a/n: short n sweet shuriri! cave scene. i wrote this based on a sketch I was working on. rated T | mentions of death/ standard riri anxiety. i wrote this at 2am so i might edit when i wake up
Nights felt longer down below.
Riri wasn’t sure how long they had been locked away. She really didn’t want to at this point. It would make it all worse. The gnawing pain that had consumed her from the beginning was growing bigger-- squeezing her until this prison became her tomb.
It didn’t help that her life before now was already standing on the precipice.
That fancy school, fancy new life, she knew she’d fuck it up. She had only hoped that at the very least her mom would get to see her graduate. That hope was gone of course, replaced with a more tentative goal--not dying.
So far, so good-- though that wasn’t really her doing.
Shuri hadn't left her side once.
It was kinda annoying at first, being dragged about, but after the first round of murder attempts Riri has grown to appreciate the effort.
Right now, Shuri has fallen asleep after staying up most of the night trying to calm Riri down.
Half of the Princess’s body hung off the hammock-- legs dangling over the edge. The other half, well…Her face was buried in Riri’s thighs-- hands digging at her hips and sometimes waist. And well---Shuri was an… active sleeper.
Shameless--Riri’s mind offered instead. After all, Shuri was just as hands on when awake too.
Riri didn’t dare move her though.
It was slow, it was quiet, and those moments are hard to come-by now.
So she lets the Princess sleep how she does. She lets Shuri’s warm hands drag across her skin and pull her closer. And when the morning comes, Riri will brush off their apologies and pretend like her heart wasn’t racing.
It was the least she could do.

Chapter 20
The next day, a new energy was prominent in the air. Riri was currently configuring the last few things on the prototype, or the I-SPY as Riri had come to name it. Carefully, she made the last adjustments and looked proudly over her work. After a moment she stepped back and exhaled, "Now, for the moment of truth."
Pressing one of three buttons on the small device, she saw it flash a light purple signaling it was powered on. Next, she turned on a monitor that bad been linked to the small device. Moments later, she recognized her face as it appeared on the larger monitor. Continuing her testing, Riri picked up a sleek black, remote controller. Pushing one of the switches upwards, the small device began to roll forward. Getting lost in her creation, she didn't notice Shuri who had stopped at the top of the stairs and was watching her.
"Having fun?' Shuri questioned, startling the other woman.
Riri jumped up, almost dropping the remote controller. "Oh, uh, sorry I was just testing the device. Look at this!" Riri said as her nerves calmed and excitement replaced them.
Shuri watched as the device rolled along the floor, evenetually making it's way over to her. Soon it was her face that had been plastered among the monitor.
'If you two are done here, then it would be helpful if you could offer your services." A voice sounded from the top of the lab, at the doorway, belonging to none other than Nakia.
“Greetings, while you two were busy playing with your toys, I was actually doing real work.”
“Not. A. Toy.” Riri said through gritted teeth. “This,” Riri said as she waved one hand under the device, showing it off, “is the I-SPY. Hopefully this little guy can get us a drop.”
Nakia stopped and took a moment to examine the small device from afar.
“Cute.” Nakia said as she started to descend the stairs. “Anyways, I just came across some information I thought you might want to hear.”
Her banter filled face regretfully turned to a small frown.
“Well?” Shuri questioned , eyes wide as she awaited her answer. Her questioning, being only for the sake of details. Shuri had seen the look before, numerous times actually. And all she could do is brace herself for the dreaded news that would follow.
“ I was doing some intel last night and what I found was shocking to say the least. It’s not good to say the least.” Nakia said, with a tablet now in her hands. After a few minutes of touching the screen, numerous documents started to appear above the group’s head. The holographic images showed financial documents, messages, and a plethora of other documents.
“Tell me they aren-“ Riri’s voice questioned among the growing tension.
“Yes, it seems they’ve been secretly dealing arms, specifically small amounts of vibranium to other countries without our knowledge. Knowing Shuri wouldn’t stand for such a thing, well…” Nakia’s voice trailed off as she made eye contact with Shuri, who was standing silent. From previous experience Nakia knew this wasn’t a good thing.
“Where’s M’baku? Does he know?” Shuri questioned as she began to pace her lab’s floors. The thoughts looming in her head would have pushed any other person into a stage of panic. Yet, Shuri was only fueling her rage into a plan of action. At times like this, she couldn’t afford to be selfish and fall to her emotions.
“I spoke with him briefly. He had his suspicions something else was going on that they didn’t want him to know about. From what I can tell, Shuri, they expected him to be more passive than previous rulers.” Nakia spoke carefully, trying her best not to enrage the other woman even more.
Riri approached Shuri, attempting to pull her out of the daze she was in. Placing one hand on the small of the back, she used the other to stroke the side of the taller woman’s face. Instinctively, Shuri relaxed under Riri’s touch. Her eyes fell shut as she exhaled.
“Breathe, baby. Look at me.” Riri hallowed as she coaxed Shuri back to reality.
A few moments passed until Riri saw the ever timeless sight of Shuri’s deep chestnut eyes.
Slowly she saw the flames of rage diminish to embers.
“I’m okay.” Shuri said as she pulled the smaller girl in for a short hug.
“Ahem.” Nakia fake cleared her throat. She grinned at how attached the two had come in such a short time.
At the sound, the couple were jerked out of their world and back into reality. Shuri let Riri go as she finished composing herself. Riri could almost see the wheels turning in Shuri's head. Whatever Shuri was plotting, Riri would do nothing other than support her.
"Hm, GRIOT."
"Yes, Shuri?"
"Contact M'baku, as well as the Dora Milaje and have them meet me here immediately."
"Right away, Shuri." GRIOT responded.
"The situation just went from bad to worse." Shuri looked into the distance, as the weight of her world fell back onto her shoulders.
'Shuri, what should I do?" Nakia questioned.
Shuri looked to Riri then back to Nakia before continuing, "Riri, love, can you give us a moment?"
"Of course. I'm gonna go and tinker with something." Riri muttled off as she left them to talk. She settled in front of a monitor on the far side of the room and inserted her headphones, assuring their privacy.
"Shuri, this is much worse than I thought. They sure covered their asses with this one. There's almost no way to know who they sold them to."
"I know. We need a new plan. But first, I need a list of everyone possibly working with the elders. They aren't capable enough to carry this out themselves."
"On it. I'll be back shortly. I already had a few names, but ,ah, you can never be thorough enough." Nakia turned to leave, but stopped and looked over her shoulder at Shuri. "And before you start being too hard on yourself, you couldn't have prevented this. You did not know." With that she turned and started to ascend the staircase and exited the lab.
Shuri was left grappling with herself. Fighting the parts of her that felt she could have done more. Been more aware, more in tune with what was going on in her kingdom. She would be the first to admit her recent break had been needed, but like all things her time for self reflection and healing had come met its dilemma. The sound of the doors open and a familar voice greeting Nakia pulled Shuri from her thoughts. M'baku had arrived.
'Perfect timing.' Shuri thought to herself as she watched M'baku stalk down the stairs. His mountainous figure coming closer into their view.
A grin crept upon his face before he spoke, "Little panther," M'baku began as he landed at the bottome of the stairs, "I see we have much to talk about."
"Yes, we do. One moment." Shuri excused herself before going to retrieve Riri, who appeared to be entranced in whatever technology she was working on. Shuri lighty grabbed her shoudler and was met with soft brown eyes and a slight smile.
"Hey, you guys done already?" Riri questioned as she got up and entangled herself in Shuri's arms. As much as Riri needed to feel Shuri, she knew Shuri needed it more. No matter how well she carried herself, Riri knew what Shuri really was feeling. Which was anxious and scared. But she also knew that Shuri couldn’t be forced. More so, in Riri’s mind, Shuri was a force all in herself. PpRiri knew to wait and not push Shuri; she would come to her when she was ready.
"Yes, love, we are. Come on." Shuri ushered them back towards where M'baku had settled at the large table in the center of the room.
"So, I see Nakia has shared her findings with you?" M'baku questioned.
"Yes and as you can see it is much worse than we could have ever thought." Shuri replied.
"Any idea on where to start?" Riri chimed in.
"Not really. I've sent Nakia to go and find out more about what's been going on and who all is involved. Once we have more information, all guilty parties will answer accordingly."
"And getting the vibranium and other weapons back? How are we even going to locate them?"
"Once we get more information on the buyers, we can take the known locations of everything and see what we're left with.' Shuri took this time to look up and meet M'baku's eyes, then Riri's before contiuing, "This- this won't be easy or brief."
"I'd be concerned if things were peaceful again. It was getting a little boring. If I’m not saving everyone, what is my purpose?" M'baku sarcastically let out.
"I’m sure we’d manage." Shuri shot back.
"Aht, Aht little panther, " M'baku teased, letting his native tongue linger on the nickname, "Save your energy, you did say this was not going to be a simple task."
Shuri shot a glare at M'baku as she began to protest, but not before getting interrupted.
"Okay, you two, let it go. As you both said, we have a lot of work to do. So," Riri, paused and looked between the two, "Where do we start?"
"You can start with explaining what's going on?" A voice sounded from across the room.
The group turned to meet them. There stood Aneka and Ayo, along with Naseema and Asira.
"Ah, come over and we can get you caught up." Shuri answered.
The small group made their way over to the rest. After they were informed fully on the situation, everyone prepped for the first part of the plan. Which was placing the I-SPY technology.
"So, if everyone is ready, these" Riri, holding one of the small spheres up, " will be placed in every council member's room tonight." She proceeded to hand two to each of the members of the Dora Milaje that were present. "Remember, while they can be operated remotely, you must turn them on first, inputting the password key before starting. Our team of scientists, here, will be monitoring the activity. In shifts, 24/7. Any questions?" Riri looked at the group of warriors, and not to her surprise, no questions.
"Okay, that's it for now. I'll see you all tonight." Shuri said, relieving everyone, watching as the group dispersed.
Riri waited until the room was empty and the last lab assistant had left to approach Shuri. Walking up softly behind her, she placed her hand on Shuri's back and began softly rubbing it. "Hey, you sure you okay? I feel like your mind's been everywhere lately. Even if you don't want to talk, I'm here when you're ready."
Shuri turned to face Riri, as she took her in her arms and olaced her head atop the shorter woman's. "Thank you. And I know. This is just-" Shuri let out a heavy sigh, "Way more than I was expecting."
Riri heard the tears fighting to stay behind the walls of leadership Shuri had built. "Hey, it's okay."
She coaxed as she continued to rub the small of her back.
"It's just," Shuri paused as she collected herself, "I just wish they were here. They'd know what to do."
Riri knew who they were. And it killed her that this was a problem she couldn't fix. "Babe, look at me." Riri pleaded as she pulle away from Shuri, so she could look directly at her. "You're doing everything right. They would have been so proud of you. You're honoring them the best way you know how. By fighting for their memory and their legacy, by using what they taught you."
Shuri only nodded in response, a small smile growing on her face. “I’ve been thinking.” Shuri looked up before continuing. The small smile faded. “There’s still one person I need to talk to.”
Riri’s eyebrows quirked as she waited for Shuri to continue.
“Namor.”

it was a lazy sunday afternoon; the sound of rain and thunder dancing together could be heard in the distance. with her back facing shuri’s front, riri allowed herself to fully lean into shuri’s embrace.
bare faced, fro pointing towards the sky – this version of the chicago native was her favorite.
“your hair always smells so heavenly,” shuri proclaimed, as she placed a delicate peck behind riri’s ear.
“you always smell divine.”
the royal’s tone leaked of desperation; she needed riri to understand every word that fell from her lips.
“you smell good enough to eat.”
“can i? can i devour you, my love?”
the energy in the air was so intense that the shorter of the pair could barely hear herself think. biting her lip, riri began to contemplate what to do next. this game she was playing eventually had to come to an end.
a gasp departed riri’s mouth as her eyes closed.
shuri no longer felt the need to be gentle; every ounce of patience left her body the moment she noticed the visible dampness that formed in between riri’s thighs. using her right hand, the royal wrapped her hand around riri’s neck, applying slight pressure. her left hand found its path by toying with the band of her briefs.
riri wore a cropped tank accompanied by a pair of shuri's briefs.
undoubtedly, shuri could feel how much riri needed her — she felt everything.
but shuri needed riri like she needed air; the panther was famashed.
“you don’t hear me talking to you, mama?”
releasing a sigh, riri opened her mouth, only to close it again. riri was just as desperate as the royal; the undeniable desire for shuri’s touch had been marinating for a week. this week consisted of the same pattern – shuri’s spends the night in her lab, comes home in the morning, and behaves as if everything is splendid.
the love that shuri has for science is one of the things that riri adores about her. yet sometimes, she hated how consumed shuri was with her passion. she wanted shuri 24/7; not when it was convenient to her insatiable need to create.
because of this feeling, riri wanted to prove a point.
if shuri could blow her off for a week, she could deny her for just as long.
this was only day 3 of her game.
“riri.” shuri purred, as she ghosted her hand over riri’s center.
“i know you’re upset with me,” the royal established.
“and i know you’re trying to deny me…” she slapped riri’s cunt through her briefs, taking mental note of how her left leg twitched.
“but she,” another slap, harsher this time.
“simply can’t.”
as riri attempted to squirm out of shuri’s hold, shuri removed her hand from riri’s throat.
“you dare deny your panther?” she chuckled in disbelief.
riri didn’t want to break. she wanted to hold out longer but shuri was making it hard. her cat-like eyes stared at riri with so much yearning.
if not her eyes, it would be her voice that finally broke riri.
the royal's voice oozed confidence; honey filled vowels and demands trickled from her lips.
“no…” riri whispered, loud enough only for prey to hear.
shuri smirked.
she was circling riri’s clit now, painfully slow.
“it’s gonna be a long night for you, my love."

#1
[MONDAY AFTERNOON]
Her smooth silk brown skin glistens
under the sunlit illuminated windows
as the water trickles
down her broad shoulders
to her god-crafted muscles,
flexing with every step they take
ever
so
slightly
out the pool.
Their chest heaving,
a slightly tired
yet heavy gaze
as they skim around the room at their peers,
eyes landing on one particular figure
with a similar look in their eye.
Her stoic demeanor is slowly replaced
with a playful smirk as she eyes...
wait…
SHE’S LOOKING AT ME-
SHIT!
Shuri snaps out of her internal monologue, jumping from the huge glass that peered into the school’s aquatic center, and quickly bolts through the double doors that lead to the hallway. When she’s out of sight, she slumps over, catching her breath. “Wow, Ms. Nakia would have either granted me an A+ or sent me to the principal’s office with the type of words I was thinking,” Shuri chuckles to herself.
After a brief pause at her words, her face heats up as she quickly facepalms in shame.
“What the hell am I saying?”
Reluctant, she trudges down the hall in embarrassment, making her way to the place she considered her third home: the science building computer lab (her second home was chemistry lab 2b).
In there resides Peter Parker and Ned Leeds, sitting around a desktop clicking away at some first-person shooter game, with an unwavering MJ Watson sitting a couple of seats away from the boisterous boys, head in a book per the usual. All three teens lined up in typical geeky fashion. Shuri slumps her book bag over a computer table, the sudden noise breaking the immersion of the boys who then looked up from their game, spotting the presence of their purple-clad friend.
“Dude, what have you been doing all this time?” Ned scowls. “We didn’t have any clubs today and we’ve been waiting for you for the past twenty minutes to walk to that new milk tea cafe MJ’s been telling us about.”
Not lifting her head from her book, MJ snarkily remarks, “She’s probably been too busy ogling the crap out of that poor girl over at the aqua center.”
Shuri’s face heats up as she’s quick to defend herself. “Cut it out! Of course I wasn’t!”
MJ smirks, still not looking up from her book. “Sorry, lemme rephrase that better: she’s probably been too busy eye fucking the crap out of that poor girl over at the aqua center.” Blood rushes through Shuri’s cheeks as she sputters incompressible excuses from her mouth, MJ giggling at her discomposure from her book.
“You’re such a mess, Shuri! When are you gonna finally buckle down and rizz her up– or at least go up and talk to the girl instead of borderline stalking her almost every afternoon?” Peter playfully pokes the purple-clad.
Shuri sucks her teeth, swatting him away. “One: the word ‘rizz’ sounds extremely uncanny coming out of your mouth. Please refrain from using that word around me again.”
Collective snorts bounce off the embarrassed white teen whose shit-eating grin twists into a poker face.
“Two: I don’t eye Y/N almost every afternoon.” Shuri pshaws and waves everyone off.
“Oh, my bad!'' Peter dramatically gasps, slapping a hand over his chest. “It’s every morning, lunch break, assembly, dinner break, class transition, and EVERY afternoon.” Collective snickers break out as Shuri backhands Peter, not harshly, but hard enough to derive a strained “ack!” out of him.
“But seriously, Shuri, it’s about time you try and get this girl’s number.” MJ goes on, finally looking up from her book and putting it on the table spine up. “It’s no use for you to keep on hopelessly pining after this girl from afar and not putting in the effort to actually pursue her.” Shuri slumps into a chair and releases an exasperated sigh.
“I do, but what would a versatile and talented girl want with a one-trick pony nerd like me?” MJ visibly cringes at the purple-clad’s words. “Ewww man, this isn’t the 80s! We are NOT living in a Disney Channel sitcom. There’s a lot of people would go for somebody as smart and intelligent as you, you know that.”
“Yeah, maybe to do their homework for them,” Shuri retorts. MJ pauses. “Hmmm, now that claim, I won’t completely disagree with...” “MJ!” Ned dramatically gasps as he lightly slaps MJ on the shoulder.
“Don’t listen to her, Shuri. You are perfectly capable of winning Y/N over just the way you are.”
The purple-clad snickers. “Now THAT was something you could’ve sworn was straight out of a Disney Channel sitcom.”
About 15 minutes later, the eccentric group of teens close up the computer lab and continue down the hallways with milk tea on their minds… except for Shuri. She trails behind the bunch, head hung low, peeping at Y/N’s Instagram.
As her walking gets slower as she’s gaping at her phone, the coil-haired nerd brushes her shoulder against what she thinks is just a wall. She lifts her head to notice the shorter, dark, and gorgeous swimmer— the same one on her phone that she still had in open view.
“Oh! Whassup, Miss Shuri!” Y/N’s eyes light up as he greets the taller.
Shuri’s breath hitches at the lovely emphasis put on her name, blood running cold as she quickly checks her peripheral to make sure the gang wasn’t around to humiliate her more than she already was.
Meanwhile, the teens heard what was going on behind them, but chose to continue on their merry way, intentionally leaving the two alone in the middle of the hallway.
She looks back at the short athlete and returns the greeting with a bashful smile. “What brings you here, Y/N?” The nerd quickly asks in a desperate attempt to carry the conversation, forgetting that people don’t need a reason to just roam the halls, something she mentally facepalms herself for right after.
“Nothin’ much,” Y/N chuckles at Shuri’s nervous efforts. “I’m just coming out of my swim practice. Mr. Namor was runnin’ me dry today.”
The athlete pauses as if she’s recalling something, the corners of her mouth slowly curling into a knowing smirk.
“I saw you peeping me over at the center earlier,” she drawls, “figured you wanted to speak to me about somethin’?” The athlete’s tongue subtly swipes across her bottom lip, as she gazes up at Shuri with a particular look in her eye, irises occasionally shifting down to the open Instagram page still on her phone, waiting for an excuse.
It was enough for the poor nerd to melt into a puddle, knees buckle and collapse, and lay sprawled across the hallway floor right then and there, but luckily for her, she still possessed a pinch of dignity left within her. With fleeting composure, gripping her backpack strap with strain, Shuri gives a weak pshaw.
“Me? I was just passing by! I just really like watching the team…”
You…
“...practice.”
As Shuri desperately attempts to form more words that can potentially save her, her eyes flicker to a *very convenient* bulletin board behind the shorter athlete. There, plastered on the brown surface was a poster: “CALLING FOR NEW MEMBERS! Swim Team Tryouts This Thursday at 5 pm! Swim Your Way To Success!”
Oh, Bast…
“In fact, I’m thinking of trying out for the swim team myself,” the nerd straightens up and states proudly, hoping she masked the way she winced at her words.
Y/N, who was expecting a different answer, gapes at the helpless girl in slight shock. “Oh, for real? That’s crazy! I never pegged you as a swimmer, Shuri.”
The nerd’s mouth forms a goofy grin. “And why is that?” She dramatically slaps a hand on her chest. “Is it because I’m of the darker persuasion?”
This derives a hearty cackle out of the shorter athlete, Shuri’s stomach fluttering from the fact that she made the girl laugh.
“Negro, please,” Y/N catches his breath and straightens up. “It’s because… I mean…” The shorter athlete trails off, eyeing Shuri up and down, the nerd’s cheeks heating up in the act.
“You know what? Nevermind. I can’t blame you for wanting to try. Hell, I’ve been swimming since 4 years old, the feeling’s exhilarating.” Y/N sighs off into the distance, as Shuri internally gushes at the shorter athlete’s passion.
Suddenly she snaps out of her trance and backtracks on the words of the other girl.
“Can’t blame me for wanting to ‘try’? Are you still assuming I can’t swim?”
Y/N waves his hands in defense. “No! I’m just saying–”
“Well I’m GOING to try out, I’m GOING to swim like a pro, and I’m GOING to get on the team!”
After a brief pause at her sudden outburst of competitiveness, Shuri reels it back in with a small “...respectfully,” and a cheeky smile.
Amused at the nerd’s sudden wave of confidence, Y/N clasps their hands together in accord. “Sounds like a plan then! I guess I’ll be seeing you Thursday then.” The shorter athlete readjusts the duffle bag strap on her shoulder and starts to walk closer to Shuri, laying an encouraging, yet, knowing hand on the taller’s shoulder, and leans into her ear.
Shuri could have sworn she was imagining what was rasped next.
“Word of advice: work on that backstroke… I know I will.”
Y/N then pulls away with an innocent grin and brushes past the appalled nerd, continuing on their merry way, but to suddenly turn around to yell one last thing:
“And your phone’s still on!”
Frozen in place, the girl slowly peers down to her cellular (one she made the mistake of changing the display settings to go into sleep mode after 5 minutes) still on Y/N’s Instagram page.
Once the athlete was out of sight, Shuri’s knees buckled as she grips the nearest wall, releasing a sigh of relief, quickly washed over with a wave of anxiousness.
What have I got myself into?

“Y’know a backstroke is a type of swim move, right?”
Riri chuckles at Shuri as she clicks away on her calculator, doing her homework on her bed. The young prodigy lifts her face from it being buried in her pillow and whines.
“But she said it so… sultry like… and her voice was so… raspy… it felt INTENTIONAL!”
“Or maybe your horny ass misconstrued her words and heard ‘backshots’ instead of ‘backstrokes’!” Riri giggled as Shuri proceeded to throw a pillow at the girl.
“Regardless, either word could be used as an innuendo, she did it on purpose,” Shuri retorts.
“Okay, okay, whatever. Sooo, what are you gonna do?”
Shuri flops back on her bed with a sigh. “I will try out for the swim team, like I said I would. I mean, she sounded so intrigued when I mentioned I was interested, and the passion in the way she speaks about it— I should at LEAST try.”
“Aww, I guess that’s fair,” Riri begins to coo. “If you knew how to swim.”
“Huh?”
“Shuri, I have never seen you TOUCH water unless it was for drinking or an experiment, let alone be EMERGED in water outside of taking showers and baths in it. We’ve had campus water activities and pool days before and each time you’ve said ‘I’m busy, I’m busy.’”
“Well I was, you know I have school work as my top priority.”
“We have them during school breaks, Shuri, you don’t work on a school break!”
Riri releases an exasperated sigh. “Shuri, can you swim or not?” The prodigy gives her friend a hesitant look. “I mean, I’m not the worst at it…”
“Shuri, just say you’re shit at swimming.”
“Fucking hate it.” Shuri blurts out. “Haven’t stepped foot into a pool since I was 6.”
“Damn it, Shuri!”
“You wanted me to be honest!”
Riri chuckles in disbelief, shaking her head. “That’s not even it, Shuri! Swim team try-outs are on Thursday, that’s in THREE DAYS! You barely know how to swim, what makes you think you’ll be ready within the next three days?”
“I’ll figure it out, okay?” Shuri stresses, trying to calm herself down. “I mean, you seem to know how to swim. Why don’t you teach me?”
“One: you dug this silly lil’ hole yourself,” Riri wags her finger at the prodigy, “I’m not helping you with shit. The most I’ll do is braid your hair back the night before so it can fit better in the swim cap you’ll have to put on. Two: I couldn’t teach you even if I wanted to because I wouldn’t have time, I’m stacked up on homework for the next few days.”
Shuri groans in her pillow, flopping back down on her bed once again. The young prodigy felt hopeless with no more ideas left… except for one last hope.
“No.”
“C’mon, brother! This is my love life on the line!”
T’Challa chuckles, crossing his arms. “You got yourself into this mess when you knew you couldn’t swim.” He raises is hands in defense. “You have a death wish, I am not helping you.”
“But that’s what Riri said!” Shuri whines.
“Well Riri is a good friend, keep her around. As for me, I have a gym to organize so I am going to continue what I was doing.” T’Challa does just that as he starts to pick up idle weights off the floor.
“I’ll pay you!”
“I have a job, and you’re a broke college student.”
“But with an internship!”
“An unpaid internship.”
“I’ll be your very best friend!”
“I’m your brother, and I already have plenty of friends.”
“Oh, like that old brute that works alongside you?”
“I heard that, you oversized midget!” A snarky coach M’baku scowls from the connected office.
“I’m 5’5!”
“And I’m 6’5, midget!”
Shuri rolls her eyes waves him off. “You work with that oversized man baby,” she sneers to T’Challa.
The older chuckles as he continues to tune out his sister’s persuasions while he tidies around the ring.
“Brother, please!” Shuri drops to her knees dramatically, rubbing her hands together in impatience. “I’m becoming desperate, I REALLY need your help!”
The younger continues to plead as the older man begins to cringe at the pathetic display, checking his peripheral to make sure she wasn’t causing a scene for unwarranted pedestrians that may walk past the gym.
“Okay okay, I will help you! Just stand up, PLEASE! You’re embarrassing me!” T’Challa quickly reassures the girl on the ground.
Shuri’s pleas quickly halt as she jumps to her feet, showering her brother with “thank you”s.
“Ahh, don’t thank me yet,” the older waves the girl off. “And I’m only going to be RE teaching you the basics. Any extra stunts you want to pull for your little girlfriend besides that will be on your accord.”
“Deal,” Shuri clasps her hands together.
“Now will you please leave me be? I have a gym to attend to.”
“Whatever,” Shuri remarks as she starts to head for the exit, “But just know I will be at the gym pool, bright eyed and bushy tailed tomorrow morning!”
The girl slaps the doorway wall and points at her brother, who both chuckles and cringes at her enthusiasm.
Once the bubbly teen was out of sight, M’baku wheels himself to the office doorway in his rolling chair.
“You know she’s going to drown herself.”
A reluctant T’Challa sighs. “Yep.”
To be continued headass…

Together forever
Summary: They were always meant to be. even after all these years/
Tag gang: @somethingcleaverandwhitty @s0lam33y @xchoxix @mal-urameshi
A/N: Okay I hope this will give your Halloween fixes.
Summary: Riri couldn’t help but be pulled to the mysterious woman’s aurora.
Riri felt her stomach unsettled as the car rocked back and forth, why on earth did she agree to do this job? Because you need money her mind retores. Riri leaned her head back as she sighed when she got there she was going to get the most significant story that would make her career.
She was meeting THE Shuri. The famous artist. Her art has been hung around many art museums and has been sold for millions.
“This would finally get you on the map!” MJ, Riri’s roommate exclaimed with cheer. Riri was over the moon when her boss picked her to do the interview.  Riri remembers packing her clothes in a small suitcase.
The catch is she has never been interviewed. Anytime someone wanted to she would politely decline the invitation, except now that is. Riri felt the jolt of the car coming to a stop.
“Where here ma’am,” The driver’s rough voice out his pierced blue eyes looked into Riri’s.
Riri smiled stiffly at the driver, “Yes thank you.”
“Miss,” The driver started before Riri could leave the car, “Please be careful. Anyone who goes in doesn’t make it back.”
Great Riri thought as her stomach dropped for the second time today, “I’ll keep that in mind.”
And with that, the driver quickly left the young woman at the gothic mansion in the countryside.
“Get the interview and leave,” Riri repeated in her thoughts as she hiked up her bag.
Before she could knock on the door creaked open as if she knew she would arrive at the mansion. It took everything in Riri not to run over for the hills, Think about the paycheck. Think about the paycheck.
X.X.X
Riri bit the inside of her cheek as she went into the building. The mansion had a smell like leather and old paint that hadn’t been dried yet. Different art pieces were placed around the long hallway they looked like they were made years ago.
“Hello,” Riri called out as continued walking, “Ms. Udak I’m here for the interview?”
Riri pressed on, she couldn’t but feel like she was being watched. Riri slipped herself into one of the many rooms of the mansion. She hoped to find the main residents there, but she did find a painting. The painting had a black woman in on a chair looking regal. Her eyes seemed to follow Riri’s. But was weird about this painting it kinda looked like Riri. Before Riri could get a closer look at the paint the floorboard creaked causing the young woman to turn around to the source.
“Oh,” Riri gasped in surprise as she turned to see the artist. Shuri was taller than Riri thought she would. The woman wore a flowy dress shirt and black slacks, “I’m sorry. I probably shouldn’t have been here.”
“No my love,” Shuri said, “You are where you’re supposed to be.”
Riri’s throat was closed by Shuri’s comment. Riri clicked her pen as she felt Shuri’s walk around her.
Like a panther to its prey.
“You’re so kind,” Riri commented finally able to grab her senses back, “I’m sure you tell it to all women who interview you.”
Shuri smirked at her as if she knew a unique secret that Riri didn’t know, “Only you. ”
Riri could feel her heart race at the woman’s response, “Where do you want to do the interview?”
Riri couldn't believe how alluring Shuri was to her. The young woman felt like she had known this woman her whole life. They talked about things for the interview, but Shuri would make conversation about anything.
“I think I have enough for the paper,” Riri commented on her notes.
Shuri gave her a quiet smile, “If not you are more than welcome to come back, Riri.”
Riri smirked, “If I did that. I’ll probably will never leave.”
Shuri’s eyes watched her as she was packing her things, Riri felt the pressure to hurry up and get out of the woman’s way. Riri gave a quick gto realize that she wasn’t looking at her as if she was a bug underneath her shoe; instead, something that she had lost and was overjoyed to have back.
“Well I really should leave,” Riri commented as she moved to give space between the pair. Shuri’s eyes followed her.
“Not that I don’t love being h-here,” Riri commented as she continued to ramble.
“You can’t leave,” Shuri replied. Riri’s heart quickened with that statement.
“W-Why?” Riri asked pulling her bag close to her.
“The storm is coming here,” Shuri explained as she showed the Riri on her phone, “It’s too dangerous now, especially with rain and all. You should stay here,” Shuri commented.
Riri looked out the window now seeing the dark clouds that were brewing, “Are you sure? I’m sure there are some hotels I could stay in.”
“Nonsense,” Shuri relied as she pulled the curtains to close them. Shuri pulled Riri closer to her, “After all my home is your home, my love.”
   X.X.X
In guest bedroom was very spacious at least in Riri's view. The room had a bathroom attached to it. The canopy bed is in the hue of deep greens and blues. The indoor plants sat across the ceiling window.
“I hope you like it,” Shuri said as she stayed behind the door. Riri continued to look around the guestroom.
“Like it?” Riri repeated as she turned to look at Shuri, “I love it! These are my favorite colors.”
“I’m glad the room is up to your expectations,” Shuri teased causing Riri to make a cute pout. That squeezed Shuri’s heart.
“I’ll be in this room two doors down,” Shuri explained as she started to leave Riri, “Enjoy your stay Riri.”
                                    X. x. X.
Shuri couldn’t believe that she was her. Her greatest love has been recreated, it took over a thousand years but she was here. She acted the same in some ways and different in others. Shuri couldn’t help but feel glee with her soulmate.
This time her name is Riri Shuri thought as she continued her routine for “bed” waiting for Riri to fall asleep before she could do her nightly hunt.

It had been a few weeks since you first encountered Riri. You couldn’t do your daily routine without thinking about her. You thought about her while in the shower and she even haunted you in your sleep. The only two places you thought you could escape the chokehold she had you in, she easily invaded. You barely even knew the girl but she was the only thing on your mind 24/7. Your notion to get back on Riri’s good side was still a priority of yours. You just didn’t know how to put it into motion. Riri had been skipping classes for the past few weeks. When you did see Riri The most interaction you had with her was when she would give you quick glance’s that came to an end as soon as she realized you were looking back. Today you hoped Riri would actually show up to class. You doubted she would though. Regardless, you got ready for the day like you usually do. You did your hair in twists, then did your edges. Next you put on a grey graphic sweater with light brown embroidered words on it, tan cargo pants, and your Jordan 1 dark mocha’s. You grabbed your tote bag and headed out the door, you would’ve eaten breakfast but you were too eager to see if Riri was going to show up to class today.
You were now walking down the halls headed to your class. You saw Riri’s girlfriend while turning a corner. This wasn’t anything new though you saw her quite often. But this time something was different, she looked worried, and she was coming your way. For god knows what you thought, maybe she had somehow found out you were plotting on her Girlfriend. Maybe she wanted to compliment your outfit, whatever it was you were anxiously anticipating what she was about to say to you.
“Hey y/n i was just wondering have you seen Riri” she muttered out fighting tears.
You thought to yourself how does she know my name if I’ve never spoken to her. In that moment though, the only thing you genuinely cared about was Riri’s well being.
“No, I haven't seen her yet, is she ok?” you asked.
“Yes she’s fine it’s just- never mind. If you do see her, let her know I just wanna talk to her.” Riri’s Girlfriend said while choking on her words a little as she walked away.
You remained standing there for a few seconds trying to brainstorm on what could’ve possibly happened as to where, Riri's Girlfriend would be fighting tears and asking where Riri was at. As well as why out of all people did she decide to ask you. At the end of the day It wasn’t your relationship issues, and even though she did tell you to let her know if you saw Riri you didn’t plan on doing so. You wanted a few moments with Riri to yourself. She would probably see Riri later on in the day anyway so you wouldn’t be hurting anyone by withholding that information you thought. you still needed to get to class so you headed down the halls once more.
Finally you had reached your destination, Now you were about to find out if Riri had skipped class again or if she was sitting in her designated seat right behind you. To your surprise there she was sitting down with air pods in. Riri had gotten her hair done in cornrows going straight back. She had on a black and white flannel, a white crop top that compressed to her body and revealed her abs, along with some baggy blue jeans that sat right on her waistline and a pair of black and white Jordan 4’s. You immediately perked up now knowing that she came to class today. You thought to yourself maybe today would be the day you could finally put your plan into motion.
You walked through the door with a big smile on your face and slid into your seat. The class was kind of chatty because your professor had stepped out for a second. You saw that as an opportunity to speak Riri and you took it.
“Hey Riri” you said with a small smile.
Riri ignored you. You thought it was because she couldn’t hear you over whatever she was listening to so you knocked on her desk. Lightly enough not to startle her but aggressive enough to get her attention.
"Huh?” Riri said as she took one of her air pods out her ear.
“Hey Riri” you said again with the same small smile in a sweet tone.
“What do you want that’s so important, that you had to interpret my music” Riri bluntly questioned.
“Well we do sit next to each other Riri, and you fr wanna go the whole year being rude to the person you’re sitting right behind??” you sighed out.
“So you didn’t have shit important to tell me. Made me cut off my music for nothing” Riri spat out at you.
“You should at least try to hold a normal conversation with me Riri, I’m gonna be here for the rest of the year. It wouldn’t hurt you to make a friend.” You said, trying your best to convince Riri to talk to you.
“and you should try to get off my-“
Before Riri could finish her sentence your professor walked in. She was still looking at you though. Instead of a look of irritation, She was looking into your eyes With that treacherous smirk on her face. At this point you couldn’t tell if Riri loved or hated you. She was so evil to you every time you and her talked and acted as if she hated you. But that smirk, her god awful Smirk said otherwise.
Your stomach was doing backflips and you felt yourself starting to blush. If you held eye contact with Riri any longer you knew you would say something to embarrass yourself so you turned around in your seat before you could. Riri let out a low chuckle. You were probably the only person who heard it. You thought her smirk was bad. But her laugh was worse, it made you feel like you were about to melt. It was so light and airy but so attractive at the same time.
“Ok guys we’re gonna be working on a project for the next few days, and you will be pairing up with your neighbors.”
Your professor then went on to further explain the assessment to the class. You were attentively listening, hoping to distract yourself from the way Riri made you feel. You knew that you liked Riri a lot, but nobody had ever made you flustered. It’s as if she knew ever button of yours to push. Riri got on your nerves, all while making you get butterflies in the same instance.
It was the end of class now and you needed to know where you and Riri were going to study. You turned around to face Riri again.
“So Riri…do you wanna study in my dorm or yours??” you asked her.
“My dorm. I don’t know what you got going on at yours.” Riri muttered the last part a little as if what she said had some underlying meaning.
“Well you’re gonna have to give me your number Riri, so i know what time to come over.” You explained.
“I don’t have to do anything. Maybe you should just read my mind and figure out when I’ll be ready to study ma.” She said mockingly as she threw that nick name at you again.
You found it corny coming from anyone else, but when Riri’s Chicago accent laced it, it sounded so smooth. However You were a soldier and you weren’t going to let Riri watch you fold that easily. Not yet.
“Riri I’m being serious” You picked up your phone. “put your number in my phone so i can text you when I’m on the way, and you can give me instructions to your dorm.” You spoke sternly trying to get your point across, and stand your ground.
“Hand me the phone y/n” Riri said as she rolled her eyes.
You handed her the phone and she put her number in it, then handed it back to you.
“Don’t try to come over after 10 though, My girlfriend is supposed to be coming over.” Riri said in a timid and exhausted tone.
You wanted to ask if she was ok, but you didn’t want to pry at her relationship problems, and risk the friendship with her that was slowly forming.
“Ok Riri that works for me, all i know is you better open the door when i get there.” You joked with Riri because you knew how rude she could be sometimes.
“I should keep yo ass locked out just for saying that” she joked back. In that low giggle that drove you insane.
“I’ll see you later Riri.” You laughed while walking out the door. Now walking in the hall’s, all you could picture was Riri’s low giggle, and how it danced off her tongue so smoothly.
Tumblr media
You just made it back to your dorm. It was the end of the day now, all your classes were over. To your pleasant surprise, your best friend was there sitting on one of the beanbag chairs y’all had in the corner of your dorm. It’s been a while since you got a moment to talk to your bestie after she started spending the night over her boyfriend's apartment regularly. You needed a moment to catch up with her. So you dropped your tote bag on your bed and plopped down in the beanbag chair right next to her.
“Hey y/n, girl i was just about to text you and let you know i was here. I feel like we haven’t talked in forever.” Maya said while reminiscing on the conversation’s that you and her used to have.
“Maya so much has happened the past couple of weeks.” You began to explain. “You didn’t lie Riri’s lil butt is mean. I think that's one of the reasons why I like her.”
“You think you like Riri?? Need i remind you she has a gf." Maya tried warning you once again.
“I don’t think I know I like her. She’s literally all I think about, even if I wanted to stop thinking about her, I couldn't.” You tried to clarify.
“Well are you gonna shoot your shot or what? If you like her as much as you say you do, act on it girl.”your best friend tried to encourage you.
“Well it’s not that easy maya, I’m trying to build somewhat of a friendship with Riri. especially when thinking about the fact that the first time she spoke to me, she was yelling at me for scuffing her shoes.” You covered you face with your hand and blushed while saying the last part.
“You scuffed her shoes??” Maya couldn’t help but laugh.
“It wasn’t on purpose.” You blushed while laughing.
“Aww you really do like Riri huh??” Maya asked.
“I really do maya, and tonight I’m going to Riri’s dorm to work on an assessment with her.” You stated while smiling.
Your mind had now gone to the idea of being closer to Riri than what you usually were. You and her would possibly be inches apart, maybe even less than that. Riri was Making you nervous and she wasn’t even present.
Maya then got up from her bean bag chair. “Well good luck y/n I’ll talk to you later, and you better tell me how it goes with Riri.” Maya demanded in a playful manner.
Tumblr media
Maya was now gone, probably at her boyfriends apartment. You were getting ready to go study at Riri’s dorm. You freshened up and took your hair out of the twist you put them in earlier today, and let your long thick 4-c hair fall to the middle of your back in a twist out. You now had on a white tank top, black sweatpants and your black converse. You texted Riri and let her know you were on the way to her dorm. When she texted you the directions, to your shock Riri lived right down the hall from you. So why hadn’t you seen her even if she wasn’t going to class? You had to save your thoughts for later though because now you were at Riri’s door. you knocked and she opened it.
“Hey Riri” you said while smiling. You were excited to see her and overjoyed that she opened the door the first time you knocked.
She had changed out of the clothes she had on in class and changed into a black wife beater, and black sweat shorts.
There was a moment of silence. She hit you with her extreme, and intoxicating eye contact again.
“So yo ass just gon stand outside all night, or you gon come in?” Riri grinned while giving you space to walk through the door.
You walked in her dorm. You would be lying to yourself if you said you thought Riri was going to properly invite you in. she welcomed you into her dorm without something extremely snarky to say. In your eyes that was progress.
“You can sit on the bed, I already started working, if you need help on anything I can explain it to you.” Riri told you.
For the first time Riri didn’t have something snarky to say to you. She genuinely wanted to get her work done. It’s not like she was in a rush though. When you sat down on her bed you saw she was practically done with the assessment. So why did she still invite you over, you thought to yourself.
Riri walked over to her bed and sat down right across from you, you and her notes were the only thing separating y’all. As you and Riri got to work you realized that you both work very well together, when she’s not trying to be rude to you.
An hour had passed, you and Riri were finishing your assessment, along the way you and her cracked a few joke's. As you and her were laughing a knock came from the outside of Riri’s door.
“Hold on y/n let me see who it is” Riri said as she looked at the door confused.
“Alright, don’t take too long though I’m starting to get sleepy, and we need to finish up.” You said as you smiled at Riri as she walked to the door.
You couldn’t help but be nosy and try to see who was knocking on Riri’s door at this time of night. It was a man. Specifically a white man. What the hell was a white man doing outside of Riri’s dorm room, especially at night!? You thought to yourself.
“I thought I told you not to come to my door anymore. If you want something done you gotta go to the website.” Riri said in an irritated voice.
Before the white boy could say anything else she slammed the door on his face. You couldn’t help yourself at this point you had to ask Riri what that was about.
“Who was that, your friend or something??” You asked.
“Nah just a customer” she put air quotations around the word customer, so now you were even more confused.
“Customer for what??” You asked once more.
“You came here to study, not be all up in my business” She argued.
“Oh come on Riri, we been playing and laughing this whole time. Now you wanna be rude again??” You rebutted.
You saw Riri break a little in that moment, she semi let down her walls for you.
“So basically…” Riri began. “I do people’s assignments and assessments, for a price of course. I make pretty good money off of it too.” She explained. “I figured, the work is mad easy for me so while I’m here i might as well get something out of it.” She added.
“No I get that, especially when thinking about the fact that you’re a black queer woman operating in a mainly white space, it wouldn’t hurt to have some extra money on the side.” you agreed.
“Exactly, these white people lucky to have me, not the other way around.” Riri proclaimed.
“Don’t say that too loud, they might hear you and come to get you, because god forbid a black woman have confidence in her intelligence.” You joked.
Riri was starting to blush. You were validating her experiences which no one had ever done for her before. It was definitely a sight you could, and planned to get used to.
“I’m glad you invited me over Riri, it was nice studying with you.” You said as you packed up your things.
“I guess it wasn’t unbearable to study with you either y/n.” She said with a subtle smile on her face.
Riri wasn’t smirking at you, she was actually smiling at you?? you managed to make Riri smile.
“Good night Riri” you smiled back while rolling your eyes and walking out her door.
You had made real progress with Riri today, you actually made her smile. Not only was she smiling but she was smiling at you. The sight melted your heart.
Tumblr media
You were back at your dorm now, you Changed out of your sweatpants, and into some pajama shorts. As You were laying down in your bed drifting off to sleep, you got an unexpected text from Riri.
"Can I come over? I know it's late but I really need someone to talk to."
"Yeah of course Riri" you texted her back. If anyone else asked your immediate answer would've been no, but with Riri it was different.
You didn’t know what to expect when Riri got to your dorm. It was late as hell. What could Riri possibly want to talk about?
It had been 5 minutes since Riri texted you and you heard a knock at your door. When you opened it, to your shock Riri’s eyes were puffy and red. She had tears falling down her cheeks. You instinctively pulled Riri into a hug.
"Oh my God Riri what the hell happened." You asked in a concerned tone as you walked Riri over to your bed.
"Um- my…my girlfriend came over and we started arguing really bad, it got mad heated." Riri whispered as she barely got her words out.
"Riri calm down, take your time." You soothed her while rubbing her back.
"Whenever we're arguing she takes the lowest blows at me, and I don't know what I did or do to-"
You immediately cut Riri off.
"Riri, she's supposed to be your significant other, the person that's your peace. If she's going out of her way to make you feel bad about yourself then that's not your fault. Don't ever think it is." You said wholeheartedly.
All Riri could do was slightly smile at you. The real reason she chose to come to your dorm is because she knew that you would validate her feelings about the situation. With the short time shes known you she took note that you valued how she felt, and You genuinely cared about her.
"I really do appreciate that y/n." Riri said as she embraced you in a hug.
"It's the truth Riri, you should be with someone who respects you and doesn't make you feel this way." You told Riri.
"Y/n do you mind if I stay here for the night, I don't want to deal with her ass anymore for now." Riri asked.
You took Riris cheek into your hand and rubbed it gently.
"Of course you can my love" You lightly giggled as you answered.
Riri had eventually calmed down after talking for a little bit longer. When you and her laid down She nuzzled her head under your chin and sat it on your chest. You didn't position Riri to do it, she just did it. You could've sat there forever just soaking in the moment, you were on cloud 9. You couldn't understand why Riri decided to texted you and only you in her time of need but she did. She found security in you.
Tumblr media
The next morning Riri was gone. She sent you a text before she left that read,
"I genuinely appreciate what you did for me last night y/n."
As you read it You were still high off the fact that Riri was nuzzled up under you. It was the next day but your heart was still racing a little. Riri made you feel a way no one else could. Whenever you thought about her you cheesed so hard your face started to hurt. Today's challenge was figuring out what last night Meant for you and Riri’s relationship. She had a girlfriend but it was extremely obvious that their relationship wasn't healthy. You also weren't too fond of the idea of being a rebound. You cared for Riri too much for your own good and You needed her like oxygen.
It broke my heart having to hurt Riri a little, but I hope yall enjoyed 😭💙, also this is gonna be a mini series so probably like 4 or 5 parts it really depends.

I don’t know why I wanted to do a close to Bridgeton fic on our girls but here is my attempt. This is part one.
Warnings:Fluffy
“But your Majesty, I beg thee you must listen. It is time for our Lady to stop playing dress up in the observatory and court. She is now twenty and one years of age far past the age any good bachelor would want her. And she must be wed to take the throne…” Queen Ramonda turned to face her Kingsman and royal advisor Okoye giving a death glare. “Enough Okoye I understand concern but you will no longer speak of your Lady in that manner. Shuri has always been off beat but she will not be disrespected. You know better.” Okoye bows with great shame she was not intending on being disrespectful. She just gets ahead of herself. Okoye has been the royal Kingsman for years now starting when she was the tender age of ten and seven. Her service to the crown is unmatched.
“My Queen forgive me. May I speak freely?” With a tap of the foot the Queen allows her to speak while she is bowing. “I only want what is best for our Lady Shuri. She is more brilliant than any one man and I want the day of her rule to be long. Yet the rumblings that she is not fit are in the air. Please forgive my words, they were not meant to be ill of will.” Ramonda felt better but she demanded Okoye leave to fetch Lady Shuri at once.
“Ahh! Aneka do you know what this means!?” Shuri exclaims as she sits back in awe of her nearly completed diagram of a new motorized carriage system that could be used in place of using horses. It was a fascinating design. “My Lady I believe as you have stated we can move about the land without horse power needed is what it means.” With a chuckle Shuri crosses the room and hugs Aneka tightly. “Yes! It will be called a motor cart. I must get to work building! I will need this list ordered right away. I-“ Before the first item could be said Okoye enters “My Lady your Mother requests you at once.” Shuri spins around and faces Okoye who is summoning her to her Mother. “Mother, is everything ok? Is she ill again?” With a change in demeanor Okoye softens her face. “My Lady please do not worry that spell is over, thanks to you no less. She just wishes to speak with you about a social matter.” Shuri relaxes but is very confused about social matter.
Aneka quickly interjects. “Please allow a moment Okoye the Lady will be right out.” With a nod Okoye exists and waits for them with the door shut. “Aneka I cannot be told what to wear anymore! My trousers do not bother anyone. I spend my time alone I have no need to impress anyone a corset is very uncomfortable. Oh dear!” “Breathe my Lady please if anything it maybe the conversation we have been waiting on about your bid to rule. Which could be worst.” Shuri anxiously looks up at Aneka. “They have already said I must wed in order to have a bid. Aneka you understand why that is of no interest to me to wed a man. This is disastrous, Mother assured me I could still have a bid to rule without a prospect.” Aneka was well aware of Shuri’s interest because they shared the same preference. Shuri became aware long ago of her attraction to women. She has had a short fling or two on holiday but nothing more. Shuri is a lone individual who rarely enjoys someone’s company for an extended period of time. It is just her way.
“My Lady, you are confident and intelligent beyond measure. Please do not fret, we will go and meet with your Mother and hear her out.” Aneka has been Shuri’s handmaiden since she was of 5. It has been an amazing journey considering they are only 5 years separated. Aneka is like a sibling that Shuri never had. The King and Queen both adore and support Shuri no matter her interests and they never allowed her to be questioned. But after her Father’s death society has made it difficult for her to navigate. First it was the issue of her affinity for science; they wanted her to have “proper studies” for a lady. Next was her desire to wear trousers and not formal clothing for a Lady. Lastly it has been her status as heir to the throne. All of it has been fought by her Mother but tradition is a hard wall to take down. With a deep breath Shuri regains composure. “I am confident that just like Mother I can rule with no husband. I am highly intelligent, clever and charming. I can influence good changes.”
“You are ready.” Okoye popped back into the room and they went to meet with the Queen. In the time of solitude the Queen happened upon a decree from the late King. “Mother!” Shuri holds time with her Mother daily but it is still the highlight of her day. They have a fairly close relationship. “My child you are stunning today. These trousers suit you. Now please come and chat with me in the garden.” Leaving Aneka and Okoye behind they step into the garden for a stroll. “Mother I will hear you but please allow me to speak. You know as well as I that I am capable of ruling. Having some nobleman as a husband will not enhance my ability.”
Shhh with a small hushing and a smile Queen Ramonda laughs before she responds. “My child please be calm and listen to me. I have found the answer to your issues. The need to wed a nobleman is a simple old time formality. One your Father despised and wanted to reverse. He just met his death before it could be written so I plan to do so.” Romanda shows Shuri the half drafted degree from her Father. “So by this I must just seek a mate and if one is not found by age twenty and two my bid to rule will be valid no matter marital status.”
Shuri’s face was lit up with the news but the degree being half written could prove to be a problem. “Do not fret my child. I know that look of worry. I will complete the degree by way of stating that one Spring Courting is satisfactory for seeking a mate. I know you will fail to find someone so it is a win.”
Spring was around the corner and Shuri had to prepare for the fake courting season. Her Mother and Father would have loved to see Shuri find someone but it could cause some tensions in society at best if she is with another women. The hope is still there and within the palace she would have full support. The Princess on the other hand has never seen love in her future. Her taste in women is impeccable but something never seems to fully click for her. She thinks it’s because while most women are clever she yearns to have someone interested in science as she is. A rare find at best and impossible at worst.
As she is being fitted for clothing she rejects all dresses in favor of tunics and trouser sets. The tunics are long and robe-like but are simple, the trouser sets have a bit more embellishment, they all look very regal and worthy to be on a Princess. Once all wardrobe is approved Shuri is bathed in soaps and oils for her first social in the Morning. “Aneka, how am I to act? I do not know how to flirt, especially with men.” “Princess you are charming and can hold a wonderful conversation so that is where you should start. Don’t force yourself to speak to the uninteresting is all the advice I can provide.” Shuri lays at rest thinking of the advice and rest easy.
In the morning Shuri is loaded into her carriage when in another part of the city a young Lady by the name of Rihanna Williams is being loaded in on the docks. She is of a noble family from the Caribbean and this is her first courting season also despite being ten and nine. Her family is headed by a Matriarch much like Shuri’s so she has been able to forgo courting for sometime because her Mother would never force her to do something. But it is time, her eldest sister married for love another Caribbean family so she is settled and it is time to be settled says her Mother Ronel Williams the Duchess of Martinique. Rihanna has always been more clever than anyone on the island has seen. She has studied and mastered all 4 languages, she is an amazing writer and very strong in Mathematics, but building and working with her hands is her strong suit. She can tool an entire carriage herself with not much help but to reach the high parts. She is not your average.
This season is very crucial because her Mother will allow her to stay single if she cannot find someone to accept her for herself. And that means anyone, Rihanna has always been vocal with her Mother about preferring women to men but she is attracted to both. It made life an interesting time on the Island. Now on the main land is headed to the home of Lord and Lady Martian to start the formal courting season. She is invited to stay at another black family estate in the area, a one Udaku family. She will meet the young Princess Shuri today, she is told. She hopes to become friends with Shuri right away so they can suffer through this process together. “My Lady, has your illness of motion subsided?” “Yes Xavier I feel fine now I am more nervous than anything considering this is the first social of the season.” “Deep breaths my Lady you are more than beautiful and clever. Any Man or Woman in your case will find you interesting. This season will be a success.” Rihanna huffs. She is unsure if she wants it to be a success. The single life is good to her; she is free to be who she is with no ruler. Once married that changes in all ways.
Shuri arrives to the Lord and Lady Martian’s estate and inhales with relief. Her Mother informed her she will be looking for a house guest by the name of Lady Rihanna Williams of Martinique. This task will help her not need to focus on the uninteresting and find who is supposed to be in her home. She has been told some of her background and it is impressive. “Aneka, why did Mother hold this information until today? To arrange a house guest for the courting season takes time. When did she decide I was going to participate? And why this particular young Lady of Martinique?” Aneka smiles almost snickering. The Queen is being strategic; several young Lady’s requested to board at their estate due to them traveling a far distance. But Queen Mother only approved Rihanna due to her letter being forthcoming about her love of mathematics and science. The Princess at the least will have a kindred spirit around for sometime but the hope is for love to blossom with the girls. Aneka knows of this plan and believes it to be brilliant. “So many questions my Lady please just have patience for once in your years. Just focus on finding and welcoming her to your home. I am sure you all will be kindred spirits.”
Lady Rihanna and her footmen Xavier arrived just a hair before Shuri and upon entering she tripped on her longer gown. Rihanna is unaccustomed to them being on the island allows her to dress in a more casual manner with shorter and less fabric heavy dresses. But she is stunning in a powder blue with her hair in a style not normal to their land but it is resembling almost rows along her head. Shuri exits her carriage when she sees the young Lady stumble she instantly catches her and cannot believe her eyes. Shuri is sure she has never seen anyone more beautiful in life even her Mother’s radiance could not compare.
The young Lady had soft velvet like deep mocha skin that smells of lavender and vanilla, her hair frames her face so magnificently and lastly her smile seemed to light Shuri a blaze when she saw it. Dazed Shuri gains her composure once they are approached by both Aneka and Xavier. “My Lady are you ok I am sorry I was readying the carriage and the next I see you stumble. Forgive me” Xavier pleads for forgiveness for his oversight. Rihanna looks at who was holding her upright and she has close to the same reaction of Shuri but she must speak. “Xavier it’s ok I was assisted.”
Flustered Rihanna could not get past how strong yet gentle Shuri’s hold is. She can’t believe her eyes either at how handsomely gorgeous Shuri is. Her light ebony skin is glowing and she smells of sandalwood. Her hair is cut short as a man wears but it does not look the same. She is in a tunic and petticoat which is a cream color. It's so intriguing.
Aneka finally arrives and states. “Princess that was very heroic of you but let us see if the Lady is alright?” With that Shuri moves to help the woman she is now enamored with to her feet, Shuri’s hands linger on her frame a bit too long at no protest by Rihanna but soon embarrassment sets in under the eyes of Xavier and Aneka. “Yes! Apologies are in order my Lady, you seem to be steady on your feet now. Do you require anything more?” Rihanna smiles warmly at the swagger of Shuri as she speaks. “No Princess, I do not require anything at this time. I just want to thank thee.” With a look of fluster Shuri stammers. “I-it is the least I could do. It was a pleasure.”
As Shuri bows, the host of the event walks to the end of the stairs. “Oh dear Your Majesty! I apologize deeply. I came as soon as I heard that there was an accident.” Lady Martian rushes to see to the commotion. Because Shuri is the highest ranking Noble in attendance nothing can go wrong. Shuri chuckles with a cynical chuckle. “Lady Martian I am wonderful but the Lady…” Shuri pauses not knowing the name of her interest in that moment. “Williams” Rihanna’s warm tone interjects. “Yes Lady Williams has taken a nasty stumble on your stairs. I suggest a stair escort for your next function. Safety must be your utmost priority.” Rihanna giggles and moves to enter the mansion. “Yes Lady Martian it would not be the best for your reputation to have an incident reported on property.” With a wink she moves on. Shuri watches as she enters with her mind unfocused on anything around her. This young Lady is far from uninteresting; she's clever as well as beautiful. Who is she?

Shuriri Headcannon
a/n: I'm not back yet, been super busy with work. but here's a headcannon/ idea that I'm writing on right now.
Tag gang : @s0lam3y @xchoxix @mal-urameshi
Tumblr media
As quiet as it kept Shuri likes it when Riri calls her kitten. something about Riri teasing her made her heart beat a little faster.
Riri had no clue she would have to take royal classes/ training when it was announced she would be marrying Shuri. (Think princess dairies)
Riri is too consumed with trying to be a perfect royal so it doesn't reflect on Shuri.
Shuri seeing that her beloved is changing into someone she doesn't know is worried.
Riri confesses that she was worrying about her place in Wakanda. Shuri would state that she was never into tradition, to begin with.
Riri would definitely be the fun/chaos mom. Since she grew up being a latchkey kid.
Shuri being a lesh kid would definitely be concerned about the whereabouts of their child.
Shuri would mess up on AAVE from time to time. Riri thinks it's so funny.
Shuri sucks a self-care but she's better at it than Riri.
Riri can be consumed with her work for days on end. forgetting to drink and eat unless someone tells her.

Maya
Riri’s girlfriend
Tumblr media
It’s your first day at mit. You had on some baggy jeans, a gray sweatshirt and some green converse. You got lost a couple times trying to find your dorm. While lost you came across one of the finest girls you’ve ever seen. Her hair was in a slick back bun, and she had on a black hoodie, black sweatpants and red Jordan ones. You glanced at her for what felt like forever. Her eyes were so gorgeous, even in the faded out school lights her brown irises sparkled. Her skin was literally glistening and looked flawless. Your eyes trailed down her body and you noticed the prettiest red dragonfly tattoo on the side of her neck that was slightly covered up by her hoodie. She started to turn her head slightly as if she could feel you staring at her, only to be interrupted when a girl with curly brown hair covered in tats came up to her.
“hey Riri, where you been at my love” she said as they moved to embrace each other in a kiss.
You figured that was her Girlfriend. You didn’t really care much though, Truthfully you felt bad for disregarding her relationship the way you did, But you didn’t know her Girlfriend and you don’t owe her anything.
After wandering around campus a bit more you had ran into your roommate and best friend Maya.
“Hey y/n you look like a lost puppy, i was exactly the same way on my first day” she giggled.
“Girl you gon help me or not” you rolled your eyes as she helped you carry your stuff to your dorm.
Tumblr media
You were finally in your dorm and all settled in, laying on maya’s bed and catching up with her. you couldn’t wait to tell your bestie about the beautiful girl you saw while wondering the halls.
“Maya i gotta tell you something” you started. “So i saw this girl, one of the most beautiful girls I’ve ever seen, like she was fine fine, i think her name was Riri or something”. You blushed while saying.
“RIRI?” Maya jumped up immediately “Girl all ima say is her lil butt is mean, and she got a gf so tread lightly”. Your best friend warned you.
“Girl please, i don’t owe her Girlfriend anything, and whats wrong with a little rudeness?” You laughed at your best friends warnings thinking she was being over dramatic.
After a while of non stop giggles and deep conversations with maya you had lost track of time. You immediately jumped up and headed out the door not wanting to be late for class, and told maya you would talk to her later. While walking down the hall and heading to your class you unintentionally looked for riri in every hall you went in, eyes scanning everyone you came across. She was beyond gorgeous and was the only thing you could think about, so you couldn’t help the fact that you looked for her at every twist and turn you came to while walking the halls.
You had eventually given up on finding Riri, after not “accidentally” running into her like you had planned to, and made getting to class your main priority. But Some how some way as you turned down the last hall leading to your class, there Riri was walking right in-front of you. You leaned in about to tap her on the shoulder, but in the same instance Riri’s pace slowed down just enough for your shoe to smash into hers, you froze knowing that you had probably just scuffed her shoe.
“WHAT THE FUCK??” Riri shouted.
You could tell just by those 3 words that she was easily irritated. Her eyes had changed from the beautiful sparkle that you saw earlier that day to a glare of disgust.
“My bad omg i didn’t mean to” it was barely an apology. But it was the only thing you could Muster up, and it definitely wasn’t gonna change the fact that she was pissed.
“Yeah your bad nigga, the fuck am i supposed to do with that half ass apology” Riri still half way shouting as she walked off.
At first you felt bad, but now you couldn’t decide whether or not you wanted to catch up with her and knock her head off her shoulders for talking to you like that. You knew she had every right to be mad but the way she spat her words out at you made you angry, rightfully so. Now continuing to walk to class all you could think about was how much of a shitty first impression you made. And now Riri probably hated you.
you finally made it to class, you thought at least you could distract yourself with your work and not have to think about how badly you just embarrassed yourself. But just your luck you had this class with Riri, and as soon as you walked in she was shooting you the nastiest look. The only open seat was in-front of her. You hesitantly sat down, you swore you could feel her drilling lasers through the back of your head. Thank god before she could say Anything belittling to you your professor started going over the lesson plan.
“Ok guys today were gonna be working with our neighbors to-“
You immediately tuned your professor out after he said something about partners. You didn’t even want to imagine having to work with Riri after the terrible run in you just had with her.
After some time you had tuned your professor back in, but by then everyone had already been paired up with someone else. Except you and Riri, you practically had to work with her. So you turned around apprehensively, waiting to see how this would go. She spoke first
“So you gon pay for scuffing my shit or not?” Riri scoffed out.
Initially you were gonna be nice, but you weren’t gonna take blatant disrespect from anyone. Not even Riri
“Them bitches probably not even real anyways” you scoffed out right back at her.
“I don’t know who you are ma, but you definitely gotta be new here because i don’t wear fake J’s” riri snicked.
“ I am new here and my name is y/n, ma” you threw the nickname she used for you right back at her.
“Well y/n you needa watch where your clumsy ass is going, scuffing up my new J’s and shit” Riri retorted.
“Well if it means anything it wasn’t on purpose, and they still look good to me” you said trying your best not to sound condescending.
Abruptly the bell rang. Riri got up to leave basically paying you no mind, but before she left she said
“Good thing i didn’t ask you, i like your converse though” riri said with what looked like a bit of a smirk.
Maybe you were just imagining things. But her barely visible smirk gave you a glint of hope, Now you Wanted to at least befriend Riri. She acted like a dick head but you had a feeling she wasn’t and her rudeness was just an act. She kinda reminded you of yourself in a way. So you decided you were gonna get back on Riris good side one way or another.
(Don’t do too much on me this my first time writing ima get better trust 😭🙏🏽)

Jealous Shuri or Riri
I gotchu covered.
Warnings: Angst, baby!!!! Let's goooo!!!
“You’re absolutely beautiful. When you smile at me, sometimes I feel like I’m about to pass out. Your intelligence is very admirable. There is nobody else like you and I hope you know that. Your kindness enhances your aura, Riri. Your selflessness knows no bounds and I can’t help but compare myself to you. How can I be great like her? I find myself asking. Because she’s perfect in every way possible. Sorry about the rambling. What I wrote in this envelope is more concise, but I had to tell you how I feel. I really like you, Riri. More than anybody else. Will you go out with me?”
Riri awkwardly stood in front of the boy as he laid his heart bare to her. She tried to maintain eye-contact with him throughout his confession out of respect, but she couldn’t help her facial expressions. Bast, hopefully they didn’t come across as rude.
Honestly, when he called her to a secluded part of the school after the last bell rang, where it would be just the two of them, she was half-expecting him to bribe her to do his homework or something since he mentioned he was having a hard time in passing. But a love confession was completely off her radar.
The boy, Sipho, had an optimistic countenance as he had a purple envelope in hand, sealed with a yellow heart-shaped sticker. Along with the envelope, he had a bouquet of Lily of the Nile, and a small gift basket that contained, from what Riri could see, chocolate and some cookies.
Bast. Riri felt like absolute shit about what she was about to do. Sipho was a nice boy. He wasn’t ugly or anything. He was well-mannered and funny. He just….wasn’t her type.
“Sipho, look. I appreciate the thought you put into this. Because just looking at all of this,” She gestured to everything he was holding, “You put a lot of heart into it. You really did your thing.”
Riri screwed her eyes shut, feeling like complete and utter crap.
“But I like girls. So it won’t ever work out. I’m sorry.”
Sipho visibly deflated, “Only girls? Not both girls and guys?”
Riri silently shook her head, “Sorry, Sipho. You’re a really nice dude. You’d make a really good boyfriend for a really lucky girl. The girl just ain’t me.”
Sipho silently nodded, “I understand.” He walked up to Riri and handed her the gifts.
“Wait, no, no. I just rejected you. I can’t accept this stuff.”
Sipho shook his head, “No, I insist. They were intended for you anyway. So take it. I’m not angry or anything, don’t worry.” He gave a sullen smile.
Riri silently nodded her head, “Thanks. I’m sure the cookies are nice.”
“Yea. My Umama’s secret recipe. But I gotta go now. Take care, Riri.” Sipho said before he walked off.
Riri looked at the gift basket full of snacks; she could share these with Shuri!
Riri kneeled down to place the stuff in her bag. The envelope caught her attention. Curious, she ripped it open, but before she could read its contents, her beads pinged. Riri dropped the card in her bag and zipped it up.
“Hey, Shuri!” She smiled and stood back up.
“Hi, Riri! Are you still coming over?”
“For sure! I just got caught up with something.”
“Okay, great! The meeting got canceled so you can come straight here.”
“Alright, no biggie. I’ll be at the Citadel in a bit.”
When Riri arrived, Shuri was already at the entrance waiting for her.
“Yo!” Riri greeted.
“Finally! We talked like…almost half an hour ago. What took you so long?” Shuri fell into step with Riri as she walked down the hall.
“I was enjoying the views. Talking to people here and there. Hugging trees. Just enjoying existence, you know?”
Shuri nodded, “Are you adopting the ways of the hippy now?”
“Uh, no. Never.” She laughed.
They both found themselves in Shuri’s room. Riri had immediately gone to the mini-fridge to get herself and Shuri something to drink. Riri flopped herself on a vacant beanbag while sipping on a juice pouch and Shuri hung over her bed, doing the same.
“I have this assignment that’s due for Miss Anagonye. I mean, I already started it and it’s almost done, but ugh, that lady is so picky. I had to change it up like 4 different times because she kept adding shit to the outline. I swear, why doesn’t the school make her retire?”
Shuri sucked on her pouch, “Maybe it is because she is such a legend, having made a lot of contributions to the modern…moderner? Advancements of Wakanda. Plus you know how elders are, always picky with everything.”
“That lady is a dinosaur regardless. She’s probably as old as your ancestor, Bashenga. She’s practically stardust.” Riri snickered.
“You’re so bad, Riri. Academia is her calling.”
“Nah, a grave is calling her.” Riri dodged a pillow that was hurled her way by Shuri.
“Anywaaaaay, what did you do today?”
Shuri sucked on her juice, “I was excited for most of the day because I had my presentations ready for the improvements to the design group. And T’Challa was giving me affirmations and encouragement that I am most definitely ready to take on full responsibility for research and technological advancements of Wakanda.”
Shuri blew a raspberry, “But it was pushed back because the elders wanted to have a council meeting again with my Father, Mother, and T’Challa to make sure that a child is ready to fill such big shoes.”
“Man, this is why old people are still teaching at the school, bruh. Those oldheads just dunno when to let go. I think it’s cuz they ain’t got no purpose in life after they retire. Like yo…you ain’t gotta worry bout making ends meet regardless. What’s the big deal? Us young people are super capable. But again, just cuz they old and have some wisdom they think they know everything.”
“You just have it out for the elders today, eh?” Shuri laughed.
“I’m telling you. I’m gonna do a dance for joy when Miss Anagonye retires.” She sipped from her juice.
“But don’t worry, Shuri. You’re gonna be head of the Design Group and anything else. T’Challa will sweet talk those salty codgers with that honeyed tongue of his. You’re smarter than anybody else they have lined up for the job. They’ll see straight. They have no choice.”
Shuri kicked her feet in the air with a grin, “Thanks Riri. I needed that. Anything else interesting happened at school today?”
Riri shook her head before she occupied herself with turning on Shuri’s gaming system and rifled through the available titles, “Oh right,” She mumbled absentmindedly as she scrolled, “I brought some snacks. It’s in my bag.”
Shuri rolled off the bed, walked over to Riri’s backpack and opened it. She spotted the gift basket full of snacks and took it out, but noticed a card fall open along with it.
Not being able to help herself when she picked it up, her eyes scanned the words.
Riri,
Your eyes remind me so much of the Earth,
Beautifully rich and full of life paired with a laugh that bubbles with mirth.
You move with such grace and elegance
Paired with a mind that harbors unmatched intelligence.
Your smile lights up a room with its brilliance
Coupled with a mindset that embodies resilience
Your heart is kind and pure and gentle
In your presence I can’t help but be sentimental.
You make my heart skip more than one beat
These feelings I harbor- I cannot retreat.
Whether returned in full or never at all
Just know that I love you
No matter the chances how small.
Love, Sipho.
Shuri’s grip on the card tightened as she read through the love confession. She looked at the gift basket that had a tag on it. She flipped it and say that it said ‘To: Riri. Love Sipho.’ This Sipho boy even dotted the ‘i’s’ with hearts.
She looked at the basket and then at the card and then over at Riri who was preoccupied with the game. Did Riri accept his confession? She clearly had to since she had his card and snacks. So this Sipho boy was now her boyfriend? Her eyes caught the bouquet of the Lily of the Nile as well.
Shuri ground her teeth and angrily zipped back up Riri’s bag and shoved it back in the corner.
“Yo, easy on the merchandise.” Riri called after Shuri, though her eyes never left the screen.
Shuri walked over to Riri and borderline threw the basket of snacks into her lap before flopping on the bed. Shuri knew she was behaving outrageous. Riri could have a boyfriend if she so pleased. But she thought she liked girls? Why the sudden switch now? Bast, this was annoying.
A boy?!
Riri paused the game and looked over at Shuri, “Yo, what’s your problem? You didn’t have to throw it at me like that.”
Shuri closed her eyes to roll them, “It’s nothing. Play your stupid game.”
Ugh! Shuri hated how she couldn’t rid herself of the irritation in her voice. Was she too slow to say something? But if she said something, it might ruin the friendship. Dammit!
“Nah, it’s definitely something with you being all pissy like that. Talk. You know I don’t play that shit. If you have something to say, say it.” Riri cracked her knuckle to stave off her irritation. Because what the fuck? One minute Shuri was cool and now she did a complete 180.
Shuri rolled over on the bed with her back to Riri, “I said it’s nothing.”
“I will get the fuck up out your place right now if you don’t tell me what’s up, Shuri. Cuz I’m feeling like shit right now. You always do this crap. I always have to pry you open like a damn clam for you to talk about certain shit. I’m getting tired of it.”
Shuri sat up on the bed and looked over at Riri, “I didn’t think we’d be keeping secrets from each other.”
“Secret? What the hell are you talking about?” Riri shook her head, was Shuri going off the deep end now?
“I ask you about your day and you fail to tell me you have a boyfriend now? You wanted me to find the snacks he gave you and everything as a present? That love confession of a poem? Flowers!” Shuri had to keep her tone in check because Bast, she would never forgive herself if her voice broke.
“I thought you liked girls, anyway?” She mumbled as she cast her eyes downward.
Riri rubbed her head, “Oh my God. I won’t lie. I was tryna forget that happened, okay?”
Shuri didn’t bother with replying.
Riri walked over and joined Shuri on the bed while busting open the clear wrapping of the basket, “I ain’t got no boyfriend. Sipho had a crush on me. And he confessed earlier today. But I did in fact turn him down and let him know it’ll never happen cuz I’m for the girls.”
Shuri looked at the basket and then at Riri, “Then why did you keep his card where he professed his love to you?”
“You read that?” Riri side-eyed her.
“Yea. It fell out of the bag. Why did you keep it anyway if you rejected him? You don’t have to lie-”
“Lie?” Riri stood up, “What do you mean lie? I ain’t lyin’ bout shit. I just told you I rejected him!”
“Then why are you hoarding his love letters?” Shuri angrily pointed at the bag on the floor.
“Why are you going through my shit? I didn’t even read what he said in that letter.”
“You knew it was a confession! Obviously it had his feelings in it, genius!”
“Back the hell up, why are you so mad right now? And putting my sexuality into question? You wrong for that.” Riri paced and took a deep breath. She just wanted to chill from school. Not deal with this bullshit.
“Why didn’t you just throw it away with his other presents if you like girls so much? If you don’t like him, why keep it? It seems you’re confused.” Shuri hated how irrational she was being. But the thought of Riri even entertaining someone else…
“Con- I’m not a heartless bitch, Shuri! The guy wanted me to have the snacks and letter so I just took it out of kindness. I said I woulda shared the snacks with you! Like I’m trying to do right now, but you’re being a fricken jerk!” Riri kicked the rug in front of Shuri’s bed in irritation before kicking it back to its rightful place.
Shuri rubbed the bridge of her nose and bit the inside of her lip. She glared at the gift basket of snacks with displeasure. She didn’t want to eat any of those snacks made from ‘Sipho’s love for Riri. She didn’t even want that on her bed.
“Man, screw this. Talk to me when you get over yourself. I’m going home.” Riri picked up the gift basket and her bag and left the room.
“Bast.” Shuri rubbed a hand over her face and through her braids, “I messed up.”
Shuri found herself in her mother’s chambers, relating what happened.
“And she had the audacity to want to share his cookies with me. I don’t want to eat treats from someone who wants Riri for himself.” Shuri huffed and groaned as she rambled.
Ramonda looked on as her daughter worked herself up, “Shuri, come.” She pat the seat next to her.
Shuri came over and heavily sat down next to her mother.
“Have you stopped to think that you are confusing Riri?” She asked gently.
“Confusing her? How?”
Ramonda took a breath “Well, Shuri, Riri does not know that you like her. So your outburst came to her as a surprise. And she is rightfully confused. And angry.”
Shuri clasped her hands together. That was correct.
“And you questioning her sexuality was also very, very wrong, my child.”
Shuri winced, she knew it was a low blow to do that. “I was just so angry at the thought of her having a boyfriend. I’d definitely be a better match for her.”
Ramonda smiled, "Then why don’t you tell her your feelings?”
Shuri swiftly shook her head, “No, Mother. It would ruin the friendship if the feelings aren’t reciprocated. You know this.”
Ramonda nodded, “Yes, I know this. But would it be any more ruined than it might be now? You said some very hurtful things to your supposedly good friend. To the girl you….love?”
Shuri bounced her legs anxiously.
“And should a boy not confess his feelings next time, but a girl who she so happens to like back. What then? Will you lash out at her for being with the first girl that asked her out?”
Shuri hung her head in her turmoil.
Riri sobbed into Okoye’s neck, “And..and she- she said I must be confused. I tried so hard not to cry right there, Mama.”
Okoye rubbed Riri’s back and supplied her with kisses to help placate her daughter.
Clearly this was Shuri lashing out because of her untold feeling for Riri, but Okoye didn’t voice it. Riri should figure it out eventually. She just continued rubbing soothing circles on Riri’s back.
“Shuri will come to her senses, Riri. Don’t worry.”
“She pissed me off so bad, Mama. I literally felt physically sick when I left. She didn’t even stop me or anything.”
Okoye hugged Riri tighter, “I know it hurts, my love. But you both always make up, right? That’s the great thing about your relationship with her. You can never stay cross for long.”
Riri sniffled and rubbed her forehead, feeling a headache coming on, “I’m gonna go sleep, Mama.”
Okoye gave Riri another kiss, “All right, my Pebble. Rest well.”
Riri walked to her room and slipped under her sheets, falling asleep almost immediately.
Later that evening, Riri saw that she had a few missed calls on her beads from Shuri. She didn’t even return the calls, deciding to deal with that later.
Riri walked outside and smelled dinner. She walked into the kitchen to see if her mother needed any help but paused when she saw Shuri there, plating out the food with her mother.
“What are you doing here?” Riri eyed her wearily.
Shuri set down a plate, “I came to talk to you.”
“Ma, you let her in?”
Okoye gave Riri a look, “Since when have I ever turned her way, child? Come sit and eat.”
Riri sat at the table, opposite Shuri. She decided to stay out of the conversation unless her mother prompted her. And she made sure to avoid eye contact every time Shuri tried to catch her gaze.
Once dinner was over, Shuri offered Okoye to help wash up.
Riri used this time to escape to her room.
Around twenty minutes later, a knock came to her door.
“Come in.” By the power of Bast, maybe it was just her mother and Shuri went home already.
The door slowly opened to reveal Shuri.
“Hey, Riri.”
Riri gazed at the ceiling, “Yo.”
Shuri closed the door and walked further into the room with her hands behind her back, “I came to apologize about my behavior this afternoon.”
Riri just glanced over at Shuri.
“I’m sorry. I’m sorry for making you feel so bad. I am sorry for acting so irrational. I’m sorry for those hurtful things I said.”
Shuri wanted to sit down, but she didn’t want to push the envelope too much.
“Why did you say them in the first place, Shuri? Do you just like making me feel like crap from time to time?” Riri kept her eyes upward to prevent any more tears from falling.
“No, don’t say that. I don’t like making you feel that way.”
“Then why do I feel that way, Shuri?”
Shuri took a hand from behind her back and rubbed it down her face. Should she say it? But what if it ruins them beyond repair? Should she take the risk?
“You’re spacing out on me.”
Shuri looked over at Riri, “Making you hurt is never my intention. I care about you too much for that. I..I..The reason I behaved in such a manner earlier...”
Riri sat up on her elbows, “Yea?”
Shuri took a staggering breath, “I behaved like that because…”
Riri held her breath as her heart hammered in her chest.
“I care about you so much. We’ve been friends for so long and we were two peas in a pod. We are two peas in a pod. I was just…scared. I acted irrationally thinking that you getting a boyfriend…any relationship in general would cause us to drift apart. And you’d forget about me. So I lashed out.”
Shit.
Riri looked at Shuri. Really looked at her before she cracked a smile.
Fuck.
“You know that’d never happen. Nobody could ever replace you.”
She copped out.
Shuri smiled back before pulling out a gift bag from behind her back, “I brought these snacks as a peace offering. I even put some Oreos in there too.”
Riri sat up straighter on the bed and clapped excitedly, “Yes!” She grabbed up the bag and rummaged through it with feral vigor.
Ha. It feels good knowing Sipho could never make her excited like this at least.
“Thanks, Shuri.”
Shuri just smiled.
‘’Get over here!’’ Riri gestured for Shuri to come sit on the bed, which she did.
She enveloped Shuri in a hug, to which she excitedly hugged back.
“I forgive you. Thanks for apologizing.”
“You shouldn’t thank me. It was the proper thing to do.” She rested her chin on Riri’s shoulder.
Riri hugged Shuri tighter as she stared at an imaginary spot on the wall.
Shame on her for assuming Shuri was going to confess. She definitely didn’t like her like that.
