Are there any changes (that the hoa writers made from the original) that you like and dislike?
Excellent question!
Okay I think I’ve said this before but I both love and hate the fact that the plot was condensed in HOA. Due to the fact that the English studios bought way less episodes than the original version had, they were forced to tighten the plot. This meant a lot of characters outside the residents were combined, as well as the two plots in HHA (the mystery and Joyce’s disappearance) becoming connected.
I think a lot of these combos were excellent, like Rufus and Zeno becoming one character. And I think making Joy’s disappearance tie into the mystery of the Cup/Grail made everything make way more sense than it did in HHA.
I also think they cut out a lot of subplots that wouldn’t have gone over as well to an American/British audience. A lot of Dutch/Belgian fans complain about the fact that they had to make a whole new show instead of just dubbing or subbing HHA and airing that. However, I think there’s a reason for that— beyond even different censoring laws in different countries. In season one especially, Het Huis Anubis has a lot of extreme plot lines the one that comes to mind the most is the rules Victor puts in place after Trudie is fired. The characters even make a comment about how “this isn’t America!” or something along those lines (I forget the exact translation).
A lot of these types of moments are sensitive to an English speaking audience, so in that respect I think it was wise to remove them or tone them down. There was also a lot of fluff that didn’t serve the overall arc of the story.
All that said, I think cutting it down also did it a big disservice! Because there was so much filler and fluff, there was also a lot of bonding and character development that English speaking audiences didn’t get to see in HOA. In that respect, a lot of the characters in HOA— while lovable— didn’t get nearly as much attention or development as their Dutch counterparts. Friendships weren’t as deep and neither were relationships.
I also disliked how HOA pitted Joy and Nina against each other. In HHA, Nienke dislikes her for a blip of time but then realizes that Joyce is actually a really awesome person and then they’re friends. They villainized Joy for no reason and it makes me sad.
ONE LAST THING: I am VERY happy HOA cut out that one instance of blackface that HHA had because actually what the fuck was that shit? Literally that whole subplot was awfullllllll and so racist. Like, why did that have to happen? It was so out of pocket and played off for laughs

I did something silly….. I made QL guess who!
About a year and a half ago I had the idea for a custom ql guess who game but I had no one to play it with so I just put it to the side until I (hopefully) would. Fortunately that day came this weekend when @pondphuwin and I got to play a few rounds (they beat me 4:5 actually lmao)!
Some of the questions we asked were stuff like “is it from gmmtv,” “does your show have a branded pair,” “is there a love triangle,” “is there a debate over whether your show is a bl or not,” and more personal ones like “am I crazy over one of the main actors,” “do we have beef with the way this bl went,” “did we watch this live together,” and so on. Rlly fun stuff!
Since this is a custom guess who I had to make all the pieces manually. At first it seems fine and easy bc there’s already official posters right? But the difficulty is that almost every poster is a different size. So I figured out how to get the proper guess who face piece measurements and manually resized each poster to fit, with a slight gradient in the background where the remaining space isn’t covered by the poster. You can see those gradient bars on the top and bottom in the closeup of the last twilight piece, for example. Also it’s just really funny to hold mini posters of qls lmao (using my hand as a reference)
There’s 190 ql poster pieces in total (based on approx. how many I’d seen as of the time of printing) (yes I will add more as time goes on) and they were all put on one big google doc that covered about 10 pages and looked like this!
After I had them all set I printed them out on cardstock so they were thicker & more sturdy and then I did a lot of cutting. And since both players need the same posters I had to cut it all twice
Are there easier ways to do this? Maybe. I’m not sure. Honestly I just did whatever like this is my own gay little art project lol
Once I had them all cut and held them in my hand I felt quite proud of my work and now that I’ve actually played it I really do
Here’s just like a pic I took when we were playing a round. Since there were so many, after every round we took out the two qls we just selected and replaced them with new ones and we never ran out lmao. It took quite a bit of effort but it was totally worth it hehe

kinda frustrating how so much aspec content (esp stuff published in like mainstream outlets) is literally just made for allos. like it’s always some article that’s just going over aspec 101 terminology and explaining various concepts and words aimed at a clearly allo audience.
i’m not saying those aren’t important because part of the issue aspecs face is how invisibilised we are and yes! it’s super important to raise awareness and let people know we exist! but it’s also kind of frustrating how it feels like 99% of not only our time but also all wider coverage about us is spent explaining our identities and giving ted talks to allos instead of like . discussing aspec issues and identity with any sort of depth or nuance.
Angela Chen (who wrote a book on asexuality) talked about thinking about aro/ace-ness not just as an identity but also a viewpoint or a ‘lens’ to examine issues through which i thought was interesting! like how does aro/ace identity intersect with our ideas of feminism, or of race? how does aromanticism inform our critique of the nuclear family and the institution of marriage?? how does asexuality play into our view of sexual politics? how does lovelessness deconstruct our ideas of ‘humanity’? there is so much to get into and so much ground that has never been covered but we are stuck!! on giving definitions!!
idk i don’t really have a solution here! because i know that on the one hand we need these kinds of articles that give streams of ‘aspec 101’ definitions because any visibility helps, but also i am so tired of having to dumb everything down instead of having actual discussions about aspec identities and what they can tell us. like hopefully we’ll get to a point eventually where we don’t have to do this but i’m still just. kinda tired :/

this is just a very questionable shin jidai english tl
sorry~
Throw a punch for a one-hit Kill
Let’s bid farewell to the old era
We’ve defeated it for good
We’ll make a declaration here and now
It’s time to raise the curtains on a new era
Let’s raise a ruckus
How long are you gonna remain here? You’re such a burden
Isn’t it about time for you to leave?
Even though you glare at me for my bad manners
I’m sick and tired of your outdated rules
I don’t need your boring instructions
Who cares about expectations? I’ll just fight head-on
Don’t make light of my abilities
Even a fallen mic onstage still counts as a drop
We’ll sing till our throats completely burn dry
We’ll dance till our bodies collapse
The current era has gone stale and we’re longing for more
So let’s fight it out the moment our eyes meet
Throw a punch for a one-hit Kill
Let’s bid farewell to the old era
We’ve defeated it for good
We’ll make a declaration here and now
It’s time to raise the curtains on a new era
Let’s raise a ruckus
Competing and clashing with each other for all eternity
Keeping our distance from each other
Affirming that we’re necessary to each other
Entrusting our lives to each other, we live on
You’ve been cast out of the leading role
You’ll never be able to erase your loss from your memory
Feeling sympathy for you, as you ran away tearfully,
I should’ve apologised with a “sorry” before you got hurt
I turned down your challenge for a fight,
I’d only be seen as a villain if I clashed with you in your victimised state
Don’t show me this side of you
I’ll be sure to forget it all by tomorrow. bye bye
There is nothing that cannot be broken
There is nothing that we cannot achieve
There will definitely be a future for us
So let’s fight it out the moment our eyes meet
Fire a bullet for the Kill
A single hit to your vitals spells the end
We’ve defeated you for good
Let’s show the new generation
A gamble of life and death
Checkmate
Hurry up and realise that you’re no match for us, that you’re way too weak for us
You don’t even have the right to speak to us
We’re the only special ones around
Too bad for you, just give up already
Can you hear us?
Are you wavering?
Are you feeling joy all the way down into your cells?
We’ll transmit it to you through your skin
Empty your thoughts and just feel it
It’s the birth of a legend
We’re passing the torch to you
You can’t move forward if you keep grieving forever
Just abandon your fate
Having accumulated things like feelings of pity,
We will
Throw a punch for a one-hit Kill
Let’s bid farewell to the old era
We’ve defeated it for good
We’ll make a declaration here and now
It’s time to raise the curtains on a new era
Let’s raise a ruckus
Competing and clashing with each other for all eternity
Keeping our distance from each other
Affirming that we’re necessary to each other
Entrusting our lives to each other, we live on
Let’s sing
Let’s dance
With this song
We’ll defeat it all
