—Jihee was also featured in EXO-SC '1 Billion Views'
—On November 1st, 2019, SM gave her permission to create her instagram account because she was starting to get recognized as an actress from the drama Extraordinary You, however at that time she was only posting things related to the drama.
—She's really close with TWICE's Sana and Red Velvet's Joy.
—She's in a group chat with female idols from 97 line.
—F(x)'s Krystal, SNSD's Jessica and Tifanny, and Super Junior's Henry used to take care of her when she was a trainee.

Some Passing Thoughts on the New Miraculous Episodes
Finally got around to watching the fansubs of the Shanghai special and “Truth” (I’m still waiting for the other episodes to come out before watching Furious Fu).
Miraculous World: Shanghai – The Legend of Ladydragon
I have to say, I might change my mind later if the Prodigious proves to be more crucial to the overall lore of the series, but right now? Yeah. This special is a major skip for me.
I did not connect with Fei the way I fell in love with Jess and Aeon. I am so pissed at the set-up the writers came up with to GET Marinette to Shanghai; her reasoning is the most selfish thing we have ever seen her do and it is such an injustice to her character. Plus, it is like neither Ladybug nor Chat Noir learned anything from the New York trip as they both show up in Shanghai kind of spur of the moment (i.e. didn’t tell the other they were leaving Paris). In fact, Marinette - again, going back to my hatred for the setup to get her to China - didn’t even CONSIDER the fact that Paris would be left unprotected; that Ladybug would be MIA. Granted, it was stated that Hawk Moth was surprisingly inactive, but shouldn’t that put her on hyper-alert; waiting for the other shoe to drop and Hawky to release something big that he was building up to? Instead she just lowers her guard and doesn’t even consider her superhero duties when planning on following Adrien.
Another annoying thing is that the writers didn’t seem to learn anything from backlash against the episode “Kung Fu.” They just once again have Adrien be the one offering to teach Marinette Mandarin; not her mother (whose Chinese name Marinette never even knew), nor her great-uncle. Another writers flub was in the battle against Roi Argent. Ladybug questions Mei Shi’s suggestion that revenge does not equal justice (if that was translated properly), and... I’m pretty sure Marinette already showcased in previous episodes such as “Silencer” that she very much knows that revenge doesn’t equal justice??? She’s the one who corrected Chat Noir that Silencer coercing Bob Roth to admit he stole from Kitty Section and Marinette isn’t justice; it’s revenge. So???? HUH? NOW she magically feels like Fei’s revenge on Cash is justice for what he did to her?
If all of that wasn’t bad enough, the pacing of this special was in complete overdrive as well. You didn’t have any of those emotional moments - both heart breaking and fluff-bombs - that you had in the NY special. The focus was largely on Fei, and I didn’t even really like her. She didn’t have the heart and the fully-fleshed characterization that Jess or Aeon had.
I’m also confused about Gabriel spending the past 15 years planning this whole thing. HOW!? WHY!? This is before Adrien was even born, or VEEERY shortly after if we skipped over his 15th birthday in the series. This was LOOOOOOONG before Emilie’s illness, which is presumably why Gabriel started using the butterfly miraculous in the first place (as showcased by Gabe in Origins asking Nooroo to remind him how the powers even work before using them for the first time in a corrupted state on Adrien’s first day of public school). So, if getting the Great Power of the Prodigious was something he was planning on doing literally all of Adrien’s life, why present it as “I found something that can finally give me an edge against Ladybug and Chat Noir”? I mean, what was his original endgame going to be? He couldn’t have possibly known that he’d be in dire need for the cat and ladybug jewels but struggled to take them from two teenage superheroes. It’s like the writers are trying to set him up as some mastermind akin to David Xanatos from Disney’s Gargoyles, but they are failing miserably. The whole Hawk Moth plot just doesn’t make sense to me.
Honestly? The only things that made this special worth it for me were: 1) Finding out a bit more about Sabine and her family (I love that she probably picked the name Sabine because it sounded like the pronunciation of her Chinese name) 2) Seeing Gorilla be his action figure nerd self a bit more (and the action figures of Uncanny Valley and Eagle) 3) Mei Shi in Renling (?) form, who was hella adorable! I need him as a plushie STAT 4) Adrien being the precious bean that he is. Just every moment he’s on screen was adorable (complete with him STILL having the picture of Marinette that was sent to him in “Evillustrator” saved to his baton and using that to try to find her) 5) Seeing the world through the eyes of a kwami for the first time and learning a touch more non-crucial lore 6) Mei Shi in statue form reminding me of the Dragon costume on The Masked Singer.
Tumblr media
(I know, seeing them side-by-side now, they really aren’t that similar after all, but it’s been about a year since Dragon was on The Masked Singer, and he’s still what I kept thinking of as I watched Mei Shi on screen)
While I obsessively watched the New York special at least a dozen times, I’m really only seeing myself re-watch this special once more when it’s in English, and maybe whenever I do a full-series binge (which is super rare that I take the time for that).
Not impressed. Sorry.
Truth
“Truth”, on the other hand? Hhhhhnnnnnngggg. My heart! It breaks! Poor Marinette. Poor poor Luka. I mean, silver linings at the end there, but also BIG OOF. (Also, why wasn’t Adrien around at all whenever Truth made people confess that Marinette’s secret was her love for Adrien? xDDD)
I’m also a bit confused about the Adrien pictures. She had them taken down pretty much since “Troublemaker”, and yet her walls are once more papered with Adrien’s likeness now that Marinette is trying to get over him and date Luka? How does THAT make any sense outside of the writers going “we need an awkward phone call between Marinette and Luka. Oh! I know! A picture of her Adrien-covered bedroom walls is accidentally sent to Luka!” >3> Also.... what is UP with Luka’s animation again!? The kid was so pale it’s like they forgot to add any color to his model in this episode. WHY CAN’T THEY JUST ANIMATE MY PRECIOUS SON LOOKING HANDSOME EVER!? FIRST NO EYELASHES, AND NOW NO SKIN TONE!? WHYYYYYYYYY!? Personally, I prefer “Silencer” to “Truth” both in overall story and in Luka’s akumatized form design. Also, side note, did anyone else notice that Ladybug was hit by Luka’s attack and couldn’t speak for most of the battle both times? And that she needed Chat Noir to help her set up her Lucky Charm both times? And that Luka’s drive both times was to get to the truth?
I did still enjoy this episode very much. It showcases the new stresses Marinette has to face (totally unfair; I agree. However, it’s a standard trope in most teenage superhero stories such as Teen Titans and Spider-Man, so I was expecting it). It showcases how hard it is for her to figure out a balance between life and superheroing (again, re: standard teen-superhero trope). The fans get confirmation on a fantheory that’s been circling pretty much since Luka was introduced (ESPECIALLY after the episode “Desperada”). The Ladynoir shippers are well fed, and it’s great to see LB and CN praise each other - including Ladybug’s love of Chat Noir’s humor.
I hope this isn’t the end of us seeing Luka in the show (that would break my heart even more) and it feels lame to build up the Lukanette “love rival” arc only for it to die off before it really goes anywhere. There was so much story potential there where Marinette could grow to learn what it truly means to be in love, and not just idolize and romanticize someone you’re infatuated with. Instead, all she learned is that she is alone aside from Chat Noir, and I feel like that’s SUUUUPER railroading the Ladynoir ship. And, frankly, I’d much prefer to see the Ladynoir side grow naturally, as it has been, instead of forcing Marinette’s hand because Chat Noir is the only one she can be MOSTLY honest with (secret identities notwithstanding).
It’s been a long hiatus. I’ve spent a lot of time trying to dodge fandom salt, but still get a larger dose than I intended to have in my fandom diet, so maybe my views are a bit tainted from that. However, this special and season premiere feel a bit like the writers are stumbling. I don’t know if the pandemic somehow affected their writing flow, or if they feel pressured by the fans to tell the series’ story a certain way and are scrambling to do so, or if they are rushing to an ending instead of taking their time and letting it naturally unfold as they had with the first few seasons. But, regardless of their reason, I hope they re-find themselves; the ones who told great stories in seasons 1 and 2 and (poor writing for Marinette notwithstanding) really good stories in season 3. I hope they can step up their game for the remainder of season 4.
It’s been a long break, and we all deserve something good to feed us. We don’t need another GoT or HIMYM final season. Especially when this isn’t even supposed to BE the final season of the series.
Guess it’s time to wait for “Lies” to come out, and hope for the best.

Batman TAS: Tyger, Tyger
“Kong carried her off. I mean, we’re talkin’ primal here.”
Tumblr media
Episode: 42 Robin: No Writers: Cherie Wilkerson (teleplay), Michael Reaves (story), and Randy Rogel (Story) Director: Frank Paur Animator: Dong Yang Airdate: October 30, 1992 Grade: C
Alright, so what the hell kind of episode was that, anyway? I’ve been noticing that as of recent, the tone of Batman TAS is shifting. We’re not so much getting the Two-Face stories, the P.O.V. type of episodes or the It’s Never Too Late-style entries. Night of the Ninja was the start of it, feeling different than the typical, but Tyger, Tiger is where we possibly get the most experimental yet, and the most fantastic. Yeah, our first episode featured a mad scientist turning into a giant bat, but we still got exposure to the police force, we were in the city, and for the most part it felt like a Batman episode, did it not? This one did not, and while not awful, it’s not one of my favorites. It rubs me in some wrong ways, and I find it struggling to watch. I get too weirded out.
Tumblr media
We start out at the Gotham zoo, and we see Selina Kyle again. Always cool to see what comes next in her story. Dong Yang is in charge of animation here, but unfortunately we don’t get to see her in her costume to take advantage of it. Some creepy guy who we find out in part gorilla or some type of ape shoots her with a tranquilizer dart and kidnaps her from the zoo. Selina sneaking into the place after hours to see the oddly-colored tiger is pretty dorky. It borders a bit on pushing her cat gimmick too far, but it’s better than in Cat Scratch Fever where we just so happen to get an episode all about cats and it just so happens to feature Selina. In Tyger, Tyger it comes off a little bit more naturally since her Catwoman persona is the reason she’s being kidnapped in the first place, giving a reason to much of the cat-themed elements we’ll get.
Tumblr media
So after Selina is kidnapped, we see that she has been taken to a lab so that this red-headed scientist (who almost looks like he has devil horns because of his hairstyle) can experiment on her, and turn her into this cat-like creature. Coincidentally, Jim Cummings provides three of the voices this episode, including the voice of Tybrus, another laboratory experiment. Cummings also voiced a cat-creature in Scooby Too on Zombie Island, and I was hoping we’d get a voice like that. Or even a model like that. Tybrus is supposedly the ultimate life-form, and I’m not sure if he was ever human at any point. I got the impression that he was concocted in a way similar to Frankenstein’s monster, taking different elements from different creatures and forming something completely new. His design is pretty neat, resembling a feline-esque werewolf, but again, I wish he could have looked a little more like Jacque from Zombie Island (I am aware that this episode came out long before that, though). Oh, and I suppose there is a little bit of an elephant in this room. In the credits to the episode, and basically every online resource, his name is spelled “Tygrus”. But watching the episode, they clearly say “Tybrus”, so that’s how I’m going to spell it. Someone made a mistake somewhere, and I would assume it’s more likely for it to be a typo than a mispronunciation, considering how many times his name is said.
Tumblr media
Selina gets injected by the doctor in a pretty horrific scene. She is strapped down, and we get to watch her silhouette as the sciency stuff is put right into her neck.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Meanwhile, Batman has a chat with Dr. Langstrom who was the one that transformed into the Man-Bat in the very first episode of the series. Yeah, not only has the tone been shifting a little bit lately, continuity has been playing a bigger role. Dr. Langstrom tells Batman about Emile Dorian, the scientist, and shows Batman one of his experiments, which looks to be a cat-monkey hybrid. It’s kinda cute.
Tumblr media
Worrying for Selina, and knowing of Dorian’s habit of experimenting on humans, he finds Dorian’s lab which is located on a privately-owned island, and breaks in. Here we, along with Batman, see Selina in her new body. And wowzers. What the hell. I hate it, guys, I hate it. What am I looking at here. This does not look like a Bruce Time design at all, and ahhh, where do I begin. First of all, she’s this kinda ugly mustard-color. And I get that thus far we’ve seen Selina Kyle as a blonde, but we needed some addition shading or something in there. It’s so matte, and that extends to her fur-texture in general. She looks kinda like plastic, and when you add I the lines that separate her legs from her torso, it really is a grotesque look. Selina could look beautiful as a cat-creature. And this is what they went with.
Tumblr media
The rest of the episode involves Batman needing to outrun Tybrus in order to obtain Dorian’s antidote for Selina. Some of the animation here is top-notch, and I feel like it’s been a little while since we’ve seen the show look this heavily-stylized. There is also a lack of music, which is always used to great effect on this show. And when there is music, it aids the story perfectly. When we first see Selina’s catlike body, the stringed instruments spit into this warped frenzy that highlights how actually messed up this guy Dorian is. As Batman is pursued, we get hints of the story The Most Dangerous Game which was a great read when I was in middle school. I guess The Island of Doctor Moreau is referenced too (I’ve never read it) and of course The Tyger. But not being familiar with those, I just caught The Most Dangerous Game. Eventually, Batman and Selina meet up, only to be confronted by a Tybrus who can apparently speak English. Tybrus has been told by Dorian that if Batman is killed, he can have Selina all to himself, something that is simply not true (Selina wants no part of this weird-ass relationship). It’s a little uncomfortable to see Tybrus attempting to court this hideous-looking version of what was once a human. But at the same time, after Dorian is defeated by Tybrus, it’s somehow so sad to see Tybrus refuse to leave with Batman and Selina. Before giving them the antidote, Tybrus asks Selina if she’d like to stay as a cat and live with him. When she says “no”, he seems to almost take this as an end to any hope of him feeling as though he belongs and being happy. Knowing that Selina doesn’t ever want to remain the type of creature that he has no choice in being must be really, really painful. We end with him making his way back into the forest of the island, destined to live alone. It’s a really deep dilemma that justifies some of the weird things the episode pitches. Of course, slightly before this, the episode tries to trick us into thinking Tybrus is dead, and this didn’t really work. I did laugh at the idea, though, of Batman saying, “No need for tears yet, Selina” and then staring at the door to the destroyed lab, only for Tybrus to just never show up. “Okay. I suppose tears are called for now.”
Tumblr media
So yeah, we have a pretty mixed bag. The story is decent, but it’s a little too out there for Batman the Animated Series. We have some great animation, great music, and great ambient sounds, but then we also have Selina’s design and Tybrus’ voice which I also really don’t like at all. I also want more from Selina’s story. I’m glad that they’re giving her an ark, but I want some really strong Catwoman episodes. Hopefully they are to come.

Miraculous Ladybug 2x16 Troublemaker *Commentary*
I’ve done this five? times. And some people like it. But I’m doing this simply because I find myself funny. And I need to empty my brain. So, I hope you guys enjoy my brain dump.
Ok. To start off, Thanks so much to @wild-mare-of-prosecution for giving me a link to this episode. Second, The Incredibles was awesome. 😊
Disney in Spanish? FB page is Russian? Episode in English? Wow, so multicultural.
21 minutes and two of those will be intro and credits? Sigh.
Who’s the villain again? Cuz this white dude seems like every villain in every movie ever.
Why is the mayor supervising the hotel? See? This is why the city is crumbling!
I don’t pity her because she signed up for that job. EVERYONE knows that’s how shity it is.
How French with all the kissing and lack of personal space.
Yo. Those posters make Jagged look more Jagged. That black shirt thing makes him look hot. Stop it with the 80’s clothes. Go simple and awesome.
I wish I had subtitles.
This show is about finding wives, right?
Fill my shoes?! What? That’s an entirely different show, and a bad name.
Only because he likes his adopted niece, Marinette. Also, those lace gloves are. . .  (doesn’t want to say but can’t help it) delicately feminine.
I agree Sabine. I agree.
Every homemade show like this that has real like people, they always look and sound completely out of their element. That’s how you know they’re not actors. Also, Marinette, stop being such a fangirl.
She uses the same stress reliever I do. It’s pretty annoying during exams. It annoys even me. But it also calms me down.
When. . . when did he make … the guitar? And … how? He . . . sucks … at … baking….
There’s signal.
Also, I know Asian people can be smaller than average, but this is a joke.
Holy FUCK! I thought they were going to put on Careless Whisper for a second there!!!!
Sabine knows, Penny does the same shit as Marinette.
Who is Adrien excited to see? Jagged, or the croissants?
MARINETTE? NOOO. No way. Adrien -Just a friend- Agreste, did not just say that…
*sings* Juuuustt aaaa . . . . friiiiiieeeeeeennnnddddd!
TOM HAS GREEN EYES? Girls really do go for their fathers.
I paused, and fucking shit, that hair on Tom looks so real -the beard-.
Marinette’s clumsiness deserves an award. That was impressive. Minimal effort too. 9/10
Upstairs and vague? ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME?
… What’s with her screen saver? Did she have her computer recording Adrien while they were playing video games? That background is her room. I know someone else said it, but these are badly recycled screencaps. That could have at least made plain backdrops and they would have been believable.
If Marinette spent as much time finding where HawkMoth is as she does with collecting Adrien, Paris would be safe.
Play “Spot Random Pictures of Nino”, is fun. Which brings the question, they made random pics of Nino and they couldn’t do that with Adrien?
Adrien is dabbing in one of them.
After a throughout analysis of the pictures in Mari’s room I’m making the theory that Snapchat exists in their world and Mari just screenshots and prints Adrien’s feed.
Penny is so uncomfortable …. So am I. I don’t want to press play.
Plagg, you little shit.
Wait, how big is that house?
HOW BIG IS THAT HOUSE, THAT THEY HAVE TO REUSE THE STAIR ANIMATION?
ANOTHER FLOOR?
It would have been hilarious if Jagged had been dressed in the dress he’s holding. “Here I am modeling a Marinette original. Am I better than this model boy? I am a better model, aren’t I?”
R E S P E C T. ‘You heard the lady.” Well done Penny.
At least no one made a comment about her period. Also, is completely fair and about time she fucking put them in their place.
HOW DOES GABRIEL RUN A COMPANY IF HE SPENDS MOST OF HIS TIME WAITING IN THAT ROOM FOR SOMETHING TO HAPPEN, SO HE CAN DRAMATICALLY OPEN HIS WINDOW AND BE BAD?
Anime background again. Attack on titan?
I hate to admit, but I would have had the same panic attack. Social media is a bitch.
From that angle her hairstyle looked completely different and Mari looked more Asian.
What a strange lighting, it changes her eye color drastically.
“Plus, its too late already. The show’s live.” *marinette panics and looks at the camera* SOMEONE MAKE A GIF OF THAT AND SEND IT TO ME, ASAP! THIS WILL BE ALL I TEXT FROM NOW ON.
Sabine is a tiger mom and I L O V E IT! Also, Tom appears to be slightly intimidated by the tiny tiger mom.
Sabine is the best mom in the world. Tiger mom, kung fu mom. Caring mom. What else? Ultimately the most B A D A S S MOM IN THE WORLD.
Does… all of Paris have that same security system from Gabriel’s mansion? If so, why was Gabriel so confused by Chat knowing that that mansion had a security system?
What are you talking about? It’s perfect. You are already at the scene of the crime.
Adrien… that was lame.
What if Plagg only likes croissants because it reminds him of Tikki cuz she lives there… I’ll leave that one there for you guys.
Chat… You’re lucky you’re cute.
NO WAY HE LANDED LIKE THAT.
Sometimes I forget he does call her Bugaboo, and that’s not a head cannon.
No. I love Bugabo-
…. What if that was Astruc asking the fans to stop calling her Bugaboo?
Huh? My cat senses are tingling!
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. Why is Ladybug offering Chat Noir a tour of Marinette’s room? Why is Ladybug so uncomfortable of anyone seeing the pictures? Shouldn’t that arouse Adrien’s suspicion?
When teens hide pictures under their bed is because they do a solo bow-chick-a-bow-wow with them. Marinette has hit puberty. I don’t judge.
*Double checks Mari’s ‘porn’ stash* Adrien boxes?
JESUS CHRIST! WHY ARE THERE SO MANY PICTURES? AND WHY ARE THEY HIDDEN?
Nope. Concussion.
No way she’s that fast. Is ladybug frozen?
*Careless whispers plays in the background as LB and CN hold hands*Fun fact, I actually sang it as it was happening. I don’t kid when I say these are things I say outloud as I watch them.
This is a cool shot. I like it. The focus thing? I like it.
How does he dream it? Does Adrien also write fanfiction about how it will happen? Is Adrien hidden amongst our fanfiction writers?
Are you kitten me, Chat? You are gonna judge her?
Hahahaha, Like a gun. That’s funny.
What detective movies do they watch?
So they glued her to Ladybug…. And they earrings too? Does that mean Marinette can never take them off now? Wouldn’t it be smart to also do that to Chat?
Penny: “What… what happened? Where’s Jagged?”
Ladybug: “What happened? You fucked up my room, my life, and almost my secret identity! That’s what happened?”
Chat and Penny: O.O
Ladybug: “…. I mean…. You’re always so helpful…~”
How… she… she’s gotta stay. A…. and he gotta go….
Chat: “You’re the girl of my dreams.”
Ladybug: . . . . fuck off *pushes him off the balcony*
Smooth LB, smooth.
He’s British right?
Now that! That sounds like real Paris. I like that background sound.
NILYA!
…. This . . .. this looks a lot like that little joke I wrote a few months back…..
Also, Adrien, your sneaky chat is showing.
Adrien looked mad at Mari interrupting him. Adrien, your chat is showing.
Ok. The animation of their eyebrows was soooo exaggerated that they looked angry when they are supposed to be like …. Concentrated, or confused. Make those eyebrows smaller.
THIS IS INTENSE! ADRIEN IS GETTING SMART . . . AND SASSY!!
JUST A FRIEND MY ASSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
HAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHHA 8D I AM SO NOT PANICKING AT ALL!!! HAHAHAHAH -Marinette
Adrien your douche is showing.
Also, Adrien, shut up Chat noir. Adrien doesn’t know she hides them under her bed and sofa.

Mari’s boobs got bigger. Yes. I did notice. And if there is continuation to that I’ll accept it. She is in puberty.
Isn’t… isn’t that a parallel to another scene? It feels similar to the umbrella scene. The angles.
Tikki did us a favor of reminding us that Marinette is getting better at talking to Adrien. Thanks Tikki.
I just now realized the page I’m in is not facebook. But it looks like it.

I.... really like this episode. Ok , so here’s the deal. My brother got a microphone. If you guys want I can record these. Truth is, a lot of my commentary gets lost because of typing. I’m fast, but not THAT fast. I could try and do it like cinema sins.  And it could help bring back the timestamps. Your call. :)
 Thanks for reading.

This is my new AU. Alternative Heros AU (AH AU for short). It’s like switching the species of everyone around, and it also has a different story.
Here’s all the information about them. Sorry that it’s so long. I’ll also will make the Villainous version.
Slug: Slug is an eldritch demon. Why he looks more animal than human is because he’s a youngester. He has yet to figure out how to shapeshift and act more human. He’s only around 50 years old, which is maybe around 20 in demon years. He lives in a part of the underworld called The Abyss. It’s a mix of a dessert and volcano area but color black and purple. In the abyss, it’s kill or be killed. Sin has no limits. Being the runt of his pack, Slug was not only abused and tortured by his pack, he was used as a “stress reliever” and a toy for higher ranks. Soon the pack disowns him and he stumbles across a portal and enters it.
When he arrives at the other side he is so amazed by the much more forest and city landscape. He terrorizes people, steals their food, and ruin their property. White hears about the so called creature and decides to capture it. Slug walks into a trap and is captured by White. White oddly enough knows how to speak in Eldritch and takes Slug as a pet.
White is released as the priest in his church because he is keeping alive a demon. The two move out of town after that. White finds a job taking care of orphans and Slug even comes to play and comfort the kids.
Slug mostly acts like a curious and grumpy cat. He can understand a bit of English, but his vocabulary is of a toddler. His native language is Eldritch and he’s learning to be more human thanks to his friends. Slug will get grumpy a lot, but he doesn’t go too far as to hurt anyone. He loves to cuddle though he won’t admit it. Slug is also very stubborn and will not back down from any challenge. He will protect his friends to the very end.
Slug’s relationship with White is hidden. It’s hard to tell if he cares about White or doesn’t. Deep down he loves White, but he’s too scared to tell him. For now he just gives the occasional cuddle time as White reads the bible to him.
Slug’s relationship with Ria is adorable. He always makes sure she’s calm and collective. If Ria has a mental breakdown, he will calm her by purring and rubbing his face against hers. The two are like brother and sister.
Slug’s relationship with Six is like brothers. Six will be rough with Slug. Wrestling noogies, playing sports, ect. The two have a bro bond and Slug enjoys that he can take his energy out on Six.
White: White’s full name is White Hat. He is 26 years old. White was a perfect child. He got straight A’s, did what he was told, and was a good person. White was in a fire when he was a kid, which he claimed was caused by a demon. A plank of burning wood fell on Whites face and his right eye was burned. White decided to learn about the occult if he ever saw a demon ever again. He soon became the priest of his church and was a great role model for his church. White adopted slug into proving his town that a demon can be reformed. The town he lived in was full of more traditional people and he learned that some people will never change no matter if you shove the facts into their faces. He found work in an orphanage and he is loved by the kids and the people who come to adopt the kids.
White Hat adores everyone and believes that he can change people or at least leave an impact. He will get in depressive states if he fails to help people, blaming himself and bashing his mood. He never cares about himself, and he’s insecure about himself, even though he is a smart and kind man.
His relationship with Slug is mixed. He loves slug more in a romantic way, but makes it seem like he’s friend. He wants to be with Slug, but he also wants to keep focus on everyone else. He is too stubborn to give himself any sort of romantic relationship. He does care about Slug and spends most of his time with him and even takes care of Slug more than himself.
His relationship with Ria is great. He knows Tia because of Six. He took Ria out of her terrible state and changed her to a better person. He taught her how to be a better person and Ria wouldn’t be around if White didn’t help. White and her love to work with the kids at the orphanage they work at.
His relationship with Six is interesting. Six is White’s cousin. White has always been close with his cousin until they became teens. When Six got our of jail, White took Six in and formed a better relationship with him and even learned sign language for him. The two don’t talk a lot, but when they do have a nice chat, it’s nice.
Ria: Ria was born in a very strict household. She was diagnosed with Hysteria Personality Disorder after years of abuse and even the death of her father. Kids teased her and called her Hysteria even till High School. She became selfish and egocentric. She dressed like a mean girl and did things she wasn’t proud of. She was also obsessed with being the center of attention. She fell in love with Six in her junior year and she was abused by Six. The two did a lot of drugs and couldn’t stop. After a knife fight, Six was sent to jail, and Ria was left alone. No longer was she a headstrong and selfish person, she became scared, depressed, and soon was diagnosed with Delusional Disorder. She couldn’t tell what was real and what was fake. Events of the past replayed over and over again. Soon White took her in and helped her get back on track with her life. She was timid and sweet after she took therapy and medication. She still is obsessive of attention, but not to an extreme level. She became someone new and when Six came back to her life, the two became a stable relationship.
Her relationship with Slug is adorable. She relies on Slug to help her calm down. She loves to brush Slug’s hair, pet him, watch movies, and play video games with him. She is thankful that she has an overgrown cat to protect her.
Her relationship with White is strong. Every day she is glad that White changed her. She never hesitates to help White and she looks up to White. She and him bake and sew clothes a lot. The two are best friends.
Her relationship with Six is beautiful. The two are not proud of their past relationship but have changed to make things better. She loves Six with all her heart even after the abuse. She cares because she know Six is not a terrible person. She and Six love to take walks in the park, cuddle, and the two teach kids about substance abuse and sign language. Ria wants to marry Six, but she knows Six isn’t ready. She will wait until then.
Six:
Six is White’s cousin. He wasn’t big on religion, so he took the other route. His life was nothing but bad luck and he didn’t believe in any sort of heavenly beings because of it. He did whatever he wanted and became a delinquent. He lived his life to the edge. When he started dating Ria, he started drinking, and that lead to abuse. Ria one day was being molested by Six’s friend and the two had a knife fight. Six’s friend slit his throat. He survived but lost his inability to speak. He was sent to a jail for a year, then to a rehabilitation for violent offenders. His prisoner number was 6.0.6 and people normally called him that in jail. He learned sign language and White helped him in a better life. He also made up with Ria and the two are a stable couple.
Six is very gentle with his friends, but with strangers, he will act aggressively. He is like a bear and he relates to them. Tough but gentle.
His relationship with Slug is great. He can relate to Slug on some odd level. He wasn’t even bothered that Slug was a demon. He teaches Slug how to sign and he rough houses with him. The two are bros.
His relationship with White is inseparable. Even with the rough past, Six care about his cousin and what he’s done for him. Six does the heavy lifting for the orphanage and teaches the more aggressive kids with White. He wants to be a good role model, and he has White to thank for that.
He loves Ria. He cares about her more than anything. He hated how he hurt her and has sworn to never harm her again. Six wants to marry Ria, but doesn’t know if he’s truly want to do that right now. For now the two are fine where they are.

Life Under State of Emergency: Tokyo and Rural Areas
Shibuya Crossing (Photo: Daryl Harding)
Previously, we looked at how the state of emergency was affecting the lives of anime fans in Japan, focusing on the areas of Kyoto and Sendai. Today in part two, we speak with two people who live in Tokyo and a rural area outside of the main cities to get their perspective and feelings on how the “lockdown” is affecting them. We asked them all the same questions to get their differing points of view.
(Note: all answers have been edited down for clarity.)
  Inside The Capital of Japan
An empty and close Tokyu Plaza in Harajuku, one of the most Instagram'd places in Japan (Photo: Daryl Harding)
I spoke to cosplayer, writer, and Tokyo native, Kaho Shibuya, who in her past has been a newspaper reporter, a TV, radio and YouTube channel host, and a teacher among a vast array of other colorful professions. She lives in the heart of Tokyo.
Firstly, how are you doing in the “lockdown,” even though it’s not technically a lockdown?
Under our current law, the Japanese government can’t force us to stay at home, so there are some people not behaving the way we’re advised to. Yet things have definitely changed when the prime minister declared a state of emergency: In major cities like Tokyo and Osaka, a great number of shops have closed, so you don’t have destinations for just hanging out anymore.
The transportation system, however, hasn’t been affected so people can still commute. With how punctual and on-time our train system is, people are still heading to school/work. The extremely crowded train ride in Persona 5 isn’t exaggerated at all and is still happening.
This means unless you can work at home or you work for a company where they care about your health your job puts you at a higher risk of infection.
How has the quarantine affected you personally?
Actually, I hardly go out to socialize other than work. As a non-drinker, I would be happy only going out to attend business meetings or networking gatherings. All my friends are business-related so when we naturally come together, we work together.
My hobbies are reading manga and watching anime, evidentially, alone. My favorite genre is RPGs, which doesn’t require another player. I live very close to my parents. Quarantine thus far hasn’t affected my personal life at all.
My work gives me an excuse to talk to people and be an extrovert, so I cherish it very much. Otherwise, I’m an indoor otaku detached from society.
  What about professionally?
I have many deadlines to meet: weekly, biweekly, and monthly columns, plus my upcoming book. There is still a lot on my plate, though I usually visit a café or somewhere not my room to work. Staying at home makes it absolutely difficult to concentrate.
Usually, my favorite workplaces have been the worst locations to go to due to during the coronavirus crisis because of their confined spaces, like karaoke and manga cafés to name a few. Japanese people often use karaoke places for business talks because you don’t have to worry about others listening to your conversations and waiters won’t bother you. Manga cafés give you access to almost every popular show and magazines in print. You appreciate the sanctuary if you’re a classic physical book lover like myself.
Was there anything you were looking forward to that has now been canceled?
I’ve had the luxury of visiting quite a few conventions overseas as a guest and was looking forward to going more this year before you-know-what happened. My last con was Anime Los Angeles back in January, and I miss the geeky energy there.
I was going to voice the main role in a new anime show and was really looking forward to it, then the production was delayed due to COVID-19. In fact, a lot of TV series and movies I’ve been waiting for have been postponed such as Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World- and Case Closed.
Is there anything you’ve started to do because of the lockdown?
I’ve actually joined Twitch and started streaming in April. With everyone experiencing isolation, I thought it’s important now more than ever to stay connected and share the same moments together live.
I don’t show much of my private side on social media, almost always posting pictures from professional photo shoots plus simple puns and messages, so streaming for hours from my room is definitely something new. It’s not only a good way to tell people how I’m doing through webcam, but what kind of person I really am beneath all those smug model pictures. Some might want nothing other than sexy from me, for sure, while others might relate more because I relate a lot to the topics Twitch users talk about.
Streaming on Twitch, I can practice speaking English since there are way more English-speakers on the platform than Japanese, and I get to talk passionately about manga/anime/light novels/games in the chat room with people who are really into those things and want to genuinely know about Japan. Especially with cons getting canceled where I get to weeb out together with my international fans whom I cannot see often because of the obvious long-distance in between, interacting with them and staying passionate about our favorite things is what I crave. Like talking about the Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba stamp-rally I went to in Kyoto, or other Japanese-related anime events.
Although, if it weren’t for lockdown, I wouldn’t consider making my own account since I’m so not a tech nerd (just a nerd, period). But my friends offered to help out and I’m truly lucky that I have them. I’m in good hands and now thinking of setting up for game streaming and more!
What are you using to cope with being forced to stay inside?
Now that new episodes of seasonal anime have been suspended, I take this time to go back to older shows, like Bleach, Gintama, Anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day, Angel Beats, and Steins;Gate, all from 2004 to 2011 when I only have a vague memory of following every single episode because we didn’t have anime streaming sites to catch up. While the first two are very long to binge-watch, the middle two series have only 12 episodes, then the last one is somewhere in between plus its extra season Steins;Gate 0.
Currently, I’m watching Mob Psycho 100 in English, all thanks to Crunchyroll by the way! I want to digest amazing shows in English too so that I get to talk with more people about them.
Kaho actually put the A Certain Scientific Railgun puzzle together during the “lockdown.”
  How has your neighborhood/town changed?
Considering it’s central Tokyo, the number of people I see on the street is now surprisingly low, especially on weekends and late at night. Some shops and offices have either closed or shorten their business hours, so it’s very quiet in the evening.
What are you looking forward to once everything is over?
Once this pandemic is subdued, I’m planning to have my first gig as an Anisong DJ! I’ve been practicing and was going to debut in April, so now I have to make my performance worth the wait!
I’d been to some clubs that played mainly anime songs in Japan, but when I attended Kawaii Kon in Hawaii, I made friends with AniParty members from NY at the LUMICA booth, and their energy and audiences were great. I wanted to be a part of that, bringing smiles and music to dance to, letting everyone know about stunning OPs and EDs.
In addition to signing, paneling, cosplaying, and emceeing, I’ve been eager to contribute more to events. Some other projects are going on too which I can reveal at my next con, whenever that is. This stay-at-home time is for me to grow, and after that, it’s time to show!
How do you feel about Japan’s response to the pandemic?
It was quite a long time before our government took things seriously. I mean, they should’ve regulated if not banned traveling, they were very reluctant to make that decision.
If such action was made earlier, I believe we could’ve been in a much better situation. Given that we have a bigger personal space in social interaction; we rarely hug or even handshake, and we’re used to wearing masks because of hay fever in the spring. And more than everything, our biggest city, Tokyo, is incredibly clean and safe compared to other big cities in the world. I hope you all get to visit when this international fear is gone …
Any other stories you’d like to tell?
A lot of my friends from overseas reached out to me to make sure I was okay, which was incredibly nice. In these hard times, you realize the importance of people around you, you discover who is really precious to you and who feels the same way about you in return. Without the quarantine, we are usually too busy living our own lives every day to ever think about things like that.
  The Rounds in Rural Japan
Finally, I spoke to Ernest Lin, an American who has lived in Japan for the last three years and currently quite a way out of Tokyo — outside of the four main prefectures. He’s a senior editor at the video game website PlayStation Universe and works as a consultant in Japan in various fields.
Firstly, how are you doing in the “lockdown,” even though it’s not technically a lockdown?
Surviving so far — things for me could be worse but could be better.
How has the quarantine affected you personally?
There's an overall sense of anxiety that I feel has been cast over everyday life. There are days where my mood has been pretty gloomy. Obviously, not going out as much and being separated from friends and others has played a part in that. I follow the news of the COVID-19 situation in Japan and America a lot, so I'm especially worried about my friends and family around the world.
  What about professionally?
Ah, unfortunately, it has affected me in that regard. I missed out on some work — there are a few of my on-going projects on indefinite hold until the situation quells. Additionally, it's been hard to get some other things off the ground.
Was there anything you were looking forward to that has now been canceled?
Oh, at this point it feels like countless things — anime and gaming industry events, other festivals here in Japan, various movies, and series releases. With everything else going on bringing perspective, the cancellations and delays are only slightly disappointments. I completely understand and support them if it means keeping more people out of harm.
Is there anything you’ve started to do because of the lockdown?
I started cooking more. The situation has given me time to work on bigger personal projects. Also, I've been able to catch up with loved ones, especially back in America, via voice and video calls.
What are you using to cope with being forced to stay inside?
I use some of the time to study more Japanese and organize my living space. Games have been a nice temporary escape (Final Fantasy VII Remake has been perfect for that!) and multiplayer ones like Fortnite have served as digital hang-out spaces to replace meeting up in real life.
Ernest traveling to Midgar in Final Fantasy VII Remake
Before the "lockdown," I hadn't binged many shows in a while since my job and other life stuff usually kept me really busy. Like everyone and their mom, I watched through Netflix's Tiger King. I've tried catching up on some anime shows I missed in the past. I recently finished Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai plus its sequel film and was pleasantly surprised by how much I loved them.
  How has your neighborhood/town changed?
Places, in general, are a little less crowded and various public spaces and businesses are temporarily closed or at reduced hours. Almost everyone is wearing masks.
What are you looking forward to once everything is over?
  Karaoke for sure.
How do you feel about Japan’s response to the pandemic?
Frankly, I do not believe the measures that have been taken have not been swift or adequate enough. It's one of the reasons I'm constantly concerned about the situation spiraling into something worse ... I hope it doesn't, but I'm always afraid it will.
Any other stories you’d like to tell?
A month or so ago, I was attending a meeting to check out a property for a project. I showed up at the entrance without a mask, and before we could proceed with the meeting, one of the staff made a remark about how I didn't have a mask. Embarrassed, I realized I had forgotten to wear one (I was born and raised in America, so I sometimes forget). Fortunately, I had extras in the car, so I ran back and came back with one on.
Around that time, I had a dinner meeting where the food was self-serve, buffet-style, but we were given gloves to wear while using the tongs and such. That was a first for me.
Thank you so much to both Kaho and Ernest for sharing their stories of isolation with us. Kaho Shibuya can be found in multiple places all over the web with most of her social media found on her website (NSFW warning), or you can find her streaming on Twitch. Ernest can be found on Twitter @erniichan.
If you have your own story about life in Japan you’d like to share, feel free to share it with me at any of the links in my bio below.
If you or someone who know is living in Japan, coronavirus-based English resources are available at NHK World Japan.
