This week’s voices unlimited issue seems like something you’d enjoy (Idk if you keep up with it).
I’d love to hear your thoughts on walpurgis but I don’t want to spoil anything
Oh, I absolutely loved it. Oliveira has proven himself as one of, if not the strongest writers on the Unlimited platform, and he usually has a really good approach to young adult and teen characters, so I'm looking forward to seeing where this new run is going.
For anyone who missed it, Oliveira is writing a new run of the Marvel's Voices Infinity Comic. Each installment features a different young hero who ends up being recruited, for unknown reasons, by an older established hero. Last week, it was Aaron Fischer and Captain Marvel, this week, it was Brielle Brooks and Doctor Voodoo. The issue opens with Brielle saving her friend Jayden from the Temple of the Shifting Sun-- a vampire cult that's obsessed with finding ways to cure their vampirism and/or become daywalkers, which, unfortunately, usually involves human sacrifice.
It turns out that Agatha Harkness recently became the Temple's leader, and the whole thing was an elaborate ruse to draw Brielle out of hiding so that Agatha could offer to tutor Brielle and help her expand her powers... which is an extremely Agatha stunt to pull. Fostering young supernatural talent-- and dictating their choices whenever possible-- is her favorite pastime, and she's very interesting in anything to do with the Darkhold these days, so it makes sense that she'd set her sights on a young half-vampire. Agatha leaves without much complaint when Brielle turns her down, but before she leaves, she gives Brielle a cute little purple kitten named Walpurgis!
Tumblr media
Obviously, the stuff with Brielle and Jayden was great, and seeing Brielle link up with Jericho was really cool, too-- there's an immediate sense of solidarity between them, and they get some good digs in on white folks in the magic scene, like Agatha and Stephen. But there are were a lot of other cool details and continuity pulls that I want to highlight--
The Temple of the Shifting Sun first appeared in West Coast Avengers (2018), where they tried to sacrifice America Chavez for similar reasons. Kate Bishop's mother, Eleanor, is a vampire herself and was working with the Temple at that time. Eleanor's storyline was picked up in Voices Infinity #17, also by Oliveira.
According to Agatha, the Temple vampires worship the Demiurge. This is another instance where Earth's Demiurge is clearly being conflated with Billy Kaplan, which is a continuity error and, in my opinion, a really bad choice, but Oliveira seems to be committed to it. That said, at the time that WCA was written, there was a direct connection between Billy-as-Demiurge and America's mystical powers, so that is a clever through-line.
This is honestly some of the best writing Agatha's had in years, probably since before Midnight Suns. She feels more in-character than she did in Contest of Chaos, or even in that Hulkling & Wiccan series. It also re-established that she's centuries old and has had many names, which I thought was neat.
I'm very curious about Walpurgis the cat. First of all, I was just happy to see Ebony again, and I love the idea of her having a litter of magic kittens, but Walpurgis is suspiciously... purple. It might just be to match Brielle's hair, but purple is also Agatha's signature color, and I wonder if she created and/or enchanted the cat to spy on Brielle and Jericho.
Agatha's going to be the antagonist in the Strange Academy tie-in for Blood Hunt, so this might be an early prelude to that. Vampires and witches and headmasters!

Disabled Characters Showdown
Notes:
1.) Characters are listed below the cut because there’s a ridiculous amount of them.
2.) This is going to be a 128 person showdown. Because of this there are going to be a few adjustments from how we normally do our polls. First- not all characters will have character descriptions, because we have neither the time or inclination to do so. There still will be character images along with image descriptions, but that’s about it. Second- because of how many polls this is, the first round will be released in waves of 16 polls per day over the span of 4 days. The other rounds will not be impacted. Third- the first wave of polls will be dropping on the 28th.
3.) If you want to submit propaganda about any of these characters feel free to because otherwise you will get things like this: “Haven’t the faintest clue who this is, so you get no context.” You can also submit character images because most of them will be horrible due to us just pulling most of them from the fandom page.
4.) If you have any issues about any characters feel free to shoot us an ask. That being said, this poll isn’t really about who is the best representation. See more details here. If you are wondering why a character is on the list feel free to ask and we’ll tell you but we’re not gonna put on reasoning for all of the characters.
5.) We tried our best with some of the names, but also are not familiar with some of the characters on this list so if there’s any issues there please let us know.

Tumblr media
Name: Belladonna Stillwell
Face Claim: Giorgia Whigham
Love Interest: Larissa Weems
Fic Title: Nothing But Trouble
Plot Summary: There’s only one student the causes more trouble than Wednesday Addams and it’s Jericho's own Belladonna Stillwell. Born of a mortal mother and a demon father, she’s an outcast in a town where outcasts are tolerated at best. Aside from trying to blend in at her job working the night shift at Uriah's Heap, Donna is pretty much isolated, until she finally receives her chance to attend Nevermore Academy. Once there, she doesn’t lose her rebellious streak, but her bond with Principal Weems does certainly tamp it down a notch.
Tumblr media
Name: Fern Avondell
Face Claim: Paulina Chavez
Love Interest: Marilyn Thornhill
Fic Title: Heart And Soil
Plot Summary: Fern has never been a very good siren. She can’t control her Siren Song, but she has always been able to control plant life. Her parents named her Fern because nearby plants reacted to her mere presence. Being the thing she knows how to do best, that’s what Fern gravitates towards. Spending more time on land than the rest of her family, they eventually decide to send her away to Nevermore Academy. While Fern still clings desperately to the plants she loves, she also gravitates towards Nevermore's plant expert, Marilyn Thornhill. Both with secrets to hide, Fern and Marilyn have an uphill battle in front of them.
Tumblr media
Name: Josephina Mallard

But when sparks come shooting out of her fingers, her mother knows it’s time to tell her the truth. Her father possessed powers like the ones she’s exhibiting now. Scared for the first real time in her life, Josephina wants to learn to control it, but her mother can’t help her and her father isn’t around to, so that leaves Nevermore Academy. Only, branching out from her home and being with peers just brings out Josephina's wild side. Reprimanded severely by the end of her first week, it’s either expulsion or spying on Wednesday Addams to retain her spot at the school. Josephina knows which one she’s choosing.

Now I’m thinking about the Marvel vs DC crossover comic from the 90s that led to the brief Amalgam thing.....and how the rumor back in the day was that Marvel and DC were toying with the idea of ending the event by exchanging one hero from each universe. Allegedly it was going to be Hawkman that ended up staying in the Marvel Universe longterm, while She-Hulk would end up staying in the DC Universe, but then the deal they were working on fell through and that never happened.
But given how both Marvel and DC have extremely different tones, not every hero or concept from one universe would transfer cleanly into the other universe. Like there’s a reason analogue versions of popular Marvel characters have never made it big in DC and DC analogues like the Squadron Supreme have only ever been so-so in Marvel stuff....and its NOT because analogue or blatantly derivative characters can’t be done well, its just.....the Justice League in general aren’t a good fit for the Marvel universe for a variety of reasons. And similarly, a lot of Marvel characters and concepts just wouldn’t hit the same way if they were part of the DC setting.
That said, in general I’ve always preferred the Marvel Universe to the DC one just in terms of setting and general themes, and I wonder if part of why the Titans have always appealed to me so much more than most other DC characters is because they feel like they COULD actually be transplanted into the Marvel universe without too many major changes being made. Like I just mean....the Titans are very much DC characters, but more than a lot of other DC characters I feel like they could just as easily be Marvel characters?
I mean....Jericho could work in a Marvel setting, easily, even Deathstroke and their whole family could fit pretty well within a Marvel-based framework. I could see Starfire working as a Marvel character....she’d be really interesting in a lot of cosmic Marvel properties, and ugh imagine Kory as the ruler of her people making an alliance with Storm and Arakko? *chef’s kiss*
I’m actually very intrigued imagining the possibilities of Raven and Trigon being fit into the Marvel mystical landscape, Gar and Vic could easily fit into a number of franchises, and Lilith - well, I’ve always thought psychics were one area where Marvel definitely eclipses DC. The latter really has only ever had a handful of prominent telepaths or precogs whereas you can’t walk a single city block in Marvel’s NY without running into at least five psychics, mutant or otherwise. But rather than being redundant, Marvel’s psychics are very good at coexisting without feeling irrelevant despite their large numbers, so no reason Lilith couldn’t easily fit into the same ranks as Jean, Emma, Moondragon, Mantis, Xavier, Exodus, Destiny and many, many more.
And of course of the OG Titans, Dick as Nightwing would not at all be out of place alongside Spider-Man, Daredevil, etc, and Garth could be very interesting to play off of Namor and Marvel’s other Atlanteans. Wally and Donna would definitely stand out as few of Marvel’s speedsters could even come close to any of the Flash fam and they operate under entirely different speedster rules, but I could see Donna working as a kind of America Chavez style character.....hmm.
I definitely do think Jericho, Starfire and Lilith would be the easiest to transplant into the Marvel U without having to change almost anything at all about them or their backstories (as long as you just bring the rest of their associated concepts into Marvel with them, ie make Tamaran a planet in a distant Marvel star system and Deathstroke a former Weapon X project whose kids were born mutants as a result, etc, etc).
Anyway, just kinda an idle thought experiment brought about by the thought “Joey would be really fun as an X-Man.”

Watch "The Cisco Kid" on YouTube
youtube
My husband is Cisco kid and it's because his dad owned Cisco and the logistics company and it's also a computer company and it does controls and it does logistics computer computer work in other words it would figure out the timing of everything and the locations and the sales and everything without any effort and it turned into a lot of other things for space travel calculating how to get there the distance the fuel the air and a lot of people try using it to see if they could go into stellar and it's famous for it and my husband also created many of the concepts Hera says. And yeah I'm coming right but their concepts in there also programming lines and more he was doing there's a whole bunch of them and a lot of people don't know that and he puts the money in the stock and I did and I own a controlling chair and heals a lot of shares it's constantly trying to buy it from me. But this story begins and Cisco is his character's name and the two in the movie is Pancho Villa and the other one which is Trump has a different name and Chavez and they're a team but really he used VG's knife to kill one of Trump's guys in the movie and tons of stuff like that and they're at the border and it starts tonight and it is a famous famous story and it's replaying and it's about getting people here because they notice that the foreign warlock are kind of doing what Stan does and there's a whole bunch of Max coming down the military and Garth is singing it and he's saying you used to be a friend of mine when in fact he knows what he's up to and doesn't tell people cuz it's very dangerous for him he does manage to tell some people and kind of has to and it's a rough game and they're going out there to Mexico and it begins the day of the soldado and that's cesario the movie and they're going after the money and it's to take ships and hold them it's for Max plan for them to have Stan's empire shifts and stands people walking around and supposedly the more like you're hitting them and they're kind of lazy bums so it tells you what's going on

Still looking for Christmas presents? What about one (or all 😉) of these EPs?
Jericho Noguera - Get It By The Feel
Tumblr media
Jericho’s Noguera’s first full band record ‘Get It by the Feel’ has been over a year in the making, the track listing ‘Future Project’, ‘What Do You Really Mean’, ‘High’, ‘The Moon Against the Black Sky’, and ‘The Sun’ll Come Up’ features a unique blend of jazz, soul, and psychedelia. The EP was recorded and produced by Jericho at home in Birmingham.
‘With the new songs on the EP I’d been worrying that they might take some patience to catch. ‘High’ f or example is nearly six minutes long, and builds up slowly over two repeating chords. ‘The Moon Against the Black Sky’ is another one you kind of have to sink into, I think I'm asking the listener to give a lot to the songs, and that’s something I don’t expect everyone to do. I kept things sparse as a result of the limitations I had with recording, most of the songs have full unedited takes on each instrument, so it’s not one hundred percent perfect either. But ultimately I think that’s what’s given the songs their character. As cliche of a realisation as it is, I think it’s the imperfections that have given the songs life. These days people are compressing the shit out of their audio, among other mainstream habits, so I struggled with the idea of sacrificing a competitive mix against one that the songs really need. But I'm over it now, so here’s the record. (press release)
A Kind Of Man - A Kind Of Man
Tumblr media
Danish A Kind of Man is Bjørn Rosenquist’s solo project and his self titled debut EP was released November 29th.
A Kind of Man’s first single ‘Teddy Love’ achieved airplay on Danish national radio. Following this Bjørn and his band - A Kind of Band - have played several shows in Denmark, also as supporting act for Australian POND. Shortly after, Bjørn was contacted by renowned director Meeto who created a stunning music video for ‘Teddy Love’. This video was nominated for Best Music Video at The True Award 2019.
In February 2020 another music video by Meeto will be released for the track ‘FLIP’ off the debut EP.
Acclaimed artist Nicolai Bruun has made an animation video for A Kind of Man’s latest single ‘Franceen’. Bjørn stars as “Franceen” - an androgynous figure who represents the offbeat emotions in the song. The singles ‘Teddy Love’ and ‘Franceen’ have both been included in the soundtrack for Kaspar Astrud Scrøders documentary ‘Don’t Give A Fox’ which revolves around a group of urban skater girls.
“Hopefully my music sounds like lightly moisted cotton panties on a woman lying half asleep in the sand on a stinking hot beach.”- A Kind of Man (press release)
Junodream - Isn’t It Lovely (To Be Alone)
Tumblr media
While the track’s atmospherics vary dramatically on ‘Isn’t It Lovely (To Be Alone)’, the songs are all thematically linked. They’re a collection of vignettes in the life of an ordinary young man, whose dedication to making the best of his position in life masks the turmoil that lies just under the surface. Think Gregor Samsa from Kafka’s The Metamorphosis dropped into a modern metropolis. The topics that Junodream address are drawn from the band’s personal experiences. But they’re frustrations which are common amongst people in their early twenties: anxiety; the financial demands of debt and rent; lack of fulfillment at work; insecurity in relationships; and an overwhelming lack of control.  Junodream like to see the funny side in things, and these themes are injected with a wry sense of humour. It becomes a catch-22 situation: you’re constrained by the very things that you want to escape. Ed explains the meaning behind the EP’s title track ‘Isn’t It Lovely (To Be Alone), “The track is about a failed relationship in free-fall. It’s centred round a sordid night out where things break down, hidden tensions come out the woodwork and you just want to go home”.  (press release)
The Hollow Ends - The EP II
Tumblr media
St. Louis gypsy-folk act The Hollow Ends announced on October 28 the release of “THE EP II,” a brand-new 5-song album.
The new EP features 5 previously unreleased songs, including the first single “What,” a gypsy folk tune you might hear at a creepy carnival plucked out of the 1930s that you don't feel entirely safe at, which was released on October 30. Kick drum, tambourine, upright bass and gypsy jazz-influenced guitars drive the song forward, and Vaudevillian 3-part harmonies and a Django-style guitar solo add to the circus vibe of this rickety Ferris Wheel tune.
The EP also features “Little Devil,” an indulgent gypsy/folk/rock/punk track from a traveling Tim Burton-on-MDMA circus, and “Annie Pardami,” a twangy alt-folk romp with upright bass and melodica.  These, the 2nd and 3rd singles from the record, were released on November 19 and 28, respectively. The record was tracked and produced by Zachary Schwartz, the brains of The Hollow Ends operation.  Ben Majchrzak of St. Louis-based Native Sound mixed and mastered the record. (press release)
Chavez Cartel - Confidence Is All I’m Taking Home
Tumblr media
Confidence Is All I'm Taking Home is an assertive representation of the Chavez Cartel spirit of self belief and persistence to overcome obstacles, doubts and negativecriticism; pushing themselves beyond their limits to continue evolving as individuals and collectively as a band. Chavez Cartel wear their hearts on their sleeves with this EP,expressing genuine emotion on each track.
Teaming up again with producer Govinda Doyle; the EP comprises of 5 new songs, including the recent single 'Love On The Run'.
The title of the EP derives from lyrics of the first track 'Scum and Fears'; "Confidence is all I'm taking home. Hard earned like ya fathers gold. I'd pay for pain but you bring so much for free." To grow we must accept who we are, flaws and all; embrace every opportunity we're given, make mistakes to learn harsh lessons and become a better version of ourselves.
''Different Underneath' is a battle between doubt and self belief wrestling it out for pole position. Overall it's an encouragement to stop doubting yourself, bite the bullet and pursue your aspirations with confidence. "I know you're weary, I know you're teary. But wipe an eye and have a wonder underneath."
The track 'For Better Or Worse' is a love song about making it through all the ups and downs that come with a romantic relationship and the commitment associated with the vow 'till death do us part'. "Her heart and soul belong to him and his belongs to her. It's written in the stars and in his words. For better or worse." "She's everywhere, he's all around, she's in the air, he's on the ground."
To bring the EP to an end is the live acoustic track 'See You Again'. A dark and gothic take on relationships, focusing on broken promises and empty words. Are you guilty of saying things and failing to follow them through?
Chavez Cartel are proud of their achievement to bridge gaps this year despite the knock-backs. They have proven to themselves that self confidence is paramount to achieve success and to celebrate all wins in the right direction, positive progress is key. (press release)

multiverse of madness thoughts. spoilers obviously
1. i think critics are insane for the way they're ignoring benedict cumberbatch's performance. he gave each of the four stranges nuanced, distinct personalities that allowed them to shine through. even supreme strange and his "i'm ready" comment when facing death — a nice call back to stephen's "i am not ready" comment in the first movie.
2. wong had some good scenes but i am angry at how much they nerfed him. even if the scarlet witch is a super op character, wong is the sorcerer supreme ffs. he is supposed to be powerful and he didn't even get a single hit at wanda, just got thrown around a lot and it was frankly insulting.
3. they did mordo so dirty. first by not even including mcu mordo in the film, then by retconning his backstory. waldron is a fucking demon because one of the reasons why mcu mordo was so appealing was because his enmity with strange had a logical starting point versus the comics mordo. but of course waldron retconned it into the comics verse where mordo is just a bitter jealous man. i fucking hate this. chiwetel doesn't deserve this rat man's nonsensical writing.
4. master mordo was a cutie tho. my favourite bit was when stephen put that magic dampener cuff on him and they started throwing hands at each other. lol dumbasses.
5. the Illuminati were boring except captain marvel. i refuse to believe that she is dead given she literally is one of the most powerful beings in every universe. it was so good to have lashana lynch back ❤️
6. the sorceress sara was done so fucking dirty. they gave her a funkopop, they chose her name to tease sara wolfe (wong's interest) and then they killed her off so horrifically. i hated that so much. this film somehow relished hurting and killing bipoc and ofc you can't expect anything different when you consider the people in charge. it was nauseating and the more i think about it, the madder i get. 🥲
7. wendy was surprisingly good as a villain but then marvel did its thing and tried to excuse her actions every step of the way. like sorry u lost your imaginary kids. maybe seek therapy instead of trying to kill a literal child for your gratification. plus the justification she gave for wanting to kill America? nauseating.
8. i really liked america chavez. she may have lost her moms in the multiverse but I'm return she gained two incredibly tired dads 🥲🥺
9. one day marvel is gonna respect reed. one day. but let's talk about clea. one of my legitimate fear was that they'd cast some 20 year old to play her and it'd be just as iffy as their ambiguous age difference in the comics. idk how charlize will do as clea but im happy that she's at least bc's age
10. overall a very mid film that was both a doctor strange film but it also wasn't. i'll have more thoughts later but one thing is clear. waldron is a demon. doctor strange 3 should be about doctor strange characters so pls no wendy or loki or anyone else. jericho drumm, more mordo, clea and wong pls. would love to see america too and maybe vvd.bye
