i honestly feel that we as a fandom do not talk about Hecate as a parent enough. I know it doesn’t make sense if you haven’t read the son of magic short story in the demigod diaries. But like, can we talk about this? people always say that post-toa Apollo is the best godly parent but Hecate?

In the son of magic, we learn that not only Hecate lost the most children throughout the titan war, but we learn that Alabaster is the only child of hers in Kronos’s army to survive that final battle. She rejoined the Olympians, something she didn’t want to do, in order to keep her son safe.

“At least, she refused it at first. I urged her to keep fighting. But the gods decided that they didn’t want one rebellious goddess to spoil their victory, so they made her a deal. They would exile me forever from their favor and their camp— that was my punishment for having an attitude—but they would spare my life if Hecate rejoined them.”

Not to mention it seems shes often in contact with her child, I’d assume this contact extends to all her children, not solely Alabaster. Mind you, this is when Zeus banned the communication with demigods. We don’t know if this ban extended to Hecate but clearly she didn’t care if it meant keeping her child safe while he was quite literally being hunted. 

She also states that she doesn’t want to harm either of her children when Alabaster speaks about Lamia.

“You know I cannot help you, my child,” she said. “She is my daughter. I can’t raise my hand against either of you.”

She goes as far as stopping Alabaster from using his binding spell against Lamia so they don’t kill each other, she doesn’t want either of her children to be killed despite their fight.

“Alabaster is a child who always seeks to make his mother proud, even if he can sometimes be reckless.…But Lamia also had a difficult past. She didn’t ask for her fate. I want to see her as happy as Alabaster.”

She understands both her children and wants them both to be happy, even if someone else doesn’t understand. She even turns Claymore into a mistform so he can watch over Alabaster and keep him safe.

“I could return your soul to the world in a Mistform body. It would take much of my own power, but I could give you a new life. Alabaster has always been headstrong and impatient, but if you’re by his side, you can guide him.”

not to mention the whole threatening to kill alabaster unless she joined them(Like really?)

I don't think she really got as much as a good childhood, to be honest. Like her parents are bad people >:( So her regression is just a fresh new way to restart and go back to a happier childhood. And she loves doing all this new stuff she hasn't done before! Like go out to toy stores, go to the playground, and all that fun stuff!!

She loves story/picture books too! Like Matilda, The BFG, Huckleberry Finn, Peter Rabbit, Paddington and more!
