind the greenhouse in the backyard, to intimidate the occupant. Do what you have to do, Evrart has promised to give you info on the case in return.
Let Evrart know you unlocked the door.
Ask René about the photo
The photo you found in the nightwatchman's booth—the one with a happy couple. Ask René about it, he looked uncharacteristically happy on the picture.
Find working class husband
The working class woman you met in front of the bookstore admitted that her husband is missing. Chances are the guy is drinking somewhere with his buddies. Find him and bring him home, if possible.
Find Morell, the Cryptozoologist
The ageing cryptozoologist has been out in the reeds for too long, and his wife, Lena, is very worried. Maybe you can find him when you happen to be on the coast?
You told Lena Morell is missing because of the broken water lock. She is still worried he hasn't come back -- let Morell know if you see him.
MONDAY
Find the armoured gloves
The gloves of the hanged man armour might still be around in the neighbourhood. Try to locate them.
Ask the little girl in the fishing village, down the coast, who knows something about the armoured gloves.
Huh, we haven't seen a little girl in this village yet.
Due to some confusion over the game René and Gaston are playing, you threw one of their pétanque *boules* far in the sea. The shot was excellent, but now you owe them a *boule*... or at least similar-looking metal sphere.
Who put the clothes in the trash?
The victim's clothes were in the trash container out back, neatly folded. Who could have put them there, and why? Only the Whirling staff was supposed to have the key.
Who else has unauthorized access to the Whirling trash? Find this person and you'll know who tampered with the scene. (It may take a while).
We have now determined where the racist mug came from, so that's a lead.
Explore the Whirling's secret passages
There are strange doors in the Whirling. No one knows where they lead. Find a way in and see what's hidden there, in the hostel cafeteria's forgotten corners.
Find a way into the secret passage.
Find all armour pieces
You want all of the armour pieces. Deck yourself out in full metal battle-hardened glory. NOTE! This might take a while. Like, a *long* while.
