I drew my favorite abusively codependent psychic axolotl <3
Image descriptions: Three illustrations of Hollow from Scavengers Reign. Hollow is a four-legged creature who sort of vaguely resembles an axolotl with a cone head. In the first, Hollow is very chubby, sitting back, and thinking “I’m hungy.” In the other two pictures, a smaller Hollow crouches, viewed from two angles.

Ok, for real Scavengers Reign fan art this time
This show is so criminally underrated I was hard pressed to find screenshots online to reference
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I don't usually make fan art, but I was feeling it today
(This is your sign to watch it and support good original animation)
Process timelapse:

Scavengers Reign being a completely original adult sci fi series is such a rare blessing rn, but with that said since it kind of has to build up a fanbase from the ground up (also partially due to the fact it was barely marketed) so trying to find cool fan art is like trying to find water in a desert.
but with that being said, I've jokingly considered that a fanbase has properly formed only when someone out there draws/writes porn about it and the fact that the first fan fic made for this show is Azi and Levi erotica is hilarious. Bless you robot fuckers for doing the heavy lifting, truly the backbone of our society

The Last-Minute Sci-Fi Gift Guide
There's only one thing worse than procrastinating on getting gifts for your loved ones, and that's procrastinating on putting together a guide to help out everyone else with all those gifts. It's Dec 12, so you can decide for yourself which I'm doing.
Tumblr media
Art book: Worlds Beyond Time, $32
If you follow this blog, you might have heard of this one. I published Worlds Beyond Time: Sci-Fi Art of the 1970s this year after five years of work on it, and I think it's really good! 400+ images, 100+ artists, with lots of fun art history and jokes.
Also, it's just $20 right now if you order through my publisher and use the code SKIPTHELINE! Cheapest it's ever been!
Tumblr media
Card game: Coup, $14
In this "social deduction" card game, you play as a government official in a future dystopia who needs to backstab their way into power. Everyone starts out with just two cards in this bluffing game, so the tide can turn pretty quick when players start assassinating each other's cards. The fast pace makes it a good gift for someone who loves spies but thinks they don't like card games.
Tumblr media
Game to play over Zoom: Bad Spaceships, $3
If a bluffing game stresses you out, try Bad Spaceships: It's a collaborative world-building game in which you roll dice to see what area of your spaceship connects to another, forcing you to spitball exactly why this is the case. As the game puts it, you might fix the hull by playing Tetris, or charge your weapons in the swimming pool. You're basically getting weird prompts to tell a story that can evolve over the course of the game.
It's such an indie game that it comes as PDFs you download from itch.io, but you can play it just as well over Zoom, if you're looking for an excuse to catch up with your old digital nomad college friend.
Tumblr media
Movies/TV: Streaming service gift card
Gift cards are all well and good, but you can personalize them by recommending a few of your favorite shows as well. I suggest:
Hulu: Cowboy Bebop
Apple TV+: Severance
Criterion Channel: Ravenous, Paprika, Strange Days
Paramount+: Yellowjackets
Amazon Prime: The Devil's Hour
But to be honest, this entry is just an excuse to talk about the new Max show Scavenger’s Reign. Inspired by the work of French artist Moebius and with a clear debt to famed 70s animated film Fantastic Planet, this stylish sci-fi show features a bunch of humans trying to survive on a beautiful but hostile alien world. Perfect for lovers of fictional nature.
Tumblr media
Vintage sci-fi
This Etsy shop has some good stuff, like the 1971 Frank Kelly Freas NASA poster above, a bit of history that I even mentioned on page 167 of my art book.
Tumblr media
Penguin science fiction postcards, $28
These postcards have a ton of very cool sci-fi covers I've blogged in the past – great value if you want a lot of art for a low cost.
Tumblr media
Meteorite pendant necklace, $34
I think we all know what kind of rock your loved ones need around their neck: A chunk of meteorite straight out of the 1576 Argentinan meteorite fall.
Tumblr media
Book recs
For astronauts: Packing for Mars by Mary Roach, The New Guys: The Historic Class of Astronauts That Broke Barriers and Changed the Face of Space Travel by Meredith Bagby
For comedians: Gideon the Ninth by Tamsyn Muir, Even Greater Mistakes: Short Stories by Charlie Jane Anders
For sleuths: Six Wakes by Mur Lafferty, Drunk on All Your Strange New Words by Eddie Robson
For crafters: Knits of Tomorrow: Toys and Accessories for your Retro-Future Needs
For the resistance fighters: The Light Brigade by Kameron Hurley, An Unkindness of Ghosts by Rivers Solomon
For slasher movie fans: Clown in a Cornfield by Adam Cesare
Tumblr media
Syd Mead "Biomorph Vehicle" button down shirt, $49
T-shirts aren't classy enough for the world's coolest visual futurist, Syd Mead. I haven't actually bought this incredibly odd shirt, but I really need to.
Tumblr media
Art prints (and more) from 70s sci-fi artists
Artist shops can be surprisingly hard to track down on the internet, but here's a short list of ones I've come across. All of these artists are featured in my book (except one), so you can read up on them before you commit to a print.
Michael Whelan
John Harris
Syd Mead
Don Maitz
David B Mattingly
Peter Andrew Jones - Jones was one of just a few artists who declined to be included in my art book, but he has a distinct, colorful style that I would have loved to have featured!
Finally, here's one extra bonus, just for everyone who made it to the end of this article: The UK-based educational charity Centre for Computing History sells three big officially licensed John Harris posters featuring these three artworks, famous for their use as covers for Sinclair programming manuals.
Tumblr media
It's a great deal that I've never seen mentioned anywhere, and Harris' work has a timeless quality that makes it great for an unassuming wall decoration. If you're outside the UK, the shipping costs will be a pain, but there's no better deal for a classic sci-fi poster.

Nine people I'd like to know better
Tagged by @hauntingyourself (honestly I never expect anyone to think of me on these things. thanks.)
Last song: Infraliminal by REZZMAU5 (Rezz and Deadmau5 collab, i need them to score my fucking life)
Favourite colour: like a nice earthy and dark forest/mossy green. really dark blue is another hit
Currently watching: recently finished Pluto (of the Astro Boy variety) and going to pick up Scavenger's Reign very soon
Last movie/tv show: The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2011), see current obsession below
Spicy/savoury/sweet: spicy takes the top, but only by a few points
Relationship status: recently married, monogamous
Current obsession: in terms of media, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2011). I should make some fan art soon.
Last thing you googled: aside from coding stuff for work, the last thing was Gene Wilder, apparently.
Tagging: @prider-parker @floq @fishing-for-blood @cookietastic @theelvishscribbler @thedoormann @copperbadge and just for shits and giggles @lionsenpai @voidkatten
Don't mean to be a bother to some of you (to others I definitely meant to be a bother) I just genuinely have a hard time thinking of people for these.

Scavengers Reign anon again, there is a woman a bit like them yus, her name is Fiona! (I don't want to spoil anything should warn you the show is not a comedy and if you have any triggers related to gore it might not be the show for you) (check the doesthedogdie website if you want too have a list of specifics)
Love your art btw! It's super cute!
Hello again!! I googled Fiona and you're so right, she's exactly my type of character and this makes me excited!! Thank you about the warnings too, usually I don't mind gore (I'm a big horror fan, I mean), but some kinds I do so it will be nice to check

Yo I was tagged by @soft-serve-soymilk to do a thing! I'ma tag a few folks but no pressure to do it: @gallyg @abelunwilling @giacofmanytrades
Hey I'm Knell, a grown up who seems to be treading a lot of old ground lately. I was active on tumbr from like 2013-2017 when I went by they, and now I'm a boy and finding tumblr to my tastes again. I'm a fan ficcer, theorizer, and art appreciator. Maybe someday I'll get back to posting my oc art on this website.
Current Book I'm Reading: Eh, I'm not. I really should be bc it puts me in a tranquil brain space. Piranesi and The Electric State are both kind of competing to be my next read.
Last song I listened to: The Chocobo Mystery Dungeon Theme lol
Currently Watching: Crime Scene Kitchen. It's so dumb and I love it.
Next on my Watchlist: Oh gosh, Idk. Wake me up when Fraggle Rock comes back, or Scavengers Reign.
Current Obsession: Kind of between them. Scavengers Reign, but that just got over and lately I've been diving into ENA theory vids. Wild that both of the stories take places in worlds that make internal sense, but seem random and brutal to those looking in. I really love those kind of settings in specfic.
Hey thanks for tagging me! I like doing these every once in a while.

Me, I guess!
Hiii, I'm Lila! 🌺
Pronouns are she/her, I'm transgender, extremely sapphic, and 25yo. 😅 Also, sorry to announce I am french I cannot help it 🙄
pfp by: BM94199
header: bee and puppycat
DNI: racists, homophobes, transphobes, fatphobes, ableists, minors, ageless blogs, blogs with no content, catfishy/bot NSFW blogs.
I mainly reblog fanart/artwork and trans/queer-related things, and post stuff as if this was twitter.
What I like:
-Video Games (mainly interested in Sea of Thieves, Cyberpunk 2077, the Borderlands series, The Crew Motorfest, Rainbow Six Siege, but I also quite liked No Man's Sky, the Life is Strange games (especially True Colors), Zelda (BotW, TotK, Minish Cap), Stardew Valley and Stray.
(ALSO I AM A HUGE OUTER WILDS FAN!).
I play on PC and Nintendo Switch.
The 245 in my @ is from my favorite Pokémon's National Pokédex number 😌
-Music (mainly rock or anything that has an electric guitar that sounds like it wants to wake up the dead; OR pretty much anything that I think sounds cool, regardles of genre)
My fav bands and artists right now are Rebecca Black, Ok Goodnight and a silly little british duo that made my teenage years: Anavae.
-Manga/anime: deeply in love with One Piece since circa 2012, but right now aside from that I'm kinda falling out of the whole anime and manga side of culture right now.
I have watched stuff like Cyberpunk Edgerunners, Shingeki No Kyojin (this is both a Floch hate account and a Pieck Finger fan account btw), Death Note, Parasyte, JoJo, Horimiya.
-TV/Movies: TWD universe, the MCU, I really liked Snowfall, The Expanse, Bee and Puppycat, the live action of One Piece, one of my absolute favourites in 2023 has been Scavengers Reign.
I (used to) like writing (▶ that means I stopped at some point but I wanna get back into it), I enjoy art (even better when it has queer themes). I love science fiction, but I'm a wicked ignorant who didn't interact with 95% of the classics 🤷‍♀️
I'm kinda into cars but will probably never afford the ones I like, which are the 2005 Ford GT, the Honda NSX and any of the Mazda models with the Wankel engine in it and the cute pop up headlights.
Other than that I like clothes a lot (favs styles are all over the place but to name a few: pastel goth, cottagecore, grunge, actual goth, but really, anything vintage.), and makeup too but I sadly can't really get into that yet, so I'm just an observer currently 😅
What I dislike:
-TERFs 💀
-People to prideful to admit they're wrong
-Capitalism
-Anything associated with the right wing
-AI, specifically its use as a substitute for artistic talent
