what is OFF

please info dump on me /gen

OFF is a French classic RPG game that came out in 2008, but has gotten multiple translations over the years! The most common translation used is from 2011 iirc! The team that made it is named "Unproductive Fun Time" with two members: Mortis Ghost and Alias Conrad Coldwood! Mortis coded the game and drew all of the artwork, and Alias came up/composed all of the music!

you play as a character named ‘The Batter’ and you are purely here to assist him in purifying each zone you come across—getting rid of specters(ghosts) and helping the town’s people. In total there are four zones with one secret location, and each zone has several unique puzzles and lore that is told within them all by the townspeople/employees you encounter. (the world of OFF is fucking surreal. there’s blood/meat rivers/water, the citizens breathe smoke, and they extract minerals from cows—shit like iron. all revealed in towns/work history). you, the player, is also technically a character as well, but you are only acknowledged by Batter himself and two of the characters who can break the fourth wall.

each zone has a “guardian” that acts as a final boss when you finish clearing everything. each guardian is unique like their zone and had a unique personality and design. once you defeat a guardian, the zone is purified. if you were to come back from another zone, everything would be white and “pure”, and the music would be significantly different.

i feel i should mention this game makes you question your choices. the way the characters speak to you, the way the fourth wall breaking characters speak to you, directly, it makes you think twice about what you’re doing. but it’s not like some other games. you stick to the path you make and you have to make a decision at the complete end of game.

I have a Norman x Reader headcanon that I’d like to share! Mostly because I think it’s sweet.☺️

(Not a request, 👹 lol)

So my headcanon is that Reader has dry skin, like— very dry. So much to the point it scrapes and bleeds easily by the smallest touches or things. This goes on for almost their whole life, they stock up and apply lotions so their skin is always soft but that ONE day where they forget to apply lotion?

Scabs, scabs, scabs, BLEEDING, DEATH and it burns so much when they reapply it and wrap the skin.

So I’m thinking, if Norman and Reader knew each other in GF, would he apply it for them when it hurt too much? Kept them hydrated and out of the sun? Checked in on them and held their hands to see the dryness?

Kinda like how you touch a dog’s nose to see if their dehydrated? Yeah, that.

Would be switch dishes duty with reader on the days that their skin is especially dry? I bet.

GF Norman is all around softness and worry and adorableness. But Post-Lambda Norman? Hmm. 🤔 🧐

I think that Post-Lambda Norman would watch reader come into the office with wrapped hands and wonder, have a few questions but never ask them. He’d be aware after the first few times it happens that you apply lotion and wrap them so they don’t scab and bleed.

On the occasions that reader does have dry, scabbed hands; he post-pones any ‘missions’ or meetings until your hands are in a better shape. I think he’d also keep lotion in his desk, and tap the container with his pen (during meetings and not) to get your attention and then he’d dart his gaze to it when he notices you rubbing them together.

He might keep his office a bit cooler, so that the heat doesn’t dry out your hands and maybe he’d even keep you away from ‘missions’ or ‘jobs’ that require reader to be in a heated area. Even if it does mean he keeps his cloak on more often, at least you’re comfortable and your skin isn’t bleeding.

🥺 Is there a certain type of moment or common interaction between your characters that never fails to put you in your feels?

Hmm, well heart-to-hearts are always good, but I think - I think I really like the moments right after, where they're exhausted from being vulnerable, with perhaps things still left unsaid, but this mutual understanding of "we care we love we just cannot talk about this more right now, it will be there when we have energy again, for now we just need to exist together without the tension" and then they do, leaning against each other or cuddling. The promise of more, because it needs to be addressed, but the trust and love of "it can wait" - I love that very much <3

🤡 What’s a line, scene, or exchange you’ve written that made you laugh?

From Empty Nest Syndrome, when Moon worries about Robin and Sun teases him with:

“No, you’re just brooding so much the entire house feels like a nest. Someone missing his pet bird?”

I just loved how neatly the teasing nickname now became a theme, and I was really damn proud of the title, too! I still chuckle at Sun coaxing Moon back out of his shell like that hehe

And the dreaded compliments /hj /lh I'm counting these as one for my peace of mind please I have two more to go after this already and I'm already struggling gfhdjs

I really really try to have varied sentence lengths - I know I have a tendency towards long ass sentences (like this one) (because every thought comes with bonus thoughts) but I do try! Throw in a couple very short sentences and some medium length ones before I inevitably slip back into one sentence per paragraph hfdj

@witch333s these are all 4 of my tattoos and their meaning below (Not in order of when I got them) 1. (Top left) Seven pointed star and Roman Numerals for 13 - It was actually a Friday the 13th tattoo I got that I made using the symbol for magic in Wicca and the 13 is also the Witches number and the Roman numerals just made it look cool. Was my Second tat. 2. (Top right) Sigil of Balance/Peace contextually, of my own design - I wanted it on my body to help bong the sigil with my essence and give it strength since I can charge it at any time. My latest tat. 3. (Middle) The Mushroom, (not a goddamn jellyfish) - a personal symbol of reincarnation. Part of why I chose the shroomy is because they only really live off that which is dead an physically embody the idea of reincarnation in their own way. My Third tat. 4. (Bottom, best for last) Each of the 4 parts, the sun, the moon, the tree and the skull, respectively represent, the god (masculinity), the goddess (femininity), life and death. My First tat. I drew all of them at various times of my life, the first one I got however I did design it with the intention of getting it as my first. He mushroom I had actually done much earlier. All of them were done by John Hilsmeyer at Valhalla ink in the town I live. They're small but very good.

Drew attempts a Nuzlocke run

Having finished the main plot of Pokemon Sun (Amazing, very well put together Pokemon game), I’ve decided that the next thing to try is one of those Nuzlocke challenges. Not in Sun, I don’t want to wipe my save there as there’s still a lot of endgame content to explore. Instead, I’m firing up the GBA emulator to and trying to Nuzlocke Pokemon Emerald.

I’m using the following rule set:

-Any pokemon which faints must be released. Fainted pokemon cannot be traded, used for contests, bred, or used for any other purpose.

-Fainting due to all pokemon on my team being fainted means game over, run has failed.

-I can only catch one pokemon per uniquely named map region, and it has to be the first pokemon I encounter in any map region (aside from duplicates as described below). This rule only comes into effect after Pokeballs are available.

-All caught pokemon must be named.

-No duplicates, ever. Pokemon of a family line which I already have ever caught in the past can’t be caught again, and also do not count against the first pokemon in a region rule.

-Shiny rule: Shinies must be caught when encountered, even if this would violate the previous rules. Shinies should also be used on the team when possible.

-Items may be used freely in or out of combat (other than Revives, of course)

-Pokecenters can be used freely.

-Trades are permitted, but the traded Pokemon must be one that was legitimately caught according to the above rules.

-Pokemon from other sources (Revived fossils, NPC gifts, Game Center) are permitted, but only once per source.

My team so far:

Mudbro the Mudkips, my starter. A solid water-type, who I’ve never used before in any Pokemon game.

Wormybug the Wurmple, caught at level 3 on Route 101. Not much to say about him. Trying to use his Poison Sting attack when possible, but I’ll probably box him when I catch something better.

Lilyhead the Lotad, caught at level 4 on Route 102. Knows Astonish, Bullet Seed (thanks to a TM), and Absorb, which is somewhat useful, if redundant with the rest of my team.

Shaggy Dog the Poochyena, caught at level 3 on Route 103. Not much to say about this one either. I’ll probably box it when I catch something better.

Pikablu the Marill, caught at level 5 on Route 104. Getting better now, this guy knows Water Gun and evolves into something with decent stats.

Shroomy the Shroomish, caught at level 5 in the Petalburg Woods. Now we’re talking. Shroomish is one of my favorite Pokemon, both because of its quirky design and its incredible use. It gets some really good status-inflicting moves, and can heal itself by draining the enemy’s health. And it eventually levels up into Breloom, which I love for the sake of being a wacky boxing kangaroo mushroom dinosaur thing, and which also has some great attacks too. Rapidly becoming the MVP of my team.

No deaths so far, but I’ve been very careful. I’ve just cleared the Rustboro city gym (Rock-type gyms are super easy when half your team knows Water-type moves). My current problem is that I’m going to need to start using the Cut move to proceed, but nobody on my team can learn it. I really hate the idea of having to break the Nuzlocke rules for the sake of having a HM move user. I may have to grind Shroomy up to a high enough level to become a Breloom, which can use Cut.
