I need everyone in the self shipping community to imagine an alternate universe where YOU are the fictional character and your f/o ships themselves with you!!

Maybe it was instant. Maybe the moment they saw you they felt their cheeks grow hot and heart tighten and butterflies in their stomach.

Or maybe it was gradual. You were always one of their favourite characters, but one day they couldn’t get you out of their mind. They caught themselves smiling while engaging with your media and thought “….oh. I’m in love.”

Sometimes they’ll come across fan art that is so so perfect that they swoon, and listening to your voice lines and watching scenes you’re in makes them so happy. They’re so in love with you.

They imagine you comforting them when they’re sad (and doing the same for you!), and snuggling at night, and going on dates, and taking care of you, and making you as happy as you make them.

They make edits and moodboards and fanfics and fan art for you. You’re their phone wallpaper and icon and they have merch of you. They just wanna see your cute face and know you’re close to them no matter what.

You hold such a special place in their heart and they just want to reach through the screen and kiss you. They do!!!

im going to say something and i need you guys to turn your critical thinking on for this one. okay? okay.

i think. you people need to leave each other alone. now let me expand on this

i keep seeing this sentiment that those 'would your f/o like you in real life' is self loathing bait but that is a generalization and we need to stop acting like its superior to think that your f/o would like you no matter what. some people like to have complex relationships with their f/o that contain negatives in it, and this INCLUDES understanding that in real life without a very specific set of circumstances, their f/o would not like them. not everyone uses self-shipping as escapism and desires 'unconditional love'. also some people are just recognizing their own flaws, with no loathing involved, and thats okay too.

another similar instance and sentiment is the whole 'only anime' f/o list drama. i think in this case. we need to leave each other alone. it is completely valid to be annoyed that everywhere you look you see f/o lists filled with the same 3 anime sources. it is a very solitary feeling when you have an unconventional f/o in a community dominated by prettyboy/girl anime f/os. but ON THE OTHER HAND it is also okay to have these lists of anime f/os. if those are the characters that you like, then so be it. to each their own and all.

like. not every selfship is going to be the same, not every selfshipper is going to be the same. we are (debatably) a community but trying to force ourselves to be a monolith who all feel the same on certain issues is just going to breed bitterness and anger. just. leave each other alone and if theres someone you absolutely cant stand because of something like this then just. block them and complain in private. this is so tiring.

this does not apply to shit like pro/coms.hipping and shit like racism if those labels apply to you, do not touch this post OR steal it.

Allow yourself to make any story you want for your Self Insert. If you want to stay yourself that's fine! If you want to grow into a different person due to story experiences, do it! There's so much fun and catharsis to be had whether it's SFW or NSFW, there's no rules of what you're allowed to do with YOUR Self Insert. Good, Evil, Neutral, Toxic, EVERYTHING IS ON THE TABLE FOR YOUR PERSONAL FANTASY. You can write yourself reacting to different situations any way you want. Just because you wouldn't "realistically" handle things a certain way, who the fuck cares ITS YOUR SELF INSERT YOU MAKE THE RULES.

Experience horrific atrocities that change you into a completely different person from the trauma that only your F/O can heal? Or only you can help their own traumas? DO IT.

Save the day even when canon heroes failed and be the only one who can get it done, everyone loving you for it? DO IT.

Be trained by F/Os and become an amazing fighter that can hold your own in a brawl? DO IT.

Help the villain, or hell BE the villain, who wreaks havoc while reveling in the evil and carnage of it all to a concerning degree? DO IT.

Become a secret assassin who has to go through special training and actually kill people and infiltrate spaces in order to complete the missions you were trained to do, and fucking loves it all? DO IT.

Take part in a gigantic intergalactic revolution that could tear the structure of leadership apart down to its very knees, fighting alongside your F/O? Or even tragically, fighting against your F/O? DO IT.

Having the ability to fight the enemy whether you're a Villain or a Hero, achieving abilities that make you a force to be reckoned with to the point where even canon characters know your name without having ever met? DO IT.

Actually fucking DIE and have an angst filled pain train from all the heartbreak your F/O experiences due to your death? DO IT.

Have an evil F/O that inflicts dark emotional and/or physical torture that breaks you past the point of no return? DO IT.

Fuck everyone and everything because you're just that attractive and amazing? DO IT.

Hang out with everyone and everything because you're so damn cool and engaging? DO IT.

You're so fantastic and will have awesome experiences, or you know, delicious painful experiences. You're also gonna get AAAAAAAALLLL the F/Os, they love you so much because it's YOU no matter what form your Self Insert takes!!!!
