mission debriefing after the Prisoner's Dilemma that just turns into a debate between Lance and Hunk as to which haunted ghost ship was scarier- the Altean one or the Galra one.

Hunk: See, I can see the argument for the Altean ship being scarier. There were actual corpses on that one, so that's already really freaky. But it was also smaller, you know? And there wasn't an actual monster on it, just like. metaphorical monsters. Although it was pretty freaky seeing an Altean ship so dark. Galra ships are always dark so that aspect didn't actually bother me that much. On the other hand, the Galra ship also had a bunch of destroyed sentries floating around and was just. so big. You see what I'm saying?

What is Pyre, Noddy, and Vvorn's speech like? Do they have distinct accents? Or any other notable ways of speaking, like using particular phrases, slang, or terms of endearment?

Bonus question: What do their voices sound like?

Pyre is a strong, silent type, but when he talks, he tends to speak very carefully/formally, with very little contractions/shorthand. It's because his first language isn't Common, but Thayan. I tend to describe his voice as "surprisingly soft" for a man his size. He's a Big Buff Dude, and his voice is deep-ish but not really as deep as you'd expect? I'd put him at a low tenor at best.

Noddy CHATTERS. His voice is kind of high-pitched and scratchy/rough, and the way I'd describe it is kind of like... If that noise cats make when they wanted to kill something were translated into English. He talks REALLY fast, and his accent is kind of all over the place, patched-together (much like his brain <3) and inconsistent. He tends to call people pet names REALLY condescendingly, lots of "darling" and "sweetheart" on "honey" and some ruder and cruder variation. He's also got a MAJOR potty mouth. His singing voice is sort of low and husky (and surprisingly sexy) but still not terribly deep. He CAN do the fuckin pig squeals tho.

Vvornth has a DEEP bassy voice with a bit of a rasp. Comes from deep inside his chest, a bit sibilant here and there as it goes past his teeth and tongue, and he tends to make a lot of weird reptilian clicks/chattering noises when he's thinking (not too hard... got that 8 int...) or spacing out (far more likely) He also growls and rumbles a lot, snorts for emphasis. He speaks fairly slowly, sort of ponderously, really seems like he's thinkin but i assure you he is not <3

My much dumber opinion about Jesse Anderson is that the reason he’s Like That is he’s actually danish but as a small boy his plane went down over Texas and some wise cowboys found him and were like “He is the Chosen One.”

And they took him in and trained him in the ways of ranch handling and he fufilled some sacred western prophecy and then he had a tearful goodbye and went back to Denmark. He still visits the ranch during summers.

So many of the reasons people give for why Americans are "rude" "ignorant" or "self centered" are literally just cultural differences or language differences - and often specifically cultural difference that came about due to a long history of immigration - and it's just nuts to me. Like people from outside the U.S. assume they understand American culture from interacting with our media and then when it turns out Disney movies don't capture the whole of the American experience they get mad about it

#I think language is a great example of this #like in European especially what is and isn't considered a language often has more to do with politics than anything else #but in the U.S if you understand each other then congrats! you speak the same language and that's your homie now #which is why Americans will say things like I speak Scandinavian #or call Scotts a Scottish Accent #and Europeans get mad at that because to them it's a sperate language #but to their American diasporas it's absolutely not #and infact insisting that they were separate languages probably would have meant the didn't survive in the U.S. #same thing goes for smiling - bluntness - the way we talk about states vs. countries - etc #and also some of the ways Y'ALL go about addressing these cultural differences #come across as very rude and self centered to us #so you know it goes both ways #*Europe
