Rosalyn Tureck

Rosalyn Tureck was born in 1914 in Chicago, Illinois. Tureck had a varied repertoire, and performed on piano, harpsichord, organ, clavichord, and the Moog synthesizer. She became known primarily for her performances of Bach, which influenced future generations of pianists including Glenn Gould. Tureck made her Carnegie Hall debut in 1932, and later made her professional orchestra debut with the Philadelphia Orchestra. She did not retire from giving concerts until 1999. Aside from her immensely successful performing career, Tureck also had a distinguished career as an educator. She founded multiple organizations for the study and appreciation of Bach, and taught at the Juilliard School and Columbia University. She also worked with Henry Beinof for twenty years on the development of an electric piano. 

Rosalyn Tureck died in 2003 at the age of 88.
