Trektober 2020 - Day 6: Captain’s Chair - James T. Kirk x GN!Reader
I’m really enjoying the trektober challenge if you haven’t noticed. There isn’t much of a romantic subplot in this, though I guess there doesn’t really need to be. However, how could anyone work with Jim Kirk and not fall a little in love with him?? Right?? I hope you guys enjoy this little retrospection into what it feels like to be captain!
Trektober Day 3 - In Uniform (Bones x Reader) || Trektober Day 4 - Aliens Made Them Do It (Bones x Reader) || Trekober Day 5 - Pining (Bones x Reader) || Trektober Day 6 - Captain’s Chair (Jim Kirk x Reader) || Trektober Day 7 - Soulmate AU + Interspecies Relationship (Bones x Reader) || Trektober Day 9 - Sex Pollen (Jim Kirk x Reader) || Trektober Day 10 - Historical AU (James Kirk and Leonard McCoy) || Trektober Day 11 - Stars (Leonard McCoy x Reader) || Trektober Day 15 - Shuttle Crash (Leonard McCoy x Reader) || Trektober Day 18 - Waiting by Bio Bed (Leonard McCoy x Reader) || Trektober Day 31 - Holiday Celebration (Leonard McCoy x Reader)
Jim’s words still echoed in your head even as you lowered yourself into the captain’s chair: it’d been a shout of your name, and the ever dreaded, “Take the conn.” And then he disappeared, off to traipse across the surface of world unknown to the Federation.
You gripped the arms of the chair and swallowed, half cursing the day you donned command gold.
Chekov glanced back at you, offering you a half smile. “They will be okay,” he reassured you, his thick accent comforting, repeating the same words he had been saying for the past two hours.
You found the energy to smile back. Glancing around the bridge, you found yourself sinking further back into the chair, going so far as to even draw a foot onto the edge and hug your knee. With a twist to the left, you could see one of the navigators, as well as the chair Spock normally occupied. To the right, you could see the other navigator and Uhura at her post. She flashed you a reassuring grin. You righted the chair, staring down at the curving post currently manned alone by Chekov.
And stretching out before you was the most glorious starfield you had ever seen.
The stress of being the captain might have been great – hell, you thought you’d have to make a trip down to the Med Bay once Kirk returned to make sure your racing heart didn’t cause any damage – but there were a lot of perks to it.
Your fingers relaxed around the arm of the chair.
Behind you, the door to the bridge whooshed open, followed by a very excited chirp of, “Captain on the bridge.”
You whipped the chair around to meet Jim’s gaze. He was a little singed, a little dirty, but he grinned at the sight of your smile.
“Thank the stars you’re back,” you said as you stood. He opened his arms, ready for the familiar embrace you often greeted him with upon his return. You grabbed his arm and yanked him towards the chair. “You took everyone else ahead of me in leadership with you, I am not hugging you,” you chided, “I hate that seat.”
Jim fell into the captain’s chair with a dramatic gasp and a chuckle. “We’re fine,” he said with dazzling smile.
“Good,” you replied, crossing your arms. “Next time you give me the conn is gonna be the last, because I’ll be having a heart attack from the stress!” You shook your head. “Please, don’t do that again!”
His smile was teasing, but gentle, and he whispered, “No promises,” as he pried one of your hands from the crook of your elbow and planted a kiss across your knuckles. If only your post wasn’t just a few steps away, within arm’s reach of Uhura, you would have stormed off the bridge. Instead, you clicked your tongue against your teeth and gave his head a gentle shove.
“Jerk,” you whispered.
He turned the captain’s chair forward with an entertained chuckle.
You rubbed your chest as you sat in front of your console, staring at the hundreds of lines of data before you, and felt the weight of the Enterprise lift from your shoulders. You threw another glance back at Jim, who lounged back in his seat and listened to McCoy rant about a physical.

Y/n wakes up to the most obnoxious beeping sounds. With a groan, she turns off the alarm, rubbing her eyes awake. Sitting up, Y/n looks around the room. Still dark outside. ‘Why am I up? Oh, right!’ Y/n thought to herself. Jumping out of bed, she clutches her dresser, bracing herself from falling. Dizzy, very very dizzy. She drank too much last night. Walking into the bathroom, and regretting turning on the light, Y/n got ready for the day. Washing off the grim from the last two days, Y/n relishes the warm water on her back. This will probably be the last time she gets to take a long shower.
Y/n is smoothing out her type b uniform shirt when she hears a knock at the door. The door was open by the time she got there and in the doorway stood Sara in her bright golden uniform shirt, a just as bright smile and a duffle across her back.
“You ready for the rest of your life, Y/n?” Sara rocks on her heels.
Still a bit groggy, Y/n hums to her friend while reaching for her own duffle, “How are you so awake? It’s 6:30 in the morning.”
“Because I’m already two cups of coffee in. Have you had breakfast?” Sara questions as the two make their way down the steps of their apartment.
“No, you’re not supposed to eat before a shuttle transport. You know that.” Y/n chuckles.
The two walk in comfortable silence. The train station was unsurprisingly quiet as they take their seats on the way to the shuttle bay.
“The new Enterprise is less than a year old. It’s outfitted with all the new shiny toys. I’m very excited to see the bridge. I heard they used a new transparent aluminum alloy for the main viewport that’s clearer than ever before.” Sara muses while watching the buildings pass.
A voice overhead announces we are arriving at the Federation shuttle bay. Y/n and Sara stand to leave. The train comes to a stop and the sliding doors open. Climbing up the stairs reveals a bustling hanger full of recruits.
“Sara, Y/n!” Calls the Russian accent of one Pavel Chekov. “This way!” He signals to follow him.
The two sprint to catch up to Pavel and separate into one of the Enterprise transport shuttles of their respective departments. Strapping her bag above them, Y/n takes a seat next to Commander Spock. People continue to file in. After about 30 minutes, 7 shuttles transport the entirety of the 450 person crew aboard the Enterprise.
“New Science Officers, please follow me,” Spock speaks clearly as he stands from his seat. Returning crew follows him out of the shuttle while the new members scurry to retrieve their bags. 5 new science officers in total exit the shuttle last, following Spock through the hallways.
“First, I will show you the 14 science labs and who will be heading them. Each one will have a specific topic of research, but all will help another when needed,” Spock drones while tapping a datapad. “Secondly, I will show you to your quarters.”
The halls of the Enterprise were bright white and smelled of mild cleaning supplies. They file into a turbo lift to deck 5. Y/n peaks at the other 4 new members of the science crew and notices she is the only one who has a rank higher than Ensign. Stepping off the turbo lift, The group makes their way down a hallway when Commander Spock stops.
“This is Lab 1; which will focus on stellar cartography as we travel deeper into space. It will be lead be Leuitenant Viann.” Spock motions towards the lab.
Inside stands a slender Vulcan setting up his lab. Spock continues to introduce the different labs and leaders, which Y/n quickly loses track of and begins to zone out. That is until Commander Spock says her name.
“To repeat myself, since Lieutenant Junior Grade Y/l/n has decided to check back in. Lab 13, focused on Bio-mimetic Gel and other potential medical substances, lead by one Lieutenant Junior Grade Y/l/n.”
“Yes, sorry Commander.” Y/n apologizes, now fully attentive.
“And lastly,” Spock continues to walk. “Lab 14, focused on gravimetric field displacement manifold, lead by Lieutenant Commander Montgomery Scott.”
Y/n looks into the lab and makes eye contact with Scotty, who gives her a small wave and a smile. She does the same. Spock goes back down the same hallway they just came from to lead the new crew towards their quarters. Y/n follows from the back, stopping for a second to look into the lab she will be working in. Far more state of the art than what she has been working in. Her studies will progress much fast on here.
Spock shows them to Deck 8, where they will be living for the next 5 years. The new ship supports enough room for every crew member to have their own room. Y/n throws her duffle onto her bed and unzips it to put her few civilian clothes into the closet that had 5 changes of uniform already hanging. A knock on the door echoed as Y/n hung her royal blue dress up.
“Come in,” Y/n calls over her shoulder.
The door slides open revealing a younger crewmate no older than 20 who quickly salutes. “Ma’am, Lieutenant Commander Scott requests your presence in Lab 14.”
“Thank you, but I am not high enough rank for you to be saluting, and I’m not old enough to be called ma’am,” Y/n chuckles, reaching out her arm. “What’s your name? I’m Y/l/n.”
“Very sorry, ma-, Y/l/n. I am Jason Reed.” He shakily takes her hand.
“First ship? Me too.” Y/n laments while she follows the ensign out of her room after grabbing her datapad. “Did Lieutenant Command Scott mention why he was requesting my assistance?”
“He mentioned something about some gel being delivered to the wrong lab?” Reed’s face contorted as he tried hard to remember his exact words.
“Huh, okay. Thank you for showing me the way. Lord knows I’ll be lost for the first month on here.” This causes Ensign Reed to chuckle.
The turbo lift doors open to Deck 5 and a slightly sweaty Scotty.
“Oh, good. You’re here,” Scotty huffs, “can you tell me why 5 crates of highly volatile goo were delivered to my lab?”
“Thank you for the escort, Reed. I believe I can find the way from here,” Y/n smiles at the ensign as the doors to the lift close after stepping out. “As for why the bio-mimetic gel was delivered to lab 14 instead of 13, I have no idea. But I’m happy to help you move it to my lab.”
“Well, let’s get going then, Lass,” Scotty says, turning and walking towards the labs.
“How does an engineer get access to a whole lab anyways?” Y/n questions.
“I came up with a fancy equation. How’d a Lieutenant Junior Grade get access to a whole lab?” Scotty’s accent was thick, but not as thick as it was when he was drinking.
“I came up with a fancy equation too,” Y/n laughs at herself repeating what the engineer had said.
After about half an hour of carefully moving crates of bio-mimetic gel, the two were finished.
“Sorry about the mix-up, Commander. It won’t happen again.” Y/n said, wiping her hands on the sides of her pants.
“I thought I told you to call me Scotty, lass.” Scotty remarks as he enters Lab 13 with two teacups, handing one to Y/n, “Earl Grey.”
“Thank you,” Y/n whispers, setting it down to hop up and sit on the lab table before picking it back up and taking a sip. “Please sit.”
Scotty sits in one of the chairs surrounding the lab table in front of Y/n. They both sip their tea in silence until Y/n speaks.
“So, I heard you were marooned on Delta Vega for half an Earth year.”
“Marooned!?” Scotty gawks as he sits up straight. “I was left for dead! You beam one beagle off-planet and you’re left for the drakoulias’.”
“Did you ever find it?” Y/n laughs at the engineer’s outburst.
“No,” Scotty whispers.
“Hm?”
“No! I never found that damn beagle.” Scotty laughs.

Star Trek Secret Santa 2020
A fic for @saritaadam for @startreksecretsanta for the prompt of “TOS Sulu, Chekov, and Uhura on their own adventures.” Thanks to @that-one-curly-haired-chick and @wreckx for looking it over for me.
“I’m still not sure I get it, “Chekov whispered under the latest round of applause and laughter.
Sulu was already prying the Russian’s communicator out of his hand and sliding it towards the middle of the table. “Not much to ‘get’ here, pal. Just hope you aren’t unlucky.”
Moments ago, when Chekov had been hovering in the doorway of the recreation room to see a group of senior officers huddled around a ring of communicators on a table, his first impressions were those of a cult. The deck officer who glanced up and immediately asked “You in?” did little to assuage that. Yet Chekov was smart enough to know that you could hardly afford to alienate other crewmembers in the early days of your first assignment. If the four hundred something people on this ship were all members of some secret cult, well, it was time for him to learn its laws.
Luckily, Lieutenant Sulu had recognized him and immediately waved him over to sit by him, persuading the others to let him have one round to watch before joining in the fun.
Unfortunately, Chekov was still confused as to what this fun was.
“Is this something for all in Starfleet? A game everyone plays?”
Sulu smiled and shook his head. “Only we’ve got Uhura. It’s basically a free show, Pavel. The price is just—” His words faded as the bosun whistle on the wall panel sounded.
“Kirk to Sulu.”
“Shit.” Sulu groaned.
Uhura rose gracefully to a chorus of cheers and groans, which quieted as she reached the panel.
“Kirk to Sulu.”
“Nyota, be kind,” Sulu begged before he was promptly shushed by the rest of the table.
Uhura gave a wink before extending a graceful finger to the comm. “Sulu here.”
Chekov blinked. The last round that he’d witnessed, he’d assumed Uhura was just answering comms in silly voices for fun. Knowing that her voice was now a perfect impersonation of Sulu’s. . . well, apparently that was the price of the show.
“Sulu, regarding our course to Agaron PrimeI. If we were to make a stop at the Canopus  first, how much would that delay our arrival?”
The table exploded into a muted explosion of giggles as every eye turned expectantly towards Sulu, who had sprung into action. Two fingers, then six, then four. A jabbing finger. Eight fingers. His hands held close together, then spread far apart.
Chekov looked at him as if he’d lost his mind. Uhura kept her cool gaze. “Did you say Canopus, Captain?”
Two, six, then four fingers. Three jabbing motions. Eight fingers, A decidedly frustrated and sarcastic spreading of the arms.
“Yes, Canopus. How long, Sulu?”
A pause. “I’m sorry sir…I’ll need time to work that out.”
“Hmmm. I see. See that it doesn’t take you too long to find a calculator, Lieutenant. Kirk out.”
“TWENTY SIX SOLAR DAYS,” Sulu burst out as soon as the red light on the wall dimmed. “IT’S FOUR POINT 8 LIGHTYEARS, AVERAGING 5.4 WARP, CALCULATED IN THEIR LOCAL TIME, THAT’S TWENTY SIX SOLAR—”
“Don’t tell her, laddie,” chuckled Scotty as the rest of the table burst into laughter. “Sounds to me like you’ve got a call to make.”
Sulu slumped in his chair and dejectedly sipped his drink. “One more round. The captain already thinks I can’t do warp equations at the ready. Five more minutes won’t damage my reputation any further.”
“I’d spend that time practicing your charades,” Uhura added lightly as she came behind Sulu’s chair. “No sun? No days? I’m not a mind reader, you know.”
“Just a life ruiner,” Sulu muttered darkly, but his mouth twitched as he brought his glass to his lips again.
“I do think that I’ve only one more round left in me, so before you all—" Uhura frowned as one of the communicators on the table buzzed with its whistle. “Is that…Pavel’s?”
Chekov’s heart sunk. “Da.” His shiny communicator stood out in the ring of dingy dull devices. “Yes, it’s mine.”
Everyone else reached out to pocket their device, murmuring in surprise as Uhura stayed put behind Sulu.
“That’s not fair to me, he’s only just got here!”
“You’ve had seven days, Nyota! You mastered Klingon barroom slang in half that time.”
“We do tell everyone you’re the best at this, you know.”
Uhura crossed her arms. “I’ll have you know Klingon barroom slang is quite easy to pick up once you’ve mastered one particular expletive. I’ve hardly gotten to spend any time with Pavel so far!”
“Yes, give the lady a break, please. It’s not like I have any noticeable accent to copy,” Chekov added helpfully, wondering why so many people broke out into snickers again.
“Sorry, Nyota. Your own rules, after all,” said Sulu firmly, gracefully reaching across and holding the communicator over his head towards Uhura.
“Sore loser,” Uhura muttered, but opened the communicator anyway and took a deep breath. “Chekov here.”
A mutter of approval circled the table at the reveal of Uhura’s first Russian accent. Not half bad, Chekov admitted to himself. She did sound like she came from St. Petersburg instead of Moscow, but he could take that up with her later.
“Ensign Chekov, this is Mister Spock.”
Whispers of excitement now. Sulu glanced over in time to see Chekov’s mouth beginning to open, and quickly slapped his hand across it. “Rules, Pavel.”
“Yes, Mister Spock.”
“Ensign, I am calling regarding our latest discussion that we had about the—”
Uhura’s eyes met Chekov’s, which were widened in shock. Hurriedly, she cut Spock off. “Da.”
“You know to what I’m referring?”
“Yes.”
“And you are prepared?
“…Da.”
A muffled scream came from behind Sulu’s hand, and other officers had to lean forward to keep Chekov from thrashing out of his chair. Uhura grimaced. “Vell, actually…”
“All can be arranged in more detail the next time we meet, Ensign. I look forward to seeing you at 1900 hours. Spock out.”
Sulu quickly withdrew his hand before it could be bitten off as the Russian threw himself out of his chair and gestured wildly towards the whole table. “CRAZY, ALL OF YOU. INSANE!”
“I tried to keep it neutral! I said ‘Da!” Uhura offered defensively.
“A WERY IMPORTANT ‘DA.’” Chekov broke down into a string of Russian which, if Uhura’s face was any clue, followed a drastic line of thought.
“Pavel, Pavel…” Sulu awkwardly stood next to the frantic ensign and grabbed his shoulder. “I know you just got here, and Mister Spock can seem…well, he’s a lot at first. But whatever you promised, Uhura can help you with it.” He looked up to meet Nyota’s glare. “Uhura and I can help you with it.”
********************************************************************************************************
Sulu broke into what he hoped looked like a nonchalant jog as he followed Chekov down the hall. Uhura was keeping a much more leisurely pace behind, taking the time to greet every crewmember they passed.
“Pavel,” Sulu hissed after having to apologize to the fourth redshirt that Chekov nearly plowed into. “You said that you--Uhura--agreed to present your research to Mr. Spock tonight. We can help you finish, you’ve got plenty of time!”
Chekov slowed in front of a laboratory door, nervously looking up and down the corridor, and even taking a peek into an adjacent Jeffries Tube. Uhura gracefully ducked her head to hide her smile. “Research is done, only....too much.”
“Pavel, I don’t--” the door whooshed open and behind him, Sulu heard a particular Klingon expletive.
“Pavel, you’ve only been here a few days!” Uhura cried in dismay, looking at the parts spread across the floor. “This looks like you spent months dismantling this!”
“Well, I guess I can’t make fun of Riley for his lab accident anymore,” Sulu said lazily, picking up a piece of circuitry to inspect. “Remind me to never introduce you to him.”
“This is serious!” Chekov was practically vibrating between the different corners of the room. “I was finishing my research and the machine was slow, so I try to improve it, but then it jammed, and I thought if I took it apart I could find problem--”
“You know who would be best equipped to fix this?” Sulu murmured to Uhura. “One Mister Spock.”
“Oh, hush,” Uhura scolded over Chekov’s wounded cry. “There’s always Mr. Scott. He was just with us, I can go--”
“No, no, no!” Chekov pleaded, his eyes wide. “No senior officers. Nobody important. I cannot risk having the first thing on my record be a demerit!”
“Or an invoice,” Uhura added lightly.
“Thanks for the compliment, Pavel. But neither of us are engineers.”
“Speak for yourself.” Uhura plucked the circuit out of Sulu’s hands. “I’ve done emergency surgery on my array to at least hide most of the damage here.”
“Fix it enough so that some other poor soul will come and break it next. Sneaky.”
Chekov looked as though he were about to faint. “It’s not my intention to--”
“We’re just kidding, Pavel. Grab a hyperspanner. If we’re going to let Mr. Spock in here in time, we’d better hustle.”
********************************************************************************************************
When Mr. Spock entered the environmental sciences lab at 18:58, he found a more sociable scene than he was anticipating.
“Lieutenant Uhura. Mr. Sulu,” he nodded. “What brings you to this part of the ship?”
“Just getting to know the new Ensign, sir. We’ll be out of your way now. Uhura, would you like to join me for dinner?”
“Of course, Hikaru.” Uhura grasped Chekov’s hand for a moment, before placing it firmly on the center of the console plate, giving it an extra press before leaving to follow Sulu. “STAY confident, Pavel, and good luck.”
Sulu waited until they were a whole corridor away before letting his head roll back with a sigh. “He’s going to be trouble.”
“All the good ones are.” Uhura and Sulu reentered the same rec room as before just as a bosun whistle sounded from the wall panel.
“Uhura! I’ll wager my Enolian spice wine that you can’t fool whoever’s on the other end of that one!”
Uhura only paused for a moment before shrugging and making her way over. Sulu shook his head, dumbfounded. “You never learn, do you?”
“Be a dear and fetch my dinner and I’ll share some of the wine with you.”
“Yes, ma’am” Sulu saluted and made his way over to the replicators. He was about to punch in his order when he saw a figure duck behind a receptacle. Curious, he peeked around.
Captain Kirk was hunched over his communicator. “Ensign, you sound unwell. Should I call Sickbay?”
Kirk looked up to glance across the room and immediately met Sulu’s gaze. He smirked, put a finger to his lips, and winked before speaking again. “You really sound congested, Ensign. Don’t make me make this an order.” He then leaned away from the communicator to whisper to Sulu, “Keep quiet about this and I’ll keep quiet about the spice wine.”
“Aye, sir,” Sulu whispered back and turned back to the replicator. The new Ensign might be a handful, but he would fit right in on this captain’s ship.

Nice to Meet You
Chekov x Reader
Modern!au, Coffee Shop!au, University/College!au
Fluff, meet cute?
A/N: This is a short, charming fic I wrote while partially trying to use as many of the classic fan fiction tropes as possible, and also while trying to write another fluffy piece after last times more angsty one. I hope you enjoy this short but sweet fic as much as I did writing it :)
“Um excuse me? I don’t usually walk up to strangers, but are you ok?”
You picked your head up off your notebook resting on the café table to look at whomever the concerned inquiry was from.
“I don’t know. How long have I been sitting like that for?”
“About 20 minuets, miss,” He continued.
That long? You reached out to feel your coffee an arms-length away from where your face was, noting how it’s once steamy temperature had cooled to room-temperature.
Looking back up at the man, you noticed the joix de vivre that radiated from his whole body and how his soft curls fell into his warm, chocolate brown eyes. You had to admit, you were intrigued. In the back of your mind you noted how relaxed and eager he was and how at ease you felt despite a rando walking up to you; still feeling safe despite knowing that if anyone else would have tried to do what he did, there would have been an entirely different reaction.
You cringed at the thought of the cute stranger not only just seeing you sleep on a table, but also became so worried about this that he felt compelled to make sure you were still alive.
“S-Sorry you had to see that. I was working on a paper and I guess that my brain has decided it’s had enough.”
“It’s alright. Brain knows best. Allow me to introduce myself. I am Pavel. Pavel Andreievich Chekov.” He held his hand out to you.
You took his hand, firmly shaking it, “(Y/N) (L/N)”.
“Very nice to meet you, Miss (Y/N).”
“Likewise Pavel.”
You turned back to the mess consisting of your laptop, notebook, pencil case and drink on the table. So much for anymore work getting done.
You inhaled, thinking about how crazy you must seem. “If you don’t mind, I’m going to need to take a break, so I guess what I’m trying to say is..” words stopped coming to your mouth, instead getting stuck in your throat. Come on now, you thought to yourself. You’re majoring in English. Words are you! “do you want to sit down? Like, here, at my table. With me.” The last words came out as more of a squeal, if anything.
“Yes. It would be nice to sit.” Chekov grinned.
Quickly, you packed up your things and moved over to the chair by the open window. The sunlight hit the pane and reflected nicely onto the natural contours of Pavel’s face. The earthy smell from the adjacent park drifted in with the wind that softly danced through your hair.
“So where are you from? I noticed your accent. It’s really interesting.”
“Oh, I’m from Russia. What about you, miss (y/n)?”
“Well, I’m from well, here.”
He threw his head back laughing and you joined in too, because why not? The sun was out, the day was good and you were developing a massive crush on a smart Russian guy with impeccable manners and charm.
“Also though, you don’t have to call me ‘miss’ every time.”
“Its a habit,” he shrugged.
Nodding, you sipped your drink, even though it was a little colder than you would have normally preferred and soaked up the conversation.
“Anyways, I moved here for school. I’m studying astrophysics at the university.” He continued, crinkling his nose.
“Really?”
“Uh, yes really?”
“I’m taking English! We’ve been going to the same place and never have ran into each other. Isn’t that a little bizarre?”
“I’ll have to look up what is ‘bizarre’, but I’m sure that it is.”
“It means strange or-“
Your phone started buzzing from an alarm set. You had completely forgotten that you had promised to go meet some of your friends for dinner tonight.
“I really have to go now, but,” You rummaged around in your bag before pulling out a pen “If you are interested, I’d like to give you my number.”
His face lit up again, making you melt a little more. “Yes please,” he blushed a little more, ducking his head down.
“I really look forward to hearing from you Pavel.”
“And I as well, miss (y/n).”
He walked you to your car and waved to you before continuing on his own way. You sat there for a minute, blushing before wiping your face with your hands. Grinning to yourself, right then you surely knew that you’d be waiting for his call.

Meekness and Throwing Chairs
Fandom: Star Trek
Request from @ potterheadwhoviantrekkiewarstrsh : “ Hi can I make a request that the reader is Russian and is best friends with chekov but has a massive crush on McCoy but the reader is really stuborn and is often sarcastic to the doctor and it is obvious that the two (McCoy and the reader) are in love with each other thanks your last McCoy fix was amazing and the recent poe dameron one too”
Pairing Characters: LeonardMcCoyxReader, Chekov, mentions of Scotty
Words: 1600+
Warning: None? Maybe a curse word? Threat of mild violence? Maybe slightlly OOC Leonard?
Author’s Note: I might’ve used this gif before but I think it suits the story. So, to be honest I’m feeling a bit self conscious about my writing in this one... This one I just had a hard time getting out? I don’t know - things have been weird and hard in my life the past few weeks. But, it’s my birthday tomorrow! So yay. Okay, I’ll stop rambling now. Plz read the story and be gentle...
Tumblr media
“For the last time, I’m not in love with him, Chekov,” you groaned, staring moodily at the food in front of you, “And if you insinuate such a thing one more time I’ll have to find a more creative use for my chair. And you know how creative I am.” To punctuate your threat, you turned your keen eyes to his boyish face menacingly.
It wouldn’t have been the first time you’d thrown a chair at your best friend, which was actually remarkable because in The Enterprise they were all securely attached to the flooring.
Chekov chuckled at your feistiness, though his eyes declared that he’d heard and was heeding your warning. “All I’m saying is you can be surly and abrasive, try to be a bit more hospitable and you might get somewhere…”
“Maybe I’m just surly and abrasive around you. And, oh of course, I’ll be the opposite of myself, because that’s the person I want McCoy to fall in love with. Not the real me of course, couldn’t have that,” you growled back, eyes about rolling out of your head in your annoyance.
Your threat clearly vanished from Chekov’s mind as he smirked ear to ear.
“Don’t you dare look at me like that, or I’ll-”
“See you do love him.”
“Chekov-”
“You want him to fall in love with you, said so yourself in your mocking-yet-truthful-somewhere-deep-down voice.”
Before your sharp tongue had the chance to spit a scathing retort back, your simultaneously worst nightmare and most lovely dream interrupted. “Y/N, what’s Chekov done now to get you all riled up?” He drawled casually, striding up and leaning against the table the two of you shared. Somehow you wanted to violently kiss the delicious smirk off his face, and he was the only one that seemed to inspire these confusing thoughts in your head.
You rolled your eyes and turned your head to face the doctor with amusement, or a least feigned amusement while attempting to conceal your panic stricken insides. “What’s it to you, doctor?”
“Never seen you blush before,” he replied, flicking a finger in the direction of your face before his eyes settled there. That bright, glinting gaze made you want to squirm, suddenly self conscious about that mess you called your hair and not to mention the skin he’d indicated…
“Oh please, I’m not blushing. He has been annoying me though,” you scoffed, attempting to turn back to your lunch, “What did you really need, McCoy?”
The doctor smirked a bit more, but luckily didn’t press the subject and instead answered your question with that lovely southern charm, “Just came to check up on my favorite engineering officer, but don’t you go telling Scotty that, and remind you that you’ve got a check up in the med bay this afternoon.”
“Good thing he reminded you, you’d completely forgotten hadn’t you?” Chekov snickered.
You sent a pointed glare his way and then returned your eyes to McCoy. “I’ll head down to your neck of the woods right after I tell Scotty all about your little betrayal, darlin’,” you declared, imitating his accent with surprising accuracy - it was a stark contrast to your russian one.
He chuckled at you, shooting back, “Alright, darling. See ya, Chekov.”
You couldn’t look at Chekov once McCoy strolled away, not with how your cheeks burned. There’d be no denying that blush, it was as if your entire being flushed that pinkish-red. Normally you had a handle on that sort of thing… What was the deal lately?
When you couldn’t avoid it any longer, you carefully flicked your eyes up only to be met with an even more offensive smirk. “Shut up,” you warned, eyes flaring viciously.
“Going to throw your chair at me?”
“Don’t tempt me. You know I will.”
~
Not long after lunch, you’d almost forgotten about the appointment, again, but quickly headed out of engineering and up to the med bay. The whole way there you kept fidgeting with your hair, or your dress, really anything to keep your hands busy, because you were nervous. Nervous as hell and you couldn’t pinpoint why. It was just a check up, a follow up on your healing wrist. A couple months back there’d been an accident and you’d broken it, but it wasn’t a big deal, not in the slightest. The added time spent with McCoy felt like the big deal…
Inside the med bay, you waved at a few people you knew and they offered smiles and waves in return. Then, McCoy strode seemingly out of nowhere and whisked you away to one of the back rooms. He’d smiled warmly at you and you noticed he hummed a little as he walked. That made you smile to yourself.
“How’s it been feeling?” He asked, referring to your wrist as you sat down.
You offered the appendendage to him, which he took gently. “No change. Aches sometimes, but feels back to normal for the most part, I think.”
McCoy listened to your answer, before returning his attention to your wrist for further examination. His hands were a bit cold, and yet soft against your skin. You couldn’t help considering how he looked rather handsome when focused on something. Well, maybe a bit more so than usual… you’d always thought he was good looking. That wasn’t a crime, nor a reason to get all flustered. Neither was how your stomach flipped a little, excitedly almost, when he was around. No, not at all. Chekov was completely wrong about your feelings for McCoy right?
You truly had been your normal surly and abrasive self around the doctor the entire time you’d known him, but once Chekov started mentioning the way you gazed after him when you thought he wasn’t looking at you, or the way you’d find excuses to imitate his accent, or even the way you never threatened to throw your chair at him… Your best friend seemed to have opened your eyes and you couldn’t figure out how to close them again…
“Now that can’t be,” McCoy said, breaking you from your thoughts, “You’re not blushing again are you?”
Instantly, your heart seemed to stop as your mind raced for some retort. “I haven’t the faintest what you’re talking about,” you attempted.
McCoy grinned and turned back to his console beside the room’s examination table. “You know, you’re beautiful when you blush, well not just when you blush, but…” The man trailed off as he finished entering a few things into the interface and turned back to you.
Your eyes widened in surprise, mind too busy considering if you’d heard right or were simply going mad to realize McCoy had paled nervously.
It’d been your look that made him regret the words… He hadn’t really even planned to say them, but somehow he was feeling daring and they’d slipped out. “Oh, I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have said that-”
“Do you really mean that?” You squeaked.
“Yeah, I did. I do. I guess I’m feeling a bold today. Well, more so than usual,” replied McCoy as he reached up to rub the back of his neck shamefully.
Your eyebrows raised in surprise. “Well, I’m feeling a bit meek today.”
He cautiously raised a hand to your forehead. He would’ve expected you to slap him, throw a chair, or really do anything else but this. Those borderline flirtatious, witty remarks were your trademark, not meekness…
“I’m fine,” you sighed, but made no move to throw his hand off.
“Are you sure about that? Are you really feeling alright? How long has it been since you’ve thrown a chair at someone?”
“Oh, that’s it. Withdrawals, quick find me a chair,” you replied sarcastically, even half smiling slightly.
McCoy returned a larger grin, his aim with that comment fulfilled. “Is that really the problem, darlin’?”
You groaned at first and then once McCoy had settled himself, sitting next to you, you replied, “No, the problem… that would be, you…”
It was the doctor’s turn for his eyebrows to fly halfway up his forehead.
Paying no mind, you kept your eyes on the floor and pressed on, “I can’t seem to keep a clear head around you lately. It’s quite irritating you know.”
“I’ll try to stop being so distracting,” he offered, clear satisfaction laced through his voice.
You snorted and rolled your eyes. “Sure you will.”
He bumped your shoulder with his playfully. “I don’t think I will. I kinda like you all flustered over me. That what Chekov was poking fun at earlier?”
“Yep, the bastard. You know what he’d say right now? He’d pull some line out, like ‘Oh, did you know that actually it was a little old woman in Russia invented whiskey?’ as some daft ploy before he whisks the woman away for a drink.” You scoffed, shaking your head a bit.
“I’ve heard him use that line. Works well from what I gather,” McCoy affirmed, and leaned closer to you, whether consciously or not.
“Is it working now?” That surprised you more than him, and yet it also didn’t surprise you at all. Such a sentence sounded more like your usual self.
He nudged your leg with his own, prompting you to finally meet his eyes. His had mischief behind them, which both scared and excited you. “It’s definitely working.”
“That so?” A fresh surge of blush swept across your cheeks and neck.
“Yes, well that and all the blushing,” he replied, grinning ear to ear.
“Oh, shut-” you hadn’t the time to finish before he brought his lips to yours sweetly. “Up,” you finally uttered once he pulled back though he kept his hand gently cupping your face.
“Hmm,” he chuckled, “What was that? I don’t think I heard you…”
You laughed, not even fighting the goofy smile dancing across your lips. “I said-”
Once again he silenced you with another kiss, one more forceful and passionate than the last. Of course you didn’t mind that one bit. No, you could get used to that and McCoy, well, he was going to make sure you did.

Walking around the garden of your small home in Delphi, Greece, watering the anemone and pulling weeds, you sense a presence behind you. Bending over casually as if smelling one of your flowers, you reach into the slit in your dress and unsheathe the celestial bronze dagger from your thigh holder. With precise movements, you spin in your place and hold the knife to the throat of the person invading your home.
“Am I supposed to feel threatened, demigod?” The Oracle of Delphi stands in front of you in her robes of bronze and scarlet, her face blank. You immediately remove the weapon, re-sheathe it and step back, bowing and then standing, your back straight with respect.
“I apologize, Pythia. I did not know that it was you.”
“Apparently,” she says, looking you over skeptically. “I am surprised you did not use your mother’s weapon.”
You smile sheepishly, twirling the ring on your finger. “You could have been anybody. I don’t want a stranger knowing my secret. Only you and the other demigods at the Temple know that I am half human. Unleashing the weapon could expose me”
“That is wise, young demigod,” she nods in approval.
“I do have a name, Pythia. Besides, I am no younger than you,” you point out.
“I am much older than I look, YN,” she puts an accent on your name and gives a small smirk. “You must be wondering why I have come to you.”
“It has crossed my mind, yes. Is something wrong?”
The Oracle sits down on a nearby bench and gestures for you to join her. You do, and after a few minutes of silence, she starts speaking. “Do you know of the Hurricane Winds?” Remembering the scrolls that you read from during your training when you were young, you nod your head. “So you must remember that they are kept on an island far away from civilization, under the rule of Aeolus.”
“Of course, they are only released when the gods need them,” you recall.
“Two of the Anemoi Thuellai have escaped the island, as I saw last night. Nobody knows how, but they need to be taken back before they cause irreparable damage to the mortal world. You and two other demigods will seek out and capture the storm spirits to be taken back to Aeolus. Your partners for the journey will join you at the Temple of Apollo in two days. Make sure you are ready to leave then.”
And so you were. Two days later, you left your home in the morning and made the walk to the Temple, carrying a pack filled with anything you might need on your journey; clothes, weapons, money, food, and maps of Greece.
You walk into the Temple around noon, the sun brightly shining down on you. Making your way to where the Pythia is, you see her standing with two other people, and you observe them as you walk. The woman is beautiful, dark skin and long silky hair, her almond shaped eyes set off by perfect cheekbones. The man that is with them, though he is clearly younger than you, is handsome as well. Blond hair sits in curls on top of his head, and his bright eyes widen as he catches sight of you nearing the group, a smile gracing his face.
“You must be YN!” he exclaims as you reach them.
“I am. And you are…” you say with an unsure smile.
“Chekov, Pavel Andreievich,” he steps forward and offers his hand, which you shake.
“I am Nyota Uhura,” the woman introduces with a smile and nod of her head.
“It is nice to meet you both.”
The Pythia let you get introductions out but decided to get to business. “The three of you can get to know each other better while on the journey. Right now there are things to discuss.”
Nyota, Pavel, and yourself nod respectfully and let her speak.
“I received a vision from Apollo last night. He told me that you need to consult the Anemoi. They can help you find the venti and capture them, you only have to be respectful of them. There is a boat at the docks waiting to take you to Thrace.”
“Will the wind gods know where the venti are, or do we have to search all of Greece?” Pavel asks, concerned.
“They will be able to tell you where to go,” she answers assuringly.
After this the Pythia walks you out of the Temple, leading you down the mountain and to the dock. The white sails of the ship flap in the breeze, the promise of smooth sailing ahead. Right before you walk up the ramp to board, the Oracle stops you.
“I wish you luck on your quest, may the gods be with you and protect you.”
“Thank you, Pythia. We will do what we have been chosen for,” you say.
You hear Pavel and Nyota also say farewells but you don’t want to eavesdrop, so you walk onto the ship and look around. You notice the captain walk across the deck, and your companions join you as he reaches where you are standing.
“My name is Captain Hikaru Sulu, welcome aboard. It’s an honor to have half-bloods with us,” he says warmly, his face adorned with a smile.
“It’s nice to meet you, Captain,” Uhura says respectfully.
“We are ready to set sail, it should just be a few minutes now.”
“Can we pray before we go? I would like to ask for safe passage from my father,” Pavel asks modestly.
“Of course.”
The four of you gather into a circle on the deck of the ship, your hands joined and heads bowed, and Chekov starts to speak in his thick accent.
“Poseidon, we ask for safe travel over the sea, and for luck with our quest. Please protect my new friends and I as we journey to Thrace, and then wherever else the gods send us.”
With a few words of thanks and a promise to send burnt offerings at the next opportunity, you set off. Captain Sulu shows you to your quarters, three separate bedrooms on the same deck, and you settle in for the long journey, putting away the few things you brought with you and pacing around the room.
You have no idea what you’re up against, and even though you are a trained demigod with strength surpassing that of the average mortal, you are scared of what awaits you.
You head to dinner after failing to rest, your mind far too worked up for that, and are given a plate. You sit down at a nearby table and find yourself accompanied by Nyota and Pavel. You sit with them while they make small talk, content to just listen, but Pavel brings you into the conversation.
“I think we should all get to know each other better. YN, do you want to start? You haven’t talked much.”
“I guess so,” you clear your throat, “I wasn’t raised by my parents. I grew up at the Temple of Apollo, training for the day when I could help people, but this is my first quest. I moved into town when I came of age and have stayed there since.” You shrug, not knowing what else they would want to know about you.”
“What about your godly parent? Do you know who they are?” Nyota asks kindly.
“My mother is Selene,” you tell them. You understand why she asks that second question. Many demigods go their whole lives without being claimed by their parent, though luckily you had been claimed at a rather young age.
“Goddess of the moon! That is very exciting. Poseidon is my father, which you may have heard earlier.” Chekov’s eyes sparkle with silent pride and you nod, chuckling.
“What about you, Nyota? Do you know your parent?” you ask, becoming more invested in the conversation.
“Hermes,” she says with a humble voice. “My father is actually the reason that I study dialect, it comes to me naturally because he is the god of language.”
“That is fantastic! The only thing I can do is swim well,” Pav admits.
They both turn to you, asking silently for your input. “I didn’t get any special abilities, I can’t lead the moon’s chariot or anything like that. I do have a weapon that my mother gave me, I only like to use it when necessary, but it is nice to have.”
You continue speaking to your new friends all throughout dinner, learning more about each other and becoming closer. That night you go to bed with positive thoughts running through your head, your anxiety about the quest held at bay as you fall asleep.
The rest of the trip to Thrace passes quickly. You spend your time learning how to fight in harmony with Nyota and Pavel, listening to the Captain tell stories about his young daughter Demora, and watching the sea pass by from the bow of the boat. Sooner than you realize, you are leaving the ship.
“Be safe, my friends. If you need anything, my crew and I will be in Thrace for another two days, we could take you where you need to go,” Captain Sulu tells the three of you as you step off the ship, clasping a hand on each of your shoulders in a sign of friendship.
“Thank you for your hospitality, Hikaru,” Uhura says sincerely, and you leave, making your way to the cavern of the Anemoi.
When you arrive at the base of Mount Haemus, you look up at it in wonder. The mountain is covered with lush green plant life and clouds encircle the snowy caps, giving the mountain a majestic beauty. You love the view, there’s just one problem.
“We don’t have to go to the top of the mountain, do we?” you question.
“If so, then I am wearing the wrong sandals to hike in,” Pavel chimes in.
“Wait, look!” Nyota points, frowning in consideration at what is happening to the mountain. Slowly lines form and shift in the stone, revealing a grand doorway of gold and midnight blue just a few feet in front of you.
You brave a step toward the door that seems to be opening by itself, but take a step back when you find that someone has appeared in the doorway. The man before you stands tall with a stiff spine and his hands behind his back, his black hair laying over his forehead uniformly.
“Welcome to Mount Haemus, half-bloods. We were sent word of your journey to reach us. Please, come in.” You give a nervous glance to your friends but follow the man as he steps back through the opening. He stands back as the three of you enter and the gilded door closes behind you. “My name is Spock. If you will come with me, please.” Spock turns around and walks down the corridor that you are currently in, causing you to follow him. You only notice after a step or two that there is a pair of wings situated on his back. The torches illuminating the corridor cast off of the black feathers, silhouetting his bird-like appendages every few steps.
To prevent yourself from staring, you turn your gaze to the floor and the shadows playing against the marble tile as you walk. Finally entering a brightly lit cavernous space and looking around, you stand in awe at the marvelous paintings and sculptures, only to notice that Spock had continued walking without you.
You catch up with the group just as they reach the back of the room where there is a platform set above the ground, and on it stands four beautiful thrones, each adorned with different fabrics and precious metals. Only the third seat is taken, and the occupant stands as you near the platform. His hair is wavy and graying. His face is impassive and his eyes watch as you approach, soft gray wings extended out to his sides and radiating authority, even as he stands with a cane.
“Sir, these are the demigods whose journey we were told of,” Spock bows to the man in front of you out of respect and you follow suit.
“Please, stand up. There’s no need to bow.” You follow his request and stand straight. “My name is Eurus, but I go by Christopher Pike around here. Call me whatever you wish, my friends. What can I call you?”
Ny is first to speak up, “My name is Nyota Uhura, daughter of Hermes. It is an honor to be here, sir.” You and Pavel follow her lead and soon introductions are made, the five of you sitting down to dinner at a lengthy table, you and your friends have not eaten since breakfast on the boat. You are joined by two other men, one of them with floppy brown hair and kind hazel eyes disguised by what seems to be a permanent scowl, the other with thinning red hair and a friendly smile. They were introduced as Leonard McCoy and Montgomery Scott, respectively.
You’re waiting for the meal to start, sitting across from Leonard and listening to him talk about the work that Hippocrates is doing in the field of modern medicine, his brown wings rippling as he speaks happily. Another person enters the dining hall, his steps echoing loudly as he rushes to a seat, finding one to your right. He lets out a profanity as he sits on his wings, one only you can hear.
You chance a look as he adjusts in his seat and your breath catches, this is possibly the most beautiful man you have ever seen. His tan skin and golden hair remind you of Apollo, but the striking blue eyes that cast over you hold depths greater even than the sea. You shake yourself out of your daze though when Chris starts speaking.
“Ahh, Jim. I was wondering if you were going to join us for supper, we’ve been waiting for you. YN, Pavel, Nyota, this is James Kirk. He’s the last of my attendants, now you’ve met everybody but my brothers.”
“Sorry I’m late, Pike, I lost track of time while reading through my scrolls. It’s a pleasure to meet everybody.”
“It’s fine, Jim. Let us eat!”
With that, dishes start moving to the table, appearing as if from thin air. The Anemoi act as though it is an everyday occurrence and maybe it is, but you are not used to it and it seems that you’re not the only one.
“How do you get the food to float through the air like that?!” Pavel’s face shows awe and wonder.
“The dishes aren’t floating, the Aurai move them. They’re breeze nymphs, most people can’t see them unless one reveals herself to you. They work here with us,” Leonard tells Pavel, who smiles like he’s just learned a secret.
Food is passed around and wine flows until your stomachs are full and your thirsts are quenched, and then Chris decides to get to business.
“So what is the reason that you’ve graced us with your presence?” he asks cordially.
“It is the Anemoi Thuellai, sir. Two of them have escaped Aeolus’ Isle, and the three of us have been sent on a quest to capture them so they can be taken back. Apollo sent us in your direction, knowing that you would be able to help us locate the storm winds,” you say in a polite voice.
Pike listens as you speak, nodding decisively when you’re finished. “I’ll send some Harpies to scout, they will be back in the morning with the information you need. You are all welcome to stay the night, of course. I will make sure your rooms are ready soon, and the four of you can head out first thing in the morning.”
“Four of us?”
“But there are only three on the quest, sir.”
Pav and Nyota speak at the same time, and Chris just smiles at the confusion.
“I’m sending one of my attendants with you. While I am sure you are very capable demigods, the venti are extremely powerful beings and you may need some help. And I would go myself, but,” he gestures to his cane and his bad leg, “I can’t go on adventures anymore.”
“So which of us is joining the quest?” Montgomery, or Scotty as you had been informed to call him, asks the group.
“I can go,” Jim volunteers without hesitation. He hasn’t left the mountain in a long time and wants to stretch his wings, but that isn’t the only reason that he wants to join. From the moment that Jim Kirk entered the dining room, he has been mesmerized by the ethereal beauty currently sitting beside him, has listened to her speak throughout the meal, and now that he has an opportunity to spend more time with her, he won’t let it pass.
“Are you sure about that, son? It will not be easy,” Pike double checks.
“I’m happy to help, Chris.” Jim gives a bright smile and you’re surprised you don’t melt at the sight.
“Alright then,” Chris claps his hands and stands up, drawing everyone’s attention. “Len, Spock, the two of you gather a party of Harpies and send them to search for the two ventus and get back to me by the morning. We need to know where they are and what they’ve been up to. Scotty, can you help me make our guests’ rooms up?” When he receives affirmations, Pike sends everyone to do their tasks.
“Do I need to do anything, sir?” Jim asks, making to stand from his chair.
“You have a lot to do in the next few days, you should rest for now.” Pike turns and addresses your friends, “I’ll tell you when your sleeping arrangements are ready,” and with that, he walks out of the room.
It’s relatively quiet as you try to come up with something to say. You are already close with Ny and Pav, but you are hesitant to say anything, lest you embarrass yourself in front of Jim. You’re saved from having to fill the silence, though, as Leonard comes to rejoin the group.
“Harpies are on their way out, we should know something by dawn,” he says, sitting back down and reaching for a drink.
“That’s good, the venti have already been gone for so long. The sooner we can get them back to the island, the better,” Ny states.
The conversation picks up after that, just small talk to pass the time, and pretty soon Eurus comes back into the room and informs you that your beds are ready, sending you off so you can rest.
The next morning you peek your eyes open slowly, letting yourself wake fully before getting up and getting dressed. Just as you are securing your weapons in place, you hear a knock on the door to your bedchamber. You are greeted by the sight of Jim standing on the other side of the door, bright eyes shining as he notices you in front of him.
“Good morning,” you greet softly.
“Good morning YN, Chris asked me to bring you to the dining room for breakfast,” Jim says, sending a smile your way.
You nod with a smile, looping your arm through Jim’s, which he offered you. When you reach your destination Jim pulls out your chair for you, making your heart skip a beat at the gesture. You murmur your thanks and earn a nod in return as Jim sits down beside you. Breakfast passes by quietly, bread and honey filling you and giving you the energy you need for the day. Soon after, Pike shares with you what he has learned.
“The Harpies that were sent to scout returned this morning with some news. The two Anemoi Thuellai that have escaped are nearby Chios, an island in the Aegean sea and off the coast of Asia Minor. We do not know why this place has drawn them, but we must stop the storm-winds. They have already caused severe disturbances in the atmosphere and need to be stopped.”
“And how do we stop them? I know we take them back to Aeolus, but how can we capture them?” Pavel asks.
“I will provide you with a bag made of ox-hide to carry the venti in. You must keep both of them busy until they are within close range of each other and then open the bag, they will be drawn in. As soon as they are inside, secure the bag and they will not be able to escape.” Chris allows you to absorb that information for a few moments before speaking again. “Now, do you have transportation to Chios island or shall I arrange for some?”
“We have a friend at the port of Thrace, he said that he would help us, he will still be at the dock,” you tell them of Hikaru and how helpful he has been.
“Wonderful. While I’m getting everything ready to go, you can spar to stay ready for the venti.”
You are led into a large training room in the cavern, covered in mats, a wall to one side loaded down with weapons. You survey the rack of swords, longing to hold the weight of your own again. You feel somebody step up beside you as your finger brushes along the edge of a shined blade, the handle glowing gold.
“It’s beautiful, isn’t it?” you hear Kirk speak reverently by your ear, one of his large hands reaching out to grasp the handle and lifting the sword from its perch.
“It is… it makes me miss using my own.”
“So why don’t you?”
You touch the adamantine ring on your right hand, wishing to unleash the weapon inside. As long as it doesn’t hurt anybody, you think, why not? “I suppose I will.”
You take a few steps and end up in the middle of the floor, looking around to make sure that no one is nearby before closing your eyes and taking a steadying breath. Channeling your energy in a short burst as you exhale, you feel the familiar weight of your blade in your grip and move your hand in a small wave, allowing the sword to swing around in a showy move. You hold it up in front of your face, the crescent-shape of the crossguard glittering in the lights of the room.
Applause breaks out around you, giving you a burst of confidence, and you rotate your sword a few times in the air around you. “Zat is incredible,” you hear Pavel’s unmistakable accent and smile.
“YN, how did you do that,” Nyota asks, impressed.
You shrug, giving a reserved smile. “I told you that I got this from my mother, well… I harness a little bit of energy from the moon and turn the ring into what it was truly made for, protection… I don’t really know how to explain it,” you say, shrugging your shoulders once more.
You look around at your friends grinning back at you, but a breath catches in your throat at the look of absolute awe on Jim’s face. He catches you looking at him though, causing your face to heat up and you to avert your eyes. Clearing his throat he steps forward, reaching a hand out to you.
“May I?”
“Of course,” you answer, thinking that he is going to compare both of your weapons, but before you can pass it over, your instincts kick in and you block the hit that he sends toward you. You bring your arm up to counter-attack, which Jim sees coming and defends. It goes like this for a few minutes before you’re bent over, hands on knees and breathing heavily. Calling it a truce, you reach out a hand to Jim, which he accepts.
Allowing your heart rate to slow back to normal, you look around you. During your sparring match, everybody had dispersed into their own fights and you watch as Nyota gains the upper hand on Spock, but before she can strike, Spock leaps to avoid her weapon, spinning mid-air with his wings folded around him in a protective cocoon before coming down several steps from her. You can’t help it, you clap your hands in admiration for the swift movements and Spock bows stiffly to show his appreciation.
You go over basic fighting maneuvers until Scotty and Chris come into the training room, the former carrying a large satchel in his hands. Chris waves his hands for everyone to gather in the middle of the room and you do, Scotty’s wings fluttering as he merrily explains how to use the special ox-skin to capture the venti.
Once the four of you have memorized the new information, you are sent to gather your belongings from your rooms and prepare to leave the cavern and Mount Haemus behind. Gathering your pack and ensuring that your sword is safely back on your finger, you make your way to the throne room to say goodbye to your host and depart.
Jim leads your group through the corridors, walking to town and back to the docks where you meet Hikaru and his crew once again. “My friends,” he greets with a smile and open arms before his eyes land on Jim standing at the back of the group. If he finds Kirk’s wings to be out of the ordinary he doesn’t let on, just introducing himself in a friendly manner.
Pavel tells Captain Sulu about the information you have received and he plots a course for Chios, setting sail not long after. This trip on the boat passes much like the first, nothing remarkable happening for the entire journey. That is until you are approaching your destination. The closer you get to the island of Chios, the rougher the seas are, sending the ship lurching in the rising waves.
High winds cause the sails to thrash uncontrollably and dark clouds become even more ominous. Sulu steers the ship into an alcove of the island to avoid rocky shores, narrowly being missed by a flash of lightning.
“Where is that storm coming from? The weather was clear only this morning,” Hikaru is confused.
“That would be the venti,” Kirk says darkly, the feathers on his wings bristling.
“I’ve read about the Anemoi Thuellai, but there is not much information about them, only that they wreak havoc over the seas,” Nyota offers.
“I’m guessing that we are about to learn a lot more about them,” Pavel swallows as the ship pitches, and you worry your bottom lip between your teeth.
“So, do we have a plan?” you ask, looking around at your group hopefully.
“Eurus told us to distract the storm-winds and get them close. I think that one of us should control the container while two others lead them to the south side of the island, away from the village. We can meet at the center of the island, opening the bag and drawing them inside. Scotty said that the ties you close it with are magic and will hold for as long as they need to, allowing us to take them to Thrace.”
“Good luck, demigods. I will be here when you get back,” Captain Sulu assures you.
Nyota’s plan is simple, but it’s a good one. Walking off the bridge and out the door onto the deck of the ship along with your friends, you are stopped by a hesitant touch to your arm. Looking back, Jim is behind you, facing you with a look that you can’t decipher. He quickly moves his hand away. A look of determination fills his face then, though his eyes display a softness.
“Be careful, YN,” he says, softer than you had heard him speak before.
“You too, Jim,” you smile, reaching for his hand and giving his fingers a comforting squeeze. Amber wings unfurl and stretch before your eyes, beating against the tempest and taking Jim into the air. You watch as he moves toward the small town on the edge of the island, ensuring that the citizens of Chios are safe and have taken shelter.
You climb over the rail on the port side of the vessel and descend the ladder into the shallow water beneath you, wind pushing waves up over your knees and making it difficult to get to your destination quickly, but you manage. You reach the shore where Ny and Chekov are waiting for you and tie your hair back, preventing the wind from whipping it around.
Nyota double checks that the ox-hide is secured to the belt around her waist and looks at you steadily, her brown eyes unwavering. “You two know what you have to do?” You and Pavel give affirmations and Uhura nods. “Bring the venti my way. Stay safe, and we’ll get these monsters back to where they belong.”
You split ways with Ny, moving alongside Pav to where the typhoon appears to be strongest. You fidget as you walk, twisting your mother’s ring around your finger. Pavel notices and asks if you are alright.
“I’m okay, Pav, thanks. I’m just anxious. I’ve never fought a storm before, and I don’t even know how effective I will be in a brawl,” you lift your arms in exasperation.
“I have no idea what I’m doing either. None of us have had to do this before, not even Jim. The best we can do is to stay level headed and put our minds to work. We will succeed.” Chekov’s assurances help clear your head, giving you confidence for the first time since you left Delphi and you tell him how much it means to you.
As you approach the Anemoi Thuellai, you hear a flapping noise even above the wind and Jim touches down beside you, hair sticking to his face from the rain that you are currently being subjected to.
“Everybody in the village is safe, I told them to stay indoors,” he says before you can ask.
“That’s good, we don’t want anybody hurt that doesn’t have to be,” Pav speaks up.
“These guys are bad news, I got a good look as I was flying overhead,” Jim warns as he removes his sword from its scabbard.
“Let’s do this, then,” you summon a bit of energy and your sword is once again held firmly in your grip. Pavel raises his spear high, letting out a loud yell and gaining the nearest storm’s attention.
That may have been a mistake.
The ventus turns toward your trio and you can barely see it from behind the wind and rain. Their entire form is made up of the storm; dark clouds swirling in a vaguely humanoid shape. Bright balls of light distinguish the beast from the storm it is creating, lightning extending out every few seconds. You look up in horror, guessing your opponent’s height to be around ten feet… far above your height.
The daimone lets out a powerful roar that sounds distinctly like thunder, causing its friend to face you also. Immediately you raise the sword in your hand, swinging at the monster nearest you. You puncture its leg and a bright light erupts from the wound, diminishing the storm clouds, but it only serves to anger it more. Lightning crackles around you and it’s as if you can taste the electricity in the air. You inflict several more wounds, dark gray slowly being replaced by a soft glow, but it’s still not enough.
You turn away quickly, preparing to run, but you’re surrounded before you can move a step. You are shielded from the wind and rain and you open your eyes only to be met by the sight of Jim. His wings wrapped around the both of you protectively and you have to stop yourself from thinking about how /soft/ they are.
You’d lost track of your friends as you fought, but Jim had been circling in the air, hitting the ventus’ defense and came to help when your adversary got too close. You still heard Pavel fighting the other monster a few hundred feet away. You look back at Jim, his face holding concern for you and you answer his unasked question.
“I’m alright.”
“Okay YN, now we need to run, we have to get over to Nyota. She’s waiting with the satchel, and I think the venti are mad enough now to chase after us. When I let you go I need you to run to the rendezvous point. I will be behind you and Chekov the whole time if you need my help.”
“Thank you,” you say breathily and lean forward to place a chaste kiss on Jim’s lips, not even noticing as his jaw goes slack in shock and happiness.
He unfurls his wings from around you after you return your sword to its original form, and you do as you were told, making a break for it. “Pav!” you yell, indicating for the younger man to follow after you. It takes a few moments but you feel his steps sync up with yours and hear him panting in exertion. You look behind you to confirm that the venti are following you and they are, their energies sparking off one another.
Facing forward again, you empty your mind of thoughts and worries and just let yourself breathe, losing yourself in the action of placing one foot in front of the other and find yourself looking at Nyota in the distance.
The world around you becomes a blur as you close in on Ny and the venti advance on the three of you. The next thing you know you’re looking up at the suddenly clear sky from between Jim’s arms, the ox-skin glowing as the storm-winds try to escape the magic containing them.
“We did it,” Pavel mutters to himself almost disbelieving, and then shouting. “We did it!”
You giggle at his excitement and allow yourself to catch your breath, tucking your head into Jim’s shoulder and reveling in the victory.
“We thank you for the help you have provided us on this quest, we will be forever grateful for your hospitality, sir,” Uhura addresses Eurus as the four of you stand in front of the platform in the throne room of Mount Haemus.
“It was my pleasure, Nyota. Thank you for bringing the venti back, now Spock has been able to return them to their isle. You are all welcome to stay as long as you wish, we need some excitement around here.” Pike addresses all three of you, but his gray eyes sparkle as they linger on you and Jim standing so close to each other. Your cheeks warm and you tuck a strand of hair behind your ear, averting your eyes.
You and Jim had become extremely close on the trip back to Thrace, staying up late talking, sharing your love for the stars, and getting to know each other better, so much that you began to let yourself imagine spending more time with him.
“We appreciate it, Chris. If it is acceptable, we would like to stay for a few days before making our way back to Delphi. We have been traveling for so long, and Captain Sulu and his crew need time to rest before setting sail again.”
“Any time. Your rooms are still ready from when you were last here. I will see you all at dinner,” Pike dismisses you all. You grab your bag and head for your quarters, but a voice stops you before you are halfway there.
“YN, can we talk for a few minutes?”
Jim’s voice is timid and you stop walking, curious. “Of course.”
He leads you to a library, large shelves displaying different texts and tables covered in scrolls. You take a seat at one of these tables and wait for him to speak. You can see him thinking through how to phrase his words, opening his mouth and closing it a couple times. After a few minutes, you decide to try and get him to spit it out.
“Jim,” you say softly, approaching his pacing form, and his wings flutter as he turns to face you and you smile. “Are you okay?”
This seems to do the trick, as he finally speaks what is on his mind.
“Would it be ludicrous if I asked you to stay with me? Here at the cavern, I mean. I know you have a home in Delphi and I wouldn’t want to tear you away from that, but,” he can’t seem to find the words for a moment, “I think I love you. It may seem laughable, but I have been enamored since I laid eyes on you, and fallen more and more each time we talk. I don’t want you to feel pressured into staying here, but if you want… you have a place at Mount Haemus.”
As Jim finishes his monologue, you turn your gaze to him. You had been trying to process his words, and looking into his sincere eyes, you believe him. Jim isn’t someone who would lie about something so serious, but you’re still shocked. You had never thought of yourself as anything special, your mother’s blood and protection the only thing that set you apart, but the way Jim is looking at you tells you differently. Thinking back on it, he had only ever looked at you in adoration and respect.
As you are evaluating your own feelings, Jim is silently freaking out. Did he read you wrong, and you weren’t really interested in him? Was that too much to dump on you all at once? The mute environment is too much and after a few minutes, Jim really has to say something.
“YN?” You look up into his vulnerable face, watching as he tries to deduce your thoughts. After a moment, though, he gives up. “I’m sorry.”
“What are you sorry for, Jim?”
“I… shouldn’t have rushed all of that out. I can give you time to think-”
“I love you too,” you interrupt him before he can take his invitation back, “what more is there to think about? I would love to stay here with you, if you’re still offering.”
“I am still offering,” he speaks hurriedly, reaching his arms around you in an embrace. After a minute he pulls away, brow furrowed. “What about your life in Delphi though, your friends and family?”
“I don’t have any family back there. And my friends, they are here with me. If I stay, they will surely come visit. And if I haven’t imagined it, Spock and Nyota seem to be getting familiar. I doubt it will be long before something happens between those two,” you chuckle.
“Are you sure you want to be with me,” he asks, his eyes gleaming with hope.
“I am sure. I love you, Jim,” you murmur.
The moment between the two of you changes and you feel yourself leaning towards him, your lips touching briefly. You open your eyes when you feel Jim pull back, but soon enough his lips are back on yours and your senses are engulfed by all of him.
“Let’s go tell everyone the good news, shall we,” he says, his voice husky with desire, “or better yet, maybe I can show you to your room first…”
You shudder at the unspoken proposition and lean into him further, placing a kiss to his jaw “I really like that second option…” and giggle as you take the lead down the hallway to your bed, ready for a long life ahead of you spent with Jim.
Post-A/N: So what did you guys think? I hope you enjoyed reading this! It took me so long to write, and I know it’s pretty long, but I am so glad you stuck with me ‘til the end. I know that it’s not perfect, I probably got a lot of details wrong and also left some characters in the background, but I tried. Really hard. I need sleep...
I wrote this in the present tense, as you can see. If you have a preference about which tense I use (past/present/both) then I can try to do that next time., this one just turned out this way. I hope you all have a lovely Valentine’s Day!

Request: Can I get a Star Trek imagine? Reader works in engineering and is close friend with Scotty. When Chekov starts shadowing Scotty he meets the reader and a friendship quickly forms because they are both chipper balls of sunshine. notices that their friendship could become something more with a nudge in the right direction. Soon the Scotsman has get the two together. Just something super silly and fluffy. - @peacebuglove
A/N: I don’t have anything to say about this story, but I feel it’s important that you all know that the kazoo was not invented in Russia, but in fact was invented in Georgia by a man named Alabama.
You pressed down on the receiver on the wall to silence the beeping.
“Live from the Alpha Quadrant, it’s the extraordinary Ensign (Y/L/N). Tactical, you’re our first and favorite caller. Talk to me,” you said, in an your best  impression of a talk radio host.
“Hi. This is Ensign Melnick. Long time listener. First time caller. One of our terminals is glitching,” the officer on the other end played along.
“Well, Melnick, that certainly is quite the pickle. Have you considered turning it off and back on again?”
“I have.”
“I’ll talk to the all powerful Lieutenant Commander, see if we can’t get someone up there to help you out,” you told him.
“Thank you. Tactical out.”
“Ye do know yer crazy, right?” Scotty asked from the panel he was working on beside you.
You smiled but otherwise ignored the question. “You want me to go take care of that?”
He shook his head.
“Are you sure? I could fix it and be back before you can ‘(Y/N), you deserve a promotion’. I could even grab lunch on the way back.”
“Yer in the middle of a diagnostic,” he reminded you.
“Ok, but after I finish, I’m going to get us some lunch.”
“Ye’ll get no arguments from me.”
You started to walk back to the computer you had been at before the call, but stopped when a bright yellow shirt caught your attention. You had seen the boy in it around the engine room more and more over the past few months, usually talking to Scotty when you weren’t.
“Scotty, did you get a sidekick without telling me?” you asked.
“I haven’t gotten a new sidekick since you.”
“I like to think of myself as the protagonist of our story, thank you very much.” You looked back up to the curly haired boy who looked like he belonged on the bridge. “Do you have a stalker then?”
“What are ye goin’ on about.” He looked up and followed your gaze. “Oh. That’s just Chekov.”
“But why is he here? Not that I don’t think he should be here. He can be wherever he wants. But he’s dressed in gold, which usually implies a certain amount of not being here,” you babbled.
“Chekov!” Scotty called out getting the boy’s attention. “Come down here, lad.”
The navigator jogged down from the catwalk.
“Yes, Mister Scott?”
“Please tell (Y/N) that you are not a stalker.”
Chekov gave him a puzzled look, but did as he asked anyway, followed by, “I thought you vould be shorter.”
“Why?” you asked, suddenly very aware of your exact height.
“He always calls you ‘vee’,” Chekov told you.
“He talks about me?” You turned to Scotty. “You talk about me?”
He shrugged.
“That’s so sweet!” you grinned.
“I’d tell ye not to let it go to yer head, but it’s a tad late for that, extraordinary ensign.” He started to move past the pair of you to a computer terminal. “Why don’t you walk ‘im through yer diagnostic.”
“Vat are you running a diagnostic on?” Chekov asked.
“The graviton field generator,” you told him.
“I have not vorked vith ze graviton field generator.”
“Well, come on!” You practically bounced back to your station. Being an ensign, you rarely got to show others the ropes. “We’re still getting some residual charge readings from yesterday’s incident, so I’m running a level three diagnostic.”
“Level three? Is zat necessary?” he asked.
“If this was just a maintenance check it wouldn't be.” You tapped at the screen. “Level threes really aren't as bad as people make them out to be. I think they're fun.”
“Me too,” he admitted.
You smiled at him over your shoulder, before starting to go over the read outs. You pointed out the readings that you wouldn't get with a level one diagnostic.
-
“Zat one.” Chekov pointed to a dial on the wall.
“This one?” you asked pointing at a different one.
He shook his head and pointed at the first dial again. “Zat one.”
“This one?” you asked, reaching for a levor.
Scotty had you help teach Chekov one of the systems while he went to a meeting. A choice he was sure he would soon regret. You had spent most of that time messing with him or going on long tangents that only had a 50% chance of looping back to your original statement.
“No, zat-” he stopped himself. “You know vat dial I am talking about.”
“Yeah,” you smiled. “I think you know this system well enough. In fact I think you know the whole ship forwards and backwards. Which means it’s time for a snack break. I’m in the mood for doughnuts”
“But Mr. Scott,” he said warily.
“He’ll be fine with it if we bring him one.” Now that you had mentioned doughnuts, you were determined to get one. Taking Chekov’s hand in yours, you towed him along behind you as you headed for the lift. “You seem like a jelly filled kinda guy to me.”
He stared at your joined hands, but didn't let his shock at the act of affection show in his voice. “I love jelly filled doughnuts! Especially ze purple ones!”
Almost every engineer on duty knew when you got back. Your collective laughter came close to drowning out the sounds of the engines completely. Scotty waited at the main console for you to tell him some excuse for leaving your post. The truth of the matter was that he didn’t really care. As long as everything was in working order, he was a lot looser with his command. All he asked was that when the time came, everyone was ready to work with no questions asked.
“The kazoo was not invented in Russia,” your tone was somewhere between irritation and amusement, “Don’t take this from me, goldie.”
“And where have ye been?” Scotty asked.
“We went to get doughnuts.” You held out a plate for him, smiling brightly. “We brought you some!”
“Zis one’s creme filled.” Chekov pointed at the one on the left.
“And this one’s apple cinnamon,” you added.
“Ohh.” His fingers danced over to the plate. “Thank you.” He picked up a doughnut and stuck the edge of it in his mouth, waving you off. “Go do something.”
“We’re gonna go to the jefferies tube where the gravity's flipped to uh,” you searched your mind for a good reason for the two of you to go there.
“Run tests,” Chekov finished. Laughter still clung to the edges of his words, despite the two of you trying to seem professional.
“Yep. Uh huh. Gotta get that fixed,” you nodded.
“Aye, sure that’s what yer doin’.” He shook his head in amusement at the sight of the two of you scurrying off, giggling and joking the whole way.
-
“I vant to see ze mooooon,” Chekov recited, proudly.
“That was terrible,” you laughed despite yourself.
“That’s the point,” he said, waving his screwdriver at you. “That and making you smile.”
“That was almost cheesier than your jokes.” You shoved his shoulder with yours, but you couldn’t help your smile widening a bit at his comment.
He chuckled, handing you the decoupler before you had to ask for it. Over the last couple weeks, the two of you had gotten in a groove while working together. You worked in perfect harmony, laughing and joking without ever letting your work slip.
“So this is what Chekov does with his time of?” Kirk asked Scotty, who was pretending not to be watching to two of you. “Flirt with your engineers?”
“Aye, but just the one as of late,” Scotty answered.
“Really?”
The two men shared a knowing look that was interrupted by you shouting out a “Captain!” and moving to stand at attention. Chekov followed your lead, stumbling in his haste to get to his feet.
“At ease, ensigns,” Kirk ordered. “Just stopping by to see how things are going down here.”
“Zey are good, Keptain,” Chekov said.
“Better than good,” you said. “Great!”
“Yes, yes,” Chekov agreed enthusiastically. “Ze things are great!”
“That’s what I like to hear. As you were.” He nodded at you as you went back to work. “How long do you give it?”
“They'll be together before we reach Starbase 65, sir.”
“You're going to meddle, aren't you?” Kirk asked, amusement dancing in his eyes.
“Aye, sir, I'm going to meddle.”
-
Sliding down to the floor, you let your head loll back against the pipe behind you. You took a deep breath and waited for the panic and chaos from the battle you had just scraped through to leave you. The absence of shouts and alarms was deafening, making the ambient sound of the engines sound twice as loud. Frantic footfalls echoed through the room, but you kept your eyes on the ceiling, wanting a few more seconds of peace.
“Are you alright?”
The familiar accent took the dread over dealing with how everything was running right out of you. You couldn’t help the smile that spread across your face when a head full of curly hair came into your line of sight. It was the first time in almost a month that you hadn’t worked at his side. Without you noticing, your shift had been moved around to you were only on duty when he wasn’t, leaving him free to be in engineering.
“Did you run here all the way from the bridge?” Part of you wasn’t even surprised. He always seemed to be where he was needed.
“Yes. I vas,” he rubbed awkwardly at the back of his neck, “vorried about you.”
You tried to form a response but all you could do was beam at him. Luckily, that seemed to be enough for him and he sat down next to you on the floor and let out a long sigh.
“That was eventful,” you stated, still staring at the maze of tubes, pipes, and cat walks above you.
Out of your peripherals you saw Chekov nodding in agreement.
“Vant to get some doughnuts?” he asked.
“A dozen each.”
“Make it a baker's dozen.”
“With extra sprinkles!”
Scotty walked up to you, placed his hands on his hips, and looked down at the two of you. After a couple seconds he nodded. “Come on then.”
You pointed up at him, your finger following him as he started to walk away. “He’s got scotch and whiskey.”
“Much better plan,” Chekov said.
Getting up, the two of you followed him to his office. By the time the two of you were in the room, Scotty was already pouring a second glass. When finished pouring out a third, he handed you each one and lifted his up.
“To a ship that can wrassle with the worst of ‘em!”
The room filled with echoes of the sentiment and praises of the ship.
The second you had emptied your glass, you filled it back up, clinked it against Chekov’s, and yelled, “To navigators who get us out of Romulan space!”
“To not being dead!” Chekov said when he moved on to the next glass.
Scotty and you cheered and brought your drinks back to your lips. Chekov swallowed, but then something occurred to him and he got to his feet, setting his glass on the desk.
“Where ya goin’, goldie?” you asked.
“Ve need snacks. I vill be back,” he told you, walking from the office. “Do not drink too much vithout me, red.”
With a snort, Scotty took a sip. His expression told you he knew something you didn’t. He never kept secrets from you - mostly because he was terrible at lying and had a habit of blurting whatever it was out before you had the chance to ask- so whatever this was had to involve you.
“What?” you asked.
“Nothing.” His wry tone only served to make you want to push him more.
“What?” you asked again this time drawing the word out until it was almost unrecognizable.
“Just you two.”
You quirked a brow. “Us two?”
“Yer always together, laughin’, jokin’. Ye’ve got nicknames. It’s all just a little,” he moved his glass around like it would hit the word he was looking for, but it didn’t.
“A little what, Scotty?”
“Och, ye know what.”
You pursed your lips and shook your head.
“Quit actin’ like ye dinnae ken what I’m talkin’ ‘bout.”
You let out a puff of air. “You’re talking about us in a,” you held up a finger on either hand and moved them next to each other, “sorta way, aren’t you?”
“Aye!”
You bit your lower lip and stared into the golden liquid in your hand. “I don’t think that’s gonna happen.”
“And why not?” From his tone, you could tell he had put some thought into your relationship with Chekov.
“Because he so smart and his hair’s so curly.” You took a long drink. “Besides he doesn’t feel that way about me.”
Scotty shook his head in dismay. “The boy runs the length of the ship in five minutes for ye and ye don’t think he feels that way.”
“Well, that’s just… a really good point actually,” a small smile slowly started to spread across your face. “You really think he might?”
“Och, I more than think. I’m damn sure.”
“Huh. What’da know?” you tried to keep the giddiness from your tone, but failed.
-
“Ok, give it back now,” you whined as Chekov picked your report apart. All you wanted was for him to read over it, before you turned it in, but instead you were transported to an eleventh grade AP English class peer review. And he was practically cackling as you got more and more upset.
“No,” he said holding your PADD at arms length, “you asked me to read it, so let me read it.”
“I changed my mind.” You reached out for it, but he pulled it further out of reach.
“You can have it back when I have finished.” He held it up above his head, reading it at an angle that could not have been comfortable.
You stepped forward, crowding his space and reaching for your PADD again. Chekov tilted his face down to you, in doing so brushed his nose against yours. In that moment of closeness, all doubts about how he felt melted away. In fact all thoughts at all melted away, and you were left with nothing but impulse and instinct.
Dropping one of your hands to his chest, you bunched the gold fabric of his uniform up in your fist and tugged him impossibly closer. With your other arm, wrapping itself around his shoulders, you tipped your chin up and pressed you lips to his. In an instant, Chekov had a hand on your waist, keeping you as close to him as he could.
Far too soon, pulled back, sliding your hand down his arm until it reached his. You smiled at his change in expression. All traces of smugness gone.
“Can I have my PADD back now?” you asked in a softer voice than you had been using.
“Uh uh.” He dropped it on your desk and pulled you back into him. “Ve can vork on zat later.”
“Is Pavel Chekov, textbook workaholic, suggesting we procrastinate?” you teased.
“I have other priorities now.”

Daydreaming (Leonard McCoy x reader)
You sighed, standing up from a table in the med bay smoothing down your short blue dress. It had been a long day of red shirts getting hurt for no reason at all, writing reports, and tracking down various crew members for physicals, mainly Captain Kirk, who only came when he was threatened with a hypo. And not to mention, you had a hard time focusing on your work with a certain southern doctor around.
That's right, Leonard McCoy, or "Bones" as everyone called him. To everyone else he may be a gruff moody doctor, but you thought he was wonderful. You loved his rough attitude, his dark eyes, his handsome face, and that accent made you just melt.
"Nurse Y/N." Sigh. You could even hear it in your head.
"NURSE Y/N! THE REPORT PLEASE!" You jumped up, and quickly snapped out of your day dreaming to see Dr. McCoy clearly annoyed. Whoops.
"Sorry sir, here you go." You squeaked shyly, handing him the pad, mortified that you had gotten yelled at by your crush.
He sighed, running his hand through his hair. Damn he was hot! "It's alright nurse, it's been along day for us all." You blinked, surprised. He was being nice to me? "Go on ahead, I'll take care of the captain's physical. Don't need him flirting with any of my good nurses today anyway." He said gruffly, taking the PADD from you.
He's being nice to me and he doesn't want the Captain to flirt with me. Your subconscious determined, and you swooned inwardly. You squeaked a quick thank you before walking out, blushing. That had to be a good sign! You walked to the ships mess hall, trying not to bump into anyone. The last thing you needed was to go back to medbay when you were already so flustered.
"Y/N! Over here!" You looked up from your food to see Uhura waving in your direction, who was sitting with Sulu and Chekov. You had known all of them from the academy and had been so excited when you were assigned to the enterprise together. 2 years into the 5 year mission and you were all good friends. You sat down next to Uhura, still distracted, and poked at your food, partially listening to the conversation.
"What is the matter Y/N? You haven't said a word since you sat down. Dr. McCoy giwing you trouble?" Pavel asked. "The opposite actually, he let me off early today and was being nice." You said, poking at your food, smiling. "Dr. McCoy was nice? I find that hard to believe." Said Hikaru.
"Oh, I don't know, I think it's not so surprising. When you think about he is being nice to." Uhura said, winking at me.
"I don't know what you are talking about." You muttered, blushing. "Anyway, it's been a long day." You said, standing up. "See you guys tomorrow."
You walked down the hallway heading for your room, thinking about what Uhura had been saying. You seriously doubted that he was being nice to you for any special reason, but it still made you hope, and daydream. Which reminded you of an old song from the 21rst century. “Got me, day dreaming. With my chin in the palm in my hands about you, you, and only you.” You sang softly. Only your parents knew that you had a beautiful singing voice, but you were too shy to sing in public.
“I didn’t know you could sing Y/N.” you jumped and quickly turned around.
“Captain! No I, that is...”  you stumbled, embarrassed.
“It’s alright, in fact I’ve been looking for someone with a beautiful voice to help me out with something.” He said, flashing you one of his award winning smiles.
“Captain, with all due respect I am not interested in you that way.” You said quickly brushing off his advances.
“I wasn’t asking for a date; I’m asking for a voice. We are having a little party to celebrate an old earth tradition, Valentine’s Day. I thought it would be nice to have a live singer, just for a few songs at least. And, Bones will be there.” He said, smiling mischievously. He had unfortunately found out about your little crush on a visit in med bay.
You couldn’t help but blush at the idea, and found yourself agreeing. The captain set off to gather song requests so that you could have a good idea of what to sing. You requested that he didn’t tell anyone who was singing yet, you didn’t want to be bombarded and get chickened out. The captain had also said that he would try to keep a portion of the rec area of the ship closed later at night so you could get a chance to practice in an open area.
For the next few days, you were filled with excitement and nerves. You found yourself even more focused than usual, which was quite strange. Dr. McCoy had even found himself complementing you recently, which only made you more determined to practice harder.
After another very long day of work, you went down to the rec to practice. Most of the songs that had been requested where fairly easy to sing and you already knew them, so it wouldn’t be very difficult. However, you had wanted to pick your own song to do that was more you style. That meaning an old classic. After looking up some of the greatest love songs ever written and looking in your own files, you narrowed it down to 2. La vie en rose, an old French song, and Can’t help falling in love with you.
You knew the French version of the song so the speaking wouldn’t be a problem, but not many people would know what you were saying so if you pronounced it wrong you could get away with it. But the other one was a classic that you didn’t want to mess up. You eventually decided that you would go with the one that sounded the best. Taking a deep breath you decided to start in french first. "Quand il me prend dans ses bras Il me parle tout bas, Je vois la vie en rose. Il me dit des mots d'amour, Des mots de tous les jours, Et ça me fait quelque chose."
A noise behind you made you jump, and you turned around to see none other than Bones behind you,  who had apparently heard your singing. Oh crap!

A/N: I’M BACK BITCHES.....was...was that too much? I’m sorry. But I am, getting my mojo back....slowly....with a story that isn’t on my request list......yeah...but hey this is something and I love Pavel Chekov, look at this cutie. And this fits in with @outside-the-government Trekfest for Chekov’s week!!
Additional Note: I know you can’t make helium, but they are in the future. And it’s pseudo-science. Deal with it.
Additional note pt2 : Shout out for @frostedej for giving me inspiration by sending me this idea “Not a request...just imagine trolling the hell out of the others with Chekov via helium.” Thank you, because I think I got my creative juices flowing again because of this.
Summary: Pavel Chekov is an overachiever and goes to great lengths to get you a fun birthday gift.
Warnings: None, just fluff
Paring: Chekov/ Reader
Word Count: 1180
You felt a gentle pair of hands land on your shoulders while you were in the midst of a conversation. You tilted your head up towards the person behind you, receiving a gentle kiss on your cheek. “Happy Birthday,” the heavily accented voice drifted into your ears. “I didn’t see you this morning, would’ve wished you then.”
You turned fully from the person who you were talking to, not they minded everyone on the ship was rooting for the youngest couple on the ship. They all thought you were adorable, more importantly, they were just glad to see Pavel hang on to a girl for once. “I know but Hikaru called me into the botany lab, Alexander was apparently wilting. He’s alright though.”
Pavel laughed, his grin spreading wider, “Hikaru or the plant?”
“Both,” you laughed back. “Are you off shift?” You asked putting a hand on his arm.
He nodded, “That’s why I came to get you. I have a surprise for you in my quarters.”
“Oh no,” You laughed as he pulled you up. “The last surprise you had for me singed your curls,” you teased gently pulling at the spiraling strands.
“Okay, yes, that was a mistake! I’ll be the first to admit it. But this! This is, dare I say, my best work.” You laughed, waving to your friend as Pavel pulled you along. You darted down the halls, receiving strange looks and shaking heads as you passed. He stopped you at his door placing his hands on your shoulders. “Close your eyes.”
“What,” you stuttered looking at him sharing his grin. “Come on Pash, just show me!”
“No, it’s a surprise! Close your eyes,” you sighed complying, but Pavel stepped behind you placing a hand over your eyes as he typed in his code. You reached up and wrapped your hands around his forearm, as you pushed your back into his warm chest.
“I like this, is this the surprise,” you teased as he pushed you forward into the room.
“Nyet,” he sighed wistfully before leaning down to put his lips next to your ear, “That comes later.” He took his free hand and wrapped it around your waist, while his warm breath brushed your face. He gave you a quick peck on the cheek before speaking, “Ready?”
You nodded eagerly and he pulled away the hand from your eyes. As you blinked against the light, his surprise came into view. About a hundred, maybe more, balloons of all colors nestled against the ceiling. “Oh my God. Pavel,” you whirled around to face him and he was just grinning with his arms open. You stepped in them hugging him tightly, of course, he reciprocated, kissing your head as you hugged. “How, how did you manage this? I thought we didn’t have helium on the Enterprise!?”
“We don’t. Well didn’t until I might have synthesized some.”
You looked at him critically, “How the hell did you get access to the labs to do this for me,” you asked pulling a balloon down and holding it in your hands.
“We anyone will let the sweet, knowledge chasing whiz kid shadow them if he shows interest.” Pavel shrugged headed to sit on his bed. “And Doctor Helson thought it was endearing that I found an interest in chemistry, even more, endearing when I just wanted to make a nice gift for my girlfriend.”
You gasped at him, “Pavel Chekov are you using Doctor Helson just to get me balloons!? That’s,” he raised his hand to quiet you as he laughed.
“Neyt, Neyt,” he cried waving his hands out in defense. “I’m loving chemistry! Loved it in the Academy! This is a wonderful plus.”
“How long have you been shadowing Doctor Helson, Pavel? I know her, she doesn’t let just anyone waltz in and out of her labs.” You asked reaching out to play with his curls.
“How long have we been dating? Almost a year? Yeah, about a year or so.” You stared at him in surprise, amazed he would do such a thing for you.  You two fell silent for a minute, your hands gently combing through the thick tuft of hair as he hummed in appreciation.
“This is an amazing birthday gift. Thank you,” you kissed his cheek gently.  Lowering yourself into his lap to sit. “I didn’t realize you were paying attention when I said I loved balloons. In fact, I was drunk, we were at that security party right? We weren’t dating Pav.”
Pavel blushed, rubbing the back of his neck. He shrugged saying, “Well, I’ve liked you a really a long time. And well,” he started to flounder only muttering ‘ums’ and ‘uhs’
“Stop, I know it. I love you too.” You stood up and grabbed a balloon and handed it to him. “Wanna suck some helium? I want to hear that adorable accent all squeaky.”
Pavel looked at the balloon then you, slowly he took into his hands, “Alright,” Pavel untied the balloon holding it tightly. Gently bringing the balloon to his lips, inhaling deeply before he opened his mouth again. His voice pitched up high, “My name is Ensign Pavel Chekov, nawigator of t-the,” Pavel started laughing about the same time you did, laughing even harder at the sound of his usually raspy laugh sounding so squeaky. “The United Starship Enterprise.”  His voice returning to normal near the end.
You two spent the next 15 minutes or so sucking the helium out of several balloons, laughing to the point of tears, clutching onto one another as you fell back on the bed. Gasping for air, you looked into those charming gray eyes, no words needed to be exchanged, you both could read the expression perfectly.  But you felt a need to anyway, “I love you, Pavel Chekov.”
“I love you too. Happy birthday,” He leaned over the small distance capturing your lips in his.
Pavel chuckled as you chased his lips when he pulled away, “say it again,” you instructed.
“I love you.”
You shook your head, ”With the helium.”
Pavel rolled his eyes and stood to reach for a balloon. As he breathed in his communicator on his wall beeped and the Captain’s voice rang through the small space. “Kirk to Chekov” Without any thought he rushed over to respond, what Kirk next was a very high and unfamiliar voice and then hysterical laughing in the background. “Pavel is that you?”
“Y-Yes!,” Pavel gasped as he tried to clear the gas from his vocal cords. “Yes, sir! It’s me I’m just with,” he started to explain.
“I know who you are with, I can hear her laughing. Anyway, I need you to confirm a few routes we need to take. Please read through and sign off as soon as possible.”
“Yes sir, no problem,” Pavel confirmed.
“Thank you, Mr. Chekov. Oh and tell Y/N happy birthday for me. Have a good evening you two.”
Pavel laughed as he looked towards you, eyes filled with indescribable love and passion. “I don’t know if we could have any other night, sir.”

Strela Amura- Chekov x Reader
A/N: So sorry about how late this is, I’ve just been really busy at Uni. Anyway, She’s Kirk’s sister but also not Kirk’s sister. It’ll make sense, trust me. ut my favourite thing about the OS has always been the time-travel episodes, like???? What a gift to Humanity. So here’s me playing with that space time continuum.
Also. It’s Eurovision time!!!! Sorry not sorry for nearly winning last year btw. Anyway, you know what that means? Time to listen to my Eurovision husband’s entire discography. Like it’s such a cute Chekov-y song, bless.
Also key word: Chekov tries to save her
Title: Strela Amura (Cupid’s Arrow) Inspiration: here (x) Tags: Fluff, kinda-kirk’s-sister-but-kinda-not, pre-romanov decline russia, TIME TRAVEL MOTHERFRICKERS, ridiculous bustle skirts are my aesthetic Words: 1500+ Masterpost: here (x) Prompt List: here (x) Mixtape Archive: here (x) Original Request: (x) - Could you do a thing where reader is Kirk’s younger sister (or other relative), that isn’t part of Starfleet, and gets taken by the big bad, and Chekov saves her? Then fluff?

Стрела Амура
Most senior students at the Starfleet Academy dreaded the ‘Little Sibling’ program; in which a senior, slowly struggling and watching their very soul leave their bodies were forced to pair up with some innocent, optimistic first year who had yet to see their life force choked from them due to obscene assignment due dates.
You were rather surprised to have found yourself partnered with a one James Tiberius Kirk, as he had introduced himself, a coffee in hand and dark circles under his eyes. You were a little intimidated, admittedly, but he was as supportive as you could have hoped for and Jim was genuinely wonderful. He would always remember your exam dates and check up on your actual dates and was always there to hold your hair back and cover for you if a party got too wild. Or there to ruffle your hair in pride as you passed that one maths class you always seemed to flunk exams for. He even kept in contact as he graduated, sending you updates as he traversed the expansive galaxy, promising that if you did well, you would score a place on the prestigious Enterprise crew.
He somehow convinced your parents that a certain trip-that-shall-not-be-named was actually a Scientific Field trip. You didn’t want to know exactly how he did it, but your mother was still singing the praises of ‘Darling James’ and considering adopting him.
But things went to hell part-way through your study. You left, much to your parents’ disappointment, hoping that you’d be better than the rest of your family, hoping you could be their chance to one-up your cousins that the grandparents always seemed to favour. But it was simply… you simply couldn’t deal with the reality of the Khan incident, it had hit far too close to home and you had lost far too many friends who had graduated. Space seemed far too cold, too brutal and too cruel to your tastes and while you still adored the endless possibilities, you weren’t sure what to do if you’d lost-
No matter. Perhaps what was most important that Jim had said it was the bravest thing you’d ever done, to know what was important and what was best for you. And he still updated you, sending over photographs on your PADD, every message ended with a little smiley.
“WHAT DO YOU MEAN MY BABY SISTER’S ON THAT TEAM!?” Chekov was genuinely confused, no scratch that, the entire Bridge seemed confused at the Captain’s outburst.
There had been a temporal anomaly, the ship caught in it comprised of a small team of archaeologists and historians off to some far-flung planet in order to do some first-hand investigations for a company that Uhura had briefly mentioned before Kirk began to shit his pants.
“Captain, you do not biologically have a younger-“
“You know Spock, the Little Sibling program back at Starfleet?” The Captain clarified with a little embarrassment colouring his tone, “I was assigned to Y/L/N, she left after a couple of years, but we’re still in contact.”
“So I assume that means we’re going in?” Sulu hazarded, making worried eye-contact with Chekov. Chekov gulped a little, before turning back to face his station, his hands already finding the familiar grip on the controls, already awaiting the inevitable words,
“Fucking punch it.”
No one had warned you that 1880s St Petersburg was freezing in winter. Or perhaps, no one had warned you that it was perhaps to the best to piss off a Prince who (you assumed) thought you were flaming hot (from what your French could discern) only to find yourself in a dungeon in the bowels of the city, heavy with the scent of pungent sewers and stale sweat. On the upside, the gown was very pretty.
But that wasn’t much help at the moment. With your tired arms bound behind you with chafing rope, it was impossible to reach anything. You knew you still had a comm somewhere in the voluminous folds of midnight satin and a tri-corder smuggled in near your stockings. But with absolutely no waves, not even radio, there was no way the comms were going to work.
Oh and your legs were definitely out of the question, they’d bound those too after you tried escaping for a fourth time.
You could always flirt your way out of the situation? That was what Jim would do. Actually that was a lie, he would start a female insurrection on ideology against the Prince and manage to have half the women in the Aristocracy storming on the Duma and the Tsar demanding equality. Fascinating notion though. And definitely entertaining.
“Who the hell are you?” You suddenly found yourself being forced to move over as a young man was thrown into the freezing dungeon along with you. He certainly seemed from the far-flung past, with a perfectly knotted cravat and hair rakishly curly. He only seemed about your age, perhaps a year or two older, but about your age.
That was an idea. Flirt with the cute guy who just got chucked into your cell and hope he can get you out, because if you get invited to a Romanov Prince’s party, he’s definitely rich.
Only problem was the only Russian you knew was most likely just going to offend the poor guy.
“You speak English?” He tilted his head in confusion as he attempted to sit up, his hands bound behind him too. “You’re Keptin Kirk’s leetle sister?”
“You’re with Jim!?” You felt your heart fall out of your arse in complete and utter relief. He’d be able to find you, and the rest of the team. Hopefully.
“I’m Ensign Pavel Andreivich Chekov.” He introduced quickly, “Yes, well… there were some complications.” He admitted, a bashful grin gracing his face and his dimples casting charming shadows against the guttering candlelight of the cell. “I theenk we haff most of your team. Sulu and I were in the area after we got these…” He tried gesturing as best as he could to his stylish suit.
“How did you end up in here then?” Your flustered mind only now making the link between the cute boy (okay, he was cute, you were allowed to think that. He may be the last by you ever see. Maybe you’d have to spend the rest of eternity… together… in this piss-poor excuse for a cell) and his accent. “They’d be able to understand you…”
“Oh, well…” He made a bit of an ‘eek’ expression on his face, and you already dreaded what he was going to say next.
“Don’t tell me you challenged the Prince,” You said, flatly.
“Look, I may haff graduated Starfleet at sewenteen, but they don’t teach us fencing-“
“Isn’t there someone on your crew who does? Specialise in fencing, I mean?” You jolted at the memory of one of Jim’s early messages.
“We don’t talk about Sulu.” He muttered darkly, though his expression quickly passed into what could only be described as ‘overly-excited puppy’. “Put your heels on my shoulders,”
“Hm?”
“Zat way I can try to untie your ankles, zat leetle bit of rope is loose…” He continued on.
“Hm?” You repeated, your mind most definitely not turning to a certain golden retriever tying you to one of the grand beds three floors above…
“Here… shuffle over, no… no please put your heels on my shoulder.” You did as he instructed, nearly taking out his eye with your heeled boot. “Okay,”
“You sure this is a good idea?” You raised a brow as he placed the narrow strip of rope between his teeth, and began to tug a little. Slowly, but with relative ease, he managed to undo the loose knot and un-lopp the rope from your boots. “Wait, check up my skirt, my comm,” You added quickly.
“Yes, that might be a bit difficult,” He titled his curly head in the direction of his bound hands. Time was of the essence and the party raging upstairs sounded far too lethargic now, even through the dulling stone floors.
“It’s only above my knee. One of them, not sure,” You added with haste. “If you can activate the switch, you might be able to get a signal out before the Prince comes back in here to interrogate the pair of us,”
Biting hard on your lip, and hoping that the nearly-extinguished candle would hide your blushes, you watched as Chekov shuffled as best as he could, nestling between your ankles and your skirt that had ridden up a fair bit. Your heard drummed tight against your corseted bodice now, hearing distant footsteps. You guessed that Chekov decided it was all or nothing and attempted to reach the miniscule button of your comm with his nose.
For second there, you thought that it was all over, the door swinging open. There would be no hope of escape and that you would die with a (hot) stranger, centuries before you were ever born.
Your parents? What would they think? Would they care? Would they keep on reprimanding you? Saying that it would have been better if you’d stayed in Starfleet, for at least they’d have a body to bury.
What about what remained of your friends?
What about Jim?
“Chekov, what the hell do you think you’re doing to my sister!?” Chekov’s head immediately bobbed up from your upper thigh, immediately missing the warmth, his face surely as red as your own and his curls an endearing mess.
So that’s what Jim thought.

“Oh my, does this dress make my butt look bigger?” Sara asks, standing in front of the mirror in a shop.
“Is that what you want? If so, yes. Why do you need a new dress anyway? You have so many beautiful ones already.” Y/n wonders out loud while looking through the racks.
“Because I want to make a good first impression. Besides, I heard the crew of the Enterprise are all quite attractive. I’ve got to live up to that.” Sara responds, walking back into the dressing room.
“Sara, you are one of the most attractive people I know. Neither of us would have a problem if we went in something we already owned.” Y/n laughs, pulling out a flowing deep blue dress off the rack. “What about this?”
Sara pops her head out of the dressing room, watching as Y/n holds the dress up to her body. Sara’s eyes widen and shake her head frantically in agreement before her head disappears back into the dressing room, “absolutely. Go try that on right now.”
Y/n walks into a dressing room with the dress in hand. The dress was made with elegant royal blue tulle with embroidered stars speckled over the top layer. It fell over Y/n’s body perfectly, off the shoulders and stopped to about mid-calf, and whished when she moved. Stepping out, Y/n looks at Sara who was now sitting in a chair with the black cocktail dress she had tried on previously.
“You look like a greek god in that dress, Y/n,” Sara mused.
Y/n walked in front of the mirror and twirled. “Is it too much? If I get this, you have to pick a more exciting dress than what you’ve got.”
“It’s not too much but if it takes me getting that dress that makes my butt look good for you to buy that, I’ll do it,” Sara responds while walking over to the rack where she found the aforementioned dress.
With both dresses paid for, the friends left the shop and headed to Y/n’s apartment to pick up the things she needs to get ready at Sara’s.
“So, Let’s see what we’re getting ourselves into,” Sara started, looking at her datapad with photos of the crew while she walks.
“Sara, we’ve looked at these photos thousands of times. We know what they look like,” chuckles out Y/n, weaving their arm with hers.
“Yes, but that was different. Now we’re performing reconnaissance for the party tonight.”
“And what does your reconnaissance tell you?” Y/n glances at the pad.
“That Lieutenant Uhura is very attractive and only one rank above us.” Sara giggles as she reads Uhura’s personnel entry. “She’s also incredibly smart.”
“And very taken by Commander Spock,” Y/n points to the relationship status on file.
Sara deflates slightly before swiping through the next few personnel files. She stops on Commander Spock next.
“And this is the Vulcan you’ll be working under. Good luck with that, Y/n. I hear he’s rather cold.” Sara comments before continuing to swipe.
“He’s not that cold if he’s in a relationship. Also, isn’t he half human?” Y/n stops Sara before she walks into the busy street.
Sara ignores the potential harm she could have caused herself, and next stops on Lieutenant Commander Montgomery Scott, better known as Scotty.
“Cheif of Engineering. I hear he’s basically married to the ship,” Sara laughs and restarting to walk once the crosswalk is open.
“Next,” Y/n chuckles bad.
“Lieutenant Commander Leonard McCoy, Chief Medical Officer. I heard he has a cute accent but is a bit of a hardass. Remind me not to get hurt a lot.” Sara side-eyes Y/n while she talks.
“Good to know. Bet he knows how to make a good drink though.” Y/n speculates as they enter their apartment building.
“And Lastly, for the head of different groups, Captain James T. Kirk. Quite the looker.” Sara smirks to herself.
“And quite the flirt,” Y/n laughs at her friend as she unlocks her apartment. “I’ll be right over. I just need to pick up a few things.”
Living in the same building as your best friend had its perks. Getting ready for events was one of them. After picking up her makeup and a pair of heels that match her dress, Y/n walks over to Sara’s apartment and opens the door.
“Hey, why didn’t you wake me up this morning?” Y/n questioned, setting her makeup down next to Sara’s.
“Oh, I tried, you wouldn’t budge. I figured you’d make it eventually. And you did! So points for Sara.” She muses as she grabs two hard ciders from her fridge.
“I could have missed graduation!” Y/n fakes anger as she takes the cider from her dear friend.
Both get to work on their makeup and hair. Sara loosely curls her auburn hair, whereas Y/n does her hair in her favorite style. Once they were both ready, they left Sara’s apartment towards the location of the welcoming party, an old-style bar reminiscent of old San Francisco. The two stood in front of the main doors, peering into the windows, unsure if they should just walk in or not.
“Lieutenants! Very nice to see you two could make it.” A strong hand falls on Y/n’s shoulder, causing them and Sara to turn towards the voice to see a hand outstretched. “How about a proper introduction? I am Captain James T. Kirk. You’re welcome to just call me Kirk when we are off duty. And this is Commander Spock.”
Y/n takes Kirk’s hand to shake then trading with Sara to shake Spock’s. “I am Lieutenant Junior Grade Y/n Y/l/n. I just go by Y/n when off duty. And this is-”
“Lieutenant Junior Grade Sara Conners, Sir! It’s a pleasure to meet you.”
“Well, we should probably get inside and join the party, yes?” Kirk suggests, holding the door open for the other three.
The music playing was just above a comfortable volume, but quiet enough where you could hold a conversation without yelling. Sara and Y/s walk up to the bar to order drinks when a young man approaches them with a wide smile.
“Hello, I’m Pavel Ch-”
“Chekov. Navigation right?” Sara finishes for him, reaching out her arm. “Sara Conners. A pleasure to meet you!”
Pavel chuckles shaking Sara’s hand, “Did your research I see. And you are?” He finishes with a soft Russian accent, looking at Y/n.
“Y/n Y/l/n.” She says, shaking his hand. “Got any suggestions on what to order from here?”
“Well, the midtier brandy is spectacular here. But they do have a wonderful mint julep.” He states before waving over the bartender and ordering himself a brandy.
“We’ll take two mint juleps please.” Sara catches the bartender before he’s able to walk off.
“So, are you two in a relationship? You seem very close.” Pavel questions, sipping from his glass.
“No, just really close,” Sara answers, reaching for the newly arrived drinks and handing one to Y/n.
“Ah, cool,” Pavel beams. “Have you met the rest of the bridge crew yet? I can introduce you!”
Pavel leads Sara and Y/n to a table where Kirk and Spock were sat with two others.
“This is Nyota Uhura and Leonard McCoy. You’ve met the Captain and Spock already, yes?” Pavel introduces the crew with a bright smile. “Everyone, this is Y/n Y/l/n and Sara Conners.”
Hello’s and handshakes were exchanged. Pavel is pulled away by a few other ensigns towards what Y/n now notices a karaoke machine.
“So, Lieutenant Y/l/n, You will be working under me. Is there a particular area of study you wish to work on while abroad the USS Enterprise?” Spock questions.
“Oh, um yes. I’m looking specifically for new worlds with large deposits of Bio-mimetic Gel. It has many wonderful medical applications but very-” Y/n is cut off by Leonard.
“Regulated by the Federation. Do you have the proper paperwork and training to be handling such a hazardous material, young lady?” Leonard questions.
“Hey, we’re here to celebrate and have a good time, not to discuss work. Give the girl one more night of freedom.” Kirk interrupts and chuckles. “Also, call him Bones, he hates it.”
“I would love to answer your question, Lieutenant Commander McCoy. My last two years at the Academy majorly consisted of training and research with Bio-mimetic Gel under the supervision of Erika Biordi. My research has been in stabilizing the gel for transport and more widely used medical purposes. I have papers signed by President Kenneth Wescott and the proper containment materials that should already be aboard the Enterprise. This could be major for doctors all over the Federation. Also, I wouldn’t be able to do this work unless the Captain has approved it.” Y/n smiles thinly at the doctor.
Kirk, Spock, and Uhura all look impressed by the confidence in which Y/n spoke. Bones looks more apprehensive about the situation. Kirk broke the silence, “Y/n have you met Scotty yet?”
Y/n shakes her head no and notices Sara slinked off at some point to talk with Pavel more. Kirk leads Y/n towards the back corner to a table with three chairs. At the table sat a gentleman in a brown leather jacket and a Roylan both embroiled in a heated conversation about… power converters?
“No, Keenser, that will overload the Warp Drive, she won’t be able to take that kind of power without the proper energy suppressers.” A thick Scottish accent talks tensely between sips of whatever is in his glass.
“Can no one on my ship take a day off?” Kirk laughs, clapping his hand onto Montgomery’s shoulder.
“Ey, not when you have a potential explosion risk due to Keenser, Sir,” Montgomery responds.
“Well, I’ve got bad news then. I’d like to introduce you to Lieutenant Junior Grade Y/n Y/l/n. One of the newest graduates from Starfleet Academy. She will be studying Bio-mimetic Gel.” Kirk pulls the third chair out and motions to Y/n to sit. “She’s not getting along so great with Bones and thought you two might get along better.”
And with that Kirk walks away. The three are quiet, Y/n sipping on her mint julep that She’s about half done with.
“Sorry, I didn’t know I’d be interrupting a conversation. You can act like I’m not here.” Y/n said just loud enough to be heard over the sound of Sara and a couple of ensigns poorly singing Africa on stage.
“Why did you decide to study Bio-mimetic Gel?” The question from Montmonery surprised Y/n.
“Oh, um, when I was younger, Bio-mimetic Gel saved my mother’s life while out on a five-year mission. Her ship shouldn’t have even had any onboard, but they had just commandeered some from a smuggling vessel. If they hadn’t found that ship when they did and the doctor on board willing to take the risk, my mother would be dead and I would never have been born. So, when I heard they were wanting to do more research into it to potentially make it a commonly used substance by Federation doctors, I jumped at the chance. Sorry, that’s probably a lot more information than you were asking for.” Y/n found herself rambling.
The Cheif engineer just shook his head slightly, finishing off his drink. “No, I asked, Lass. I rarely get full explanations of why someone joined Starfleet. It’s refreshing. I’ll be right back, I’m going to get a refill. Can I get you anything?”
“Yeah, Sure. I’ll take one of whatever you’re getting. Thank you, Montgomery.”
“Please, call me Scotty.” He said, before walking off towards the bar.
Keenser and Y/n sat in more silence as they finished their drinks waiting for Scotty to return. Peering towards the bar, Y/n notices Scotty being stopped by some ensigns to chat.
“So, how long have you been on the enterprise?” Y/n asks Keenser.
Keenser babbles in his native tongue something along the lines of “not very long.”
Y/n nods in acknowledgment, “very cool. Do you like it?”
Keenser simply nods as Scotty returns, placing a glass in front of Y/n.
“Thank you, Scotty.” Y/n smiles at the man now sitting across from them.
“No problem, Lass. This will unfortunately be my last drink for the night. Going to head up to the Enterprise tonight to get a head start on some undocking prep. Coming with Keenser?” Keenser huffed in response, Finishing his drink and hopping down from his chair.
“Oh, okay. Have a goodnight then. Don’t overwork yourself. It’s supposed to be a night off.” Y/n waves goodbye to Scotty and Keenser.
Almost as soon as they leave, their spots are taken by Sara and Pavel.
“Y/n! You HAVE to get up there and sing!” Sara’s words slur as she waves her arm towards the small stage in the bar.
“Yes, you should take her advice, Lieutenant,” Pavel smiles towards Y/n.
“No, I’m perfectly fine here. And call me Y/n, Pavel. When do you want to go home, Sara?” Y/n looks with a soft smile towards her friend. She isn’t feeling the alcohol as intensely as Sara but she assumes that’s because she’s had significantly fewer drinks than her friend.
Sara looks at Y/n like they’ve just committed the most heinous crime. “What do you mean you don’t want to go up and sing. You have the most beautiful voice! And I bet your dress would look stunning under those lights.” Sara leans further into Y/n, head now resting her head on her shoulder, and whispers, “You can sing that old Earth song you like so much.”
Y/n chuckles at her friend while shaking her head. “You’re going to have to get a lot more alcohol into me before I’m willing to sing in front of the whole crew.”
Before Y/n could finish talking, Pavel was already up and at the bar, ordering a double round of shots. After a couple of minutes, he returns with a tray of purple shots. The trio cheers the first round to their health and quickly follows it with another to their safety aboard the ship. The trio continues to drink and after about an hour, Y/n is successfully sloshed. Sara convinced Y/n and Pavel to sing Sara’s favorite song that her grandmother loved called ‘Shut Up and Dance’. This was not a song to sing well, but more to just yell the word to. They even got a few of the old crewmates to sing along. Y/n was having a blast and finally thought she couldn’t wait to be working with these people. A group of nurses went on next and sang some modern rock anthem.
Y/n cut themself and Sara off after that song and convinced Sara to drink some water and eat some more food. Both slowly started to sober up, Pavel never seemed very drunk though. People begin to leave back to their homes or hotels for the night. It was starting to get late. Y/n shivers.
“Are you cold, Y/n?” Pavel asks.
“A bit, but I’ll be fine.” Y/n smiles at the kind man.
“Um,” Pavel looks around and spots something on the back of Sara’s chair and grabs it, “put this on.”
‘Scotty’s jacket? When did he take that off?’ Y/n wonders to herself as she slides the jacket on. ‘I’m sure her wouldn’t mind. I’ll just bring it to him on the ship tomorrow.’
“Y/nnnnn, come ooon. Barely anyone is left and I got you drunk like you said I had to. Go sing a solo song.” Sara nudges Y/n elbow towards the stage again.
“Fine, but I’m not happy about it!” Y/n laughs, walking onto the stage after the current song ends.
Sitting on a stool on stage, Y/n adjusts the mic to her sitting height. ‘Take Me To Church’ starts playing.
***
Scotty left earlier than he had planned. But talking with the new science officer made him feel odd and he didn’t want to be rude so he lied about needing to work on the ship. She’s much too young for him he thought. She has her whole life of research ahead of them. He couldn’t be with someone who dressed so elegantly, he was a bumbling fool and could never compare. She didn’t need him, some old Scotsman pinning for her. So instead, he and Keenser walked around the surrounding area until they got tired. About an hour had passed when Scotty realized something.
“Keenser, where’s my jacket?”
Keenser looks at Scotty and responds in his native tongue, “you left it at the bar.”
“Damnit, why didn’t you say anything?” He huffs out, turning around to walk back to the bar and get his Jacket.
He had walked further than he realized from the bar and took him about half an hour to return. As he entered the front doors, he watched Y/n walk onto the stage with his jacket on. Confused, he walks up to Kirk who now sat alone at the bar.
“Y/n said you went back to the ship,” Kirk prodded at the engineer.
“Yeah, but I noticed I forgot my jacket.” Scotty’s accent was unmissable.
“I noticed.” Kirk glances knowingly at Y/n who has started singing on stage.
Most people continued to talk but a few people stopped to listen to Y/n sing. Sara and Pavel sat at their table swaying dramatically to the song. Sara even started waving her arms slowly above her head, causing Y/n to chuckle as she sang. Scotty became enraptured in Y/n singing and began swaying lightly to her voice.
On the last line, “Good God, let me give you my life,” Y/n makes eye contact with Scotty, making her instantly blush.
Hopping off the stage, Y/n shuffles towards him while taking off his jacket.
“Sorry, Pavel found your jacket. I planned on giving it to you tomorrow on the ship but I got cold and put it on. Sorry.” Y/n talked fast, face beet red while shoving the jacket into Scotty’s arms and running back towards Sara before he could get a word out.
“Thanks,” Scotty whispers under his breath, looking down at his jacket.
He slides his arms into it, still warm from Y/n wearing it. Her song had entranced him. It wasn’t a song he was familiar with, must be old. He doesn’t usually care for music, but he thought he would listen to music for hours if she was the one singing it. Scotty shook his head free of those thoughts. By the time he came back to reality, Y/n was gone.
“What are you thinking about, Scotty?” Kirk prodded.
“Nothing, Sir. Goodnight” Scotty straightened out his back before leaving the bar and walking to his hotel room.
***
“Sara, it’s time to go,” Y/n spoke quickly
“What? But I’m still having fun. Sara huffed.
“Yeah, and we both need to be up and on the transport shuttles at 0700. Let’s go, Rockstar. Goodnight, Pavel, we’ll see you tomorrow.” Y/n pulled Sara to her feet and waved goodbye to Pavel.
The cool, damp air was refreshing on Y/n’s skin. The walk wasn’t long to their apartments, which Y/n was thankful for. She helped Sara into her apartment and bed, setting their friend’s alarm with plenty of time to get ready before going to her apartment to do the same. Y/n quickly fell asleep with oddly invading thoughts of one Montgomery Scott.

Among The Trees, The Fallen Rise Again || Part Two
Title: Among The Trees, The Fallen Rise Again
Fandom: Star Trek with a small dash of Pete’s Dragon
Relationship: McKirk || Jim x Bones
Warnings: n/a
A/N: Here’s Part Two! And we are finally introducing Jim! This and the next few parts will focus on Jim. I debated on combining them all together, but it would have gotten a little to long for posting on here :p
This is apart of a series! You can read the previous parts here: Part One |
Among The Trees, The Fallen Rise Again || Part Two
WELCOME TO MILLHAVEN POPULATION 770
“770 people,” the weary blond read as he rolled into the tiny forest town.
Good enough.
He stopped at the first, and seemingly only, stoplight in the town and squinted down the street. He could see the signs for several small businesses on the main drag, but the one with the most appeal was the one declaring 'Millhaven Motel'.
He slowly drove further along and pulled into the small parking lot, joining the five other vehicles already there. The Millhaven Motel fit the motel stereotype to a 'T'. It was a small, low, 'U' shaped building encompassing it's parking lot. On it's exterior, ten numbered doors were inset equally around the walls while an eleventh one – placed at the very end on his left – was marked with the sign 'Reception Office'.
The tan building was no Ritz or Hyatt, but it would work.
Grabbing his overstuffed, leather duffel bag and – thankfully – dead phone from where he threw it into the back seat, he shuffled down to the Reception Office. The chiller evening air bit through his white t-shirt and jeans and he made a mental note to purchase a jacket while he was here. A strand of bells jingled as he swung the door opened and entered the cramped room. A handful of chairs were lined against the wall to his left and a long desk sat in front of the wall on his left. Another door opposite the entryway displayed an 'Employee's Only' sign.
All-in-all, the whole place could be described as '50 Shades of Beige'.
He reached out and tapped the silver bell sitting on the desk and dropped his bag on the ground. He didn't have to wait long for the back door to open and reveal a short, blonde woman -
- platinum blonde hair, as soft as silk between his fingers -
He blinked and took in a short breath at the intruding memory, before rubbing at his eyes and pushing the thoughts away.
She gave him a soft smile as she went around the desk, unaware of his inner turmoil.
“Evening!” she greeted. “I'm Janice, I help run the motel.” She took a seat and pulled over a guest book. “I'm guessing you're interested in a room?”
“Uh, yes ma'am. Just for a few days.”
She raised an elegant eyebrow at him. “Alright, we have six vacancies at the moment. Each room comes with a queen sized bed, a kitchenette, small bathroom, and Wi-Fi. Although, our location may cause your Internet access to be slow. We charge $100 a night.”
“Okay, sounds good.” She could have said the room was $5,000 a night and he still would have accepted it. Anything to sleep and get a rest from the hell his mind was keeping at bay.
Janice passed over a clipboard and pen. “Excellent! You have a few papers to sign, Mr...,” she trailed off waiting for him to introduce himself.
He scratched at his short beard. Maybe he should grow it out more? “Oh, ah, James K-- Tiberius. James Tiberius.” She didn't seem to have noticed his near slip-up as she copied down his name and for that he was grateful.
The next few minutes passed quickly as Jim signed the forms and handed over three hundreds. He accepted the key and bid her 'good-night' before heading down to Room 5.
The room certainly looked clean, but, at the moment, Jim didn't care. Once he locked the door behind him and tossed his bag on the floor, he walked over and collapsed onto the bed – forgoing the decision to change.
After driving for nearly 24 hours, taking back road after back road with only a handful of pit stops, all he wanted to do was sleep.
He could worry about everything else in the morning.
Morning came all too soon for the exhausted blond and Jim squinted angrily at the overly bright sunlight streaming in though the open blinds and curtains.
He sort of regretted not closing those before falling asleep.
The clock on the nightstand read 8:20 A.M. as he drug himself off the bed and stumbled to the bathroom, his ten minute shower doing wonders for his alertness. After drying off and dressing in a green, cashmere sweater and dark-wash jeans, he looked over his current accommodations.
The room was small – the bed taking up most of the space – and the attached bathroom wasn't any better. He had two nightstands and lamps, a low dresser with a decent sized TV sat opposite the bed, and a table and two chairs sat in front of the wide window. None of which seemed to be bolted down so Jim considered that a plus; not that he planned on stealing anything.
He missed their home – HIS home he thought bitterly. One he couldn't go back to. A wave of anger surged through him and it took several deep breaths to shove it back down.
He focused instead on checking the floor under the bed and a looking under the mattress, after which he had to admit that Nyota would have approved.
Shit! Nyota.
Jim groaned and rummaged through his bag for his charger. He plugged in his phone and set it back down on the nightstand. He didn't really want to talk to anyone right now, but after several days of silence on his end – his stomach soured again at the memories – he supposed he should call her at some point today. Not right now, though.
Now he needed to get food and figure out what the hell he was doing.
There were several business cards and takeout menus for local Millhaven restaurants and his decision was made pretty fast seeing as only one of them was open this early.
Located in a brick building just down from the motel, Yorktown was probably the most modern business in town. On the interior, at least. The quaint restaurant reminded Jim of the ones he ate at in the big cities; with shiny black tables and matching chairs, black and white photos of NYC architecture, and dozens of plants growing everywhere.
Hipsters would kill to eat at a place like this.
Pulling off his sunglasses, Jim heeded the 'Seat Yourself' sign and picked out a table towards the back of the dinning space. Not that it mattered, the only other diners were three elderly couples who appeared to be having their regular Tuesday breakfast meet-up. Quickly spotting the most private – and most open – seats in a restaurant had become second nature to him over the years.
Jim ran a hand over his jaw, still unnerved at the feeling of rough hair there. He couldn't recall a time where his jaw was covered in anything more than a five o'clock. Leaving it grow would definitely benefit him now, but – even if he had been clean shaven – he highly doubted these people would have recognized him. On the other hand, there was no telling if they had been keeping an eye on the media lately.
“Good morning! Welcome to Yorktown!”
Jim's attention snapped back into focus as a young kid laid down a plastic menu in front of him and pulled out a notepad. With a kind face and curly blond hair, Jim guessed he was in his twenties, if not a little younger.  “Can I get you anything to drink while you look over the menu?” His words revealed a Russian accent.
“Uh, coffee, please. Black. Regular.”
The guy nodded left to grab a pot of coffee and a cup. Once it was poured, the guy stepped back and gave Jim an assessing once-over. “You're new to this area.”
“Yeah, I just got in last night.” Dread started to pool in his stomach. Not now.
“Sorry, it's just that, I know we haven't met before, but you look really familiar?” His head tilted in thought, a few curls shifting over his eyes.
Shit.
Jim shrugged and tried to play it off. “Eh, it's not the first time someone's told me that. Seems I have one of those faces, ya know?” He ended with small laugh. “But, you're right. I'm not from around here. I live in the city and I needed to get away. Thinking about trying the small town life. James Tiberius, but most people call me Jim.” At the realization of what he said, Jim blinked.
He planned on getting away from L.A.; since when was he considering not going back?
The kid laughed, cutting through his revelation, and the knot that was forming inside of him started to dissipate. “Yeah, that happens. Oh, I'm Pavel Chekov, by the way. Wish I lived in the city. Don't get me wrong, it's nice here, but it gets boring. Hopefully I won't be here too much longer.”
“Oh?”
He gave an enthusiastic nod, his curls bouncing with the movement. It seems that Jim found a good topic. “Da! I hope to be an actor someday; theater, big screen, I don't care. I'm trying to save up enough money to move down to L.A.”
Christ Almighty! If he got through this...
He picked up his coffee and took a sip before saying, “Acting? Wow! That's a tough business to break out in.”
Pavel shrugged, sloshing the coffee around in the pot, but Jim felt that nothing could dull this kid's cheery disposition. “True, but I think it will be worth it in the end. Well, Jim, I'll give you a few moments to figure out what you want,” he said with another smile before heading over to check on the other patrons.”
The hour that Jim spent at Yorktown turned out to be time well spent in the end. He got the best breakfast platter of pancakes, eggs, bacon, and toast, and Pavel told him all about the area.
From the time of it's founding to the modern day, Millhaven was a logging town. So much so that every resident has either worked for Enterprise – the local logging and milling company – or has a family member who has. They used to go all over, felling trees and causing a stir in the local wildlife conservation community. That all changed five years ago when the old owners got ousted – due to skimming money and dumping waste – and gained new owners who wished to be more eco friendly. These days they worked in tandem with the DNR and local park services.
“My family moved here from Russia when I was a baby. They wanted a new start and felt the small town was the perfect place for it,” Pavel admitted as Jim worked his way through the stack of syrup soaked pancakes. “When I got older, I joined my Papa at the mill, but it just wasn't for me.”
Instead he had gotten a job here, at a newly opened Yorktown. The owner, a Miriam Paris, was a local who had moved to New York when she got married, but returned after the death of her husband. The restaurant was started in his memory, a dream of theirs that always got shoved to the side.
“Her husband would be pleased,” was Jim's response.
It was proof, all proof, that the small town was thriving. The logging, the restaurant, the new greenhouse, and all the people gravitating to the town was proof that there was something here to be found. In L.A., there was something as well, but it was all a jumbled mess. It was smothering; everything and everyone piled on top of each other in the heavy city air and harsh memories.
Here, Jim felt like he was breathing for the first time. Originally, he had planned to just stay a few days; plot out his next move and become a modern day nomad for a while. The more Pavel talked about Millhaven, the more Jim's intrigue grew. Maybe his subconscious was onto something.
“There's new apartment buildings?” Jim pushed his plate to the side and leaned forward onto the table.
“Da,” Pavel chirped. “Just west of here on the edge of town. They aren't big buildings; they only house four apartments each, but there are two buildings done and third is nearing completion. Of course there's also two old brick buildings in town that have been converted into apartment buildings. I believe there are still a few openings.”
An idea began to form in his head. “I think I might look into those. Do you know who I should contact?”
“Da!” He dashed over to the counter and scribbled something down on a piece of paper before darting back and handing over the page. “Here! He does the real estate for the county, but his office is just around the corner. The apartments in town belong to the building owners.” He pointed to the names.
He read over the numbers and slipped it in his pocket. “I'll definitely look into those. Thanks,” he said with an easy smile.
The kid glanced down and shrugged. “Don't mention it. You need the help and I was happy to give it.”
Jim asked about a few other places in town before handing over cash to pay for his meal. When Pavel went to attend to some new customers, Jim left a ten on the table for him before waving good-bye to the kid.
The only thought running through his mind was 'nap', but Jim's day was far from done as he wrestled his bags of goodies through his room door. He decided to forgo seeing the realtor today – although he did call and make an appointment for tomorrow, but snack and warm clothes shopping was a necessity.
As was finally calling Nyota.
He dumped the bags on the floor and unplugged his phone. Flopping down on the bed, he ignored the 30 missed messages and tapped on his agent's name.
She answered on the first ring.
“JAMES TIBERIUS KIRK WHAT THE HELL!!!!”
Wincing, he ripped the phone away from his ear.
“First of all: ow! You don't have to yell!”
“I don't have to yell??? I DON'T HAVE TO YELL???? JIM, NO ONE'S HEARD FROM YOU IN DAYS!! PEOPLE ARE THINKING YOU'RE DEAD!! I HAVE EVERY RIGHT TO YELL RIGHT NOW!”
“Well, you're talking to me now so can we cut the yelling??”
“...Will you promise to not go radio silent on us again,” she snipped.
Jim sighed. “Yeah. Yeah, I promise.”
“Good. I'm holding you to that. Now, what the hell, Jim?”
He threw an arm over his eyes and squeezed them shut as tight as he could, the dance of colors a good block from memories. “You saw the news, the photos. You know what happened.” He paused for a few moments, pinching the bridge of his nose. “Do they really think I died?”
Her sigh sounded through the phone. “I did. And that's the media, Jim. You know how they are.”
“Yeah.” He knew better than most.
“Which is why I want to hear your story.”
And this was what he was trying to avoid.
“I know...”
“...And??”
“I've – uh – been trying not to think about it.”
“...Do Spock and I need to come over and help you process it?”
He squirmed on the bed.
“Umm, about that...”
“Jim...” Her voice took on a dangerous edge. “What did you do?”
“I'm...ya know...sort of...not in L.A.”
“Where 'not in L.A.' are you?”
“If I tell you are you going to track me down and drag me back to that shitty city with it's shitty people?”
“Jim...”
“Then, no, I'm not going to tell you.”
“Jiiim!”
“Nyyyy!”
“Jim, be serious.”
“I am serious, Ny!” He pinched the bridge of his nose again. “I...I need some time and I can't get that there.” The 'where they are' was left out, but they both new it was implied.
“So you just ran?”
He sat up on the bed. Is she serious right now? “No! I didn't just run! I spent FOUR DAYS in hell after I had that SHIT dumped on me! Four days, Nyota! And do you know the real kicker?”
Oh, the flood gates had opened.
And there was no dam for the tidal wave.
“I found out from a fucking pap who cornered me outside a Trader Joes!”
She gasped. “No!”
“Oooooh, yes!” He clenched his fist to stop the shaking. The photos re-burning themselves into his eyelids. “And then it was everywhere no matter where the fuck I was.”
“Shit, Jim. I'm sorry.”
He flopped back and pressed his fist into his forehead, squeezing his eyes shut. “Yeah. So, I left. I packed a bag, rented a car, and drove until I got to this tiny-ass town in the middle of nowhere.”
“Has it helped?”
“I don't know; I haven't given myself a chance to really think about it.” At least, not willingly.
Nyota was silent for a moment. “Do you think it will help?”
He let his arm drop back to the bed and stared up at the white ceiling. “I don't know.”
She gave another sigh. “Do you promise not to let this drag on?”
“I won't let that happen.” Maybe. Delaying it sounds very nice.
“Good. Then just keep us updated.”
In that case..
“...Then I guess I should tell you that I'm gonna get a place here.”
“JIM!”
...to be continued

Tumblr media Tumblr media
Imagine Prompt: here
Pairing: Spock x Reader
Words: 2239
Warnings: graphic description of an injury, reader is hurt/in pain, chaos
Beta’d: by @starshiphufflebadger. Thank you so much for taking some time and turning my fic into something readable! And for giving me, even if you don’t know that, enough ideas to keep this story going!
A/N: This is my contribution to the Winter Blues Challenge! This was supposed to be a one shot. I had already written it out, but I couldn’t quite finish it and then watched ‘The Impossible’ to inspire me. Bad idea... now it turned into a series, but I don’t know how many parts there are going to be.

Life is either a big adventure or nothing
“Mayday! Mayday! Shuttle 14 to Enterprise! Can you hear us? Please respond! We lost one of our thrusters! We’re crashing! Beam us up!” The voice of Ensign Chekov, your pilot for this mission, echoed through the open compartment door that divided the cockpit and the rest of the shuttle. His voice was frantic, his accent thick and hard to understand, and almost inaudible over the loud alarm.
The shuttle shuddered one more time, and in addition to the blaring alarm, the constant beeping and whirring of different machines from the cockpit reached your ears. “Ë-moë! Enterprise! Please respond! We’re going to lose our second thruster too!”
With a sudden jump and a thud following immediately after, similar to a car running over a obstacle in the road, the shuttle suddenly veered to the right - the side where the thruster had stopped working - and started to plunge down. Overhead compartments broke open under the weight of the contents inside that were thrown against them, the shuttle now flying perpendicular to the ground rather than horizontally, due to the left thruster still working.
With a sigh, as you had been used to these kinds of situations for a long time working on the Enterprise, you opened your seatbelt, ignoring the blaring alarm and flashing signs that you should stay in your seat and moved towards the back of the shuttle, crawling directly on the right wall, as you had been seated near the right thruster that was now facing the ground.
“Lieutenant Y/L/N!”, you heard the First Officer scream, as you crawled past his seat - well, more like climbed over his head - and moved on. “What do you think you’re doing?!”
“My job!”, you shouted back, as you reached the back of the shuttle and slipped down the wall to the floor again. Thankfully everything you needed was in the right corner of the shuttle, or you might have had some problems. You took the emergency engineering kit out of its metal hold beside the console, which included the electronic circuit, and began to unscrew the cover plate. You hoped that the shuttle wouldn’t suddenly move and throw you against a wall or worse, another crew member.
“As your superior I must know exactly what you’re doing and advise you to go back to the safety of your seat.” Spock was “standing” awkwardly beside you, more like laying on his side, which would’ve looked like he was just leaning casually against the wall, were it not for the fact that the wall had become the new floor.
“If I do that, you and I both might not have seats to go back to anymore”, you respond sharply, not even bothering to look up at him, throwing the plate behind you as the fourth and last screw landed on the ground.
“And why is that, Lieutenant?” You didn’t have to look at him to know that his eyebrow was raised and his mouth was pressed together ever so slightly, probably giving you the same annoyed look that he always gave the captain when he didn’t agree with one of his methods.
You groaned, annoyed that he didn’t let you work in peace, but you took a deep breath and started to reconnect some wires while you answered him. “Our right thruster just stopped working.  It didn’t actually break, it just isn’t getting any juice for some reason. I should be able to rewire some of these cables, so that both of our thrusters start to share their power and stabilize the shuttle. If I don’t-”
You were interrupted by a strong trembling that seemed to originate from the left thruster and noticeably continued to tremble, even after the worst part was over. The other away team members were by now either screaming or crying, some hurt by overhead objects and some unconscious.
“If you don’t?”, Spock inquired, his voice still toneless and calm.
“If I don’t the left thruster might explode under it’s additional burden to keep the shuttle in the air. So please”, you added as you turned around for a second and saw how he was about to open his mouth again, “go back to your seat or go help Chekov, those are the only two logical things you can do right now.” You didn’t turn around anymore after that, and you didn’t feel his presence - you didn’t know if he had moved or was still behind you, you just knew that you had to work good and fast.
The flashing red lights that indicated the constant loss of power of the left thruster appeared  shortly after you had successfully rewired half of the cables, your hands getting little burns by the many sparks that erupted from the sometimes naked wires, and were starting to type in the override code. The shuttle was still in its perpendicular position to the ground, but now you could feel it plummeting towards the planet.
“Y/L/N!”, you heard Chekov’s cry over your comm. “How long till you fix the thruster? We’re entering the planet’s atmosphere with an enormous velocity! If we don’t stabilize and slow down now, we’re going to burn up!”
“I’m working on it! I’m working on-” With a loud bang, the explosion of the left thruster made the shuttle do a somersault in the air, throwing you around like a rag doll and made the screams of the other members and the flashing red lights the last thing you heard and saw before you hit your head and succumbed to the darkness.
x-x
Smoke filled your lungs as you took a deep breath, causing you to start wheezing as soon as you woke up. You laid there for a while, covering your mouth with your uniform sleeve and tried to remember what had just happened. And then you remembered. You remembered the alarm, the screams, the lights, the crash... but now everything seemed to be in darkness, without any motion and eerily quiet.
Grunting, you tried to heave yourself up into a sitting position, blindly, since the smoke and ashes burned in your eyes. As soon as your free hand touched the metal beside you, you slumped back down, hissing, shaking your now burnt hand, desperately trying to cool it down. The metal was hot, scorching hot.
Without your eyes you had to rely purely on your ears and other senses, and that’s when you noticed it. Previously, too distracted by your pounding head and your cough attacks, it didn’t bother you, but now it did. Not only was the metal scorching hot, so was the air. And then you heard it too, the faint hissing of escaping gas, the sizzling of melting metal and the crackle of an ever-growing fire. You were laying in a burning shuttle.
“Hello?!”, you called out, coughing. “Is there anybody here?” You knew it was hopeless, but you also knew that you had to get out of the shuttle before it was too late, and if there was still someone in there, you sure as hell would help them get out.
You heaved yourself up again, more carefully this time, wheezing and making sure that all of your skin was covered by some kind of clothing.  You shook your head. Bad idea. Soot and ash fell out of your hair to the floor or down on your face, which made you sneeze and a pang of pain went through your body. Doubling over, you groaned as you realised that you must have broken, or at least cracked, some of your ribs.
Slowly brushing the soot and ash out of your eyes, you tried to open them a little, to orient yourself and find the exit. ‘Please don’t tell me that the shuttle landed with the door facing down,’ you thought.
It didn’t, in fact, it couldn’t, because when you opened your eyes, you saw straight into a weird-looking forest with bare trees and blue-green sunlight. ‘The shuttle broke into two pieces. Hopefully the others stayed safely in their seats or at least in the other part of the shuttle.’
A metal pole was sticking out of the shuttle wall beside you, so you grabbed it as an aid to stand up, but as soon as you put pressure on your left leg, pain flared up, causing you to scream and collapse. You shut your eyes and bit on your lip, trying to suppress the tears that wanted to leave your body and the ringing that started in your head.
Your chest was heaving as you opened your eyes again just moments later and slowly started to move your leg from under you to be able to look at it. Panting, you fought the pain and finally were able to sit more or less comfortable on your butt, almost throwing up when you looked at your leg. There was a long cut, beginning just underneath the left side of your knee and ending only a little above your ankle, but it wasn’t a neat one. The skin looked like it had been torn apart by some kind of animal, at some parts it was missing completely while at others shreds were still clinging loosely to the wound. Though, luckily you could say that the cut wasn’t deep enough to have reached any important muscles, but it wasn’t just superficial either. Looking at your leg more closely you saw, that there were multiple little metal pieces sticking in the wound and leg and you groaned at the thought of having to pull them all out later on.
A small explosion behind you shook the shuttle and made you scream, causing you to lean forward, even though that caused you pain, and put your hands protectively over your head. Even though you felt that something was still moving behind you, probably the flames creeping closer to you, you opened your eyes again and a deep shock settled in your gut.
It wasn’t just the flames that were moving - the whole shuttle was. You couldn’t have realised it from where you were laying before, but now as you were upright and looking out one of the broken windows you could see it; the shuttle was sliding down a hill that ended abruptly at a cliff. And it was taking you with it.
A scream, not really a cry for help, but more like a general plea to nobody in particular escaped your lips as you threw yourself to the scorching ground, ignoring the roaring pain in your ribs and leg and started to pull yourself forward with only the strength of your arms.
“Y/L/N!”
‘No, it can’t be. Hallucinating, that’s what I’m doing, the pain must have taken over my body. There’s no way that-’ And yet, before your pounding head could finish the thought, two feet appeared in your blurred vision, running towards the shuttle. There was no strength left to raise your head, not if you wanted to get out of this shuttle, so you didn’t know who exactly was running towards you. You were still pulling yourself forward, grunting and groaning in pain, burning yourself even more on the hot metal, but suddenly, the hard ground had changed into a soft and muddy one.
Then a hand started to caress your face, a voice started to apologize frantically as you jerked and cried in pain when they tried to lift you up, but held on too tightly to your sides and completely neglected your injured leg. Some of the pain eased a little bit, not the pain in your ribs or leg, but the pain of the burns. ‘They’re rubbing cold mud onto my burns.’
Tears rolled down your cheeks as you were put down again and you looked up into the sky, or whatever you could see of it that wasn’t concealed by those weird trees, which you now realised were full of moss.
Almost out of your field of view, the shuttle exploded the moment it reached the edge, brightening up the surrounding forest for a moment, before it disappeared completely over the edge of the cliff.
A face appeared in front of your eyes, but your mind and thoughts were all over the place and your vision so blurry, that you couldn’t really focus on what was happening right before you. It hurt to focus, you could only look into the distance.
“Y/L/N!”, said the same voice from before as they shook your shoulders, more carefully and cautiously this time. “Do you hear me? Can you say something?”
You tried to open your mouth, but it felt like you had swallowed too much smoke and ash and already screamed the voice out of you, making it impossible for you to speak. Your throat was burning and your eyes never stayed still, wandering from their hair to their uniform, trying to find something that would identify them. ‘Their uniform is blue, no green… no brown?’
“Who are… water,” you croaked after some time, still unable to focus on anything near you, but you could hear a faint splashing sound, as if water was falling onto rocks.
“Yes! Yes! I’ll go get you some! Don’t move!” The face disappeared and so did the hands that were holding your face.  Without the support, your head fell to the side and you saw how their two feet ran away from you, towards the water, before your eyes closed again.

Author’s Note: This is my second entry for @trekken81‘s Songfic challenge. I took this song in kind of a different direction. Sometimes fighting for what you need in your life means leaving some things behind and coming back to them later. I hope you enjoy this one! I had fun writing Chekov again ^^
Cyrillic Key:  Да - Da - Yes,  Боже мой - Bozhe moy - Oh my God.
---
Like a small boat
On the ocean
Sending big waves
Into motion
Like how a single word
Can make a heart open
I might only have one match
But I can make an explosion
The auditorium filled up behind you. The crowd got louder and louder as the clock ticked down to the beginning of your first lecture. You twisted a damp Kleenex around and around in your hands, trying not to let the deep timbre of the voices get to you.
Someone sat on your left. You spared a glance from your lap to theirs and saw a pair of enormous, meaty hands unpacking a PADD from their bag.
Snapping your eyes back to your own lap, you sucked in a tremulous breath before the familiar fuzz filled the front of your face. You brought the Kleenex up and sneezed violently into it.
“Bless you,” the large man next to you said.
You glanced sideways, trying to resist the urge to bite your lip, and gave him a shaky smile and a nod.
“Excuse me,” a small voice to your right said. “Is anyone sitting here?”
Above you hovered a short man with wildly curly hair barely plastered to his head with sweat. He looked as panicked as you felt.
“No, please,” you squeaked, as you did a double take. He wasn’t a man at all. He had flushed, pink cheeks, uncreased eyes, and no shoulder definition under his narrowly-cut uniform. As he sat he made eye contact with you and gave you a lop-sided grin.
“I guess you got an offer too?” he asked in a gravelly voice, barely broken.
You nodded.
“Pavel Chekov,” he twisted in his seat and offered you his hand. You went to take it, but looked at the tissue in your other hand and reconsidered.
“Y/N Y/L/N, sorry, I’m having allergies,” you hid the messy Kleenex between your palms and closed yourself back into your seat.
“Zere are a lot of plants here,” he shrugged with a smile.
“Where are you from?” you asked, trying to place his accent. It was musical and awkward, much like this cadet’s smile.
“Russia,” his grin got wider. “Have you ever heard of a place called Taganrog?”
“I haven’t, sorry,” you said as your face scrunched up involuntarily again.
“Have you been to ze clinic?” Pavel asked. “Zey probably hawe somesing.”
You sneezed into your tissue before shaking your head.
“I’ll go on my break,” you muttered with a sniff.
“Vat track are you in?” he asked.
“You ask a lot of questions,” you giggled. “You first.”
He blushed as he pulled his PADD out of his bag.
“Operations,” he said sheepishly. “I am going to be a varp engineer.”
You smiled and felt a pang of worry in your chest.
“Vat about you?” he asked again.
“Um, I’m thinking about going into anthropology,” you realized that your voice sunk in volume.
“Really?” Pavel asked with raised eyebrows. Much to your surprise, he leaned in slightly as he continued questioning you. “Are you aiming for Command? You could be a Captain viss zose skills.”
“I don’t know, really,” you felt your face getting warm. Generally, the response to your chosen path was disappointment. Even in this golden age of exploration, Earth valued hard and fast statistics. The professor entered the lecture hall from a side door and the room began to quiet.
“You’re going to be amazing,” Pavel winked at you before turning back to face front.
“You, too,” you grinned as he glanced sideways with a half-smile before the tips of his ears turned pink.
Losing friends and I'm chasing sleep
Everybody's worried about me
In too deep
Say I'm in too deep (in too deep)
And it's been two years I miss my home
But there's a fire burning in my bones
Still believe
Yeah, I still believe
Eight years later you stood in the personnel bay of the USS Bradbury waiting to disembark at San Francisco.
Your initial assignment to the Bradbury was up and the ship as a whole was being reassigned as a scientifically-based research vessel, leaving less room for cultural research, leaving less room for the anthropologists.
Last night, when you called your mother to tell her you were docking, you had a pang of homesickness. This last assignment took you away for nearly three years and your mother was starting to ask when you would be leaving the fleet for good.
You conceded to her that although that time was drawing nearer, you still had work that you could do with Starfleet. For the time being, you took a position at the San Francisco archive. You’d be heading the department for xenotheology. It was about equal pay and it was more secure than your position on the Bradbury for sure. And for your parents, it was planetside. But the draw of space… wasn’t that what you signed on for in the first place?
“Y/L/N!”
Turning around, you saw Lieutenant Commander Evans hurrying to catch up with you.
You took a few steps back to meet him halfway.
“Yes, Sir?”
“You’ve been reassigned to the archive, right?” Mr. Evans asked between large breaths of air.
“I have been, yes.”
“How set are you on that assignment?”
The gears jammed in your brain.
“If you’re offering me my old position back -”
“I’m not. Wish I could. Really,” Mr. Evans put his hands on his hips. “The Enterprise needs someone in archiving. The old department head has just applied for maternity leave.”
You gaped at him, not sure what to say. The Enterprise was the jewel of the Federation’s crown, after all.
“Think you can bring yourself to go back out there?”
“In a heartbeat, Sir.”
“Excellent,” Mr. Evans clapped you on the shoulder. “I’ll put through your papers personally. They dock in three days, you can report to the shipyard at 0700 on Sunday, their Commander will meet you there.”
“Thank you so much, Sir, this is…” you shook your head, suddenly at a loss for words. Instead, you stuck your hand out and shook Mr. Evans’.
“Good luck out there, Lieutenant. You’re going to do an amazing job.”
You smiled at your old commanding officer as he turned back toward the Bradbury shuttles.
As soon as he was out of earshot you jumped and punched the air. The Enterprise. What an opportunity.
Then it hit you. Pavel Chekov was on the Enterprise. Was he the pilot? No, the navigator. You’d find out for sure soon enough.
You skipped down the sidewalk, wondering how you were going to tell your parents that you wouldn’t be coming home after all.
--
A tall, commanding Vulcan greeted you at the shipyard. He opted to shake your hand, although you were well aware that this was not Vulcan custom.
“Lieutenant Y/L/N,” he said in that alarmingly flat tone you were familiar with from your records. “I am Commander Spock. I have read your file.”
“I hope it was promising,” you ventured, following him onto a shuttlepod.
“Extremely. Your letters of reference show that you have a great deal of potential.”
Was that a compliment?
“Thank you, sir,” you said with a curt nod.
“Lieutenant Commander Reyes has every intention of returning to work once she has recovered,” Mr. Spock continued. “I do not wish to imply that you will remain in the position you have been reassigned for, however, if what I have read is true, we may want to discuss a new position for you when Ms. Reyes returns.”
“What type of position?” you asked, feeling the nervous churning in your stomach start to peak again.
“We will discuss that with Lieutenant Commander Reyes. She will be leading you through your first week aboard the ship and, in fact, it was she that suggested we retain your expertise. I agree with her.”
“Well, that’s unexpected,” you said, following quickly with: “but not unwelcome. I appreciate you telling me ahead of time.”
“Certainly,” Mr. Spock nodded with a shadow of a smirk on his lips. “In the meantime, I have here your assignment details including your room assignment and your appointment time with our quartermaster.”
“Quartermaster?” you asked, looking down at your PADD and seeing the file the Commander sent you. “But I already have all of my standard issue -”
“We have some upgraded equipment for you,” Mr. Spock nodded as he spoke. “And Starfleet has decided to reevaluate its uniforms. We are all being issued the updated design.”
“I didn’t hear anything about this on the Bradbury.”
“We are their, as the Captain says, ‘guinea pigs.’”
“Ah,” you raised your eyebrows as if heard a Vulcan say “guinea pigs” wasn’t the funniest thing you’d heard this week.
And all those things I didn't say
Wrecking balls inside my brain
I will scream them loud tonight
Can you hear my voice this time?
There, across the room, stood Pavel Chekov. He was… a lot broader than the last time you saw him. Granted, you graduated the academy a year before he did, so he was what, sixteen the last time you saw him? He wasn’t a kid anymore. Nor were you; you wondered how you’d changed.
You bit your lip and crossed the rec room without stopping at the replicator as planned.
The man across the table from Pavel looked up at you and raised an eyebrow as you made awkward eye contact with him. Instead of looking away and attempting to play cool, you gave him a friendly smile and walked a little faster.
“You’re new,” the man said with a smile. “Can we help you find something?”
That’s when Pavel turned around. He flushed when your eyes met and he jumped out of his chair, the piece of furniture teetering dangerously before settling back on its legs.
“I didn’t know you vere coming!” he cried, trying to stick his hand out to shake yours but thinking better of it and throwing his arms around you with a hearty laugh. “You look amazing!”
The heat coming off his chest was enough to startle you. You exchanged a look with Pavel’s amused friend before winding your arms around his waist and squeezing him once before he let you go to step back and look at you.
“You are here because of Lieutenant Commander Reyes?” he asked, his eyes wandering up and down your whole body once before he examined your face. “Боже мой, you look so different out of ze reds.”
“I was going to say the same. You’re in gold, then?” you asked.
“Да, I ended up svitching,” he rubbed the back of his head. “I just remember vat happened during your last semester, and I couldn’t let zat happen again.”
“I heard you were a navigator now,” you tried to keep the conversation from derailing. You could do without talking about that in front of other people. It still brought heat to your cheeks.
“Да,” he said quietly. “Do you want to have a coffee or lunch or something?”
“That’s actually why I was here, but I don’t want to tear you away from your friend,” you looked around Pavel at the man sitting at the table behind him
“Don’t mind me,” he said with a kind smile, “we weren’t doing anything important and you two could probably use the time to catch up.”
He stood up and stuck his hand out.
“Hikaru Sulu,” he said.
“Y/N Y/L/N,” you shook his hand.
“Happy birthday, by the way,” he smirked and wandered off toward the exit.
“So you’re telling people about my birthday now?” you looked up at Pavel.
“I voss just telling him zat…” Pavel seemed to reevaluate his answer.
“That what?”
“Zat I vanted to call you but I vouldn’t know vhat to say.”
“Well this is better than a call I think,” you looked back at the replicator. “Coffee? Tea?”
“Coffee,” he nodded and brushed past you to get to the replicator.
You sat and waited for him to return.
“I can’t beliewe you’re here; did you know I voss here?” he asked as he sat down, placing your favourite latte in front of you and settling in with his own cup of coffee.
“I did know, yes, that’s part of why I accepted this assignment.”
“Really?” he beamed. “After everything?”
“Well,” you felt your ears get hot again, “in the grand scheme of things you didn’t really do anything, Pav. I mean, you did kind of freak out…”
“I ruined our relationship,” he said, leaning forward. “For schoolvork. I ignored you because of somesing so -”
“It was important and don’t tell me it wasn’t,” you wagged a finger at him. “And to be honest, that was probably the best thing that ever happened to me.”
“How could it possibly be?’ he crossed his arms on the table and listened.
“I stopped thinking about relationships,” you admitted. “I started focussing on my work, trying to become better. I made great strides in my field -”
“I read your articles.”
“See? And I couldn’t have done all that if I was busy trying to make friends and go on dates and things like that. I mean, I’ve come a long way and I think I can multitask now, but I was so young then and I needed the focus. You really saved my life.”
“Ve vere too young,” Pavel conceded. “I’m still sorry, I said some sings…”
“Please, forget about it,” you reached out and touched his arm. “Like you said, we were too young. I’m not holding any of it close to my chest. I just want to reconnect, if you want to.”
“I do.”
This is my fight song
Take back my life song
Prove I'm alright song
My power's turned on
Starting right now I'll be strong
I'll play my fight song
And I don't really care if nobody else believes
'Cause I've still got a lot of fight left in me
“We’re hoping to offer you the position as the lead of this project,” Lieutenant Commander Reyes said as she finished her speech. “I should be back to work within 6 months’ time, and from there we can get this project started.”
“I would be honoured, really,” you beamed ear-to-ear as you shook the Lieutenant Commander’s hand again. She had essentially offered you a research position. With your expertise on inter-species relations, you would be spearheading a project to document crew dynamics on a ship that hosted so many crew members of varying species. This would be the stuff of articles for years to come.
“Excellent,” Reyes said, leading you back down the hall from the main archiving room. “You’re settling in well so far?”
“I think so ma’am,” you said, “I’m looking forward to getting started tomorrow.”
“I’m sure you are,” Reyes smiled at you. “I gleaned from some of your recommendation letters that you aren’t the most sociable crew member of all time? Why is that? You seem very friendly to me.”
“It’s more of a choice, ma’am. I had a bad experience mixing work with pleasure once and I tried to avoid that position again. However, I’ve since made some strides in that department and I think that I will be improving in that field shortly.”
“I hope so, because your job is going to be very difficult if your crew members find you prickly,” Reyes warned. “You are an incredible young woman. I can’t believe you’ve made so many amazing strides in such a short time.”
“I was singled out when I was very young,” you explained. “I got this letter from Starfleet when I was fourteen asking me to come and join up. How could I say no? I think they wanted me to be an engineer or something, but I chose anthropology instead. The whole point of getting off the planet is to explore and document after all, isn’t it?”
“Quite right. I think they made a good choice,” Reyes smiled at you. “Go finish getting settled in, we’ll meet here bright and early tomorrow morning.”
“Yes, ma’am.”
--
When you got back to your room you had two messages on your PADD.
The first was from your parents, begging you to reconsider your choice and come home. Starfleet could do without one more anthropologist.
“Not this one,” you muttered as you ignored the message.
The second was from Pavel.
Happy birthday! Can I take you out?
Where? you messaged back.
You went to the mirror and reorganized your hair as the PADD beeped to notify you about your reply.
Realistically I can only offer you my quarters or the mess hall.
Yours sounds great. Where are you?
Outside.
You raised your eyebrows and strode to your door, opening it to Pavel’s face.
“You weren’t kidding,” you said.
“Come viss me,” he held out his hand and you took it, following him down the hall and around the corner.
“You’re just here?” you said with surprise.
“Ve are just zat lucky,” he grinned and let you in first.
You turned around to say something but you were met with his lips on yours. You raised your eyebrows and reached out to touch him and found his hands.
He let you go after a moment and looked at you.
“I sought zat maybe -”
“Yes, please,” you whispered, leaning back in and kissing him again, briefly, “I missed you so much.”
“Ewen after ewerysing I did? Ewerysing I said?”
“You were under tremendous stress,” you murmured, leaning your forehead on his. “So was I. We let something good slip by because we were so wrapped up in our own stuff we couldn’t see the value of what we had. I mean, it was probably for the best, look at us now. You’re the navigator on the flagship and I’ve got more articles under my belt than any person my age has a right to.”
“So now ve are able to see vat ve hawe,” he said, staring into your eyes.
“We certainly can,” you kissed him again. “I’m sorry, too, you know.”
“Newer be,” he kissed you and then backed up. “Vat do you vant to eat? It’s your birsday, after all. I hawe some mowies, too, ve can vatch somesing vhile ve eat.”
